Certainly, there are players with more skill on the team BUT If all of the Islanders had the same heart and grit as Jon, they would be serious contenders. Jon, all the best to you.

THANK GOD!
A complete waste of a roster spot.
Smart move releasing John Sim.
He was not really good at anything and most nights you would be hard pressed to even name a play he was in on.
Hopefully this means a permanent spot for Blake Comeau.
Young and talented. Fits the criteria that Sim does not.

Larry, is that Penner deal L3 or L4?

JP - you're obviously entitled to think whatever you want about the team, but I felt I needed to make the comment because you're starting to sound like Randy Quaid's character from Major League 2. I'm half expecting you to show up at the Coliseum with your jersey inside out and the words "SNOW JOB" written over the back of the logo in black Sharpie.

I'm in total agreement with you that I want this team to win the Cup, and to answer your question it would be the first Cup I'd get to see. This year is not nearly as bad as the worst we've seen with this team - at least we have stable ownership and a stable pipeline for developing young players. We might not see it at the NHL level yet for various reasons, but the play of our prospects in Utah and Bridgeport are cause for excitement. Things are looking up - Comeau came back with a fire I never saw from him last year, and I think this move with Sim means they want Comeau to stay. I'm also with 505 - let's give Gordon a full season before judging him. He's clearly not an idiot without the team's support, unlike a certain coach with a certain famous hairstyle whose players begged ownership to fire him. I'm not 100% sold on him as a coach, but he deserves better than to constantly accuse him of losing the team because he didn't want to risk a big suspension for Fritz and himself 18 games into the season. I hope Mottau will get his later; revenge is a dish best served cold.

Once they break ground on the renovated Coliseum and we get some more prospects into the fold after the 09 draft, there could really be something happening here. I think management finally gets that we don't want to be sold a bill of goods every year so the team can sneak into the 8th spot and exit the playoffs 4-5 games later.

True, if he were 4 inches taller and 30lbs heavier it would be nice, but then he'd be Bill Guerin and making 5 millon dollars more per year. He's a real good player for a cheap price. This move is premature and just plain wrong imo.

I would like sim on the team if he was 4 inches bigger and 30 lbs heavier. He is just too small and ineffective because of his size!

Come on guys. Sim scored 5 goals with minimal playing time. They’re losing game after game and it’s clearly not his fault what so ever. The Isles need more gritty players like him, and Mr. Gordon and company should realize they are totally off base on this one. Montreal would never play so many young studs without good solid vets to school and protect them.

OK, Sim was guilty of many gaffs this season and Sim isn't going to protect any one.

Penner has a ton of potential so I migh tdo the deal just to be rid of Comrie and Tambs (a fresh start) but Comrie could put up 43 on his own. Penner gives size and toughness so the wild card is Tambelleni. Why should we get a pick as well? Penner signed a big fat offer sheet while Comrie and Tambs have cap friendly deals thus it is probably right to ask for a pick.
