A QUESTION FOR JOHN & BARACK
Since they’re going to be in the neighborhood…

John McCain and Barack Obama will engage in their final staged, emotion-free debate Wednesday on the campus of Hofstra University. This is a proud moment for the school and Long Island.
From what I saw today around the Coliseum property, don’t go anywhere near Hempstead Turnpike. There are road closings and all sorts of hysterical security measures. This debate is being covered with all the hoopla of a Yankee game.
I figure since the Presidential candidates just happen to be in the neighborhood, it would be a good time to try to get a question to them. A call to the County has not been returned, so why not go around the County Executive’s office and take it straight to the top?
So here goes, Senator McCain and Senator Obama:
Could either of you guys give us any kind of friggin’ update on the Lighthouse Project?
You each have as much time as you’d like.
And so does anyone who wants to talk about it in Comments.

Seems as if the Isles’ are more concerned with non-disclosure for most issues (injuries, arena/Lighthouse) but are very excited about the next new 3rd jersey. So Chris, why haven’t we heard anything about the Lighthouse?
The Lighthouse Project is currently out 4-6 weeks with an upper-body injury.
very good line, Supervisor Murray…CB
Perhaps the Lighthouse can take up a roster spot as our backup goaltender.
I heard the lighthouse project was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs along with our 1st rounder for Ryan Hollweg
Mrs. Murray, you sure it was upper body? That we can deal with. Just as long as it isn’t lower body (as in kicked in the yams) That would be bad Mrs. Supervisor. Thanks for your time.
:p
The lighthouse proved itself to be a great idea last year, but however, came unprepared this year to training camp , and is at Bridgeport.
Chris is correct: Don’t go anywhere near Hofstra. My daughter, a student volunteer for the debate, says they’re closing a lot of Hempstead about 10 a.m. Stay home and read Chris’ blog.
lol. lighthouse got traded along with a first and another prospect for ryan smyth. we hope he will stay after this year but may not want even though he is a fan fav b4 his flight here. i am hearing form sources that garth snow is being made executive of the year. isles will def benefit from this
Chuckles Wang’s Lighthouse playground will never happen. He can’t even run a hockey team for cripes sake and we think the gov’t will give him the thumbs up to build Fort Wang!?
Although I’m on the road or work from home most days the office I reoprt to is at 50 Charles Lindburgh Blvd. They sent out all kinds of road closures tomorrow. It’s gonna be a big mess there. Like Chris said stay away from the area.
Both candidates will let you know that, “my opponent has voted against the Lighthouse Project on seven different occasions. Meanwhile, I worked with both sides of the room sponsoring legislation that would…” Blah blah blah. Political humor sucks, especially mine. I hope the Isles dress 20 players capable of playing on Thursday… not 19.
I wonder if they will have a third jersey countdown clock in the corner during the coverage?
I also work on Charles Lindbergh Blvd or CLB as we refer to it. I expect the commute to be horrible. As to a response, I will choose Barack Obama. Here it goes:
‘Thank you Mr. Moderator, what Senator McCain needs to realize is what the average American wants. By average American, I’m talking about you Islanders fans in Nassau and Suffolk County. You want your local government(s) to responds to and respects your needs as taxpayers. As President of the United States of America, I will apply my conser bully pulpit power on the Town of Hempstead to approve the measures needed to clear the final hurdles to commencement of the Lighthouse Project. Oh yeah and Let’s Go Islanders!!!”
Good thing the isles aren’t running it, or else Obama would be sitting in a baseball cap (healthy but sitting it out) , McCain would be out with an upper body injury, and it would only be broadcast in Madarian Chineese to the Coliseum Parking Lot on 94.9 and palin would be debuting he alternate skirtsuit.
I will be on campus covering some of the demonstations and picketing…a lot of our stuff should be posted on NassauNews throughout the day. I get to test out my flipcam.
I meant protesting, not picketing.
You are going to waste your time picketing? It is people like you that piss me off, honestly. You are the kind of person that complains about not earning enough money at work, yet you take off from work to picket about not earning enough money. Just go to work, do your damn job, and don’t annoy everyone by walking on the side of some road with some stupid sign that means nothing to anyone here.
“meet me at the lighthouse”
- i told you, I CAN’T. it hasn’t been approved yet.
Ladies and gentlemen, see comment 18 for the “Most Fascist comment of the night” winner. Comment 18 receives the award for being blatantly anti-free speech, dismissive, and stereotypical in just two sentences. Well done, sir.
A quick search reveals that Mr. Malmut is a student and is therefore spiritually obligated to protest. Please rest assured, Joe, that he’s not some old stinking hippie.
In case you were curious, complaining about a person’s political activities from the safety of an anonymous Internet identity is more of a waste of time than the political activities referenced in the first place.
Rather than a question posed to either of these two that would likely fall on deaf ears, perhaps enlisting the support of a certain hockey mom to go knock on the door of Kate Murray would be a tad more effective.
Just a thought.
Not intended to elicit any political diatribes from either side of the aisle.
you guys, that’s a good one, that’s funny! I’d be surprised if either one of them even know about the Lighthouse project..lol! They can’t even give good answers about getting this country out of the finanical crisis we’re in, never mind the lighthouse.
Joe: Adam wrote that he was going to be covering the protesting, not protesting himself.
Thanks for all the Comments, many of them hilarious…CB
CB—You started a war with your politcal blog entry. Point taken. You do bring up the most important part of our season. This project will determine whether you will be blogging for a team located in Spokane, Omaha or Minnesota come next fall. Then it won’t really seem to matter whether Blake Comeau is playing on the 4th line or not.
an obama presidency would be good for us ,he could take from the rich like detroit and pittsburg and give to the poor
The New Islanders Slogan: “Come join us in 2008-09 Season, its Overspeed at its best- First 100 Fans LEAVING win a day at the SPA With Metrosexual superstar Rick “queer as folk” DiPietro
A long island reporter ask Obama about the lighthouse project and Obama answered “You mean the WhiteHouse;whats the Lighthouse project does it have Pie”
McCain was ask the same question, he said ” The Lighthouse project! sure we will end up Bombing it”.
Hey i am kidding!
I heard they had a whole other project planned to take the place of the Lighthouse, but they refuse to pull the Lighthouse project as a way to gain momentum or to motivate the team…
It’s great to see we can all laugh through the pain…
I heard Lighthouse is starting in goal tonight!
I heard the Lighthouse reported to camp “fat and out of shape” and was only offered a two way deal? The entire project is opting to go up in Russia, bypassing free agency and seeing success as far away from Charles Wang as it can get.
Just yesterday Garth Snow was heard on the radio blasting the Lighthouse Project as lazy, opting to sign a Joe’s Crab Shack to a one way deal before offering the “fat and lazy” Lighthouse Project a two way deal despite the superior ameneties the Lighthouse offers over Joe’s Crab Shack.
DiPietro hasn’t publicly commented but sources say he wears his bib out in public and is healthy enough to attend crab cracking mondays despite not picking up a fork to help once.
