Third Jersey unveiled; It is what we thought it was
5:40 pm - Just came back from the launch of the Islanders latest Third Jersey. As first reported all over the blogosphere since last spring, it is indeed the mid-’70s get-up the team wore on Throwback Night two seasons ago.
There is one change that could be major to die-hards and uni-junkies: the lettering and numbering are done in white, not orange. Have a feeling that might have been to satisfy requests from NHL Broadcasting. Just a theory.
Unlike the vintage Yankee-like anonymous jerseys worn in the mid-70s, names are on the back of the Islanders’ new Thirds. The National Hockey League would never have gone for old school.
Kinda too bad. Hockey teams like to wax poetic about the logo on the front meaning more than the name on the back. This would have been talking the talk. But for those of you looking to get your Okposo old-new-old Third Jersey, they are available all over the Coliseum concourse and at the Team Store in the Mid-Island Plaza Broadway Mall in Hicksville.
It’s actually not just a new jersey, but a completely new uniform. To pull off the color scheme properly, the Islanders have gloves, pants and socks to go with the classic-style sweater. It is, if you will forgive the term, a whole new uniform system!
The Thirds were launched at a reception of the Islanders Business Club. Present to give their endorsements were legends Bob Nystrom and Clark Gillies, the very model of grizzled vet Mike Sillinger and teenager Josh Bailey, among others.
We hope to have a new photo in a while, but didn’t want to wait to post for the jerseyaniacs. For all of your jersey-bloggin’ needs, never hesitate to check Icethetics by another guy named Chris or Uni Watch by the amazing Paul Lukas.

No way if Snow is gonna be ridicoulous and talk down to us and be more concerned with new merchandice then a team we wanna see then we are gonna be ridicoulous too and make lite of an unhappy situation. I do agree that we don’t need swearing or people wishing for Milbury again. I’d think he’d be shot if he stepped foot on LI.
C.B. I know it’s off topic, but why does Snow continue to lie to us? For two years now he has talked about getting tougher and in the process we have gotten softer. Why should we believe anything out of his mouth?

they look awesome. can’t wait to buy one. isles finally do something that the fans have been screaming for. these really should be our full time jerseys. i really hope that they add the lighthouse logo shoulderpatch at some point too. i like the subtle addition of a fourth stripe to the stick in our logo. a nice way to honor the cups - much better than the awful four stripe patch.

Here is my proposal to you. I am 100% serious about this. I live in Florida. I am challenging you to a fight. MMA rules. Botta can host and it can be a point blank event. We can sponsor the entire thing out to cover my airfair, hotel, and the insurance that will be required.
It will be a charity fund raiser.
You vs. Me.
I’ll give you three months to train. If you can go sooner then great.
I will allow you to select two local charities for the proceeds to go towards.
I only ask that the third charity it is given to is a local human society.
Modells can be a sponsor and I am sure Mr. Botta can refer us to some others.
This way everyone who visits this site can come and see the results of our fight.
We can probably even tie it in to an MMA event and be the opening card but if not we can easily find a facility to host the event.
That is my challenge to you. Either stop directed your stupid comments to me or man up and accept my challenge. It is legal and it would benefit a lot of charities. It would also be a great promotional event because everyone in the world would love to see someone who is “Internet tough” on a message board have to back up their talk.

You also should try to understand hockey as a sport a bit more before you make baseless and ridiculous comments. 1. Blaming Snow for caring more about new jerseys is pretty ignorant considering the fact that he really has nothing to do with the promotions or marketing department. 2. You are “making lite of an unhappy situation” by annoying the rest of us. Does that make sense to you considering we are all in this “unhappy situation” together? Why not write Snow a letter? In it you can include all of your senseless rants. 3. Did you seriously get so mad that you threatened someone from behind the soft glow of your computer monitor? Maybe next time you should think a little before you type.

Since I have been on this board I have not thrown any jabs at anyone else on this site. I have gone after team management. So when Doc (might be you) went after me and Jax I called him out. Real easy to be a jerk and a tough guy over the internet.
Now, my knowledge of sports. Grew up family friends with NFL Hall of Famer. Coached in HS by several NFL Players. Worked for one of the best college sports programs here at UF. Represented NFL Super Bowl winner and several Olympic Medalist in Track and Field. Maintain friendships with pro athletes in NBA and NFL and several college coaches in numerous sports. My degree is in Sports Management. I worked for the Governor’s Counsel on Physical Fitness and Sports.
I did write Snow a letter before the season started discussing everything everyone is so upset about.
I didn’t get mad at all. I simply made an offer to someone who was attacking me personally over the internet to simply refrain from personal attacks or help raise some money for charity.
Since you chose to take a condesending tone to me also, I extend the same offer to you if you can get down off your high and mighty pedestal.
I think I have an old jersey in my closest. CB…tell Garth to wear a boe tie and draft the next Potvin, Trottier, Gilies, Tonelli, Nystrom, etc…

We are the Oakland Raiders of the NHL. No competant coach or GM is coming, and no big name free agent is coming here to play for 7,000 fans nightly. Wang is Al Davis, he attracts a nice mix of has beens looking for the last pay day,unqualified front office and coaching types desperate to get in the NHL, and ex-champion players who gladly cash checks just for being ex-players.
At least Al Davis ONCE was a smart football man, Wang is a wannabe hockey expert.

Strummer and Doc jello wrestle and we have Rick, Snow, Wang, Dey and Gordon all do the pregame concert with their best hits from the YMCA tour. I wanna see Wang and Rick do the letters so badly as the team the assembled cast above has left us dreaming of something entertaining and inspiring and the five weakest links in the organization (Gordon makes the list for not being a stand up guy) will have to do the inspiring.
No jello royale death match? Then I advise putting as much passion into this team as they deserve: little to none.
This organization died in the summer of ‘02. Wang is worse than Milstein….at least brother Ed Milstein nixed a horrid trade and tried albeit briefly to make us better.
Keep the Islanders players first and foremost before the Islanders organization and the PR BS they give us “stooopidd” fans, Chris….we diehards from when times were better still read and appreciate.

We Are NY ISLANDER FANS HEART N SOUL,and during the few hours before and after the game, as well as the time we spend reading and blogging here……
We throw our outside Hockey arena beliefs & Convictions out the window and we all get along just fine.. that to me is cool…
over the years when i would sitin that building during playoff games, i would look around at the raucous crowd of Long Islanders & those who came back to their old stromping grounds to root passionately for the Isles, well i often took a split second to relish the instant comradery and togerthness of a people that probably would be on different sides of the aisle in terms of many things.. yet on those nights it was all good.. It was about our team our passion our community & our hobby.. nothing else mattered during those brief moments…
I liked that it was cool, i hope we feel it again some day thats my real point here!

otherwise it should be the primary uniform. looks great.
So, to recap, “Strummer’s Army” and “jax” hate Snow. Meanwhile, “ron” wants CB to personally notify him when Comrie gets traded, and “islesnyisles23″ hates Rick and really misses Dubie. Who knew? Not like these same comments aren’t made by these same people on every freaking post CB puts up here, regardless of the actual topic.
Forty-five comments in this thread, roughly 15 of them actually on the “new” jersey. Way to stay on topic, people.
For what it’s worth, the jerseys are ok, although if they’re only going to be worn at home, then they should have gone with white. They’ve obviously got other problems, but it would be nice if the NHL would fix this one and go back to white home jerseys. How it is that fans seeing only blue v white, no matter the opponent, for every single game is somehow helping to market jerseys is beyond me.
