Addressing some of your questions
6:05 pm - Back from Bridgeport, here are my takes on some of your questions over the last two days from the Comments space. I should start by letting you know that Mitch Fritz is still with the Islanders and Sean Bergenheim made the trip to Atlanta today with the team.
mrlblem: Any scouting reports on Dustin Kohn? As a second round pick, shouldn’t he be further along in his development?
A. No, he’s where he should be. Kohn is a solid defense prospect who you can expect to be in Bridgeport for at least this season and probably more.
UIF: I seem to remember hearing a lot about Jesse Joensuu in the offseason. How’s he looked so far?
A. He took a while to get going today, not a surprise because a lot of players have trouble with the 11:00 am start time. He came on strong in the third period and I’ve heard good things from Bridgeport people about his adaption to the North American game and his desire to learn and be a good teammate. He also won fans and friends by decisively winning a fight last week.
I’d be very surprised if you see him with the Islanders anytime soon. He is 3-1-4 in his first 11 games as a North American pro. It will be at least a year or two before he’s pushing for an NHL job, if he progresses at a proper rate.
Don K asked about the Islanders having a Cool Fun 101.
A. The Islanders were one of the first NHL teams to do it, back when we called it Cool School. It was done for an exhibition game. If I remember correctly, one of the reasons it was dropped was because the cost to open the Coliseum and staff it with security, ushers and everything else the arena manager demanded made it cost-prohibitive.
Strummer’s Army asked about Tomas Marchinko.
A. He played on the fourth line today – a very good fourth line, I should add - and was much better than when I saw him in Bridgeport a few weeks ago. He’s a solid two-way player, but if you ever see him with the Islanders, it won’t be in the near future. This is his first year of pro and he has 1 goal and 1 assist in 8 games.
Steve S: What’s the latest on Josh Bailey? Is he close?
A. The team hasn’t said anything since the initial announcement three weeks ago that he was going to be out 2-4 weeks. Bailey has taken part in some practices and morning skates with no-contact. If you define “close” as him playing for the Islanders in the next week, I do not think so. He is not on the trip to Atlanta.
Pride n Passion questioned the inclusion of Bruno Gervais as a Standout last night.
A. Two things: my listings are not 3 Stars, but players not named the official 3 Stars and worthy of some recognition. About Gervais last night, my specific line last night was that if you want to know who the coach thinks is playing well, look at the icetime. Gervais had a team-leading 25 minutes.
Ken asked for my favorite Darius Kasparaitis moments.
A. Of the ones I can talk about, I’ll give you two. When he drove Mario Lemieux nuts in the ’93 playoffs, and when he drove his sports car accidentally in reverse into a light pole in the Coliseum parking lot.
Later tonight we’ll have one last update on Point Blank Night, including a list of some of the raffle items and the “plan” for the evening. Ideas, feedback in Comments, please.

cb – what about your insight to why isles got bumped from consideration for winter classic at yankee stadium against rangers?
-
I am glad to see MacDonald having success. I remember when he was with Detroit he was highly thought of but the Hasek and Osgood situations dragged out and he got out of there. They at one point that MacDonald was their #1 of the future.
-
I wanna know more about the Kaspar stories you can’t talk about
-
Chris I would love to know what you think was the worst move the Islanders made in your tenure. Could be a trade, a signing, a non-signing.
-
also, good to see fritz but i have a question. are the isles interested in mike komiserek. LI boy and a brendan witt type player. and i want to hear toorude’s answer cause i wanna c that happen
-
Point taken CB…
Understood the honorable mentions
that you list as second 3 ..
Just felt Gervais.. was 7 or 8.
not top6.As well felt the indication of leading ice time was only slightly more then streits.
To me possibly more of a ebb& flow of the game then a statement..?
( relating on when & how the changing on the fly goes)
Unless of course it’s Organizational in its implementation!( then it becomes a philosopgical decision more then one attained on meritt, No?
Regardless.. Bruno will sink or swim this year… Right now he’s treading water!
Though, I Repect your opinion, especially if it’s meant to motivate !
he needs it;)Lets Go Isles… Lets Go Islanders!

*philosophical* ice time?
-
cb have we heard anything bout silly.. is he close to returning this weekend?

Why all this hatred towards our announcers? I think people should be happy with what we got…..un-baised guys who have alot of knowledge 4 the game. Like someone stated before, listening to other games on center ice is just painful. Howie is great, albeit a $tranger fan, and Jaffe is a pleasure to listen to. Like Howie said last night “PUT IT IN THE BOOKS!!!”
Now…about that myth….it’s a joke. The $tranger$ fans and beat writers always have something to say, and it’s always got a negative twist towards the Isles. Like stated before, when the Isles were in the playoff in the early 2000’s, the $tranger fans I know were all saying that it “doesn’t matter if u make the playoff’s, it’s all about how far u get.” Now all they say is “make the playoff’s.” It’s a jealousy that comes along with a DYNASTY, something the $tranger$ and their fans will NEVER HAVE!!!!!!! It’s a joke…..and it’s on them…..
How about that game last night? It’s like those MacDonalds commercials
Da DA Dat Dat Da….I’m luvin’ it!
CB, awesome site brother!!!!
Keep up the good work!ps….Mark Parrish got picked up by the Stars

WHAT ABOUT THAT LIGHTHOUSE UPDATE?????WHEN CAN WE EXPECT THAT?
-
Who is our best prospect not on the NHL team? Comeau? Hillen? T. Smith? Katic? Figren?
CB who would you say?
-
Botta:
Did Mike Milbury have an opportunity to trade Roman Hamrlik for Vinny Lecaviler when Vinny and Torts were not getting along and Vinny was only so-so? It was reported for a long time in NY and FL newspapers that the teams were discussing it. -
maybe petrov but personaly islesfan i would think figren. not counting bailey of course. thats point wise. comeau could be a better player and adapt to a team better woth his rugged style of play
-
Islanders1984: I would say ‘someone’ floating a propoganda story about NYI pursuing Jeremy Roenick, which resulted in a full back page picture of him in Newsday and an article on the same.
The chances of it happening were about 99.8% in the “no” column.

hey CB…what about Colliton. This guy has been talked about and has been up the NHL level a few times. Looks like a decent player whno knows the game. What about him?
-
i know colliton has great leadership, good on pk and a good center according to other websites that list him as a 4th line center, potentionally 3rd and 2line pk
-
Does anybody know when petrov will be allowed to come to the NHL
-
petrov prob is one of the best prospects… what is figren supposed to be top 6? whose our best d prospect?
-
figren might be our best prospect ready to make the nhl jump at least. He is in the top swedish league. Which is probably better for his development then the AHL
-
petrov will come here in 2 years if he wants to and figrin will be here in 2 years. our best d prospect is either skinner, hillen, or kohn. figrin is supposed to be top 6
-
botta – who do you think is better right now danis or mannino??thanks…see ya tomorrow night ill have a bunch of 7 and 7s if ya dont mind
-
(dolan’s) newsday.com is telling us the (dolan’s???) forbes’ is telling us that colton orr is nhl’s best fighter. i guess no one from forbes was at msg last night to see how orr was not overly interested in fighting our top dog. they should stick to more financial matters if you ask me. jay greenberg could suggest some outdated topics for them to write about if they have run out of their own garbage.
-
ORR the NHL’s best fighter? Guess they don’t have YOUTUBE and haven’t seen Fritz work him over or Renny keep Orr away from Fritz to not give the Isles momentum. More over if the best fighter has to be Boogard or Laraque. Orr is up there but Lucic is better and he’s only played one season. I could think of at least 8 guys I’d put ahead of Orr who again is a good fighter but I think we all remember Brennan beating him up last preseason.
Petrov could be with the Isles as early as next year. Why? Russia is not honoring NHL contracts. Several NHL guys said they were waiting to see how a few things got handled and then they’d know how to proceed. Russia didn’t honor NHL contracts and basically told them off so that means next year is going to be no-holds barred on contracts and the Isles don’t have to respect the contract Petrov has unless a new deal is worked out.
-
Strummer’s Army: Chris Botta already said here in comments- perhaps even more than once considering how many times people ask it- that story is 100% false. I dont remember in which articles comments though since people bring these kinds of things up randomly all the time.
-
The Isles should give Petrov a king’s ransom next year to come over. He was the second highest rated european skater in this past draft and only fell to the third round because of the contract in Russia. Get that kid over, and with Bailey, Okposo, and hopefully Tavares/Hedman, that’s a real nice young core to go with next year.

ewww yashin. uh good q’s and good a’s
