SEPTEMBER IN SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN
Training camp 09 in another NHL wannabe town
The opening of Islanders Training Camp 2009 will be in Saskatoon, another town with their eyes on an NHL franchise. Read all about it in the Saskatoon Star Phoenix. (Enjoy the trip, Logie).
Next up: a home game against the Maple Leafs in Hamilton. Home opener in Harbin. A game against the Sharks in Las Vegas. These are just jokes, friends. What a week.
Reaction.

Saskatoon is closer to KC then Moncton so it could be another step west
not funny chris! im still planning on holding my wedding reception at the lighthouse in 2k10
If they’re going to do it, might as well take the tour CB and check our Hamilton, and why not Winnipeg?
If they do move, it would sting less if they ended up in Canada.
Is Sillinger planning to play or coach in training camp? He seems very excited.
On a separate note, did anyone see Go Go’s comments about how the rest of the season isn’t about wins/losses, rather it’s about chances for/against? I thought it was about Tavhe.
The Isles were only in Moncton due to Nolan’s ties to the area. Let them go to a different area and bond there, and please let’s not read anything into this.
CB - I know your Harbin line was a joke, but the Islanders and Sharks have both been very active in trying to build Chinese hockey. What are the odds of a season opener between these 2 teams in China? Could be a very exciting thing for the NHL.
I think it’s very important for fans to try and get tomorrow’s game sold out.
Seriously, do everything you can to come out tomorrow night and be loud. We are 7 points up on the Tavheduch watch that we might as well go nuts for a night.
Plus maybe the Isles can get back at Mottau.
Seriously guys, really try to go and get all you can to go as well. It would be a nice statement from the fanbase that they are behind Wang and the organization.

I couldn’t agree more lets get as many fans there tomorrow as possible, Please for the sake of the franchise if you can get there please do so show the TOH we care about this team.
Wow, gotta give it Wang and Dey. They sure know how to pump PR out there.
Here’s an original thought. Why can’t Wang refurbish the Coliseum and then get a lease extension from the County at a rate that would allow him to recoup his losses and get out from under the SMG contract? Both sides could agree to tear up the current leases and rework it so that Wang makes his money back. Suozzi
has the power to do this without Murray’s approval.
If Wang heart is really with the Islanders he should have no problem doing this. And no excuse not to……SW
Another thought.
The Marriot Hotel is across the parking lot from the Coliseum. Do they really want another hotel built so close?
The EAB office building is across the Turnpike. I have heard that there is lots of empty space not being rented. Does EAB really want offices built across the way?
Roosevelt Field Mall is about 5 miles from the Coliseum. After the mall just pumped untold millions into refurbishing, do they really want stores and shops opening up a few miles away?
All of these venues are located within the TOH and are already paying taxes and no doubt making political contributions.
Could this be the reason Ms Murray is so slow to act?……..SW

WAVE YOUR MAGIC WAND….MAKE LIKE THE PIED PIPER,,,,CALL IN THE MASSES FOR A HUGE RALLY IF ISLANDERS FANS IN FRONT OF KATE MURRAYS OFFICE…THAT OUGHT TO LIGHT A FIRE UNDER HER ASS.
EVERYONE COULD WEAR ISLES JERSEYS AND CHANT..LETS DO IT !
I hope they do schedule more preseason games in cities that are pursuing teams. A wise move and a wise move to hold camp in a city that wants a team.
I am wondering if SNow is gonna be at the All-star game working on trades and how soon the first significant move will occur.
i think we’ll see an nhl franchise in mexico city before we will in saskatoon. canada will get at least one more nhl franchise but not in saskatoon. they are about 812th in the running for an nhl franchise.
CB, Sillinger sure doesn’t sound like a vet ready to retire in that Star Phoenix piece!
Can’t see the Islanders ever potentially moving to, of all places, Saskatchewan.
Weren’t the canadian fans all worried Bettman was trying to bounce them out of the game just a couple of years back anyways?
NEWSFLASH!!!!
Those of you tuning into tonight’s Devils/Isles game will be able to hit your SAP button and have the choice of listening to the audio broadcast in either Mandarin Chinese or Country Western.
i feel like kate murray has no business handling this situation and is acting completely inappropriate. i dont want to say she’s acting derelict of duty just yet, but its boarderline. “that hockey guy” talk about classless.
i dont think she understand the monumental situation surrounding her very cavalier attitude!!
i think the people of long island are starting to wake up to the fact kate murray is unfit for the office she holds!!
for those in attendance tomorrow, be LOUD
Michael we really REALLY need to be LOUD for the rest of the year…SHOW UP IN PRIDE OF THE ISLANDERS!!!
PROVE HOW MUCH WE CARE
Ryan,
Should we be 8th seed loud or last in the league loud?
“about to lose your hockey team” loud
not trying to show disrespect for Mike -but does anyone else find it odd that Sillinger thinks he’ll be at that camp ?
I wonder if he’s been asked to join the coaching staff for next season ?
SW,
Rechler owns both the Marriott and the building FORMERLY known as EAB Plaza, which is currently known as RexCorp PLaza, after Rechler’s company. The existing hotel and office complex are not the issue.
For Sir William—– Both the Marriott and the “EAB” now Rexcorp plaza are owned by Wang and Rechler aka The Lighthouse Development Corp. The project would stretch al the way across the turnpike and that is one of the reasons Wang partnered with Rechler. The project went from 77 to over 150 acres. Rechler also owns the Omni office building across from Nassau Community College. Just an FYI.
Ah this sucks, I’m only 5 hours from Moncton and enjoyed going there and Yartmouth the past few years. At least they are staying in Canada. But they mize well be in Lake Placid for me it’s closer.
Dally Mac - I couldn’t agree more being only 2.5 hours away. I’ll miss the trip over to Moncton with my kids to see my fav. team. Saskatoon is a little too far to drive up for a Saturday.
Would it help if we all started writing letters to the TOH? The Lighthouse project needs to be approved for us to keep the greatest sport ever here on the island. Caps ok! Pens maybe! But I still want my New York Islanders!
@ken: You better get your tent permit in to Kate Murray now….
we lost dubie to columbus on waivers…we stink.
I love the pre game accolades for Tamby having five hits Ddo you really consider those bumps hits? Am I to applaud a guy FIGHTING for a job on a hump team with 2 goals in a zillion games for throwing his puny body around? Tamby is a kid on a mans ice…he sucks. I would smile ear to ear if he was cut.
