INJURY UPDATES, PLUS A HUNCH
Surgery for Sutton, more buzz from tonight
The Islanders’ denial of injury announcements to the media and fans forces reporters to go on a bit of a hunt for information. I didn’t even try to dig much tonight. But in catching up with dozens of old friends, information was being volunteered at a steady pace. Here are three nuggets. Have to believe my batting average will be at least .667.

1. Andy Sutton had surgery today. It is either a hand injury or a part of his hand. From my past experience, I would project an Andy absence of about 6 weeks.
2. Chris Campoli’s shoulder injury, not too bad. As reported, it is not related to last year’s shoulder injury, which required season-ending surgery. From what I heard tonight, the defenseman could be back before Nov. 1, and perhaps even earlier.
3. There could be some minor news Thursday. Can’t get solid radar on the subject, but it’s likely far from headline-grabbing news. Could be a depth player acquisition, maybe something a little more behind-the-scenes. Let’s put it in the category of P.S. (Pure Speculation) and say we could have more (Thomas) Pock-level news.
Gosh, I sound like the site That Cannot Be Named. If I’m wrong on this, I promise to do my best to stop.
Brian Cashman, in explaining today on WFAN why the Yankees give full disclosure, said it best: “In New York, nothing stays a secret for long.”
On Long Island, forget about it.

Hey, even if you sound like him, at least you don’t charge, eh?
Don’t worry, though. At least we know you actually know people inside the organization. ha! -
Michel Ouellet goes on re-entry waivers at 600k with his seventeen goals at age 26
from Tampa that’s one I think is worth a chance. -
Upset about the injuries… nothing seems to be easy with the Isles… Defense was looking good to start the season but now I’m not too sure. Spots 4-7 are up for grabs if they carry an xtra D Man.
Definites 1-3 of Witt/Streit/Martinek
Meyer/Gervais/Hillen/Pock for 4-7?
We’ll see……

thanks for the updates cb -keep em coming
too bad about the early injuries to the defense corps .hopefully the guys that are healthy + newly aquired pock can fill the void

Maybe it will be to announce the signing of Sugden to an NHL contract!!!

CHRIS YOU ARE TALKING INJURIES. PLEASE LET GORDON KNOW THAT HE CANNOT KILL OUT PLAYERS IN PRACTICE. TOM COUGHLIN DID THIS WITH THE GIANTS WHEHN HE SHOWED UP AND STRAHAN AMONG THREE TO FOUR OTHERE WERE INJURED DURING THE YEAR. PLEASE, PLEASE SEND A MESSAGE TO GORDON THAT WE APPRECIATE HIS EFFORTS BUT NOT TO KILL OUR GUYS JUST TO GET A MESSAGE ACROSS THAT HE IS ALL BUSINESS. TELL HIM TO BE A TEAM COACH, AND LESS SELFISH. THANKS…

FYI – BASEBALL AND HOCKEY INJURIES ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. THERE IS NOPHYSICAL PLAY IN BASEBALL. HOCKEY IS MORE PHYSICAL AND BODY PARTS CAN BE TARGETED. CHRIS, YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS. STOP HARPING About disclosure, it is better that there isn’t any. enough is enough. use your brain. christ!!!!
-
Yeah because a coach working his team hard to improve their conditioning is “selfish”.

Nice coverage Chris. It is great to have this inside track to the Islanders. I hope for the Islanders sake that both Sutton and Campoli are back sooner much rather than later. Both of them are considered top-4 defensemen on this team and are needed badly.
As for this acquisition, I hope it’s not a goalie off of the waiver wire, as it would not be worth it come the trade deadline. He’d have to clear waivers before he is allowed to be traded if the Islanders pick him up.

Thank you for the updates Chris. And love the humor behind some of the comments made. Especially the one about how in NY nothing stays a secret for long but on Long Island forget about it..<that’s funny! As for the “disclosure” of injury? It is done in other sports and I’ve heard from others that at times it’s done so other teams can’t prepare who to play against..element of surprise can sometimes be used as a defense for some. Is it fair? does it work? Guess it depends on how a coach prepares his team.

Hey Chris, thank you for going above and beyond to get us ANY type of news regarding the Isles.
The one funny thing I got from your post is that you called last nights fiasco a GAME!
That was some of the worse hockey I’ve ever seen come out of Nassau! They were clearly tired and very slow.
The “overspeed” system looked liked it was in reverse last night!! -
Hey chris maybe its to announce that the Isles will be offcialy demoted to the AHL …. Probably still would not win a playoff round ( just saying)
Well looks like our offense will be reminding us all of the 85 Oilers …..LOL
Guarantee everybody Islanders will not score 15 Goals in the Month of October

I actually love that KillerC took the time to come to this Islanders website, read the blogs, and waste everyones time by putting useless, childish comments on here. By doing that you just put down the great work that Chris is doing behind the scenes. You have to love dumb hockeys fans like these!
-
Just a disgusted Islander fan , that has had it up to here with this team and owners.
Islander fans think about this-after this years Presidential Election , this will be a third president in office between the time we actually won a PLAYOFF ROUND !!! Are you freaking serious…I mean the freaking Fla Marlins have won 2 championships between that time…WTF?????
-
Sorry Chris, just freaking fed up …
-
Totally understand Chris. But KillerC is on the money. I was there last night and it was a joke!

Chris,
Thanks for the updates. This makes the moves happening a little easier to understand. We are counting on you going forward. Keep up the good work.
