Lighthouse schedules outreach for March 26
Breaking news: the Lighthouse Development Corp. has scheduled a “Community Education Outreach” for Thursday, March 26 at 7:00 pm at the Long Island Marriott, across from the Coliseum. We’ll have more as the event nears, and I’m sure LDC President Michael Picker will discuss it at Point Blank Night.
Talk about tonight’s Islanders-Leafs game in Comments. Up next from me is a long-awaited Scott Gordon story.

Lighthouse schedules outreach for March 26
-
Make sure Newsday attends.
-
The LH Project seems to be gaining positive momentum towards a final thumbs up approval hopefully by summer!
-
Is This Another Step Forward, Or Is It Just Like A Meeting Done By The People From The Lighthouse?
-
Get her done.
-
Dino – yes.
-
They should have scheduled it for March 16. They could then note that precise date marks three years exactly since Nassau chose the Wang/Rexcorp group to develop the site.
-
JayK, I see what you are saying, but I don’t understand how that would really “swing” anything in their favor. We also need to do this as soon as possible, as long as it is in an efficient manner. I’m coming home from school Thursday afternoon, so I should be in attendance and more than likely will bring many people once I hear more details…
-
Well, as I re-read it… I obviously did not realize that it was scheduled for March 26th. So JayK, scratch what I said… I agree with you. The outreach should start tomorrow!
Big gulps… huh? Alright, well… see ya later!
-
Okposo’s line is flying. This kid is going to be a beast. Every time his line is out there, they are on the offense.
-
I love the way they play tinight, but can we freaking loose for a change?

Go Islanders! Get me JT on a silver platter, please… -
I guess everyone is at Gabrielle’s. Chris – you should have a live feed for all of the out-of-towners:) Cheers.
-
The Isles will be closer to a playoff spot than the number 1 pick if they keep this up. We have to remember finishing last does not automatically mean we get the number 1 pick.
-
It’s interesting watching Jason Blake. It’s odd how only a couple of years ago, you couldn’t miss him on the ice. He was constantly making things happen and wreaking havoc out there. It’s kind of sad to see how much his game appears to have deteriorated.
-
That’s 3 penalties in a row that Okposo has drawn.
-
another point blank shoutout – i think im the only one who wasnt able to attend
-
there’s no pattern:
5:26 Anton Stralman: 2 Minutes for Tripping Kyle Okposo
7:01 Ian White: 2 Minutes for Tripping Kyle Okposo
8:32 Pavel Kubina: 2 Minutes for Holding Kyle Okposo -
You’re not the only one! It must be packed there cuz it’s empty here.
-
So we’ve got Philly, LA, Brooklyn and Jersey. That’s pretty cool! Am I the only Long Islander who didn’t go to PB night?
-
I was thinking how much fun they must be having. Its and exciting game. The beer is probably flowing. And then I wondered, “how many of those point blank readers who want the Islanders to lose are actually there?”
they can’t be happy. The team looks great. All of them are like a team possessed since the trade deadline
-
Chris M, I was thinking the same thing. When Jaffe said the people at PB Night probably are hoping for another goal I figured the opposite based on what most of the posters write here.
-
i can imagine what it must be like there with them watching the game, up 2-1 and everyone is screaming NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! wait staff removing the knives and forks, must be a fun night. oh yeah, staten island is here too…..lol
-
Isles looking good again tonight.
This is getting scary.
I can’t believe about 2 months ago I was ready to cancel Centre Ice.
Even if we do not lock up the bottom spot… we can always win the lottery… wouldn’t that be sweet.
-
Did you guys see Belak drop Brashear?
-
This winning games stuff IS getting scary. If Kyle Okposo is only gonna get better, maybe drafting 2nd isn’t so bad.
-
As much as I like Bailey, pairing Okposo with Tavares would be something to behold.
-
Am I the only one who thinks that Rechlicz looks like a long lost Hanson brother?
-
Witt telling a player on Toronto to “Go back to Moscow” is classic…. he is getting his snarl back
-
Tavarses will probably play the wing.
-
Bergy hurt…
-
Tavares on the wing? Really. He’s listed as a center everywhere I’ve seen.
-
more injuries..what else is new..
-
this is god trying to help us get Tav
-
Bergy with a groin strain? Tough break, he and Okposo have been the best players on the ice for the Isles the past few weeks.
-
Hopefully Bergie’s cool. If he need’s to shut it down it’s definitely unfortunate but he’s shown Gordon at least that he belongs on this team and is a legit player.
-
I really like the way their breakout has looked over the last bunch of games. However, I’m worried about when DP comes back next season. I’m concerned that his overplaying of the puck and his constant looks down ice will disrupt something good.
-
sweet that ot loss might get us john tavares
-
Let’s stop talking about Tavares when we keep getting points.
-
1 point is better than 2
-
#28 NYC Matt – i saw that as well and laughed my ass off.
-
1 point is too many. I hate rooting for them to lose but Atlanta and TB are so bad, we will likely not end up in last place.
-
Atlanta 0-0 in the 2nd
-
All I want is for them to lose and they continue to win or get points. Maybe the last 25 years I should have been rooting for them to lose?
I want tavares. I am thrilled with the play of okposo, bergy and even comeau lately. We need tavares. I also like this Matt Martin they interviewed tonight.
-
Atlanta scored two late second period goals, the latter with 0.6 seconds left to take a 2-0 lead.
-
2-0 atlanta goal with .6 seconds left nice
-
Atlanta isn’t as bad as everyone perceives them especially as of late they have been scoring goals and Kari is playing better. If Kari can play at this level consistently and the Islanders play like they do on the road usually we should be okay.
-
Julie #27, no, he looks like Dave Navarro. Google it. You’ll see. And Sean better be fine!! Although I’m sure he’ll be missing a few games.
-
Bergie will be out for a while with a strained groin
-
that atl colorado game going to ot would be ideal
-
Lighthouse news: Murray is going to ask Nassau County for some stimulus $$ for the lighthouse according to Newsday thoughts?
-
Joey MAC continues to give up “soft” goals and I think that is going to ruin any chance of seeing him next year. Danis on the other hand has done a nice job of NOT allowing the softies. The first goal by Joey just looked like he got handcuffed a bit. The big rebound in OT was also not that great.
Only got one point; it helps. Kyle Okposo was a monster tonight. He is at a different level and if continues to grow at this pace he can be something really special.
-
chris ( 50) thats great news
-
Kyle Okposo is the first islanders draft pick to score 15 goals for the Islanders since Ziggy Palffy in 98-99. Scary.
-
Milbury probably thought DP could exceed 15 goals as he constantly referred to his stickhandling ability as reason for drafting him #1 overall. Just one of nauseating draft days.
-
just imagine this
Bergenheim-Tav-Kyle
Frans-Hunter-Joensuu
Comeau-Bailey-Tambellini
Jackman-Mcammond-Parki dont think thats half bad
-
switch frans and comeau line made a mistake lol
-
Chris (50) actually just read the article, she wants money to renovate coliseum, but it seems she is doing it to in a way to delay the lighthouse project. It starting to see like its not just taking long because of the process but long because Murray is quietly trying to do all she can to delay it or make it go away
-
Just checked their website and Bridgeport won tonight and took over first place in their division. Jon Sim scored again, his fifth goal since being sent down. Although he may never play for the Isles again, at least he’s not sulking. While I agree he was invisible for the Isles for most of the season I wonder if he was just slow recovering from his knee injury of a year ago. It’ll be interesting to see if he gets the call if Bergenheim is out for awhile. My guess is they’ll probably go with a youngster although Sim and Bergenheim each play left wing.
-
(1984) I honestly don’t know could be could be not a ploy we’ll see
-
Pritchett(53) that is an AMAZING stat. To think that he is the first who will have 20 in a season (hopefully) is incredible, but to think that Bergie may be the first to have 30 in a CAREER in that period… That is some great work by Mike Milbury.
Bergy was DEAD on the PK the shift before he went down. They might have to shut him down.
Streit played 28mins… obviously TOR’s strategy was to wear him down with 10mins of PP time in the second period.
I must be spoiled, but McLean seemed invisible tonight. Get Joensuu back up here!
Not one word on this board about Bruno’s FIRST(?) bout… Did anybody catch Gordon smiling after the that… One of the players had to have cracked on Bruno…
Okposo is gonna be special… I just hope they don’t waste him in the AHL. He needs a few weeks off, and then a few hours a day in the gym…
Iggy looks like a keeper as well.. this could be a very interesting draft day… especially with Matt Martin in the hole.
i wouldn’t be surprised at all if we don’t wind up with 2 firsts in the top 12 and a team that is 2 years younger on average next year.
Then I’ll be impressed! -
Spinner… not to be Columbo… but my guess is that Sim was the veteran that blew the whistle on Gordon alienating Guerin. He’s EX-ISLED.
He’s also not nearly as bad as some people made him out to be. Between the recovery time, the dramatic change in philosophies between Nolan and Gordon and the gap to get kids time… plus his own personality.. he needs to be somewhere else.
With any luck, if he has a good playoff stint somebody will pick him up on re-entry waivers… or snow will pick something up for him on draft day. I think we’ve seen the last of Sim. I’d bet that him and gordo can’t be in the same room. PURE SPECULATION. -
Just wondering if anyone else heard the Toronto reporter bring up the subject of “tanking” to Gordon during the post-game interview. What a freakin’ idiot !!!. What about Ottawa, Colorado, Tampa?!. Has this guy bothered to check the stats and see we’re over .500 over the past 20 or so games? Gordon just said no one had brought it up before now and he looked like he wanted to pummel the guy! Toronto = No Class
-
Did anyone catch Billy Jaffe interview Matt Martin between the second and third periods? Good stuff.
-
That question about “tanking” has been a hot topic for Leaf fans. I do not believe it was geared towards Gordon and the Isles.Didn’t see Napolean’s post game so I cant say if she asked the same question to him.
-
(28) Matt, I just watched the game on DVR and watched Witt mouth it a few times. Hilarious.
Tonight was just another step. It will be a shame if Bergy is out for a while, and I think he will be. I think at this point of the season I am sold on Danis being the backup to Rick next year. MacDonald seems to give up more juicy rebounds as opposed to Danis and Danis’s overall positioning seems better.
-
coach b(63) center Ice package had TOR feed. As you see a few post’s above I really like MM. I think he’s going to be something special, but have very little evidence except what I find on the net.
I have a feeling he’s only going to be at Bridgeport a short time. He seems to be something the Isles desperately need if he can bring it at that level. I see Dave Scatchard…with Nystrom-esque upside.
the kind of player we all wanted Hunter to become. -
Witt yelling F you to Ponakarovsky (sp) then telling him to go back to F’ing Moscow was the funniest thing I’ve seen all year. That’s word for word what he said. I played it over and over and couldn’t stop laughing..
-
JPinVA:
I think you are right about Sim being exiled for good and quite possibly he was the one with the loose lips. I guess fellow residents of VA think alike. I think we’ll know for sure the extent of Sims sins if Bergenheim is out for awhile and someone else is called up. -
Did anyone think that Snow and Gordon might be beginning to play for the 1st pick? It seemed as if the Okposo line was barely out in the 3rd period. Moreover, Gordon is playing MacDonald just as much as Danis, even though he’s clearly worse. I can only hope that they’re playing for Tavares.
-
60- Bruno looked like a pro out there with the fisticuffs. Grabbing the jersey and jabbing at Whites face. I think hes been practicing during the morning skate. And I mentioned to my father how Gordon was caught on cam smiling…the second time in a week!
And the Witt thing. Hysterical. I saw the F You but when he said Go Back to Moscow I almost lost it
Sorry about the double post CB. Needed to praise Bruno and his new found toughness
-
Wow, that had to be some party with no update here past 1 am. Hope CB isn’t kissing the porcelain god and forgetting everything that’s happened in the last 24 houres. I was so excited for the third jersey update.
-
Perhaps Royalty Bloodline Bourne brought Guerin’s credit card with him
-
The power play is what hurt the team tonight, Two 5 on 3′s both for 25 or so seconds but we need to score a goal on either of them and the game is ours. Iggy looks good, congrats to Bruno on the fight..he looked good. Pretty boring game all around. I didn’t think Mclean was invisible..he did have a few big hits. I’d like Joesuu also, but I give Mclean credit…he works hard. Think he was playing with the Wrecker on fourth line duties. Nice goal by Okie…man he’s hot. Watching the game, the turnovers that led to Toronto’s final two goals were all they really got. We lost this one ourselves.
-
JP @ 66 – Martin = Scatch was my first thought exactly after reading a bit about Matt as well.
-
#67 – I caught that too!! I was wondering if anyone else did…That was great, love the Witter
-
#73 In my defence, the TOR broadcast team didn’t make a point of giving McLean credit for his physical play. As they say in horseracing, “he barely got a call”.
I did see one hit where two guys went at it hard, and I thought it was Kurtis skating from the heap to the bench… If he can put up moderate NHL numbers and deliver a physical game there will always be a place for him. -
Center Ice offered both Toronto and Isles broadcast. I watched on MSG +.
-
(77) – Crap. My cable (Ottawa) includes Leafs TV and Centre Ice. I assumed the Centre Ice broadcast would be the same feed as Leafs TV, but I never checked. That’s too bad, as the Leafs’ broadcasters are brutal. They were fans of Okposo’s though, and they were convinced that Iggy had his first goal on a deflection.

I’ll take this as another positive step towards getting the Light House Final Approval. The LHDG has gone above and beyond to educate the community … they should be commended for that.
Have a blast at PBN II … I’ll be playing in our first playoff game trying to do my best Sean Bergenheim impression.
I look forward to your Coach Gordon piece CB… Also look forward to reading about the festivities when I get home / or tomorrow morning.
Enjoy all… stay safe and have a blast.
