Maybe they’re making a big deal about Sabourin.
BUY OUT, BUY OUT, BUY OUT!
I know, it’s impossible…
Hope I’m wrong, but I’m getting a sinking feeling that they will say he had additional surgery and will be out remainder of season- - hope I’m wrong
The first thing everyone should hope for is that he is ready and healthy to play for the 2009-2010 season. He is an elite athlete at a very taxing position. If he were to put it all together, he would be a great goalie for years to come.
Point #2 — If for any reason these injuries and operations just cannot make him 100%, pray that there’s an out in this contract or even better, the insurance covers their loss. Give yourself a chance to find a #1 goalie for next year. Don’t settle for a 90% DiPietro.
I hope 39 is back in net. At 4.5 million a year, we all should.
Let’s hope that #39 can get healthy for the beginning of a ‘much better yet still lousy’ 2009-2010 season. We NEED a #1 goalie and when healthy—which, granted has not been often in the last year—he definitely is that.
Shut him down and get him healthy for next season.
Common sense would be that his season is over and that they have possibly aquired another goaltender. Even though a lot of people have said things about Ricky I kind of feel bad for him. It has to be killing him that he can’t play and help this team out. It must also be bad to constantly have surgeries and rehab and on and on. Hopefully the Isles do the right thing and don’t rush him back like the Mets did last season with Ryan Church.
This is the right move.
Shut him down and hope he returns to form in 2009-2010. Hopefully we win the Tavares sweepstakes.
Well it’s about time, I would much rather have DP stay out the rest of this season, heal up nicely and make a healthy come back for next year when he will be needed so much more.
DP out for the season?
yea thats about right. Its for the best.
We would like him to stick around for atleast half of that contract.
Can’t we all admit drafting DIPI was a monumental mistake and we all wish we still had Luongo. Oh the though of Heatley, Spezza, Zac Parise. What could have been.
SHOCKING!
it is quite funny. THis being a rebuild year and the despearate need to draft tavares and get that #1 pick, it really is the perfect storm for us. I know a silver lining in all of this turmoil. Think about it. DP at the top of his game, even with the injuries to this team could very well steal some more games (look he got an assist in one of his games) if he did that with this team then maybe we get the 6 pick and miss ou ton tavares. and if DP does not play well on purpose (not like he ever would) we could definetly be accused of tanking the season. No one can argue that point with us, we have played a goalie (MacDonald) with 17 games of NHL experience this year for most of the season. now Danis. Perfect recipe for that #1 pick. I also think he will be back in tip top shape for next year. still young enough.
NEW YORK (AP) -New York Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro is out for the season because of continuing problems with a surgically repaired knee.
If DiPietro is out for the season, I see no reason to aquire another goalie. This season is done with so why use cap space for someone who’s not gonna turn things around anyway?
Thanks for keeping us updated CB…good ol Hicksville boy!!
What’s your favorite number….I’m getting a BOTTA jersey!!!!!!!!
CB, are you offically out of timeout
All in all this is probably very good news, but i want to hear once and for all what the heck is wrong with his knee. He had what is basically minor knee surgery, this shouldn’t have happened i am worried this could become a career problem.
Lorne,
No reason to bring up the obvious. The team has made many mistakes. I just wish people would stop mentioning Luongo everytime something negative happens to DP. Our franchise goaltender is out for the year. Thats the story here. Luongo has nothing to do with DP.
Ricky is done for the season.

That’s great.
DP is like the Marian Gaborik of Goalies.
He’ll be ready for the KC home opener.
Just saw Edmonton placed Danny Sabourin on waivers.
With DiPietro out for the season, I see no reason to aquire another goalie. This season is done with so why use cap space for someone who’s not gonna turn things around anyway?
Luongo played 24 games for the Isles, he was 7-14-1. Lets stop treatimg him like he was the second coming. DP wasn’t the bad part of that deal. Kvasha was. Milbury evaluated talent by how tall you were. He’d have been better for the Knicks than Isaiah
Get healthy Rick. Here is to a great next season. We are hoping u will be 100% by September….
ken with your team spirit, you could be the macot! good for us and ricky.
if we pick up sabourn we can have more cap to trade away players. the news keeps getting better!
