PUTTIN’ ON THE FRITZ
3:05 pm – Expect enforcer on Florida trip
3:05 pm - The buzz out of Iceworks this afternoon after practice is 6-8 enforcer Mitch Fritz will be on the roster for the Islanders’ two-game trip in Florida.
No guarantees Fritz will get in either of the games, but Scott Gordon is being consistent with his comments that he’ll turn to Fritz on a “per need” basis. Fritz has played three games so far on the Tigers’ fourth line, most recently with Jason Pitton and Tyler Haskins, and has no points or penalty minutes.
The relentless Mike Fornabaio of the CT Post first reported on his blog this morning that Fritz was not on the ice for Sound Tigers practice. The 27-year old Fritz has played the majority of his pro career in the American Hockey League and has yet to make his NHL regular season debut.
Of course, the question on every fan’s mind is, if Fritz plays Thursday and/or Saturday, who sits?
Respond – as we know you will – in Comments.

We need a guy like Fritz to be sent out after Comrie gets humped into the boards by a guy who is twice the size (Comrie 5′ 10″ Haha..maybe on skates). Nasty Nate sits.
-
YES!!!!!! PLEASE SIT DILBERT!!!
-
honestly though maybe thompson
-
That’s what I’m talking about!!!!! I could think of 10 guys who can sit. My guess is he will play one game and it will be Hilbert who sits.
-
I dont care who sits as long as he plays! Thank you Chris!
-
I really do not think that Andy Hilbert will be the one to sit. He has been impressive at both ends of the ice, as well as having two points through three games this season. I am not saying that I am a huge Hilbert fan, but he is one of the more consistent bottom-6 forwards we have. He will remain on the roster for these two games. I would lean more towards seeing Thompson taking a seat in any game that Fritz is a part of. Whether he is used in Florida is still up for debate as well, considering our games against the two Florida teams usually don’t get too out of hand and fight-filled.
-
i would sit tambellini or thompson. glad to see that we have an enforcer up after getting pummelled by the sabres.
-
Hell, put DP in the press box. What do we need an extra goalie on the bench for?
-
Lightning are 0-2-1…if they are losing to the Isles 2-0 or 3-1 late in the second period someone is going to try to rowl up his team by starting a fight and it probably wont be Witter in the melee. I dont care who fights though just as long as the Islanders are up by a few goals.
-
The one problem the Islanders could fix and they have finally dont it!!! Best news about the Islanders i’ve heard since draft day!!! If they keep him up long enough i might END might 3 year dought of attending Islander games!!!
-
Stupid to sit Hilbert. He’s been one of the only bright spots on the team this season (Weight, Park, Sim are the others, imo). Too early to sit Tamby, although he deserves to. Thompson is the obvious choice, although he has been pretty good. Hilbert moves back to center.
-
Frau Blücher….
-
wow chris even when the islanders lose i have fun because even though the arena is bad, there is always something good happening there
-
Sit Tambellini, not Hilbert. I’d rather see Thompson stay over Tambellini too, as he adds some toughness, but it’d be nice if Comeau took Thompson’s spot sooner than later. Maybe let Bergy skate with Nielson and Hunter?
Imo, Tambellini’s problem is more than just getting used to the NHL, it looks like he needs to add considerable mass to be effective at this level. Gets pushed off the puck way too easily.
-
Nice of Gordon to show for work today, guess he didn’t need another day off.
-
CB…how long have you been wanting to post that headline? I don’t see any resemblance between a 6’8″ enforcer with Frankenstein’s Monster…thats Franken-steeeen!
-
How about we put some effort into finding a player who can play and intimidate and if needed, fight and not rely on a “fighter” who brings nothing else to the table.
-
Stop crying about everything Ed. You sound like my wife.
-
Anybody see Godard vs. Cote last night? Sick fight!!!
-
It was a good one! Godard got that free arm out of his jersey and went off on Cote, but Cote still stood tall and got a few good shots in. Good Bout!
-
At one point Godard was throwing with both hands at the same time. It weas classic. Why we let him go I’ll never know.
-
we need to score goals, blake comeau is the answer. he was solid every shift he played last season and deserved a spot on this roster new coach or not.
FREE COMEAU
-
Hey jaxx, stop accepting mediocrity.
-
LOL!!!! I’m with you on that.
-
I think it’s too early to sit Tamby, even though he’s had a rough start. I’d sit Thompson. I’m not as crazy as dressing this guy as a lot of you apparently are, but if he needs to play, sit Thompson.
-
Gordon’s two boys from Providence will not sit.Thompson & Hilbert know overspeed system
-
Hey Chris, when do you think Gordons going to actually follow through on letting the kids play? Meaning when will KO and Tamby see PP time? I see absolutely no difference in the systems by him or Nolan.
-
YES! FINALLY!!!!! Good Job Gordie.
-
There is know doubt that a guy like Fritz should be in the line up. I dont believe in Gordons Logic of a part time Enforcer that is Nonsense! 90% of the Teams have one on their Bench that in itself means you need one! And yes sit thompson he is not a goal scorer or a Heavyweight, that is the trade off!
-
And the Godard Vs Cote Fight was a great one another reason on having Fritz in the lineup!
-
I’m not quite sure if Thompson would or should sit..
1. Providence boy.
2. He’s a +2 (Leads the team)
3. He brings a ton of energy to the 4th line.I personally like him.
-
Hilbert has been one of only a few Islanders that has hustled his A$$ off on every shift… He’s been their best forward and you so called fans still want him off the team or sitting.
Thompson has not done anything except lose a fight… has he even touched a puck yet…?
Thompson of Tambellini should sit… and most likely it won’t be Tambellini.
WAKE UP!
Watch… Fritz won’t even suit up….
DOC
-
Hilbert will not and should not sit. My guess would be Tamby.
-
I didn’t realize you can win games with fights? I thought you had to score more then the other team? Comeau in BP and Fritz who probally has LESS talent then Thompson on the big club? FIRE GORDON and SNOW!
-
I feel like Bergie might sit, Tamby def deserves too. Thompson was better after the first game, Tamby deserves to sit, hes shown me nothing, again.
Mike- Theres no other talent there, might as well protect the little we got.
-
He’ll probably play in the Panthers game, that was the team we played in pre-season where Lee had to get carted off on a stretched then Fritz mixed it up at the end.
-
hey mike, to win you need your players to be safe and to have room. an enforcer allows you to do that by intimidating the other team and it puts asses in the seats.
-
comrie got hit from behind and okposo stood up for him. normally thats good but the only reason y he did it was because no one else would

Who sits: Tambellini
