THE NEW FALL LINEUP
A Season with the Isles
by B.D. Gallof
Sure it’s my favorite sport. But over the years an Isles season is like waiting for some new Fall TV show. What will it be: A sitcom? A tear jerking drama? Some sort of reality television? Probably all of the above?

For me, it never fails. As the new TV shows hit the circuit, so does the start of the Islanders season. One can pick which was going to be more entertaining over past few years. But how do we approach it this year? Let’s pick up a clicker and find out!
To be honest, The NY Islanders show has had just about it all happen. We have a touch of Desperate Housewives, most fans sit desperate for a winning season and a big turnaround. So if they falter once again, will we cheat on them with Sidney at a Pens game? Will we run off with Ovie and a Caps game?
HBO must be missing the Sopranos as Showtime now has the hottest shows lately (Dexter anyone?). Too bad they weren’t keyed into antics on Long Island. We Isles fans had our share of Bada Bing and “the family” as we hit the news over a tumultuous summer. Luckily we imported from Boston our new “made man”. Full Overspeed ahead.

Then, on each eve, are we then to watch The Ultimate NHL Fighter? If no pugilist is able to make the Isles, Mike Comrie will be forced from toe drags and offensive wizardry to mix it up to keep teams honest. This chippy fellow even mixed it up just the other night.
As TV’s HOUSE continues with an obsessed gimpy doctor who will do anything to get patients well, we have the same with RICK. Our main character is a goalie hellbent on playing every game and making the difference. He will take on everyone and anyone to get what he wants. This season will he be able to shake off over 6 months of rust?
We even have a buddy show. No not Miami Vice, but Long Island Vice. Two aging vets from St. Louis try to recapture their more productive days on the mean streets of Long Island. Ferrari not included. Maybe more like a mini-van?
What I’ll be tuning in for this season is the kids. I am watching eagerly for them to sink or swim. The Isles can take loss after loss in my book, as long as some future stays bright. Bailey might not be a full-fledged rookie, where he is most likely to be sent down within or before 9 games. However it is two other men who are most likely to succeed in my eyes.

B.D my Facebook buddy. Always read you on the Hockeybuzz and now here at pointblank. Both great sites. You are a creative son-of-a-gun. I’m one of the small minority who hopes for all the kids to succeed and the vets to be traded at the deadline for asssets and hopefully a Tavares pick up. I know you aren’t really one of those guys but I think “that” and a new building will resusatate us.
