I got to go with Option B, even if its only a second round pick and a prospect.

There is nothing wrong with building up second round picks. Look at the amount of teams that dealt second round picks to move up in the draft last year. With the soon to happen guerin deal for hopefully at least a second round pick deal happens at the end of tonight. The Islanders will have 4 second round picks plus two first round picks. Trade Witt for another second round pick and now that is 5 seconds and 2 firsts. Lets say the islander lose out on the lottery and pick number 2 or 3. How about offering 2 seconds and a first for the number 1 overall. does that make sense. or how about moving up in the first with the other first. say two seconds with the late first for another top ten first.

Moving Witt, Makes Sense. No other way around that.

Love Witt but if u can get a high(meaning first rounder)draft pick for him or a young d man(Cam Barker) and 2nd or 3rd then its a must do.

The emotional part of me says A. Take the pick and a b+ prospect straight up. Free up some extra cap money to throw at top free agent d-man (komisarek)and gilroy or chris neal. But that’s very risky in light of what smyth did. More money offered doesn’t mean you’ll land the big fish. My head says B. The old saying, a player you wanted (under contract) is worth more than a fantasy bidding war.(a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush)Since we are rebuilding, you have to get value in return. Soooooo…..I’d probably go with B assuming you find a good deal. Once burned twice foolish.

If we’re getting a mid-1st round pick and a solid prospect, I find it very hard to go against option B.

Although after your piece yesterday I was very tempted to pick C.

I’m really torn between B and C. If I had to pick one I’d probably lean towards C but depending on how high that pick was, I’d jump at another first rounder.

The reason I’d say keep him is because I feel that every team needs a defenceman like Witt to go anywhere in the playoffs. Someone who will lay everything on the line to stop a scoring chance. Right now I don’t feel like we have that in anyone else, and there aren’t a lot around the league to pick up via FA. So unless you can draft one that’ll be a top pair give it all guy within a few years, I’d keep Witt.

Love B-Witt and would hate to see him go but really he’s a piece to a different puzzle. I prefer option B. Either way, Witt or Wittout him landing Komisarek and Gilroy should be the goal. Adding Komisarek, Gilroy and Hedman over the summer would go a long way toward fixing anyone’s d.

I absolutely would go with option B. Brendan Witt is a great Islander, and would be my pick as the next captain, if and when Bill Guerin is traded. That being said, Witt is 34 years old and with the Isles current rebuilding process, they would not really be required to hold onto Witt. If the team can free up money to bring in a Mike Mike Komisarek, or another younger free agent, I say it’s a no brainer. Whatever scenerio occurs, Brendan Witt will also be remembered as a player who wore his heart on his sleeve, and was proud to wear the Islanders uniform. Thanks Brendan!

This is no time for sentimental feelings. I love Witt but I love the Isles future more…B for sure. If Snow can somehow snag a 1st..this draft would be huge.

Option B – we have the cap room and will need to fill it with Comrie gone and other vets on the move most likely as well. How about sending him to NJ for Clemmensen and a draft pick?

Witt and San Jose’s 1st for Pronger. If the Isles cant sign him past next season I’m sure he’d get a 1st back next year at this time.

I say Option C, but let me explain. We have a lot of draft picks, which is good, but I think we have enough. I would like to see an asset like Witt return a player who has proven to be NHL capable (ie Higgins,Randy Jones or whoever), but I can’t see a team in the thick of a close playoff race giving up a decent player. I don’t think you lose much, if anything, by waiting till after the season to do a deal. I love Witt too, but tick, tick, tick.
