Canada is down 5-4 right now with 1:14 left (Canadian net is empty)

  2. avatar 18 says:

Canada ties it up with 5.4 left in the 3rd.

  3. avatar Nick says:

WHOA….What a play by Tavares, bad play by that Russian who iced the puck, and what a game this is turning out to be.

  4. avatar Paul says:

    Good Eveing!
It is great to Here Jiggs on the broadcast it brings back memory’s of when we used to win. They should bring back Eddie westfal for a game the would be cool.
What else can you say about Wyne gretzky what a classy guy; Congrats to Dougie Weight!

  5. avatar Darthziggy says:

Good thing we have the WJC game to watch in lieu of a pregame show tonight, huh?
Sorry CB, no more badmouthing, only constructive comments :) I’m ready for the Up All Night festivities.

  6. avatar admin says:

Islanders 4th round draft pick David Ullstrom going to the final for Sweden and with a goal today in the semi…CB

  7. avatar Devon says:

If we’re starting with the UAN coverage here, I’ll bite.

What, CB, could we expect to get for Witt if we look to shop him at the deadline?

  8. avatar admin says:

no pre-game when the team goes West. I noticed the Rangers didn’t have one either on their recent trip. At least we got Butchie, Dano and the Jordache dude…CB

  9. avatar Devon says:

My man-love for DiBenedetto looks like it was justified, he’s putting up crazy stats without the help of Stamkos. Any chance he makes the jump to the Isles sooner than we could expect?

  10. avatar Darthziggy says:

Fair enough, Chris. Thanks for the info!

  11. avatar admin says:

The day Brendan was critical, I told a “high-ranking Islanders official” that San Jose set the market by getting 2 second round picks for Craig Rivet, a good vet dman also under contract for decent dough for two more years…CB

  12. avatar Devon says:

Do you see Witt getting dealt for that price, or at all for that matter? How has the locker room dealt with the comments? Is Witt still looked at as a leader?

  13. avatar Nick says:

Will anyone else feel cheated if this Russia/Canada game doesn’t go to a shootout?

  14. avatar Chickendirt says:

    Lets go Islanders!!!!

I’d love to see Bailey, Okposo, Bergenheim and Tambellini get a few more points against this team. Good test for them tonight!!!

  15. avatar Darthziggy says:

I’d be much happier if someone scores in the final minute of overtime than if it goes to a shootout, but either way this is a fantastic finish. Has there been more than one or two whistles through the entire ot?

  16. avatar MSA says:

Hey CB, Happy New Year, and thanks for going live…

Who left practice last, JMac or DP?

  17. avatar admin says:

I would take it very easy with DiBo. Don’t you think if he was a slam dunk, the Islanders website would have a story a week on him tearing it up? I’m told by people I trust that, when it comes to the NHL, he is an okay prospect. He did not make my top 10. You always root for kids like that, but keep perspective…CB

  18. avatar deweyfromnfld says:

Great site Mr. Botta, you do a great job keeping it real, no silly rumors like other sites. You think there is any doubt about Tavares going #1 after his performance here in the WJC? He has been nothing but amazing for us in the tourny. (Canada I mean)

  19. avatar Cain says:

It would be great for the WJ game to go to a shootout and the future Islander to score the game winner. ;)

Chris, what are your triggers as a GM for trading or re-signing our potential UFA’s or tradable assets at the deadline?

  20. avatar Devon says:

Where are you people watching these games?

  21. avatar Isles5 says:

Hello CB from SW Florida. Did you see Sid’s cheap act today? Do you think the league will suspend him?

  22. avatar Cody says:

Hey Botta, longtime reader, first time, uh, commenter?

Anyway, everyone seems to love the idea of selling all our veterans at the deadline, but the unfortunate reality is that the more we sell, the closer we get to going under the cap floor. Do you see us potentially acquiring another team’s overpriced castaways? How would they fit into the current team’s dynamic?

  23. avatar admin says:

Joey Mac is starting…I think Brendan could be dealt for the right price. You think he’s a fit with what they’re trying to do now? Nice touch by Ron Duguay complimenting NYI for making Weight feel wanted…CB

  24. avatar Potvin says:

Stan Fishler the Maven–CB, your thoughts on Stan? He’s almost always on the devils broadcasts and his “analysis” hardly points to a wealth of knowledge(which im sure he has)

  25. avatar Nick says:

Devon – NHL Network is carrying the WJC if you get it.

  26. avatar Chickendirt says:

I read a little something about DiBenedetto and Martin on HockeyFutures. Not sure if it’s been updated but I think I recall them projecting those two as third liners at best. DiBenedetto is an over ager playing Juiniors. I think he’s about 20 right now.

Maybe the projections change and they have a lot to do with them playing along side Stamkos.

    Interesting debate there though.

  27. avatar Darthziggy says:

I have it on the NHL Network via DirecTV. I believe it’s on TSN in Canada.

  28. avatar walter says:

    shoot out time

  29. avatar admin says:

anyone calls me Botta going forward, I ignore…The cap floor will not be a problem as we move closer to the trade deadline. Very little left on contracts.

I did not see Sidney’s thing today. Tell me about it. I do predict Michel Therrien does not see February.

I am watching the game in my den in RVC, LI, NY…CB

  30. avatar deweyfromnfld says:

Anyone know is Jordan Eberle was drafted last year?

  31. avatar Darthziggy says:

Re: The Sid thing – According to Don Cherry’s analysis, Sid was getting bullied early in the game and no one was standing up for him (no one there on Pitt these days to do anything about it anyway). I did see the “incident” live, though, and Sid dropped the gloves before the puck hit the ice on a faceoff, mugged the Florida player, pulled his jersey over his head, and basically wrestled him down to the ice (couldn’t even get a decent punch off). He got 5 for fighting, 2 for instigating, 2 for unsportsmanlike, and 10 min misconduct.

  32. avatar Nick says:

    Yes, 22nd overall by Edmonton

  33. avatar Isles5 says:

Right at the face off he blind sided Brett Maclean. He just jumped him and started pounding on him. He got 21 mins worth of penalties. Real cheap.

  34. avatar admin says:

dewey: Tavares will go No. 1, unless some team dying for the next Denis Potvin/Nick Lidstrom gets the pick. Tavares has nudged past Hedman.

Stan Fischler is fine. He does what he does and does it well. Always very kind to me. He’s been a Devils regular for a long time now, although I know he’d love to do more games at the Coli…CB

  35. avatar Chickendirt says:

    BTW;

Greetings from beautiful sunny and warm Boston!!!!!

  36. avatar Chickendirt says:

Any chance we get more Jiggs this season!!!!

    I miss that guy.

  37. avatar admin says:

Nah, Sid won’t get suspended. The NHL will probably make another commercial out of it…CB

  38. avatar Devon says:

CB, how good of a fit could Victor Hedman even be in our system? I love the idea of a Chris Pronger, but it seems Gordon would prefer a Neidermeier type.

  39. avatar Nick says:

Just watched it on YouTube. I would say Crosby is acting like a whiny baby, but I can’t….I will however indict the NHL for getting it into his head that he’s above the law. He’s become more of a whiner and a dirty player since the NHL started treating him like the golden child.

  40. avatar Will C says:

CB, Do you think it’s interesting the we complain about talent not wanting to come to LI, yet we have a star goalie who can’t get enough and wants to impact every game and we complain about that too! Yes he should be platooned and rested up for next year, but control the fire in him, let’s not put it out and hold it against him!

  41. avatar admin says:

Jiggs has a few games left subbing for Howie. With the NYI out of it, maybe they’ll bring him back for the last week when the Mets get started at Citi. I predict this season or next could be Jiggsie’s last subbing. Shocked me today on the radio show when he said he was 70. Despite his harrowing Bangkok experience, he would like to see more of the world…CB

  42. avatar Macch says:

With Neilsen coming back soon the center position is getting crowded again. Do you think a trade is coming and do you think its wise the isles hold on to Comrie considering the way hes been playing with Okposo and Comeau??

  43. avatar BrassBonanza says:

The shootout formula is TERRIBLE in this tournament setting, Let’m play it out!!!

  44. avatar Darthziggy says:

Haha good call about Sid – it’ll be in his highlight reel when they introduce him at the All-Star game. And in the spirit of semi-introductions, howdy all from lovely Scranton, PA.

  45. avatar Chris A says:

Doesn’t Sid get an auto suspension for the penalty or is that just for a match penalty

  46. avatar HilbertSnipe says:

Crosbys fight was almost as pathetic as Semin’s versus Staal tonight. Both are up at hockeyfights.com and youtube. PLEASE, anyone who has not seen them and is in dire need of a laugh, please watch all of the above. Crosby vs. Mclean… Semin vs. Staal.

They make Mike Comrie look like Tie Domi.

  47. avatar kevin says:

few things regarding striet: who will have more pts at the end of the year or before weight gets traded, streit or weight? will streit finish with most pts for dmen? if he gets the most pts, will he get the norris? my dad says no and i agree since we will come in last. ill ask and talk more later but want to pace myself.

  48. avatar Joe says:

Any chance of Rechlicz getting the call with Fritz gone?

  49. avatar Devon says:

Joe, Joel Rechlicz was easily the nicest guy at Islanders prospect camp. Signed for everyone, chatted, he was great. Just an aside.

  50. avatar Chickendirt says:

Maybe Jiggsy’s gone all “Bilbo Baggins” on us!!

  51. avatar deweyfromnfld says:

Thanks for the answers Chris and Nick.

  52. avatar admin says:

Streit will not get the Norris. If the Islanders end up 25th or worse, he will not be a finalist. If they are both healthy, Weight will have more points than Streit before the trade deadline. I’m just making this crap up as I go along. What the hell do I know? CB

  53. avatar Cain says:

    Repeat: ;)

CB, sir, please, what are your triggers as a GM for trading or re-signing our potential UFA’s or tradable assets at the deadline?

Me? Unless they are blown away, I see them re-signing Comrie, Guerin and Weight.

Sim is traded or bought out.
Hilbert is re-signed, if decent, or a kid brought in his place (more likely in my view.)
If Sillinger is healthy before the deadline (I know, I know) – he is traded for a conditional to a very definite contender – more as a respectful favor than anything.
Jackman is re-signed for a one-way, one year deal.
If there isn’t a great deal for Witt, he stays too.

  54. avatar Potvin says:

i am nostalgic for jiggs, ed and stan.
When Isles were on VS, the talked about fighting be up this year. CB, would you have Fritz up? Would you have spent for a Brash, Godard etc..?

  55. avatar Devon says:

Why do people think we need an “enforcer” when Tim Jackman is more than eager to drop the gloves?

  56. avatar admin says:

Cain: I’ll be writing a lot more about that as the weeks go on. It’s not even worth getting into guys like Sim, Jackman or Andy. Sadly, Sillinger is not an option.

It comes down to the big guys like MC, Guerin, Weight and Witt, and Garth is not doing his job if he doesn’t seriously consider everything and anything…CB

  57. avatar Cain says:

    Thank you. ;)

  58. avatar mjlisles says:

CB, since the islanders will need to take on some money at the deadline to stay above the cap floor, who do you think would be a good idea to go after. i like randy jones. hes 26 and plays with an edge and the flyers need to shave some cap. and snow and holmgren have a solid relationship. thoughts?

  59. avatar Chickendirt says:

This draft is supposed to be as deep and talented as last years. If I’m Snow I try to get the best return on as I can on some of the older players.

    Witt

    Weight

    Guerin

    Comrie

    Sutton

    Martinek

and as good as he’s been, even Streit.

  60. avatar Devon says:

Anyone else craving some Taco Bell?

  61. avatar Neil says:

Hi CB!, Any update on our throwback third uniform getting promoted to full-time status (with a white version to match)? I hate our current orange-sleeved pyjamas.

  62. avatar admin says:

Let’s agree to skip the enforcer discussion for another day! LOL…You know we’ll never get off it.

Joel Rechlicz is not close to being a serious prospect yet. Time will tell if he ever will.

If there is a no-brainer heavyweight UFA who can take a semi-regular shift, I would expect the Islanders to make a big offer. If…CB

  63. avatar Jon #2 says:

Chris, do you know the deal with Garth Snow’s contract? How many years left? How much is he paid?

  64. avatar Devon says:

Well, CB, Wade Belak was pretty close, he was on waivers, and Garth failed to claim him.

  65. avatar jon says:

Let’s not sell Streit as Norris d-man just yet. Let’s see if he can keep this pace, at 25 mins/night, for an entire season.

  66. avatar Darthziggy says:

I’d really hate to see Martinek gone. He’s like Kenny Jonsson in my mind – the quiet d-man who doesn’t get much respect, and unfortunately goes through some struggles with injuries, but when called upon, he’s one of the toughest players against the other guys’ top lines every night. And I want him rewarded with some playoff time just as KJ was (and yes, I know Martinek was here for the last few trips, but that didn’t really count).

  67. avatar Potvin says:

    Taco bell? You drunk?
Jaqckman is a middleweight–why cant the islanders be the big bad team?

  68. avatar Macch says:

Well they have the bad part down Potvin lol

  69. avatar jimmy says:

CB, what vets do you think the Islanders should keep around inorder to be a mentor for all the young kids? If any?

  70. avatar walter says:

time to hand the sharks their first regulation loss

  71. avatar GasMD says:

    Hey CB,
Do you get as enraged as we do when Milbury is on TV spewing his usual verbal diarrhea?

  72. avatar admin says:

Neil: I have an idea how much Garth gets paid. His contract has not been made public. Since that’s info from my previous life, I will not go there.

What I can tell you is that it’s simply a non-issue. It’s not like ownership is thinking they will or not let him go into the last year of his deal. He’s going to be GM for a while.

mjlisles: as mentioned, cap floor not a problem with each passing day. Don’t know about Randy Jones, but yes, can definitely see Snow and Holmgren helping each other out…CB

  73. avatar JC Frank says:

    Game time.

Is it just me, or is it like everyone knows the Sharks will jump themselves come playoff time (again).

Tonight, lets see if I need to stay up for the third, I’ll take that.

  74. avatar kevin says:

haha streit? are you serious? sorry not here to judge in this article especially since on hockeybuzz you have the best avatar =) CB, will the isles go after an enforcer in the off-season or trade deadline or will they stick with fritz? i like jackman but i also like heavys or middle weights like jackman that are smaller and can play better. carcillo for ex. were not going to get him but ppl love him in the desert. will we draft a tough guy or look to rechliz in the future…..

  75. avatar John says:

No one will stand up for Sid until he leaves Mario’s basement, gets a place of his own, and his old man stops creeping around Penguins practices on the teams dime. That’s what old friend Mike Milbury said during the hot stove segment on hockey night in Canada during second intermission. And Al Strachan agreed with Milbury.

  76. avatar Pat says:

Chris, what do you think of the MSG Hockey Night Live show? I don’t think Hockey Night in Canada should be scared – but – I think its a show that has a lot of things you can do with it. I do enjoy each of Butchie, Ron Duguay and Ken Daneyko. I think that they could tell it a bit more “like it is” much like the way Mike Milbury does on HNIC….but I do think they are a good team of analysts…..

I think the show does a decent job in trying not to be “Ranger Centric” – but would welcome a penny for your thoughts on this. I am sure that there are plenty of problems ( ratings, cost to produce) but I do hope that they develop this show, and bring along some other talent as part of the show.

    Pat

  77. avatar Devon says:

CB, I just want to get your opinion on Loudville. I’ve sat there probably a half-dozen times and think it’s a great promotion.

  78. avatar admin says:

GasMD: no. Shoot, Matt Millen was on TV today. They are entitled to work.

Jimmy: I like them all, actually, but Snow has to look at this as a hard business. Guerin and Weight have been great, but I don’t know if you can hold on to them…CB

  79. avatar jon from nj says:

Should I even watch this game tonight, or is it going to be a 9-2 Pitt-like drubbing?

  80. avatar walter says:

    doesn’t guerin have a nmc???

  81. avatar GasMD says:

Geez, watching Matt Millen was PAINFUL. Couldn’t even look up at some points of the interview.

  82. avatar admin says:

Pat: “Hockey Night Live” is a good watch. Shoot, they let me on the air at 1050 ESPN so I’ll take any hockey on TV. Funny thing about HNL: they said it was going off the air, but now it apparently isn’t.

Loudville’s good stuff. Occasionally you hear it gets rowdy and profane, but I’m sure that never happens, right? LOL…CB

  83. avatar Macch says:

    FIRE SALE!!!!!!

  84. avatar mjlisles says:

CB, do you think the islanders should see what the market is out there for J-Mac?? A lot of playoff teams could use a solid backup like him.

  85. avatar Ed says:

Good Evening from Philadelphia. I’m watching the game on the center ice package with the SJ broadcast. Nice to see them pay tribute to Weight.

  86. avatar Macch says:

    Everything must go!!!!!!! lol

  87. avatar admin says:

Matt Millen was in the studio with Costas on NBC today.

Okay, with game starting, I’m taking 15 minutes to rest my arthritis. Keep ‘em coming and I’ll be back in a bit…CB

  88. avatar glenn says:

    hey chris.

    1) great to hear about dougie wanting to stay on long island…If you were GM, would you give him an extension or would you deal him closer to the deadline?
    2) Bailey started off with 4 pts in first 9 games…only 6 points in his next 16. Looking back, do you still think it was a wise moving keeping him here and not sending him to juniors (I agree with you about the WJC).
    3) what do you think about tamby since he’s been back?

  89. avatar Devon says:

If Guerin is traded at the deadline, who becomes the next captain? I for one would love to see Park wear the ‘C’.

  90. avatar MT says:

i didn’t know that about the sharks coach playing for us

  91. avatar jon from nj says:

CB, is it me, or does Campoli seem to have regressed somewhat this year? I was expecting some big things out of him, especially in this system. However, despite some game-tying/winning goals, he looks lost defensively.

  92. avatar kevin says:

cb, why do teams compare hedman to potvin and pronger even though scouting reports say he is soft even though he is big. maybe you can tell me more about this. and is it weird that tavares is getting compared to bossy and hedman is compared to potvin?

  93. avatar Neil says:

Sorry, my question was on the third uniforms.
I’m real curious to see Hedman vs. Tavares Monday. The Canadian media is really cheerleading for JT and I understand he would garner more attention and excitement, but I think Hedman is still the more unique player.

  94. avatar Darthziggy says:

Weird fact for everyone (just to keep the mood light): Richard Park’s first NHL game was way back in 96 during the playoffs, the game in which Petr Nedved (then with the Penguins) beat the Caps in the 4th overtime.

  95. avatar jon from nj says:

    this may get bad…

  96. avatar Potvin says:

Kevin–if the Isles get one more softie, ill eat all of taco bell

  97. avatar Darthziggy says:

Sorry for the randomness of that – I saw the post about wanting Park to get the C, but I was a little slow on the posting. My bad.

  98. avatar walter says:

sharks are a well oiled machine

  99. avatar Isles5 says:

San Jose announcers are crushing the Isles

  100. avatar kevin says:

    1. it looks like they are on the pk
    2.this team is HUGE
    3. i predict some fights today, anybody else thinking that too?

  101. avatar kevin says:

we are on pk my bust

  102. avatar Darthziggy says:

Isles5 and Ed, what’re they saying? If they had that pretty analyst lady from the pre-game doing play by play I’d be watching that broadcast, but seeing as her job is mostly done for the night, I’m going to stick with Jiggs and Billy.

  103. avatar Doug F. says:

CB, any chance of getting Ryan Jankowski who runs the Islanders draft to do something like this prior to the NHL draft…Doug

  104. avatar Chickendirt says:

Sharks are swarming but I have a feeling Joey Mac is gonna drive these guys nuts tonight.

  105. avatar Devon says:

See, I told you Jackman was fine.

  106. avatar Ed says:

They’re just pointing out the obvious. 30th in the league, they give up a lot of goals…..etc

  107. avatar Isles5 says:

Basically telling the facts. Last in this, last in that, no offense and they even mention how 15 was a big scorer in the AHL but not here.

  108. avatar Darthziggy says:

Yeah Chickendirt, JMac looks sharp so far, definitely ready to play.
Here’s a fun question – anyone else sporting a jersey for some support tonight? I’m rocking the old blue wave-style from 97-98 (with the “real” crest).

  109. avatar jimmy says:

does anyone else feel like Jackman fights alawys involve no punches thrown?

  110. avatar Devon says:

If I had a jersey, I would be wearing in, Zig. I asked my dad for “Isles-related gifts” for Chanukah, and I got a pair of pajama pants and tickets to a game in March. That makes sense…

  111. avatar kevin says:

oo snap i called the fight part lol. pretty bad fight. win jackman becuase he threw 2 and the great white threw none

  112. avatar admin says:

you could tell Todd McLellan (I knew him when he was an NYI prospect) was working the bench hard to not have a letdown against the 30th place gritty-gutties.

Glenn: I would let the Weight thing play out all the way to the first week in March. I’ll never let up about Bailey missing out on the WJC. Tambellini has been noticeably better on the ice and looser off the ice.

mjisles: absolutely, the NYI must be all ears if there is interest in JMac. He’s UFA after this season. The NYI are in no frickin’ position to not at least listen to offers for anything short of Okposo, Bailey and their first pick in 09.

Geez, wouldn’t that be something if Ottawa ended up with Tavares or Hedman.

Neil: I know the Islanders WANT to go to the throwback unis. I don’t know if the NHL deadline already passed to get it done for next season. If not, I’d think it would be the season after that. Me, I’d wear the jerseys they won Cup in – but y’all know that.

jon from NJ: Campoli – and he would admit this – has been average at best. All of the dmen except Streit have had their struggles with the, ya know…

doug F: the problem with having someone like Ryan on pre-draft is that he can’t say crap. So it would be just avoiding questions.

The Sharks announcers are doing their jobs: filling in the home fans on their opponent.

    CB

  113. avatar Darthziggy says:

Seems fair enough about the SJ broadcast. Their announcers are pretty spot on usually. If I’m up this late during the week I’ll generally try to catch their game. Man I love the Center Ice package.

  114. avatar dp says:

Looks like its going to be a LONG night for JMAC

  115. avatar Isles5 says:

    Islanders PJ’s?

  116. avatar JC Frank says:

SJ looks like a team with 60+ points who hasn’t played in 3 nights. Lets hope it settles down, maybe the fight did that.

  117. avatar kevin says:

chicken dirt, im wearing the new throwback. okposo

  118. avatar Devon says:

Yup. They would be great if they had some damn pockets.

  119. avatar Devon says:

CB, ever visit the Isles forum at HFBoards?

  120. avatar Ed says:

Hey Chris, Just wanted to say that you do a great job with this blog. I even have some of my Rangers and Flyers fan friends reading it.

  121. avatar glenn says:

    chris,
has comeau played his way onto your list for definite roster spot on the 2009-2010 team?

  122. avatar Strummer's Army says:

    Botta Bing:
Jackman just got man-handled by a Russian (not really known for their enforcers) and that guy is no enforcer, so enforcer discussion is back on. Isles need one and Snow has been neglegent since he took his position in not providing one (don’t say he signed Simon because that solved nothing).

What are the chances of them getting a really good middle weight (and player) like Bieksa (for Witt and/or something) and then Dustin Byfuglien, who is huge, has 16 pts in 32 games and a very good hitter (this team is lacking hitters) and fighter? Certainly Chicago will have plenty of interest in the Isles vets as would Van as they make themselves better for the playoffs.

Gotta get that Tavares the kid is gonna be a major star and steps up at the crucial moments.

  123. avatar Darthziggy says:

I have to save up for one of the new third jerseys. I kinda wanted one from the 1972 night with the orange numbers, but I think this year’s version would work just as well. Haven’t gotten a new addition to the collection in far too long, though.

  124. avatar kevin says:

no way van parts wit bieska

  125. avatar JC Frank says:

Man, as much as I like Howie, I love hearing Jigs do the game, its so down home. I’m a better fan because I grew up with Jigs, and then Gene Heart in Philly when I went to college.

  126. avatar kevin says:

and that russian is 20 pnds bigger and 3 inches bigger.

  127. avatar Chickendirt says:

I’ve been wondering this since the last Islanders/Rangers game. In the final twenty second of that game the Rangers purposely shot the puck on bench about three times.

Isn’t there a rule about purposly doing that being a delay of game?

I know over the last few years they changed the rule where if you chuck the puck clearly over the glass in your own end it’s automatic.

I recall before that there being a rule but with more of a greay area. Mainly it was ruled by “intent” I believe.

  128. avatar jon from nj says:

No offense to joey mac, but we’ve seen this before…good for 1-2 periods…then, eventually the floodgates open up because he just keeps getting bombarded. its only a matter of time. this entire period has been in the isles zone.

  129. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Kevin, they were willing to part with him all summer long. Their new GM even admitted it live on TV during the draft. It could be the guy smartenend up but the price the (I think he even said it)was a 4th rounder.

  130. avatar JMG says:

Is it me or does Bailey lose every face off he takes???

  131. avatar Isles5 says:

Got an authentic throw back 1983 jersey with Potvin on it. Took a ride to the Isles/Cats game and met Denis and had him sign it. He was great and loved the sweater. It’s hanging up in my spare room with the other Isles stuff.
If you’re getting a jersey go throwback.

  132. avatar Ed says:

The Sharks broadcast just showed an image showing the some of the longest contracts in sports. They showed pics of how DP has a longer contract than McNabb, ARod, and Jeter.

  133. avatar Darthziggy says:

Hey Devon, it’s not just underwear, it’s fun to wear! HAHA. Good stuff. I used to have a pair of the old Zubaz Isles splatter paint pants.

And by “used to” I clearly mean that I still do, I just don’t wear them anymore.

As much as I used to.

  134. avatar Devon says:

1-0. Just a matter of time.

  135. avatar jon from nj says:

    As I spoke…

  136. avatar admin says:

Devon: only fan site I lurk at is Imania. Lisa does an amazing job finding all the articles so I always check in.

I think it’s obvious I’ve been one of Comeau’s biggest champions. But no, I don’t know how anyone can say a third-liner who was kept in Bport for the first quarter of the season is a lock for next season. Should he be? Sure. But that wasn’t the angle of that article.

Strummer: I adore you, but you really gotta let it go with Bieksa and Byfugs. I wrote that the NYI should and probably will have to write a check for a skating heavyweight UFA.

  137. avatar kevin says:

but his value is up and he is playing well.

  138. avatar Josh says:

I’m trying to decide… Who is better defensively? Pock, Bergeron, or a traffic cone.

  139. avatar Pete M says:

Geez, this is like men against boys.

  140. avatar Steve C. says:

Great pass from behind the net….lots of shots on Joey Mac….Witt and Meyer looked a liitle slow out there…come on No. 1 pick in 09 Draft!

  141. avatar admin says:

hey, Joey Mac needed the work…CB

  142. avatar jimmy says:

josh im taking the traffic cone every time

  143. avatar Doug F. says:

CB, I was watching the Swedan-Slovakia game this afternoon and I thought Magnus Svensson-Paajarvi was more impressive than Hedman. Hedman seemed soft. He got pushed into his own goal by a Tatar who is half his size…

  144. avatar Nick says:

    SHOTS! (Someone said MAB)

We look pretty over-matched so far. Good thing I didn’t spend New Years in San Fran and go to this game (which was my original plan).

  145. avatar Isles5 says:

    Holy Weight!

  146. avatar Steve C. says:

    Go Dougie Weight!

  147. avatar Devon says:

    Dougie Weight does it all!

  148. avatar Pete M says:

    Wow Doug Weight!

  149. avatar admin says:

Okay, so it looks like we got more than 2 or 3 people here tonight. Thanks, everyone. Did we seriously all commit to doing this all night?

Who needs a heavy, Strummer, when you got Weight? CB

  150. avatar Devon says:

I got nothing better to do, CB. Only thing on my agenda for tomorrow is “watch TV”

  151. avatar Pete M says:

Looks like Streit got a penalty for getting hit in the back of the head

  152. avatar Devon says:

They gave Streit a penalty? Are you f’ing kidding me?

  153. avatar Darthziggy says:

Nick, as outmatched as we may be, I would have loved to go to a game out in San Jose, especially an Isles game. I’ve seen them play in 5 road arenas (3 if you don’t think that MSG and the old CAA are away games), and I’d love to be able to get to more.

  154. avatar Steve C. says:

CB, maybe you should work on the attendance for the Coli….we got a good crowd here tonight….that’s why you the P.R. Master!

  155. avatar glenn says:

    hey chris,
any news on a viewing party out in suffolk county? maybe dave and busters?

  156. avatar Isles5 says:

1030 Tee Time in the AM

  157. avatar kevin says:

    GO DOUG WEIGHT!

  158. avatar Ed says:

I was wondering if anyone else besides me watched a couple of hockey games today and didn’t watch a minute of the NFL playoffs.

  159. avatar Nick says:

Well Darth my quasi-girlfriend lives in San Fran so I wish I was there too.

  160. avatar Darthziggy says:

Haha CB didn’t know what you were getting into, huh? I’m pumped that this many people are still up watching the game.

  161. avatar Devon says:

    Good break for the NYI

  162. avatar Patrick says:

    gotta love Dougie Weight

  163. avatar Chickendirt says:

There was a Football Game played today?

    Who knew?

  164. avatar Nick says:

Except she DID say she’d have to root for the Sharks…And yes, good break for us.

Does it amuse anyone else that about half the NHL plays the Dropkick Murphys’ “I’m Shippin’ Up to Boston” before a power play?

  165. avatar Darthziggy says:

Ah sorry to hear that Nick.
And Ed, while I did flip back and forth to the Cards/Falcons game for a bit (though I can’t really understand why, what a bore), I’ve spent most of my day watching the Bruins-Sabres, Pens-Panthers, WJC, Leafs-Sens, Rangers-Caps, and that Captains show on NHL Network (the one on Lidstrom).

  166. avatar Josh says:

The HP Pavilion in SJ is a great building, probably my favorite. It is small and intimate, unlike pretty much every new building, and the sightlines are as good as at the Coliseum.

CB, care to share your favorite NHL arena?

  167. avatar kevin says:

hey what is the capacity in the shark tank?

  168. avatar Chickendirt says:

How does Streit no Knock Michalek on his keister there.

  169. avatar Ed says:

Well done Darthziggy. That’s what I like to hear.

  170. The Sharks are a perfect example of why I’m tired of hearing about how we’re “doomed” if we don’t draft Tavares or Hedman and/or tank for the next five years. Not that I don’t want either of those guys but none of the guys SJ has developed internally up front besides Marleau were drafted in the top five.

Time to start drafting better with the picks we HAVE rather than obsessing over drafting in the top five for the next five years.

This team needs to start finding some diamonds in the rough in the fourth and fifth rounds like the San Joses, Detroits and New Jerseys of the world. Maybe then this franchise will start making some headway.

  171. avatar Chris A says:

Penalty shot in LA for the Flyers

  172. avatar UIF says:

Ha, Weight was certainly no pushover in that fight.

  173. avatar Larry says:

ed, i watch just about one minute of the cards-falcons game, but all of the canada-russia game. hockeys more entertaining

  174. avatar Nick says:

SoS, that brings up a very interesting point.

CB – this may have to be its own article, but the Isles seem to have really expanded their scouting capabilities in the last few years. Do you have any insight on the strides they’ve made?

Darth – are you more sorry that I’m not in San Fran or that she’d root for the Sharks? HA!

  175. avatar slotchie says:

CBotts, what’s your take on the Isles radio team? I’m sure they’re nice guys, but they’re not the greatest. I don’t understand why the color guy can’t be a former player. Mears “goal” call always seems flat and forced.

  176. avatar Isles5 says:

    Missed the Penalty shot

  177. avatar admin says:

JMG: I said to Sillinger the other day that he really has to work with Bailey on faceoffs. Even if he doesn’t play again, he will.

ED: thanks for the very kind Comment.

    What’s a quasi-girlfriend?

Josh: favorite NHL arena is Minnesota. Also love the atmosphere in Montreal and, as a native NYer, never get tired of going to the Garden…CB

  178. avatar Chris A says:

    And Scottie Hartnell misses it

  179. avatar Doug F. says:

good points made Scissons…there was player on Cnada named Cormier who was a scrapper…scored a goal today…drafted in the 2nd round by NJ

  180. avatar Steve C. says:

    At first, I thought a quasi-girlfriend was a GF in a wheelchair…then I read it again.

  181. avatar kevin says:

whats the most comments in articles? this could eb a record!!!

  182. avatar Jack L says:

Ed this is my third hockey game of the day and I’ve not watched any football.

  183. avatar Nick says:

Well CB it’s hard to have an actual relationship with someone who moved across the country, so it’s a term I invented to make myself feel better.

  184. avatar Devon says:

My RA at Penn State went to the same high school as Mears, a few years apart. According to him, his real name is “Mearsabeggi” [I can't spell] and is a huge Pens fan.

  185. avatar Darthziggy says:

Montreal was insane. I was there on a Thursday, when the Isles weren’t that good (surprise!) and before Montreal was on their rise to the top as they are now. Good game – Montreal won 3-2 I believe – but the place was packed. As much as I love the NVMC (it’s always #1, don’t worry), seeing all those banners in one place was a bit scary (in Montreal).

  186. avatar slotchie says:

CBotts, one more question: do you think that the team ever recovered from trading the Mighty Oleg? I know he was busy when he was on the Islanders working for world peace and trying to find the cure for various diseases, but I really feel that this team has been cursed since they traded the man with the flowing golden locks.

  187. avatar Walygz says:

CB, since everyone is already thinking about next year and all the UFA’s that we might not have any chance at, what about the RFA’s ? I can’t get the idea out of my head that Phil Kessel could be had for a big offer. Boston does not have alot of room, and they have to resign Thomas. He’s 22 and would not hurt the rebuild, even if we have to give up a 10′ first round pick. Love the blog !

  188. avatar admin says:

slotchie: after a former Islander has made a few million, he’s not going to want to do Islanders radio. That’s about as blunt as I can put it. And besides, Chris King brings more info to one broadcast than an ex-player would in 20. Steve Mears is a good young prospect who will only get better.

Nick: the scouting staff is larger and has a wider reach today than it ever has. It has had a radical makeover in the last 2-3 years…CB

  189. avatar JMG says:

Hey Chris….. how do you think Gordon has done w/ handling the media in his first couple of months as coach?

  190. avatar Ed says:

Gotta love hockey fans. Every other sport takes the back seat.

I wonder if Cheechoo will ever regain his scoring touch

  191. avatar Chickendirt says:

    Shades of BU Mike Greir.

Where the hell has that guy been!!!

  192. avatar ChocolateGuy says:

Rough goal, but SJ’s style is what I kind of think Gordon is looking for. They are go, go, go, go…

  193. avatar Strummer's Army says:

    Botta Bing:
just knowing you care eases the pain (just a little) of not having enough toughness on this team!:)

Proud of Dougie for so many reasons.

On the Jersey thing, the retro’s are better but I still think the Isles could do better and should.

Crap, SJ just scored again. Who’s gonna be the first person on the site to have a #91 Tavares jersey made up?

  194. avatar Pete M says:

    Nice rush by Bergie

  195. avatar Steve C. says:

16th shot of the period…kind of a weak goal. But off of Comeau, so what can you do….now does he go back in Gordon’s doghouse? Will that be Scotty’s excuse?

  196. avatar UIF says:

If he only had a good shot…

Nice moves, Bergy – keep it up.

  197. avatar Doug F. says:

CB…I thought Kessel (from BU) was a free agent and it wouldn’t cost any picks…

  198. avatar kevin says:

oiy! 2-0 nice move by bergie.phil kessel will be getting an offer from edm. and burke will laugh his buttocks off. we wont take him or krejci

  199. avatar walter says:

    strummer gotta win the lottery

  200. avatar Chickendirt says:

I know Bergie takes some bad penalties at times but I love having that guy on my team.

I think he’s the bees knees. One of the more under rated young guys we have.

  201. avatar Justin says:

Has there ever been a surer thing than the Isles losing this game?

  202. avatar Nick says:

Thanks for the info, CB. That will help the Islanders more than a Tavares or Hedman ever could…The whole key, especially with the game becoming increasingly global, is the reach of your scouting staff.

I also just finished Malcolm Gladwell’s new book Outliers, where he talks partially about hockey players having an advantage being born at the beginning of the year. What do people think about his idea of splitting development leagues into early-year births and late-year births to help players’ development and, hopefully, increase the pool of talent? That could really help the NHL if they ever decide to expand again.

  203. avatar Josh says:

Strummer: I planned on getting a Tavares Isles jersey, that was until I would out I couldn’t return the Filatov Isles jersey. ;)

  204. avatar Nick says:

    Doug – that’s Matt Gilroy.

Speaking of which, Gilroy scored tonight for BU against Denver. Rakhshani has the lone goal for Denver.

  205. avatar kevin says:

    HA im the big 2-0-0

  206. avatar admin says:

Walgz: the Islanders will not sign a major RFA. They are not in a position to give up 3 first round picks.

JMG: Scott has had his struggles with the Islanders’ massive media corps, but he’ll get better. No biggie there, at least not yet.

this is what it’s come to: I just got a text that Aaron Ness scored a little while ago for U. of Minnesota…CB

  207. avatar Jethro from Finland says:

    Greetings from Finland!

Nice blog you have here Mr.Botta and yes, you have loyal readers up here too.

It’s already 6:12am here so the “up all night” thing might be a bit too much from this side of the pond i’m afraid, but y’all keep your spirits high and I’ll read how it all went down tomorrow.

So far we seem to be lacking a decent offense once again, but of course the opponent tonight(this morning) isn’t a “rebuilding” franchise like some others I know.

Here’s for the future, good fight good night and let’s go Isles!

  208. avatar Larry says:

i love bergie too, hes got some great moves to get around defensemen, but it always seems that he cant finish….would love it if he started finishin those chances…

  209. Tough period to watch! Rink tilted towards the islander goal. To add insult to injury a good cycle started by Kyle Okposo ends as Mike Comrie loses an edge.

It’s interesting to watch how the San Jose forcheck is exactly what the Islander should be doing. The forwards are all over the Islander defensemen. Forcing a lot of turn overs.

Hopefully, the defense has a better second period.

  210. avatar Nick says:

Bergy will be something special when he plays with some more control and his hands catch up to his legs.

  211. avatar Darthziggy says:

I really wish the Isles had white versions of the third jersey – it’d be fantastic to see them wear them in Edmonton on Monday with the Oilers wearing their throwbacks (which they’re sporting tonight, hence my comment, not just more nonsensical rambling).

  212. avatar GasMD says:

CB, would u ever work for the Rangers/MSG if the money/situation was right?

  213. avatar Pete M says:

I may have missed it, did Weight ever come back to the bench?

  214. avatar Trent says:

    Cb,
How good can Okposo be? It seems like in the last couple of weeks he has really flipped a switch and is becoming quite a force, especially in his physicality. I’ve been really impressed so far.

  215. In regards to Sean Bergenheim:

He has great moves. And I remember reading Teemu Selanne mentioning how good of a player he thinks Bergenheim will be if given time to develop.

    I agree.

Even during his rookie season I remember a highlight reel move that he made. This season he has been making many of them. He just has to get the finishing touch which I think he’ll get with time. He needs to realize that he’s not a full time grinder. I think he may have realized that after being scratched. Maybe he was sat down and told that more is expected of him. A nice kick in the but. Maybe CB can comment as he has more of an inside scoop on what was said to him during his one game scratch.

  216. avatar Doug F. says:

CB, I was thinking of Matt Gilroy of BU…he’s seems to be a good prospect…he’s also from North Bellmore…

  217. avatar Nick says:

Gilroy is a great defenseman who has size and good skating ability. I would LOVE to see him on the Isles’ blueline for many years to come.

  218. avatar Nick says:

I might also create a voodoo doll of David Poile, hoping he panics and trades us Colin Wilson for Weight, Guerin, and one of our extra 3rd rounders.

  219. avatar Strummer's Army says:

SJ announcer just made a brilliant plan. Scrap the all-star game and have it built into the winter classic. Young stars game on Christmas Eve, All-star game on Christmas Day and then the classic or a few classic games. I’m not sure about the Christmas Eve timing. I’m usually running around the mall in Steve Webb fashion throwing bone crunching hits on Dad’s doing their last minute shopping and women who like to spread out (so ya can’t get around them) and walk slow. Then annual Christmas Eve party. Overall the plan is good with fine tuning.

  220. avatar kevin says:

he went to the locekr room pete

  221. avatar Chickendirt says:

I recall during Bergie’s rookie year listening to Esposito offer glowing comments about him. He felt that the people who scouted him were absolutely nuts claiming this guy was a third liner at best.

Espo felt he had at least the speed to be a second liner. I think the only thing holding Bergie back is that he needs to prove he can finish off plays.

He’s like Blake was in that he does a wonderful job creating his own opportunities.

  222. avatar Devon says:

How has Hillen been progressing in Bridgeport?

  223. avatar JC Frank says:

They should just scrap the All Star game, how can you have an all star game without Alex O as a starter?

  224. avatar Pete M says:

Knew that. Was wondering if he came back before the period ended.

  225. avatar kevin says:

they should stop voting and have the gms pick and then have it based in skill if you have more then one rep

  226. avatar Walygz says:

CB, 3 first rounders ? OUCH…I didn’t realize the price was that steep. I thought the Ducks got Penner for a first, second, and third, but obviously I was wrong.

At least the idea is now out of my head.

Thanks and keep up the good work !

I lost the remote battle with the woman after that second goal, so I’ll have the watch the rest of the game on the DVR tomorrow. Good luck boys

  227. avatar Darthziggy says:

Haha Strummer I can just picture Steve Webb – in full gear – smashing moms and dads into department store windows trying to get to the perfect presents. Good image.

  228. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Devon not sure on Hillen overall (since I don’t see the games but if you check the box he is picking up a lot of points and most of the articles that mentions him are positive.

Botta: What is the latest feedback on Joseneau?

  229. avatar hextall72 says:

hey CB, if we land tavares for arguements sake, we would still need to beef up a bit.. where do we start after tavares? F.A?

  230. avatar Steve C. says:

With the way the All-Star voting went, and the year Streit is having, he would be starting the All-Star Game.

  231. avatar admin says:

Thanks so much for joining us, Jethro from Finland.

Devon: your info on Mearsie is correct. Although now that he’s in his 20s and left Pitt years ago, I’m sure he’s an NYI fan, too.

GasMD: I would work for any team in any sport in the right situation.

I like Sean Bergenheim and believe he can be a very good players for the NYI or his next NHL team. I don’t think his hockey sense is strong enough for him to be an A-level player.

Hillen is doing okay. You might see him after the deadline.

I believe the NYI have a decent shot at Gilroy…CB

  232. avatar kevin says:

yeah wow. will we hit 300 comments?

  233. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Darth, happens every Christmas Eve since I can’t seem to get myself to do much shopping before then. 2 years ago it got especially physical! (think Tor series):)

  234. avatar kevin says:

i hope we get gilroy. and bozak (sp)

  235. avatar Pat says:

I would think about combining the All Star game with the Winter Classic if in a perfect world – the Stanley Cup Champions could host an outdoor game against the All Star Team.

Would have to be New Year’s Day.

The NBA has claimed Christmas Day.

The NCAA has vacated Jan 01 due to BCS game being nearly a week later.

The NHL should continue with this format – and seeing how it likely cannot do the all star game, they should continue to do a Jan 01 game.

Perhaps Ovechkin’s Capitals could be an opponent for Boston or someone else.

I would want the Isles to be more competitive before NYI v NYR at Citi/Yankee Stadium.

They talk about this on CBC’s Hotstove Report with Ron McLean, Al Strachan and Pierre LeBrun with Mike Milbury. Good listen on HNIC’s website

  236. avatar Josh says:

Chris: Do you think that Joensuu gets called up for a couple games at the end of the season depending on the number of vets dealt?

  237. avatar TuxTax says:

Men against boys in this game huh? Size does matter(skill helps) :( Whats the deal with Joensuu, are we gonna see him in an Islander uniform after the current team will be in l’hopital later this season?

  238. avatar walter says:

they should do three games on Jan 1st a game on the east coast with 2 US teams, a game with two canadian teams going at it, and a game on the west coast game

  239. avatar TuxTax says:

josh got the question in there before me

  240. avatar Josh says:

Also, Chris, did you ever receive further clarification as to why Garth was kicking around Europe?

  241. avatar Darthziggy says:

Wow, Strummer, that’s some intense shopping. I hope you don’t go Eric Cairns (also re: Toronto series) on anybody, though. That’s just wrong.

  242. avatar Strummer's Army says:

    Botta;
You mentioned the Isles should have a good shot at Gilroy but what about Bozak?
I would think if they trade Weight and/or Comrie they’ll have a better shot because he’ll think he can rack up big minutes.
The negative he’ll look at is we will probably have a clear shot at Tavares by that point and he might not like it.

  243. avatar Brian from Massapequa says:

CB et al, can someone tell me why Weight went to the fressing room after his fight. I was at a bar with no volume, home now, but have not heard news

  244. avatar Devon says:

CB, what do you think of the Blog Box?

  245. avatar Pete M says:

    Some actual offensive pressure

  246. avatar Strummer's Army says:

    Darth:
I almost had to go Eric Cairns on a couple of sorority girls at couple years back but they didn’t want to drop their (isotoner) gloves.:) Still they got the message. lol

  247. avatar Steve C. says:

CB, any idea what former Isles goalies Tommy Soderstrom, Eric Fichaud, Mark Fitzpatrick and Tommy Salo are doing today? I think Salo has a restaurant in Sweden. Loved Soderstrom’s birdcage mask.

  248. avatar Priest says:

I had a really good question the other day that I wanted to ask you, but now it has slipped my mind, so I’ll ask you this instead. Not really Islanders related, but I was just curious about your opinion of the shootout and overtime.

I’ll give mine first: Its been 2.5 (3.5?) years, and I still can’t get used to it. I honestly thought I would get used to it, and maybe even grow to like it, but if anything it gets worse every time I see one. I was at an OHL game that went to a shootout last season, sitting front row on the goalline, and it was the most boring 5 minutes of “hockey” I’ve ever seen. I would’ve left to beat the traffic but a friend was playing in the game and I thought he might get to shoot. It just seemed so gimmicky.

  249. avatar Darthziggy says:

Oh, and Strummer, I know you joined a little later than some, but Chris politely informed us that he would not be responding to queries addressed to “Botta”, so you may want to rephrase some of your posts.

  250. avatar admin says:

Strummer: after a slowish start, Jesse now doing a bit better than expected in his first year of pro. Won’t be here this year. At least another season away.

I consider Bozak signing with the NYI a major longshot, unlike Gilroy.

hex 72: Not only do the Islanders have to come in last overall, but they have to win the lottery to get Tavares. I just can’t get into hypotheticals right now about what happens after Tav, as I’m sure you’d agree.

No way Bettman approves more than one outdoor game a year in the U.S., and probably just one a year in the whole league…CB

  251. avatar Chickendirt says:

I think Joensuu is supposed to be a bit of a project player from what I’ve read about him. Lots of folks think he’s about two years away from sniffing NHL ice (This season included).

  252. avatar Darthziggy says:

Wow, Tommy Soderstrom. Poor guy was never the same after his gear got stolen following the win over the Rangers. = (

  253. avatar walter says:

any chance we could rig the lottery like the knicks did with ewing???

  254. avatar Devon says:

CB, do you think ESPN will ever televise NHL games again?

  255. avatar Steve C. says:

    Nice stop Joey Mac….

  256. avatar Nick says:

If the Rags didn’t get the Crotch Puncher in the 05 draft, there will be no rigging here.

  257. avatar Pete M says:

Or the NHL did with Crosby and Pittsburg?

  258. avatar Doug F. says:

If the Isles don’t get Taveras…I’d pick Magnus Svensson-Paajarvi…he looks impressive…

  259. avatar Josh says:

Of course, Joensuu is still a couple years off. But, I’ve had a Pierre McGuire Man Crush on him since the year prior to his draft (Figren, as well). I’m still shocked he fell to the Isles where he did.

  260. avatar Nick says:

Pete, it could have been rigged, but count me among the conspiracy theorists CONVINCED the Rags would win.

  261. avatar JC Frank says:

I still think if the leafs are in the lottery, they will have the frozen envelope.

Joey Mac is playing well tonight, and another great play by Park to negate the penalty. CB, does Park have trade value? I would think a contending team would want his work.

  262. avatar Devon says:

Is there a reason that the “powers that be” seem to hate the Isles? With us losing the outdoor game, to Colin Campbell’s ridiculous penalties, to Nassau County’s continuous ineptitude in the Lighthouse Project…why does this stuff seem to always happen to us.

  263. avatar walter says:

    these guys are good

  264. avatar Pete M says:

Not with Lemiuex threatening to sell and or move the Penguins

  265. avatar Steve C. says:

    What a great shot….

  266. avatar Josh says:

CB: Any chance if Weight, Guerin, Witt, etc. are gone next season that Bailey or Okposo are named captain?

  267. avatar JC Frank says:

    I don’t think I’m making it to the 3ed

  268. avatar Darthziggy says:

You want more fuel to the “the league hates us” fire? How about the fact that the season opening game has been on the road something like 30 out of 35 times? (someone feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but I know it’s close to that number.) That’s just not right.

  269. avatar Pete M says:

Did I hear that right? The Islanders have only 6 shots almost half way through this game?

  270. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Horrible decesion by Campoli on the last goal. Not only doesn’t he go over and move Thorton out of Mac’s way but he made the screen worse then it was. Gotta get some physical defense guys. Currently the weakest spot on the team.

Big ups to Jethro from Finland!

  271. avatar guerin13 says:

and that should be game. we have to do another one of these when the isles face a team they have a better chance to beat. you would have to think that sj are the favs right now to win it all. chris, you said that tavares will probably go first. does that mean that snow will def pick tavares if we select first? i hope so. he would create so much excitement.

  272. avatar jimmy says:

speaking of the lighthouse, honestly is it ever going to get done or are we dooomed?

  273. avatar cody says:

CB when is the earliest we will see Figren. And are there any colin wilson types in this upcoming draft.

  274. avatar admin says:

Yes, ESPN will get hockey again in about two seasons.

I was in Hartford with Tommy Soderstrom when the NYI equip staff was trying to tape him together with decent padding.

Steve C: last I heard from my boy Fitzy, he was winning amateur tennis tournaments in Florida. And I used to beat him!

Josh: my hunch was Garth was just visiting Petrov to let him know he cared about him even though he may not be in NA for a few years. Smart move by the GM if I’m right.

Doug Weight came off the ice because his PIMs exceeded the time left on the clock…CB

  275. avatar JC Frank says:

CB — Any idea when we’ll see Nielsen?

  276. avatar Pete M says:

Thanks CB, I was afraid he was hurt

  277. avatar Nick says:

CB, I hope you’re right about Snow/Petrov, but I also hope he managed to pay Roman Wick a visit too.

By the way, is Garth at the WJC right now? I’ve seen shots of many NHL GM’s there, but not him.

  278. avatar admin says:

Actually, darthziggy, that’s a reach. Bill Torrey requested of the league to start on the road for about 15 years.

Plan right now is for Figren to go to Bport next season. Not ready for NHL, not at all…CB

  279. avatar kevin says:

wow, chris with some humor. HEY-O

  280. avatar Chickendirt says:

In regards to the outdoor game thing.

I don’t think the league hates us as much as Bettmen is the worst commissioner in any pro sports league. If we include Jersey we’ve seen the stanley cup come through this area eight times in the last thirty years.

The NHL has a tough time still selling this sport here?

Bettmen should be pulling all the stops to get us an outdoor Isles Rangers game here. Thankisgiving or Xmas eve would be a great date for it.

And it should be AN ANNUAL tradition.

That would sell huge here and DEFINITLY get the NHL a ton of attention here.

  281. avatar Darthziggy says:

I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m up for another round of this when they play in Edmonton on Monday. I had some vacation days to kill, so I’m off work til Wednesday, plus I think it’ll be a much more entertaining game than tonight’s one-sided affair. And it’s always great seeing a fast-moving game on that amazing Edmonton ice.

  282. avatar kevin says:

wow nice play by okposo as this line continues to be our best line

  283. avatar Darthziggy says:

Wow, CB, didn’t know that bit of trivia – any particular reason why Torrey requested that? Seems strange, but I’m glat that at least there’s an explanation for it.

  284. avatar Chickendirt says:

    WOW!!!

Okposo is starting to get real confident with the puck. He looks like a guy who can control a game right there.

Been a long time we’ve had a guy that can do that.

    Turgeon anyone?

  285. avatar kevin says:

they have 28 shots to our 6. can you say tavares?

  286. avatar admin says:

Aaron Ness tonight named MVP of the Dodge Holiday Classic, so the Islanders have that going for them, which is nice…CB

  287. avatar Chris A says:

How about a winter classic doubleheader a game during the twilight hours may be fun to watch.

  288. avatar mm30 says:

Hello everyone!little late to the dance but this is men amongst boys tonight but Joey Mac really deserves an extension IMO.

CB, just curious what the perception of Garth is as a GM among the people you speak with throughout the league.

  289. avatar kevin says:

    that arena looks bad-ass

  290. avatar Devon says:

Could the ice surface handle it, Chris?

  291. avatar dalcy says:

Tavares centering Okposo would be sweet. Okposo continues to impress

  292. avatar Devon says:

    Great play by Campoli!

  293. avatar Netminder39 says:

    CB:

Is there anybody in the Bridge who could play next year?

  294. avatar kevin says:

in a few years maybe we can have their home record ;)

  295. avatar Nick says:

I think Winter Classic cross-promotion is a must. If Fenway Park hosts the Classic next year, they should have BU and BC play after the big event (which to me has to be Bruins/Canadiens).

  296. avatar Devon says:

CB, I hate to ask this question, but is there any chance that Richard Park gets dealt?

  297. avatar kevin says:

hey CB do you think it is possible we will make a splash in the FA this year?or is it as likely as us scoring this game?

  298. avatar Devon says:

    Kevin gets #200 and #300!

  299. avatar kevin says:

scratch the second part of that question becuase we are starting to get some chances. o and i am mister 300

  300. avatar kevin says:

    iknow i feel so special

  301. avatar Shoogah says:

PB Up All Night is definately more entertaining than this game. Does anyone really care about the game anymore?

  302. avatar AM says:

CB, Thanks for doing this. Great to hear by your account that the NHL will be back on ESPN soon. Need NHL2Nite back badly.

AFter tonight’s loss, How does Tom Renney’s job status look?

  303. avatar mrlbem says:

    CB,

Some folks here have pointed out over the past few days that while the Islanders are offensively challenged, the defense corps may be a bigger problem. Do you see any of them a lock to be here next year other than Streit?

Also to those of you lucky enough to be watching the WJC, is Ulstrom the Islander prospect who’s standing out the most?

  304. avatar beatlebailey says:

    Hey CB:
This was a great idea. You may have already answered this somewhere but who were the islander players that you most enjoyed working with over the years? Any of the current players? Thanks.

  305. avatar admin says:

mm30: perception of Snow with other GMs is non-issue. They are a strange band to begin with. Garth fits right in.

On a serious note, I know he won a lot of respect from the group last year for speaking openly and honestly from a goaltender’s perspective about the goalie equipment issue. When I was with the team, an opposing GM (old friend) called me and said, “Your boy Snowy won a ton of respect today.”

  306. avatar Nick says:

Another great deflection from KO – his stick control is a big plus in his game.

  307. avatar kjh0517 says:

Ive been stuck at a meatless wedding and this may have been asked, but is it ok to hope for an Islander loss???? The 2nd goal against team USA was a thing of beauty, be nice to have Tavares as our franchise center, but that means wishing for an Islander loss, tell me it ok to do that CB!! Time to read 280 comments, looks like up all night was a hit!

  308. avatar guerin13 says:

man this is an awful game. random question but any chance that the lighthouse secondary logo returns at some point? that was a cool logo.

  309. avatar JMG says:

I dont know why anyone would want to trade Park. I doubt he would get much of a return back and hes signed to a GREAT contract. IMO it would be foolish to trade someone like Park during the rebuild. Hes just the type of veteren guys you need. Just my opinion.

  310. avatar Devon says:

    God, I love Richard Park!

  311. avatar MT says:

    atta boy parkie

  312. avatar JC Frank says:

Hey, we scored. A Park Trick!

  313. avatar guerin13 says:

park, woo hoo, i love that guy!!! finally something to cheer about.

  314. avatar kjh0517 says:

PS, please keep Park during the rebuild!

  315. avatar mm30 says:

    man I love Richard Park!

  316. avatar Justin says:

I don’t see why a team like Detroit or San Jose wouldn’t take a chance on acquiring Richard Park. The guy pretty much does everything well.

  317. avatar Nick says:

I would try to have it as a 3rd jersey once the project comes through (and I think it will definitely get done, though don’t be surprised if we have to wait 1 more year to get the work to begin in earnest) – maybe a lighthouse inside a circle like the Blues’ new (awesome) 3rd?

    Great job Park.

  318. avatar admin says:

beatlebailey: I have a long list of favorites. I’ll start with Bob Bassen and Steve Konroyd, who went out of their way to be so nice to me when I first got into the biz. On the current team there are plenty. But it starts with the guy who just scored, Richard Park…CB

  319. avatar Devon says:

JMG, that’s the exact reason why any other GM would love to have him. He’s by far my favorite Islander, and I’d be heartbroken if he left, hell, I think he should be our next captain, but I can easily see why any coach or GM would love Park on his roster.

  320. avatar Chickendirt says:

Since when did Richard Park become Sneaky Pete?

  321. avatar gazaroog says:

    Hey CB,
With the limited ice time for both Robin Figren and Krill Petrov for their respective teams, any talk of Isles and their respective agents on getting them to LI before season end?

And do you think Isles can get a 1st rounder for Weight if they group it with one of their 3 2nd rounders? Perhaps to a team in the west on the bubble?

  322. avatar kevin says:

park with a goal and hits it out of mid-air i think . streit keeps his lead in a race for most pts against boyle

  323. avatar jimmy says:

    parkeyyyyy i hope he stays

  324. avatar Josh says:

I was really surprised the Isles went after 5-7 Spurgeon and 5-9 Ness in the draft. It’s the “new NHL” but, there are only a few sub-5’10 d-men I can think of. Rafalski and Boullion come to mind.

  325. avatar Nick says:

CB – forget the transfer agreement for a minute. Do you think Russia’s lack of a junior league hurts your average Russian prospect like Petrov more than anything else? A lot of those guys simply don’t get the kind of minutes as their counterparts in other countries.

  326. avatar walter says:

    we got one

  327. avatar Darthziggy says:

Yeah, Kevin, I’m pretty sure he tapped that one out of the air as it was about to fall to Nabby’s side. Tavares-like skill! hahaha

  328. avatar kevin says:

i was thinking about tavares. oo and okposo almost makes it a one goal game

  329. avatar Darthziggy says:

Hey, I got the closest to a James Bond timestamp as I’m likely to get =D

  330. avatar Devon says:

Islanders getting GREAT chances here, maybe we steal one.

  331. avatar Shoogah says:

Richard Park needs to be signed long term. He needs to be treated as a cornerstone of this team. The guy never quits! Anyone know how to produce clones?

  332. avatar Pete M says:

    How did he get that?

  333. avatar TuxTax says:

When Marti comes back what defenseman sits?

  334. avatar Nick says:

I’m with you Pete – how in God’s name did Nabokov get that?

  335. avatar JMG says:

Devon….. i def agree w/ you 100% but I would think his value is much greater to the islanders rebuild in their point of view over the return they might get back from another team. Dont think it would be worth trading him.

  336. avatar kevin says:

    what a save by nabokov

  337. avatar Josh says:

    It better be Pock.

  338. avatar Jim says:

CB, any chance we can get a profile/article on Ryan Jankowski and/or the rest of the scouting staff? Pierre McGuire gave Ryan J. some props after Ullstrom scored. I believe he said Ryan J. has done an amazing job drafting European prospects.

  339. avatar Darthziggy says:

Shoogah – talk to the cloners on Kamino (sorry, SW nerd).
TuxTax – probably gonna be Pock. Not much reason for him to be here other than filler at this point.

  340. avatar Pete M says:

They will sit Pock for a game until Martinek gets hurt again

  341. avatar admin says:

there was some talk with the Yankees-Boston game at the old Yankee Stadium that the league might try to “appease” the NYI and NJD by having them in the opening game.

Bowtie Bill was real big on the boys starting the year with 3 ex games and then 3 real games all out West so they could bond.

netminder 39: good question. I wouldn’t consider anyone currently at the Bridge as a frontrunner for regular duty next season.

mrlbem: you are correct, sir. Only Streit is a dead solid lock for next season.

I don’t think lighthouse secondary logo ever returns. I know a lot of people like it, but it’s still associated with some bad-ass stuff.

hi Gaz. I don’t think Figren will be here til next year. Petrov is likely 2-3 years away, but the fate of the KHL could change all that…CB

  342. avatar Chickendirt says:

Can someone send Campolli a plate of pasta or something. That guy needs some meat on his bones.

He gets pushed around way to easily sometimes. Another fifteen pounds and that boy is good to go.

  343. avatar admin says:

kinda funny how my typos are getting worse and worse with each hour…CB

  344. avatar Pete M says:

I’m sure Torrey didn’t mind getting a west coast trip out of the way early either

  345. avatar guerin13 says:

that was one hell of a save by nabakov on weight. highlight reel material. isles came to life the last 10 minutes or so.

  346. avatar mm30 says:

CB- What is the org’s feelings on the more seasoned college properties…Rogers, Day, Mason, Guthrie, Sims.

Also congrats on a great site, seriously if you feel you need contributions to continue your fine work I will be first in line…keep up the outstanding work!

  347. avatar Josh says:

Jim: Jankowski was based in Prague for a few years as a European scout, so he knows the European leagues better than pretty much any Assistant GM/Head Scout in the league.

  348. What do you think the chances are that Doug Weight would come back if he were traded at the deadline this year?

I know it is unethical and violates the CBA for him to say anything about it, but it would be really nice for the team to get something for him for just 1/4 of the season and then get him back. He could even go for a cup run somewhere in the twilight of his career.

  349. avatar Brian G says:

CB – Has Garth Snow even thought about giving Joey Mac a contract extention? At least 1 year for 725 sounds about right…

  350. avatar Darthziggy says:

Thanks for the info CB. Definitely makes sense, as lots of teams/coaches praise early season road trips as “bonding experiences” for the team. Certainly seemed to help the boys back in 2000-2001. Maybe I’ll stop complaining and start hoping for a season-opening road trip from now on, rather than an opener in NJ and then a home game the next night.

  351. avatar Josh says:

Hiring Ryan might have been the best thing that MM did for this team.

  352. avatar isles316 says:

Chicken, I was thinking the same thing on the 3rd Sharks goal. He made no attempt or was unable to even budge Thornton. I think it needs to be addressed, the smaller defensemen the Isles seem to always draft. They all get pushed around too much.

  353. avatar deweyfromnfld says:

anyone else on here live in Alberta? just wondering if more fellow fans will be at the games this week, perhaps enjoy a beverage before. Joeymac is standing on his head.

  354. avatar TuxTax says:

Was that a Cheech and Chong commercial? I just ran to the fridge to grab a Brooklyn Lager, I guess CB is doing the same with his typos!!!

  355. avatar Doug F. says:

CB, You mentioned the “fate of the KHL could change all that”..is the league in trouble do to the financial crisis?

  356. avatar guerin13 says:

real shame to hear that about the lighthouse logo. it’s guilty by assocation with the fisherman. it was the only thing right about the jersey. it just ain’t right. it would seem to make sense that it would return with the lighthouse project.

  357. avatar kevin says:

i like devs vs isles rivalry as much as the rags becuase of recent years. lots of fights and the ‘dubie poke’ brings back good memorys but i think it should be isles vs rags @ either citi/ yank
or devs vs isles at giants stadium. then have the rags vs like boston at fenway or yank stadium and then have the battle at pennsylvania with the flyes and penguins

  358. avatar dalcy says:

    any Hubie McDonough stories Chris.

  359. avatar Travelchic59 says:

Very impressed with the amount of posters who stayed up this late to watch the game and hang with you, CB.

  360. avatar Brian G says:

The last 3 or 4 games has really showed the Ises lack of size – This is something that has to be addressed for the 09-10 Islanders

  361. avatar Doug F. says:

    Edmonton-Dallas game on NHL Network…

  362. avatar Shoogah says:

Ha! Awesome, Darthziggy! So do I place an order with them? Like maybe 3 6’2″ Richard Parks and a couple more 5’11″ Richard Parks?

  363. avatar Jethro from Finland says:

Might as well poke one more comment in before going to bed, since there’s talk about some fellow Finns.

Bergenheim: never going to be a solid 20-30 goal guy, might put in a good goal scoring season or two playing with a solid 30 goal scorer on the other wing and a quality playmaker playing center (hopefully the future drafts will bring those or chemistry with Bailey, Okposo/Comeau will develope) much like Brad Isbister, Mark Parrish and Jason Blake did before, although the first two play a whole different style of hockey, but Bergie has qualities that will be useful in the right forward line too. Niklas Hagman plays somewhat similar type of game and he had one good goal scoring year against all the odds, but I’m not sure that will happen this year in Toronto. Hopefully Bergenheim doesn’t peak just before UFA-status like for example Blake and Hagman.

Jesse Joensuu: pretty much the same story, but with different qualities than Bergenheim. Joensuu-???-Bergenheim might be a useful 3rd line 2 years from now. If Jesse gets more speed and can use his physicality more, he and Sean could form a pretty succesful checking line with some goal scoring threat. I’m surprised about his recent development in Bridgeport, so maybe there is NHL-quality there, but next year will tell if he’s ready for the next step or not.

As a Finnish point of view Jyri Niemi looks like the most potential of the possible future Finns on the Island. He has played pretty decently in a defensively piss poor Finnish junior team in the world champs, but of course he’s still young.

Still all these three are just small pieces in the puzzle and hopefully this years draft will bring a couple of big pieces in the mix and obviously if you need help in breaking the ground for the Lighthouse I have a pair of working hands a shovel too…

  364. avatar SIR WILLIAM says:

Chris, I am not sold on Comeau as everyone else here seems to be. His defensive play is horrible as witnessed by another minus tonight. Doesn’t anyone on the coaching staff work with these kids in regard to defensive positioning?
I watch Comeau closely and he seems to just stand and watch in his own end. He never comes out to cover his point and rarely goes below the face off dot in his own end.
Defense wins games. Is this Gordon’s problem with Comeau?…Sir William

  365. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Seriously the small D issue has to be fixed. Out of all the small Isles prospects on defense only Ness seems to be a certainty. Kohn, Katic, Spurgen (add in the rest of the names here) all seem like extreme longshots. If Snow needs to sweaten the pot in any deals I’d be FINE with him adding any of those guys except Ness and the two larger more certain guys in Neimi and Harmonic.

From listening to other teams announcers you’d think Park is a guy almost any team would want but you have to look at what they’d pay for him. If it is a 3rd round pick or less I don’t feel it is worth it. I’d rather just have him playing here and representing the vets. A 2nd and you’d have to take it or a legit prospect.

  366. avatar Darthziggy says:

Yes! Islanders – as CB and Logan reported, Weight has actually said already that he would not want to do a situation like you proposed, which he did in St. Louis/Carolina a few years back.
dalcy – Hubie! I don’t know if anyone else remembers this, but I still have a life-sized poster of Hubie that was a giveaway at the Coliseum waaaaaay back when. Great stuff.
And kevin, I think if the Devs are ever involved in an outdoor game, it’d be against the Flyers (decent) or the Rangers (which would be tragic, meaning there probably wouldn’t be an Isles-Rangers outdoor game). I’d say NYI-NYR, NJD-PHI, BOS-MTL, TOR-OTT would all be great matchups, and avoid repeat customers this early on in the “tradition”.

  367. avatar gazaroog says:

    DougF,
Yes. The KHL is in major trouble which is no surprise. Attendance is horrible and they don’t have the financial stability for any type of sustainability. Not to mention the heat on them from the Cherapanov death, is not helping matters for exposing how poorly run and rinky dink the league is. I’m wondering if Jagr comes back next year for a final tour of the NHL.

  368. avatar admin says:

Nick: yes, the quicker you can get your top-end prospects out of Russia, generally speaking the better. But keep in mind, if the reports are true, Petrov is making a million bucks this year.

mm30: thanks for the offer. As for the prospects you list in post 350, I would say no. Hopefully one of their buddies reads this and it motivates them to stardom!

Jim (Post 342) most pro teams in sports don’t like to cooperate on anything other than candy-ass website features on their scout guys because they won’t want people to see behind the curtain. But Ryan’s good people and good at what he does.

dalcy: what I remember about Hubie McDonough is I think of him when GMs say, “You don’t make a trade for the sake of making a trade.” Well, I call BS on that. The Islanders made a minor move getting Hubie and Bomber Baumgartner and then lost like once in the next month…CB

  369. avatar ken says:

    Ulstrom looks pretty good

  370. avatar TuxTax says:

Comeau’s Minus was because of his skate more than anything else, he is a lot better than Tambellini who is obviously afraid of the puck

  371. avatar Jim says:

Sir William, I completely agree. Comeau is lost in his own end, he has a bad habit of standing next to the guy that scores.

  372. avatar Dan from Westchester says:

CB – this is definitely a treat to see everyone “up all night here”. . after an 8 hour road trip back from hockey crazy Toronto. .

Everyone – and I mean EVERYONE is buzzing about the juniors and one Mr. Tavares up there. Even overheard a few Ottawa Senators at breakfast in our hotel this AM discussing the kid.

Well – at least if we’re gonna have a horrible season – seems like is the ideal time to do it. Tavares is a stud – NEED to see him on L. Island next fall.

  373. avatar isles316 says:

I feel like the Isles want to continue to draft smaller puck moving d-men. It just rarely works out. Since 2001-2002 the Isles have been small on D and were pushed around even when making the playoffs those seasons. Remember DP and Snow getting mauled constantly? Campoli looks like me trying to move Thornton and I can’t even skate well.

  374. avatar ChocolateGuy says:

Completely out of left field, I searched and apologize if this has been asked and answered, but is the guy Eberle from Team Canada in the draft or property of a team?

  375. avatar admin says:

If there is another Point Blank Night, it will most likely have to be with one of my local establishments whose owners have offered to make it nice again. I haven’t gotten any offers from Suffolk that would match it. Last thing I want to do is have it somewhere where we don’t get any free crap and people are looking to put on a Mets spring training game…CB

  376. avatar ken says:

eberle = edmonton oilers, i believe.

  377. avatar Jim says:

CB, I’ll take a candy ass feature. I don’t know anything about the guy. Although, maybe it’s best we don’t publicize him.

  378. So we’re in between periods…i guess I’ll talk about something that’s been interesting me over the past few weeks:

    #1 Pick is Steve Stamkos
In the last round of the draft the Islander pick up Justin Dibenedetto, Steve Stamkos line mate (I think the Islanders picked the other winger along the way too)…

Dibenedetto is close to the pace he set with Stamkos in the line up….what does that say about this kid? Maybe Stamkos isn’t the dominating #1 overall pick everyone thought he’d be.

I know i’m asking the question….Seen Stamkos? (only 14 points so far…and for those keeping track..Josh Bailey with 10 with around 10 less games)

  379. avatar Doug F. says:

    Gazaroog thanks for the info…

  380. avatar SIR WILLIAM says:

TT, Tambellini has nothing to do with Comeau playing defense…Sir William

  381. avatar Jim says:

I’m impressed… didn’t think everybody would be here.

Just got home from a Football Party.

Feeling pretty good… typing with one eye…lol.

    Go Isles.. Good Night.

  382. avatar Brian G says:

If the Isles happen to not get the 1st or 2nd pick what direction will the Isles go? Jordan Schroeder?

  383. avatar isles316 says:

Tampa Bay is 10-18-10. Something majorly wrong with that picture.

  384. avatar kevin says:

    haha ken from sayville

  385. avatar dalcy says:

thanks for the reply Chris and i remember that trade and it was a good move, he became a bit of a folk hero for a month. well at least in hicksville.

  386. avatar Nick says:

With the price of oil plummeting and the fall-out from the Cherepanov tragedy, is the KHL in as much trouble as some in the hockey press have led us to believe?

  387. avatar Doug F. says:

CB…going to bed…thanks for doing this tonight…hope you do it again…

  388. avatar SIR WILLIAM says:

Chris, No answer to the Comeau question? All of Oceanside wants to know……SW

  389. avatar Nick says:

I like Schroeder, but he’s 5’8. That makes me a bit uncomfortable since I know they need to get bigger up front…however, I’m all about drafting the best player, regardless of position or size.

  390. avatar Brian G says:

CB – Do you think San Jose is one of the models Snow will try to follow, since most of their team is home grown. Thanks

  391. avatar Darthziggy says:

Just to correct myself from earlier, I meant the 2001-2002 season, which started with the great road trip through Chicago, Florida, Tampa, and Jersey, and then led us back to the playoffs.

  392. avatar TuxTax says:

Blake Comeau 6 points 13 games
Jeff Tambellini 5 points 29 games

    Ill take Comeau

  393. avatar Strummer's Army says:

I remember Hubie playing for Orlando in the IHL (I think that is what league it was). I met him in the hallway after the game, nice guy but damn funny seeing him standing there next to a couple of Orlando Magic and Florida Gator basketball players (of course the same could be said for me) lol.

  394. avatar Chris TMC says:

    This is an interesting read!

And FWIW Im shocked that the Isles are only down by two… they are playing hard, and this SJ team is badass.

  395. avatar SIR WILLIAM says:

I would think that Snow is attempting to emulate Buffalo. More of a no name team.

  396. avatar admin says:

Sir William: Pretty sure Go-Go’s problem had more to do with Comeau’s tendency to pull up just past the blueline instead of going to the net, among other issues. I don’t think me or anyone on this site has Blake as a first-liner.

A hat trick for Travis Hamonic tonight.

I like Cheech & Chong, but I’m going to estimate that the reason why they are blitzing that commercial is that right now Radio City has only sold about 30% of capacity. And when that place is empty, it looks really sad.

The KHL is having some financial difficulties, yes.

I think it’s way too early to think that Stamkos, a teenager in a wacky situation in TB, is going to be a big disappointment…CB

  397. avatar kevin says:

    damn…

  398. avatar mm30 says:

CB-last one tonight,no need for specifics but were there off-ice issues with regards to Milbury dealing Bertuzzi,McCabe, and Berard in such short order?

    good stuff tonight everyone!

  399. avatar Priest says:

With the Islanders being pushed out in favour of a Rangers-Bruins game, do you think the NHL would allow for a double header. I know you said above that they’d only allow one game, but what if it was two games, bill as one event? There would be some difficulities such as a night game requiring lights, but I think that could be worked around. Any chance of something like that happening?

  400. avatar Devon says:

How much more slack is Jeff Tambellini going to get, CB?

  401. avatar Strummer's Army says:

I’d say if the Isles didn’t get the top two they’d go after Duchene (SP?) or Cowen and not Schroder.

  402. avatar Darthziggy says:

    Haha good try kevin.

  403. avatar isles316 says:

I still think San Jose will be out of the playoffs quick. They don’t like getting hit and even in this game the Isles aren’t too badly since the start of the 2nd.

  404. avatar Valentino says:

we are one more loss closer to the prize…..

    Tavares or BUST in 2009!!!

  405. avatar admin says:

I just asked a scout for his top 5 of draft eligibles at the WJC. His list:

    1. Tavares

    2. Hedman

    3. Svensson-Paajarvi

    4. Kane

    5. Ellis

    CB

  406. avatar Justin says:

Add Denis Grebeshkov to the long list of bad Islander trades. Grebeshkov has turned in a solid defenseman for the Oilers with 16 points in 33 games while MAB is long gone.

  407. avatar kjh0517 says:

CB, Ive read your responses and this is the best, thanks for your time Mike!
“I said to Sillinger the other day that he really has to work with Bailey on faceoffs. Even if he doesn’t play again, he will.”
CB, please keep this site going past this season, dont miss the rebuild!

  408. avatar Devon says:

    Nice job, McRebound!

  409. avatar Darthziggy says:

CB – just now? Scouts don’t like sleep either? haha

  410. avatar Shoogah says:

Mac is a friggin machine tonight. This game could easily be 6-1. Or worse.

  411. avatar Devon says:

nice backcheck by comrie after the giveaway

  412. avatar Healy says:

Just want to check in and say that I really enjoy the play of the Okposo-Comrie-Comeau line. They didn’t score but it was their hard work in the second that got the Islanders off their heels and back on the attack. These guys have looked very good together the last few games and it gives me some hope for the future.

  413. avatar SIR WILLIAM says:

The Sharks do not have the heart or fire that the Wings have. Another second round exit in their future…..SW

  414. avatar Nick says:

Mac has played very well, but you can clearly see the drop-off in ability from DP to him. He doesn’t hold the post as well, his rebound control is not as good, he can sometimes be out of position when facing a shot, etc. I hope that, if he stays, he puts in a lot of work with Dunham and Maharaj to fix some of those things.

  415. avatar kevin says:

this is double the amount of responses i expected from this all night special

  416. avatar Randy Boyd says:

I don’t give a crap if they get tavares, this team will be awful until they get a real coach with a defensive system. Gordon sucks.

  417. avatar Strummer's Army says:

    CB:
What is the record for post on this site on a topic?

  418. avatar Devon says:

When did Nabokov become this good? He’s been standing on his head for the past period.

  419. avatar kevin says:

i think they adjusted the defensive problem.

  420. avatar SIR WILLIAM says:

CB Give us your opinion on Bergy. Will he be resigned or moved after this year….SW

  421. avatar TuxTax says:

Parky definitly makes things happen whenever he is on the ice

  422. avatar isles316 says:

Nick if DP can ever be consistent in his play and health we will be set in goal. If you watched last night, DP looked brutal. Out of position, handling pucks too much, bad goals. I don’t know. Joey Mac proved me wrong and I hope he is our backup for a while but he isn’t terrific either.

  423. avatar ken says:

chris, im getting married in 2010, can i book the reception at the Lighthouse?

  424. avatar guerin13 says:

bergie with a very good shift. he’s looked a lot better since he got benched at msg. looks like he learned from it.

  425. avatar Brian G says:

Chris – I know this question is out of nowhere but was it true that Milbury’s favorite players the Isles ever had was Sergei Nemchinov?

  426. avatar Josh says:

Chris: How’s Shaky? Any chance of some more “Shakin’ it up with Shaky” episodes? I need something to make me laugh on iTV!

  427. avatar Chickendirt says:

KIDS STARTIN TO COME ON IN THE THIRD….AGAIN!!!!

Even Tambellini looks good here!!! Keep him with Guerin. Tambellini seems to have his best shifts playing with that guy. Bailey looks GREAT with those two.

Gordon needs to keep these kids going in this third period!!!

Just brilliant!!! San Jose looks like they have absolutely no answers here.

  428. avatar kevin says:

i asked that strummer but got no response. i think it is the late 100 but never past 200

  429. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Nabokov was sensational his first couple years and then fell apart (don’t know why) they had the other goalie who took over and apparently wrestled the job away and SJ couldn’t get rid of Nab. Fortunetly for them too because he regained his form last year or so.

  430. avatar Darthziggy says:

Nabby’s always been pretty solid in net, it’s just that he only recently got a real good team in front of him, and the entire team – Nabby included – still seems to fall apart come April/May. I hope for their sake that it ends sometime soon, but as others have noted, they need a real good lesson before they learn exactly what it takes to win. Losing to Dallas last year didn’t really do it. They need to be pounded by the Wings to be shown what champs are made of (a la Isles over the Oilers).

  431. avatar Brian G says:

Nabokov should have won the Vesina last year, he was robbed.

  432. avatar admin says:

Brian G (394): Yes, but Snow is about a dozen great prospects short right now!

mm30 (403): a funny urban legend in there that I will not repeat or allow, but no personal issues. Bertuzzi and McCabe were dealt because the new ownership wanted what they perceived as leadership.

Some of the questions I’ve gotten over the last hour or so have already been addressed, so read through tomorrow when you get a chance.

You’ve more than doubled the previous record for posts. Thanks, everyone…CB

  433. avatar kjh0517 says:

Im surprised Schroeder didnt get named in your scout’s top 5. I thought he was impressive, but Im just a Gov’t employee not an NHL scout, so I guess he knows better than me!

  434. avatar IslesHockey21 says:

Very random, but any interesting Eric Fichaud trivia from his time here? Growing up in the 90s, he was one of my favorite players.

  435. avatar isles316 says:

Nabby plays too much. I think thats part of the Sharks playoff woes.

  436. avatar kevin says:

kinda like the way nabokov robbed weight huh brian

  437. avatar slotchie says:

Any chance of getting Oleg back with the organization?

  438. avatar kevin says:

speaking of records, i have like five times the allowed amount of posts. i guees we will call this a special occasion?

  439. avatar TuxTax says:

The Lazy Kvasha are you kidding me?

  440. avatar guerin13 says:

damn, okposo was wide open for a breakaway but comeau doesn’t see him and instead shoots in down the ice.

  441. avatar Dan from Westchester says:

Man if only Isles didn’t sleepwalk through the first period — they are getting the better of the play here!!

  442. avatar Darthziggy says:

What is with people and Kvasha? The guy scored like 3 good goals when he was here!

Am I the only one constantly wishing that Kelly Hrudey would just sucker punch Milbury in the side of the head during HNIC After Hours?

  443. Not making the point that Steve Stamkos will be a disappointment…just making a point that maybe he’s on more of an even field than originally thought and that he had great linemates in juniors (and the linemates happen to be islander prospects)

  444. avatar gazaroog says:

    CB,
Do you think Witt has become a little disinterested based on recent comments and little slide in his play (although Martinek has a lot to do with that)?

  445. avatar Jim says:

Schroeder basically disappeared after the first period in the Canada game. He had a pretty weak PS attempt versus Slovakia and disappeared for the rest of that game too.

I love the fact that Gordon will throw almost anyone out on the PK. Jackman, Comeau, KO, Bergie.

  446. avatar Shoogah says:

Nick, agreed. How many wins do we have right now if Ricky played the games Mac played?

  447. avatar admin says:

    Ken (429): No.

Josh (432): You’re asking the wrong person about Shakin’ it up with Shakey.

sorry folks, read my Hamonic release wrong. He had a goal and 2 assists last night.

Eric Fichaud: needed some coaching and didn’t get any. Probably not the most intense fellow either…CB

  448. avatar Darthziggy says:

Wow, 44 shots against, and there’s still half a period left! San Jose is nuts, especially at home.

  449. avatar Strummer's Army says:

I seem to remember a story in the hockey news about Bertuzzi, his wife, Gillies and Milbury. Bertuzzi played a very rough and tough game until something happened to his Dad and then not as much. Gillies was his tutor when he came to the Island which he might not have liked because at a function when Gillies was walking over to say hello, Bertuzzi’s wife said “he’s not like you can’t you just leave him alone!”. Bertuzzi would turn into a tough player again later but after he was gone.

The Bertuzzi/McCabe trade was one of the worst ones that hurt for years. Yashin was another and Loungo. I was not at all oppossed to trading Loungo just that they didn’t get fair value for him or Jokinen. You just don’t do those three deals (there were other bad ones and some good ones Hunter etc) and the past decade or so is a totally different picture.

  450. avatar kevin says:

i thought that was fishy botta that a witt like player got a hat-trick

  451. avatar Devon says:

Every team has their injuries, CB, but it seems like the Isles have it worse than anyone. How has the S&C coach dealt with all of the injured players?

  452. avatar Valentino says:

i find it hard to believe that tambs will still be with the isles come next year.

Questions is…when does garth snow begin the purge??

  453. avatar Devon says:

And game over, right after we get jobbed.

  454. avatar Valentino says:

its incredible how bad we are. we make SUCK look good

  455. avatar isles316 says:

The Isles have gotten no bounces tonight. I actually feel like they have been better than respectable the 2nd and 3rd periods.

  456. avatar jimmy says:

CB, are we allowed to fast foward to the draft so we can have some good news again?

  457. avatar admin says:

oh F!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! let me try this again. Hamonic DID have a hat trick last night. Tonight he had a goal and 2 assists.

gaz (450): Brendan’s attitude has been good and he’s doing the best he can in a system that doesn’t work for him.

Kelly Hrudey and Mike Milbury have become close pals…CB

  458. avatar kevin says:

after what i thought was second wind turned into an abomination on that last play

  459. avatar isles316 says:

No purges Valentino, the salary cap floor is not far beneath the isles.

  460. avatar Nick says:

I’m with you, 316. We haven’t played badly but if not for 4 or 5 amazing saves by Nabokov, some bad bounces, etc, this could be a different game. I’m really not upset by the effort tonight.

  461. avatar kevin says:

haha CB gettin pissed. good for hamonic

  462. avatar Darthziggy says:

Haha CB calm down, it’s late. We’re understanding folk around here.
And I wasn’t so much thinking that Hrudey hated Milbury, I just really want to see Mad Mike get clocked upside the head on (inter)national TV.

  463. avatar kevin says:

    dare we aproach 500????

  464. avatar kjh0517 says:

Im watching on the center ice package and at the 51 minute mark the SJ anouncers to took a cheap shot ath the DP contract. I know Im one of the few on this site, but Im stoked we got him locked in for this rebuild. With a solid team in front of him he is an elite goalie.

  465. So, play coach, folks: what happened on that goal? Park makes a third-man forecheck read that didn’t work, and Bergenheim was slow to get back for him to cover Grier on the 3-on-2. Who do you bark at?

  466. avatar IslesHockey21 says:

    CB,

Any guesses as to why the Isles went into training camp with Fritz/Rechlicz/Sugden and did not retain Kip Brennan? Not that I think Kip is talented enough hockey-wise to be a full time player in the NHL, but I imagine he’d at least be better than a player who plays less than a minute a game. From what I understand, he was also a fan favorite in Bridgeport.

  467. avatar Chickendirt says:

    Great!!!

BU Mike Grier decided to show up tonight!!!

Gotta give it to him though. He’s been one of the better players out there in this one.

  468. avatar SIR WILLIAM says:

Oh well. Pretty much what I expected to see tonight. It could have easily been 6 or 7 to 1. Good night for JMacs save %.

  469. avatar Josh says:

Chris: Aside from Witt’s asinine outburst on Gordon to the media (which made my opinion change on him from leader to -expletive-), how do you think the leaders on the team have handled this losing season, so far. Is there grumbling? Actually, what I’m really getting at is how does this locker room compare to other losing Islander locker rooms.

  470. avatar admin says:

I don’t mean to come off like a puss, but after doing this for 3 hours does anyone know a good masseuse on the South Shore open at 1 in the morning? CB

  471. avatar Justin says:

DiPietro is not an elite goalie even before all the injuries. He is good, even very good, but elite (which means the best), I just don’t see that. Hoepfully, the injuries don’t negatively affect him because he maybe could get to that level one day.

  472. avatar Darthziggy says:

Lighthouse – goes to the defense. Man on the left should’ve been playing the Shark cutting to the middle, man on the right should’ve had more of an eye on Grier, maybe hung a little higher in the zone. As Billy and Jiggs said, though, when the puck’s moving that quick, there’s not much you can do, but the positioning could’ve been better.

  473. avatar Jim says:

Kelly Hrudey was my favorite goalie growing up, I was crushed when he was traded.

  474. avatar MilburyRuinedMyLifeyahoo.com says:

    CB,

How real is Ullstrom? Also, given the cap room we have, are we going to make a play for the Sedins? What about Komi and/or J-Bo?

  475. avatar hextall72 says:

    476.. legal or illegal?

  476. avatar Devon says:

Say what you will, but for the latter half of the second and so far in the third, the Isles hung with the NHL’s best team. Just a little slow to get going.

  477. Is it over yet?

They are two steps behind the entire game, as evident by Witt’s penalty just now.

  478. avatar isles316 says:

CB, the Isles seem to have a lot of players that don’t fit in this system besides Witt. Are you a fan of having a coach developing a system and fit pieces into it? Or having the coach take his players and develop a system for what he has got?

  479. avatar kevin says:

THERES A Q I FORGOT! what did happen to kip. i know he went to sweden but i always wanted him up here last year and was looking forward to him but then thye said that he went to europe and that was a disapointment. good call 21

  480. avatar Valentino says:

I thought CB said the cap floor wasnt going to be much of an issue ?

We need to take what we can get for guys like guerin, weight, and comrie.

We cant let these guys walk away and get nothing in return. Bad enough we got nothing for Satan, Fedotanko etc…

  481. avatar dalcy says:

its always player like Mike Greer that score on the Islanders. everytime a team calls a kid up from the minors they score on us. i remember when Jim Carrey (the net detective) was called up by the Caps to play against the Isles. he kicked ass that game and continued the rest of the year turning around a terrible start for the Caps. th point is scrubs always find away to score on the Isles

  482. avatar Andre Legault says:

    Hello from Montreal,

CB, that’s history, I know, but always wanted to ask an insider about that.

Any idea why Milbury thought it would be a good idea to trade a north american sniper (JP Dumont) in exchange for an enigmatic russian player (Nabokov) ?

  483. avatar Pete M says:

Comeau just got away with one

  484. avatar gazaroog says:

    CB,
    Well done.

It’s not as sexy as Rhonda Up All Night On the US network (obscure reference and outdating some of you), but well done!

  485. avatar admin says:

IslesHockey21: Kip had trouble taking regular shifts just like the rest and he got a far better offer than he’d ever get from the NYI.

Josh (475): Leaders have been solid. No issues there…CB

  486. avatar Devon says:

See, I told you Jackman is a good player

  487. Josh – whether or not Witt should have shared his convo’s with Gordon on system with Logan, “outburst” is a bit of a stretch, no?

  488. avatar Valentino says:

    CB is a blogging MACHINE.

  489. avatar isles316 says:

Park is the best all around player on the team hands down.

  490. avatar jimmy says:

hey tim jackman the next gordie howe

  491. avatar kevin says:

well i am going to boku today i guess(no homo) i got back probs at a very young age and thanks to overPLAYing, as opposed to overspeed, i have a pinched nerve.good for tim jackman

  492. avatar Nick says:

Good shot by Jackman there. We have not embarrassed ourselves tonight.

  493. avatar Brian1976 says:

How tough do you think it is for the announcers to call theses games in which it is clear to everyone that the islanders talent does not march up. Sometimes it sounds like Jaffe is not interested in calling the game anymore once the Isles are out of it

  494. avatar MT says:

I think Brennan’s in Hershey, the caps ahl team. was in europe earlier in the season. i think

  495. avatar admin says:

Is it me, or did The Jaff sound exhausted and kinda done when trying to analyze Jackman’s goal? LOL…CB

  496. avatar Joe says:

YEAH JACKMAN! Becoming a fan favorite definitely. CB any word of a guy like Godard coming back? Also, anyone certain when Sutton will be back?

  497. avatar Chickendirt says:

Park again pretending he’s Pierre Turgeon.

    What’s gotten into this guy?

Nice deceptive little pass to get that play going.

  498. avatar Devon says:

Trivia Question for all you: who was the goalie on whom Rob Davison scored the 200 footer?

  499. Tim Jackman just looked like a pure goal scorer. Amazing, yet sad.

  500. avatar kjh0517 says:

First, congrats CB on a very succesful night and F CB on me being more into his responses than the actual game! What a site PB is! as I type Park adds another point!

  501. avatar Nick says:

Toskala, same guy who flubbed that shot from KO last week.

  502. avatar kevin says:

wow i was way off. shame kip couldnt get a shift. he was a great fighter. o and for 506, toskala

  503. avatar hextall72 says:

    toskala

  504. avatar leyts says:

Why not keep Jackman. He may not be a heavy weight but he’s willing and his skating has improved, evidenced by his goal.

  505. avatar isles316 says:

    YES!!!

  506. avatar Devon says:

Oh my god, two nice little comebacks on back to back nights! And correct, Nick.

  507. avatar jimmy says:

pock puts the puck in the net hahah idk why i jus find that funny

  508. avatar Pete M says:

    Here we go again

  509. avatar Netminder39 says:

    POCK!!!!! what is going on?

  510. avatar TuxTax says:

    Pock first goal i believe!!!!

  511. avatar kevin says:

uh oh are we back in this???? evgeni looked liek a re right there

  512. avatar Nick says:

    POCK?! Wow…..Though he’s still a UMass alum.

I still remember our derisive chant for the UMass Minutemen at BU: “We Last Lon-ger!”

  513. avatar Brian1976 says:

I wish the Isles can play the first 58 minutes of the game like they have been playing the last two minutes of the game recently

  514. avatar kjh0517 says:

This is what we need, a team that makes every game exciting

  515. avatar TuxTax says:

    Should I open another beer?

  516. Jaffe can’t even speak, you are right CB

  517. avatar Chickendirt says:

That looks like it hit Bailey’s stick.

  518. avatar admin says:

First guestion from Logie to Go-Go: what do you have to do so you’re not frantically scoring at the end of games but coming up short? CB

  519. avatar kevin says:

    this is superb

  520. avatar MilburyRuinedMyLife says:

What are the chances we keep Weight and deal Comrie?

  521. avatar TuxTax says:

    Another Review??????? CB?

  522. avatar dalcy says:

they just played Rush in the SJ arena

  523. avatar Devon says:

I love the referee announcements. It’s the little things that the NHL actually does right that make me happy.

  524. avatar admin says:

Colie couldn’t believe the Islanders are making another comeback…CB

  525. avatar jimmy says:

wow two reviews go the islanders way in 2 days? shocking

  526. avatar Shoogah says:

Why does this team INSIST on giving me heart failure?

  527. avatar DingoAteYoBaby says:

Been here all night, reading along, but haven’t had much to add…but seriously…why can’t the isles play with the same desperation and determination they do for the last two minutes like they have in the past three games for the ENTIRE game?

  528. avatar Nick says:

CB, I think this is just the effort paying off too late…let’s not forget that if not for that unreal save on Weight this is a tied game.

  529. avatar kevin says:

i just heard a pin drop in the arena after that goal all the way from LI

  530. Red Bull gives you wings….

    Go-Go’s answer to Logie

  531. avatar jimmy says:

sorry not two within the week sorry tired

  532. avatar TuxTax says:

Just like being a Jets fan, except the Jets find a way to lose games late, as opposed to too little too late…

  533. avatar kevin says:

    hows about 600?

  534. avatar Josh says:

Lighthouse: IMO, coming out against the coach in the media is absolutely classless and unprofessional. Especially considering the fact that the team is filled with young guys, you don’t want them thinking its acceptable way to broach your concerns. Your thoughts, Chris?

  535. avatar Valentino says:

sell sell sell sell at the deadline

  536. avatar Bob says:

Does anyone know why Howie is out anyway?

  537. avatar Devon says:

Great effort by the kids. Good moral victory.

  538. I love how we keep reducing three-goal deficits to games that look “close” in the boxscore. I suppose it will be nice for year-end stats — oops, unless we give up empty-netters like that.

  539. avatar Nick says:

Sharks know they really got away with one tonight. I don’t think they had any business winning tonight.

  540. Can’t work every time – although as I posted on my site today, I prefer this type of game while in the rebuild.

  541. avatar SIR WILLIAM says:

    too little, too late.

  542. avatar Pete M says:

    Does anyone care?

  543. avatar kevin says:

this reminds me of attendance with buffalo. avg, avg, avg, sellout, sellout, low, avg, winter classic, low, avg. really brings the avg posts up. except its 100,100,160,80,40,120,550

  544. avatar isles316 says:

Great effort in the last 2 periods. Games like this I can handle. I still think San Jose hit their peak too soon and will be out of the playoffs quick. They give up too many goals.

  545. avatar leyts says:

Win or lose, you have to like the fact that Gordon is now giving young guys like Okposo, Comeau, and Campoli a chance in important situations.

  546. avatar hextall72 says:

cool.. closer to tavares.. CB, thankyou.

  547. avatar TuxTax says:

cause howie works 50 weeks a year, he deserves a few weeks off

  548. avatar Valentino says:

lost season…sell anyone with market value…purge..start over with Tavares

  549. avatar jimmy says:

ahhh well not abad performance considering the sharks are a much better team we held our own and kept on pace to keep more ping pong balls in that lottery drawing .. thanks cb

  550. avatar Chickendirt says:

I say we make this our new home on game nights.

    Great discussion on here tonight!!!

  551. avatar guerin13 says:

well at least we made it interesting in the end (for a second straight night) and made the score respectable. i’m glad that we didn’t get blown out considering the opposition. they looked awestruck in the first period but played decently and with fight in the 2nd and 3rd periods. can’t complain. bring on tavares.

  552. avatar Netminder39 says:

SJ announcers giving a lot of props to the Islanders and J Mac

  553. avatar admin says:

    Howie on vacation.

Witt was wrong to criticize publicly, even if you agree with him.

Sorry, but another late comeback is pretty much a non-story for me – especially when Mac made a half-dozen outta his ass saves…CB

  554. avatar Nick says:

CB, thanks for doing this – night everyone!

  555. avatar kjh0517 says:

Great Isles talk and Great idea CB, not sure if we should all be happy about another loss, but thanks for all the responses, good night all!

  556. avatar guerin13 says:

thanks for the info all night long chris. very much appreciated.

  557. avatar SIR WILLIAM says:

Nick, Are you kidding? Look at the shots and the scoring chances.

  558. avatar isles316 says:

Guerin, I thought the Isles played them very even most of the game. It’s something not to take lightly considering they haven’t lost a game in San Jose since February.

  559. Sorry I came by so late CB, but it definately was a fun one.

Not that you care I am here or anything.

  560. avatar TuxTax says:

Thanks CB it was a lot of fun, Lets go Draft Day!

  561. avatar Pete M says:

    Thanks CB. ‘night

  562. avatar Nick says:

I am – it’s just based on what I saw and interpreted.

  563. avatar Brian from Massapequa says:

Another loss, oh well…#1, #1, #1. Great job tonight CB. Really just read your responses to the hundreds of comments but you were insightful and humorous as always. By the way, no bailing after this season. Even if you get another gig and need to cut down on content, you (please) can’t stop this.

  564. avatar kevin says:

well we are closer to tavares. thats something. do want to win when we get back from this road trp (rags) i want to fast forward this season soooo badly

  565. avatar Nick says:

I’m NOT kidding, excuse me….Night everyone

  566. avatar isles316 says:

The Sharks had a lot of shots but a lot of them were from the perimeter

  567. avatar Josh says:

Thanks for the answers, Chris! Good night or happy nightcap!

  568. avatar isles316 says:

    Thanks Chris, goodnight everyone.

  569. avatar Valentino says:

JIGGS rules. He should do games full time

  570. avatar Darthziggy says:

Thanks a lot for staying on here and doing this, CB. It was a fantastic idea and everyone contributed with some meaningful, fun conversation. Just like being in the stands with a bunch of buddies.

  571. avatar kevin says:

i care mike. no homo. well im heading off but will read comments in case i can get the 600th

  572. avatar dalcy says:

steve konroyd and bob bassen for adam creighton and steve thomas. hella of a deal

  573. avatar SIR WILLIAM says:

    Thanks, Chris.

  574. avatar kevin says:

o and great idea CB, this is a great website. dont stop.

  575. avatar Brian G says:

Park is such a good player – I was the GM of a playoff contender this is a guy I would trade for – he is such a team guy and would look even better on a good team.

  576. I hear what you’re saying, Josh — and I agree players shouldn’t be undermining their coaches in the media. I just inferred from his comments that Logan had asked him, and Witt was just honestly (naive to public repercussions?) discussing the struggles and philosophical dilemmas of an obviously struggling team.

But he may have had a veteran’s win-now agenda, and maybe a further veteran’s don’t-move-me agenda in follow-up remarks with CB.

  577. avatar Bob says:

I’m kind of glad the Rangers took Joe M. Billy Jaffe is outstanding. What do you think?

  578. avatar Strummer's Army says:

I still think the last goal was Bailey’s.

Oh, Dumont trade. Remember how certain Milbury was about it “our scouts don’t feel like he can play in the NHL”. Well many years later he still has a pretty darn good career going and I wouldn’t have known the name of the guy you traded him for unless some one posted it here.

  579. avatar kjh0517 says:

I thought I posted my last responce, but Brian from Massapequa made me post one more, please listen to him CB and keep this site going!

  580. avatar jimmy says:

hopefully we dont get screwed in the lottery

  581. avatar kevin says:

brian, he is also known for clutch goals but i wouldnt trade him if it were up to me. maybe 2nd rounder but thats not going to happen

  582. avatar Brian G says:

CB – any word if Jiigs & Eddie could be a part of the isles hall of fame?

  583. avatar kevin says:

i agree bob, jaffe is great. and i notion that jimmy

  584. avatar Darthziggy says:

Bob, I mentioned that earlier. I’m very, very glad we’re rid of Joe. There were nights when I’d want to go on the computer and boot up the radio broadcast – with the inherent time delay – just to avoid listening to his drivel. Much happier with Billy providing commentary.

  585. avatar dalcy says:

if tampa wins the lotto they are gonna take the swede, a glut of scoring forwards in TB. we just need them to be slightly worse than Hotlanta

  586. avatar Brian G says:

Dumont was traded for Nabokov (LW) from Chicago

  587. avatar Netminder39 says:

    kevin is closer to 600

  588. avatar Bob says:

Wouldn’t be shocked if MSG try to steal Billy as well…

  589. avatar Shoogah says:

Sigh. Win or lose, still love these guys. Cheers, CB! Nearly 600 comments and I read every one! Night, all.

  590. avatar kevin says:

idk dalcy, there scoring sucks and they may just take the better player. they could trade some of there scoring for better dmen but i think whatever team gets number one will take tavares. thrashers will take the best center to center kovolchuk

  591. avatar Darthziggy says:

Haha you’ll just have to be content with the early 100s tonight, kevin. Great conversations all around, thanks again CB, gnite all!

  592. avatar dalcy says:

they need defense in Tampa. the swede will be tanning on the beach, trust me

  593. avatar kevin says:

well there goes my high point of the day. catch you guys later, g’night

  594. avatar mm30 says:

Back to Back 3 point nights for Park!

  595. avatar admin says:

thanks to all. This was certainly a unique experiment and, like just about everything with you guys, it surpassed expectations. I hope I got to most of your questions. See you Sunday…CB

  596. isn’t today sunday already?

  597. avatar Larry says:

good game, good blog, good night!!

zzzzzz zzzzzz (dreamin of tavares) zzzzzz zzzzzz

  598. avatar doc says:

    WOW!!!
It’s 7:32 am and I just finished watching game on DVR… entertaining game.

BUT — What overspeed system is SJ playing???

I want to play that system!!!

Tape to tape passes out of the zone by SJ were impressive.

Islanders are at least showing a little punch lately.

And ummm… over 600 posts CB? Awesome!

  599. avatar dp says:

CB- -What a great idea, what a great blog: informative, fun, and insightful.
Question: Do you think JMAC is good enough to be a starting goalie for an NHL team 2009-10 season?? Personally I think he is amazingly good considering he was hired as a back-up and yes I can see the difference between DP’s aggressive style and JMAC’s close to the posts more conservative style, but I just really like how he seems to play with so much heart and he’s cute too.

  600. avatar Brian St says:

Thanks so much for doing this last night CB! I wasn’t home and didn’t get to participate, but reading it over this morning while sipping my morning coffee was an awesome experience in and of itself! Your blog is by far my most enjoyable daily read on the web or otherwise.

  601. avatar isles72 says:

jaffe get any tickets for tossing banana peels out the window this time around ?

  602. avatar kevin says:

my favorite part of their system was that when they passed, they looked at the goalie so it was a great fake and it was on the tape

  603. avatar HilbertSnipe says:

CB- After the response and success you have had with this blog and radio show, don’t you think it’s time to make an appearance on Hockey Night Live? Just putting it on the table, I think you would be a great guest.

On last nights game, I am happy they gave SJ a run for their money. The Sharks (as well as the Canucks) have always been my favorite Western Conference team. I used to own two of their jerseys when I was younger, one of which was an Atrurs Irbe jersey. I wish my rents didn’t give it to the poor sometimes… Either way… the past two losses seem as if they can compete for the 60 minutes, but also reserve some energy for the last ten minutes of the game haha.

  604. avatar Peter DeBenedetto says:

    I missed it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
