CAMPOLI LIKELY TO RETURN TO LINEUP
Campoli definitely looks a bit like Shia LaBeouf

by Chris Botta on October 22nd, 2008 at 4:13 pm

4:15 pm - Chris Campoli could return to the Islanders lineup as soon as Thursday at the Coliseum against Dallas and will definitely be back by the time his team hosts the Rangers on Monday night.

Campoli appears to have survived three straights days of practice and is close enough to game shape. After practice, coach Scott Gordon revealed Campoli will likely return by Monday at the latest and, referring to a player’s timing after missing so much action said, “It’s just head and hands now.”

Campoli politely fought off the painful and unnecessary dance injured Islanders players are forced to go through with the media these days. He reported that he felt great and would be ready to go when needed, but couldn’t confirm his return date.

There may have been a tip-off that his return is near. While the Islanders practiced the power play today, Campoli took a regular turn at the point while Jack Hillen did not. This is like an NFL quarterback getting more snaps in practice. Campoli could be back sooner than later.

When he is, expect Thomas Pock to stick while the still-developing Hillen eventually gets more quality snaps in Bridgeport. Which, for a very solid prospect like Hillen, would absolutely be the right thing to do.

great to hear about campoli. if the sob can stay healthy he can have a productive career…but in my opinion this is the year we cut ties with those who cannot….that includes sutton, meyer, gervais and i love him to death but martinek as well…. u cant build a d with guys on ir…..its time that durability is weighed as much as potential, otherwise we will be stuck in the mud for the next 3 – 5 yrs.

  13. avatar Mark says:

This is great news for our team defense, its pretty obvious that Hillen can’t handle NHL size and skill yet.

  14. avatar Chris TMC says:

    LOL!!!!!

  15. avatar Trots says:

You try playing pro ice hockey and not get injured. You think a guys built like Sutton are fragile??? Snot like their trying to get injured just involved in collisions, etc.

  16. avatar timm says:

thank goodness, i thought that was going to be a longer injury. welcome back campy. we need you more than we ever thought.

  17. avatar Pat says:

Hey Chris – what happened with “The Wrecker?” He got shipped to Utah today – but they signed him to a 3 yr contract. I guess he has a “3-Way” contract?

    Pat

  18. avatar admin says:

Pat: yes. Rechlicz is an enforcer project who was deemed not ready to take a regular AHL shift, plus they already have the Fritz. Don’t know if it was a three-way deal when he signed it, but it is now. He’ll play for Kevin Colley in Utah…CB

  19. avatar Jax says:

Is this team afraid to have a heavyweight in the lineup? it’s going to take Okposo getting destroyed before they wake up. This team is becoming harder and harder to watch. Nothing worse then watching a soft boring team with no offense skill. Why should I get a ticket package again?

  20. avatar James says:

Definitely, definitely, definitely. You hit the nail on the head. Could not agree more. Chris Campoli and Shia Labeouf look exactly alike. The resemblance is uncanny.

  21. avatar John says:

You beat me to it, Chris. I was thinking about that one all week.

  22. avatar dmarie says:

oh good gald he’ll be back soon! and whoa! talk about having a twin..unreal!

  23. avatar 13MoreYears says:

    We thoroughly DON’T need Fritz.

By the way, can he even skate??

  24. avatar Chris TMC says:

LOL- Shia LaBeouf looks a LOT like Campy facewise… but Shia is a small guy and he makes Campy look like a total beefcake in comparison!

  25. avatar JOE RVC says:

KETS GO ISLANDERS LETS GO CAMPOLI…TONIGHTS THE NIGHT, TONIGHTS THE NI I I IGHT!!

  26. avatar JOE RVC says:

lets turn this ship around right now oct 23 ..islanders 4 dallas 2

  27. avatar Vlad from Brooklyn says:

This Team desperately need the D-man who shoot pucks on net and strong on the point in PP. Capy is the perfect one. Plus he definetly fits the new system with his offensive abilities. Welcome back Campy!
