JACKMAN, COLLITON BACK TO THE BRIDGE
Sillinger officially returns to the NYI roster
5:15 pm - The Islanders have just announced the following:
Mike Sillinger has been recalled from Bridgeport following his three-game conditioning stint.
Tim Jackman and Jeremy Colliton were reassigned to Bridgeport following the Islanders’ 4-2 victory over Ottawa nearly 48 hours ago.
Should the roster hold until their next game, Thursday night in Washington, it would not be difficult to make the argument the Islanders are not fielding the best lineup possible.
What do you think? Comments.

Terrible moves. JACKMAN is better than 4 others on that team. JACKMAN, unless cut bad, deserves to play. Even if he can;t fight. He will get there. Tambellini must go, enough is enough already.

assuming that Okposo can make it back by Thursday, sounds good to me…
-
So it seems that Kyle is ready for thursday…
-
what do i think?
i think tambellinni is stealing -
i thought botta said ‘not yet’
-
(okposo)
-
Pock has cleared Waivers
-
No Jackman and No Fritz? That seems like a weak lineup to me. Better to dress Fritzie and bench Tambellini instead. Whether its Fritzie or Jackman, they need some muscle in the lineup.
-
Jackman has been one of the better players on this team. This is a joke.
Send down that Zero Tambo!! Who cares if we lose him for nothing!!
-
jethro, is tht u on hokceybuzz.
-
I’m guessing Okposo joins Sillinger back in the line up. Other move I would do is get Fritz or Jackman back up in Tambellini’ spot.
-
Snow – blunder and Gordon must gooooo ! play the ice-girls
-
ugh, get tamby OUT OF HERE!!!
-
What is going to happen to Pock?
-
“Should the roster hold until their next game, Thursday night in Washington, it would not be difficult to make the argument the Islanders are not fielding the best lineup possible.”
Care to elaborate CB?
I think you could sat that for the better part of the season if you wanted to.
-
Is it my understanding that Pock will just have to deal with playing for Bridgeport…it’s not like anyone wants him. Think he can benefit from some more AHL level experience because he isn’t ready for primetime. And as far as Tambellini goes, he will never be ready for the NHL and has been given more than enough chances already. His play is atrocious and he just doesn’t seem motivated when he’s on the ice. Yet game after game he is on the roster…I just don’t get it…are we all missing something here?
-
Tamby needs to go!
I’m not sure if its been attempted before, but they should put him on Sillingers wing, if he still doesn’t produce, OFF WITH HIS HEAD! (jk lol, but yeah, something needs to be done!)
Bring up Fritz! With Jackman sent down, whose going to protect this team if anything? Witt? Hunter? Sutton? Bergy? Our team is as soft as…
-
If I’m Jackman, I would be really disappointed. I have done everything the organization has asked of me, and this is the thanks I get?
-
Sign Mike Haley out of Bridge when he is recovered DONE !
-
This doesn’t mean either of them can’t /won’t be recalled for Thursday’s game. They probably saw it as an opportunity to get them an extra game in at the Bridge.
-
I think that what CB is trying to say is that he feels that there are players on the AHL roster (at this moment in time) that would help the Islanders win, more-so than certain players currently listed on the Islanders roster. To be as blunt about it, Botta means Jackman should be playing over Tambellini. Jackman has skated hard, worked hard, fought hard, and hit hard, and he has even put a goal in the back of the net and made things happen. Tambellini, on the other hand, is still struggling to find his niche on Long Island.
I hope that Gordon, Snow, and Tambellini can come to the agreement that Tambellini needs to take a two-week stint in the AHL to prove his value and gain some confidence. While he is there, give Jackman some time, even Iggulden or Smith, and see how those players pan out. When Tambellini gets back, give him a handful of games to see if anything has changed. If not, then it is time to send him through waivers and demote him.
I am a huge advocate of giving Tambellini even more time than he has had, but even my patience is growing the slightest bit thin. If a player deserves a roster spot more than the next, than the right choice needs to be made.
-
I am sick of hearing the bring up Mitch Fritz nonsense. The guy cannot skate, he cannot work, and he cannot contribute to this system in the NHL. Granted, he is an excellent fighter, but I would much rather see Jackman and Thompson on the NHL line-up and fighting than see a one minute player in Fritz. At least Thompson and Jackman put pucks in the back of the net.
-
Bruno will probably be dressed as a 7th D-man if Okposo is still out.
-
If Bruno is 7th dman, we’re not really rolling out 4 lines, so no overspeed
You never know, someone might get called up, its only Monday…
-
I wouldn’t doubt if you see Fritz called back up for the next game and that is why they sent 2 guys down. Crazy though, the few dollars that they save by sending guys down and messing with the line-up constantly, just doesn’t seem to be worth it, but then again, I don’t pay the bills!
-
Sign Haley he was the best player in training camp give him a shot…
-
This does not mean that Jackman will not be playing on Thursday. It would not surprise me at all if this was just to get them in a game this week before then. Settle down.
-
G.Howatt, you’ve already said that here… repeating yourself here won’t help him get signed… I’m not trolling, I’m just saying
-
what …jackman the guy whose head got smashed into the glass took 20 stitches and still tried to f up a briun ..that jackman??
-
It is nonsense that Jackman got sent down. They are playing Donald Brashear and John Erksine Thursday, Fritzy really should be in for that game but who knows. If we dont have a tough guy dressed, I hope they run every single guy on the ice, teach these morons a lesson.
-
I wasn’t sold on Jackman until recently… when he bowled over that d-man and got the shorthanded opportunity. I just don’t know if he can play out of his mind like that game in, game out.
Am I the only one not willing to give up on Tamby just yet?
-
I am very disappointed that Tim Jackman was sent back down… he really deserves to be up with the Islanders.
-
Read between the lines. CB has stated numerous times over the last week that he believes Tambellini should be out of the lineup, if not cut. That is what he’s referring to.

sutton-meyerIn a perfect world sim would be a scratch, but they won’t do that.
I would rather have his spot for a young guy. He does nothing and Tambellini either trade him ( probably no takers on that one) or end him down to bridge. i know we risk him to waivers but i dont care anymore. i think comeau is wayyyy more deserving than tambs. -
how can you reward guys that suck and punish guys playing like it were their last game???gordon is such a weird dude he has no clue hes so inconsistent he got lucky with joey mac ,if he wasnt playing out of his mind we would be so screwed
-
snow got jmac not gordon….and who are they rewarding? sillinger is a vet that had a vital role when he was here. how does he suck
-
kevin_proves my poiny gordon got lucky…also im not saying sill isnt good but jackman has proved he should stay what else can the guy do hes playing so hard ,fighting ,sticking up for his team!!!
-
i agree that tambs should be sent down for 2 weeks…we keep waiting because he was a great prospect only like 3 years ago and was great in AHL last year…were just scared about getting rid of prospects…aka mad mike…jackman i hope will come back up if okposo isnt ready by thursday…but sillinger deserves (and we need him) in this lineup…colliton also looks promising…now maybe his confidence is up a little and he could work on offensive (only one assist in 5 games)…comeau is hopefully adjusting better to gordons system (wich rocks…and comeau is 17-4-13-17 down in bridgeport)…trevor smith also looks awesome…i think all in all..u new collition was only here short term…fritz doesnt even deserve to be in the AHL…and wen we get rid of tambellini we will make that great 4th line of jackman-park-sim (who does morethen u think…he sticks up for teammates and is a little sean avery)…keep it up joey…lets win on thurs!!
-
Mike from Queens:
I too am not ready to give up on Tambellini, although, admitedly, its getting harder to keep that stance. I thought he skated hard the last game but still very little contribution from him. Two guys sent down and Sillinger activated, maybe Okposo is ready or otherwise hopefully they bring Jackman back. If I never see Fritz “skate” again I’m fine with that.
-
im more then fine with that…but i dont think ive actually seen fritz skate…he sucks…he has 1 goal last year for the AHL…and he can box go do that sport…jackman can actually play and is working his ass off…ill give tambellini the next week b4 hes in bridge port…also wuts up with martinek and gervais …there always getting injured cause there to skinny…r they reinjured…and wtf r we gonna do wen comrie comes back (Trade him!!!!!) i wish
-
bruno stinks he never does anything he gets a free pass..tamby will not make it hes been around for 3 years now..cut these 2 guys loose.. keep jackman up jackman is tough and were soft we need him here
-
i agree…we just dont want to make the same mistakes as milbury and get rid of prospects too early…(jokinen, luongo, redden, torres, connolly, etc.)
-
If Tambellini is here on Thursday. . and a guy who busts his ass every shift and actually contributes something to the team – Tim Jackman is not – there really can be no suitable explanation.
Reserving judgement til Thursday.
-
Jackman is an excellent 3/4th liner. Tough, Hits, and can score. He is a good player. I wish he could play 82 games with the Islanders.
-
Brian,
If you could spell half as well as Fritz ates you’d be writing for the Times…albeit High Times…but the Times just as well.
Anyway… can’t we just be happy that Silly is back. He may not turn the ship around, but that means that he is healthy enough to play. Congrats to him. That’s one for the good guys.
Jack “needs some time to heal” man. I’m pretty sure he’s gonna have a spot on this roster once some moves are made.
I’d bet Jim’s lineup is pretty accurate, with Okposo… If it’s fritz, and let’s hope it is, then Thumbellini’s clock strikes midnight when KO cometh back.
Also, let’s hear it for JMac.. if it was THE NEXT RICHARD BRODEUR this board would be all over it. JMac has played his arse off, and has DEFINITELY been the best player on the ice for most of the last 14 games.
Nice job Snowy… but you didn’t have to do Dubie like you did… -
jackman should be here and tambellini should be gone…it is so obvious as to be ridiculous..this one is all about contracts period….get rid of tambellini and get jackman back up here. He can take a punch! He can’t fight but sure does give a great effort.
-
Guys, no matter how we feel about Tamby I don’t think Garth wants to do anything yet if he can help it. Jeff is his baby, he made noise about him getting his chance. I just think he probably feels he HAS to give it as long as humanly possible. Even just so that he can’t be compared to Milbury. Personally I hope he gives in soon (a couple weeks) about sending him for the reconditioning. Just the change of scenery might be helpful to Tambs. A little break from the spotlight and the PRESSURE. Sound reasonable?
-
wait jpinva…do actually like fritz or not??…and macdonald is amazing considering our injuries especially on dfense
-
Trade Tamby to the Yotes for Brian Mcgrattan.
-
id like that trade but we would need a little more in return. on a different team i am sure he would do very well. alos he is an ahl all-star mccgratton is a beast and i would welcome that trade if we got a draft pick too. i like fritz but i want someone that can play full-time. i wish they gave him the chance cuz he can really drop em’
-
im talking about ppl not the gloves =)
-
I think fritz should be on the team. At first I thought that they should use him in divisional games, or where they’ve had problems in teh past. But now it’s obvious to everybody except Snow and Gordon that the team is getting steamrolled without him.
He needs to be on the team, and have a regular shift… 4-7 mins.
Would that mean he is -12 in his first month… well… Was Gervais any better?
Maybe Gordon was spoiled having guys like Lucic at Providence… these are teh Islanders, either you’re a mediocre skater, or you’re a mediocre enforcer type guy… But when you get a premium thrower like fritz.. heck, USE HIM.
He’s not a kid, and he hasn’t been on an NHL roster before, so maybe there are some things we don’t know about… but it didn’t look like he was wetting himself in the brief, uneventful shifts he has had. Let him play. If he sucks, it’s not like we’ll notice anyway! -
Man… we’ll be lucky to get a puck (let alone a bag of pucks) for Tamby… I’m just saying
Jackman HAS to be up for the Washington game! He earned his spot on the roster a lot more than some others. He has done everything this team has asked of him… maybe win a fight… but regardless.
GO ISLES
-
I sincerely hope Jackman is back up. I wasn’t huge on him last year, but he’s showed a great deal of improvement. I think that is key…what improvement has Tambellini shown, even with the assurance of having a 2-yr one-way deal? Jackman has earned the right to be up here. I even like the way Colliton is playing.
-
This will be a long Post, yet please Islander fans of all opinions, read it and just think about it… its relevant & addresses the feuds we seem to have, while addressing Facts & Fictions of this season and those who view and comment on them!
We are all Islander Fans, To be in tune with one another would make us even stronger!
thank You I think it will be a decent read for the core fans!
Lets Go Isles… lets Go Islanders!! -
I’m Going to try in a sensible & Intelligent manor, to explain to Justin Marques why he should stick to being a fan of the club , instead of a Gm/coach/media personality……
( I mean this respectively & not looking for a Argument)
First & Prehaps foremost….
Jeff Tambellini has been given more then enough time to show his worth at the NHL. level…. His stats are miserable, in a system mind you, that’s very condusive to his style of play?
That said he has 0 Goals in 20+ Games! As for Adressing Fritz lets get the facts straight justin you say he can not skate or score..?
Fair enough though please reserve your can not skate comment , he gets 45 seconds to 1 minute a game right now…
Your telling me you can judge during that time that he can not keep up with the fellow 4th line enforcers of the league??C’mon now, one Gordon has little room to make sure he skates against the imposing enforcers on the 4th line…
I mean if special teams are seeing alot of Ice Time… its very un-likely Fritz and his 45 seconds can be used appropiately . (so as to make a decision if he can handle a 4th line shift)Can not even judge in practice if hes good enough, simply because we have no other Enforcer..
Plus your nmot looking for an enforcer to Score but one or two a season…
(fritz could easily keep up with tambellin’s pace)As for another philosophical flaw in your bashing of the Enforcer role marques.. I submit to you & all the Others who are fans and watch this game this….
The NHL for 1000th time this season are you folks watching or do you just like being obstinent?
Their playing an extremly Agressive , fast paced skating game, yes agreed.
yet heres the reality check to the Justins of the world
The NHL Game has also seen the return of physicallity & pugulism. So much so that its more comparable now to the mid 90′s stats wise (fighting majors) (Misconducts)
then at anytime since the year 2000!
(If The eliminate or adjusted the Instigator rule, which eventually they may.. you would see more fights , yet i betcha less injuries to star players.. not a s many cheap shots running over the golaies or checking from behind on those Icings !You think this is an exaggeration research it, since you have so much time to even tell us what Botta means when he is commenting his opinion!
One More Point on Botta… Hes a pretty level headed even keel kinda guy, one who gives the benefit of the doubt more often then many…
In regard’s to development chances & strategies when he comments on the day to day operations of this Hockey Club…
He’s Got more patience then me in terms of drinking the Kool- Aid!
(part of that is due to his professionalism in the field he workes, I’m not patronizing him , and he knowes this.. yet whaty im saying is stop trying to read his read and decipher this for us… Botta is more then capable of explaining his own theories & thougfhts.. he does not need us too help him!Bottom Line, If Botta tells us He believes that the Tambellini situation is in need of being addressed..
(when the liberals cast you out….Jeff baby, its time to go! lol
agreed with botta 100%Justin How can you brutally dismiss Fritz & his role in a league that is playing & catering to his specialities right now?
As well with such disregard.. have you ever played Hockey? and played it in North America… ie. High School, College, Minor league… Cup Of Coffee & all

\GIve the Tough Guys a Break we are about the only grou[p of fans right now in the league that have 40% or so crying like girls.. they are here, they are Back, and they are not going anywhere in this current hockey culture or economy…;)How can you say Tambellini should recieve more patience or Respect right now Then Fritz?? (thats pure poppy cock my boy)
Or tell us Hes Not a waste of Ice time?
How do you justify his average of 9 to 15 minutes of Ice Time just about every single game with NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT?I mean look at the roosters you want to call up the Smith’s igguldens.. so then who stands up for them when the league realizes,
hey our 4th line can physically slow down the game & dominate theres…(isles)
just force jackman or Thompson to fight one of our big boys.. we gain momentum & take one of their higher skilled players off the Ice for 5 mins… Yes that right higher skilled when comparing them to who will be handing them their collective heads… I’m sure most of us get that!!The Refs are letting this happen… they expect the teams to have an answer for a physically imposing hard checking matchup’s on a nightly basis..
The NY Islanders are The softest in The League in both Implementation of the facts at hand& Philosophical attention paid to it!
You want to try and matchup with the caps this thursday…
lets see… Hmmm, i think if all cylinders are firing in Gordons overspeed system we can stay close for a couple of periods.
Though if we have no answer to a line up that will include erskine & brashear both hitting and harrassing if not dropping the gloves… then expect to be worn down on the ice & the scoreboard just like we were in Boston.. They are very similiar teams.. both with High end Youth & Vet Talent as well as a pension to play the game in a nasty fashion…
They will beat you in a skill game or a physical game…
Now if by chance they do not usde this approach..It does not prove the writing on the wall,
(Enforcer is needed Full time in this League)…Is in-correct when we speak of the Physical game that is back with avengence in this league…
Nah, thats not it.
Its just another Organization/Team in this league saying,
“let the big boys rest tonight, we dont need the Heaveys tonight against this soft Ny Islander team, we can beat them with out even being physically imposing, just go hard at them they can not handle our size or strength!Just seems to be The Islanders are always late on the memo of how the league is playing, and always behind the curve…
get with it LI brass c’mon now.… either way soundes weak to me.
because if they are dealing with us in this manor, then they have already “qued” up their second string goalie & sent there scout’s ahead to look at the real threats in the conference, and thats crummy to know if your a NY Islander Owner,GM, Coach, Player, Media Member/Fan!
Thats the Message we send to our Opponents right now, and that just maybe their philospohical repsonse to us!
Its Weak if you ask me!
God, can only imagine what Gillies, Nystrom, Howatt, Vukota, Baumgartner, Curran, Cairns, Pilon, Etc… are thinking deep down inside as they watch how we have answered some of the top clubs challenges??We Can Still Change This Garth Snow The power lies with you!
Coach Gordon appears as a decent coach.. just needs a little more of a spine so to speak..
Lets Go Isles. Lets Go Islanders!!The Islanders have shown in a skill game they can hang in there.. Kudos to Gordon on that &Snow…
Now The contradiction or Bad part….
They have also shown, they dissapear like a Ghost in the night when they are face to face with a team that wants to,
(& the NHL allowes) To Play a Physical smash Mouth Game!Which in the end marques, allowes one ray of false hope….
That Being The Islanders Hang Around the 6th 7th 0r 8th seed . maybe they even find a way to crawl in the playoffs.. against either the 1st 2nd or 3rd seed?
Well guess what that means as of today,
The Rangers The Bruins Or The Caps await them…Result…?
same that has happened for years now with The Islander Organization a 1st round elimination….
I say this because quite Frankly we are too good to be in the running for the top 3 picks .. theres like 6 solid teams that are below us talent wise right now…So whats it gonna be Snow.. another dissapointment & NO High Draft Pick.. or a committment to fight fire with fire & do the neccessary things to make us competitive in a well rounded way instead of a partial half assed way?
This year to me is ironic (thus far) not because of the lack of speed thing, no have gotten the memo here.
(they are Trying)
Hence the Rebuilding Statement thats been pounded into our heads…(Funny Thing This Team Is a Tough Fourth Line away from being a playoff team) NO DOUBT!
Yet stubbornly they have (managment wise) not recieved or choosen not to acknowledge (the memo) that is so evident to even the casual fan of this league, let alone to the top brass of the other NHL clubs we are competing against…
(watch how tough it gets to play against Burkes soon to be Dirty Maple Leafs , Once again)
The Last point To all of The Fellow Islander fans the lovers , the Haters , the Arguers, the sly & the sneaky, The Euro Fans, The North American fans, the transplants, etc…
Yes I know in the End we are all Islanders Fans agreed!
with that said remember this
One last Time Fella’s….The league will play a tougher game to go along with the skill aspect as well…
ITs goung to take a Physical Blend as well as a Skill game to Win the Cup This YearTHE NHL IS PLAYING A COMPLETE GAME!
(at the very minimal the teams on top sure as hell are in our conference)Everyone mentioned before, Bruins, Rags, Caps, has a team of skill speed , Power with muscle.. we would lose every one of those series.. becuase they would physically wear us down..
the Minnesots Nashville game last night featured * count them 8 fights.. wake up Justin Tune in and be real… with out a remedy to this smurfy team of fowards up front
(the Vets Guerin & Weight or doing GREAT)
Bergenheim, Hunter, bailey,Nielsen, Sillinger, ,Hilbert, (yes Hilbert mentioned a month ago has earned his spot with this team)
To an extent you can Include Jackman & Thompsoin , with park as the 4th line for now.. yet you wanna be up there with the bruins caps & Rags etc’s then even here will need to be up graded.
although I respect the Parks, The Thompsons, Jackmans, of this team I do think there is room for debate & upgrade.. (when the chance arrives…
hey its there call in the end, either we linger around the playoff pic with not much more then a parayer of advancing or we tank it late in the season becasue we were close, yet snow says ahhh… the difference between 8th & 13 th is only 6 to 8 points,… screw it lets trade the vets and see if we can lose a few….
I hope thats not the apporoach, yet if This club is truelly about changing the culture then how about choosing a way to improve the club in the here & Now undertsnading that the talent on this team is niot quite Boston Rags, Or Caps Or Pens… yet its beeter then laying down and hoping that along with 14 other teams right now… that maybe we can aspire to suck bad enough that we get real lucky…. Nah the UIslanders are nmot a Lucky team… dont count on that .
Count on the Hard working team , that needs some help from upstairs right now..
both Philosophicalli & Idealogically..Give Them a Chance To make it to & get out of the first round this year & instead of taking the cop -out by calling it a rebuilding year… its puzzling to me, because right now , we are neither!
Though in my humble opinon one or two well planned & implemented decisions by our Gm/ownership could put us right in the mix for a playoff seed with a hope to upset a first tround team, instead of being swept away like a cheap soft pretending club…
In A Legaue where there are 14 teams fighting for the playoffs & The Top draft Pick , 7 teams who look like they can win a few rounds one night & be upset in a 7th game early round playoffs the next,
In a league that leaves 9 more teams 5 of which will come nowhere close to even making the playoofs… which leaves 4 solid clubs who can win it all
Detroit, San Jose, Boston, Puttsburgh, maybe even Washington?that leaves us whjere, I’ll tell ya where where the Orgainzations wants to finish it up to them we are better then the worst yet a touch below the 6th to 8th seed in a league that features parity for at least a round or two in this years playoffs.. so then,
Why not us, Why Not Now!Start, getting rid of tambellini!…
continue by keeping Soft Meaningless Bruno in The pressbox injury … or whatever..Increase the size& strength, in what would be two extra positions on the depth chart if nothing else!
The NY Islanders I’m Proud to say, Have accredited themselves better thus far then many so called experts have
If Only Some Of Our Fans.. & Much More Importantly, our Hockey Brass In Uniondale& Plainview Realize the little changes that can still be made.
Which in my opinion would go along away in having Our Hockey Engine run on the Proverbial all cylinders mode!
there are many differnt spins to a season with so much uncertainty & Parity.a first round upset for a team that say finishes 6 to 8 games over 500 … and plays a third place team like Washington with Theodore in net?Its Possible as a sixt seed.. dont let them fool ya, it depends on what Gm has the skill & where with all to get it!
Garth Snow show us what your really worth instead of fighting it out with 14 teams in hopes of getting a top 5 player…
WEAK!!Wake up & Tune In Tambellini is Not The Answer,
P.S. many problems in terms of building a viable team can compete & win in the near future?
this will be answered if the Shovel goes in the ground this summer?
If you want to Help yourselves NY Islanders Find away to be relevant this spring and the shovel goes in the ground!
C’mon Garth Your a Competitor show us what your worth!
lets go Isles… Lets Go Islanders!
Good night all! -
If Tambellini is going to get one more chance (which it looks like he is), I would like to see him get that chance playing with Baily and KO. I think that maybe ice time is not enough. At least recently, he’s been playing mainly on agitator lines, and that’s just not his game. Its true that he hasn’t shown that he deserves a spot on one of the top lines, but I will give him the benefit of the doubt and think that he would produce more with more skilled, offense-minded linemates. Of course, if he proves me wrong, I can no longer give him the benefit of the doubt…
-
CB, I hope you’re not charged “over limit” fees.
Is PnP really 19 from the Newsday Blog… -
I marvel at the people who want ot get rid of Tambellini because he’s soft. It’s almost as if every player in the NHL needs to be a hard-nosed tough guy. I got news for everyone – there are PLENTY of soft players in the NHL, some of whom are actually very good. Names like Marty St. Louis come to mind – guys who are undersized and flat out weak, but get the job done in other ways. I’m not saying Tambellini is anywhere near the caliber of St Louis, but he doesn’t have to play someone else’s game or change the way he plays in order to have success. If he plays his game right, he’ll be fine. Unfortunately to this point, it hasn’t happened…
-
so then why mention that comparison… that was like whoah, left field, let alone left wing…
Why would insult the Hockey Hard core community be comparing Martin St. Louis, with Jeff Tambellini..
Thats insane? -
Jeez, PnP! Calm down! And by the way, you’re wrong on one thing. Obviously, we can judge Fritz’s skating ability based on his games at Bridgeport – one doens’t become a faster skater or a better athlete at the NHL level. If he can’t do it at the bridge, it aint happening on the Island. Of course conversely, Tambellini is one of the most prolific scorers in AHL history, and that hasn’t translated to the NHL yet…
-
I’m sorry if you feel I’ve “insulted the hockey community” by making a simple point that Tambellini can be a soft player and still excel at the NHL level. Again, there are many players who have done it. Do I need to write a novel to get that point across?
-
What would everyone have to say if Tambs went on a 6 or 7 game point streak? I know, he’s still looking for his game.. But obviously the franchise/coach sees something in him.. And to be honest, they (Gordon and Snowy) probably know a lot more hockey than anyone posting on here. Not taking shots at anybody, just saying. Okie has has 5 points in 18 games, while being a -5. And you don’t seeing too many people riding him.. And Kyle Okposo has so much more potential. Bruno Gervais is a -10.. Although some people want to trade him, it’s not every post like Tambs.. And to be completely fair, it’s not like Tmabs is playing with a number 1 center to feed him the puck.. I’m sure if you put him on a line with Heatley and Spezza he would be fantastic..
.. I do agree that he has to produce.. Like, NOW. lol but I think there’s way too much expectations.. Especially with the team he’s on..
-
r u serious with that post PNP????? a lttle long???????????
-
Akeem I’m a hardcore hockey fan and I totally understood your point. I also don’t think Mitch Fritz should be here. It’s nice that he can beat the crap out of people but I agree he can not skate, hence why he plays only 2-3 minutes, if that.
Jeff Tambellini is running out of chances, I would like to see him play with either Baily and Okposo or Weight and Guerin, just to see if the kid could put the puck in the net playing with someone who can get him the puck and do the dirty work in the corners.
I do disagree with Tim Jackman being sent down and hope it’s just for a game or two.

Ryan, I agree with you entirely. I’m not sure why Okposo is put in positions where he can succeed, and Tambellini not. His best shot was the first week of the season when he was with Hunter and Frans Nielsen, but Gordon broke that up after a week, even though it was our most successful line in the pre-season, and had a great game against Tampa Bay that first week. Ever since then, he’s been wallowing with the Comries and Sims of the world, or playing with spark plugs like Thompson and Park, guys who aren’t suited to compliment Tamby’s skills. Just give him a legitimate chance to succeed, then if he doesn’t, we can ship him out of town.

Akeem please with a respect here,
in depth analysis is much better then a short & contrite lacking of any substance statement(wheres the facts to back up your point he blowes period…debate it feed it with fuel & facts not vagaries & sublime ignorance…
with all due repect .. lets talk hockey not favoritism of those wearing Islander Jerseys!
This is about the Club playing & getting better in the here & Now… where in this conversation does Jeff Tambellini fit?
Nowhere Period!
Fritz is the Answer when you compare wjat we lack against other clubs..Face it dislike it disagree with it…
all good.
Yet its as undeinable as the nose on your face!Toughness is Back NHL Hockey is Back !
Tambellini is a non issue!
Its just that our managment wants to make him one.. hey just like his dad, who is underachieving in Edmonton, maybe we can send him there to pove the whole league & their scouts wrong…
If His Father Can not motivatre him , then who can?
AHL Tambellini Good career its a given!Lets go Isles.. Lets gO Islanders!
-
Akeem, Theyve tried all the possibilities, he isnt excelling and hes soft.
PnP, great post.
-
Respect? How about respecting Chris and the rest of this blog by writing english, instead of whatever it is that was (it certainly wasn’t an “in-depth analysis”) – look up the word “contrite” bro.
This blog is for Islander Hockey talk, not for pointless banter. -
P-N-P, I thought you said Chris Botta asked you to make your posts shorter??? If thats shorter I guess you originally wanted to write a novel lol.
-
Sure I do P-N-P, we are all fans- well, most of us, anyway. I just think that you need to work a lil harder on that whole “making the posts shorter” thing.

“…I’m not saying Tambellini is anywhere near the caliber of St Louis, but he doesn’t have to play someone else’s game or change the way he plays in order to have success. If he plays his game right, he’ll be fine. Unfortunately to this point, it hasn’t happened…”
Yes he most certainly does have to play someone elses game- because his game so far has been nothing but a miserable failure at the NHL level. This man isnt a 20G rookie, he has played more than ONE HUNDRED games in the NHL and his point total is still in the TEENS. -
“get it through your head… its not about the style i wish for, or you wish for ryan…”
I hope nobody’s taking shots at me..
PNP, I don’t know why you feel the need to call people “B****’*.” I mean, I’m 6’3″ 275 with a 455 lbs deadlift.. haha I know there’s a lot of internet tough guys, but please.. No one’s being disrespectful but you.

I’d be interested in figuring out the team’s record with Fritz in the line-up. My memory seems to think its not too good but I may try and look it up over the next few days. PNP, I tell the college students I teach to practice an economy of words when making their point in their papers. Excess verbage detracts from many of your points, some of which have validity but get lost in a sea needless statements. Also, I agree, a little civility toward your detractors would go a long way toward increasing your credibilty.

thompson – fritz – jackman
crusher line.
tambellini needs to go. period.
-
KO, must be ready to go as that is the only way the lineup can shake out, however Jackman should most definitely be in the lineup ahead of Tamby. Last game Tamby played the least of anyone and stays active??? Jackman & JC were both out there killing penalties and playing D and hitting they do not deserve to get sent down.

You know I don’t think anyone here said that the Islanders couldn’t use an enforcer. What is being said is some of us don’t want an enforcer who can’t skate and only plays a minute a game. P~N~P you can say that fighting is back in the NHL all you want, I’m not going to argue that point, yet what you seem to fail to realize is that all of the other enforcers in the league can actually skate and they actually play more then 2 and a half minutes a game.
-
So basically what I’m getting is when the Islanders have a fourth line that can fight, they will start to win more hockey games?
-
I personally feel that the Islanders have a lot more pressing needs than a fourth line that’s tough.
-
I don’t see what wrong with a Sim-Park-Jackman fourth line…Sim’s a career pest, Park is like a gnat who just flies around the ice and Jackman is a guy who throws the body, fights and can actually score a few.
But toughness is not going to be the difference for this team. You already stated the difference for this team p-n-p. IF Okposo scores, IF Bailey turns it on. IF Weight and Streit continue on there pace. IF and a big IF Dipietro come’s back.
-
I really pray that Snow and Gordon are not dumb enough to send the team up against the likes of Brashear and Erskine without Fritz. Brashear especially is a jerk on the ice. The way he took advantage of 2008 Thrashers first rounder Bognosian is all you need to know.

“Is PnP really 19 from the Newsday Blog…”
LOL, exactly my 1st thoughts before I even started to read that missive. (I started reading it last night at 22:45…I just finished it).
And it’s 19IslesinNJ.

Ryan did you really post how much you can deadlift? What tool does that?
-
the 4 time Stanley Cup team New york Islanders from back in the day WON with fight just to name a few: Nystrom, Gillies, Lane…..
-
That’s the whole point. I agree with most of the anti-Fritz crowd. I want an enforcer who can also do other things. Nystrom, Gillies, Lane, Howatt, et al were valuable players outside of fighting. In the New NHL, and especially with Gordon’s coaching style, you have to be able to roll 4 strong lines, and the only way an enforcer fits into that is if he can also skate and put a few shots on net. I’m not anti-enforcer, I’m anti-giving a roster spot to a guy who’s in the box for 5 minutes a game and on the ice for 1.
-
That’s not to say I hate Fritz, just that I think the team is better with an enforcer who can be trusted to play some minutes.
-
I hope Snow and Gordon will find a way to keep Jackman in the lineup. He has been a true teammate and one of the hardest workers in the team. He deserves to stay.
As for bloggers who brought up KO’s stats: he has been better every game and showes a lot of progress. Just mark my words – he is going to be a NHL star.
Are we ready to shut down Ovechkin and Co?
If not, we need goals. Lots of them. I don’t think keeping Tambs will help. Unless he fights with Brashear and knocks him out (sorry, just dreaming…) -
i was thinking carrying 7 dman might be the way to go especially if fritz is going to play 30 secs…one main reason we blow leads is our D gets tired, atleast Bruno would play minutes and not seconds…Sutton, Witt, and Thompson can fight
-
Garth Snow’s youth movement continues.
-
Gordon didn’t get lucky with MacDonald. Most NHL teams have solid backup goalies. If you don’t have one, you blame the management. If you do have one, you give credit to the management. Snow and pals thought JoeyMac had the edge to become an NHL goalie and they were right. Right before them the Bruins entertained the same idea, but decided to play it safe and go for a more experienced NHL goalie because at the time they weren’t certain their starter was a true #1. Last year the Preds had an inconsistent starting goaltender in Mason, and eventually the backup took over. That’s Dan Ellis, a career AHL goalie, the same age as MacDonald with fewer NHL games on his resumé before last year than MacDonald.
-
I know everybody likes the over speed system. BUT if the season was to end today, the only 3 things we know so far about Flash is…he couldn’t reach tambellini, he couldn’t reach Comeau and he’s gotten Okposo to underachieve. Sorry folks, until I see something tangible I will continue to ask…who knows more about hockey, Ted Nolan OR the Wangster & Snow? It’s a legit Q and it’s a Q that’s gone unanswered through December 2nd.
Btw, the Isles ‘looking’ more fun to watch, is NOT something tangigible, not even close. Looking more exiting & 2 bucks gets you a subway ride, not the playoffs, not even improvement.

Both Jackman & Fritz will play vs. Caps on thursday…

wait, does this mean that we have a roster spot available???? i dont understand. two go down and one goes up ( vise versa actually)
