YOUR CHANCE TO REPORT
Update and Comment on NYI-Panthers here

by admin on October 18th, 2008 at 6:28 pm

6:30 pm - With Point Blank covering the home opener in Bridgeport, we need you to let us and everyone else in need know what’s going on in the Islanders-Panthers game tonight.

By using the Comments space, please update the score, explain the goals, fights and key plays and – we know this will be difficult for many of you – don’t hold back on the Commentary!

In and around the heroics of Trevor Smith, Jesse, Comeau and the rest of the Sound Tigers, we will be able to moderate. This is our way of asking you to keep it PG-13 at worst and under some level of control. So the site doesn’t explode, try to hold each individual post to about 50 words or less (yes, if you think that gentle suggestion was about you, it probably was!)

I’ll do my best to let you know what’s going on in Bridgeport these days. Would appreciate anything you can do to keep me and everyone else updated. Enjoy.

Write your game analysis in Comments. Let’s break a record.

its official…DP IS BACK TONIGHT!!! greg reports on his blog that he will definitely start tonight…LETS GO DP!!

    final score 3-1 isles

  2. avatar IslesFan in Bkny says:

I think if DP gets a better result than last time he was in goal, it’ll be nice.
    Panthers 4:Islanders 1. :(

  3. avatar Shawn33 says:

    Ugly goal….rick was slowww

  4. avatar Shawn33 says:

less than a minute in and down 1-0

  5. avatar admin says:

I’m in Bport and saw the goal posted, 24 seconds in. Can someone please detail what happened on the goal? Thanks…CB

  6. avatar Shawn33 says:

I think rick may have made one save and then the puck went cross ice and he didn’t get over in time.

  7. avatar AZS says:

Panthers ripped a shot from the point which caught the cross bar hard and bounced out to the other side where a quick shot was banged in …Rick didn’t touch the 1st shot and really didn’t look to have much of a chance on the rebound

  8. avatar Shawn33 says:

    Guerin penalty

  9. avatar Shawn33 says:

Yah you’re right, I didn’t get a good enough look at it

  10. avatar Shawn33 says:

killed the penalty well, panthers didn’t really get any major chances

  11. avatar Shawn33 says:

Isles penalty to park for hooking.

  12. avatar Shawn33 says:

    Another good kill

  13. avatar AZS says:

This picture is awful …any sport not in HD is brutal to watch …

  14. avatar Shawn33 says:

too many men penalty for the isles

  15. avatar Shawn33 says:

comrie comes out of the box after serving and gets a breakaway, defensemen gets enough on him to mess up the scoring chance…little scrum afterwards

  16. avatar Shawn33 says:

    Isles PP coming up

  17. avatar Shawn33 says:

pp isn’t the best, decent pressure but no good chances. 1st ends with us down by 1

  18. avatar Ebz says:

Not a lot of spark so far……like to see a better effort this period

    gotta stay outta the box…..

  19. avatar Chris TMC says:

That WAY too many men on the ice penalty was kinda funny, but they fortunately killed it off.

The noncalled slashing on Comries hand was more of a slash than the one that was called on them right afterwards.

BTW- why are we watching stuff on High School sports during our game intermission??? We already dont have a pregame, we arent getting a postgame tonight, and now we arent even getting intermission reports? Jeez.

  20. avatar BooComrie says:

Does Mike Comrie do anything when he doesn’t have the puck?

  21. avatar BooComrie says:

Why isn’t there a pre-game show? Is this temporary or permanent?

  22. avatar Shawn33 says:

    figure eights

  23. avatar 7th Woman says:

Um… at least CJ Papa is doing good tonight!

  24. avatar Ebz says:

we need a new channel…..SNY….do ya hear me???? please????

  25. avatar DubieDubieDoo says:

Dipietro looked a little skittish in the beginning, but settled down nicely. He’s handling the puck a lot which says something about his confidence.

I’m not a believer in conspiracy theories, but I’m starting to think the Dolan’s are trying to piss off Islanders viewership. No pregame show’s. CSPAN on for the first period of the season. Now high school football during the intermission??? C’mon!

  26. avatar BooComrie says:

No pre-game, questionable radio, this is barely a professional team…..if no lighthouse project…..no Islanders in a couple of years

  27. avatar BooComrie says:

What was the CPSAN story, I missed that?

  28. avatar Ebz says:

Gotta be a true die-hard to root for this team……

  29. avatar Ebz says:

    LETS GO BOYS!!!!!!

  30. avatar Jon says:

    1st period action:

Gordon started the game with the 4th line and they were asleep. 1-zip Florida. Park took an offensive zone penalty. Streit was caught deep on an o-zone rush causing Guerin to take a penalty on a Florida odd man rush. Too many men on the ice after they killed the Park penalty. The p-kill looked good and Ricky is sharp.

  31. avatar Shawn33 says:

They can’t seem to get anything going, cant complete more than 1 pass in a row

  32. avatar Shawn33 says:

Big save by Rick on Dvorak

  33. avatar Shawn33 says:

Tamby just rang one off the bar

  34. avatar Chris TMC says:

Tambs hit the post… great try.

  35. avatar Shawn33 says:

Another nice chance for tambellini off a nice passing play but couldn’t bury

  36. avatar JOE RVC says:

RICKY IS BACK!!!!!SOMEBODY PLEASE SCORE FOR US

  37. avatar Shawn33 says:

Panthers were buzzing around the net and Freddy Meyer gets a tripping penalty

  38. avatar Shawn33 says:

    panthers score 2-0

  39. avatar Ebz says:

    FMIV…..bad penalty

  40. avatar Shawn33 says:

Pass from the slot to the far side where stillman is stationed and he buries

  41. avatar Chris TMC says:

    2-0 Panthers. PPG.
Lets go guys, overspeed your butts up there and score a few goals.

  42. avatar 7th Woman says:

why is it as soon as I post on NYIC about waiting for the next goal… he gives one up.

  43. avatar Ebz says:

    2-0 10 mins to go in 2nd

  44. avatar Shawn33 says:

Witt makes a nice play on what looked like a 3 on 1

  45. avatar Chris TMC says:

FMIV is having his first game this season where I would nto call him our best Dman.

  46. avatar Shawn33 says:

    We’re not looking very overspeedy

  47. avatar Ebz says:

    another penalty

  48. avatar Shawn33 says:

    Another Isles penalty coming up

  49. avatar Ryan Tendrup says:

Wow, we must really be fans to watch this sh… Ahem.. Shtuff. We look miserable right now. Gordon needs to rip into our guys during the second intermission.

  50. avatar Shawn33 says:

Yah its bad…I wish at least fritz was playing…A fight would be something to enjoy anyway

  51. avatar Chris TMC says:

We need a couple of goals, not a fight. We arent getting manhandled or pushed around, we are getting outplayed.

  52. avatar Shawn33 says:

Okposo is playin pretty good, just had a very energetic shift there….the more i watch comrie the less I like him

  53. avatar Ebz says:

everybody wants to make the pretty pass……

they have to shoot in close….too many pass in deep

  54. avatar Shawn33 says:

Oh I know its goals we need…but if we’re not gonna get em…give me something to smile about

  55. avatar Shawn33 says:

another 3 on 1 with just Witt back

  56. avatar Ryan Tendrup says:

I agree with Chris. We’re getting totally outplayed.. Definitely need to take some time during the intermission to settle us down.

  57. avatar Shawn33 says:

    Boumeester goes for hooking

  58. avatar Ebz says:

    Hilbert sold that 1!!!!

  59. avatar Ryan Tendrup says:

    “WE’RE LOSING!
    THEY’RE BURYING US ALIVE!”

    “Eddie Shore?”
    “Oh P*** on Eddie Shore..”

    “Old time hockey?”
    “P*** ON OLD TIME HOCKEY!
    YOU’RE BLOWING IT!”

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyKcyBiw5sE

haha This might make us get a little chuckle and settle us down..

  60. avatar Chris TMC says:

    Yeah I hear ya Shawn.

End of the 2nd. DiPi has made like 30 saves already and the Isles defensive play doesnt look nearly as good as it did in all but one of the other games so far this season.

  61. avatar Shawn33 says:

    ahahaa

  62. avatar Ebz says:

Better show some more heart in the 3rd

They musta went out in South Beach last night……not speedy at all

and… the d-men keep getting caught flat-footed for odd man rushes

    and….too many penalties

and…..Tamby has to bury the biscuit

  63. avatar Shawn33 says:

At least the rangers are losing too

  64. avatar Ryan Tendrup says:

Red wings are up 3-2 over the Rangers. :)

  65. avatar Ryan Tendrup says:

C’mon Gordon. WE NEED A GOOD KICK IN THE BEHIND!!!

  66. avatar Angelo says:

Does anyone think the Isles are playing soft because they think DP has their back? I always thought the guys played harder with Dubbie in net because they weren’t as confident in his skills and I think it’s the same with JMac now.

  67. avatar Shawn33 says:

I really hope not, we’re not good enough to slack at all

  68. avatar Shawn33 says:

    nice glove from Ricky there

  69. avatar Shawn33 says:

they look a bit snappier in this period, hopefully someone will bury one soon

  70. avatar Ebz says:

ha! Jaffe just read an I O hd promo… slap in the face

  71. avatar Shawn33 says:

Looked like horton just wanted to fight meyer, meyer wisely left that alone

  72. avatar Ryan Tendrup says:

If anybody deserves more ice time in the next game it’s Bergenheim. He seems like the only one giving an all out effort. Nice hit on Ballard.

  73. avatar Shawn33 says:

Another penalty…Streit, better one to take than the others though

  74. avatar Ebz says:

    4-3 $tranger$

  75. avatar Shawn33 says:

    …damn

  76. avatar Shawn33 says:

Witt just got someone, maybe Horton with a hard hit, they were slow getting up

  77. avatar Ebz says:

    Guerin should have shot there…

  78. avatar Shawn33 says:

yup, too much passing…gotta make simple plays and shoot more

  79. avatar snowmustgonow says:

    this team is bad

  80. avatar 7th Woman says:

HEY CB… HOW ARE THOSE SOUND TIGERS???

  81. avatar Ebz says:

    Ha hahaha

  82. avatar Steve says:

    TAVARES!!!

  83. avatar Ebz says:

    come on….
    not happy with this effort

  84. avatar Shawn33 says:

ahaha soundtigers are winning anyway, up 2-1…Iggulden has both goals….YA

  85. avatar snowmustgonow says:

I just credit Botta for getting off this ship. This team is one of the worst offensive teams I have seen in years.

  86. avatar Chris TMC says:

Way too much passing and second-guessing themselves even when they have the puck and had a decent shot.

    Sigh.

  87. avatar Shawn33 says:

    Shoooot

  88. avatar Rick says:

Thomas Pock has no business being on a NHL roster

  89. avatar The Mick says:

I’m so frustrated by this team. I don’t even know what to say. Shut out by the Panthers. Are you kidding me? Absolutely ridiculous. DiPietro stands on his head and this team can’t even show some heart and score.

  90. avatar Ebz says:

nite all…….I hate goin’ out after we lose….

  91. avatar snowmustgonow says:

With the first overall pick, the New York Islanders select John Tava—–oh wait we have a trade to announce. The Islanders have traded the first overall pick to the Colorado Avalanche for Ryan Smyth.

  92. avatar The Mick says:

This team is not skilled, has no finishers, is not physical, is old and is basically the same team as last year. Come on. I suppose I should just look forward to Tavares or Hedman.

  93. avatar snowmustgonow says:

Pock, Thompson, Hilbert, Nielsen, Tambellini, MacDonald, Hillen – nearly 1/2 of this team is AHL quality

  94. avatar 7th Woman says:

I’m glad I watched this with my girl friends instead of my husband. At least here… we’re still smiling.
Nite all… Chocolate is better than HOCKEY.

  95. avatar Ryan Tendrup says:

We deserved that loss. Outplayed from the drop of the puck. Hopefully a better effort VS Dallas Thursday at home.

  96. avatar The Mick says:

It’s not effort Ryan, it’s freaking skill. This team has none except Okposo how continually passes up shots to setup his teammates.

  97. avatar Mike says:

Is it just me or Mike Comrie absolutly worthless?

  98. avatar beatlebailey says:

what channel was the f’ing game on anyway..chnnel 79 had soccer..was that it?

  99. avatar MikeyMitts says:

Ive never seen so many professional hockey players over skate an fan on that many pucks. This team is scary and the new system is designed for kids in the ontairo leauge. No way is it going to work with guys over 21. Its killing them. They are dead half way through the second.

  100. avatar AZS says:

Reading these comments is just more proof as to why Islander fans are the worst in all of sports. Stop your whinning. You sound like a bunch of b!tches. Just stop watching the team if you don’t like the GM, the system, or any of the other nonsense you all whine about. When they beat Tampa this board was full of people praising things …typical Islander fans …I’m embarrased to tell people I’m an Islander fan sometimes – not because of the team, the coach, or the GM – but because of you all…pathetic …

  101. avatar Chris TMC says:

Competely disagree, Mitts. The “system” is to be fast and create scoring chances. Thats what teams are SUPPOSED to do, there is nothing strange or non-NHL about it.

Not to you soecifically, but whenever this team loses Isles fans freak out about so much more than what it is. The team needs to pass less, shoot more, stop overthinking, and put more pressure on. Thats it, thats the whole answer. Now lets see if they do it.

  102. avatar The Mick says:

Here’s my game comments. DiPietro started out slow but recovered to make over 35 saves, 5 of them great ones, and only gave up 2 goals. The rest of the Islanders did nothing but pass up shot after shot to make the perfect play. Physical play was non-existant, the Islanders took bad penalties because they were either out of position or beaten all night. The Isles couldn’t score on the Power Play and gave up one on the Penalty Kill.

By the way, I see nothing different with Gordon’s so-called system. The team lacks finishers and skilled players thus they will finish in the bottom of the league as far as goal scoring.

Personally, I’m just so frustrated with this organization. The team is the laughingstock of the NHL, lacks a real building, fans don’t show up to the home games, jerks it’s fans around with regard to injury news, can’t entice legitimate players to play here, can’t even make a top 5 draft pick when the pick is staring them in the face, can’t score goals and says that it is going with a youth movement but has a C- grade from THN for its’ organizational depth and dresses one legitimate prospect in Kyle Okposo. I realize that I’m writing this after a 2-0 defeat to Florida, so I’m extremely bitter, but it’s just frustrating.

  103. avatar beatlebailey says:

hey AZS you won’t have to worry long because if the lighthouse project does not go through this team will be out of here…what a f;ing disgrace that i can’t find the F*King game on TV and I live on LI not to mention that the radio broadcast of the game isn’t clear in the coliseum parking lot.WTF is going on!!!!

  104. avatar Chris TMC says:

The Isles fans who think that the Isles are going to finish at the very bottom of the league need to quit dreaming. If (if) Rick is healthy, it can NOT happen. Or do you all forget how many games the Isles would win 1-0, 2-1, etc? Put it out of your minds already because its just not reality.

  105. avatar The Mick says:

Hey AZS, it’s called passion. We want to see this team succeed because we’re emotionally involved rooting for them. That’s why people spend time following them and posting on sites like this. So I can do without your stupid comment about being embarrased to be an Islander fan. You can be embarrased but for other reasons.

  106. avatar AZS says:

“Passion”? No, watching the team – rooting for the team …that’s passion …constantly complaining about everything isn’t “passion” — it’s whinning – there’s a difference

  107. avatar admin says:

Friends: thank you to everyone who posted updates and filled in the blanks while I was at The Bridge. I notice the last few getting nasty. PLEASE no baiting Commenters you disagree with. Everyone can have an opinion. And snowmustgo, that ain’t PG-13. Please. AZS and TMC, you too, please. We can all get along, can’t we? Thank you…CB

  108. avatar JOE RVC says:

i guess the coach cant get these guys moving in the right direction…he isnt getting anything out of these guys ,the veterans or the youngsters.

  109. avatar The Mick says:

That’s what fans do, they watch the games, debate the moves made by the team, cheer when they win and complain when they lose. But you have to be kidding me if you think this organization has been run smoothly. They haven’t won a freaking playoff series since 1993…..1993.

  110. avatar JOE RVC says:

is it to soon to start thinking about cutting the loses with this gut gordon, pull of the bandaid fast instead of peeling it off slow all season long ..bring up the sound tigers coach he knows the players maybe he can jump start this thing

  111. avatar AZS says:

So what you’re saying is that after 5 games you really want to fire the coach? Are you really that stupid?

Ok, lets get into some reality checks here – this team isn’t expected to win this year. We shouldn’t be judging this team on wins/losses – or on the first 5 games. This team is going to be judged on how KO, Tamby, Neilen, Hunter etc. look – are they improving or are they showing they atleast belong?

To think the Islanders – who are 1 game under .500 – should fire their coach after 5 games shows that you’re really missing what’s going on here …

  112. avatar movetheisles says:

So much for an independent blog. How many teams put independent blog links on their team site? Please!!!!!

  113. avatar AZS says:

    The Mick,

I don’t recall saying that I thought things have been run smoothly. Obviously they havent. But, why invest so much time into something ya don’t like? Do I like watching the Isles lose? Ofcourse not! Maybe I’m just a “glass is half full” kind of guy …I like our goalie …I like KO …and I think we’ll draft well this year (hopefully Tavares) …I think out younger guys in the AHL, college, and juniors have potential to help this franchise …I mean if you don’t believe then why bother – there will be no quick fixes with this team …

  114. avatar The Mick says:

    AZS,
I actually agree with your last post. I do like DiPietro and I have seen skill out of Okposo, I’m simply frustrated by this team and organization.

  115. avatar IslesFan in Bkny says:

What can you ask after five games? We weren’t as good as the other night but that’s what should be expected from those guys. You all knew what this season will look like. Didn’t you? CB knew they will loose, I thought so too and many of us didn’t expect much of consistency from those guys in the beginning of the season. We just got DP back; we are getting half of our defense back sooner or later. Hillen suck, Comrie wasn’t good at all. Stars of the game: DP -1 Streit -2, Witt -3. Offence didn’t show up today. :(

  116. avatar Chris TMC says:

I do not believe that any true fan of this team, with full knowledge of specifically who is ON this team right now, would be SO unhappy with the L-W-L-W-L record they have thusfar that they would actually want the coach flippin fired. There is no way that can possibly be a rational, thought-out opinion!

The same people who insited that the Isles would be the worst team in the league are ragingly angry that the team is 2-3-0. It makes no sense at all. You think the team is awful, but you are THIS shocked and angry when they lose a game???

Losing is gonna happen. Im not happy about it either, but jeez- the season is only 5 games in.

  117. avatar AZS says:

    Joe,

I think we are all stupider for having read that last post …I think you should be banned …not just from this site, but from typing in general …

  118. avatar JC Frank says:

Just got to reading, so here are my $.02 on tonight, its becoming a patten, too many dumb penalties and not enough shot taking.

  119. avatar JOE RVC says:

somebody tell me why rebuilding has to be a long term thing ,its not like you have a young qb and he has to learn the system ..please enlighten me …is it out of the question to get a coach with experience and go grab a few good free agents we already have rick and boom were automatic contenders..somewhere tonight ted nolan is laughing we didnt score much last year but we played tough we fought for it we might have been out matched but we werent out hustled there was MUCH MUCH more effort

  120. avatar Spinner9 says:

Its nice to see all the passion but lets try and have some perspective. This is not an overly talented team right now. What you want them to do is compete each night while they develop. How far they go is still to be determined but to act like rats jumping off a sinking ship after five games is obviously the ranting of folks who don’t understand the landscape of sports. Give Gordon time before hanging him (for those opposed to the idea take a look at Al Arbour’s record his first year with the Islanders and his record prior to coming to the Islanders). You need to look at the season in segments. Evaluate the team after a quarter of the season. Gordon is still figuring out who can do what on this squad. If we can hover around .500 for the first half I think things will be going in the right direction. If not, then we may be even further away but I do think for the first time in a long time we have some players in the pipeline that can be the foundation of this team for quite a while, the question is how many of the current Islanders will be part of that movement. If you get apoplectic after each game you can’t ever enjoy the process and be objective in any way. Look, I enjoy winning as much as anyone but you can’t get crazy after one loss. I’ve coached multiple sports on the high school and college level (although not hockey) and you can’t give up on a plan based upon a few contests. Give Gordon the benefit of the doubt, I don’t know why but I have a really good feeling about him.

  121. avatar AZS says:

Reality check – no “good” free agents want to play for us – yet!

I was going to list the realistic ways that this franchise is going to be turned around, but you’re not smart enough to understand …

  122. avatar JOE RVC says:

hey if youre going to go young then you better go tough as in a tough coach like ted or spend the bucks like the rangers and get a renney kind of guy…soft coach and soft players is like having a carvel cone in august

  123. avatar Chris TMC says:

    Great post, Spinner9! :)

  124. avatar Jax says:

    Well said Spinner
