2:40 pm - Cuts coming today; Bailey sticking?

No Spit(fires)
2:40 pm - After a two-hour practice focusing on systems and special teams, Scott Gordon told the assembled media - PB and Greg Logan - that roster cuts will be made this afternoon. Gordon will meet with each player and then the team will announce the roster moves.
I will not speculate on the cuts, only that it looks like Josh Bailey is sticking around (hope I didn’t get the Windsor Spitfires coach prematurely excited) . If that’s the case, it will be interesting to see Gordon’s opening night lines. Consistent with what I wrote last night, I do not understand the decision to keep the 19-year old on the Islanders roster and look forward to the coach’s explanation.

12:35 pm - It may or may not be Black Tuesday for some Islanders, but at least none of the players are wearing black jerseys at practice. The first few minutes feature a sometime irritated and perhaps sleep-deprived Scott Gordon, urging his players to be crisp and drive hard.
In the wake of some spirited discussion on my post about predicted line combinations, here’s today’s.
And I may have been wrong on Josh Bailey. We’ll know soon enough. I’ve listed the lines in no particular order because I don’t think you can label any of the them true first or fourth lines.
Tambellini - Nielsen - Hunter
Comrie - Park - Hilbert
Bergenheim - Bailey - Okposo
Sim - Weight - Guerin
Comeau - Colliton - Fritz - Smith - McLean

Was Jackman in the last group as well?
Chris, How was Comeau looked? I loved him last year but I haven’t heard much about him this season.
Jackman can’t fight!
Hunter can’t shoot, can;t fight.
We need more Fritzy… our 4ht line of comeau, park and hilbert is goling to kill us.
and Gordon better not kill out players in practice. dumbass!
whats the new goal song? this is a big deal! ac/dc? i bet its the same one the bruins use…
what do you mean you might be wrong about baily ?
regarding what
^ That he’s good?
Isles72, I think CB meant because he had projected Bailey to be out of the line-up for opening night. Now he is on a line that would suggest he might be sticking around.
Gordon was Irriated and Sleep Deprived!!!
Well he better get used to it! The fans felt the same way last year, and Story in the book did not change just the Cover!!
DeJa Vu !!
ok , thats what I figured
We’ve had Deja Vu now for the past 10 years!
IS it really possible that Comeau will be out of the line up if those top 4 lines are to be believed? That doesn’t make much sense to me, and I am huge on Bailey.
Bailey should be sent down. If he starts over Comeau, it clearly is a PR desperation move by Snow/Dey, since Schenn, Filatov and Boedker all look like they might start the season with their respective teams. I agree with CB. Bailey is not NHL-ready and certainly not over Comeau.
Comeau will be in the starting lineup. That is a given. You guys need to relax. He said these lines were not 100% Sadly Comeau might be our best all around player.
Bailey is good. He just needs another year of junior and most of the guys that are starting out with NHL clubs will eventually get sent down. Bailey just needs another year of seasoning.
And Mr.Greg Logan writes:
If the Isles keep Bailey on the NHL roster, it will be difficult to see it as much more than a public-relations move designed to reinforce their decision to trade down twice before selecting Bailey with the ninth overall pick. The fact is that seven of the eight players chosen in front of Bailey are expected to start the season in the NHL. Only Nashville’s seventh pick, Colin Wilson, is heading back to college at Boston University.
I love it… seven out of the eight. Keeps getting better folks!
I think we all need to take a breath…. Let’s wait and see who they let go tomorrow before we panic on how is kept and who is on what line. As much as I think the team is waiting too long to make their final cuts, we cannot controle that. The team should have everything finalized tomorrow, let’s wait and see how it shakes out.
Chris, are there any murmurs of the Isles maybe picking up any of the players on waivers?
7 out of 8 and they will get sent down anyway. Have you even seen bailey play/follow the OHL,Darren?
Keeping Bailey up here is Totally a PR 1ST CLASS SPIN JOB - The Islanders are spinning it cause Snow royally Messed up by trading down while Three studs where still on the board ….what else is new around here- Welcome to Islander Country
Killer Iusually don’t agree with you but you might be right.
This is the Islanders , have we not seen this Movie Before? Its the same BS Front office always trying to put a spin on everything- from
1}Getting rid of Nolan
2]Trading Down
3)Not being able to get players to play here
4]Injuries-and timetable for injured players
5]Not trading off assets last year at trading deadline (tank,satan}
6]Getting rid of Dubie ???? Now that was the best spin job of all-”he was out of shape” LOL Yeah ok Snow, He actually led your team to the playoffs not the 15 year man DP
According to Logan’s Blog, Bailey is on the Isles’ 23-man roster.
I cant believe how off-topic people get in these comments, wow. Bailey is gonna be here for 9 games, max… Id bet the farm on that unless he came out like flippin Malkin or something. All this is going to do is let him get a little taste of things, which in and of itself isnt going to damage ANY player worth a crap. Its what like 80% of the top 10 draftees are going to do- get their 9 game taste. I dont see the big deal at all. Now if he isnt lighting things up and they STILL kept him, that would be a totally different story. But why assume that? Lets see what happens, you know?
Last year we past on Peter Mueller?
22 goals 32 assists 54 points?
Correct me if i’m wrong but those stats are better than any player on the Island last year!
Okposo stats
2 goals 3 assists 5 pts.
Now 7 out of the 8 picked before the Islanders are going to be playing. Bailey & Okposo have a HUGE amount of pressure on them, thanks to our Lame Duck GM.
And to top it all off they play on the softest team in the league and with a bunch of over the hill past their prime players.
Good job Garth! Bring back Milbury!!!
