WITT OUT 3-4 WEEKS; DP, MEYER DAY-TO-DAY
Islanders Provide Injury Updates

by admin on October 27th, 2008 at 7:43 pm

UPDATED WITH VIEWPOINT 7:49 pm, NVMC - The Islanders have just issued a press release with the following injury updates:

Brendan Witt (lower-body injury) is out 3-4 weeks.

Rick DiPietro is out with a “lower-body injury unrelated to his previous injuries” and is “day-to-day pending additional assessment and treatment.”

Freddy Meyer (abdominal injury) is day-to-day.

The release ends, “No further comments related to this issue will be made until further information is available.”

Point Blank View: On the DiPietro injury, the eyewitness accounts of Point Blank readers that DiPietro was injured during the pre-game warmup may prove to be accurate. Those reports were initially shot down by a source.

DiPietro did leave the ice during warmup on Saturday earlier than usual. This means the readers may have been on to something, and that DiPietro may have played the first period with whatever injury he suffered.

Garth Snow and his injury policy can go to hell. Bad goalie. Worse GM.

  2. avatar BringBackNyles says:

Let DP be GM and Garth play goal..can’t be any worse

  3. avatar Chris TMC says:

I am fine as long as Rick is not on the bench and is instead resting up and getting back to 100%. Thankfully, they are doing the right thing with him for a change.

  4. avatar "The Dissillusioned Brian" in VA says:

That has got to be the most confusing injury report. My brain hurts and Snow/DP both suck!

    Tamby sucks too.

  5. avatar 7th Woman says:

I don’t think it’s confusing at all. At least we know how long to wait for Witt.

  6. avatar 13MoreYears says:

I don’t know if we know how long to wait for any of them…it’s a said state of affairs when you can’t even trust a simple injury report. Unfortunately, this is exactly the kind of situation this Mickey Mouse front office has created.

  7. avatar "The Dissillusioned Brian" in VA says:

I agree with 13 on this one… Wasn’t our “overrated prima donna” day to day after the last preseason game we lost 6-0… He missed about 3 weeks after that. I guess he hurt the other knee unrelated to the first knee injury. We should see DP sometime around 2012…

  8. avatar mike says:

i dont get it. why can’t they just say what’s wrong with that overrated crybaby. like it makes a difference if they say groin instead of knee. do the islanders know how ridiculous this whole thing is???
garth snow is a clown. how the hell did Wang make millions, he cant even run a hockey team.

  9. avatar Darren says:

    Whatever, Joey’s playing good!

  10. avatar BringBackNyles says:

Wang made millions through fraud, cut a deal, flipped on Sanjay and avoided jail

  11. avatar The Mick says:

    What a bad team.

  12. avatar MiKe says:

SOmeone should just take DP out back and end it all now. You cannot build a team around him ANYMORE. His career should be over.

  13. avatar DP's Hip says:

    But he has great hair.

Why do you think Wang likes him “accompanying” him to American Idol so much (without either of their wives around)?

  14. avatar BringBackNyles says:

    Somewhere Ted Nolan is laughing

  15. avatar Isles17 says:

one more loss……..one more step closer to tavares. people there is nothing wrong with losing. it will net us a great franchise player. face it, would u rather finish 12th and get an ok player in the draft or finish last or second to last and get tavares or hedman?

  16. avatar islesnyisles23 says:

remember when people in quebec starting wearing lindros jerseys??? i may start to sport a tavares jersey soon!!!!!!!!!

  17. avatar ron says:

    Somewhere Neil Smith is laughing.

  18. avatar BringBackNyles says:

What makes you think we would draft tavares? We will trade the pick for Luongo or draft a goalie when DP retires with an undislosed lower body injury unrelated to the previous lower body injury. Should be some insurance claim garth fills out.

  19. avatar islesnyisles23 says:

somewhere alexei yashin is laughing and counting his money……………….

    I win…but lose at the same time…

Skinner surprised me. Good vision up the ice. First two periods were the best the Islanders’ offense has looked all year. Two close shots, two good Lundqvist saves, then Thompson comes in and fights Voros to stick up for his teammates. That is the first time I have cheered in almost two weeks.

  21. avatar HilbertSnipe says:

oh wow, never mind. Botta, the auto hyperlink rules!

  22. avatar Steve says:

Man, Butch Goring is popping off some nice excuses with the “young team” argument. Was tonight’s team even younger than the Ranger team? There are plenty of kids on the Rangers. But they contribute.

  23. avatar Islander505 says:

Outstanding call CB, you are now 6-1 in your prognostications.
You are a genius among idiots.
You know this team inside and outside, up and down, and we should all be honored to have your peerless talent here.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and make my own prediction.
    You’re gonna be 7-1 after Thursday’s game.
Keep up the great forecasting Chris Botta.

And I look forward to your next
installment of “Islander Dirty Laundry From My Days With The Organization”.
The 1st one was the delightful Sunday “expozay” of the Fishsticks Jersey.

I predict the next one will have something to do with Mike Milbury.

If nothing else, I truly wish you financial and professional success with this blog.
Cuz you’re gonna have a hard time finding a job with an organization with the resume you are creating here.
“Hire me and know that within a year of me leaving your organization, I’ll be airing your dirty laundry and predicting your demise”.

Just my opinion, from two time zones away.

  24. avatar Islanders1984 says:

Whatever, we loss, Im pretty excited on how well Okposo played. He seems to get better every game

  25. avatar IslesFan in Bkny says:

You know what! All those troll got one point right. DP is a big distraction to our team. When was a last time he saved this team? Last time I remember, was a beginning of the last season, New Jersey game… I’m officially fed up with him. Can you imagine how good this team would be tonight with a decent goalie?

  26. avatar BringBackNyles says:

I honstly love this site, I never knew so many isles fans cared this much, and we all are pretty much on the same page…this ownership group which at first we held promise for is as bad as all the rest.

I really have this pit in my stomach for some reason that this team is about to leave the area in the next year or so (once the Lighthouse is killed, in this new economy I can’t see it ever getting started)

The only glimmer of hope I have is that Ratner bullies his Brooklyn project forward, Dolan waives any territory fee to keep the isles in the area as programming and Wang sells to Ratner.

More likely that falls apart, the Nets go to Newark, and the isles are a distant memory.

I am not being a wise a** this is just a feeling that the writing seems to be on the wall.

  27. avatar Joe says:

    Another game, another loss.

    Tavares! Tavares!

  28. avatar Islanders1984 says:

I believe the lighthouse will happen, Its not going to be exactly how wang wants it to be, but it will come true one day. Wang may do crazy things, but I would take him over the milsteins and day of the week. the guy at least puts money into the team

  29. avatar doc says:

    WOW!

How fickle a fan base we have here.

To paraphrase the gereral sentiment I’m reading on this blog:

“…DP is the worst goalie I have ever seen… let’s take him out back and finish it so he doesn’t ruin the rest of my life…”

We would be like 8-0 if only Dubie was here…

    This country is in trouble.

    DOC

  30. avatar islesnyisles23 says:

there is NO DOUBT Dubie would have more points for this team. What am I basing that on? The fact that he has done it time and time again for this team. But when you don’t bow down and suck off Rick like the rest of this organization, you have to go. Garth should go wipe his chin. Some of Rick’s DNA is still there.

  31. avatar BringBackNyles says:

No one is blaming DP I think we are all ticked at ownership for treating DP like he is Brodeur or Roy

  32. avatar Islanders1984 says:

I heard dubie was playing horrible in Russia. So everyone needs to stop the dubie dubie chant everytime dp lets a goal in. Its amazing that some people honestly beleive this team would be better with Dubie as a starter than rick dipietro

  33. avatar toorude says:

let me get this straight – ricky gets hurt in warm ups and plays the first period – risking greater injury, letting in two goals and giving the puck away on one very stupid play? yhy would he do that? Is his ego that big? Is gordon an idiot?

  34. avatar islesnyisles23 says:

ISLANDERS1984………Dubie’s GAA is 2.80 and he is 7-4-1. So you heard wrong. And oh yea, he is in a huge OFFENSIVE league.

  35. avatar rickistrash says:

Hmm Islanders1984….why would fans think dubie is better? Maybe because the isles have better numbers in 06-07 and 07-08 when he was in. Go wear your rick jersey tool.

  36. avatar Islanders1984 says:

I stand corrected. I still would rather have Rick dipietro as our starting goalie than dubie. Dipietro is simply the better goalie.

  37. avatar Islanders1984 says:

lISTEN RICKISTRASH, I agree dipietro has way to much power on this team, but the simple fact is he is our goalie and dubie is not. So dry your eyes, dubie is gone. Support who you have

  38. avatar andy says:

how about DP to Blackhawks for Khabiulin?

  39. avatar 325CPA says:

Chris, great job on XM tonight and the Site in general, unfortunately their are too many self hating I’ll call them non fans who when a team is out manned can not appreciate the effort the team is putting forth. At this point we have to give them 20 games to see what kind of team it will be once all (most) of the injured return. I would rather see us finish last and get Hedman, I’ve heard he is a beast combo Lidstrom & Pronger. It was clear tonight how much the team missed Sutton & Witt in front of the net and in the corners, the team has to have some toughness on the ice in this series.

Great Job on the Third Jersey, it matches the Jerseys the team was selling two years ago (white numerals)
