STUFF. THIS. WEEK.
Two games; Will (the other) Crosby be a scratch?

Tuesday, Oct. 14: Crosby & Nash (no Stills & Young), Westbury Music Fair. The Islanders have listed David Crosby as day-to-day. Actually, I just re-checked yesterday’s game notes and it says Crosby is very day-to-day.

Islanders Practice at the NVMC, beginning at 11:00 am. Often after tough games like yesterday, you’ll see a lighter touch from a head coach. Curious to see how Scott Gordon handles this one.

Wednesday, October 15: Islanders Practice, location tbd. If DiPietro is to play in Tampa Bay, you’d think he’d need two full on-ice workouts Tuesday and Wednesday.

Lewis Black at Town Hall in Manhattan. I love comedy. I like “The Daily Show” and some political commentary. But can I tell you something? I just do not get Lewis Black. Am I alone? He sold out a week at this legendary joint, so I may be.

Thursday, October 16: Islanders at Tampa Bay, 7:35. In the four days between posting this and the game, those crazy kids at the Lightning will have re-shuffled their defense at least a coupla more times, no?

Happy Birthday to Sean Bentivoglio and Mark Wotton of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. And to Jane Norton Botta of Plainview, aka Mom.

Friday, October 17:  The Oyster Festival in Oyster Bay, 6:30 - 10:30 pm. A great Long Island tradition. See you there.

The Long Island Auto Show, all weekend at the NVMC. I’m fine with my Highlander.

Saturday, October 18: The home opener of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 7:00 pm. The Tigers host Albany. Bridgeport beat the Rats in their home opener Saturday, 4-2, on two goals by Trevor Smith. For Sound Tigers tickets call 203.334.GOAL. A real nice night at a pro hockey game. Point Blank will be there.

Islanders at Florida, 7:05: Thankfully, that early report about a fractured vertabrae for Bryan McCabe was false and that it’s a contusion and lower back strain. According to the Panthers - imagine that! - Bryan will miss about two weeks.

Sunday, October 19: The Sound Tigers host Philadelphia, 4:00 pm.  You can catch a 6:30 ferry and still be home at a decent time.

Monday, October 20: The Islanders Business Club is hosting a Golf Outing at Tam O’Shanter Country Club. The golf portion is sold out, but there are still tickets available for the dinner, where you’ll have plenty of time to hang with Bossy, Trottier - it’s the seventh anniversary of his number-retirement ceremony - Gillies and some of your current favorites. For information contact Michelle Winter at 516.501.6764 or at michelle.winter@newyorkislanders.com. Proceeds benefit the Islanders Children’s Foundation.

Stuff.This.Week. is the only place on the blog where Chris gets into life outside hockey. He does not plan on using Point Blank as a personal forum to bore you with an essay on why “Bridge Over Troubled Water” is the greatest song ever written, recommend that you, um, check out Daniel Radcliffe giving a pretty amazing performance in “Equus” on Broadway or wonder why “Appaloosa,” the new Western with Ed Harris and the guy from the Lord of the Rings, didn’t get better reviews.

    Chris,

Not only is Lewis Black histerically funny he leaves you with a lot to ponder after one of his performace and with the loss og George Carlin we need the Lewis Black’s of the comedy world.

Now please tell me you like Curb Your Enthusiam so I don’t lump you in with Joe Buck

    Nice Chris!
What you write only makes me wonder if this was an attempt to take our minds off that horrible game yesterday??

    Chris,

Lewis Black is one of the few who can hold a candle to the late great George Carlin. If you tell me you don’t like Chris Rock, we may have to fight.

Crosby has been day to day for 30 years. He will outlive all of us.

What don’t you get about Lewis black? I think he is a comedic genius. He makes me literally laugh out loud when I listen to him on xm in the car.

What’s holding you back on him?

What’s the deal with Flash? Why do I have a sick feeling in my stomach that all is not right and that he is out?
