THE LIGHTHOUSE WRITINGS OF NICK CLASSIC
Visit his indy blog on the Coliseum issue

Independent Lighthouse Project advocate and Point Blank reader Nick Classic has started his own blog, Let There Be Lighthouse. While my ramblings tend to be more surface - Kate’s in over her head, Billy Joel doesn’t play there, Type A free agents won’t sign up for the current facility - you can count on Nick for details, details, details that you won’t get here.

Add Let There Be Lighthouse to your lineup. He’s also the best source for petitions and upcoming meetings while I’m trying to track down prospects in Sarnia. According to his bio, Nick is a 20-something resident of the Town of Hempstead. I can confirm he is not an employee of the Islanders, Rexcorp, the Lighthouse Development Group or any company associated with the project. Just a guy who cares a lot.

Best of luck to Nick. Comments.

Great read by Nick, he hits the nail on the head. It is amazing how Long Island has a tendency to do things half assed as we can see just by looking at the Nassau Coliseum. The arean is almost 20 years past its prime. The Lighthouse is a neccesity to the Island, it is either all or none and Wang is 100% spot on by rejecting Kate Murray’s insulting offer.

wow did not know about the original plan. can you imagine a 10,000 arena!?!?! can you imagine how great it would have been if it were 20,000 with transpertation right there. that would have been something else. good read

the islanders should make lighthouse rally towels. it would look great and people would really get into it on saturday 2/21 Town of hempstead night.

Great for Nick, Congrats and Good Luck!
Now Back to Hockey, thank God!
CB, i heard somebody say on this site that you said, the Islanders might not pick or pass on Tavares? Can you clear this up?
Also on the Fan Mike stressed that Tavares said he did not want to play for the Islanders? Could this be why they might pass on him? Is this all rumor? please say it is!

Old story. My interview with Mike can be heard on wfan.com…CB

thats an awsome idea ken. kinda like terrible towels but for a better cause. i always thought they should give out towels like they do in plqayoffs. that would be much but maybe sell them for a dollar. maybe give them out every first game of the new month and after that you sell them for a dollar.

Paul, it’s probably the best news we can hear that Francessa said the Isles were leaving and that Tavares wouldn’t play for us.

    He is always wrong.

Nick, best of luck with your blog. Like Kevin, I too had no idea of the original plan years ago. I will visit the site regularly to insure I am always up to date on the CORRECT information with regard to this project.
Thanks to CB for letting us know.

*also, it won’t let me comment, Nick. Probably just me being somewhat computer illiterate but thought I’d let you know just in case.

don’t pay any attention to francesca. he thinks he knows a lot more than he does. i believe at one point chris said that tavares will play for whoever drafted him. good for nick, i look forward to reading his blog. he knows his stuff.

And if your wondering why The isles chose to play in KC:

Both LA and NYI will be paid around $200,000 to play in the game as well as split the gate receipts.

nice. Then they may only lose 19.8 mill next season. And the games sold out in a matter of minutes. Wish I had a passport.

Old Story! The draft did not even happen yet Tavares is never an old story!
I heard the interview on the Fan however 2 things you need to be clearer on.
1)Did you say the islanders might pass on him..
2)You said Tavares never said to you he would not play for the Islander, However did he ever say it to anybody else? Francessa did say he heard it?
Look i am not trying to be a pain in the A** however when the Islanders are buried int the bottom of the NHL this kind of stuff is notan old story and you might just have some new readers here as well.

What is getting to be an Old Story is this LightHouse stuff, when we did not even get close to July’s approval date as of yet.

  14. 14 Paul*

Just one more thing, Mike said to you on the Fan that Tax payer money was going into the Project and you said Yes “very Little” well how much is very little in Dollar terms?

Unless the perception of Charles Wang as a money grubbing land grabber is changed the residents of the Town Of Hempstead will not put any pressure on their elected officials to get this thing done. Articles like Nick’s should wallpaper the town, and continue to be printed in every newspaper from Newsday on down to the smallest community paper. The people of Long Island have been conditioned to look at things like this in the most negatively of lights.

And BTW, don’t put ANY credence in what that pompous windbag Francesa says. His hockey knowledge could fit on the head of a pin. I guarantee he never heard of Tavares until 5 minutes before that interview.

Whatever money the county or town needs to put into the property, please note this: the only development that is not going to cost them anything — the county in particular — is an empty lot. There is no developer out there who would come in and invest a dime in anything, be it the Lighthouse, McMansions or malls, if there weren’t county investment in sewers, roads, and so on. The only thing that is cost-free for the county is a wrecking ball and a fence around it.

Thanks for putting up Nick’s Light House website CB … Nick has done some great research into the LHP and is making sure that others get accurate information. As you know in your business half iced information can be more dangerous than no information.

Thanks for the plug, CB. It’s very much appreciated - I’m sure your web server will thank you whenever you write about the Lighthouse again!

For those of you who can’t comment - let me look into that, and I’ll post something on the blog when I know a solid answer.

There’s no doubt in my mind that Francessa heard that from one of his rag fan producers 5 minutes before he spouted it on the air. They probably thought it would be funny and after all there is no way to catch them in their lie. At this point there is nothing in the hockey world that francessa is gonna know before us. 10 years ago before the media world evolved, maybe, not today. If anything I think talking about it is the worst thing that can happen because if it gains enouggh momentum as a rumor it won’t matter that a raggie francessa lackie started the whole thing when people are shoving mics in JT’s face come june about it. He never said it. Period. If he did we’d know because we have no lives and are obsessed with the boy. LOL.
