BREAKING NEWS: DiPIETRO INJURED
10:15 pm – Goalie declines to talk about it

by admin on October 25th, 2008 at 9:57 pm

10:15 pm – Rick DiPietro just told a throng of reporters camped out at his locker room stall that he did not want to talk about his injury, saying “it has become a distraction.”

Despite his best efforts, refusing to talk about it will not limit any perceived distraction. DiPietro did confirm, when asked by Greg Logan of Newsday, that he was pulled from the game because of an injury.

The Islanders have an optional practice on Sunday and morning skate on Monday in preparation for their home game against the Rangers. Stay tuned to Point Blank tomorrow for any news updates on DiPietro’s condition.

9:55 pm - Scott Gordon said in his post-game press conference that Rick DiPietro was pulled after the first period because he wasn’t healthy enough to continue. Gordon, citing team policy, said he would not and could not reveal the injury.

“I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but our team has a policy and I am told not to discuss injuries,” said Gordon. “Until someone tells me otherwise, that’s the way it’s going to be.”

Hey CB…thinks its time to shut DP down for a few months if its another knee injury? No need to keep putting him out there…we cant even win with 60 shots

  2. avatar EdTurner says:

No Brian. Let’s see what the injury is and then make a decision.

Now my decision is no Islander games for me until they lose this policy.

  3. avatar Jon says:

    The ship be sinking.

  4. avatar 20grand-BKNY says:

Well, the draft next year looks GREAT right about now, as long as our wonderful management don’t F it up.

  5. avatar Kevin Fitz says:

DP needs to be shutdown until the all star break at the earliest. There is no reason for him to be playing right now. This team stinks and is going nowhere this year. So why would they keep playing him when is obviously not ready yet? He is definitely not himself.

  6. avatar Joe says:

There was no reason for him to play, this just put us over into Tavares territory though. DP is great but injury prone and hes practically signed to a lifetime contract, bleak future for us. Unless hes not injured but he knows this team is going nowhere so he might as well hang out in the press box until he has a reason to go on the ice.

  7. avatar rickistrash says:

too bad they don’t have Dubie!!!!!!! go count your money Rick, you fraud!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. avatar Mike says:

Doesn’t matter if he plays or doesn’t play this team flat out SUCKS! They will be lucky to win 20 this year. Nice job Snow Ya Dope!

  9. avatar Chris TMC says:

Anyone who calls a guy a “fraud” just because he is hurt is a flippin moron. Sorry. That being said, I really hope this team STOPS PUTTG HIM IN GAMES, including putting him on the frickin bench, until he is 100% healthy. I dont care how long it takes, it is what HAS to happen.

  10. avatar rickistrash says:

amazing how much attention a goalie gets who has never done a thing in his NHL career. No playoff series wins. 2-7 career playoff record. unreal.

  11. avatar rickistrash says:

rick is not a “fraud” because he is hurt. he is a fraud because he is a cocky punk who has accomplished NOTHING in his career.

  12. avatar Justin says:

I am calling out Botta on this one. This is your chance to really come clean about the lighthouse project. Bettman said that he hopes they can break ground this summer.

Botta, what is the truth. Is it Nassau County? Is it Wang? Is it money? Write about it. Bring it to light and let us know what we can do.

  13. avatar JOE RVC says:

mike ..actually the team was very good tonight

  14. avatar Chris TMC says:

Jesus Justin, there is no secret and there is nothing to “come clean” about. As the town of Hempstead yourself! Why bring this up here out of nowhere???

  15. avatar randy boyd says:

Listen carefully. From the east, do you hear it too? Dubie is laughing his frozen ass off. Snow should be fired for that one move alone, leaving an AHL team with an AHL coach a mediocre AHL goalie to back up the franchise who has now undergone two hip surgeries, one knee surgery and suffered several serious concussions all within the last 20 months. We had a legitimate GM for 20 days in the last 15 years. Talk about reaping what you sow.

  16. avatar JOE RVC says:

joey is better then the midget

  17. avatar 13MoreYears says:

When healthy, DiPietro is a VERY good goaltender when healthy, so let’s remember that. Let’s also remember it’s not his fault he gets hurt.

  18. avatar rickistrash says:

Dubie is gone because Rick did not like him. That is the bottom line. Snow and Co. kiss the golden boy’s fanny so Dubie had to go. This is the bottom line. I know this for a FACT. Don’t believe me, ask CB why Dubie is gone. Ricky did not like him. Probably because every fan had more confidence with Dubie.

  19. avatar rickistrash says:

hey Joe RVC, Joey is better than Dubie???? You must be Rick’s boyfriend.

  20. avatar ItsGoodToBe"Rich" says:

They should put Ricky on the side for a couple of weeks, give him more time to recover. This season is going nowhere fast so it’s not like we need him to play in any big games.

As far as the game goes, we looked better tonight, but we’re not gonna be any better than this any time soon. It’s gonna be a very long season, and to think we only have 75 more games.

The Islanders should do the right thing for once and give Ricky more time and bring up Yann Denis, he’s more than capable of being a starting goalie.

  21. avatar 7th Woman says:

As we don’t know if the “injury” in question is something that hasn’t ‘healed’ or something he did during the first 20 minutes of play, we can’t even say “get a better doctor” or “be more careful.” But truth be told, if your best friend had surgery on both his hips and a knee… would you let him go snowboarding? Let alone play goal?

    Just a thought.

  22. avatar Patrick says:

Woooohooooo! Only 13 more years left to pay this injury prone bust!

    Way to go Wang!

  23. avatar randy boyd says:

Hey, JoeRVC, the numbers don’t lie. Dubie put up NHL numbers in the two season’s he had to clean up after DP. Try to imagine “joey’s” numbers after 20-30 games. actually, it looks like you won’t have to imagine, just keep watching him lose.

  24. avatar Justin says:

    Chris TMC,

If you watched the Bettman interview than you would know why I brought it up. If Botta claims that he is “independent” then let’s see it. Tell us what is BS and what is real.

  25. avatar TuxTax says:

HAHAHAHA where do you people come up with this stuff. Stop acting like Red Sox fans please…

  26. avatar Pat says:

From what my seatmates told me – they think DP got hurt in the warmup. Took a puck in an unflattering spot……and he took himself out of the warmups early. We were in the stands watching him warm up.

  27. avatar Jeff W. says:

I have to say I was initially irritated about the “no injury” policy, but now I’m downright angry. Why were we able to get a full report about Carolina’s injuries? Is there anyone out there who DOESN’T know Witt injured his KNEE the other night? Or Martinek injured his shoulder? What are they so afraid of? We fans care about the players and have a right to know how long they’ll be out. Now we have to guess about DP? This is all a big F U to those of us who are getting more and more tired by lousy play and lousier treatment by the front office.

  28. avatar gary says:

Joey Mac came in and did a respectable job. Both goals were essentially breakaways with the D-men no where in sight. If DP had not let in two weak goals the Isles could have pulled this one out. DP needs to go to Bridgeport to learn how to stop the puck and stop thinking he can skate shoot and pass it. He is horrible and needs to learn to play his angles and stop the puck first. Just think 13 more years of a medicore goalie that they claim is the face of the franchise. It will be a long time before he is able to carry a team to a cup. Watch goalies like Brodeur, Lundquist and even Marc Andre-fluery and they stop the puck and when they have to play the puck they do, usually behind the net or to the boards. DP is so over rated by the Isles one sided media and in love with this kid that has done zippo since he was drafted number 1 overall. He is no better then an averge goalie. He was taken solely because of his personality. Well his personality can’t stop the puck. He needs a good goalie coach that can teach him angles to square to the shooter and when to drop down.

The bottom line is the Isles drafts have been weak and they don’t draft the top player available. Hope they don’t screw up this draft.

  29. avatar Chris TMC says:

Bottom line nothing, Gary. The first three sentences of your response here came out fine, but after that you just lost it.

  30. avatar TuxTax says:

Hey…Psycho…Take off my Van Halen tee-shirt before you jinx the band and they break-up!!!

  31. avatar Bill TheTinChick says:

Bottom line is that gary is DEAD ON, it’s just that the Rick apologist refuse to see it. Good money says that Ricks injury is a ruse to cover for the fact that he was terrible tonight. You can blame a goalie for being terrible because he makes bone headed decisions with the puck which cost his team games. You can’t really blame a goalie for being terrible because he’s injured. He’s not injured. He’s just not very good.

  32. avatar rickistrash says:

    DUBIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  33. avatar TuxTax says:

obviously you must work for the team bill the chick

  34. avatar admin says:

Justin: when I have something of value to report on the Lighthouse Project, I will post it. Don’t call me out. That’s not gonna work. If you question the site’s independence, you obviously haven’t been reading. Why I would sit on any important Coliseum development news is beyond me, but the I’m calling out Botta stuff is insulting…CB

  35. avatar TuxTax says:

    Here Here CB!

  36. avatar Bill TheTinChick says:

    Tux….

If I worked for the Team, I’d be shouting from the rooftops that Rick is a FANTASTIC goalie! Not because he’s proven himself to be, of course, (because he hasn’t), but because he’s got a THUPER PERTHONALITY, he looks GREAT in losses, and he’s just DREEEEEAMY!

  37. avatar islesfan44 says:

CB……….what was the perspective of the people who worked for the Isles about Rick? Was he as cocky as he appears to the fan?

  38. avatar rickistrash says:

Justin…………you are dead on! A lot of independent blogs have LINKS on the team’s HOMEPAGE!!!!!!!!! LOL………..more of Snow and Wang pulling their strings

  39. avatar admin says:

islesfan44: at season ticketholder events, Rick stayed until the last autograph was signed, sometimes more than 30 minutes after the team bus had already left. He never turned down a charity appearance and volunteered as much as anyone. On a personal level, we had the occasional heat-of-battle stuff, but he was always kind to me.

Rickistrash (any reason why we can’t be grownups and use our real names?): seriously, have you been reading? You act like you’re on to something about the link on the homepage, wow. We were completely honest about what this blog was when it launched. You’ve really gotta be kidding me…CB

  40. avatar Chris TMC says:

Justin- I am aware of everything Bettman said. He said the Isles need their arena, that Charles Wang is great for what he is doing, that things are progressing, and that he thinks this is all taking too long. Yeah, and? There is no “BS” in that and nobody is hiding anything.

If you want to know whats going on with the Town of Hempstead itself, try talking to them, going to the meetings, etc. I have. This crap takes forever on LI and none of us like it, but thats how it is. Being frustrated is reasonable, but letting that frustration bring you to ridiculous notions of gigantic coverups, secret hidden information and gigantic conspiracies is a pointless leap.

Bashing Chris on his own site, spamming his site, nasty mean-spirited screennames bashing fellow readers, hysterical dramaqueens inventing secret coverup theories, fickle, bitter people so filled with hatred that they pounce on anything they can say that heartlessly bashes anyone on or affiliated with the team, people so negative that they are literally eager to believe the worst about anything and anyone, jeez. I honestly think the most embarrassing thing about the Islanders is their fan base. I wish that was not true, but sadly it is.

  41. avatar Shoe says:

    Chris

We all know how desperate the isles are for media attention.

Why not have the reporters get together and boycott the postgame to send a message to mgmt? It isn’t like you guys have no power.

It was amazing to hear HOwie and Billy blast the isles for this policy too….

  42. avatar admin says:

Shoe: thanks for the thoughts. Right now, it’s just me and Logie who are there daily. I thought the other day also about a joint day-without-coverage. I can do it (would be happy for the first day off!). Don’t know if Newsday would play along. Let’s see…CB

  43. avatar Ian says:

CB: Keep up the good work. Some of us truly appreciate the amount of coverage you’ve brought to us. Living in NC I don’t find a lot of Islanders fans down here, so this site is great.

  44. avatar admin says:

    thank you, Ian…CB

  45. avatar Shoe says:

    Thanks, Chris.

What really amazes me is the hubris of the Isles. This is a franchise that is desperate for fan approval and media attention. They adopt a policy that completely alienates the media and makes fans red with anger. It would be hard to imagine they are not aware of this when it is pretty much the most significant thing they have done this season.
They gain no competitive or other advantage from the policy.

At this point, it seems like a case of the GM who wants to prove himself taking on an almost Glen Sather-like arrogance and refusing to budge, just to prove a point.

If Garth had Sather’s resume’ or the NYR fanbase, I guess he could afford a move like this. Snow??? NO WAY!

I guess fans and media asking the isles to reconsider is fruitless. It seems the only way to get to Garth is by embarrassing him. What could be more embarrassing than the coach walking out to the interview room and have it completely empty? Or to have it on the backpage of newsday that due to draconian and anti-fan policies, newsday decided not to send a reporter to the last game??
