Do you know there is an existing spur off the Hempstead line starting east of Garden City? It's used (I think) for the circus, so it extends to just north of the Coliseum. That seems to mean that it can be extended to the Coliseum through Mitchell Field without arousing the NIMBY issues. It appears to be non-3rd rail, so a light rail should work. I live in Brooklyn and use the LIRR/LI Bus (and local car services) to get to/from games.
