MANNINO YES, SHANAHAN NO
Talk about the game here. See you after.

by admin on January 17th, 2009 at 5:44 pm

UPDATED, 6:30 pm: Point Blank will be a first-intermission guest on the Devils’ TV broadcast on MSG Plus 2. I should have dressed better.

Peter Mannino has arrived to back up Yann Danis. Brendan Shanahan will not play until at least Monday in Nashville. Revenge on Mike Mottau? I can see Nate Thompson trying to rough him up, but wouldn’t expect much. Five-minute pre-game ceremony honoring milestones of Doug Weight and Bill Guerin.

Talk about the game, within the Guidelines, in Comments.

tonight could have been a lot more exciting. Thanks howeson.

  2. avatar Bloodyskull says:

With all doob respect, does anyone think this was going to be a factor for us going down the 2nd half stretch? It would give the fans a thing or 2 to get excited about (which would be nice) but after he came in and lost 6 or 7 all Dubiemania would be gone.

  3. avatar admin says:

I know there’s not a whole helluva lot to talk about on the hockey side these days, but after 150 Comments I think we can move along on the Dubie discussion. All of it – Curtis Freakin’ Sanford, Snow’s very minor signing of Wade, whether the CBJ are evil for trying to win games or (my favorite) that this somehow forces the NYI to trade groin-strained 38-year old Doug Weight to Columbus – is just no big whoop…CB

  4. avatar toorude says:

the whole dubie situtation is a representation of life in islander land – its like that ziggy cartoon – we cant get anything right, anything to go our way, any bounce, any call, any “the play is under formal review” – the ownership, the gm, the coach, the trade, the pick, the free agent market, the arena, the town, the league, the cable channel, the radio reception, the uniforms, the condition of the ice, the door on the penalty box, the groins, the hips, the knees, all of it. fate can be cruel.

  5. avatar Strummer's Army says:

They way I see it is if he would have stolen games for the Isles it would have done nothing but mess up our chances at Tavares, so it might be a blessing. The Isles seemed destined to get him.

Sadly, I think CB is right in that the Isles will probably have no response for the EXTREMELY DIRTY AND INTENTIONAL HIT ON NIELSEN LAST GAME. It is a shame. I remember Mottau sitting in the box laughing about it and making idiot comments and lies after the game. It really troubles me the culture in the organization is to take it and allow other teams to get away with it. It is shameful!

If Al Arbour was coaching this team still he would have gotten them the same night and he would have gotten them several times after too. It is hard to watch.

  6. avatar dmen77 says:

To me it’s more in our favor to have Dubie claimed by Columbus.

Dubielewicz will be playing the rest of the season for a contract next season, and you don’t want your goalie in that situation if the “goal” of the team is to develop the kids and better themselves for the future (top 2 pick, Tavares/Hedman).

I think Dubie showed us enough magic these past 2 seasons that he may have won us some games that we don’t really need to win. A Danis/Mannino tandem until Joey Mac is back is just perfect in my eyes.

Lets root for a “payback” win tonight and also root for our neigbors to get some points as well. Atlanta, Ottawa, St Louis and Tampa all play tonight too.

Geez you got out shopping for one afternoon an look at what I missed! Unreal, I have no idea what to make of anything this franchise does anymore, nothing surprises these days..
Well Isles fans..you know what porky pig says..yep!.. :(
Thank you CB, once again for all the updates and at least you keep the fans in the know.
    Have a nice evening everyone!

dont shoot the messenger –theres a rumor that the oilers are trading us danny sabourin who they aquired today in a deal with pens

kinda makes sense because why would the oilers need sabourin when they’ve been trying to get rid of a 3 headed system

  9. avatar kevin says:

well i do expect the isles to get revenge on mike. they have not stuck up for the goalie when he got run but on only 3 occasions i remember they stick up for the players. when voros hit bergie from behind and guerin jumped him. comrie for okposo against dawes. and hunter for neilson. i think they are going to give it to mike and then say that they need to stick up for one another. i say we win 4-3. lots of physical play. lots.

  10. avatar Netminder39 says:

Danis has played well, but with no help from this offense at all. The offense has to find a way to score, and hope Danis can continue his good playing.

  11. avatar islanders1984 says:

who would we trade for sabourin, just play mannio and danis, don’t trade anyone snow

  12. avatar BringBackNyles says:

Nice to see the Isles suspended their we do not honor ANY player achievements on the ice this year to invite the players, families and NHL to award jerseys and sticks to Weight and Geurin.

At the end of the second period, Joey will be honored for being named the third best player for the month of October in the entire NHL at the third stall in the mens room next to gate 12, please do not tell DP

  13. avatar walter says:

    sens win would be huge

  14. avatar kevin says:

too bad they did honor him. we already went through this…. good to see that video on the youngin’s hitting and howie and billie adress mottaue and then isles fans booing him. good stuff. tambs already has 2+ hits. i hope he beats his most likely career high of 5 from last game.

  15. avatar kevin says:

WHAT THE HELL ARE DANIS AND THE REF THINKING!?!?!?!? the devil should have gotten interference on the comrie hit from behind and danis should actually try and move the puck instead of standing there

  16. avatar Islander505 says:

Someone should put a Devils jersey on Comrie…he can only see white out there

  17. avatar walter says:

over under 9 wins for the rest of the year

  18. avatar islanders1984 says:

    hopefully under walter

  19. avatar ny711ot says:

under and I ll give you 3….

  20. avatar walter says:

    Chris Botta, Editor of Islanderspointblank.com

  21. avatar walter says:

    thats a nice sweater

  22. avatar ny711ot says:

    nice fashion statement cb….

  23. avatar guerin13 says:

good job chris. good job by the devils to give you the time. it’s amazing that the isles are only down by a goal after one. after the early gaffe danis has played well and bailed out his d.

  24. avatar The Losers says:

Motteau looks indimidated… or its just me lol

  25. avatar The Losers says:

    Intimidated^ Sorry

And 2-0, ugh… we look dead out there for the most part

  26. avatar kevin says:

whats up with witt? he should have stopped that pass with ease. he looked pissed. typical of clarkson for running away

  27. avatar guerin13 says:

and that should be game. this is a pathetic effort.

  28. avatar walter says:

    oh well

  29. avatar kevin says:

dubie-dubie-doo where are you. we need a real goalie. or an experienced one. come on down mike dunham. this is embarrasing. i think i would rather lose in the third even after being up by 5.

  30. avatar The Losers says:

    guerin13 I agree…

and Campoli left… they “don’t know if its equipment related or not”

  31. avatar mrlbem says:

Worst effort of the season so far.

  32. avatar ny711ot says:

gosh its painful to see parise and tambellinni out there at the same time…
they r all playing like carp…

  33. avatar kevin says:

nice fight. but jackman had the wrong guy. the number he is supposed to get is 27 not 24. silly goose. this is why i like jackman. he really improved himself in every aspect from last year. at least the young guys are making plays. little ones but thats all that matters.

  34. avatar Bloodyskull says:

I hate Comrie almost as much as I hated Kvasha…………. almost

  35. avatar MSA says:

Call me crazy, but could the team not showing up tonight be related to the roller-coaster ride high of being excited about Dubie, then the low of having him scooped up by the CBJs????

  36. avatar walter says:

we need this loss ottawa is losing

  37. avatar BringBackNyles says:

CB nice press for the blog the past couple days!

  38. avatar The PolishPrince says:

is it just me or does Comrie’s skating and passing give the impression that he just doesn’t give a ^&**.

  39. avatar Jimmy Mac says:

    They’re horrible tonight…

  40. avatar kevin says:

can we trade a 4th or 5th for rupp. maybe throw in pock. good for both teams

  41. avatar guerin13 says:

the good news is that atlanta and tampa are both winning their games. this might be the worst performance of the year. they don’t seem with it tonight.

  42. avatar Pritchett54 says:

If atlanta holds on to their 4-0 lead, we will have a 9 point “lead” for the worst record in the NHL. All this means of course is a 49% (or thereabouts) shot of Tavares. We need him so badly it is scary.

  43. avatar Pritchett54 says:

Tavares, Bailey, Okposo are 3 pretty solid young players to build around and if Ricky comes back healthy after another 9 months off, maybe there will be some optimism around here.

  44. avatar Jimmy Sparx says:

This game sucks just like MSG+2.

  45. avatar Quagmire says:

I know this is an old one, but seriously, how the heck did the Isles pass on Parise? I clearly remember the ESPN guy going nuts when the Isles and whoever was in front of them didn’t pick him (Rangers too, I think). Milbury has to go down as one of the worst execs in the history of pro sports. Even almost 10 years later, the thought that he traded Luongo and Joikinen for garbage still drives me crazy and I don’t think I will ever be able to let go of the anger!!!

  46. avatar Jimmy Sparx says:

    Who’s Milbury?????

  47. avatar walter says:

Hey CB any chance of getting comments from gov. Patterson about the lighthouse project? I believe he was a resident of the town of hempstead in his youth

  48. avatar volmeeezy says:

and the comebacks on! nice job blake

  49. avatar guerin13 says:

about bloody time the isles did something in this game. at least we get a comeau goal to take out of this game. he showed some nice hands there.

  50. avatar Joe G says:

Quagmire, im with you. every time i see that moron Milbury doing commentary in a game giving his opinions, it makes me sick listening and looking at the MAIN reason the Isles are where they are today.

  51. avatar kevin says:

im questioning this teams unity. nothing on mottuea and when the other team is around are goalie or giving a slash or running him there is little to no reaction.

  52. avatar kevin says:

nice goal by comeua. he has to move the puck faster though. i like when he takes his time but sometimes he almost gets caught.

  53. avatar walter says:

    go sens go

  54. avatar Pritchett54 says:

I have pretty much put Milbury out of my mind but every once in a while i just lose my mind. To think about Chara, Luongo, Jokinen, Heatley, Spezza, Bertuzzi, Parise, etc. It just drives me insane. I cant get past the feeling that Filatov is gonna be the next Pavel Bure and when we do get the 1st pick this summer, we will trade down for a character guy from the Erie Otters.

  55. avatar kevin says:

yes pritchett, thats exactly what garth is going to do. trade down again to refill the propect sytem again……moron..

  56. avatar Kyle says:

The Edmonton Oilers traded goaltender Mathieu Garon to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday for goaltender Dany Sabourin, centre Ryan Stone, and a fourth-round pick in 2011.

    NEXT

  57. avatar MSA says:

While I want the picks as much as everyone, 2-18-2 is demoralizing to the fans, and more importantly, to the players (especially the developing youth movement).

  58. avatar beatlebailey says:

wow what a *hitshow tonight was. I get stuck in a section surrounded by a birthday party for 30 5 year olds watching this schlock. Nights like tonight build character…of islanders FANS!!..:-)

  59. avatar Gman13 says:

its 2-17-2, anyway, did witt get x-rays? that looked like a nasty bruise. anyone see the inside of the sprint center? looks amazing. the isles should get that outline for the lighthouse. i am going to be sooo mad if the isles go there. can’t they get 32 teams and then have a team there and one in ontario or another canadien city.
