Talk about the game here

  1. avatar Pritchett54 says:

Hope the isles lose 9-8 and okposo and bailey have hat tricks.

  2. avatar Yashin for President says:

    I hope so too

  3. Bill Jaffe just went over the Islanders successful powerplay in Chicago during the pre-game. Looks like we know who should step in when the powerplay starts to lack. Nice job Jaffe. Now the Islanders are featuring a story on Ray Whitney’s car collection. I thought this is the Islanders channel?

  4. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

The Isles needs some wiggle room in the TavHeDuchSvennKane sweepstakes … personally I feel the Isles can beat any team on any given night at this time. They are getting contributions from every position and above avg. goaltending.

The other bottom 5 teams have played poorly thus far this week and haven’t really helped lower the Isles’ magic # much. With 18 points on the line for the other 4 teams this week … thus far only 7 points were taken … I think it’s going to come down to Tampa / Atlanta game on the last day of the season.

  5. avatar Rob says:

wow if that didnt look like the Peter Mannino or last place team we thought we were going to see in Chicago – nothing does

  6. avatar hubie39 says:

Now we know why Mannino is getting another shot. Isles want the “real” Mannino to show up. So far, so good, lol.

  7. avatar sad says:

can anyone tell me where I can listen to this game? It’s not showing up on the Islanders website, not working on NHL Center Ice. After nearly a week of no hockey, I’m frustrated!

  8. avatar Jorgen jonsson says:

    Go canes 1-0.

  9. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

1-0 is easy for the Isles to overcome … we’ve seen it a few times the last 10 games.

There are a lot of top teams playing against the Isles and other bottom 5 teams the rest of the way … ought to be a wild finish to the bottom … LOL!

  10. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

I wonder if it isn’t too late for the Isles to recruit “Eggs Levine” to play goal for the Isles … they’ll finish last in a big way ;)

  11. avatar Islanders1984 says:

sad try isles radio websites, 1100 or 94.3 i think

  12. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

This is some good back n forth action … Isles didn’t wilt after that first goal against.

  13. avatar michael says:

    anybody know what channel hd

  14. avatar Sally Williams says:

Good article in Newsday about Gervais. Also liked the Gervais interview on the Isles website. I am happy to see the improvements this season. He is a character guy who I would like to see stick around!

  15. avatar Pritchett54 says:

I dont believe it is in HD tonight, I am dvr’ing on 14. If there is an HD channel on cablevision, someone let me know.

  16. avatar Islanders1984 says:

yeah and IO just had that stupid commerical that said i would get every isles game in HD

  17. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

No MSG+ 2 in HD tonight by any provider as far as I can tell.

  18. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

KO + Tambo = Almost a great goal. Carolina is discovering what everyone else has the last month … no longer an easy two points … I believe the last meeting between Carolina and the Isles was the last game the Isles were beaten real bad.

  19. avatar Pritchett54 says:

i would say that about 25% of games this year have been on channel 14. Pretty much any time that the devils play on the same night as us, we are moved to 14. Watching the game without HD is like looking at the game through a small dirty window.

  20. Play Mannino for the rest of the season

    Resign Denis

    Draft Tavares

    Sign Chris Higgens

    Bring In Gilroy

    Begin Next Season

  21. avatar Chickendirt says:

I was just talking to an associate of mine that was an Islanders fan since their innaugural year. He was telling that this team reminds him a lot of those Islanders teams in their early years. Right about the time they were post season ready.

It ain’t so much the wins but the way they play. They give good team fits and do a good job overwhelming their D.

Interesting to hear that as I am not so optimistic. I give it three years before post season contention.

  22. avatar mtrico says:

I am not actively rooting for a loss, but we really do need to lose this one. Down 2-0, it will be interesting to see how we start the 2nd.

  23. avatar IslesPassion 21 says:

    Whitneys Camaro rumbles…Sounds nice…

  24. avatar Chickendirt says:

    BEAUTIFUL Goal by Nielsen!!!!!!!

  25. avatar mtrico says:

I have my doubts about this team being able to play like they are and still end up in last overall in the league. Her’s hoping the guys in front of us win some games.

  26. avatar Scott says:

hey guys, cant watch the game- how did nielson score the goal?

  27. avatar Pritchett54 says:

    JACKMAN!

  28. avatar jon from nj says:

Honestly…can we STOP scoring? I mean, it’s all nice and fun, but I mean, can we please not screw ourselves out of the #1 or #2.

  29. avatar Brian1976 says:

I just want to express my ma love for Richard Park. He is the type of player every team needs.

  30. avatar Pritchett54 says:

Park and Nielsen back to back

    2-2

  31. avatar hubie39 says:

This is the 2nd time they have cut to commercial DURING PLAY. The isles are treated like such trash.

  32. avatar Brian1976 says:

Why did MSG2 just go to commercial in the middle of the game?

  33. avatar Jimmy Sparx says:

    CABLEVISION SUCKS!!!!!!!!

    WHAT IS WRONG WITH THEM??????????????

  34. avatar TuxTax says:

Effin Cablevision! Who fell asleep on the commercial button? No HD and now this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  35. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

It would be nice if this game was on HD on Cablevision AND also be nice if there weren’t damn commercials in the middle of play. WTF? Sorry CB, it gets me mad enough I got a great tv not too long ago but have to watch them on this crap station. Why can’t there be an overflow HD channel or something?!

  36. avatar Pritchett54 says:

This team is killing me and making me smile at the same time. What can we do to stop scoring and winning?

  37. avatar Bri on Li says:

What the sam Hill is going on with Cablevision?!? Every time I see that “all the NY teams in HD” commercial I want to puke.

  38. avatar Rob says:

Yes i just noticed that Hubie – It happened at the same exact point in the first period – weird – then as soon as they come back its time for a real commercial break – and by the way – I’m starting to believe we are never gunna lose again

  39. avatar Pritchett54 says:

    mtrico 22

    There is your answer.

  40. avatar Lorne says:

Amazing how this team refuses to quit, remember the coaches and players are not down with losing right now like we are.

  41. avatar Shoogah says:

What’s with the commercials during game play? Grr.

  42. avatar Sec301 says:

honk honk hoooooonk lets go canes

  43. avatar 7th Woman says:

Please, everyone who has cablevision, call and complain. They think they can get away with the way they treat their Isles fans subscribers because we have no choice. But we do.

  44. avatar mtrico says:

#39, pretty darn strong. Man, this team is really showing me something. Although it might be nice if they could show us all a little less over the last few. :)

  45. avatar Justin says:

Tambellini’s breakaway move was a carbon copy of the one he scored with against New Jersey(?). Almost got away with it too.

  46. avatar Rob says:

What is going on with this team!!!!!!!!!!!

  47. avatar jon from nj says:

    This is painful

  48. avatar Jimmy Sparx says:

Now this is just not right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    BRUNO!!!!!!!!!!!

    Please will these kids stop!!!!!!!!!!!

    NOT FAIR!!!!!!!!

  49. avatar Rob says:

not to mention that we are doing the Rags a huuuuuuge favor by beating the Canes

  50. avatar jon from nj says:

I am to the point where I literally think there is no luck (aka god) when it comes to this franchise. Yeah, that’s right…I’ve determined we’re not getting the franchise player we need in this draft.

  51. avatar Shoogah says:

    Are there refs tonight?

  52. avatar Jimmy Sparx says:

    Hey the refs showed up………..lol.

Come one CANES!!!!! Get a shorty!!!!!

  53. avatar Scott D. says:

Painful is a good way to describe the way the end of the season could potentially unfold here. It’s one thing to sneak ahead of Tampa, but the way this team is knocking off desperate teams, on the road, they could well catch ATL, COL and PHX.

  54. avatar Jimmy Sparx says:

    Meant to say come on!!!!!

  55. avatar patrick says:

don’t worry about the #1 pick or a renovated coli because your getting neither. We must have sold our soul to the devil to Win 4 cups in a row.

  56. avatar jon from nj says:

    I’m getting sick.

  57. avatar patrick says:

CB will you move to KC?

  58. avatar Rob says:

I give up – i root for 15 years for wins and get all losses and now i want losses and …well you all are watching

  59. avatar Justin says:

Gervais with a beautiful backhand, Hilbert with an equally nice pass. I like what I see, even if you so-called ‘fans’ don’t. Imagine if this team wasn’t clicking down the stretch. STREIT with another!

  60. avatar Islanders1984 says:

its so true, if we wanted isles to win they would be losing, now when we need them to los etehy can’t

  61. avatar jon from nj says:

So-called…I want this team to build for the future with a franchise-type player, not win some games now.

  62. avatar Scott D. says:

Serious question to which we all know the answer: Which franchise would you rather be at the start of next season? Tampa, with Stamkos and Tavares/Hedman, or the Isles, with Bailey, Kane and a bunch of late season wins that meant nothing?

  63. avatar mtrico says:

I thought that last goal by Carolina was a screw job. Where’s the penalty?

  64. avatar Lorne says:

Say we end up getting the 2nd pick and Tampa gets the first, you have to think they may take Hedman. They need a top d-man. They already have Stamkos, St Louis and Lecavalier. Maybe Tavares falls to us a 2.

  65. avatar Justin says:

I understand your point Scott but you can’t mention the Isles at this point and not say Okposo and Streit. Tampa has nobody on defense and their goaltending is pretty bad. And Rick Tocchet? Is he their coach for good?

  66. avatar Islanders1984 says:

Lorne I definately Think Tampa will take hedman

  67. avatar mtrico says:

#64, while it’s possible, I just don’t see us falling so far down in the draft that we end up with Kane. We could easily lose the top spot, which would definitely suck. I believe when you factor in the probability of spots 6-14 winning the lottery (which would result in the last place team keeping the first pick), the chances of the last place team getting the #1 is about 48%. I believe the chance of the 2nd to last place team getting the 1st pick is about 12%. And, of course, there is always the chance you could get bumped to 3rd. I believe these numbers are correct, but if someone else has better numbers, please let me know.

  68. avatar Staten Islander says:

    Lorne-

I think Tampa still takes Tavaras, they’re not good enough to pass on his tallent

  69. avatar Justin says:

62, all I’m saying is how about if we were playing the same way in the beginning-middle of the season? If you’re so worried about our future, I’d think that you’d want to see our team clicking NOW. If we start next season like we did this season, you think we’re going to be any better off even with a Tav/Hed?

  70. avatar Kevin Fitz says:

There is no real feasible way for us to finish any better than 29th. so the worst pick we will have is the 3rd pick. So we will be getting a franchise player no matter what.

  71. avatar patrick says:

go go gordon is gonna be bumming next yr when we miss out on the top 2 picks

  72. avatar John R. says:

Hey John from NJ, if the team was sucking right now and the kids weren’t showing any growth would that be better for the future of this franchise? One player coming into a sucky team isn’t going to bail out an entire franchise. A second third or fourth pick, added to a core of kids who showed something this year can be just as rewarding to a franchise. People need to stop thinking that the team won’t improve without the first pick in the draft. Please stop all of the whining because frankly it’s very annoying.

  73. avatar islandersny says:

what a waste of a year if we lose the 1 pick, to suffer a whole entire year and blow it on a bunch of meaningless games that we win now.

  74. avatar Islanders1984 says:

Hey lets not rule out winning the lottery ourselves

  75. avatar John R. says:

“Serious question to which we all know the answer: Which franchise would you rather be at the start of next season? Tampa, with Stamkos and Tavares/Hedman, or the Isles, with Bailey, Kane and a bunch of late season wins that meant nothing”? Ummm, I think you forgot a few players. But way to feed an agenda by only naming Bailey, the one kid who ISN’T PRODUCING REGULARLY and leaving out all of the bright spots on this team.

  76. avatar 7th Woman says:

Who gave Bruno a Starbucks double shot on the bench?

  77. avatar jon from nj says:

    John R,

More than anything else, this franchise needs a “face”. No matter how well Okposo is playing, I still don’t think he’s a future 40-goal guy who will be putting butts in the seats more often than not. I think you get that with a Tavares. For the future of the franchise in LONG ISLAND, it’s what they need.

  78. avatar Daryl C says:

Looks like the time off did Bailey good…he seems to have a little more jump tonight.

I think TBay would trade Lecavilier in the offseason and take Tavares first if they won the lottery.

  79. avatar jon from nj says:

Just as a follow-up…I get that there are no “sure-things” (aka Daigle). However, if we are to believe what has been hyped for the past 3 years, and what scouts are saying is a player who will almost certainly produce at an elite level, how can you NOT hope for that to be the face of the franchise, and hope that is just another catalyst for the Isles to STAY on LI.

  80. avatar beaker says:

why would u trade a proven superstar for the chance to draft a rookie, albeit with great upside? they could keep levailier and draft tavares, just move stamkos or tavares to wing

  81. avatar Kevin Fitz says:

Why is the feeling in the comments on this website that the Isles are OWED the first overall pick. If they don’t finish worst overall than they don’t deserve it. I don’t understand exactly why people feel it is our pick and if we don’t get it something went terribly wrong.

  82. avatar Justin says:

    77. Tampa has a face, Lecavalier. Atlanta has a face, Kovalchuk. And they’re just tearing it up!

  83. avatar Daryl C says:

Seems to be out there that Tampa is bleeding money and Lecavilier has a huge contract.

  84. avatar jon from nj says:

I do recall TB just winning a cup the other year.

  85. avatar John R. says:

Fair enough Jersey John. It would be great for the franchise (if we still have a franchise) to have a superstar and no one can argue that point. I just don’t want everyone to get so bummed out and start thinking they can’t turn around without him. Don’t get me wrong I would love to see JT in an Isles sweater but I’m not going to lose any sleep if we don’t get him. Really, right now I’m just worried about keeping the team in NY state because if you want to talk about depressing, lets talk about watching the buses and trucks roll out of here on their way to K.C.

  86. avatar Justin says:

    84. Yes, that was five years ago.

  87. avatar jon from nj says:

#81…I can’t speak for all of those (me included) hoping for a #1. I don’t feel we are “owed” it. I do feel that the team is playing above their heads right now, with nothing to lose, and a loooong-ways to go. Of course we see the benefit of the team getting some wins here, but when playing teams who have everything to lose, and who are tight, I don’t take HUGE value out of these wins. Let’s not forget that this is a rebuild. Not a one-year turnaround.

  88. avatar John R. says:

Justin that’s actually a great point. Superstars make games more exciting but they don’t always mean deep playoff runs or cups. It’s all about team chemistry and toughness. With that being said it sure would be a lot of fun to watch J.T., but like I said, I’ll sleep well either way.

  89. avatar Richie66 says:

Tavares: If you draft him, they will come

  90. avatar jon from nj says:

    John R,
I agree, even if it seems I don’t. While a #1 pick won’t help keep the team here, a younger group of upstarts might be more attractive to free-agents…or not. Who knows.

  91. avatar beaker says:

    # 90, i know one player cant make a difference, but look at crosby, ovechkin, kane did. not comparing tavares to any of them, but if he’s exciting enough he may be able to do enough to keep them

  92. avatar Rob says:

    WOOOOOOO

  93. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

Tie game boys and girls. We all asked for it….

  94. avatar jon from nj says:

Hahaa…we did ask for it. The Isles have shown an ability to come back nonetheless lately.

  95. avatar Jorgen jonsson says:

Its all tied at 4. Go canes in regulation please

  96. avatar mtrico says:

As much as it would help the cause, it would be hard to feel good about a regulation loss in this one.

  97. avatar jon from nj says:

Wow…all kidding aside, great play by Whitney.

  98. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

    Hockey Gods.. THANK YOU!!

  99. avatar Jorgen jonsson says:

    5-4 canes !!!

  100. avatar Staten Islander says:

    ask and ye shall receive

  101. avatar jon from nj says:

BTW, when is Thomas Pock gone? When Sutton comes back?

  102. avatar Chickendirt says:

    There you have it!!!

1st overall pick here we come.

This team plays like this and develops Tavares a lot of people are gonna hate us.

  103. avatar Rob says:

Point Blankers take a sigh of relief…mostly

  104. avatar Shoogah says:

Wooooooo! I love my team but this is fantastic! I’ve never screamed so loud after an oposing goal.

  105. avatar Islanders1984 says:

Better news, Tampa Plays Atlanta Tommorow

  106. avatar Justin says:

I bet the boys on the bench are pumped now! Ugh. I can’t keep talking about this nonsense. It’s just silly and angers me every game to see these comments. I think what bothers me most is the fact that everyone is not just keeping in mind the draft, but OBSESSED with it. It’s the OBSESSION with losing that kills me.

  107. avatar Austin H says:

This is terrible…so much rooting against the Islanders. Such a collapse is not good for this team.

  108. avatar db says:

96 mtrico your right i dont feel good i feel great about this possible loss

  109. avatar jon from nj says:

It’s not as much a collapse as it is Carolina realizing they need to make the playoffs and they actually started playing.

  110. avatar mtrico says:

Normally, that would be a tough one to swallow, but if it gets us where we need to be, then it works.

  111. avatar Chickendirt says:

THis isn’t a bad collapse at all.

These kids have to learn how to buckle down in the third. Better they learn this now in a meaningless season.

They gave Carolina probably one of the hardest fights they’ve had this year. This was a great game by a last place team givng a bubble team something to think about it.

This was a tough win by Carolina. They are contending for the post season and coughed a two goal lead to a last overall team.

  112. avatar jon from nj says:

Good for Dean McAmmond. Does he come back next year?

  113. avatar Rob says:

I think i want McAmmond back next year – he grew up an Islander fan – he wants to be part of the solution and has played well here – good vet. I’d take him back for 1 more year

  114. avatar Moose says:

Dean McAmmond just tore the referee apart. GOOD FOR HIM! You tell em, Dean!

  115. avatar Obs says:

These kids are playing hard. Glad to no pick up any points and happy with the play of these young men.

  116. avatar dalcy says:

i want Dean McAmmond on this team next year.

  117. avatar Richie66 says:

The Hockey Gods have given us a gift tonight

  118. Thank you Peter Mannino.

    You’ve done your job.

Garth I’m sure just pumped his fist in the air.

  119. avatar islesfan999 says:

GREAT GAME.. I LOVED THIS GAME… I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THIS LOSS. CLOSE GAME GREAT GAME BIG LOSS FOR US..

  120. avatar John R. says:

Guys, I wasn’t able to watch the game so could someone tell me what was going on with Deano? Why was he yelling at the ref? I love it but would like to know some details, please? It would be much appreciated.

  121. avatar jonw says:

refs missed a hook on him late in the game

  122. avatar Islanders1984 says:

John R, he got hooked on a scoring chance and it was a no goal, Comeau got called for a hook like 30 seconds before that, so deano was pissed about the no call

  123. avatar Islanders1984 says:

sorry ment no call, not no goal

  124. avatar jonw says:

was pretty suprised to see go-go walk off the ice after seeing and knowing how vocal he was. Goes to show that next years captain is not on the team yet or not in the lineup.I know its not a big deal but…

  125. avatar Matt says:

they played a good game. the refs were very inconsistant tonight but it happens. now that timmy was locked up I hope GS follows with

nate thompson: 3 years/1 million per
    andy hilbert: 3 years/ 1.2 million per

both of them are key guys who will help with the rebuild.

  126. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

125 … Love the play of Thompson and Hilbert …. but neither one of em are worth more than 800k MAX a season .. the league is full of Thompson’s and Hilberts ..

WTH was with the game today? Fuzzy picture, commercials in middle of game … I actually thought my cable went out for a bit when I lost my internet connection … Oh well … chalk another one up to cablevision.

BTW .. Including after when Atlanta loses to Detroit … the magic numbers are:

Any combo of Isles loss of points and 4 other teams’ gain of points are:

    Tampa = 18 points
    Atlanta & Colorado = 15 points
    Phoenix = 14 points.

Atlanta, Phoenix and Isles have 11 games remaing. Colorado as 10 games.

  127. avatar Justin says:

Will the NHL lottery be on TV anywhere?

  128. avatar Coach B says:

I’m sure a lot of us will be glued to the TV Saturday night in the monumental matchup of Atlanta at Tampa Bay.

  129. avatar Coach B says:

Lottery was on NHL Network last year.

  130. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

Correction … Atanta has 10 games also.

So has it struck midnight already for Mannino? … or did the Isles just run out of gas on him after having their way with Carolina in the 2nd period?

  131. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

I suspect the Lottery will be covered on NHL network and it will be during the week of April 13th.

Still a long way to thinking of the lottery … Isles could of just as easily won tonight.

  132. avatar cgs878 says:

The ice sucked tonight in Carolina. The refs sucked tonight in Carolina. The Isle’s D in the 3rd period sucked in Carolina tonight. I’d be disappointed with the loss if the Isles actually had a chance to make the playoffs, but considering that they’re WAY out, eh… who cares? Tomorrow in Ottawa should be fun… hope it’s another interesting game.

  133. avatar jon from nj says:

Well, Mannino was what cost them this game. Even after last weekend’s game against Chicago, I think Gordon knows the deal here…if he wanted to “win”, or at least at have a better chance, Danis would have been the choice. ALthough, with back-to-backs, we were bound to see Mannino one of these games.

  134. avatar jon from nj says:

PS…I wouldn’t mind seeing Rechlicz lay a huge one on Comrie OR Campoli tomorrow night.

  135. avatar Chris TMC says:

The comments on here are unreal. Nobody even seems happy when this team does well, no cheers for JAckmans great passes, Kyles Bruno Fransie are all kids who scored, and its like some of you want the kids who will be on this team to totally suck. If this team totally sucked with who is here now whoever they drafted next year wouldnt mean squat! I wish people would see that.

Feel however you want, but I myself am honestly ashamed reading it. I really believe that “anti-rooting” like we are seeing here is bad, BAD luck. Its worse than blabbing about how you have a shutout with a minute to go and youre down by two!

  136. avatar IslesPassion 21 says:

The refs provided us with a fun and exciyting game but then made sure the Isles lost in the end…Good job zebras!

  137. avatar Madchef says:

It does stink for people to want this team to lose but so be it. It’s only because our eye is one the prize at this point. Why play so bad for 80% of the season to ruin it now. Granted I won’t outwardly root against the Isles but if they so happen to lose…..

  138. avatar jon from nj says:

    Chris TMC,
It couldnt be worse than the luck this team has had the past…oh, decade. I understand your point and as a die-hard myself (and I presume, most of us are), I think it’s a matter of absolutely loving seeing the kids progress, but I also see the bigger picture. They need more skilled players on this team to build, build build.

  139. avatar Vlad from Brooklyn says:

@ Joe in Massapequa: The Hockey Gods did not have anything to do with this loss. The refs did. For everyone who saw the game I don’t have to repeat many no calls or penalties which not supposed to be made.
Otherwise – great game. I enjoyed the effort. And all the right people on the Team got their points. Bruno must read the morning Newsday paper. Tambs had a solid game. Respect to Dean – he cares! Martinek – Hmmm.

  140. avatar Sec 215 says:

Easy “Chris TMC,” we are all happy that “the kids are all right.” I am damn proud of this team, but it’s been a long season and we’re all just looking toward the future.
I’m not sure if i’ve seen the stat, but does anyone know how many one goal loses this team has this season? We may be approaching a record. Kinda makes you salivate for one or two more point-per-game guys next season.
I’m not one to be overly optimistic by any means (isles fan/metsochist), but if things go the right way in the next couple of weeks, we may be in the playoff next year…in other words, we LOVE these kids!

(#135 Chris TMC) – seems like many people here are emulating the hedge fund managers of the world. Personally, I love entertaining games like tonight. I root for an Islanders win, but like I said in #132, I’m not disappointed with the loss. Jackman was great tonight, and Bailey almost had another goal. McAmmond showed some fire during his post-game argument with the officials. Okposo got another point to extend his streak. There was so much to like about the game.

  143. avatar Bri on Li says:

Hey TMC I think we’re all happy with the results tonight. I said to my wife at 4-2, all I want from this game is a lot of goals for the Isles and a heroic, well fought loss. In regulation, if possible. I guess i got my wish.

I saw very little I didn’t like tonight. Sure Mannino’s not ready for prime time yet, but I can live with that. Pock is a waste of space in my humble opinion, but Sutton will be back soon. I’d rather a really rusty Sutton than Pock.

  144. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

Hey Vlad, maybe the Hockey Gods were in the refs heads letting more go than should have. I agree that it was a horrible officiated game, especially at the end. It as a very entertaining game and I am trying to recall the last game where the team looked like they weren’t playing for Gordo. I liked the little tidbit from Billy and Howie about the beard bet. I bet Baily wanted in on that one but probably wont be growing a beard for another 5 years. Haha. Till tomorrow and the mini-reunion. Have a good night all.

  145. avatar dally mac says:

I thought it was plain and simple. Carolina missed out on the play-offs on the last day of the season last year and simply turned it up a notch in the third. I thought Mannino was more than adequate, but man they have several stars on that team and they just smothered us with pressure. I’m pleased with the results and guys who think they didn’t get more out of this game by losing than winning have never heard of the learn from you mistakes adage. Be nice to sit back and watch them win a string of games without having to root against them, but they just won’t go down without a fight, a good trait that will help them as much next year as the #1 or #2 overall pick will. The 31st pick to me might be just as important to our future as our first pick. And lets not forget the possible 24-30 overall pick too.

I am rooting for games like this for the rest of the season (throw in a few wins). I enjoy watching what these kids are doing. I love watching them grow, knowing they will only be better next season. I loved seeing Tambs give it rather than take it. He may have finally caught on which is good, because this kid has a nasty wrist shot.

I am happy because we are all seeing the future today. Hopefully the strength & conditioning will be much better which should cut down on some injuries. Hopefully that goalie who has 50 years left on his contract is ready to go.

    Let’s go Islanders!!!!!!!!!!!

  147. avatar WarrenG says:

Great game, huge blowing of penaltied by refs, but in the end, we faught hard, the kids played great, and we left Carolina thinkin again, damm we had the fight of the end of the season against the worst team in Hockey. I do hope we win tom against Sens, cause i just HATE THEM. Lets go Islanders!!

  148. avatar db says:

great trade by garth snow getting mcammond because i guarantee if he doesnt take that unsportsman penalty they would have scored and tied the game and who knows what happens after that. that being said i want mcammond resigned next year and that loss tonight very possibly will get us tavares/hedman. as long as tb gets 2 points tomorow and we lose i think its a lock. i will sleep alot better tonight knowing a future super star is in the future.

Chris The Metal Chick needs to be ignored as she is an obsessed Islander fan who CANNOT take ANY criticism of the team. She gets banned everywhere she posts.

the islanders management is a mess and for any successful team it starts at the top sorry folks

  151. avatar doc says:

What makes you think the Islanders management is a “mess”.

They seem to have stabilized things the last 2 years. They are sticking to a plan. It’s year 2 now.

And I can’t believe “FANS” are actually happy with a loss… sad.

  152. avatar UNH Steve says:

wins and losses don’t mean anything right now let’s be realistic. when you see people happy we lost it’s not because they want the team to do bad. it’s because they want the number one pick next year so the team can continue to get better. i think we can all agree that more important than the outcome of the game is how the team is actually playing, the kids especially. i didn’t get to watch the game tonight but saw the highlights and the goals we scored were all good goals. mannino let in a few softies, otherwise we could’ve won this game. but who cares about the outcome? a win tonight gets us nowhere, a well played game is much more important. just my take…

  153. avatar David Marker says:

I think if we can get lucky and get Tavares and all the picks we have acquired this team will be on the road to the CUP. They are playing extremely hard with very little talent and Okposo is starting to play really well. With 5 picks in the first two rounds plus our other prospects I think we have something.
I just hope they don’t play themselves out of getting Tavares. I live in London, ON and have watched him play and he has amazing finishing ability and that is something we haven’t had since Bossy and Lafontaine. He will look awesome in an Islanders Jersey.

  154. avatar isles72 says:

we didnt gain any ground on t.b or atl/phx so it was a relief to lose even though the we technically should have won or gone to ot/shootout

winning v.s losing is tearing me apart inside because I’m loving what I see out of this crew down the stretch here- but at the same time cant help but wonder how much of a boost Tavares or Hedman would give to the franchise.

  155. avatar IslesPassion 21 says:

Its good to hear Gordan stick up for his players during press conference….

  156. avatar Jim Clark says:

This game reminded me of Kate Murray. Ugh. I can see the point of taking some solace in losing. But losing 4-5 after having a 4-2 lead late in the second period? How many 3rd period collapses has this team had this year??? A lot of them are due to the loss of Rick DiPietro with multiple injuries who only has 13 YEARS left on his contract our brilliant GM gave him. As Tom Lehrer would say, you feel like a Christian Scientist with acute appendicitis rooting for this team.

  157. avatar Pat says:

I want the team to compete. I want them to get lots of ice time for the kids at the NHL level.

I was happy with the result. We can’t depend on Tampa nor the others to win games. last night was a crucial loss for our goal to win the “Tavares Derby”. We will deal with the lottery when it comes.

As a season ticket holder who actually spends money on the team, it does not make me a better fan than those who don’t go to games……..but ……to protect my investment in the team – getting a John Tavares means a lot more to me – than winning a meaningless (for us) game in Carolina or Chicago which I have already forgotten about. Having Tavares on the team means to me – that if I can’t make a game next year – I have an actual chance where I can re-sell that ticket and not lose money. I am actually re-energized as an Isles fan by the play of the kids and the potential to get a guy like Tavares or Hedman next year.

Its a perfectly fine strategy to root for this team to lose JUST ENOUGH games in order to maintain and solidify our hold on last place. Once we “clinch” that – win out.

Our bigger problems are off the ice (Lighthouse) than on the ice.

  158. avatar eye on the island says:

    missed the game last night-

was the canes’ goals results of poor d positioning, poor goaltending, good work by the canes?

if anyone can give a quick overall analysis that would be great.

    thanks

  159. avatar joey303 says:

Gotta root for Tampa to win tonite. Hopefully in OT. Looking at their schedule and the way that they are playing, they just might lose 6 in a row going into the Isles game Apr. 4. No confidence in them winning more than 3 games down the stretch.

  160. avatar Outside says:

the lottery will most likely be on nhl network and VS the day after hte season ends…

  161. avatar Bri on Li says:

Pritchett54, I just read comment #1… Not too far off the mark!

  162. avatar Chris TMC says:

sec, cgs, bri, etc: Theres a big difference between (1) being OK after losing a hard-fought game and (2) complaining about any bit of success our players see because you want them to be losers. Theres a huge difference as far as Im concerned… the former is fine, its a balanced look at the big picture- but the latter is a bad omen and its tempting fate. I cant help it, its just the way I feel about it. To me its like bragging about a shutout before the games even over- like you are pretty much begging things to change. I think we are better off just taking the high road and letting the cards fall where they may- its just better for all of us, better for everyone.

  163. avatar jonw says:

LOL,”good losses” are a made up term by whoelse? Wait for it…Losers!
Yep thats right anyone who has ever played sport knows that. You can explain it anyway you see fit but a loss is a loss and no professional athlete who has any self respect is ever okay with it.You think the Capitals were okay with losing the 4 ot playoff game to the Isles in 87?How about last years Penguins? You think any team is okay with losing in the Stanley cup finals cause getting there is an accomplishment? Stop. There is some individual good that can come out of a loss yes,or you can appreciate a teams effort, but accepting a loss or calling it a “good loss” is insane.

  164. avatar Pat says:

Jon 163 – depends on whose perspective you are looking at it from. Those of us who write here are not looking at it from a player’s perspective – but from our own – and I think its GREAT that we lost last night – as it functionally improves our chance to land a franchise player who could be here a long time – as opposed to a win that will be forgotten by now.

Yesterday was not a good loss – but a GREAT loss for us. Its not a good loss for Scott Gordon or Peter Mannino or the WRECKER – but for me -its a great loss. IF we were to get Tavares – the resale value of my tickets go way up. The talent level of the team goes up. THAT is a BIG WIN !

  165. avatar Jimmy says:

my friends brother brought up a very good point
due to the strong goaltending we’ve been seeing as of late
the isles should trade dipietro to tampa for there 1st round pick
i think they would go for it
    imagine hedman and tavares
    we would be unstopable

  166. avatar jay dugan says:

    (165) Jimmy:
How old is your friends brother? 7 or 8?
C’mon man. Why would Tampa make that trade?
trade for a golie with a ridiculous contract (now that we know he is injury prone) and who has played about 5 games over the last year and a few months? and for a top 2 pick in a supposed top heavy draft with 2 top notch prospects!!!
    PAH-LEEEEASE
