COULD DUBIE BE AN ISLANDER AGAIN?
DP done for season? groin strain for Joey Mac

by admin on January 13th, 2009 at 6:57 pm

UPDATED 7:55 pm - At 5:01 of the first period, Joey MacDonald left the game with a groin strain and was replaced by Yann Danis. He will be re-evaluated tomorrow.

*

We mostly joked about it happening when Wade Dubielewicz bolted Russia in mid-December, but Greg Logan has just reported that Dubie could be an Islander again in the very near future. GM Garth Snow told Logan that the team has had some talks with the cult favorite’s agent.

The bigger story of a Dubielewicz signing would be the cause. Rick DiPietro has had a series of doctors visits the last few days, and we could know this week if he can play again this season or will be shut down.

On the MSG Plus pre-game, Snow admitted he was “concerned” about the health of DiPietro but reiterated the organization will continue to have a cautious approach to the goalie’s recovery.

Looks like we could have resolution on DiPietro soon. And quite possibly the return of Du-bie, Du-bie.

Reaction.

    Do it.

    Do it now.

    Do it quickly.

  2. avatar UNH Steve says:

Shut DP down, get him healthy, sign Dubie, be done with it. Doesn’t sound hard to me

  3. avatar 7thWoman says:

    Now THIS is wildly entertaining!

  4. avatar BSTSTH18 says:

I wonder if this has anything to do with Dubie being in Bridgeport the other day.

  5. avatar MT says:

Very interesting. I wonder what changed Snow’s mind, didn’t he say he was ‘out of shape?’

Well Danis is in, might as well do it

  6. avatar Jason W says:

    Now we really need Dubie…

    Hope Joey Mac is ok

  7. avatar ken says:

dubie asking price just went up.

  8. avatar Justin says:

MacDonald injured. Really? Is this some kind of a joke, I mean this whole season? In the words of John McEnroe, “You can’t be serious?!”

  9. avatar Mike from Queens says:

I was going to say this before even MacDonald just got hurt. Sign Dubie if only to allow Mac to take some nights off and allow Danis to play in Bridgeport. Now? Has anyone heard from Glenn Healy or Tommy Soderstrom recently?

  10. avatar jon from nj says:

Egad…I’m not a lover of all things MacDonald, but he’s been the most vital Islander this year. Oh well…more games lost (not that he was winning them anyway) and a better shot at #1.

  11. avatar GasM.D. says:

Garth………YOU SUCK! You better draft a real frickin goalie prospect with your extra picks this year.

  12. avatar cody says:

send bailey to bridgeport to learn how to control the puck. and shoot the puck

  13. avatar Glenn says:

At least bringing Dubielwicz (sp) back would generate a little bit of a positive vibe with a fan base that has quite a few disenchanted members, though I’m not one of them. Here’s hoping it’s nothing serious with jMc, but as an Isles fan, I guess I have to be pessimistic and think that it could be a torn ACL or something
(as Tom Brady proved, you can walk on those)

  14. avatar ken says:

    call wade flaherty immediately.

  15. avatar The Losers says:

Anyone know where I can watch the game online?

    CenterIce lets me down again…

  16. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

Well if Dubie comes in and steals some games and puts us in a spot to draft 4th or 5th, you know we will all be screaming (me included). How about putting Garth down there to see what kind of cr@p team he put on the ice this year. I hope he proves me wrong in a year or too, but time will tell.

As for Dubie, I guess you don’t have much of a choice. But if Dubie was really that good I think he would have been picked up by one of the other 30 or so teams in the league.

  17. avatar Nick Classic says:

Kevin Poulin was taken in the 5th round last year, and he spoke about challenging DP at training camp. You can’t say the kid lacks confidence.

  18. avatar cody says:

    and tambs is shooting well

  19. avatar Glenn says:

Anyone remember when the Blues lost goalie after goalie and were going with
Curtis Sanford and Reinhard Divis years ago, both called up from the minors? Now THAT was ridiculous.

  20. avatar jon from nj says:

Tambellini has had more good touches in the past 4 or 5 games than he did in the previous season and a half.

  21. avatar BringBackNyles says:

CB who is the third emergency goalie? Isn’t it a little known NHL rule that in an emergency, almost anyone can fill in? (Is it Snow?)

  22. avatar cody says:

“lundqvist is giving up some juicy delectable, delirous rebounds in this first period.”
CB- that has to be the quote of the game

  23. avatar The Losers says:

    Ok I found it!

What was that? Was that a goal or Toronto/League showing their love for us?

  24. avatar frank nyc says:

does anyone have Tommy Soderstrom’s phone number?
    Eric Fichaud perhaps??
I don’t know why everyone is getting so excited about this potential dubie signing. He was not very good last year, so all the sudden he’s better now?
He was god for that one stretch before the 07 playoffs but thats it. Is their really no one else better out there?
    Another gratuitous 90′s goalie mention:
    Can someone email Tommy Salo…

  25. avatar BringBackNyles says:

    Felix Potvin, anyone?

  26. avatar ken says:

    danny lorenz always had promise

  27. avatar jon from nj says:

    bring back rolie the goalie

  28. avatar Chris A says:

Henrik looks the third string goalie and not Danis whose job has been made easier in the first with the goal and the strong play in the last seven minutes of the period.

    Keep It Up Guys!!!!!

  29. avatar Alex Kinkead says:

Who Cares who’s our losing goaltender

  30. avatar GasM.D. says:

Just have Gordon suit up. Let him face the wrath of his Overspeed system.

  31. Interesting pre-packaged faux-casual “State of the Club” / “Stay the course” position piece by Snow and Jaffe here during the first intermission.

I see they thought this was necessary. I see they rehearsed a bit. At least they see a NEED to communicate, anyway.

  32. avatar upstatenyifan says:

Gotta love that first period! Is Jamie Mclennen still playing hockey? Maybe Mark Fitzpatrick is still available?

  33. avatar Outside says:

    Dunham named 3rd goalie…

  34. avatar The Losers says:

    MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIKE DUNHAM!

    I’m speechless

  35. avatar James says:

First Junior Lessard and now THIS! Get out of town!

  36. avatar GasM.D. says:

How about Sir Groin himself, Ron Hextall. AKA Rick Sr.

  37. avatar dp says:

    GROIN STRAIN

  38. avatar effin5 says:

    Bring back Chico!!!

  39. avatar Miket says:

    Its comical at this point

  40. avatar Darthziggy says:

CB you were so close to an on-air mention! They were talking about Dubie coming back, Howie said the word “blog” and then was interrupted, and then they moved on. Oh well.
And I’m lovin this game so far!

  41. avatar UIF says:

frank NYC: “He was not very good last year, so all the sudden he’s better now?”

20 games played last year; .919 save percentage; 2.70 GAA. Those are good numbers. And the bulk of those starts came after DP went down and most of the team was injured, when he was defended by such stalwarts as Rob Davison. Not saying Dubie could ever sustain that level of play for a full season, but he wouldn’t have to. If he was signed today, and split time with Mac, he’d get probably the same 20 starts, if that.

  42. avatar Darthziggy says:

UIF – the way our luck has been so far this season, whoever we sign may be splitting the remainder of the season with Danis, not JMac. I’d love to see Dubie back though.

  43. avatar KP says:

    DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-BIE!!!

If Rick is done, do it.

The little goalie that could deserves it.

  44. avatar Tiki says:

I wouldnt wish this team on anyone. Hope Dubie signs elsewhere. We showed him zero loyalty last year!
If Pandit can break up Citi, anything is possible. Maybe Wang will finally bow out and let REAL PROFESSIONALS run this team.

  45. avatar JOE RVC says:

garth get in the goal..and see how much it sucks to play in front of that team youve assembled

  46. Think Dubie’s price just went up?

“So MacDonald is hurt now, too, eh? Let me think on it.”

  47. avatar Dan from Westchester says:

What’s mark fitzpatrick up to these days?

  48. avatar James says:

I would give anything for Tom Draper right now.

  49. Salo the only one not mentioned so far?

@Glenn (19) I believe the Blues had a year where they used eight goaltenders. I mean … eight! Think Barrasso’s final NHL game was one.

  50. avatar chickendirt says:

I think we are gonna win this one.

If our trend in third periods continues the Rags are in big trouble here.

BTW; Props to Tambellini who’s havin a real good game tonight. I wonder if he’s rewarded here in the third.

  51. avatar Joe says:

Tamby sucks what are you talking about?

    Jackman just hurt himself…damn

  52. avatar Darthziggy says:

chickendirt, I agree with you about Tamby’s play, but I’m blaming that penalty on you! haha

  53. avatar Joe says:

Tambys had two dumb penaltys one lead to a goal.

  54. avatar GasM.D. says:

Tambellini should just change professions. Maybe become a figure skater. Just take the stick away from him. When he goes on the ice during a shift, they should just have him wave pom poms.

  55. avatar mkinPORmd says:

you have to give the kids some credit here, they are playing pretty well.

  56. avatar Tiki says:

A good game for Tamby is knowing hes on the ice. So, even if he takes a penalty, at least we know hes there.
    He sucks.

  57. avatar JOE RVC says:

another good effort and another step closer to john tavares

  58. avatar UIF says:

“When he goes on the ice during a shift, they should just have him wave pom poms.”

    The imagery is hysterical.

I think the Isles have been sloppy in the third…lots of offsides, bumping into each other, etc. Just like to see them put one in here late.

  59. avatar The Losers says:

Nice “icing” calls by the refs… Jackman then Thompson… that some bull

  60. avatar Darthziggy says:

I know I’m a little late here, but did anyone else see 6 Rangers (plus Lundqvist) on the ice during the eventual game-winning goal? Dawes jumped on the ice, but no one went to the bench, and there were 3 Rangers in their own zone! Can someone either back me up or give some more info please?

  61. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

Losers, maybe the refs got orders from Toronto to make sure the Isles lose and get another stop closer to JT.

  62. avatar Alex Kinkead says:

    John Tavares!

  63. avatar The Losers says:

I really really hope so Joe

I just hope we don’t lose the lottery to the Leafs or something…

    (Sorry for excessive posts CB)

  64. avatar Chris A says:

I know it brings us closer to Tavares but it still sucks to lose to that “team” from Manhattan

  65. avatar cody says:

    Steven Stamkos!….oh wait

  66. avatar JOE RVC says:

will kate murray let tavares play for the isles or will she try to block that too?

  67. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

Any loss to the Rangers is tough, but you have to somehow believe there is light at the end of the tunnel. This years draft (JT, VH, etc) and hopefully decent addition of a free agent (Komi) should determine the direction of this franchise over the next few years.

  68. avatar Dally Mac says:

Junior Lessard will end up being our Patrick Sharp. Mark my words…..hahahaha

  69. avatar GasM.D. says:

Actually, Skinner’s now gonna become a top 4 defenseman.

  70. avatar djd says:

hey UIF (post 41) – we could use Rob Davison big time these days – would be a top 4 dman on this team and make Witt more expendable

  71. avatar MiKe says:

Return of Yoda. But I want the #1 pick!!! I swear if he comes back and the Isles pass Tampa or whoever in the standings, I’ll be PISSED.

  72. avatar Dally Mac says:

My fear too Mike. Dubie screws us over by winning. The ultimate revenge.

  73. avatar MiKe says:

Sorry my bad. Its Ottawa!? that is 2nd to last in the league! Holy isht do they suck. They really fell apart eh? Only 4 pts behind us too?! Somehow we will screw it up and get the #2 pick and miss out on Taveras.

  74. avatar dalcy says:

good dubie is better at losing games that Macdonald.

  75. avatar jon says:

we will finish last, yet somehow, definitely lose the lottery….OR win just enough to fall out of the top 2. just this franchise’s luck. you think the NHL wants tavares going to the Isles? Psht..they’ll rig that lottery. Thats how bad this organization’s luck is.

  76. avatar GasM.D. says:

Anyone else notice that Hunter hasn’t scored in 15 games? Hunter should personally knockout Mottau for taking Nielsen away from him all this time.

  77. avatar pat says:

i can’t get over how pathetic this whole situation is

i’ve watched the isles since day 1 and this season is the lowest

  78. avatar Willis says:

LOL, Poor, poor Scott Gordon!!! No wonder he was acting so happy in the interview, he freakin cracked! Oh the poor guy, hahaha!

As Nick Classic pointed out (love the name, BTW!) the Isles drafted Kevin Poulin was last year. He had a real buzz the year before he was drafted, but struggled in his draft year and slipped in the draft significantly. He is a big kid with a lot of potential. :)

  80. avatar Zach says:

    Dubie Dubie Doo

    C’mon!

  81. avatar Brian G says:

Danis looks shell shocked out there everytime he plays – doesn’t look like an NHL goalie….CB – is there anyway they sign the Goalie prospect they have in Sweden – Ridderwall and bring him over to play the Rest of the year?

  82. avatar isles316 says:

I think the Islanders made a mistake not signing another goalie this offseason. I know they tried to sign Dubie but the 2 way contract offer was a slap in the face probably. Macdonald has played far too many games and I’m sure that couldn’t have helped his injury situation. This should have been done when Dubie came back from Russia. The Isles owe a lot to MacDonald for being an ironman with no help in front of him, let’s hope now they do something right.

  83. avatar Marc from Troy says:

Yeah, it’s Snow/Gordon’s fault that another goalie gets hurt. It’s like some of you aren’t happy unless you’re pissing and moaning about something – like the really earth-shattering trade of two minor-league players. Let’s get worked up about that a little more.

  84. avatar Paul says:

Look, you cant say the Islanders tried to sign Dubie, becuase that 2 way deal was made for a reason. It was to let him walk because they new he would not except it.
Obivously we needed him and need him now.
So It was a mistake on Snows part and poor planning for not signing him because nobody knew how mcdonald would turn out.

  85. avatar stevedepot says:

I don’t want Dubie back here.
Roberto Luongo is coming back in Vancouver and one of Labarbera or Sanford will be available. Most likely via waivers. They are playing Labarbera and it looks like Sanford could be there for the taking.

  86. avatar Randy Boyd says:

Sign dubie for next season, but don’t let him play this year. He could very well cost us the #1 pick if he plays.

  87. avatar Todd says:

I know I will get yelled at for saying this, but: Is it possible that Rick D’s knee doctor is a ranger fan? How is it possible that we have such bad luck with a simple meniscus surgery? This is not a major knee surgery. WHen I saw that the rangers have only 10 games lost to injury, and we have like hundreds, it hit me. WHo is this lousy knee doctor that D used? WHy isn’t he suing this bastrd

  88. avatar Spittin'chicklets says:

Curtis Sanford just waived by Canucks.. pick him up.

  89. avatar GasM.D. says:

BTW, I said REAL goalie prospect. One with enough skill to become an elite nhl goaltender. Do you really think Rick won’t be reinjured even if he sits the year out. Even if he doesn’t hurt his hips, knees, and groin, the idiot has a concussion history to boot.
