  1. avatar nyislanders93 says:

Hey CB. As of right now, what do you think the Islanders will focus on during the free agency period this year?

  2. avatar billy says:

No crosby or whitney tonight yahoo! There’s certain teams that i hate losing too and the Pens are one of them. Hopefully Gordon goes back to Danis tonight, i think he has already won out the backup role for next year over Joey Mac.

Campoli has 3 points in 2 games playing on that all-star senators power play, we need mcammond to start lighting it up. haha

  3. avatar Steve S says:

How could you possibly say that Danis has beat Joey Mac for the backup role NEXT season? That is ridiculous.

First of all, you don’t know if either guy will be here. Secondly, I assume you missed the goal Danis allowed to Scott Gomez last week. Lastly, can we even be certain that Ricky will be ready to go?

  4. avatar Cain says:

CB, It has been said that Garth has lines in the water and numerous (varying levels of credibility) sources (not related to that site) are reporting rumblings that Weight may be moved for a conditional pick and Guerin to an Eastern conference, play-off bound team. Once (Brochu) has cited Hilbert is available.

    Your take or insight?

  5. avatar Islanders1984 says:

CB i was wondering how you feel about the Coyotes situation. The Glendale Arena and the Surronding area have been a comparison to what the Ligthouse project should be. Yet the Coyotes seem to be in financial trouble. Is it because of them being in a non- hockey market. I know the owners say they have potential investors, yet I would have to believe they are one of the 3 teams the NHL21 group is looking into for relocation to kanasas City. Coudl the coyotes situation affect the Islanders and the Lighthouse or is it not even an issue?

  6. avatar Akeem says:

    CB,
I posted this question on a previous thread, but I guess you missed it or deemed it unworthy of an answer. I’ll try again:
The year the Islanders drafted Katic in the third round, I recall reading a piece on the Isles website written I believe by you, that said the Isles must have loved Katic, because the player who scouts had told you the Isles were targeting with that third round pick was still on the board, and they went with Katic instead. Was this true? And if so, do you recall who the player was that they passed up?

  7. avatar Islanders1984 says:

I still think weight gets moved, and the conditional pick would have to lead to a 1st some how, say the team makes it to the finals or soemthing like that

  8. avatar 4195mary says:

CB, why not shift the focus away from the 09 draft (we already have lots of picks)and look at the 2010 draft. Search for and identify teams that might make the playoffs this year, but could fall flat on their faces next season. A first rounder could be golden with a little luck. What do you think?

  9. avatar Kyle says:

I need you all to keep me posted on the game. I have student senate meeting from 7-11 tonight, sucks. Go Isles!!

  10. CB – I think you get the record today. I think 5 posts in one day is your all time high right?

  11. avatar isles316 says:

    no HD on cablevision :(

  12. avatar Kevin Fitz says:

it is the HD game on the center ice feed tonight. But I will have to listen to the Pens announcers

  13. avatar Steve-O says:

Too bad no Crosby tonight, he is spectacular! I look forward to watching Hillen a little closer with more ice time. What is your thoughts on Hunter, is this as good as he gets?

  14. avatar Giaco says:

Time Warner – Queens = game being broadcast in fuzzy – non hd – tv guide channel with NO SOUND!!

    ruins my night…

  15. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Fitz, center ice is showing both Isles and Pens broadcast tonight. Not sure which channel is which.

  16. avatar TIM says:

Kevin allen (NHL INSIDER)said today on NHL LIVE that he believed Billy G would be traded now that Weight was done for a while he figured he would go for sure

    THOUGHTS CB?

  17. avatar JOE RVC says:

    which islander team shows up????

  18. avatar Macch says:

Do you think the Isles have made their last trade before the deadline? Should we expect more dealing around the 2009 draft?

  19. avatar admin says:

Hello, everyone. Let me start off by correcting a major screwup. I said on XM Home Ice tonight that Andy Hilbert was a pending RFA. He is going to be a UFA. My mistake. Since Andy is UFA, he has to be very much in play between now and the trade deadline. If the NYI love him so much, they can try and re-sign him July 1 if he is traded…CB

  20. avatar Scott says:

I just don’t see Guerin getting traded.

The captain, with a NTC clause? The ever-so important locker room dynamics? unless its a win-win for everyone, just see too many obstacles. This isn’t a Weight to Anaheim scenario…

  21. avatar TIM says:

i agree with ya scott #20 ,not sure what Kevin Allen is thinking but thats what he said today

  22. avatar admin says:

    (1) I’m sorry nyislanders93, but it’s not even March. Team ID their needs, but they’re not targeting anyone in late February. Not worth the time because so much can change. And if anyone claims to know now who a team is targeting in July, they’ll full of crapioca…CB

  23. avatar Moose says:

The MSG plus HD on 414 is horrible…i know they have an awesome tv contract but i would love it if they somehow got involved with YES or SNY

  24. avatar TIM says:

Not sure if you mentioned this already CB but are you haveing a trade-deadline special? I mean updates as they happen?

  25. avatar admin says:

    (4) I don’t think those are major scoops, Cain. Bill and Doug are available, so is Andy. I’ll have an equally non-scoopy trade story up either tonight or tomorrow morning after I connect with a few people…CB

  26. avatar JC Frank says:

Right now no Isles for me, my overflow channel is showing the Knicks, which is also on MSG. Grrrrrr Comcast of JC is good for this at least once or twice a year.

  27. avatar Macch says:

CB did the Islanders ever think of signing Bob Uecker when things were really bad early in the year. He has movie expierence in that field

  28. avatar admin says:

    (5) 1984: I won’t pretend to be an expert on Glendale and the Coyotes, but I will say this:

Phoenix Coyotes < New York Islanders

    Glendale < New York/Long Island

That's the best I can do for ya...CB

  29. avatar glenn says:

hey chris. Is chris higgins a realistic possibility for a trade? And if he is, if Brendan Witt is not enough (which I don’t think he is) what else would the Islanders have to give up to get him? Bailey, Nielsen, and Higgins would be a great nucleus to build on over the next couple of years don’t you think?

  30. avatar b-ri says:

Can they just give tambellini a mercy kill (so to speak)? put the kid on waivers if youre going to play jon sim ahead of him. he either gets picked up and best of luck or he has what happened to pock and sim happen and he stays here and probably goes to the bridge…but hes not gonna get any better from the press box

  31. avatar Islanders1984 says:

Thats what I figured CB, Thanks

  32. avatar admin says:

    (6) Akeem: You are very observant and have a good memory. That story is true. I will not release the name of the prospect in question. I can tell you he is a defenseman and has yet to emerge as much of a prospect. Katic is far from a can’t-miss, but he’s ahead of the kid you’re talking about. They’re both still young so there is time…CB

  33. avatar Matt Brosseau says:

No Islanders game either on the Comcast-Union overflow channel. So the Rags get the HD game and I’m sitting at my computer listening to the radio like it’s 1939.

Oh, and the Knicks are on TWO channels. Nice. Thanks Dolan.

  34. avatar TIM says:

I’m getting the penguins feed on my center-ice package these guys are pro-pittsburgh miss Howie and Billy

  35. avatar admin says:

    (8) 4195mary: You’re right. For a good deal, I don’t think the Islanders would rule out a 2010 draft pick now that they have 5 in the first 2 rounds (and could have more, or less). I sure Garth Snow appreciates your patience, lol…CB

  36. avatar admin says:

    (10) Brian from Massapequa: When I was much younger, like in October, I posted more. But something I learned from experience: usually readers don’t get past the story on their main screen. If I put a lot of time into Story A and then post Story B an hour later, A gets lost in the shuffle.

The exception, of course, is breaking news. If something is hot or breaking, it goes up right away. And if I didn’t know that before, I learned from my massive goof not posting Campoli True Value because I didn’t think a deal would happen that day…CB

  37. avatar Macch says:

Why cant you release the name to Akeem’s question? There were only two Dmen taken between Katic and Gregoire. Was it John Negrin or Yannick Weber?

  38. avatar isles316 says:

Isles protecting the front of the net pretty well so far.

  39. avatar admin says:

    (16) Tim: Did Kevin happen to mention that Billy has a full no-move clause? Don’t get me wrong; Guerin can go. But a lot has to happen, and to the best of my knowledge nothing has happened yet. Yet. I hope to find out more when the team returns…CB

  40. avatar The Express says:

The team looks pretty bad tonight. Worse than usual.

  41. avatar JC Frank says:

Comcast has fixed it, the Isles are now on the overflow!

  42. avatar admin says:

    (18) Macch: No. I think the NYI will make at least one more trade

    (37) I’ve written plenty of times before about what I will and will not divulge from my time with the team, and why I will or will not…CB

  43. avatar 7th Woman says:

For sure. Garth is not done. Not by a long shot.

  44. avatar Macch says:

CB thanks for answering my question, Btw my name is Macch, Not Maach. Thanks again

    sorry bout that. Fixed…CB

  45. avatar The Express says:

    CB-
Jaffe and Howie are talking about bringing in players to “fit the system” (on both Pitt and the Isles). I was just wondering….is Duchene a better fit for the Isles system than Tavares? And is Hedman a better fit for what they need than either of them?

  46. avatar Larry Ziegler says:

Hey Chris off Topic question, my wife wants to take me to an away Islanders game for my 40th birthday, which is May 5th, we all know the Isles wont be playing then. which one would you chose between the two, Chicago or Detroit

  47. avatar Neil says:

CB, what is the proper classy procedure for dealing a player with a NTC? Do they make a proposed trade and then bring it to the player for approval, or ask the player where he would like to go but not provide the details of the trade?

  48. avatar Macch says:

    Fair enough

Besides the kids, Islanders didnt look so alive

  49. avatar Scott says:

    The Express (45)

From what I hear, Hedman needs his skating to get better for the NHL level. Biggest “knock” on him- but it’s still pretty good. Not sure if by draft time he will be the best fit…

But ya, the need for him (or someone like him) is there…

  50. avatar admin says:

    (45) The Express: By Friday, I promise to post a rant that should address your question. As you can probably tell, I think parts of the Tav-Hed-Duch debate are absurd. Can’t get into it now, but will in the next two days…CB

  51. avatar dmen77 says:

If you don’t play well and are still tied on the road after the 1st period, you can positives from it.

The Pens need these 2 pts badly so I think they will come out firing to start the 2nd, I hope our guys are ready for it.

  52. avatar Steve-O says:

Chris, any chance we will swing for the fences in UFA and take a serious shot at Bouwmeester, the Sedin twins or even Komisarek? Who are we looking at tonight for the Pens as potential UFAs?

  53. avatar Priest says:

Does anyone know of anywhere that is streaming tonights game online. The site I usually use is not showing any NHL games tonight (hopefully not a trend…) I would use NHL Centre Ice online, but when I tried to sign up at the start of the season I had a tonne of problems. I figured if just getting an account was so difficult, I couldn’t trust them to reliably stream games. I was also pissed off because I had been sent an email saying that it was $19.99/month, only to find out that was the American price and the Canadian price was $27.99 (this was when the dollars were within a couple cents), and didn’t include the playoffs (American price did, although you have to pay for an extra month, still works out to about $40 cheaper). A few days later I got the exact same email except the graphic said 27.99 this time.

Chris please feel free to delete this comment if it is out of line (but please don’t ban me, I love the site too much. If my post goes missing, I’ll never bring up anything similar again)

  54. avatar Jim M says:

CB out of Iggulden,McLean,Trever Smith, and Ben Walter could you see any of these guys being mainstays on the island next season..also what kind of upside does Jesse Joensuu as a second round pick a few years ago and standing at a 6’4 210 im interested to see how this kid pans out

  55. avatar Priest says:

wow, I didn’t realize how long my post was there. Sorry, I just got on a rant. (Trust me, I could’ve gone on too… :P ) Sorry again.

  56. avatar Cain says:

Thank you, Chris – I look forward to the article.

    The Isles started out flat.

I was surprised, but interested to see Yann get the start (or decide to start tonight with Toronto tomorrow.)

  57. avatar mikko makela says:

hey cb, do you think danis has proven himself to be a good backup for dp? imo he has more skill than joey mac! i would like to see him back next year.

  58. avatar Macch says:

OHL update team Islanders (Sarnia) up 4-2 Dibo 1 goal and assist, Katic 1 assist. Martin not in the lineup. Dont know why

  59. avatar Madchef says:

I live in Ct and the game is supposed to be on MSG plus 2 which they play on an overflow channel. Too bad tonight I am getting the Ranger feed and no isles. Great job comcast

  60. avatar DingoAteYoBaby@aol.com says:

Hey CB…since the Islanders have such a love fest with Sarnia…why not just make them an affiliate?

  61. avatar JT says:

Madchef (#45) – same thing happening in may part of CT with a different company – Charter Communications.

  62. avatar Adam says:

Have not heard much discussed about trading Martinek. Any thoughts or does his injury history hurt him (which is why they should trade him)?

  63. avatar TIM says:

CB,no Kevin Allen didn’t mention that, which suprised me cause most of us islander fans already know that,Not sure where he came up with this but i think it will be hard to move Billy G unless in the metro area or Boston thanks for taking my question

  64. avatar mm30 says:

    Martin is suspended.

  65. avatar Scott says:

    (52)

I thought this as well, specifically JayBo.

Great skater, good decision-maker. I wouldn’t be adverse to throwing 7, 7.5 mil at him. I think Garth will make a serious run at him. But then again, I think a lot of GM’s will…

    CB, any thoughts?

  66. avatar TIM says:

i heard Jaybo wants to play in Canada

  67. avatar billy says:

To Steve S. (from my post at the very top)

First of all Joey Mac lets in about 2 or 3 awful goals per game, you can forgive Danis or any other goaltender for blunders, but not if they are on a game by game basis.

Plus it’s not ridiculous to say Danis has already won the job because Joey Mac was only doing well when we had a more healthy lineup at beginning of year, Danis has been carrying shutouts into the 3rd on several occasions with way less talent in front of him, he literally has outplayed J-Mac.

Lastly, there is absolutely no certainty that Ricky will be back, i just hope to god he is.

  68. avatar 7th Woman says:

Rick will be back. I think he’d sell his soul to get back on the ice.

  69. avatar JOE RVC says:

chris whos the better goalie danis or mac ..who would you rather have as your goalie can u please give us an answer

  70. avatar isles316 says:

I agree with Billy. Danis has been good while Joey Mac has been below average since the start of December.

  71. avatar isles316 says:

7th Woman, I agree with you but will he be able to perform?

  72. avatar isles316 says:

And someone needs to level Malkin for running over Danis.

  73. avatar Macch says:

Oh my… Only to the Islanders, bergy and marty

  74. avatar dmen77 says:

wow this is unreal that we put those kinds of moves on Fleury and couldn’t put it in

  75. avatar Walygz says:

UGH…almost two breakaways and we miss. We need some finishers !!!

  76. avatar Daryl C says:

Bergy should ask Santa for a pair of hands this Christmas.

  77. avatar Jonw says:

I think you have to look at your roster and figure out who is going to be able to help you and make you better in the next 3-4 years, that’s the purpose of a rebuild. You don’t want to trade someone and spend the next three seasons trying to find a player of the same caliber to replace him. You also have to maintain a certain amount of pride and respect, and not trade away all your moveable veteran players for picks and unprovens. I think you right CB, there will be atleast one more. Hopefully its the right one and not something to look back on and regret.

  78. avatar 7th Woman says:

Isles316, Even Brian Burke recognizes Ricks natural talent. What we have to pray for is the talent of his doctors.

  79. avatar Mike says:

Comcast in CT has the Rangers on MSG+ AND MSG+ 2. Islanders nowhere to be found. We get no respect

  80. avatar Walygz says:

Keep Martinek. He’s a solid player(when healthy), who is signed for 2 more years at a cheap amount(1.5 mill) and he wouldn’t demand much in trade value anyway.

  81. avatar Mick Vukota says:

Chris: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Your blog is such a pleasure to read. Keep up the great work. PS: I very much enjoyed the Tortorella-Milbury gamesmanship story and eagerly await similar stories in future postings.

  82. avatar Macch says:

Flipping back and forth to the Rags game. Was Michellletti (sp) such a homer when he was with the Islanders? I dont remember him being this bad

  83. avatar b-ri says:

Like chris did before..i too made a mistake…I overlooked Jeffy T on the nhl boxscore. So he is not sitting in the press box. come on jeff show us something bud

  84. avatar admin says:

    (46) Larry Z: The Red Wings team and atmosphere rule, but I love the city of Chicago so much – and Detroit is, uh, not Chicago – I personally would go Hawks…CB

  85. avatar admin says:

    (47) Neil: I would expect the NYI and Guerin to talk it over and come up with a plan. That plan could be a team or two Guerin is okay with, or it could be the captain saying he’s not going anywhere. I hope to have more in my upcoming trade story and in the days ahead…CB

  86. avatar Macch says:

    What a terrible PP

  87. avatar beatlebailey says:

    CB:
We had a good give and take on who should be the Captain next year in comments a few days ago. Have you commented on who it should be? My vote is for Streit.

  88. avatar Macch says:

87 – I would think if the Isles trade Guerin, they are just going to go with 3 Assistant captains just because I believe they want to bring Guerin back next year

  89. avatar admin says:

    (52) Steve O: I don’t see Bouw signing here or the NYI going after the Sedins. The other guy, you can’t rule out. First he has to make it to July 1…CB

  90. avatar Islanders1984 says:

Maach i don’t see guerin coming back, he is geeting 4th line minutes now. He won’t want to play here next year

  91. avatar Macch says:

Why do you think he’ll be getting 4th line minutes? The Isles doe a good job of rolling at least 3 lines and he is def up there. Do you see the Isles making some big FA signings b/c I doubt that

  92. avatar block-buster says:

trade ko and this years 2 first round picks for sid the kid!

  93. avatar AM says:

CB, I know the Isles have played some great games in Pitt most notably in 93. I think one the most underrated and greatest Isles playoff games is Game 6 with the goal barrage and the crazy 3rd period. Any memories or comments on that game?

  94. avatar Devon says:

    CB-
I’ve asked this before: what kind of value does Matt Gilroy have? If he were draft eligible, where would he be taken? Is it like adding another 1st round pick? How about Hillen? How do they compare?

  95. avatar AM says:

and I know that game 6 was at NVMC but Game 7 is obviously the most remembered game in that series.

  96. avatar Madchef says:

David Volek top shelf where grandma hides the cookies…comes to mind

  97. avatar MJS says:

    CB-

I think it’s been mentioned in the comments here already, but how do you see the backup goalie situation panning out? Yann Danis has played very well since Joey Mac got hurt.In light of the job Mac and Danis have done in Ricky’s absence, do the Islanders re-sign Danis and MacDonald or do we see Garth find a veteran that can handle significant time on the off chance Ricky is hurt again?

  98. avatar Islanders1984 says:

AM speaking of great games. The isles greatest games DVD comes out soon

  99. avatar db says:

cb, abny chance if guerin gets traded we might see tambellini on the #1 power play for the rest of the year. i know he hasnt shown much 5 on 5 but every time he shoots the puck the goalie has a problem with the rebound or it hits the post. hoping he could at the very least be a power play specialist with that wrist shot.

  100. avatar TIM says:

penguins feed, they were talking about how the islanders have only won 6 games on the road then Bob Errey say’s “no wonder Campoli wanted out” what a clown those guys from the pitts feed are garbage Homers for sure

  101. avatar Mikko Makela says:

cb, why didnt the isles consider tortorella as their coach, instead of go-go? i have read that he interviewed and was interested in the job, unlike quenville who told the isles he was taking the year off, only to take the hawks job 2 weeks into the season!!

  102. avatar Mick Vukota says:

    Ahhh … 1993 … Tom Fitzgerald’s 2 SHGs in Game 6 … David Volek’s OTG in Game 7 … I’m 32 and still can’t believe that was half a lifetime ago … Really puts things in perspective …

  103. avatar admin says:

Friends, if I don’t address a particular question, it will usually be because I’ve written at length about it on the blog. One example is the question about what players from Bport will be with the NYI next season. Or in some cases it has been answered as recently as within this thread. Hope you understand…CB

  104. avatar isles316 says:

I’m glad the Isles didnt get Torts. He isn’t a long term solution. Players get tired of him throwing them under the bus in the media after every game.

  105. avatar admin says:

    (57) Mikko and (69) Joe RVC: Danis has been pretty good, but I don’t think anyone’s proven anything that makes them a no-brainer for next season…CB

  106. avatar DC23 says:

    CB:

Is it me or does Hunter look like a different player since he was hit into a loose door at the Garden. He doesnt seem to be the physical presence we are used to, and is hardly visable. Any thoughts?

  107. avatar TIM says:

Ferraro, was awesome that whole playoff and who can forget the pilon hit on Kevin stevens(out cold in mid air) love it miss the good ole days hope there’s more to come

  108. avatar admin says:

    (62) Adam: Martinek is in the mix…CB

  109. avatar matt says:

chris will the islanders try and sign anyone this summer?

  110. avatar Madchef says:

here ya Mick as I’m 33. CB do you think the Isles 1st round draft picks this year can yield them starters on next years team like Bailey was this? Thanks for the great stuff

  111. avatar TXNYI says:

CB – What percent chance would you give to McAmmond getting flipped to another team again before the deadline?

Incredible job on the blog, by the way.

  112. avatar Mikko Makela says:

thanks CB, i think what you are doing with this blog is outstanding, i hope that this site is a mainstay for isles fans for years to come!!!!

  113. avatar admin says:

    (87) beatlebailey: If Guerin is traded, I would hope the NYI would just go with As the rest of the season…CB

  114. avatar Rookie Isles says:

CB…first off, thank you for hosting THE best site for Islander fans.

One name I haven’t heard too often is Mike Cammalieri on Calgary. It’s rare 27 year old left wings who can score 30 are eligible as a Free Agent. A first line of Cammalieri-Tavares-Okposo could be a heck of a start in a rebuilding process. It’s no secret LW isn’t a strength of the current organization. Your thoughts?

  115. avatar Macch says:

Rookie thats a great idea, I hope we can get Cammallerri away from the Flames, I’ve heard and read he is really loving it up there

  116. avatar admin says:

    (81) Mick Vukota: Thanks for the kind words about the blog.

    (101) Mikko: Thank you, too. As for Tortorella, no one said anything. But I think it’s fair to assume both John and Snow knew he needed more of a “now” team and shook hands on it…CB

  117. avatar Bob Bassen says:

I get the Center Ice feed through Comcast and it is borderline blurry most of the time. Not to get political but hopefully the new Administration will reverse some of the previous administrations monopolistic practices including media consolidation.
    Go Isles!

  118. avatar islesnut says:

    CB,

This blog is amazing. Could Martinek and Guerin go in the same trade?

Totally off topic, but I think Hedman is going to get 40 points in the NHL next season.

  119. avatar admin says:

    (94) Devon: I believe Matt Gilroy could very well command a one-way, 4-year deal worth at least $1.5 mill a year…CB

  120. avatar admin says:

    (99) db: If it’s gotten to the point where Witt is playing on the PP over him, I don’t know why we’d ever expect Jeff to get first-unit icetime…CB

  121. avatar Macch says:

Following up with Gilroy, do you think the fact his family moved off Long Island closer to BU will hurt the whole home town team pitch?

  122. Chris, do you feel the use of Witt in front of the net on the Power Play is as ridiculous as the rest of us do? Nothing against Brendan, and yeah, hes a big guy, but this is clearly not a role he should be filling. Whats wrong with Hunter in front of the net? Or heres an idea, how about using Okposo where he would probably be the most dangerous?

  123. avatar rob says:

After reading all the scouting reports on Tavares and his great potential i find it hard to understand why So many people think that the Isles would pick Hedman over him/and think he would be a better fit? Am i wrong or have we not had a natural scorer and a guy who would create a buzz on the island in over 10 years? Isnt Tavares that guy over a defenseman?

  124. avatar admin says:

(110): Thank you. And yes, if they pick first or second overall, there’s a great chance the kid will play for the NYI next season…CB

  125. avatar 4195mary says:

Question. Whatever happened to Rob Hennigar. Canadian university hockey might be a step below junior, but I had high hopes for him. Is there any NHL hope for him at all?

  126. avatar Mick Vukota says:

Chris: Your Tortorella-Milbury story reminded me of Alan Hahn’s story about how the NYI’s plane was held up by Canadian customs in Toronto prior to Game 7. I’m sure you have countless similar stories to tell, and what I particularly enjoy is the timing i.e. when you decide to share such anecdotes with your fellow NYI fans. In short, I find these stories fascinating.

  127. avatar admin says:

    (121) Maach: I don’t think that matters at all. I also would not bank the summer on the NYI signing Gilroy. Even if they do, he’ll probably be a nice player but far from a stud – especially the first year…CB

  128. avatar isles316 says:

What channel is the game on Time Warner?

  129. avatar TIM says:

I’m from Calgary, don’t have many Islander fans on my side up here but i feel right home on your site CB thanks

  130. avatar admin says:

    (122) Hi Enrico. Oh yeah. Read the first two paragraphs of my story off the Carolina game last Thursday. I was pretty clear about it.

    CB

  131. avatar Mikey says:

Wow, 1.5 mil for 4 years would be a heck of a price to pay for a guy who has played zero games of pro hockey.

I think Gilroy’s situation is unprecedented. Most college free agents are less than 25 years old, so they are still bound by entry-level deals. It would be a huge risk to give him that deal. If he busts, we are left holding the bag. It will be interesting to see what happens.

  132. avatar mm30 says:

Without a doubt this has been Hillens’ best game as a NHLer.

  133. avatar Rookie Isles says:

Macch – what’s not to like…sell out every game, ride shotgun with Iginla. Hopefully we can tell Cammalieri with have Iginla at 20 and that he’ll get there. We can only hope.

  134. avatar mtrico says:

CB, good stuff on XM tonight, I enjoyed listening, regardless of the minor error about Hilbert. My question for you, is at this point, if you had to choose one for next season, would it be MacDonald or Danis? At this point, I think Danis has the edge assuming they don’t go outside the organization, but both have exceeded expectations.

  135. avatar Nick Classic says:

Macch – his family is very tight-knit, and I think they moved up there because his brother Kevin is now a freshman at BU. I can tell you he still has deep roots in this area (I’ve known that family since I was 5 years old – I knew his little brother Timmy, the one that passed away), and the pitch could still work.

As for deal parameters, I think he’d be worth it. Regardless, you’ll have at least 20 other teams offering him a contract, so you have to pay up in a competitive bid.

  136. avatar mm30 says:

CB- Do you think Gordon is going to get his own assistants next season?

  137. avatar Macch says:

What is Danis on tonight. The jerk might steal us this game lol

  138. avatar mm30 says:

Danis says taste the leather…he’s hot right now

  139. avatar isles316 says:

    They just jinxed Danis.

  140. avatar dmen77 says:

Danis is making like the game on Saturday night as an off-night for him. He has made some remarkable saves because he’s been so well positioned

  141. avatar Scott says:

    132 mm30

whole heartedly agree. Smart plays he s making.

What is Gilroy’s projection long term?

  142. avatar Nick Classic says:

dmen – that’s exactly it. That’s why I’m not a big fan of Joey Mac; his positioning is very weak and that’s what forces him to make the saves you see him make 3-4 times a game. The talent exists, but his positional game just isn’t there.

Danis has shown me a lot. I’d bring him back to start in Bridgeport, but I think I’d still want to make a pitch for a 1A goaltender to share the load with DP next season.

  143. avatar Bob Bassen says:

I think Jackman has earned a job for a while.

  144. avatar isles316 says:

I hope they keep Bergenheim. I truly can’t remember when he has taken a night off. Bad penalties at times yes, but the guy cares.

  145. avatar Walygz says:

It looks like Hillen has really seized the opportunity now that Campoli is gone. His last 8 games have been pretty strong.

Dare I call another shootout win for the Isles ?

  146. avatar dmen77 says:

CB – Is there any correlation between Campoli being traded and the Isles playing so well defensively.

Yes they gave up 40 shots to the Devils but I didn’t think they got too many scoring chances. The Pens also haven’t been getting many quality chances tonight.

Is it just Danis being in the zone or has the defense just come together since Campoli was moved?

  147. avatar Macch says:

Thank goodness they play again tomorrow night because this game is awful. Have fun with the write up for this one CB lol.

  148. avatar Walygz says:

    Nevermind…Pitt finally got their bounce.

  149. avatar Nick Classic says:

I’d like someone to knock Sykora on his ass for that little showboating display.

  150. avatar mm30 says:

Tough break…Lemieux-Jagr-Crosby-Malkin it’s like a legacy of Islander killers.

  151. avatar Walygz says:

I can’t really call that showboating. The Penguins need this win, and that was a big goal. Ovechkin does that after every goal.

  152. avatar mtrico says:

Hey, a good effort, but a loss that helps the cause and could potentially hurt the Rangers. Not the worst thing in the world.

  153. avatar Macch says:

CB if Witt can play the front of the net on the PP, any chance that DP will play the point if they continue to struggle next year lol? I’m sure he would like that

  154. avatar admin says:

The Danis-Mac thing has been brought up by a lot of readers and answered once, but let me take it further. When JMac was NHL Third Star for November, a lot of people wanted his contract extended. Danis has had some really good games, but to crown him after a few weeks when the NYI have been out of the playoff picture is premature. It was only a week ago everyone was killing Yann for the Gomez goal…CB

  155. avatar rob says:

Another game where we play well defensively and in net but just cant score – this is exactly why we need Tavares and not Hedman in the draft this year!! BTW – Danis deserved better

  156. avatar Pritchett54 says:

Danis hadnt let up a goal in 150 minutes? Wow, this guy really has been playing well. I like him better than mcdonald. Other than his first start or 2, Danis has been excellent.

  157. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

    Let the Tavedchuck coundown begin.

  158. avatar isles316 says:

The Isles were in this one and had a couple of chances.

Honestly for a team with such a bad record, they aren’t far away from winning a few of these games.

    We are getting there.

  159. avatar Scott says:

I’m sick the way that one ended. That’s the mark of the last place team. Night guys.

  160. avatar JOE RVC says:

best young player on the islanders is danis …trade mac bring up mannino

  161. avatar Madchef says:

I think Jmac is as entitled as Danis at this point for possible back up duty. Danis is playing with no sense of pressure as the isles season is over. At least when Jmac had his 3rd star the isles although not going anywhere were not mathmatically eliminated

  162. avatar JOE RVC says:

islanders have no hear no heart no heart no heart no heart……bunch of little kids with a man in the net

  163. avatar isles316 says:

MacDonald would be ok on a team like Calgary where he would only have to play 12-16 games or so.

  164. avatar TIM says:

i feel bad for Danis no goal support almost two shutouts in a row

  165. avatar admin says:

    (162) Joe RVC: How much money did you have on the game? CB

  166. avatar Cruicky says:

Do you fans realize how many games Joey Mac has been one of the stars of this year for your Islanders??

  167. avatar admin says:

    (136) mm30: At this point, I do not know the status of the assistants or what Scott’s wishes are. Still 22 games left, so no one’s going to talk about it. Both may be in the final year of their deals, but I’m not 100% sure…CB

  168. avatar JOE RVC says:

    none..just cant watch american idol..

  169. avatar isles316 says:

Cruicky #166. No he hasn’t, lots of Islanders fans have appointed him that because he did a nice job for a while. His stats are terrible (not all his fault) and any time a team has two massive losing streaks and the same goalie is in net it shows me that A. the team stinks and B. The goalie is not capable of stealing a game.

  170. avatar Madchef says:

cause winning this game would do anything for us. As I have said and many others entertain and lose the game get that 1st pick

  171. avatar Cruicky says:

I’m talking stats. Stats have a lot to do with the way the team is playing. I’m talking about the number of times he was one of the game stars this year. Even in a lose.

  172. avatar Bob Bassen says:

    POST 153…rotlmfao!

  173. avatar admin says:

If this is going to be a battle about Nova Scotia’s own, we should probably call it a night…CB

  174. avatar Strummer's Army says:

CB, I know you said you expect the Isles to make at least one more trade. I am hoping for MUCH more. How many of the following are you expecting gone by next week?
Guerin, Weight, Sim, Tambs, Witt, Martinek, Geravis, McAmmond, Hilbert?

  175. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Man, that was not a good game by either team tonight. Fluery just got one of the easiest shut outs he’ll ever have.

  176. avatar Bob Bassen says:

That last 1:17 tonight was a cluster *you know what…*

  177. avatar admin says:

    (175) Strummer: I have to believe there will not be much of a bidding war for more than half of those guys. I should have more on the trade deadline by tomorrow…CB

  178. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

CB, I got to finally listen to your spot on XM today and it was great to hear so much about the Isles. You had real good points on Hilbert and Park. I am curious on what your teased stories will be for the next few days. I think it is really a coin flip right now with Mac and Yan. You need to ride who is hot, and although the standings don’t show it Yan is that guy right now.

  179. avatar JT says:

Hi CB. Did the Isles make a run at Blake Wheeler last year? He would’ve made a nice addition to the young core of this team.

  180. avatar admin says:

    (180) JT: Wheeler wanted Boston. Took less money than Phoenix offered to play there…CB

  181. avatar TIM says:

had a good time tonight CB everybody has good questions, lots of questions i wanted to ask you were already answered thats the great thing about this site ISLANDER FANS WANT TO KNOW

    thanks

  182. avatar Mick Vukota says:

I’ll be shocked if there’s a taker for Sim … Then again, I was shocked when the Wild took Simon last year …

  183. avatar Bob Bassen says:

Fun being a Leaf fan for the night. Imagine having your season depending on Sean Avery riding over the hill on a horse to save you? Wow.

  184. avatar Ryan says:

I’m not really sure what people expect Garth Snow to do…you really think people are going to take all of these guys off our hands??? It takes two to tango and in order to trade these guys other GM’s actually are going to have to want these players. I think we would be very hard pressed to find a team who wants a Jeff Tambellini or a Jon Sim right now. We have to start getting realistic here

  185. avatar Steve-O says:

Great night for the future of the Isles! Islanders lose, Sharks lose and Leafs win!
A couple observations over recent games:
    - Sim deserves to be a regular.
    - McAmmond can be a useful vet. to have around (A poor man’s Sutter)
    - We must be able to do better than Gervais
    - Bergenheim has a bright future

  186. avatar Mick Vukota says:

Bob: Just wait for the hypocrisy once Avery is back on Broadway …

  187. avatar Mick Vukota says:

    Agreed Ryan …

  188. avatar nyislanders93 says:

Just giving everyone an update on what is going on with prospects or future prospects. Sarnia won 6-2, DiBenedetto had 1 goal and 3 assists. Katic had 1 goal and 1 assist. The Knights won 3-2, Tavares had a goal. Bridgeport lost 3-2 in a shootout, Joensuu had a goal.

  189. avatar 303Joe says:

I see one of the top heavyweights in the NHL George Laraque is available. He is signed for atleast 2 more year if not 3 at 1 million a year. This is one guy the Isles should look at and this would take care of 1 need for this team. Hopefully they are lucky enough in the draft to get another. And please hopefully nobody is gonna tell me we have Tim Jackman as our tough guy. Having Laraque on this team would give this team a little swagger knowing they have one of the toughest guys in the league to back them up. Go get him Garth. I’m gonna dump my pal an email I’ll elt you know what he says.

  190. avatar Aim says:

CB I had posted earlier on this but do you know anything about all of the layoff thruout the NYI last week. I had heard that Wang is going to go bare bones as far as who is left in the front office and hockey ops depts. I was told ticket people fire dancers (no loss) and the guy who takes care of the visiting teams locker room were all let go among others any scoop??

  191. avatar dmen77 says:

CB – Does Danis’ performance the past 2 games reward him with another start tomorrow night?

He had those 4 or 5 starts in a row when Joey Mac was hurt and Gordon put Mac back in for a game….and if I’m not mistaken, Danis’ next start was not very good. I can’t remember the opponent off-hand.

  192. avatar isles316 says:

CB, Always curious, but why did the Isles never keep Kipp Miller around? The guy always produced and produced in a big spots. He had 7 points in the Toronto series and then that was it.

  193. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Chris, do you believe Snow & Gordon now understand the need for a bigger and more physical team?

Does NHL rules limit the amount of time the team can spend together and train during the offseason? Not on ice but off?

  194. avatar Bob Bassen says:

Sort of agree post 191….although Laraque has a reputation as being very lazy. Sort of wonder what his motivation would be like late in his career and playing for a yet another team and possibly a losing one at that. It’s seems Gordon doesn’t particular like fighting either. What’s Rupp’s status?

  195. avatar Strummer's Army says:

I am shocked Bergy hasn’t had lazik surgery yet! Can have your contacts messing up. I had it in 2003 and it has been amazing!

  196. avatar admin says:

    (192) Aim: A few office staffers were let go, nothing more than is going on in the world, in the NHL or even in a money-printer like the NFL. No scouts or hockey staff. Your word of bare bones is inaccurate…CB

  197. avatar rob says:

Chris i acutally have an interview with the Islanders for summer internship this upcoming. Michelle Calabrese ontacted me. Any pointers, or tips, advice, information on people i might be speaking too. It will all be such a great help. If you can respond, you can shoot me an email at ——————. Again, if you have a time, i know you are not an employee anymore, but i thought id give it a shot. Thanks.

  198. avatar Aim says:

CB Thanks for the info I am glad to hear that BTW caught the victoriaville drummondville game while I was in Canada Poulin is injured and did not dres

  199. avatar admin says:

(192): No idea, and forgive me for being a duch but I don’t care all that much. Lol.

(193): The Kipper was a journeyman. The Islanders kept him around more than anyone.

(194): I would think that goes without saying. I would think they’ve known that for a while, but it takes time to get the right guys. If you mean fighters too, that’s a different subject and I’m too tired to get into that one again. Especially with you. LOL…CB

  200. avatar admin says:

    (198) Rob: my first piece of advice is don’t put your personal email on the Internet for everyone to see. Send me an email at the address on the site and I’ll do anything I can to help…CB

  201. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Rob, go out and purchase the book Knock Em Dead. It will have you VERY prepared if you read the entire thing. It has every question asked during interviews and how to answer it among other things.
    http://www.knockemdead.com/

    Good luck!

  202. avatar derek says:

Just catching up on the comments, bummer that Marty’s part of the trade talks.

  203. avatar isles316 says:

Thanks CB. That is true,I just always liked him.

  204. avatar Strummer's Army says:

    lol to 200

  205. avatar StevieL says:

Hey CB, great coverage! Is it me or is Bailey really struggling? Might he be better going back down the rest of the year to gain some confidence back. Not much happening for him!2 goals on the year despite plenty of PP and ice time. What really concerns me is only 43 shots in 46 games! Gotta shoot to score. I think he may need to go back and regain some confidence!

  206. avatar Mick Vukota says:

Good night everyone and thanks again Chris for chatting with us in real time. Very much appreciated.

  207. avatar mm30 says:

Couple of points to call it a night.

    1) Danis is not a young player

    2) Stan Fischler just declared that the Devils should hold out for a 1st rd pick at the deadline for Clemmenson…Sure Stan i’ll give you a first rounder for a journeyman backup who had 2 1/2 good months in the NHL and also will be an unrestricted FA.

  208. avatar admin says:

(206): Yes, Bailey is. I’ve already been down that path by writing (incessantly) that he should have played in the WJC. The experts will tell you it makes no sense for him to play against juniors again in Windsor. I am not an expert, as I prove daily. And on that note, so long for now…CB

  209. avatar dmen77 says:

Thanks as always Chris for staying up with us all tonight. What would we all do this rough season without your blog.

We are another step closer to #1 or #2 and we helped the Pens gain a point on the Rags.

    Good night everyone!

  210. avatar isles316 says:

CB, Can the Isles send Bailey back to juniors or are they out of options at this point in the season?

  211. avatar christian says:

CB, about the the lighthouse how can Wang be sure he can get businesses to fill all the new offices propossed in his plan and has anyone really addressed the issue of mass transit? as it is there are no LIRR stops close to the coliseum and only one or two bus routes that make stops therel.

  212. avatar isles316 says:

Christian, a rail link from Mineola station is part of the project.

  213. avatar jay dugan says:

do you think that if the team starts trading off players earlier (like campoli and Comrie) than other teams they can get more or less in return? They also saved a few bucks more by trading earlier.

  214. avatar Larry says:

for the lighthouse info, check todays newday, they spoke of a redesigned meadowbrook exit, and a shuttle going to the train station, as well as a possible trolley path.

  215. avatar jay dugan says:

i could have worded my post/question better, sorry

  216. avatar christian says:

thanks Islesfan but that still doesnt answer my question about fill space in the office buildings.CB, do you have any information on how they intend to guarentee that business will move in?

  217. avatar Nick says:

CB, would a trade like Witt and Tambellini for Lopul and a 2009 1st round pick be realistic?

  218. avatar b-ri says:

rick who?! Danis…too bad he couldnt hold on to keep that shutout streak going, but 27 saves aint too shabby. Too bad he had no offense in front of him again. 1 goal to the pens (i don’t care if they didn’t have sidney crybaby) is pretty good in my book. Sign him up for next year as #2 IMO

  219. avatar LOUIE says:

    Steve S said,
How could you possibly say that Danis has beat Joey Mac for the backup role NEXT season? That is ridiculous.
First of all, you don’t know if either guy will be here. Secondly, I assume you missed the goal Danis allowed to Scott Gomez last week. Lastly, can we even be certain that Ricky will be ready to go?

I would take Danis over Mac any day. Yea he gave up a bad goal but his save % is .922 Better than DP ever was.

  220. avatar Islander505 says:

CB and 1984….let me add a little insight on the Coyote/Glendale situation as pertains to The Lighthouse. (I’ve been there for hockey and football…I have spent a lot of time playing baseball all over the Valley of the Sun)
In a way, the situations are comparable.
What Glendale has in that entire complex is pretty much what Wang is trying to do in Uniondale. A mega complex that combines sports attractions, office space, and housing, and other entertainment (nice restaraunts, nightlife etc).

(Side note, the arena is an OUTSTANDING hockey venue, The Isles would be wise to check out the plans that were used to build that place. Very modern, very roomy, great sight lines all over, yet still maintains a sense of intimacy that is lacking in many other “new” hockey arenas).
But there is a major difference between Glendale and The LightHouse.
    LOCATION.
Glendale is too far from the major population centers of the Valley. When they began building out there, it was surrounded by cotton fields (yes, they grow cotton in AZ).
There was nothing out there. There are communities and developments going up, but not enough nor fast enough to fill a 20,000 seat arena on a consistent basis.
And while the highway system to reach it is very good (The 101), traffic in and out of the arena can look like the Meadowbrook before and after games.
It takes most people in the Phoenix area an hour or more to travel to and from, and then more time dealing with the in/out traffic. And while those lenghy drives may occur on LI anyway, the concept of those commute times are anathema in the “wide open western” part of the country.

At some point, as the area around the Glendale Project develops, and a larger population/business base migrates out there, that problem will go away.
In the meantime, it’s killing the Yotes.
(That and the fact that the Valley of the Sun is all about baseball).

The Isles do not have the “location” issue with the LH Project. Traffic sure, but the number of people living within a 15 mile radius of Uniondale DWARFS what lives within 15 miles of Glendale.

In Glendale, they took an attitude of “if we build it they will come”, and eventually they will.
In Uniondale, it’s more like “Hey, let’s build it, they are already here”.

Brooks Simpson, who comments here occasionally and on regularly in Newsday, lives there, attends games on a regular basis there, and would probably have better insight.

    Cuz….this is just my opinion.

  221. avatar togo says:

can you guys just be patient and not expect these redic trades? if they do trade, its gonna be some small detail no one cares about. the campy comrie trade is the biggest we’ll have. end of story.

  222. avatar Gary says:

221 – Islanders505 – I grew up on LI and moved to Phoenix when I was 22 (4 years ago) and you are dead on about the comparisons that you made between here and LI.

  223. avatar Nick Classic says:

Christian – on the commercial space.

First of all, some of these facilities will be specialized (like the planned Sports Technology Center), so they would probably serve as a magnet for any company or entrepreneur who wants to play in this space. Aside from that, there has been talk of many different things, including enticing a larger company to serve as an anchor tenant, but it’s all pretty premature right now. The Coliseum is first followed shortly after by the Grand Canal, so we’re talking a few years before these buildings are tenant-ready.

  224. avatar Bob E from RVC says:

Witt has to be being shopped. He is getting PP time, he is pinchin in and taken a alot more shots on goal.

  225. avatar Chris TMC says:

Disagree. If he was “being shopped” they are going to show him doing what they know he can do best, not necessarily trying him out doing things he has never even done. I think its just them trying things out because this is the time and this is the season in which you try different things.

  226. avatar Marc from Troy says:

CB (154)… Minor correction: not EVERYONE was killing Danis for that goal. Some of your more level-headed readers were treating it for what it was – a bad goal that EVERY goalie lets in now and then – and that, based upon the progress he’s shown over the last several weeks, it was more than likely he would bounce right back and continue his strong play. I would say that the last two games seem to support that thinking.

  227. avatar Marc from Troy says:

nyislanders93 (189)… More on the Bridgeport game last night… I was on the road listening on the radio, and the players repeatedly brought up by the Albany broadcasters as dominant for B’Port included Jeremy Colliton (outstanding on faceoffs and PK), Chris Lee (on defense), and Jesse Joensuu. Really sounds like Colliton has gotten to the point where he’s too good for the AHL and needs/deserves an extended shot with the Isles. Hope something happens at the deadline that allows this.

  228. avatar Trippstar says:

RE: Phoenix, I was listening to sports radio on this very topic. This cannot be compared to the islanders because Glendale pushed for the stadium so hard and they thought they could build around that stadium. Some callers from the phoenix area said it takes an hour to get to glendale i traffic, it is nowhere near downtown phoenix, which is the major issue with the franchise. Logistically the arena is killing the franchise. Just thought i would add some insight.

  229. avatar christian says:

thanks nick but also is there cause for concern with the financing for the project since Wang seems to be looking for people to help pay for it? and what is the time table for the whole project?
