I hope Streit doesn’t miss too much time.
-
I am 99% certain that Pock took a shot off the hand.
-
Hate to say this, but addition by subtraction in Pock’s case. He’s like the new Dick Tarnstrom. I’d rather see Hillen.
-
JOHN TAVERES HERE WE COME
-
as long as he is day-to-day, at least this will get us a losing streak. hope to a speedy recovery. i hope we trade pock somewhere for a late late pick. just to get rid of him and then we can get hillen or callahan up. they at least have potential.
-
losing pock is a blessing in disguise.. gets him off the ice and u get a chance to look at a prospect like hillen.. maybe he’ll score a goal? pock more than likely wont.
-
losing pock should help us get tavares, lol.
-
i’d like too see them give andy macdonald a look…although hillen has been better of late in bridgeport
-
Pock is a Big loss, ha…Let Streit stay out as long as it takes…bring up McDonald & Hillen
-
Yes and YES!
-
GET SHANE O BRIEN! Screw Pock, he sucks! Im actually happy about that, sucks about Streit, give him some rest, lets not score anymore and just get Tavares.
-
You people complain when we lose and complain when we win. No wonder Wang is moving the team.
-
Jack Hillen will get the call up at least until some deals are made but he could be here the rest of the year now. Who else Callahan? Andy MacDonald? Might be time for Snow to trade at least one asset for young d-man. If he trades a vet forward then that helps in the Tavares sweeps too!
-
rocky45 what the hell are you talking about? we want to lose. when did we complain. every article must have a mention of HERE WE COME TAVARES or TAVARES CAN SAVE THIS FRANCHISE. its what we need.does anyone here want to win?
-
You guys think Pock is bad on Defense. Wait until you see Hillen in the defensive zone.Offensively Hillen is very good in the AHL but on defense he sucks.
-
Just a thought…. give the 31st pick and a vet to tampa for stamkos. Think they would go for that? I am sorry to hear about streit but it just puts us one loss closer to taveres or hedman.
-
Hillen is too small and soft, a guy like Nathan McIver or Shane O’Brien would be much better.
-
dan i hope you are kidding. if you are HAHA if you are not then please checked
-
Totally agree with the Shane O’Brien posts. Guy seems to have some size/grit and can move the puck. Could help round out our rather smallish defense and help us out since we lack a true enforcer.
-
Can anybody on this team stay healthy? This is getting ridiculous. Every injury suffered by guys on this team is major. The number of man-games lost by this team must be staggering.
-
You people who continue to wish for another losing streak and just won’t stop with the “here we come Tavares” comments are starting to make me sick. Can’t we just wish a quick recovery for our players here and be done with it? Of course not. What would a PB post be without the same damn song and dance in the comments, no matter the actual topic at hand.
And, kevin, get a clue re: Pock. Who the hell is going to trade even a bag of pucks for him, much less a draft pick? Islanders picked him up on WAIVERS, remember? If you’ve seen anything that’s given evidence that his worth has increased since then – to the point where the Isles can now turn him around for something of actual value – please enlighten the rest of us.
-
Might we take a chance on Jussi Jokinen. Why Tampa has such a hard time finding a spot for this kid is beyond me. Some injures might open up a spot for him as he’s now on the waiver wire. I’d say he’s already proven he’s better than Tambellini in his career. Give him a shot Snowman. We could use the salary boost for the deadline. And some gotta stop whining about others wanting losses, it’s the only way to re-build faster. I find myself watching more, Atlanta, St. Louis, Ottawa, Toronto and Tampa games hoping for them to win, than actually watching contenders battle. I want the Islanders to get the best pick possible, so don’t worry about the losing philiosphy if you are in the win as many as possible camp. Just two different perspectives. Mine is lose.

The Islanders are in fact the #1 team in MGL to injury. It looks like they will lose over 500MG to injury this season.22 Marc from Troy on Feb 4th, 2009 18:48:08 said: You people who continue to wish for another losing streak and just won’t stop with the “here we come Tavares” comments are starting to make me sick. Great post, Marc. Here is my take on all of this. As of right now Feb 4th 2009:
* There is nothing the Islanders can do
(not even go 32-00-00) to finish first overall.
* The Islanders need to go 29-02-01 or better to clinch making the playoffs. (100%)
* The Islanders need to go 26-05-01 or better for the odds to favor even making the playoffs (>50%)
* The Islanders need to go 23-08-01 or better for there to even be a chance of making the playoffs. (>1%)
* If the Islanders finish 22-09-01 then they cannot make the playoffs AND they cannot finish 29-30th overall.
* The Islanders need to go 21-10-01 or worse for even a chance of finishing 29-30th overall. (>1%)
* The Islanders need to go 19-12-01 or worse for the odds to favor finishing 29-30th overall. (>50%)
* The Islanders need to go 15-16-01 or worse to clinch finishing 29-30th overall. (100%)
* The Islanders need to go 12-19-01 or worse to definitely finish 3oth overall.I really hope that Islanders fans everywhere realize that it is FINE to root for wins. All this cheering for losing BS is not going to solve anything. It isnt going to help anyhting, either. If this team plays .500 hockey from now to the end of the season, they will STILL have a ninety-something percent chance of finishing 29-30th overall. So what do you say? can we please nix all the “hurry up and lose so I can go home” talk?
Watching the players who are ALREADY Islanders, the young kids who we all hope will be here for years, work their tails off and get rewarded for it is worth so much more than yearning for losses when they really arent needed to accomplish anything.
-
#23 I agree. I think the 1st pick or 2nd is more important than anything at this point.
-
how to be an islander fan:
“…addition by subtraction in Pock’s case. He’s like the new Dick Tarnstrom.”
” …You guys think Pock is bad on Defense. Wait until you see Hillen in the defensive zone.”
“Can anybody on this team stay healthy?”
“You people complain when we lose and complain when we win. No wonder Wang is moving the team.”
” …at least this will get us a losing streak.”
it’s a beautiful thing.
-
with CB out the comments today are like an old school classroom with a substitute teacher..lol….”We’re streaking! We’re going up through the quad to the gymnasium C’mon everybody!”
-
Damn, tough blow to the D. Pock was getting better with each game, and Streit was looking confident on the PP again. Which lucky D-men from Bridgeport are getting a nice vacation in Florida this weekend?
The Islanders have to win NOW to make up for a horrible January. I hope that they give their Dads a few nice games to watch. Let’s Go Islanders!!

chris tmc, i wouldnt call it cheering to losein the traditional sense. the way i see it, the teams future is missing the number one ( tavares ) and number one on d ( we will have to see be maybe a number two too) and the only way to get that is to finish in the top two. we can continue to be in the top ten and create a really good team in depth but that will take longer. i like to compare our rebuild to other teams. ottawa is missing depth in general ( d and o in other lines. ) and atlanta is missing depth on offense. we have the depth C ( bailey, neilson, trivino, petrov, figrin, joensuu, comeua, bergie and so on) the thing we are missing is the superstars. on d we have well you get the point. look at pittsburgh, not that they are rebuilding but they are mssing the depth ( mostly due to the the hossa trade ) but now they are paying for it. they can get it in the free agency but we cant. so the reality is, this franchise needs to lose. and i say franchise becuase this team is not exactly popular. not classic vs rangers, no lighthouse, no tier 1 free agents. im rooting for this franchise to succeed even if that means we have to suck it up for one season possibly more. my guess? rebuild for 3 years. 3 years without playoffs.this year we get a top 3 pick. next year its a top 5 at most and year three top ten. then, all the peices should be in place. quality picks in the free agnecy. next year could be cammalari. he is i think 26. give him a 4-5 year contract. stuff like that
-
sorry for the long post. one last thing.
the isles should look at Calvin de Haan and use the leafs pick for him. he should be around there. -
#3 – I seem to remember that too.
et al – I agree that Hillen will most likely get the call. I personally I’m enjoying the winning streak, but I don’t want it to get “out of hand”
-
Kevin you make all the sense in the world. You can’t have a bleeding heart and say we have to keep Weight and Guerin that are good mentors and good guys and they want to play here so re-sign them. No they have to go. And I don’t care about wins now, I’d like to garner a few after the deadline when this becomes a full on youth movement. Winning meanless games only get us closer to meaningless draft picks. And as far as I’m concerned the 31st pick overall might be nearly as important as the #1 or 2 overall pick this year.
-
All the more reason to keep Witt.
-
from the Islanders website – Recalled from Bridgeport to go on the two-game road trip in Florida and Tampa Bay were Joe Callahan and Jack Hillen.
-
Dibenedetto had a hat trick on the OHL all star game tonight and Katic had 3 assists for the Western team. Impressive because they only scored 6 goals. Not a bad night for some of the prospects
-
jussi jokinen is back on waivers and TB said 1 team was interested in him.. could it be the isles? do you see the isles going to pick up jokinen from TB
-
Kevin, I did the math, you just arent looking at it for some reason. Even if the Isles go 19-12-01… which would be them doing really, really good… they would STILL have greater than a 50% chance of finishing bottom two. If they essentially go 500 from right now to the end of the season, which would be admirable and something that our young players could be proud of- they will STILL have nearly a 100% chance of finishing bottom two! So, tell me- what the hell could all the extra losing you people are clammoring for POSSIBLY DO for this team??? Tell me!
-
i dont see jokinen on waivers yet. Where did you read this?
-
#37 chris tmc..
INSURANCE.. something some of us fans have never had before.. the more losing, the less worrying -
I just saw the Jussi Jokinen waiver news on NHL network. Outside of a great set of moves in the shootout, what’s Jussi all about?

You would worry less if players like Kyle and Josh and Frans and Campoli and ervais and Streit and Hunter and everyone else cant muster any wins? That makes no sense to me, sorry. -
Isles could lose every game the rest of the season and still not get the first pick in the draft so I agree. It all about counting the positives the rest of the year while still getting a good draft pick and having something to look forward to next year!!
-
Just wanted to throw this out there.
Is there any possibility that the next Isles Blogger can get his own site instead of posting to Eklunds Land of Fabrication.
I know Botta doesn’t work for the Isles. I was just wondering if he could run it by them. I don’t think a lot of Isles fans like posting on that thief’s site.
I kinda feel dirty when I do. Even though I don’t give em money.
-
Hey, Joe O’Brian wants out of Van according to several articles.
-
i just want the top two pick. but im afraid of other teams tanking. atlanta really needs tavares ottawa not as much and maple leafs probably want a homegrown superstar and the blues have peterangelo so they make take tavares. yeah 19-12 but i feel more comfortable with a record lower becuase it seems like we always win at the end so we dont get screwed by getting the second pick possibly 3rd. then the best you would get is hedman and worst is duchene which overall is not so bad but like i said tavares would help this franchise a lot.
-
If Ottawa and Atlanta lose more than us, along with Toronto, there we are blowing in the wind at number 4. That math doesn’t even come close to making sense. It’s not about finishing last and getting Tavares, cause yes we could lose the lotery; it’s about finishing last and assuring ourselves Tavares or Hedman in my books.

Hey Dally Mac, what “doesnt make sense” about it? Math is the ultimate in making sense.
I will explain this to you once again:
(1) It is a mathematical FACT that even if the Isles finish 19-12-01 there is STILL a greater than 50% chance of finishing 29th or 30th. Clear?
(2) Even if the Isles go 500 or a game below it there is pretty much a ONE HUNDRED PERCENT CHANCE that they pick 29th or 30th overall, no matter WHAT any other team in the NHL does.
(3) Losing more games is NOT going to better those odds. At ALL. Get it?

Dose – don’t be a doofus, please. We praise the things that go right, and razz the things that don’t. People do this with politics and movies and traffic and the weather and just about everything else. If you think this is unusual you haven’t spent any time at all talking with anyone about anything, anywhere, much less sports fans or hockey fans.
-
Last two games for Islanders Hillen was +1 and had an assist on the game winner against the Ducks. With Streit out maybe he will get a little more ice tonight so we can see how he fits in. His defense was excellent against the Caps and Ducks.

I knew this winning streak had to have SOME negatives
