THE PRE-GAME SHOW: Rangers at Islanders, 7:05 pm
Skinner…Brandon…3rd Jersey…Score-O!

by admin on October 27th, 2008 at 1:20 pm

1:20 pm, NVMC - News and notes from the morning skate, along with the beginning of our Score Prediction thread…

Skinner In: Brett Skinner will make his NHL debut tonight. “What better way to do it than Islanders-Rangers”? he said. The defenseman emphasized that his transition is made easier because the Sound Tigers play the same system style as the Islanders.

Gordon on Skinner, his former player at Providence (AHL): “My experience with Brett is that he finds the open man and makes quick passes.” Gordon said he spoke with Bridgeport coach Jack Capuano, who said Skinner’s play in his own end was strong the last two weeks beyond his eight assists in his last five games.

Witt on IR: A sharp-eyed Point Blank reader (Brian from Massapequa) pointed out that Brendan Witt has two asterisks next to his name on the roster on the Islanders official team website. The ** stand for being on Injured Reserve.

Sutton Out: Injured Islanders defenseman (redundant, eh?) Andy Sutton is not ready to return tonight. He took the extended morning skate as he did on Saturday. The Sutton situation is Exhibit 1-A for the Islanders to provide some disclosure to fans about a player’s rehabilitation schedule.

Without question, Sutton is dying to get back into the lineup and doing everything he can to be ready. If the team would explain why it’s necessary to allow a certain amount of time for Sutton’s hand injury to heal, it might be better understood why Sutton cannot play against the Islanders’ fiercest rival tonight.

Thoughts for Brandon: Appropriately, Gordon spoke on behalf of the organization by saying he was concerned for Brandon Sutter and that his well-wishes were with the Carolina forward. Gordon spoke with Doug Weight this morning at length about the hit, a clear indication that two days later it is still on everyone’s minds. Greg Logan just posted an excellent entry off his conversation with Weight.

The Gordons at the Garden: Gordon learned something new when his family visited New York City yesterday – the train arrives in the same building where the Rangers play their home games. “Here are my boys, getting off the train wearing their Islanders garb, flexing,” laughed Gordon. For the record, nobody gave them a hard time.

Third Jersey Revealed: The old-new-old Islanders jersey, the “Third Jersey” as they say in the merchandise business, will be unveiled today around 5:00 pm. By almost all accounts, it will look like the one pictured at left from Throwback Night two seasons ago. We heard there could be a change in the lettering and numbering from orange to white (our theory: to satisfy play-by-play broadcasters), but we have been unable to get confirmation.

When those jerseys were first worn more than 30 years ago, there were no names on the back. Even if the Islanders wanted to honor that tradition, our experience tells us the National Hockey League would never go for it.

SCORE-0!

Going up against any team while missing four of your top defensemen would be a challange. Taking on the 8-2-1 Rangers - not spectacular, but impressively efficient in beating the teams they should beat – figures to be a monumental task.

You know Tom Renney had a plan by Sunday morning after watching the tape of the Islanders racking up 60 shots against Carolina. Let’s see what Scott Gordon has in mind. Besides his strategy, Gordon must prepare his team to be disciplined amidst all the emotion.

RANGERS 5, ISLANDERS 2

Point Blank record for ’08-09: 5-1

  1. avatar Mike says:

Could get ugle tonight, the Rags are strong and the Islanders backline is a mess because of injuries. Would love nothing more to see them beat the Rangers badly but I don’t think it is happening tonight!

    Rangers – 7 Islanders – 2

  2. avatar kevin says:

nice job brian. i think rnagers will win 3-1 and i think there will be 2 fights and two losses. rags will be happy they one but it will be sad that they only scored 3 against a back-up goaltender and a make-shift defense (4 injured out of top 6)

  3. avatar Pat says:

And why is Fritz not called up?

  4. avatar kevin says:

btw, botta, you got me excited with the words of brandon. i thought we acquired sugden for the rags game.

    mccain08

  5. avatar Dave says:

“If the team would explain WHY it’s necessary for him to take a certain amount of time to heal it would be better understood why Sutton is not able to rush back to play”. C.B. say it aint so! You’re falling in line with the media on this? I’ll explain why it’s necessary,,because he’s injured. Don’t we all know this? He’s injured, that’s why it’s necessary for him to take time to come back. Why are you guys pushing this so hard? I understand WHEN they get hurt that the team should give us a timetable on a return. But now that he is skating isn’t it pretty obvious that the timetable is day to day? I must be missing something here.

  6. avatar Brian from Massapequa says:

I actually agree with CB, 5-2 Rags. Thanks Kevin.

  7. avatar UIF says:

    4-2 Rangers.

  8. avatar "Dissillusioned Brian" in VA says:

8-0 NYR! Usually I love this rivalry and would set up my workday and be pumped for this game. This year not so much!
THANK YOU GARTH FOR A WONDERFUL BRAND OF REBUILDING!
We are officially the early 90′s Ottawa Senators! Only difference was they were an expansion team!
As Isles fans we must make a statement and not attend Isles games. Get the attendance down to like 3,197 a game.

  9. avatar NYI365-318J1 says:

interesting rivalry fact: currently the Islanders post a 97-97-19-3 all-time regular-season record against the rangers. So this year one of us WILL be the first with 100 wins vs the other.

We all know that in this rivalry ANYTHING can happen, so tonight let’s hope that “anything” is us winning with injury’s to a 1/4 of our roster.

    LET’S GO ISLANDERS ! ! !!!

    rANGERS SUCK!!!

  10. avatar kevin says:

i dont mind the not telling us what they are injured with but just tell me how long. should be a good game. ranger blogs are joking about the arena but are worried. the whole back-up goaltending thing and isles play best against the rags. its good stuff to read

  11. avatar JLaMonica16 says:

get skinner to sit his fat ass on Lundquist, put him on the IR and let those loud mouth Ranger fans get a tast of what we’re going through.

No DP, no Witt, without 3 of our other top 4 defensemen…and a completely quiscent offense….this is going to be awful.

  12. avatar 325CPA says:

With an even thinner D-Corp I bet the team wishes they never let Davison leave at the end of last year. Without Ricky in Net the D is under even more pressure. Nothing good can come of having no D except the #1 or 2 pick in the draft. I see an ugly night 5-2 with Campoli, Streit & Gervais playing almost 90 minutes combined.

  13. avatar Heyheyhey says:

    Are we allowed to forfeit?

  14. avatar andy says:

    Isles-1
    Rangers-7

    here’s to another lousy game

  15. avatar kevin says:

lol heyheyhey. davison would provide some toughness and is a legit defenceman and not an ahl call-up

  16. avatar Ryan Tendrup says:

This is going to be bad… I definitely think Garth needs to make some moves, maybe acquire a defensive defenseman. I know we don’t want to trade picks, or young prospects, but there’s no need for our fans to watch their team get slaughtered. Thomas Pock is our biggest d-man, and he’s only 6’1″, 210 lbs. Not exactly a crease clearer. Even if we need to give up a 6th or 7th round pick for a guy like Davison, just do it. We desperately need some toughness to this lineup. NOW.

  17. avatar jax says:

No Fritz or anybody else that can fight = Colts vs. Titans for me.

  18. avatar mike says:

No Fritz for this game? Thought he was going to be called up on an “as-needed” basis. Don’t we “need” him for this game (and the upcoming Flyers game)? Would it really do that much damage to sit Tamby, Franz, Hilbert, or another underwhelming forward for one game, in order to generate a little excitement (and to allow someone to protect the team)?

  19. avatar Darren says:

    Rangers 6 Isles 1
and that’s being real nice to the Islanders!

  20. avatar Nunzio says:

    Chris,

I’m already tired of all the B.S. that Garth Snow is trying to throw our way. From whom is he getting his training? It’s not like he was down next to Bill Torrey for 10 Years and saw what it was like to build a team. We need a scorer and we need a defensive defenseman & QUICK. If nothing else, lets get a big guy up hear to kick som AR$E so that we don’t skate off the ICE looking like Wussies every night. We’re losing the battles & the wars!

Where’s Josh Bailey, did he stub his toe??

  21. avatar Pat says:

I will lead a “WE WANT FRITZ” chant tonight if he is not dressed or even called up for the game

  22. avatar Nunzio says:

    BTW, I think it’ll be 6-1 RAGS!!

  23. avatar Nunzio says:

Oh yeah…Bring Back Blake Comeau but drop Tambellini. Have we even heard his name mentioned in the telecasts the last 3 or 4 games??

  24. avatar dmarie says:

CB? I just love the side humor you write with on here, cracks me up!
As for score tonite? geeez! With all the injured players we have out an I know some will say anything can happen (we may win) but I have a feeling Rangers are gonna eat us up (sorry) don’t shoot me for saying that I wish it wasn’t so, but I have to be real, I’m gonna guess Rangers 6 Isles 2 maybe we’ll squeeze 3?

  25. avatar Joe says:

This team is a joke, what happened to “per-game need’ for the enforcer? Clearly, we have no toughness, against a guy like Colton Orr, and others like Dubinsky and Voros, we are going to get plowed. I hope one of the Isles gets run right into the parking lot!

  26. avatar JLaMonica16 says:

    My prayer for the day:

Islanders play an extremely conservative trap-oriented defensive system, stay out of the box, and limit the rag$ scoring chances by keeping them out of the slot.

Speedy forecheck wears the rag$ down..leading to frustrated penalties.

Isles FINALLY bury open net shots during PP opportunities, while keeping consistent pressure on the 5on5 forecheck.

Gordons “system” emerges, 3-2 Isles in shootout

  27. avatar Joe says:

    6-2 Rags.

  28. avatar MiKe says:

Lets see, no DP, no Witt, no Sutton, no F Meyer, no Sillinger etc…Rangers are what 7-2 and like a top 5 team right now? If the Isles win I’ll wear my tongue as a tie. I hope we can score a goal. Besides, we’ll probably be facing bench goalie and ex-Isle Valiquette, as all teams play their bench goalies vs us. SIGH. I sure cant wait to see those new 3rd jerseys!!!

  29. avatar bCarey says:

    8-0? 7-2?

You people are forgetting that this series is generally dominated by the team that is lower in the standings.

    Islanders 4, Rangers 3 (SO)

  30. avatar Joe says:

bCarey, This team is far worse than last year.

  31. avatar Tim says:

My prediction is that the Isles will show once again that they have no heart, and that the “rivalry” is nothing more than media/fan hype. Score? 5-2 Rags. Another in a recent line of Isles-Rags snoozefests.

  32. avatar Jislander7 says:

The Islanders are arguably the worst team in the NHL and with their goalie and top 4 defensemen out, this could get very ugly. Tavares here we come!

  33. avatar ISLESFAN999 says:

I CANNOT BELIEVE SNOW WILL NOT BRING UP FRITZ IS HE THAT STUPID. WE NEED SOME GRIT, SIZE NASTINESS. I AM SICK OF WATCHING THIS TEAM. WE ARE SMALL AND HAVE NO GRIT.. I CANT BELIEVE SNOW WOULDN’T HAVE AN ENFORCER ON THIS TEAM!!! I DONT CARE IM NOT EXPECTING MUCH THIS YEAR BUT WE NEED GRITTTT

  34. avatar JOE RVC says:

carolina is a pretty good team and we outplayed them sat. sooo anything can happen tonight .time for these young guys to do some big things…bergy and kyle, big game for #20 tonight

  35. avatar Islander505 says:

Wow…..just a smattering of Islander victory predictions here.
Sure glad you guys never played on any of my teams….especially you Mr. Botta.
(Actually, I had a guy play on my baseball team–MSBL–not so long ago that would pick our team to lose on a weekly basis in the league website..And he was a PITCHER..I’ll just simply say that things would get a little testy in the dugout from time to time)

I’m not sure that I have ever seen a team blog where the author consistently picks his team to lose.

So tell me CB, when you watch the games are you rooting for your prophesies to be fulfilled?

Isles 4-3 in OT, Hilbert with the game winner with a minute ten left in OT.
How’s that for the Audacity of Dope?

  36. avatar Tim says:

You mean Hilbert will score on his own net for the Rangers win, right?

  37. avatar Chris TMC says:

CT Isles Fan: Nah, that is jut a fan-made idea- Ive seen it before. And because of the oval behind the NY it looks a bit too much like that religious kids group (Nazarene Youth Initiative or something like that, shortened to NYI) that some people have thought had something to do with the Islanders in the past. They use blue and orange as their colors, that doesnt help matters lol.

Its about a 99% that the new unis are simply going to be retros with the normal logo. chris Botta already said that in his blog, he even put up a picture just FYI.

  38. avatar Joe says:

505, its just being honest, why predict an Islander win when it in fact, is almost impossible against a team playing like the Rangers are right now.

  39. avatar JLaMonica16 says:

    505:

so CB should predict the islanders to win every game….and then NOT be called biased???

  40. avatar Brian B says:

Oh my God what is the big deal with Fritz…wanna bring him up and send another young guy we are developing down? For what..a few fights?

Anyway…I have a feeling that Isles will win I don’t know why. I say 3-2 Isles in the shootout.

  41. avatar Tim says:

Brian, Hilbert would look good in the press box for Fritz. Nobody said anything about scratching a youngster. Do you enjoy watching the Isles get bitched around? Cus I sure don’t.

  42. avatar CT Isles Fan says:

    Thanks Chris TMC.

I’ve read everything Chris wrote so far. Of course I know what everyone thinks its going to be. I’m just concerned when I keep hearing:
“first complete uniform change since 1996″

  43. avatar Chris TMC says:

:D I understand what you mean CT Isles Fan, but I think that statement refers to the fact that they are not just going to wear a royal third but also royal shorts, etc to go along with it. the dark navy blue stuff really wouldnt go that well with a bright blue third. we will find out soon enough, but I have a feeling thats what it means.

  44. avatar UIF says:

505: I guess alternatively we can all just give predictions like the Bears fans from the old SNL skits: Islanders 372, Rangers -3

  45. avatar andy says:

    DDDAAAAAAAAAA ISLES!!!!

  46. avatar Chris TMC says:

    LOL!!! Hahaha

  47. avatar CT Isles Fan says:

I think you are right Chris. Let’s hope so.

  48. avatar Tom says:

This season is SO 1998, 1999 & 2000. This team is lost cause. They just don’t have that many NHL players when there are no injuries. Anything’s possible. It doesn’t matter all that much though. This team was built to lose. Even Garth would admit that.

  49. avatar HilbertSnipe says:

I think I’m havin another heart-attack, botta. Thats gonna make it a bakers dozen for me. DAAAA ISLES.

  50. avatar JLaMonica16 says:

as much as it may sound completely meaningless in the full scheme of things…I know bringing in an enforcer will not in anyway help us WIN…

but god i hate looking like such a bunch of pussy’s as we’re getting beaten mercelessly on the scoreboard

  51. avatar bCarey says:

Oh man, John Tavares. We’ll probably lose the lottery to the Leafs. The league will totally rig it.

  52. avatar Chris TMC says:

Thats not what happened in the last game. The Isles are the ones who threw big hits, the Isles outchanced them, and they were not beaten mercilessly on the scoreboard. They played what was actually a pretty good game, and lost.

  53. avatar admin says:

505: I no longer have a major rooting interest in these games. Keep in mind, silly me, I picked the NYI over Dallas last week – my only loss of the season so far.

I root for a few particular people in the games I may be fond of, but other than that I just want a good game. Saturday was a great game…CB

  54. avatar Jim M says:

I would hope for point production from Okposo and Tambs tonight I think thats an important thing to look at for this contest. Do not want to bother predicting this one but what the hell. 4-2 our Islanders with an empty netter from comrie

  55. avatar Tim says:

One can only hope Mike Comrie is not out there to protect a one-goal lead.

  56. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Chris TMC-Guerin and Weight were the ones who brought the physical play up but over all Car was more physical. You saw Okposo in trouble after the Weight hit, Comrie moved in to help him but had Carolina chosen to wipe the Isles out at any time they could have and nothing could have stopped them. Carolina was nice about it.

I think it is very interesting that Snow just does not get it. What I mean is in some ways he is very forward thinking “you want my cap space then your gonna pay for it” we really haven’t seen it come to fruition. He doesn’t seem to understand where the game of hockey is at and where it is going. We must have the smallest and softest team in the NHL.

  57. avatar JLaMonica16 says:

haha, iinstead of toe-drag comrie its more like turnover-comrie this year, he is a sad excuse for a top 6 player.

anyway, anyone think Weight can throw a sutter-like hit on Dubinsky tonite? Maybe knock out fruity pants Gomez on his ass?

  58. avatar BringBackNyles says:

I think the road teams have dominated this series lately nd records never really mattered in this rivalry…so Ill go with…5-2 rangers, then we come back and win at MSG next week

  59. avatar BringBackNyles says:

Thinks must really be bleak for ticket sales, the fanbase of season tickets must be at historic lows, as the isles have announced that they will be selling Loudville student tickets tonight

    That means;

    A. there are a ton of tickets left for the game
    B. They can’t even sell rangers tickets at face value

All due respect to the islanders, why in the heck would anyone now buy a ticket plan? EVERY game is being deeep discounted, and anyone with half a brain could use an old college id or a family fun code and get tickets for as low $10 nightly then select from the thousands of empty seats.

  60. avatar Chris TMC says:

You still get a better deal if you buy season tickets. And people who are not in college cannot use old college IDs to purchase tickets. Its not about “having half a brain” its about being like 19yo. If you are an older student they will want to see the date on that ID that it is for this semester.

  61. avatar BringBackNyles says:

I didn’t mean to knock the ticket holders, so I hope you didn’t take it that way, my comment was more to the islanders: stop devaluing your product! No one is coming anyway, and every day i get a BOGO free email, or a family pack email, or a Amex or King Kullen email (heck I got a PLUM code online that got me $26 tickets to see crosby on a sat night..I don’t even know what Plum is)

This is the start of the year, what will the offers be by year end?

The fact that they are selling rangers tickets night of game for $10 is a very bad sign

  62. avatar Joe says:

Untrue Chris TMC, Ive watched people do it.

Being a student is awesome if you go to the coliseum the day of. You can actually watch the Islanders play, in decent seats, for less than the cost of seeing a movie in theaters. (With this team, you just sacrafice a little entertainment value)

  63. avatar Joe says:

Nyles, they did it last year too for the 3 of 4 Rags/Isles games at the coliseum (I went to all of them that had discounts haha).

  64. avatar BringBackNyles says:

Chris, if you have an id that does not have a year on it, I have never seen anyone turned away. My id is from 1995, they just give it a quick glance.

  65. avatar kevin says:

    goin to game c ya

  66. avatar jax says:

Titans 31 Colts 24. That’s the only game I’ll be watching tonight.

  67. avatar Tim says:

id rather watch the blue jackets play the thrashers than any football game. enjoy your colts game.

  68. avatar jax says:

Tim- I would watch an Islander game over anything on tv. Including my giants in the superbowl. Now I can’t watch this crap anymore. I’m all for the rebuilding. I really am. I just can’t sit here and wath this physically overmatched team any longer. They are soft, small and boring. Snow feeds us crap all the time about toughness when we need it and how all these young kids need time up here and chase Nolan out of town etc etc. So gordon sends down comeau and keeps one of the boston connection boys. We play the rangers and we have no toughness in the lineup. When will you people stop drinking the Kool Aid??? At some point you have to make a stand.

  69. avatar "Dissillusioned Brian" in VA says:

Colts win! They have too. My brother (BIG COLTS FAN!)and I (HATE ANYTHING BOSTON/Jets fan) are driving (9 hrs. ouch!)out from DC to Indy this weekend to watch them hopefully beat the Pats and catch the Pacers play Boston the night before

    Colts 20-17 TONIGHT.

  70. avatar TuxTax says:

At least the new jersey is pretty cool

  71. avatar Strummer's Army says:

ISLANDER’S SIGN ENFORCER: ISLES SUPER SHARP GM GARTH SNOW IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THE SIGNING OF THE COP FROM THE 70′S DISCO BAND THE VILLAGE PEOPLE. “WE WERE VERY PLEASED HE WAS AVAILABLE TO PLAY THE COP ROLE ON OUR TEAM. HE SEEMS LIKE HE IS CUSTOM MADE FOR THE ROLE AND HAS ALL THE ATTRIBUTES WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN OUR PLAYERS.”
WHEN ASKED BY NEWSDAYS GREG LOGAN IF SIGNING “A 50 SOMETHING YEAR OLD GAY GUY, WHO HAS NEVER PLAYED HOCKEY, HAS NEVER SKATED ON ICE ONLY ON ROLLER DISCO FLOORS, AND ONLY BEEN IN A CAT FIGHT REALLY ADDRESSES THE GLARING NEED FOR AN ENFORCER.” SNOW RESPONDED ANGERLY “IS THIS A JOKE? WHO WROTE THAT QUESTION?” LOGAN ASSURED HIM IT WAS NOT A JOKE AND THAT HE WROTE THE QUESTION AND ISLANDER FANS WOULD LIKE TO KNOW. SNOW AGAIN WITH GREAT ANGER SAID “THE COP AND THE WRECKER (WHO IS PLAYING IN UTAH) FILL OUR NEEDS FOR COPS ON THIS TEAM. COMBINE THOSE GUYS WITH JON SIM WHO’LL NAG YOU LIKE A LONELY HOUSE WIFE AND NATE THOMPSON WHO IS REALLY GOOD AT TAKING A PUNCH AND THIS IS A VERY TOUGH TEAM!” SNOW THEN SLAPPED LOGAN IN THE FACE AND CALLED HIM A SKANK WHO DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO ACCESORIZE HIS OUTFITS. CHECK BACK LATER WITH NYI.COM FOR FULL COVERAGE OF THE PRESSER ON ISLESTV AND SEE FOOTAGE OF GARTH SNOW,RADEK MARTINEK, AND ANDY HILBERTS SLUMMBER PARTY. THE GOSSIP IS TO DIE 4!

  72. avatar Islander505 says:

    Jlamonica…
“so CB should predict the islanders to win every game….and then NOT be called biased???”

Nope, I’d rather see the former top dog PR guy simply kept his predictions to himself, or among a small circle of friends, or his bookie.
Predicting that a former employer is gonna lose in a well read worldwide blog emits a stench of sour grapes.
I gotta wonder how the guys in the uniforms and behind the bench feel about the former PR head making these predictions?
Might motivate ‘em, then again it might frustrate them.
Either way, I don’t think it’s healthy for an organization as unhealthy as the Isles to have ex-PR guy predicting losses every night.

    CB
“505: I no longer have a major rooting interest in these games.”
That’s kinda sad CB…Sorry to hear that you have become so jaded.
But c’mon CB…..you have already built up an impressive 5-1 record so far this season with your predictions. You are well on your way to becoming the Stan Fischler/Jimmy the Greek of the blogosphere. If you were playing these games in Vegas, you would be up a tidy sum by now.

Do you really expect me (or anyone)to believe that you won’t be rooting for the Rangers tonight to pad your lofty stats?

I might have been born in the morning, but it wasn’t this morning.

Just my opinion…..from two time zones away….where I will be cheering heartily for our boys and geezers in blue…or orange….or whatever the hell they’re wearing tonight.

  73. avatar Joe says:

    HAHA! Excellent post Strummer!

Since when is Snow such a pu$$y? The guy used to love that stuff when he played, what a joke!

  74. avatar Joe says:

505: I doubt they come on here before game time to check CB’s prediction then lose because their angry. Heck, maybe it should motivate them to prove him wrong or Garth to do something to make the team better.

  75. avatar doc says:

Man am I tired of hearing people talking about Mitch Fritz….

Has anyone even seen this project in live action yet?

It’s almost as bad as hearing people last year asking for the Islanders to bring back Steve Webb… a guy who has been retired for 5 years now.

I am a diehard Islanders fan… but the fans posting on here are embarrasing.

    DOC

  76. avatar jax says:

Doc- Do you like watching soft, boring teams that get manhandled physically every night? People on here want Mitch for protection. Who cares if can play. You act like the 12 forwards on this team can play. And that my friend is what’s embarrassing. Passive agressive fans like you make me sick. I hope KO gets his jaw broken by Orr and then you’ll know why we want Fritz up here.

  77. avatar JOE RVC says:

ALL YOU ISLANDER HATERS …IF YOU FEEL SO STRONGLY AGAINST THE ISLES PUT YOUR $$$ where your mouths are its eazy money right???

  78. avatar Ryan Tendrup says:

Strummer, that made me laugh so hard..

  79. avatar doc says:

Yeah Jax… did you really just say that you hope that Orr breaks KO’s jaw tonight just to prove that the Islanders need Fritz…?

    Are you serious?

And Strummer… you just have way too much time on your hands… Don’t you have a finger painting test tomorrow?

    DOC

  80. avatar Joe says:

DOC, this team is in serious need of toughness, they are soft as hell, gradually more and more of the roster will just end up on the IR. In the long run, not carrying an enforcer will definitely hurt this team.

  81. avatar Joe says:

BTW Doc, maybe Fritz isnt the answer but at least Jackman, who isnt a good fighter but can play a regular shift, would be a start.

  82. avatar Pride-N- Passion NYI Hockey~ says:

    I stand by my views.
This team can only get better as the year goes on.
    (when the Injured heal)…

    How much better??
Realisticly measuring success this year will take some patience.

that last sentence in its own right says it all to me.

I will be satisfied with okposo proving himself at this level if nothing else..

That combined with the feeling that we competed this year!

The same word i repeat in almost every post i leave here…
PLAY WITH PRIDE NEW YORK ISLANDERS!
(a pride knowing your playing nhl hockey)

This is something i understand & agreed with when it comes to the feelings of many who post here on Garth Snow.

what miffs me right now about this gm is his overall approach to a certain Fundamental part of the Game…
    (the physicallity element)

The NHL game becoming noticeably more physical again!!(the Islanders appear to have missed the memo on this or stubbornly ignore it!
(a pattern look they do it injury information wise as well)…

this will not endear them to their media who cover them or the Fans who support them during these tough times..

That said i gotta believe this is another closed door team decision made by Garth & company…
something like this.. hey were “SEVERLY” banged up, our Franchise Goalie appears still not himself and last summers draft picks… Bailey included if you ask me, or still a few years away… so lets just continue with implementing this new system, forget about the toughness for now… this way it will in sure we continue to lose and secure what appears to be one of two big prizes for the NHLs worst team this year…
    (hegman or taveras)

now forgive me for pulling a greg lopgan here… yet based on logic although this organization will NEVER EVER admit to this, does it not seem possible that this is exactly what is happening??

Im just saying??… Things that make you go Hmmmm?

would i do this?…. NO!.. Never!!
I like Most who follow this game have a High Agression , High Competitive nature to the way I approach Life!
(in regards to sports at minimal)

Myabe Garth and Wang see this different, just thought Snow was much more of a competitor when he was on the Ice I hope he gets back to that way when it comes to our being the Smallest Team in the NHL soon!!

    with all that i said
Overall I give a temporary pass on criticing this Gm & the success he is having in regards to the overall devlopment of this team….

In terms of talent chemistry & charecter…(things in my mind that are key to a championship in any sport)
he will need at least this year and probably next year before we can put a grade on Garth Snows tenure as Gm of the NY Islanders..(for Now)

so as for this latest youth movement for this year and next… patience again…
    what else do you do?

go bowling become a fishermen, watch basketball or Nascar…nah NEVER,not me.

Maybe tag along with your wife to the store and shop every day!!;)
boring and to expensive in this current economy.

Me i’d rather Root For The Hockey team I was privileged enough to wintness win 4 Stanley Cups un a row!
( as a very Young Kid)

Even if we are not very Good right now its still the Greatest and Coolest
(as they say) Game on Earth if you ask me..

Now im sure there are some of us who are youinger and do not remember or what not even born when they were winning these Championships…?

what I can say to you is… WOW really Cool that through such miserable times you guys stay loyal to a team that has not played well!

To me That showes Charecter! I thank You for staying in the pit with all the rest of us.. someday you will have your day to celebrate… and Im telling you it will feel FANTASTIC!!

so buck up keep thinking positive even if you know its still a few years away…

just think someday soon especially if the lighthouse deal is finalized this spring.

“WHEN”, not if this happens we will begin a meteorical rise from the out house to the penthouse…
from Chumps to Champs! (This will happen)

Is what im saying a dream…..?
NAH.. Money & Is Power In all Pro Sports these days,
That along with the #1 tv market in the country, a no brainer with an increased profile in the metro area, the lighthouse will bring many things besides more wealth & power to Charles Wang.. It will revive a Hockey Team that has languished for 15+ years!!

Count On That While you wrestle with your feelings about being a NY Islander Fan!
I Believe The light at the end of the tunnel us closer then many of you think!

    Hang in There!!
LETS GO ISLES…. LETS GO ISLANDERS!!!!

Pride? Your father in law owns the Isles, so that hasta be kinda cool. Good luck with your faith and may it never diminish like this die hard who saw Wang ruin my passions and hopes and dreams.

I barely watched the Rag$ game tonight. The team is not the New York Islanders anymore, it’s a joke played by your father in law Mr. Dey/Passion.

Nah, just a real fan,.. one that will never surrender his thoughts & beliefs for the future of this hockey club…

the old addage is if you have nothing good to say, then say nothing at all…

no one forces you to root for the club you do, its a free world if not this then find something your content with!

its easy to be a fan of a team when they are winning ,

the loyalty &charecter as a fan,
come into play when your rooting for a team thats not very good…

the b***hing and moaning is for woman
    and childern!

If you can not deal with the current state of affairs, maybe you do not have a vision of a positive future in regards to this team?
(at the risk of sounding rhetorical)
    I understand compltely.
( at times like 10 years ago felt as you)

So I pondered & then I decided either i face the facts that i can root for this team and wait for a better tomorrow or io can abandon the whole deal… its obvious what i choose and what many of us have..

So it is what it is.. either get in the pit and show some love for at least the team & the Fans of it .. or find a new hobby…

P.S. life is too short to hate the thing you love!
Good luck in whatever you choose peace!
    Lets Go Isles…Lets Go Islanders!!

For the record, love the crest and those who wear it I root for every second but the ones who run and shape and mould the demise of the club (Wang, Snow, Dey, Ricky the de facto team president) and others can take a swim in crocodile infested waters for all I care. The team absolutely needs to get rid of the purposeful incompetence and fan mockery and replace the detriments with competents so we can get a fair shake as fans.

This is worse than Wurtz or Jacobs. Wang is redefining horror ownerships.

But we both will root hard for the players that Snowbrains and Wang makes us root for while Filatov, Mueller and others (Parise?) flourish.
