Goalie will not rule out back-to-back openers
10:50 pm: Satisfied with how his surgically-repaired body held up over 60 minutes tonight, Rick DiPietro pronounced himself ready for primetime.
Double-time, actually.
“You know me,” DiPietro told Point Blank after the 6-0 loss in Florida. “I’m not ruling out playing both games this weekend. We’ll talk it over with the doctors, Garrett (Timms) and the coaching staff and do what’s best long-term. But right now of course I want to play, and I feel I can play both.”
The Islanders open the season on Friday at New Jersey and have their home opener Saturday against St. Louis.
DiPietro said he felt no post-game pain after going the full 60. “I’d like to have one or two back and some of those bounces were crazy, but I got my work in and felt great.”
If DiPietro sits out one of the two openers, Joey MacDonald will get the start.

Makes sense. Danis was better and he’ll be in Bridgeport. We rewarded Snow and Dunham over better young goalies to ensure DP will be far better than his backup. I tell ya it’s like Wang hiring a midget to walk with him to make him feel taller…..same logic.
Doobie was better than Joey Mac, and Danis is better than joey Mac. Detropit fans couldn’t wait to get rid of Joey Mac. Rick likes Joey Mac, I guess. I hope he’s improved greatly since his DRW days for our sake (although given Snow’s rosters, will it matter? We’re still horrible and still getting worse every year).
God, if you’re listening……may Charles Wang sell and the first ethical owners since pre-Milstein hire a GOOD (read: QUALIFIED and REPUTABLE) GM to turn this team around in a two or three years like Pitt, not a decade like this sub par drafting team plans to?
Back to the only positive coverage lauding Charles Wang, Garth Snow and the 326 items on one page going into detail about every aspect of Rick DiPietro’s life, mood, style, family, favorite color, new mask, 21 sets of pads, etc.
I mean the team was once bigger than Bossy and Trottier and Potvin……and now one average to above average goalie with an attitude problem is now bigger than the team.
I still think the team is bigger than 39, and some other similarly neglected fans do as well CB. Thanks. Try writing about everyone else more, as they also wear blue and orange and hustle and they try.
