The first-ever Point Blank Night is tonight – Thursday, November 6 from 7-10 pm at Gabrielle’s Brasserie & Wine Bar in Rockville Centre when the Islanders play in Atlanta.
It is my very small way of saying thank you to all the readers that have made Point Blank a hit beyond my highest expectations.

The evening will include:
- Islanders – Thrashers on 3 large flatscreens
- A visit with Bridgeport Sound Tigers coach Jack Capuano, including a Q & A during the first intermission
- Wine tasting and free appetizers
- Conversation and merriment with your fellow Point Blankers
- A raffle for Islanders tickets and all sorts of decent stuff
All of the above are free without any strings attached. We’ve started to line up our raffle prizes (good thing, the event starts in mere hours!). Every Point Blank reader who shows up at Gabrielle’s has the opportunity to complete one raffle ticket by merely printing their real name and nothing else on it. Please see Kelly to get your raffle. Among the prizes:
- An authentic Frans Nielsen Sound Tigers jersey (with fight strap!), signed by Nielsen
- A decade-old game-used hockey stick from the second NHL season of Bryan Berard
- A pair of 200-level blue-line seats for an upcoming Islanders home game
- A few pairs of seats (not nearly as good, but hey – it’s a blog event) for upcoming Islanders home games
- A certificate for dinner for two to Gabrielle’s
- Islanders caps, tchotches and whatever else we can did up before 7:00 tonight
We are billing the evening at the Rockville Centre establishment as “an elegant evening of hockey conversation, wine tasting and watching the Islanders and Thrashers beat the snot out of each other on the television.”
For those of you who want to grab dinner, Gabrielle’s has a terrific three-course menu or you can go a la carte. This is one of the classiest joints on Long Island, but don’t get us wrong – the night will be informal, fun, whatever you want to make of it. Dress is casual but neat.
Gabrielle’s is located at 22 North Park Avenue in Rockville Centre, next to the inappropriately named Fantasy movie theatre (Don’t worry: “Igor” is playing there now). The phone number is 516.536.6611.

I’m not going to be in New York that week, or else I’d go, get tanked, and walk back to my parent’s place.
If you ever want to push a real Islanders place in RVC, try Bigelow’s on Long Beach Rd. They’ve still got a framed Newsday cover as you walk back to the bathroom. On top of that, they’ve got the best fried seafood outside of Rhode Island. Get them to sponsor a PB Night and I’ll make it, no questions asked.

I second the request for a future PB night to be located farther east. I’m a North Forker, so there’s no way I’m making it to RVC after work and no way I’d get the girlfriend to drive so I could throw some back.

If anyone runs or has a connection to other establishments in different places on LI, please let me know. I’d like to do a few of these during the season as long as I don’t turn this first one into a Gong Show.
I’ll post reminders (and more specific details) as the date approaches. Just got back from Hofstra, where I was asked to give a guest lecture – what a drop-off from last night’s star power. Back to blogging hockey in an hour.

Figures you have this event in my own back yard when I am away! For those that have not been to Gabrielle’s, it is a nice place with a little city vibe to it. Well worth a visit.
PS Bigelows is gerat, but it is the size of a shoe box. Not the best setting for a crowd.

First of all I’m so excited there’s so many Isles fans in RVC, and this is a great idea. I hope CB provides some girls but I’ll bring some as well.
I own a shop right around the corner from Gabrielle’s – it’s EXTRA BUTTER, a sneaker/streetwear boutique.
Not sure if anyone on here is familiar but my shop is film themed, we hold regular movie screenings (V for Vendetta on the night before – Nov. 5th!), and I’ll make sure to screen the “Dinner and a Dynasty” DVD prior to heading over to Gabrielle’s…
Consider it a pre-game…we’ll have some popcorn and movie candy of course.

Hey, I’d love to get together with other Isles fans so we can root for an organization that already threw in the towel even before the season started.
I love supporting a team filled with mildly talented minor league players and washed up has-beens. Don’t forget the over paid, average at best, goaltender with the expansive ego!
Yeah, the Islanders sure did a lot to get the fans back.
