AND TODAY’S RECALL IS…

Jeremy Colliton.
From what I saw and heard in Bridgeport, the kid earned it.
Off to “NY Hockey This Week” on 1050 ESPN Radio from 1:30 – 2:30 pm. We’ll be taking your calls. Have a feeling the Mottau misdemeanor will come up. Talk to you then.
Comments.

I wonder if he will play. you think if the Islanders were the ones to draft Crosby or Malkin, if they would accually be on the team yet. Imagine them stuck in Bridgeport for two or three seasons while the coaching staff says how good they are but they need expiriance and adjusting to a faster NHL. oh ya and I bet they would have good “hockey sence” too
same ol’ same old

Hey Chris,
I don’t know if you used the word “misdemeanor” loosely so pardon me if I read it wrong….but I want to say what my uproar is.
1 – The Isles played like a flat team and deserved to lose
2 – Pock delivers an elbow (not malicious) and gets 5, a game misconduct, and 5 game suspension
3 – Sutter has some not-so-good things to say a few weeks back when Weight delivers a clean hit and knocks out his son
4 – Mottau’s hit on Nielsen, while not intentional or malicious, did not receive the same level of penalty as Pock’s hit. No PP at all after Hunter actually stands up for the “not clean” play. We committ two lousy stick infractions in the 3rd and are down 5 on 3 for a full 2 min. EXCELLENT WORK by Park, Witt and Sutton almost killing that entire 2 min, it took both D to lose their sticks before the Devils could score
5 – Nielsen looks to have seriously injured his leg/knee
6 – Gordon lets the fans (and I think his players) down by not sending Fritz out there to do something…..and I’m not talking about doing something dirty. Just send him out there to fight someone in red, anyone… his post-game comments leave us all wondering if he has a set, seriously…
7 – Sutter now does a total 180 and thinks the hit was clean, meanwhile we all know the hit was far more against the rules than Weight’s hit on his son
8 – The fear that Campbell does nothing and enrages us all even more knowing he always seems to stick it to the Isles whenever he can
9 – Fritz does not play when needed, we might as well have another young player in that could contribute 10 min a night.
10 – Tambellini just plain stinks11 – Did I mention we lost? LOL
ok i’m done ranting now
-
Snow has to send Tambellini down and regain what little credibility he has left.
Nolan is sitting back and laughing at this circus. -
FWIW…
Just watched the game highlights on NHL.com.
Out of character….NHL.com did not show the Hunter/Mottau “scrap”. They usually show all fights in a game and occasionally what leads up to the fight.
Hence….no replay of the hit on Neilsen.Draw your own conclusions.
BTW…Tambellini BLOWS.
Where’s Comeau?
Why is Fritz on this team?
In the last two games we have seen KO speared by Davison and Neilsen butt-ended/elbowed to the head by Mottau.
WHO’S NEXT?
Is it Bailey’s turn tonight? -
why didnt gordon match fritz up with clarkson and rupp. he only did that once and something was brewing but didnt end up happening. same with brookbank
-
505, go to TSN and watch the highlights, you’ll see the play.
Definitely no malicious intent on Mottau’s part, but his hands are up way too high. If he leaves his arms down, it’s a shoulder check that would’ve been delivered cleanly. It’s clearly an accident, but the league has already set a precedent that even accidental contact to the head is unacceptable and will be punihsed accordingly.
-
KP, what about the part where mottau leaves his feet?
-
if he left his hands down and went for the shoulder check he would have missed him.. same thing as the pock hit, 5 games or more, nothing less. JUSTICE FOR FRANS!
-
Great just what we need another guy who can’t score.
-
At least Colliton is offensively minded. Fritz is an enforcer and Gordon dropped the ball by not sending him out to enforce, not retaliate but enforce. The league was quick to act after Pock’s hit, I wonder how quick they will or will not act in this case. I hope Garth protests the hit on Nielsen as well as on Okposo. If nothing is done to either of these, then it sends a message that the Islanders can be pushed around, evenly in a dirty way, and there will be no retaliation by the league.
-
CB, I was at the Rock last night.. I have no idea how that hit on Nielsen wasn’t a 5 minute major. The idiot Devil fans were actually cheering after the replay. That has to be a suspension..
-
I was there too Ryan and I agree completely. Guess the Devils fans are too busy stealing our old goal song and chants to actually watch the hockey game.
-
KP how could you possibly think that was an accident? The guy was getting beat and got his elbow up. May have been a gut reaction but accident? No freaking way man! Nielson blew by their defense numerous times last night in fact he was the best player on the ice with Parise. Mottau just didn’t want to get beat. Understand you have to be objective here but how could you possibly think that was an accident?
-
Devils fans (the few that there are) are not known for being the most knowledgable.
-
Butt ended to the face was no accident… reactionary? yes.
5 games would be appropriate.
Too bad for Neilsen and the team.
The Islanders definitely missed Okposo last night too.
To bring up Colliton is another misguided promotion. There is no doubt that Comeau is being a bit railroaded here. There is absolutely no reason that he should be this far down the depth chart.

What I DON’T want to see as a fan:
Sillinger, Comrie, Fritz, Tambellini.
What I DO want to see:
Okposo, Bailey, Bergenheim, Neilsen, Comeau.
DOC
-
Have to wonder whats going on with that. He was one of the bright spots last year. Like to see Smith or Jossenue get a shot. Kids got some size.
-
Comeau is a wing. Neilsen is a center. We already wasted a call-up in Fritz, so the position of Center has to be filled.
CB-did you get pushed back on 1050 today ? I tried to listen online, and came in at 1:40 to hear college football talk. Wasn’t happy…..
-
I agree DOC. Wow we are agreeing look at that! Sillinger is a team guy but have to give the kids ice time here. Rather watch them develop lose or not, its really irrelavent.
-
Add to the “What I DON’T want to see anymore list”:
POCK
SIM -
If you put Gervais on that list I almost would think you were a brother from another mother!
-
Doc – Hell yeah on Sim. Why is he even on the PP? He can’t stickhandle!
-
CB – Same thing happened to me online, but I know you are on the air because I was in the car for the first 10 minutes of the show. God ESPN sucks.
-
sim set up a scoring chance on the pp. set up park in front…..
-
OK… I got the negative vibes off my chest.
I’m glad we agree on a few things though Matt and Badger and anyone else.
Let’s see what happens tonight.
I think they will be fired up and get a little payback for the debacle earlier this season.

I hope so Buffalo dropped their last 4 its going to be a tough one! Everyone have a good night! Later!
-
I like Jeremy Colliton, glad to see him… I wish it was under better circumstances (like some other player being put on waivers) but regardless of that it will be good to see him play!
-
Kevin – I know, but he’s a grinder, as is Park. Sim seems a little bit too stressed with the puck to be an effective PP player.
-
That was such an intentional and dirty hit. When he realized Nielsen saw him and was going to avoid the hit he readjusted for his head shot. This is pure retaliation for the CLEAN hit on Sutter’s kid. So was when he put out all his fighters at the end of the game to further challenge us and no one stepped up for the pride of the team or for vengance for Hunter and Nielsen.
Collitton many of you will remember essentially made the team out of training camp but then lost his spot to a former Providence Bruin. It is well deserved he has been excellent in the Bridge.
-
i personally like sim.
-
Oh, it amazes me how Capauno uses Fritz on a regular line and with regular shifts in the exact same system in Bridgeport but Gordon can’t see fit to do so. Fritz and his talent isn’t the problem here it is Gordon thinking he is smarter then everyone else.
I hate to hear his comments on everything today, I wonder what kind of further lies he comes up with to cover his bad coaching job last night.
-
Can anyone explain to me what the ref was thinking in handing Hunter (a guy who has had two fights his entire career)a 10 minute misconduct? I understand the instigator rule is there and set but the refs new he was defending a teammate and I have never seen a 10 minute misconduct handed out for something like this.
-
SA…Fritz’s main problem is definately his “talent”
-
Mottau got 2 games
-
I don’t understand how Mottau only got a 2 minute elbow. Hunter’s 10 minute was garbage. I don’t think he deserved an instigator either… maybe a roughing…
-
Mr. Campbell should be relieved of his duties now!!!
-
I knew Colin Campbell would take this opportunity to continue his personal vendetta against the Islanders. 2 games is a freaking joke just like Campbell is. The guy is not qualified, professional, fair, consistent or just and need to be fired!
Other then the fact that Pock is an Islander and Mottau hit an Islander can someone explain how Mottau only got 2 games for a much more deleberate and serious blow to the head?
Anyone know an email address for Gary Bettman so or regular address so we can all write him and voice our complaints about the scum know has COlin Campbell.
For those of you who thought Gordon shouldn’t have gotten justice for the team last night this shows you why players have to police the game themeselves because we aren’t gonna get help from the NHL.
Imagine they dirty ass hit he gives Nielsen. He gets 2 for elbowing, 5 for having the privalege of beating up Trent Hunter sits in the penalty box laughing and smirking knowing he just did what his coach wanted and he only gets two games. What kind of deterant is this.
Snow, Gordon, and Wang won’t even have the BALLS to make a public statement on this being unfair to the Isles once again. Why don’t they hold a press conference with video of all the times COlin Campbell has been unfair to them over the years and demand he be fired? Does anyone in the entire organization have a spine?
I never expect Snow to turn into such a wussy when he stopped playing.
-
how does pock get 5 games for an infraction that clearly wasn’t as bad as mottau’s, who only gets 2 games? no wonder the mainstream media doesn’t take this league seriously. why does colin campbell always seem to have it our for us? i really do think that he enjoys messing with us.
-
2 games is unbelievable……SERENITY NOW, SERENITY NOW!!!!!!!
-
thats laughable. he should of had the same as pock. 5 games.
-
Hey Colin…Go F yourself!!!!
-
He has it out for us because when he was a player with Van our teams dominated them and cost them a Stanley Cup. They also beat the crap out of Colin Campbell many many times.
He also hates us from when he coached the Rangers we helped cost him his job even though our teams weren’t very good.
If you go to youtube you’ll see lots of video of Isles making him look stupid.
Now, while watching the video please notice what a dirty player Colin Campbell was.
We gotta get this scum fired. If any of you NY’er see the guy walking around I think it is open season on his ass.
Botta please do a blog here listing all the bias he has shown to the Isles since he was given his job.
No one can take this game seriously. Instead of hiring talented professionals in their fields they hire guys like Campbell. Oh, the Rangers let Collie go, oh we’ll have to find a job for him, so he can run his persoanl vendattes.

BST18 on Nov 22nd, 2008 15:08:16 said:
“thats laughable. he should of had the same as pock. 5 games.”No BST, he shouldnt. According to the NHL memo, the reason that Polk got 2 and a half times the suspension as the one before was that the penalties were going to keep going UPif this continues. Since it DID continue, he should have gotten MORE than Polk. (And that is even ignoring that this hit was worse!) But now we see the truth- this kind of a hit is a two game suspension… UNLESS youre an Islander- then you get more than double that.
-
Oh wait I just realized it is because Pock has a history as a dirty player. Is that it Colin???
-
Now when Fritz destroys Mottau the next time we play NJ, maybe the league will understand why. Because it is going to happen! Mark Saturday 1/17 on your calendar folks.
-
If you put Fritz vs Mottau in the Colon Calculator…..Fritz 20 game suspension…Mottau 2 minute minor
-
Campbell definitely needs to be relieved as the disciplinarian of the NHL. He claims that he wants to eliminate dirty hits and then suspends players differently for similar infractions. This league is a joke. It is all smoke and mirrors. Isles brass should be up in arms about this hit, especially in light of the Pock hit. Rectum Campbell set a precedent–5 games for a high elbow hit.
-
I could see not sending Fritz out there to fight but if there were no other games this weekend I think Gordo would’ve sent him out there since if Fritz was in there to cause something and then Campbell who clearly doesn’t like the Islanders suspends him the Isles would need to make 2 call ups 4 tonight instead of 1. Message to Sutter **** you, hypocrite
2 games for Mottau is an absolute joke and just proved what i said above. -
Man, I would love to deliever several blows to the head of Colin Campbell!
-
hey Walygz.. just FYI … Devils didn’t steal the Isles Goal song. Rock and Roll Part II” has been their goal song for years up until two seasons ago and was a fan favorite that they took away. Devs decided to bring it back this season once they found out Gary Glitter wasn’t getting any royalites from the song anymore
-
Nobody “stole” RnR as a goal song, it is the most commonly used goal song in the history of goal songs.
-
2 games is a joke.
Campbell has an obvious bias AGAINST the Isles.
Is there a team that reviews his decisions? All I want for XMAS is for this clown to be GASSED at the end of the year.
-
hey colin, u suck. two games and pock gets five? this guy should get fired
-
This isnt the first time we have seen this bias and it wont be the last. As long as the league has a biased a-hole arbitrarily deciding these things, this is what we are going to continue to see.
-
yea mike … you’re right… devils were actually one of the first teams to use the “Hey song” (just google it) They used that zombie nation song last year which wasn’t a fan favorite. Good for them they brought an old tradition back… its too bad the isles got rid of it and now have a rip off of the Rangers goal song
-
2 games is just… I don’t have a word for it. Campbell has something up his but for the Isles and its really, really sad to see. I was ready to defend the coach for not sending Fitz out and recreating Slap Shot but if the league isn’t going to defend the Isles maybe the Isles need to defend themselves. Sad.
-
2 games??
Can’t wait to hear the rationale/justification/excuse for that one. So, what’s the message the league is trying to send again about hits to the head? Forgive me…I’m confused.
Incredible -
If they don’t think Fritz is good enough to play without being a liability, claim Wade Belak off waivers, Better player and just as tough…And he can play 2 positions.
-
damn shawn i was just about to tell everyone. o well. i think they should pick him up. there is no harm.
-
I just re-watched the Neilsen injury… and in my opinion this is my diagnosis – keep in mind of course I don’t have access to MRI films or X-rays or having examined him:
So I could be over-estimating the injury.
Worst case scenario:
* Medial collateral knee sprain/tear.
* Possible fracture to the ankle (tibula/fibula)Neilsen’s skate caught in the ice after the headhunting incident and butt end to the chin, and the ankle folded underneath him – twisting it awkwardly and possibly fracturing the ankle and it put a large torque on the medial collateral ligament of the knee.
Best case scenario:
Sprain/Strain of both the knee and ankle without a significant tear of either the ankle or knee ligaments or any fractures.
Just my opinion.

Wouldn’t it be a good faith move by the Islander’s if they made some sort of announcement or press release regarding the suspension and an injury update.
Can’t they see that the fans are so invested in this team? It would at least give the impression that they are concerned about the lack of adequate suspension of Mottau.
DOC
-
Doc, I haven’t figured out why but the Isles don’t seem to feel they can comment on anything that doesn’t support what the league does. This has been going on for years. It amazes me how tame Snow got since he became GM.
The last place you ever want to go for NYI News is to the New York Islanders. Their website sucks. There are no relevant stories. The pre and post games reports are horrendous. The information on it is the bare basics. They don’t report accurate Ht. & Wt. of their players. A bit ironic since they measure them several times per year. They will often report them on part part of their site as being one set of numbers and on another part something totally different.
I would think by this time Wang and Snow would have gotten on the phone to Bettman and Campbell and cussed them about big time and demand a review of the suspension and a face to face meeting to get to the root of the bias agains the Isls once and for all.
I would then think they would make a case to the media to bring pressure on the NHL.
That is just me.
-
Strummer, I agree. It is getting rediculous.
-
At least Guerin gets it.

Strummer:
