How do you respond to a fraud?
Do you even try?
Do you theorize about how wild Islanders rumors are gold – they’re gold, Jerry! – on the information superhighway?
Do you point out how the fraud has been 99% wrong and 99.9% hallucinatory (the latter could be from his alleged days in rock and roll).
Do you link to all the stories written by pros questioning his integrity and even his life story?
Do I re-live the tale of how he was once purposefully mis-directed on a bogus Islanders free agent rumor and completely took the bait?
Do I openly speculate about the fraudulent site having knowledge that I’m out of the country right now and thinking this might be a good time to blind-side the fans with a rumor destined to provoke a lot of Visits?
I’ve spoken to the Fraudmeister a few times. One thing he always tells me is how his site is supposed to be “fun,” how he’d never report anything that would hurt anyone. Really?
Do I discuss how the Islanders once caught the fraud back-timing his reports to make it look like he had a trade scoop before anyone else?
Do I even go there – do I even think about…uh, aw, I can’t. I’ll keep that one in my hip pocket.
How do you respond to a fraud?
Do you even try?
Yes, in the case of life-altering fraudulence like this, you do. The people of Islanders Country deserve an answer. There’s nothing here, folks. Could he have at least done a better job making up a pricetag?

Go search those websites with either Eklund or Dwayne, you may be surprised what you find out about the fraud.

Regardless, Fraud is a moron. Also, how he said Brooklyn is an option. HA! Brooklyn doesn’t even look good for the Nets at the moment. That just made me laugh. That trade rumor with Lecavlier to the Rangers is pretty funny too. The Rangers aren’t going to trade Marc Staal (who they just signed to an extension if i’m not mistaken). This man is a moron and a true disappointment. My only thought is that his sources are the computer GMs in NHL 09, because half of the stuff he writes is just plain rediculous.

I mean it really seems like some of you have personal hatred for this guy. ive read all the allegations against him and even i believe every single one (for the record i believe about 75%) i still wouldnt understand it. I take his rumors with a grain of salt. enjoy some of the writing of some of the bloggers on there. and really like the fantasy games on there.

So the lease now keeps them here until 2015. So what?
The scenario in which they would move would have the Lighthouse rejected by the Town sometime in the next year, and soon after Wang pulls the plug on the project. He won’t go back to the drawing board and agree to do an arena-only rebuild, no matter how many times some posters here tell you that’s what he should do. Not going to happen!
So he’ll start entertaining offers for the team, getting ready to bolt at the end of the lease. In the meantime, he’ll spend the salary cap minimum, put a poor product on the ice and collect lots of high draft picks. Sometime in early April 2015, the last game will be played, and Hamilton, or Kansas City, or someplace else will then get the benefit of all those highly-touted young players and the four-cup legacy. (Wonder if they’ll keep the numbers retired?)
What’s not going to happen is a situation where the Lighthouse is killed, and Wang then says the the county, “OK, I’ll just redo the Coliseum.” It would still take you 2-3 years to redo the arena, and you’re that much closer to being free of the existing lease anyway. So just because you can’t leave in 2010 doesn’t mean you’re never going to leave.
That lease only keeps the team here until 2015. Beyond that, it’s irrelevant.
The problem with the Eklund story is that it talks about Brooklyn, which is patently ridiculous and undercuts any legitimacy the story might have. As CB has noted, the Brooklyn project is in even worse shape than the Lighthouse.

I’ve never posted there … and the only times I’ve been on that site since 2006 (wow … it’s actually 3 years now) … was being linked there from the Islander Blog Box for BD’s blog. Otherwise Eklund’s site is a piece of trash …. please fans .. fans of all teams .. keep away from his site … it only empowers him … even if you go there to read other blogs …. you are empowering him.
I think the reason the NHL ever gave him some legitimacy was for 2 reasons … publicity … and sometimes they like the smoke screens he puts out regarding rumours ….
His Islanders for sale rumour however is crossing the line… and slanderous in a way … keep a cool head everyone … EK is not goin to be the one scooping a sale of any NHL club.

Chris, has there ever been any consideration given to letting the public own a stake in the NYI (similar to the arrangement in Green Bay w/ the Packers)? It might be a terrible investment now, but once the Lighthouse gets up and running and the NYI have a better product on the ice, this could be a big money maker. I also think in many respects the Islanders are more of a public trust organization than alot of other sports franchises. I’m no investment guru by any means, but it seems to work in Green Bay and I know the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Indians once sold shares in their teams, not sure of what the result was however, thoughts anyone?

I have a few responses to the article written about my reporting on the RUMOUR that the NY Islanders are for sale. As is my deal in these situations I don’t battle nor belittle other writers for their opinions, sources, or perspectives.
There is NO ONE more connected to the Isles than Botta. He is the best at what he does and what he has done is what I wish more people would do…give us all a better peak inside.
What I wrote was a response to a rumor that the NY Islanders were for sale for under 100 million. This was told to me by a very good source. I run a positive site, as many of you know, and I thought long and hard before reporting this. When I did report it, I clearly did so with the NY Islanders fans in the front and center of my mind. In my story I praised the fanbase. I know your passion all too well. I even published the Lighthouse petition address.
I only reported this rumor because I felt that IF it were true and went unreported the fans would never have gotten a last chance to make their stand. If it isn’t TRUE, then great. All is well on the Island.
In recent years we have seen stories that reporting on stories involving team potential sales has focused a fanbase. In Pittsburgh, it was the trip to Kansas City. In Nashville, it was many things done by Balsillie.
It was these incidences that gave the politicians the juice needed to take the important last steps. In some cases, when you cover a team really closely, you are put into a difficult spot. It has happened to me in Philly and elsewhere. I get it. I have nothing but respect for Chris and his connections and opinions on the NY Islanders.
I ask you all to remember last year when I broke that Doug MacLean and others were in talks to buy the Lightning. The reaction was overwhelmingly denial from Tampa. A few days later they held a presser. A few weeks later it fell apart.
I am not saying it is a given and the Isles will be moved.. I am simply saying that I feel a responsibility to Islanders fans too strongly to ignore something like this.

Thanks for your support. Though I’m not afraid to say you have some of the WORST predictions so your “very good source” -to me- could be your wild imagination. Until I see something official (oh i don’t know, maybe a newspaper) that Says Wang indeed is selling the team, then i’ll eat my own words. However, I’m optimistic that Wang has no intensions on selling this team and that the Lighthouse project WILL be built – it’s just a matter of time from those buffoons at TOH.
Again, as a die-hard Islanders fan struggling to survive on Long Island and refusing to leave, I thank you for your words of support. But to make a claim that my beloved team is for sale with little or NO evidence is absurd.

I think when CB gets back he should be given the opportunity to interview EK … let EK air out allll his reasonings for writing that rumor and of course then CB will give us the skinny on what he feels EK’s intent was.
IFFF .. EK was really looking out for us … CB will be able to tell us straight up.
A lot of other NHL fans have the misperception that the Isles don’t have a strong following … but they are dead wrong … living here in Central NJ there are a lot of casual fans formally from NYC and even native Jersey folks that follow the team … but from a distance … winning will get them back to spending money and time to travel to NVMC … it will be near impossible to get a ticket to a game again.

I don’t think Ek gets it. He said that the Islanders are for sale, he said that they could be had for less than $100,000,000.
Then he goes on to say that no one is more connected than Chris Botta.
Chris Botta HUMILATES Eklund…why? Because there is NO TRUTH to this rumour, according to, as Ek put it, the most connected person to the Islanders.
So this means that Ek has been officially ousted…but no one will care. No one realizes that this is proof. Eklund is still, basically, asserting that he heard it from a very good source…but according to CB this source doesn’t even EXIST.

My impression is that people who buy into The Unnamed buy into him whole hog, and everybody else thinks he’s a joke. I’ve heard interesting theories about him aiming to dupe the most innocent (youngest?) fans into paying for his “insider information” while excusing himself to legit hockey figures as “oh, it’s just fun!” (The sucking up to “Top 5″ Isles fans first was a classic, repeated trick of his.)
Who knows. But the documentation of how fishy so much of his “info” and behavior (back-dating, multiple identities, etc.) is goes so far back, I stopped paying attention to his columns a long, long time ago. It’s fun to speculate about potential trades — it’s another thing to assert you know something you don’t. As a fan writer myself, that’s the last territory I’d slime my way into.
Even if today’s rumor of the day was legit (and if it was, he’d surely backdate his post), would anyone really treat it as reality if that’s where you heard it? It’s just a shame his rep shadows some of the other writers hosted by his site.

There are only a few people that truely understand the whole process of getting the Light House project done … Nick Classic understands the timeline and the complete process and knows as I do that what is holding up the works is the SEQRA (sp) … Kate Murray’s side show act is really nothing till the SEQRA is done … so she isn’t taking a position … just like a politician … if you really want info on the whole process just go to the light house site … or go to Nick’s Let There Be Lighthouse site that CB plugged a week or so ago.
You can say all you want about Wang … but the guy loses $20M a year on avg. with this team … Real Estate deal or not … that is commitment … and he deserves to make some $$$$ when all is said and done … owning a professional sports team may seem like a hobby to some … but fact is it’s a business … and businesses exist to make money.

Yeah, Eklund really does deserve to get hammered. I can’t really determine if what he does is good for hockey or actually dumbs down the fanbase.
A lot of his stuff is complete BS unless he takes it from a reputable source. Even so, he still attempts to pass it off as his own.
I don’t like the fact that Eklund charges money to mislead people. He’s literally selling the Brooklyn Bridge and there are no repurcussions.

We would like our team to stay where it is, and whether or not you want to write it off as “feeling bad for the billionaire” the Islanders cannot exist without stable revenue streams. Charles Wang has not done anything in bad faith, and considering we’ve had owners like Gluckstern and Milstein who did everything in bad faith and really were just in it for the land, I can’t see or support your position in the least.
Eklund – if you come back here, anyway. I do want to sincerely thank you for all the times you stood up for this beleaguered fan base, and your link to the petition that I wrote led to a massive spike in signatures we could not have possibly gotten on our own. However, you know you crossed a line here. If you want to help, posting what you did is not the way to do it.

I didn’t get banned. I used to get kicked out of their regualarly. I’ve tuned my posting style to push the right buttons on people and fly under the radar.
They can’t ban me legitimately for squat. And yeah, I know how the troll posses work on the site to get others banned.
I am hated on that site by the right people and very proud of it.

And 19 Isles, as usual, is dead right. The SEQRA (State Environmental Quality Review Act) process is still going, and nothing can be done without it. It also can’t be rushed because that could lead to a challenge, and a challenge throws us back to square 1. For all the head games the Town of Hempstead is playing, nothing can be done until SEQRA is over.
However, once it’s over we need to be on top of things and make sure the public hearings are held in a timely manner. If Kate Murray indefinitely delays the mandatory public comments, THAT will be a sign, not what we have now. Let’s keep supporting our team and making our voices heard.

First it was the Isles as front runner for Gaborik
Then it was Kovalchuk.
Now it the team for sale.
There have been some other really stupid ones this season as well. I think Weight to Edmonton was an E4.

GUYS, Joseneau had another fight tonight. He was actually the smaller guy, even at 6’4″ 236lbs. He rocked the guy early, who is a more experienced fighter and then they both got tied up. Can’t wait for him to be full time with his talent, size and willingness to protect teammates.

Normally, I do not knock another team on an Islanders blog, but after watching the Rangers tonight I can’t help be comment upon how little respect for themselves the Rangers have. How could Renney let Steve V absorb 10 goals?? How does a team just quit in the middle of the third period like that. This bunch have no heart and no soul.
Right here, right now, I will predict that the Rangers will not make the playoffs and that Pittsburgh will overtake them by the end of the month.

EK just makes a bunch of crap up and passes it off as “well informed sources tell me that Mats Sundin is sitting on the sh**er and texting with the Rangers, Canucks, Thrashers, Jokerit, and some team in South Africa on his Blackbury about a 10 mil deal”.
