Anti-KC fans speak their minds to the prez
PB reader Mike Isserlis and his buddies made a fancy anti-Kansas City sign and brought it to the game last night. They came upon Islanders President Chris Dey and shared their passion for the team. Mike asked Dey if they could take a picture, and the president happily obliged. Dey “happened to be a real nice guy.” Here’s Dey with Mike’s friend from Searingtown, Eric.

I gotta have that picture and a photo release–We have to put these on Chocolate CB…Soon we can start a Let Them Play chant like in the Bad News Bears…
-
IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME.
-
haha nice photo and sign. good stuff
-
It’s really nice when they take time out for stuff like that.
Did anyone see today’s newsday? talk about goin from no press to all about the Isles, they have some Good articles by Greg Logan, Mark Hermann and Jim Baumbach on the Islanders and about the LH project, yep the LH is the talk and the KC preseason game next sept and they talk about the new training facility up in Saskatoon..good reads, yet sad in ways because of the reality check when you see it all out there in print, you realize just how bad things are looking.
I keep trying to cheer them on and I keep saying better days are coming, but its getting hard. I hope the team I’ve grown to love doesn’t or isn’t forced to move to another city, it would be one sad day. -
That is awesome! I’m sure there are so many that share those sentiments. Good job!

Hey Chris, What did Wang do? Threaten to pull his advertising dollars from Newsday?
All of a sudden Newsday realizes that there is a team based on Long Island.
On a normal game day you get maybe one page sometimes half. Off day get nothing or a quarter page column.
Now it’s all Islanders all the time.
Makes you wonder………SW
-
SW … maybe Newsday finally realized the Islanders call Long Island home, as the Island’s only major league sports franchise.
***********
On a lighter note … the Isles magic # to clinch no worse than the second pick by finishing dead last is 66 points. Any combo of 66 points by Atlanta or Ottawa combined with loses of points by the Isles and the Isles clinch dead last. 37 games left for the Isles, 36 for Thrashers and 39 for Sens. There are other teams in the running too … but Atlanta and Ottawa are tied for 37 points … the two teams closes to the Isles. -
CB- I wasn’t even going to mention this because it’s one man’s opinion. A teammate of mine lived in KC for 5 years early this decade, & is a re-patrioted NY’r that has no love for the Isles. However, he said, “There is NO WAY that KC could support an NHL team. Aside from hockey being alien to the area the entire metro area doesn’t have the regional density of most NHL cities. The sports that dominate there are Football & Basketball. KC area is a few municipalities on the KS/MO state line, and if you go 10 miles in any direction, NOTHING.”

Ha! Yeah the Kate Murray one was great!
-
initial emotional outbursts aside i really believe the lighthouse project will get done. Will it be approved in its entirety as currently proposed? Probably not. I would think that the lighthouse group proposed the plan thinking they may have to scale back some of it but really if they get 75% or more of it you would think they would be happy and murray can say she listened to the traffic concerns of her constiuents blah blah blah and we get to retire Tavares number at the new coliesum. I am being positive!!
-
beatlebailey I htink you have it right. It will get approved just not exactly how wang wants it. Compromises must be made.
-
Good stuff lol
-
why do compromises have to be made? has anyone in kate murray’s office said that? doesn’t she keep talking about the environmental report? and he already compromised by jetting the lighthouse building. he needs to stand strong or just get move the club. no more whiny cowardice islander fans. have balls.
-
d, do you think that Wang can’t make money unless he gets literally EVERYTHING he’s asking for? I’d hope that if scaling it back a bit makes the difference between moving and not, Wang would have the good sense to do it.
-
Give Wang credit.its like NY woke up and said…hey the Islanders exsist…lets keep it that way
Kate Murray isn’t getting ANY good press
-
Hear me out for a quick second….
With the way things have gone for us this year … WHAT ON EARTH LEADS YOU TO BELIEVE THAT TAVARES IS A GIVEN? WHAT ON EARTH LEADS YOU TO BELIEVE THOSE PING-PONG BALLS WILL WORK (FOR) AND NOT (AGAINST) US?
We have a 25% chance of getting that 1st pick in the Draft Lottery. With this franchise’s luck….I’d be WARY even if we had 99.9% of a chance!
-
Beatlebailey’s points are right on. The way the state law is constructed, final scope is determined after the environmental review and public comments. I will always support the Lighthouse, but I never for one second thought that it would end up looking exactly like the renderings. The Lighthouse group will almost certainly want more development and the Town of Hempstead may want less development. As long as they build it without compromising the idea of a walkable central community, I’m happy, because Long Island gets a blueprint for new development and we can keep the Islanders where they belong. Keeping positive and showing that we’re here is the most important thing – and how less crazy do I sound after carping for months that the future of the team was far more important than Dubie, Witt, or any individual player?
In addition – is anybody else developing an intense hatred for Kansas City? And does anybody else feel a sudden urge to go down there somewhere around, oh, September 22?
-
Nick … being a Yankee fan from childhood and witnessing the battles with the Royals from the Mid 70s though the early 80s to George Brett’s Pinetar gate … I have already acquired a taste for hating KC & the Royals … also as a kid I had some great juvenile laughs at some Royals players names …. Like Cookie Rojas & Pete LaCock … ah memories.
-
Newsday is not covering this story to help the islanders people. Charles Dolan and his spoiled kids are just tring to place the final nail in place so their ranger monopoly will stand out later. Screw newsday, kansas city and Kate Murray. I`m a life long Republican and isles fan. If this administration causes this team to leave there will be hell to pay.
-
If anything, the Rangers NEED the Islanders around. When they’re both competitive….there’s very few rivalries in sports that matches up to the intensity in either venue that hosts Islanders/Rangers games. The Devils/Pens/Flyers are great enemies for the Rangers …. but the Islanders bring something different to the table for them.
-
angrypete. the way this season is going, were going to come in last. so even if we get the second pick, we get hedman. either way, franchise player so i am not complaining. i would rather tavares but like i said either way, franchise player
-
Agreed Nick (#18) when you stop and think aboutit the only non-political concern over the project should be traffic. So the lighthouse people ease these concerns and it should get done. The county wants it, the developers have not asked for public money (that i have seen) and the economy would benefit. I dont see how this thing fails.
-
kevin … I understand completely, any team would be lucky to have either of those 2 guys. However, we have no natural goal scorers on this team, nor do any free agents want to come here for the time being, until we start winning again. I want a legit sniper. I want the sexy pick. I’ve lived thru Kenny Jonsson and Zdeno Chara and Bryan McCabe and the likes. Gimme someone who people want to come see!

I was right there with MY BOYS.Great night we had a few signs. The other was Kate Murray is the Devil!
Haha good times with eric and mike..
