TRUE VALUE: Bill Guerin
Captain and 400-goal scorer available

Our month-long series analyzing the value of available Islanders and the possibility of a deal before the March 4 trade deadline. Previous entries can be read on Doug Weight, Mike Comrie and Brendan Witt.
Player: Bill Guerin, RW and Islanders captain
The Story: Signed to a two-year contract in the summer of 2007, Guerin was named captain at his introductory press conference and – as has been repeatedly written in this space – has been as good a leader as the Islanders could have hoped for. Although his icetime has been cut by a few minutes with the Islanders’ focus on youth in the home stretch, the 38-year old Guerin is still averaging 17:21 a game for the season.
As much as his leadership remains highly respected, there has been the sense around the Islanders the last few weeks that the captain may be in his final season with the club. Guerin could be in demand at the trade deadline and the Islanders need to stockpile draft picks and prospects. Guerin also must be wondering if he wants to end an outstanding career on a team missing the playoffs two years in a row, and maybe more.
Stats: Guerin leads the Islanders with 15 goals and is third in scoring with 34 points. On the power play he has 4 goals and 10 assists.
Pluses: Leadership and experience in spades. He owns a Stanley Cup ring as a youngster with the Devils. On a contending team, Guerin would be an ideal fit on a second-unit power play. Durability is not a problem. He has accomplished the awe-inspiring feat of being the only Islander on this injury-plagued team to play in every game this season.
Minuses: Potential trade partners would make a case of his 38 years. That is, until they acquired him and then raved about how Guerin could be their “final piece.” And if any team was watching last night’s disaster against Carolina, let’s just say no Islander upped his trade value.
Trade Hurdle: We took a little long to get to this important little detail: Guerin has a full no-move clause. Those close to the veteran will tell you that as of mid-February he had little interest in being acquired as a rental. As recently as two seasons ago, he went that route to San Jose. Guerin’s confidants say his preference has been to sign with the Islanders for another season or two. Whether anything has changed recently or will as the March 4 trade deadline nears, we’re not sure. Guerin told Point Blank earlier this season that he hopes to play in the NHL past his 40th birthday.
Of course, two events must happen for Guerin to be traded: teams have to be seriously interested in him, and Guerin has to approve a trade to at least one of them. All of the cards are Guerin’s. For example, he’d be well within his rights to tell any team acquiring him that he’ll only go if they gave him a contract for next season.
The GM Sales Pitch: “You’re getting Bill Guerin. I don’t have to tell you what that means.”
True Value: Since it’s Guerin’s call, the Islanders’ asking price could be diminished. A first round pick or top prospect would seem out of the question. So you know what that means. (Since some readers get really irked every time I say an Islander is worth a second-rounder, I’ll end it there). And do you remember this Saturday afternoon conversation?
PB View: The Islanders should include Guerin and his representative in every step of the process. They should show him this respect not just because he holds the no-move and all the cards, but also because he is their captain and has given the franchise two solid years.
Prediction (as of Feb. 20*): Too much has to happen for this to get done. We predict Guerin ends up not being moved, and then is signed by another team in the summer. Because of the no-move clause – which the Islanders included to get Guerin to New York – they will receive nothing in return for him.
Until we hear that the Guerin camp and Islanders management is getting together to seriously discuss his future, that’s our prediction and we’re sticking to it.
*True Value maintains the right to routinely change our predictions between now and the week before the trade deadline.

Obviously Guerin is already thinking about next season…guess in a way he can’t be blamed. I am sure that he and his agent are engaged in the potential scenarios. If he is confident that the team (s) he would like to play for will be there for him this Summer than yeah, expect him to milk the rest of the season and then poof! Find it hard to believe that he or anyone wouldn’t wave a NTC to finish out the season on a cup run. Is Guerin really going to be in THAT big of a demand this as a free agent this Summer?!?
-
That would suck big time, if he is not dealt, and leaves at the end for nothing.
-
Guerin has 2 goals in his last 23 games with 17 penalty minutes. He has 1 assist in his last 15 games. What exactly is he bringing to this team? His physical play has dropped considerably. He has played every game? I believe he has taken more than a few nights off, even though he dressed. He has to be shopped and if he stays, the “C” goes to a young guy next year! It is time to move on!!
-
Wah….I don’t want to go play meaningful hockey for someone else…Just go for the 2 months (maximum) and posssibly resign with the Islanders for 1 year….I don’t want to hear the family angle (its not 6 months)…b/c if I was in his position this might be his last time playing in the playoffs, and why wouldn’t anyone want to do that.
Possible destinations: Pittsburgh, Edmonton, Vancouver, Minnesota, Boston, Calgary.
Maybe they could package him and Weight (should be back by 3/24, if not earlier) to sweeten the deal
-
If guerin isnt traded i will be pissed. He sucks and hes too old and should get a clue we dont need him. He should be very happy to leave.
-
If the scouts see what we have seen the last 25 games then we will be lucky to get a 4th rd pick for him. He can’t handle the puck, his shot accuracy is comical and he almost always kills the powerplay as soon as the puck bounces off his hands of stone.
-
Having a no-trade clause really hampers Garth’s chances of moving BG we can’t blame garth for not being able to move him, guess you could blame him for including the clause to his contract but Guerin has earned the right to have the clause in his contract if he leaves long island for nothing i won’t be suprised
-
Did any of you even read what CB said?
The Islanders do not have any of the poser here, BG does- and there is NO REASON for him to do things that would jeopardize his own career just to make any of you who suddenly hate him any happier! -
Is it possible that Guerin wants out of Long Island? I’m sure he is a great guy in the locker room but he looks lifeless on the ice lately. At this point, I dont want him back next year.
-
CB- It was a pleasure meeting you at the game last night. I wanted to pick your brain some more but I realized you were with your boys and didn’t feel like intruding. Keep up the good work.
-
If Guerin doesn’t want a trade that’s his choice you can’t blame him for that he’s earned that right that being said it would be nice if BG would wave his clause to help out the islanders for the future but i wouldn’t be mad or upset if he didn’t he’s a classy player so you have to give him that
-
Even if he were to agree to leave – the way he has played recently, I can’t see us getting any reasonable value for him.
I think CB’s final conclusion is correct – he plays out the season and then goes somewhere else.
-
Agreed, TIM.
-
I guess i dont undrestand his supposed stance of not wanting to waive. at 38 go to a sharks or bruins with a real chance to win a cup. he has no ties or real loyalty to the islanders. two years as captain is not really anything. I guess on these power houses maybe he is a pp guy and third liner. but in my opinion for him at least better to be on a team with a chance and demoted to third line duty because there are better players than you and not because youth needs to play. If i were guerin and the bruins came calling or the canadiens i would not have to think twice.
-
The true team vets should have no problem moving on. They will understand that the team must get a return fir the services they provide. If you are going into UFA, expect to be moved by the Islanders if you are over 26 years old. Stay young and build.
-
Disagree. People need to realize that players get NMCs by giving up money, years, etc. They dont get them for nothing, and they dont give them up for nothing.
-
That’s a great photo. I think the Rags could really use a guy like Guerin, especially on the PP. As much as you hate to deal with the Blueskirts, I think that would make sense.
The Bruins would be a good fit, too. What about a kid like Levi Nelson and a second rounder?
-
could’nt have said it better TMC
-
Can’t wait for the Jon Sim TRUE IN-VALUE!
-
Guerin,Comrie and Sim for a bag’o'pucks
and some friction tape. -
on #17 I agree they give up money for the NTCs or NMCs but the real reason players want that is because they dont want to be traded to a team that they dont want to go to. The variation of a limited NTC is there as well. If you were a plyer would you want to be subject to the whim of a GM and sending you to the worst team in this case the isles. I am sure family does play a part but if it is a short term contract a very samll part. These guys will waive when it is a team or situation they want. It is all about picking there own team when it comes down to it.
-
I’ll second bcarey on the photo (top) compliment…nice “physics of a wrist shot” picture.
-
Guerin will wait and see what Doug Weight will want to do. I think the two may re-sign again next year and play on the same line. If they can both play on the same team again, that maybe more of an incentive to come back.
On a side note CB: As you know I live in PA, and I’m making the 2 1/2 hour trip to the game against NJ tomorrow. I’m looking at tickets, but I keep forgetting how far back the rows go (is row “S” or “T” the furthest back). I want decent tickets, and don’t mind paying for them, but i was wondering if you, or anyone else could help me out. Thanks
-
I don’t agree on stockpiling draft picks unless the additional 2nd rounders are put together to move up. I also don’t agree on stockpiling prospects unless they are very close to being NHL ready and have a high upside, i.e. no need to pick up 3rd line prospects. The reason is simply the fact that the Isles have to have enough space to sign their own draft selections too. If you heedlessly keep stockpiling picks and prospects, you’ll reach a point where you can’t even sign many of your own picks, let alone develop them all properly. There are only so many spots and roles to fill even in the AHL. Therefore you have to be judicious in choosing your prospects to develop. In the next couple of summers alone a lot of draft choices will have to be signed or let go, and that’s excluding Snow’s eagerness to sign the Hillens and the Hennigars of the college world. Just a thought.
-
That photo is the best we’ve seen of Billy Guerin of late. He’s all but disappeared, but can you blame the guy? He wants for nothing and is on cruise control. I’ll even go so far as to say he’s playing at times so not to get hurt (have you seen him try and block a shot lately?).
He’s got his Cup Ring.
He’s got his name recognition.
He’s got his 400 goals (500 ain’t happening… nor is 450).
He’s being paid handsomely, lives in an area he likes, has his best friend on the team (albeit injured), and is comfortable with his family.1. he’s not going anywhere and won’t waive his NTC unless it’s a VERY local team like NJ or NYR (just my opinion)
2. he’s draining the Islanders dry and the best thing to do is cut him loose. 4.5M is helpful only to get the Isles to the cap floor (and don’t think that wasn’t considered when he landed that and Comrie landed 4M).
3. do us all a favor billy G… either retire or pear back your salary and accepted 3rd line RW duties in the hopes of remaining captain of this team
My prediction: as several have already said, he stays and both he and Dougie re-up for 1 more year. Why not? My laundry list of Bill Guerin’s statement mind above identically mirrors Doug Weight’s.
-
If Guerin gets traded who is the Islanders next captain?
-
Weight and “C” have given the Isles what they paid for. About a month ago I’d have liked to have seen them both back for a year. But now I’m not so sure. There is a core of six guys up front that are signed and can play last place hockey with or without them.
Comrie is a goner, and we can finish last with Tambellini and Sim filling minor roles (only because they’re paid for).
Let’s see what June and July bring, and just keep on giving the Bailey and Nielsen lines time to develop. -
CB,
If I were Snow I would trade Guerin to either Boston, NYR or NJ. I’m sure you could get what you offered from the Rangers Prucha and a #2 for him.
The next islanders capatin would be Taveras…just kidding probably Weight if they resign him…
-
Should he stay or should he go? Well, Snow gave him the no trade clause so its his right to exercise it. In the future I would hope the Snow doesn’t hand out these clauses like candy because they have the effect of killing teams (see Toronto Maple Leafs 2007-08). And if it’s the only way to get players to sign on the Island, then putting in language to the affect that the no trade is voided for say 45 days after the end of the Stanley Cup final if the team fails to make the playoffs will give the team a measure of control in being able to move a player, or at least getting a player to say during the season, I’ll waive my no trade to go to these 10 teams or so.
-
Might as well trade him if possble because the Islanders won’t re-sign him. Based on recent play they probably won’t get much in return so it’s likely he stays. My pick for captain next year is Mark Streit. He knows what’s going on and has made the best of the Islanders current situation.
-
Tim #12 – Look no further than what Mats Sundin did to the Leafs last season.
-
As much as I appreciate what he has done for the Isles over the last 2 years, Billy G looks done. The other night at MSG, he looked like he was mailing it in, especially on the PP. I don’t think any trade will happen, and the only way I would want him back is it if he came back as a 3rd liner getting 1.5 mil, giving the C to someone younger who can still learn from him (say, Hunter), and having a role as almost a player/coach. I like the guy, but over the last month I’ve been thinking that if he comes back his role needs to change a bit. Just this fan’s perspective.
-
I have no problems if he stays, I happen to like Guerin and wouldn’t mind at all if he was able to spend his last few years riding as an Islander.
CB brought out a lot of good points about him on both sides.
It’s unfortunate in the NHL the sun seems to set when you turn or push late 30′s, to bad(sometimes)they sometimes couldn’t pay more attention to what the guy does on the ice an for his team, then his age, we’ve seen some older/vet Hockey players skate circles with skill around younger dudes, and it’s true too some of the Vet players have injury list a mile long which doesn’t help their case either, and yes it’s all about rebuilding around youth. I’m goin to miss Witt, Weight, and if Guerin goes, him too.
Thanks CB, as always, good post! -
And every day I realize a little more how tough it is to be GM.
-
alan fom 1, how did garth screw it up last year? correct me if i am wrong but were we not contending until the injuries hit? dont let the final record take over what it was at the deadline. its his call so i cant really say anythig. we list the fact he won a cup but that may hurt us. had he not won it, would he have been more inclined to move? i just hope that as a veteran and a good guy he moves so he can help this frachise. if he doesnt then hey, thats his decision
-
I say keep Weight and Guerin and give them one-year extensions. Weight is unmoveable because of the injury and Guerin is not going to bring enough back for it to be worth it. It wouldn’t hurt to have two high-character veterans on this team next year that can still score and work well together.
I really think only Comrie and maybe Witt may get moved when its all said and done.
-
Chris TMC,
What is the difference btw a No Move Clause and a No Trade Clause? The player has a right to waive either. My thinking was one may have to do with the time of the year the potential trade may happen. I may be completely wrong. Any insight would be helpful.
-
1 – there was no market for NYI players last year. One player had a no-trade and did not waive. He is currently tearing up the league in PIT with better players on his line. Right…
The captaincy is overrated. Plain and simple.
-
Rich – I think “no move” means you can’t be put on waivers and sent to the AHL, in addition to not being traded. If I’m wrong there, someone please correct me.
-
Rich: A NMC means you not only cannot trade the player but you also cant put the player on waivers/send the player to the minors… a NMC is a bit more inclusive than a NTC. But players give up money and length in contracts to have these thigns included, and they dont have to have what people might call a “good” reason not to waive it… if they planned on going somewhere at all they would have negotiated for a limited NTC and not had to give up as much money or contract length.
-
#33 Why would Hunter be the captain? Why does this guy get so much credit Can someone please explain to me what the purpose of trent hunter is? He is slow as sh*t.
-
Most of you are out of line on Guerin. He didn’t ask for or expect the captaincy, it was handed to him and he’s gone and done everything that could have been expected of him. It’s not his fault that Weight was injured and he’s been forced to play with a center with whom he doesn’t mesh.
If he’s willing to go to a nearby team with a Cup chance, then work out the best deal possible. If not, then see if he’s willing to sign a 1 year extension along with Weight and keep him. If he won’t do either, then resign yourself to losing him with no hard feelings.
-
i forgot who but someone said that he would have been captain had they not gotten guerin. i like him and you have your mind set agianst him so i am not going to even bother on why i think he is great
-
Off topic-You can see Denver University with Rhett Rakhshani against Wisconsin tonight at 8PM on the NHL Network
-
and i am talking to beatlebailey 42* on hunter
-
beatlebailey #42 – After reading that ignorant statement of yours I can only conclude that your hockey knowledge is way more limited than Hunter’s skating. If you can see the intangibles, you’d have your answer. Watch him along the boards when guys can’t get the puck from him. Watch him for a whole game and maybe you’ll learn what a hockey player is and should be.
-
why not make your arguement? He is a good checker againt the wall. Had one good scoring season. What do you like about him. Does he fit gordon’s system? He moves like there is cement in his skates. He is like Witt. Tough gritty guy but does not fit this team IMO
-
#47 dude i am at every game and he is OVERRATED. because i dont share your opinion doesnt make it ignorant. this guy gets a free pass.
-
Nice Coach B…I’ll check that out.
I would part with Guerin at season’s end for nothing in the likely case they can’t move him by deadline. Nothing against him, but I just think it’s time to part ways, name a new captain, and continue onwards. I also don’t think he’d be worth it to the Isles bringing him back even at a modest pay cut to say, $3m.
Beatle – Hunter’s great when he parks in front of the net (Don’t need speed for that, ask Holmstrom and Smyth), but over the last two seasons, he’s gotten away from doing that consistently for some reason.
-
reported that guerin and isles met and he will waive if righ tteam coems calling
-
All I want 11 days from now is to see Comrie in another jersey!
-
Beatle – Hunter can lead by example a way of playing that the Isles need to better incorporate into their system: Physical play and winning tough battles to maintain puck control in the offensive zone. The Go-Go system is great to creat offensive opportunites, but you still need to play the body and grind the corners. He can help younger players develop. I’ll bring up a controversial player that he can help mold: Comeau. The game he played against the Rags the other night, with the exception of a couple of frustrating turnovers, to me was Hunter-inspired. He showed a willingness to play the body in more ways than just that monster hit and it was refreshing to see. I want more of that.
-
Felix – what is your source?
-
I dont understand why people like to play with players lives as if they are chess pieces. Yes I agree that if Guerin didnt have a NMC and a team came calling Id help him pack. But he has one and Im sure it has a lot to do with family. So until something changes I am not going to say he is a jerk for playing like a 39 yr old and not waving his NMC. I personally would not want to be told that I would have to spend weeks or months away from my family if I didnt have to.
-
#53 Point taken on the Comeau comparison to Hunter. What frustrates me about Hunter is his complete lack of speed. Some games he appears invisible.
-
I don’t really understand why anyone would want to give Weight a C? Why so he can retire the year after and we can get a new captain? How about someone who is going to be with us more than a year or 2? Someone who can grow and respect that crest.
-
Guerin’s value would be plenty higher if he could ever hit the net…
-
Luke Schenn looks like he would have been a great captaim in a couple years. Oh well nothing we can do about that now.
-
Why not give the C to Streit?
-
The reality is that BG is not getting $4mil per year in the offseason. Players at his age are not getting much in terms of salary (See Roenick, Chelios, Shannahan, Roberts, Recchi, etc.). Add in the economic situation this summer and BG’s best chance to get paid is looking like a Weight-style deal. Plus, the cap space on “contenders” will be a premium this summer.
Best places for a deadline deal: FL. Provides veteran presence, leadership, secondary scoring, PP time, etc. for a team that appears to be making the playoffs.
Best places for a new contract that might overpay for various reasons: FL, NYI
-
LOL- how about people who actually know these guys decide who would be the best captain? How about that?
-
Hunter has always been a slow skater. He is your next captain, though, so get used to it. He’s like another Isles captain, Patrick Flatley, who also couldn’t skate for [poop] but had the heart of a lion.
-
TMC – I wonder how well they really knew Guerin before making him captain considering they gave him the C at the very press conference which introduced him as a member of the team
Streit has captained the Swiss national team, and seems to me to be fairly well-regarded here and elsewhere. Plus he’ll be here for a while, and can clearly lead by example on the ice.
Hunter will also be here, plays a gritty game, and seems to be well respected in the organization.
Good call either way, imo. My limited-information vote would go to Streit.
-
While everyone craps on Hunter for being mentioned as captain material… does anyone recall Garth Snow’s comments that Hunter was a real/true Islanders (character… grit etc etc)… I think at the time he was referencing Hunter… Sillinger and whomever their linemate was during Ted Nolan’s first year with the club.
-
Hunter is what he is: a depth forward who plays the game hard and the right way. He’s the kind of guy that every team needs a couple of. He does whatever is asked and never complains. Just because he is slow doesn’t make him a crappy player. The problem with Hunter is that he set the bar so high for himself with his first season that everyone expects him to pot 20-25 goals/season and when he doesn’t, he’s called crappy.
People have to accept Hunter for what he is and not expect so much by way of offense out of him. He kills penalties and is a hell of a checking line winger. He also has a great attitude and work ethic, which I think would make him an acceptable captain. You don’t have to be a superstar to be a good captain. There are teams all over the league who’s superstars are not the team captains. Washington, Dallas, New Jersey, Buffalo all come to mind off the top of my head.
-
I would have to say in the event that Guerin leaves, Mark Streit takes over as captain. Streit seems the most likely to take over because he is one of the most experienced veterans who is openly enjoying his time with the team. He has said it many times that even though the team is in last place, he made the right decision in signing with the Islanders.
-
Kind of has a nice ring to it nyislanders93. Seems to be real happy. Likes the team and works hard every shift. Might be a good choice.
-
UIF: They knew him better than you or I do, I can tell you that. The people here actually arguing about who they supposedly know is or isnt captain material have never said more than hello to any of these guys- if that. And people who dont know anything about these players as people need to take a step back and quit imagining any of us know it all, because we dont. You disagree with that?
-
Take it easy Chris TMC we are just discussing. Jeez.
-
who cares about who the captain is at this point. Lets worry about ufa, draft etc. The captain could be a ufa. The captain of this team will be more important in 2yrs.
-
If this guy is leaving this summer, why wouldn’t he want to play hockey in late April? At his age, I would think he’d want to be a part of playoff hockey and winning a cup? Accepting a trade on March 4th, doesn’t mean he’ll have to relocate his family. It just means he’ll need to get an apartment for 2-3 months.
-
The team seems to revolve around Rick D. Why not be like Vancouver and make him the next Captain…if it is his team???
-
If BG goes at the deadline, then most likely NYI would finish the season without a Captain.
Decide the Captain in the offseason – after the draft and UFA season.
-
Well I agree with TMC, probably a good idea to let the dudes who know best which next should wear the big * C *
But my thoughts are you def need someone who’s a leader, someone who knows how to get the guys pumped, they have sid the kid wearing the C and I thought he’s to young for it, still think it, to me someone who wears the C, should be someone who’s earned it, a working horse for the team with leadership qualities. And 7th women? I agree with you too, I’ve come to learn GM is no walk in the park job. I found myself freaking out at Garth for certain things and I think back to Milbury and what he did to this team with his bad calls, and all the heat they take for it from fans and media, you certainly need a tough skin for that job.
-
Just another thought..
Could the Islander make Tavares the youngest captain in NHL history..if they are lucky enough to win the lottery.
-
Haha, jeeze Metal Chick, just trying to have some fun here! After last night’s game, discussing who could be our next captain is a nice change-of-subject.
-
CB – How about an “A”? Just kidding!
-
Do they pull a Luongo and name DP the unofficial capt? Oh god kill me now if that ever happens.
-
Streit for next year’s “C”…team’s best player, logs lots of minutes, good with media and fans, made long-term commitment to team, likes LI as a residence, unique international flavor…and the last time we had an all-star offensive defenseman as “C”, that wiorked out pretty good…BTW, have any Swiss fans formed a NYI fan clib, and have any made it to NVMC for some games?
-
My bad #74, I just stole your thunder…missed your comment and doubled up on the DP thing. Sorry pal!
-
cmon chris tmc, were just speculating and discussing who will lead this team next year, why ruin the fun?? and i agree with above, instead of talking about how succesful this team is, cant we chage the subject and talk about something that is never talked about, the future!
-
No worries. I thought it would be a little humorous.
-
Hunter is on pace for 20 goals and 45 points. That would be his best season since 03-04, and I certainly hope he achieves it. Great team player; an Islander through and through.
-
Snow – Please trade guerin somehow. Trade witt, comrie and guerin and make us proud.
-
Park wear the C until KO is ready in two years.
-
If you are talking about the next captain of this team, it is no doubt going to be Kyle Okposo. His demeanor both on and off the ice reminds me so much like Derek Jeter. It’s scary.
He has the goods to lead this team.
So Billy G, don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out. And Snow, don’t wait too long to pull this off, that is why the Isles are stuck with Weight now.
-
His demeanor both on and off the ice reminds me so much like Derek Jeter.
Alan, you mean KO can’t go to his left either? :::ducking:::
I’d like to see Streit with the C, and KO as an assistant. The team looks like it responds to him, and that’s a good example of leadership – it’s not the only possible style, but it’s an effective one.
-
CB: the idea that hunter isn’t even in the running for the C is ludicrous. he’s the longest tenured islander, he plays his ass off, and if he ever hit the net he’d probably score with consistency.
NB: after mentioning flats it made me realize how much trent reminds me of the chairman of the boards. bring back Heals and Flats!
-
CB: i could. but that would be logical. and i’ve been an islanders fan my whole life. logic is not a discipline that i adhere to.
out of curiosity, who do you see in the role in the event that guerin was traded? does it remain open for the remainder of the season? apparently many PBers think Streit would fill the void. what’s your call?
-
I would be much happier with Guerin if he showed some more life.
-
I have met BG and he is a great guy. He is one of those class acts that every team would love tho have. I really think the injuries, losses and just the change with Gordon has just taken the sails out of Guerin. I think he still has something left in the right situation.
CB, if the Isles part with Comrie, Witt and maybe even BG, will they be over the cap floor, or will they have to take salary back? Also, if the Isles choose not to re-sign Comrie, Geurin, Sillinger, and Weight, that would give them about $12million to spend. Any thoughts on who may fill those wholes? -
Comrie and Campoli to OTT for McAmmond and SJ’s No. 1
-
I was going to comment on Bill Guerin but somehow this turned into the who will our next captain be topic……..
-
I say Guerin will be traded to Boston and that he will accept……..SW
-
I seriously disagree that there is very little chance Guerin will get traded. Even with a no move clause, if you pretty much told a player he’s not wanted, do you think that player is going to feel comfortable enough to stay? Personally if I was in that situation I would want out. No-move clauses are basically just used so the player can pick where he’s going. 99% of the time if the player is asked to move, he will. The only other time I remember it happening in any sport was in baseball a couple years ago.. And everyone thought that was completely strange.

Snow has got to maximize his UFA to be. He screwed it up last season, and cant repeat that same mistake.
