5:15 pm - The Islanders have returned Mitch Fritz to Bridgeport after the enforcer played one shift last night in Atlanta. With Nate Thompson (groin strain) out and Sean Bergenheim in, expect the Islanders to recall a Sound Tiger on an emergency basis for their home game Saturday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
So we ask you, who’s it going to be?
A. Blake Comeau
B. Tim Jackman
C. Mike Iggulden
D. Jeremy Colliton
Based on what we saw and heard in Bridgeport at their Wednesday matinee, we’re going with Tim Jackman. We also wrote last Saturday that he’s worth a look, so we hope to look smart once in a while.
In 12 games with the Sound Tigers this season, the 6-3, 220-pound wing has 6 goals and 35 penalty minutes.

I don’t think Comeau should of ever been sent down. But apparently they saw something in his game that needed to be dealt with in Bport.
This team needs scorers! So I’d ride the hot hand and go with Iggulden. He deserves a shot.

good job by the islanders not having an enforcer in the lineup, the home fans hate seeing a good fight.
Unless Comeau is going to see quality minutes, I think it’s going to be Jackman. Although Iggulden does deserve a shot, but I still think Jackman.

We should bring up Iggy, Right now he’s the best option. I wouldn’t bring up Comeau until we either make a trade or one of our players is going to be out for an extended period of time. To bring Comeay up for a couple of games then send him back down isn’t going to help anyone.
Please no Jackman. This guy is f!#king worthless. Everyone talks about Tambellini, Okposo, and Nielson being bad (which I don’t agree with). Give us somebody we at least want to see. He freaking sucks.
Snow is asleep at the switch. Using Okposo on LW instead of his natural RW position. Comeau buried in the minors. The team is losing AND the kids are not developing.

good to see fritz get sent down. we’re not gunna miss his 41 seconds of ice time. good fighter, entertaining when he fights, but a waste of a roster spot. he has absolutely no hockey skills at all.

Please not Jackman I don’t wanna see Godard destroy the guy. Ignorant SNow could have signed Godard or Laraque or Shelly this summer but he was too busy talking about philisopical differences and the NEW NHL that he is 4 years behind on. Comeu is who should be called up but it was an idiot’s mistake to send Fritz down.
So let me recap this roster move. They said Mitch Fritz down after we all agree the team has faired much better with him. Nate Thompson is out injured. Witt is out injured. Does this not seem like an idiot move?
Tomorrow we play Pitt who the Isles always have very nasty chippy games with. Worse Pitt has Eric Godard who is one of the leagues best fighters. Sutton cannot handle him. Guerin cannot. This is one of those dumb moves.
Who will they call up (I dunno I’d like to think it will be Comeu but it won’t they’ll call up some other career AHL’er and then issue a press statement on how excellent they are).
I’d like to think they made a trade for Milan Lucic but probably not. This team is more likely to make a trade for another tiny d-man who won’t hit, provides no offense, and would never think of clearing the crease. It is very disapointing. I was just seeing them responding to fans with bringing up Fritz. Bergenheim will be in which is good and I’d like to see Comeu.
Gordon said on Newsday he and his dance instructor wife often exchange advice. Makes sense as there are many ballerinas on the ice.
Why is Okposo playing with Park and Hilbert? Does it make sense at all for your top young player to be playing with a career AHL’er? Hilbert should be there, he has no business being on an NHL roster.

These moves are puzzling. Have to wonder if there is a drunk behind the wheel. I’m a fan and have been through thick and thin but what the f!?ck!?!?!?!?! What do they think they are doing, re-inventing the wheel!?!?!? This is a freaking joke. Jackman? The guy is WORTHLESS!!!! Are these guys watching the same games we are. We are playing Godard and the Pens and we send Fritz down? And for the HOOPLE that said thank God we sent Fritz down bcs. he’s worthless we actually have a decent record with him in the line up!!! Your right these moves are puzzling. Snow seems like he doesn’t get it and is so stubborn he wants to prove he knows better then everyone else. He knows what the fans want and he seems to want to prove that he won’t listen to us that he is gonna do whatever he wants to do. WOW, just looked at the schedule for the remainder of the month. Each team has tons of fighters. One of the team is Buffalo who you might remember pushed the Islanders around badly and beat the hell out of them. HHMM maybe Andy Hilbert is gonna start acting as our enforcer too, gotta love all those Providence Bruins and hey, anyone from MA has to be a great guy. Seems like a real plus on the resume at least.
then if hilbert is the enforcer, then hopefully he gets hurt because he sucks.

If you think teams don’t respect us a bit more when that kids dressed you haven’t been watching the same games I have. It’s not all about Fritz anyway. It’s easy to say they have a better grasp of whats going on bcs. they(coaching staff,GM) see more but its becoming more evident that they don’t know sh!?t. If anyone thinks these are sound moves you haven’t seen a decent team on the ice so its not your fault. I don’t mind mind losing, in fact this year I almost encourage it! But this can’t hold leads crap while getting the shit beat out of us is a joke. I’m not saying Fritz is the answer but I am saying Jackman isn’t. I know he’s a callup but lets see a new face bcs. that old one aint working. Either Jackman or Iggulden. Probably Jackman. Comeau should be allowed an extended time in the AHL to develop his offensive game. I know many are in love with him as a player but until he shows some type of offensive ability he will be no more than a hard-working 3rd or 4th liner. Look at his stats last year and during any previous season as a professional.
His stats as compared to anyone on our team?
I vote for Trevor Smith. It will give him a view of the NHL to whet his appetite.

Well would it be an issue if players like tambellini earned more Ice Time then the the 6 to 8 he has been playing… cmon.. stop making fritz the scapegoat as to why this team is struggling… thats garbage..

We are not skilled enough to put the fear of pure speed & ability, thus alleviating the need to dress an imposing enforcer, on any given night…
Quite honestly even if we were if the real hockey people who know the game, are watching with their head,

Then they would probably realize regardless of what actual team we had on the Ice (talent wise).. that about 80%
of the league would still run their enforcer out there.

I agree with you as well. Believe me I would love to see some real hockey too! Unfortunately with players like Hilbert, Comrie(and for those of you that think he is a skilled player you are out of your minds), Gervais, etc. it’s not happening. So whats wrong with a little pushing, shoving, and ole’ time hockey? You think Jackman, or that firecracker Colliton that our GM seems to love so much really have much of a shot to make an impact? I’m sick of the stupid decisions and bad moves that we are forced to bear. We just sit here and talk ourselves into believing these are smart moves. When does this sh!t end and someone from the isles makes a move or decision at least one of us fans agrees with. I feel like a G0d D@mn lemming following this team! Prove us wrong Garth! I dare you!

matt you could not be more wrong. fritz should have gotten more time yesterday and should go out when there enforcer is out which, in case anyone noticed, hasn’t happened except against orr and laraque. against orr, renney pulled him so ranger fans don’t see the beast of the east crush orr at home. as for the whole turning tide against us thing you could not be more wrong. the fight was in the second and early and the only goal after that was after was neilsons and they didn’t score till 7:48 into the third. besides how can the other team get momentum from your heavyweight,who is the best in the league at fighting, getting thrown around like a ragdoll. get off this topic
also, according to logan, orr asks sutton to fight. good for a orr for not fighting an animal and picking on a guy with an injured hand.
I agree with you Kevin they should have gave him minutes! Agree with you man. Just don’t want to see Jackman. Also agree with you on this topic, this is beating a dead horse.
I think Blake will be down a little longer and that Jackman will be brought up to play the “enforcer” role with less beef than Fritz but more all around hockey sense and skills.
i have to admit that i would not mind jackman that much as long as we had another top fighter that way, jackman isn’t our enforcer. he’s a punching bag but then again he is a big body on offense and thats what we need. 15 forwards and only 6 that weigh more than 200 lbs. not that iam aying that we need all fighters and im not saying that being over 200 makes you one but you look at teams like anaheim or san jose who have bbig bodies on offense all around and look at their success.
Jackman would be fine if we still had Fritz hanging out on the bench to take on the big boys, Jackman STINKS at fighting but I guess hes better than nothing. I dislike Garth more and more by the day.

That fight was when the score was 3-1 with about 16 minutes left in the 2nd period. So the isles scored again to go up 4-1 after 2 periods. The Isles then go on to blow a 3 goal 3rd period lead and the Fritz fight turned the game around? Which happend about an hour earlier.???? If you don’t like the guy fine, but at least get with it.
I bet it’s Jackman. It’ll be a 4th line guy he’s replacing and he’ll likely get 3-6min per night. Comeau was sent down to “work on things” and define himself as a player…I doubt they want to yo-yo him between the AHL and NHL. Colliton is likely the next 4th line centre and they may want to give him a look.
I want Comeau on the NHL roster for good, playing 10+ minutes per night. An injury fill-in doesn’t mean Comeau’s getting the call. I’d love for Colliton to get the call-up and stick - I love the way he plays. I believe he’s more valuable in a 4th line checking role, high-energy, good PK - than Tambellini playing 10-15 min a night and not even generating chances.
Why do we want to give more minutes to a guy who can’t skate
This is getting ridiculous. Mitch Fritz does not belong in the NHL. Maybe 5-6 years ago but in today’s game with today’s system he doesn’t belong. We don’t need a guy who will go out there for two shifts a game to fight the other team’s enforcer. We need a guy who can fill a spot by not hurting the team. I see no problem with Tim Jackman up here. So he doesn’t win every fight he’s in. At least he’s a guy who will stand up for his team and be able to play more then 3 minutes. I saw Steve Webb lose a majority of his fights and he was still a fan favorite.
I know who its not going to be Mark Parrish. No I know he was only signed to a tryout but it would have been nice to see him in an Islander jersey again. Isles could have signed him to the $500k 2 way deal the Stars did and could have moved a hihger priced forward such as Comrie to save cap space. Congrats to Mark on a hat trick in his first game back. He could have taught the kids something about standing in front of the net like he did when he was here. Instead we let him slip away. I think he would have fit nicely on a line with Guering and Weight.

I guess you are not seeing my point…I never said they don’t need a guy who will fight, but I don’t want a guy who will play 1 or 2 minutes a game. I want a guy(like Jackman) who will go out there play 8-10 mins a game and not hurt the team in those 8-10 mins. You shouldn’t be going with 3 1/2 lines in this system. You need to be able to roll four lines. Is it mere coincidence how the third period collapses started when Fritz was here and he’s only had 2:25 TOI? Now I’m not blaming Fritz but obviously he doesn’t belong if the coach doesn’t trust him being on the ice. Give me Comeau who has showed us something, if you want toughness, then give me Jackman, who might lose a few fights but won’t hurt the team on the ice and could play 8-10 mins a game

A true top notch enforcer is worth more then most average 4th liners .. especially when he can skate and WIN FIGHTS.. not be a punching bag for the opponent.
