ISLANDERS COUNTRY HELD HOSTAGE, DAY 3
7:35 pm - Hunter injured; Weight part of Guerin deal?
7:35 - Billy Jaffe reports that Trent Hunter is injured, that he “tried to go” during warmups. Makes you wonder why the Islanders didn’t have another Bridgeport player here if Hunter couldn’t play, but alrighty then.
It’s possible the Islanders excel dressing only 17 skaters.
Islanders PR just came over to say Trent has a “lower body injury.” Someone else said it’s an ankle.
*
7:15 pm - Saturday, it was Bill Guerin mysteriously missing when the game started.
Tonight, it’s Trent Hunter. Islanders playing shorthanded again. Hunter was at the Coliseum before the game. Where he is now is unknown.
*
7:00 pm - Opening faceoff between the Islanders and Colorado about to drop, and no word of a deal. Three hours until the end of live-blogging a Bill Guerin trade.
Scott Gordon was asked before the game if Guerin would be in the lineup Thursday against the Rangers if he isn’t traded by the Wednesday 3:00 pm deadline. The Islanders coach said yes and added, ”I have no issues with Billy.”
Team represented with scouts at tonight’s game: Philadelphia, Rangers, San Jose, Detroit. Obviously, they’re not here to watch Guerin and Doug Weight. Colorado could be selling, too.
*
3:25 pm - Doug Weight could join Bill Guerin in a package deal before Wednesday’s trade deadline, a league source tells Point Blank.
The offer that prompted the Islanders to take Guerin out of the lineup on Saturday is no longer 100% intact. However, as the Islanders contemplate a series of trade proposals for their captain, at least one of the offers requests Weight’s inclusion in the deal. The playmaking center, currently out with a knee injury, is 9-26-35 in 44 games this season.
This would be a victory for the close friends, who enjoyed their reunion on Long Island and proved they still have good on-ice chemistry. It could also be a victory for the Islanders, who might finally strike a deal that satisfies their demands for both Guerin and Weight.
The 38-year old forwards are potential unrestricted free agents this summer.
*
2:50 pm - I have made the editorial decision that if Guerin is not traded by 10:00 tonight, the Bye-Bye-Billy Live Blog will end.
Not that I’m sick of it - and I have nothing against a little blog on the NHL’s worst team getting 2 million daily hits - but it would simply be time to move on. There will be plenty of news items. There are a few other stories I can tell. (I hope to have a solid one at the end of tonight’s game). When - if - a Guerin deal happens, we’ll write it up just like any news story.
When we started it on Saturday, I just didn’t think we’d be here this long. And if it hasn’t already, I don’t want it to degenerate into complete and utter BS.
And you know that once I pull the plug, Billy will finally, mercifully, be outta here. Yeah, I’m going to go with that. I know you’re reading. I’m doing this for you, Billy.
*
2:25 pm - Greg Logan preparing for Guerin-Gordon reunion if the captain isn’t dealt soon.
Joe Callahan no doubt appreciates the love and concern.
Teams are preparing their “clear day” rosters, the players eligible to play in the American Hockey League playoffs. That’s why you’re seeing depth guys like Callahan and Nycholat on waivers today. That’s all it is.
*
1:55 pm - When does the statute of limitations on predicting the Islanders’ trade partner for Bill Guerin end? As I wrote a few times yesterday, I was zeroed in on the Washington Capitals. But that was my prediction of the team that made the offer that prompted Garth Snow to take Guerin out of the lineup almost 40 hours ago.
There is a difference. Whatever that offer was, it might not be on the table anymore. Seems to me if Guerin isn’t dealt by the start of tonight’s game, the Islanders have moved on to other offers. They may have already.
Is all this Guerin mayhem getting in the way of the Islanders conducting other business? It’s not ideal, but no. The team is capable of juggling the Guerin dilemma with offers for Andy Hilbert, Radek Martinek, Doug Weight, Brendan Witt and others. I always thought if any of those Islanders were dealt, it would be closer to the Wednesday afternoon deadline. Maybe the Islanders can close the Guerin case by then to be fully focused on those final-hour swaps.
*
1:17 pm - Get a load of this: Jesse Joensuu has been called up from Bridgeport. The 6-4 Finnish right wing, the Islanders’ top upside-potential prospect with the Sound Tigers, will make his NHL debut tonight in place of Bill Guerin. If you can’t make it to the game - as many won’t with this weather - catch JJ’s premiere on VERSUS.
Didn’t think Joensuu would get a game on the Island this season. Then again, there’s been a lot of unpredictable stuff around these parts this season.
*
1:15 pm - Two media notes. Point Blank will have a brief stint on NHL Home Ice on XM Radio sometime in the 3:00 pm hour today to talk you-know-what with Mike Ross and Gary Green.
Also, I was wrong in my estimate on News 12 Long Island last night. Michael Colman asked me how many Hits the site would get on Sunday. I told him we did more than 800,000 on Saturday, so figured we’d do a little over a million on Sunday. I was off by a bit.
The final tally was 2,178,434. And to think, Sunday is usually the slowest day of the week by far.
*
12:45 pm - Although frustration has reached several parts of Islanders Country at both Shining and Shawshank levels, perhaps it’s time for a little perspective. I’ve dug up the True Value piece I wrote on Bill Guerin seemingly two months ago, but in reality 12 days ago. I’ve copy-and-pasted the bottom half of my story, all that matters. It could shed some light on the holdup, or at least the difficulties that come with a deal like this. Looking forward to your feedback.
February 20, 2009
True Value: Since it’s Guerin’s call, the Islanders’ asking price could be diminished. A first round pick or top prospect would seem out of the question. So you know what that means. (Since some readers get really irked every time I say an Islander is worth a second-rounder, I’ll end it there). And do you remember this Saturday afternoon conversation?
PB View: The Islanders should include Guerin and his representative in every step of the process. They should show him this respect not just because he holds the no-move and all the cards, but also because he is their captain and has given the franchise two solid years.
Prediction (as of Feb. 20*): Too much has to happen for this to get done. We predict Guerin ends up not being moved, and then is signed by another team in the summer. Because of the no-move clause - which the Islanders included to get Guerin to New York - they will receive nothing in return for him. Until we hear that the Guerin camp and Islanders management is getting together to seriously discuss his future, that’s our prediction and we’re sticking to it.
*
11:55 am, NVMC - Islanders fans frustrated by the lack of Bill Guerin trade news may now have a kindred spirit.
Bill Guerin.
In a story posted about a half hour ago by TSN, whispers of Guerin’s discontent have surfaced: “Sources tell TSN that Guerin has become frustrated by the ongoing uncertainty and has done nothing to complicate or stall the trade from going through.”
Guerin has always been open and accessible with the media. And now, as I wrote yesterday, he is in a situation where he’s had to lie, fib or - worse - avoid not just press pals by real-life friends. Billy and I have a very close mutual friend, a very close mutual friend who has no idea what’s up with Bill and is dying to find out. While no one is crying for Guerin, it is a difficult situation.
The Islanders did not have a replacement forward at their morning skate, just completed at the Coliseum. Richard Park skated but told me he needs to rest another week. Nate Thompson skated today, but is not an option. A forward from Bridgeport should be on his way. Whoever it is, he played in three games the last three days. He didn’t need a workout this morning.
*
12:10 am, March 2 - That should do it for the night, friends. Thanks for the feedback on the News 12 phoner. Turned into a Point Blank infomercial, so I got that going for me. Which is nice.
If the Islanders trade Bill Guerin or (as expected) continue to keep him off the ice until a trade is done, the team needs a forward from Bridgeport. Trouble is, tonight’s home game against goalie coach Jeff Hackett’s Colorado Avalanche would be the Sound Tigers player’s fourth in four days. Maybe Richard Park can throw on a flak jacket and rush back.
If the Islanders are recalling a player from Bridgeport, it’s possible he got on the road soon after his team’s 3-2 win in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton today. The traveling will be nasty today. By the way, that’s three wins in three days for Jack Capuano’s team. Added to the Islanders’ impressive win over Buffalo, that’s four organeyezational victories buried in the avalanche of the Guerin saga.

I think everyone on this blog should give CB a great big THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, for all the hard work this weekend.
I can’t wait for this to be over!! At least we know it won’t go on past Wednesday.
according to pierre lebrun, it sounds like you’re right picking washington. guerin straight up for ovechkin? that would be nicer than my day off tomorrow.
Thanks CB great job!!
So who do yo think will be the next captain?
Thanks for the fantastic work this weekend, CB.
“organeyezation” LOL. Always love how the canadian players say that.
Gotta think Trevor Smith makes it up here
Andy Strickland is reporting Philly but they are waiting for the Flyers to clear cap room. Its my understanding that Strickland has a friendship with Guerin from his days in St. Louis.
Thanks again Chris for keeping us all updated around the clock on this topic. Can’t wait to finally hear what the final word will be, hopefully we find out soon because I can’t take much more of this suspense/drama.
putting things in perspective for a second, I’m REALLY impressed with how things were able to stay secret all this time. Better that we’re left inlimbo not knowing anything than having us know where Guerin is going but it not being announced for 24 hours, or, worse yet, the deal falling through. Maybe the Islanders are cleaning themselves up a bit…
Cb, thank you so much. You have given us all honest evaluations that many teams don’t do for their fans.
You have also provided me with a study break option that I need as I have locked myself in my house preparing for next week.
Thank you sir.
Yea thanks alot CB hopefully we can get out of this whole thing with a decent prospect and a good pick. Just looking towards the future. Question to all….does anyone else get delt hurt or not?
this is how lou lambs operates - in complete secrecy and you play his way or you don’t play for him at all. not a bad guy for snow to emulate.
Thanks for all the updates on this, CB. You’re the only source I trust regarding the NYI these days.
CB we all love you! EVERYONE come to Islanders Point Blank night next week!
I’d like to see Smith, and if not Smith, then Kurtis McLean
Hey CB you can count my Wife and I in for next week, traveling up from DELAWARE, YES DELAWARE. If the Isles past trade and drafting woes continue the trade will be:
Bill Guerin & Isles 1st rd pick to OTTAWA
MIKE COMRIE to Isles
(HAVING YASHIN FLASHBACKS! IMAGINE SPEZZA PASSING TO KO!)
Will we see a Jeff Hackett interview?
Fritz or Reichlez could play.
It makes the most sense that what is holding up the trade is either the other team needs to clear cap space or someone is getting a contract extension that needs owner approval.
it won’t be Philly .they are at the cap wall. If they were going to do this trade Beria would have been left on IR for three more days
this is taking forever i wish we knew already
i still want afinagenov lol
Thanks, CB. This blog is Gold, Jerry, GOLD!
I think the next captain won’t be named until next season in camp. We’ll see who they get in trade and who they get as FA’s. They might name one of the younger guys captain. At any rate, we’ll know next camp. Of the youngsters Okposo, Bergy, and Bailey seem like potential choices. I’d say Comeau too but he has to show more of a consistent game.
Montreal has a lot of nice prospects on wing and defence. Like some of Washington’s, and a few from Philly.
Either way should be an interesting few days.
John Carlson looks like a good prospect from the Caps. With Alzner, Schultz and Greene as very solid D prospects/players already in their system they might afford to part with him.
Okposo is my bet for A next season. If Weight resigns he could get the nod as captain, but Witt is also a possibility.
Flyers and caps both called up giluys from minors earlier, maybe they r replacing guys they r moving. Maybe a 3 team trade?
CB(clap clap) CB(clap clap)
Shades of the Jeremy Roenick rumours of how many years ago?
Headlines in the Newsday every day.
And it never happened.
Get some rest Chris ’cause tomorrow you’ll be shovelling snow all day.
And I don’t mean Garth Snow….SW
Thanks for the coverage CB, say that the trade does happen (which it probably will), who will step up and the position of captain for the remainder of the season? Witt (will possibly get traded), Park (I don’t really see him as a captain), Weight (gone by the end of the season). We’ll just wait and see what dandy Snow makes out of this.
Andreas:
Greene…??? Come on. You can’t be serious if you think the caps can “afford” to part with probably the best young defencemen in the game… Let’s have some sense of reality…
DOC
Andreas:
My appologies… I read your post wrong… I thought you were suggesting Greene or schultz to be included in the trade.
DOC
Trevor Smith.
Let’s not overlook the Pens just yet. If the general consensus is that NJ, NYR, BOS, BUF and CAR are out of the picture, take a look at the relative cap room and strength down the right side of the remaining possibilities.
Who do PHI or WAS bump to make room for Guerin on a scoring line? It’s way too dangerous to mess with the chemistry of success this late in the season. Washington would seem the more likely of the two, but the Caps are third in the league in goals-scored without him. They’d be better off dealing for additional D or a playoff-proven net-minder.
Montreal has cap issues and internal problems bigger than Bill Guerin can fix.
The Penguins seem like the only reasonable conclusion. They’ve been starting AHL players all season…forcing career 3rd and 4th liners to assume scoring roles. As a 38-year-old UFA and Cup-winner, Guerin would bring a veteran presence that’s been sorely lacking in that locker room since Recchi, Roberts and Malone left. Beyond Sykora, they have NOTHING on the right-wing. Satan chips one in every now and then — when the mood (or the puck) hits him — but he’s never clicked with Crosby or shown the ability or desire to finish with the consistency needed from a top-6 forward. He’s found himself on the fourth line beside Godard all too often.
Rest assured, Ray Shero is not going to be satisfied with simply adding Kunitz and leaving that gaping hole on Sid’s right for this year’s playoff run. Last season, it was Hossa who Ray brought in at the deadline to fill the void. There’s absolutely no comparison between the two — aside from the fact that they both wear helmets and shoot from the right — but Billy’s head and shoulders above any of their current options. Sid has no chemistry with anyone but Dupuis and Malkin (who’s back to centering his own line since Bylsma took over) at this point, so there’s really nothing to jeopardize in that respect. The forward to be bumped to the press box would be an AHL player…no one of significance. Guerin’s UFA status and age make him another rental…nothing more, nothing less. The Pens have little use for their draft picks, considering their best players and future are all locked up long-term and under the age of twenty-five.
It makes sense all the way around. So, why the hold up? Well, Shero’s probably on the phone with his favorite trading partner, Don Waddell, trying to land Kovalchuk for Jordan Staal, a half-eaten Snickers and some magic beans. Don will take anything.
Just a theory…
Think about it…
Kunitz - Crosby - Guerin
Fedotenko - Malkin - Sykora
Dupuis - Staal - Satan/Kennedy
Cooke - Talbot - Godard
Hey…
It ain’t Hossa, but it’s a step up from the combinations they put out there most nights.
It’s 5:39 am and all I have to do is watch the weather channel and wonder where Guerin is headed…..insomnia is a horrible thing
Good Morning all. Thanks CB for all your excellent work keeping us informed and entertained- -I love this blog!!
I did think we’d know about Guerin by now, but I’m snowed in with my kids as predicted (AAAAAUUUUUUGH) thank goodness I can check this blog for respite
I hope trade does go through with Caps as it would be great fun to cheer for Billy and Ovie in the race for the cup
i will say that garth and his trading partner will have formed a nice bond of trust after this, cause in this day of age with many Bottas (not as good of course!) poking around, keeping the world in the dark on this is impressive…
im pretty tired of this though, and im still pretty sure if the trade is us just giving up Bill Guerin, then we are all going to be mighty disappointed when we find out after 4 days what we are getting back.
Strummer @ 24 - Which Bailey are you watching every night? George? Beetle? Ace? The one playing in the Islander uniform is far from being a captain in this league. No doubt there is plenty of upside potential but naming him a captain now turns this whole thing into more of a mockery than it currently is. Same for Bergenheim. Just because he’s had a couple of good games doesn’t mean he should be coronated yet.
CB take a break…. I heard the Isles don’t trade on snow days. thanks for all you’ve done already. this is the first site I check every time I go online.
If the Islanders need a foward tonight, Jesse Joensuu won’t get the call but it encouraging that he has played his best hockey of the season recently.
Well, thank goodness the weekend is over. I can finally read through the comments and see that the familiar names are back. Wow, that was some hit. I’m sure alot of those readers have bookmarked this site and we’ll see that surge again, come Tuesday/Wednesday.
Great Job CB keeping us up to date on this whole mess. At this point, it seems that no one knows what’s going on and I don’t anticipate anything happening today. We’ll see.
Again, great to see the familiar names and actually be able to read through the comments.
BTW, CB, congrats on the ridiculous stats. I told you you’d get some PerezHiltonian #’s this week.
Thanks for a job very well done CB. Once the deal is complete and more info available, I can’t wait for CB’s final analysis on how the Isles handled this situation. Did they overplay their cards and lose their leverage with say a Washington and/or other teams? Or did they help themselves with the buzz and create a bidding war? We shall see.
theBomber, I think Garth has won over a ton of GM’s with his tight lips. I’m sure it could only benefit us.
Maybe the deal is with the rangers, Maybe they asked Isles to pick up Avery so no one else could and then they will trade avery and guerin to the rangers
Gunga galunga…gunga gunga galunga
this site is awesome…not only is CB the best source for Isles news, but we also get a Caddyshack reference!
Who else is a bit annoyed at fate that the biggest snowstorm of the year hits when the Islanders have national coverage of a home game? Versus better tell the rest of the NHL that this is our biggest storm of the year- and that there is no mass transit to NVMC.
Great work CB on the texts, phone calls, and running around. Thats what makes this #1 for all us die-hards. Over a million hits? Prob 1,000 of them from me last 3 days. Unfortunately, after ALL this hoopla, and speculation, that a #2 or 3 rounder and a prospect is what will come of it. Keep Witt !!!
This is just downright stupid…especially based on the fact that the Isles will just get a draft pick and a prospect (if they’re lucky).
I’d be ok with a 2nd rounder… and agree 100% on keeping Witt….
Thanks for keeping us somewhat updated, hopefully this all works out in the end. Though I think many may have their hopes up too high and will be disappointed.
I would like to see Colliton called up for tonight. We really need help on faceoffs. That being said, knowing the weather was projected to be bad, I would hope the Isles were smart enough to call up someone YESTERDAY. I would be pissed to hear we are 1 player short tonight because of the snow.
Yeah…big kudos to the BSTs. I realize an AHL affiliate should be used to changing their roster on a daily basis to backfill the big club, but they’ve had to rework things quite frequently and STILL manage to carve up a winning record. Great work to all the players and Coach Jack.
The next captain perhaps won’t be assigned for a season or two.
Who else would you see as possibly qualified for a leadership role? Maybe Hunter? Giving it to Bailey so soon may be too much pressure and it could turn into a Kenny Jonsson debacle. Rotate the “A”s all around for this season and next until one emerges, perhaps chosen by the team itself rather than the coach.
CB, you’re the man.
As for the Islanders: GONNNGGGG
Sarnia clinched a playoff spot, so no DiBo, Martin or Katic in Bridgeport anytime soon.
The comments over the past several days appear to me to offer a mirror as to fans’ expectations/disappointments with this team … an interesting measure of the state of the Islanders Nation. Look at all the readings offered about the same set of sparse facts.
CB,
Awesome site.
Breaking news…..
Isles sign CB to 5yr 25mil deal with a no trade clause.
Now that would be worth it !
wow..look how many sponsors CB has now. GO CB! Keep all the update coming.
Chris TMC (46), I know what you mean. 5000 at the Coliseum tonight would be a lot. I am hopefully going along with one other but who knows what happens later in the day. Maybe I can make an appearance on the VS cameras like AZS did last year when the Isles were home against the Rangers. I am not sure if any of you saw that or remember it but it was hilarious!
They are not letting Billy go till he shovels the coliseum parking lot for tonights game
In all fairness to Snow and Co., they haven’t done a thing wrong to this point. The team pulled Guerin before the game because there is strong possibility that he is to be traded….thats all Snow has done. We (all media and fans) have speculated the rest. Does the organization owe any explanation to us fans…..I don’t think so. They are not the ones that are creating the media circus around this. CB, you’re coverage of this and everything else for that matter has been excellent and second to known. Keep up the great work and I’ll continue updating your site in hopes I see the headline “Guerin is traded to …..”
I would LOVE to go to the game tonight if only I could. Last game I made at the NVMC was that snowy day last year - women in heels night or something. They broke their losing streak and Tamby had a goal. Took 3 hours to get there and missed the first period but was so worth it anyway!
Thanks for all of the updates CB, it’s been nice to check in, get the latest from you, and read some of the comments. Some good stuff and also good laughs.
4 wins in 3 days between the clubs should be acknowledged again. Go teams!!
(58) I’m glad CB is getting the sponsors but the one with the Islanders Tavares jersey is FREKAING me out!! Talk about a jinx… watch the isles roll out a 7 game winning streak
I like how the Isles roll. Even in 30th place with no hope for the forseeable future, they get Isles fans to sit in “suspense” some real “anticipation” for what will amount to a 2nd rd pick & a prospect who will NEVER see the light of day in the NHL.
All of this for Bill Guerin, a guy who agreed to play out the string of his career with a crap organization, for two reasons, as a favor to his buddy & a **** load of cash. Quite a heart-warming story. A friggin’ regular after school special.
When does this farce of a season end?
Can we pleaaaaaaaaaaaase get some Guerin news today??? It’s the only thing keeping me going since I’m the ONLY one who showed up at my job today lol…I need somethin!!
OMG i agree seeing that jersey this early is a jinx imo….
CB any word yet on who’s taking the snowmoble to the old barn from soundtigers yet…
( * please no Fritz keep that abominal snowman away from this team I can’t stand him no more and to me there are many more people on bridgeport who can play more then 3min and at least do something beside try to fight or take a horrible penalty or get outclassed by any Av to score a goal )
whoa vent lol…. sry CB & grats on your TV spot last night…
looking forward to tonights game….
LETS GO ISLANDERS!!!!
I’ve got tickets for tonight, along with a group of 8 or 10 others. I’m game to give it a shot but we’ll see who else is willing to brave it.
It’s 10:08 am. Do you know where your Captain is? Good Morning. WRITE SOMETHING!
bossy22 - Point taken. Strange though that on Saturday the team said it would have an announcement on Sunday, only to say on Sunday that the announcement is there is no announcement. Lack of info will probably just fuel the crazy speculation we’ve seen, all for what, as CB noted, will likely be a fairly anti-climatic ending.
Oh well, fun read over the last few days CB…nice job.
Bossy (61) - Exactly. I said it yesterday and I’ll say it again today, I don’t even think there is a media circus because the traditional media just isn’t paying much attention to this story. More like a blog commenters circus! Check-out Dreger’s most recent story on TSN. The hold-up appears to be with the Isles’ trading partner. Yet, somehow, according to some fans, it’s all the Isles’ fault and another “circus.” I can only imagine what they’d be saying if Garth had done what some commenters were demanding yesterday, and stood before the cameras to triumphantly announce that a deal was close at hand…
Thanks CB and awesome site. Seems as if every team is denying they are part of any deal for Guerin. As far as a captain goes, if Witt is still here he has to be next. He appears to really want to stay here
For Tonights game i would like to see Mike Iggulden. lost in the system it seems like but he is the points leader..Wouldnt Hurt at this point to see what he can do in the BIG SHOW.. alot of good players in B’port…(Walter,Colliton,Smith,Mclean)!
Will there be a morning skate with the weather being so bad? Will Guerin be in the press box tonight? Ohhhhh the suspense is killer. I’ll be sure to listen to NHL Live today… hope Jaffe is on with La Greca. They usually throw some good stuff around.
So for anybody going to the game tonight, what is your reaction going to be when Smyth takes the ice?
Has John Tavares decided if he is going to wear #91? If that’s what he’s decided than you’ be crazy not to buy the jersey now. John Tavares is an Islander.
I hope Tavres turns out to be as good as the original Johnny T!
Bossy 22 is exactly right. It’s not “strange” that the team didn’t have an announcement because anything could of and did happen inbetween sat and sun. The deal could be in the works and they can’t announce what is going on because it could hurt negotiations. The Isles didn’t pull Guerin from the game in order to fuel speculation and make everyone crazy. THEY PULLED HIM TO KEEP HIM FROM GETTING INJURED which would put the brakes on any deal they have in place. They did the right thing and some fans are doing the wrong thing by placing ANY blame on the team for what they call a “circus”. The media and fans are creating the circus and the team is acting in the best interest of the team! How is this not understood?
Also we will get a 2nd and a prospect no one has ever heard of. Calm down with the enthusiasm. I can just see it now, Snow will make this deal and the idiot fans (who may or may not know who they are)will scream and yell how we should have got Ovechkin or Semin or that the deal is bad in some way. They will do this because they built up this big fantasy in their minds and were wrong so instead of blaming themselves they will come in here and badmouth Snow and the Isles. I can’t wait.
hey guys…This is my first time on this blog, ive always been on Logans blog, and i gotta say this one is 100000 times better, there is alot less negativity from fans and no baby fights going on through comments. My take on this GUERINS saga, is that we are getting WAY to excited for something thats not gonna tickle our fancy. I cant see this trade, if it ACTUALLY goes down being a blockbuster trade. I will be happy with a 1st or 2nd round pick and a developing prospect. As for next years CAPTAIN, i agree with whoever wrote that we rotate A’s all season, unless WEIGHT and WITT are still on the team. The only other player i see w/ the C would be HUNTER.
Hopefully i get stuck in my truck at work all day and can listen in for any updates on the “TRADE”….gOTTA LOVE working for a utitly company, where you work in all weather conditions…SONNA MA…
wOAH, that is the worst looking hat i have ever seen, i bet you buy a hat like that you get a free bowl of soup huh?, OH it looks good on you though!!!
@Tom (Comment #75)… Just an FYI Johnny Franchise is wearing #61 since his trade to London. Though, I guess you could just turn it upside down.
**
Tonight is Ryan Smyth Night at the Coliseum. That kind of got lost in the fog over the weekend.
**
The more this stays quiet, the more I am thinking it’s New Jersey for Guerin. As Botta put it, Lou Lamoriello is the only guy who can keep this under wraps for this long.
What a joke of an organazation.
@80 and everyone else who feels this way, what about this situation is a joke?
until we know the details as to what the final result is, and how this all went down, its entirely premature to be casting dispersions on the organization
put your garth hate aside and let the situation play out
Any chance we can pry John Carlson from Washington in a trade for Guerin? 1st round pick from last season is big and has put up great numbers in the OHL this season (playing with John Tavares)
Good Morning Kids…
Hey Botts… Big game tonight.
I’m sure all this hoopla will be over before then, and we can enjoy KO and the boys.
Good Ol’ Ryan Smyth is in town… it will be nice to see him be put through the boards.
That is… if he plays. Lots of rumours surrounding that poor guy too.
I will continue to check back every hour like I have for the last 2 days…lol.
I should have been working. Can’t make any money following CB blog.
Maybe I can ask the Isles for compensation.
Have A Nice Day… Fellow Islander Fans.
The snow you people are enjoying has got too many commenters in a 5 year old’s Christmas Eve frame of mind.
You CANNOT open any presents until Christmas Day.
R-E-L-A-X…
A/Guerin’s present just might disappear.
B/What kind of disappointment are you setting yourself up for if Guerin’s present is a lump of coal?…and with all of this misplaced anticipation, I am beginning to believe that anything less than Ovechkin will result in major post purchase depression.
Just some friendly advice from Dr. 505
Enjoy the Snow!! (Garth too).
Writing something???
Guerin goes to the Atlantic Ocean, Islanders get a whale carcass and Triton’s first pick in 2009.
MR4742 - Ha, relax a bit. CB even said earlier the team should say something to the fans…don’t need details, just a little something beyond two cryptic bullet points in a text message is all. I’ve said nothing about “circus,” etc…in fact I haven’t posted at all since this began. But if the team says it will have a statement on Sunday, then at least put Snow in front of a camera to connect with the fans, even if just to say what was said in the text message, along with a few “I can’t comment on that” answers to some questions. Just would have been a better PR move, imo, than saying “we will have a statement tommorrow,” only to hide in an undisclosed location when tomorrow came leaving poor Coach Gordon to have to answer the media’s questions.
MR (77) - Well said. What’s getting lost in all of this speculation is that we are talking about a 38 year-old Bill Guerin! Before Saturday, many of us were saying that the team would be lucky if it could find a trade for him. Now people are talking blockbuster (?!). Unbelievable.
Good morning Islanders Land. Surprise, surprise no news. My Guess is we will hear nothing until about 7pm unless they make a deal. Thoughts?
Good Point Obs, I think the Versus telecast might be a good place to break any news.
UIF, I hear you. I love CB as much as the next person but he isn’t always right. He’s a man with opinions just like everyone else. He definitely knows more than us regarding certain team issues but in this case he’s just a spectator like the rest of us. I’m just having a hard time understanding why they should “say something” when everyone already knows what’s going on. He would say ‘there is a trade on the table involving Guerin’ and we would say ‘we already know that, tell us more’ and he would say ‘that’s all I can say at this time’. And that would satisfy everyone how? That’s what I’m not understanding. We already know they’re trying to deal Guerin, they told us as much through the coach and by pulling him the other night. Why is that not good enough? Only because we’re a last place team. This happens on a winning team and no one cares.
br #88, We are speculating a blockbuster trade because if you are trading for simply draft picks or propsects it does not take 3 days. The reason this has taken so long is because more than likely there is a prominent player coming back for the islanders to take salary and/or there is a 3rd team involved. This is a big trade if it is ever made.
After seeing what the Patriots got from Kansas City I’m guessing Milbury is their new GM.
Guerin, Martinek, Hilbert, Neilsen, Ness, Smith, Danis and 3 second rounders for …………Lets listen to all the experts. This deal is nothing more than another 2nd rounder or 3rd and a prospect. Been visiting site after site (this one first always) and that seem to be the consensus.
The organization is handling this the right way. Say nothing at all and avoid doing anything to wreck the deal. I’m as anxious as anyone else to hear it but I understand this. And I guarantee that Snow is gaining a lot of respect around the league by doing just that.
And not for nothing, if the circumstances that lead us to this point had occurred on Friday or Sunday nights (ie: non game nights) we never would have found out about it in the first place. And the whiners and complainers would have to find something else to whine and complain about. This stuff goes on all the time and even more so as the deadline approaches. How many deals do you think Snow has offered and received over the last few weeks that we’ll never hear about? And how many more will come between now and Wednesday afternoon?
Jeez Chris, some of the bigger hockey blogs get those numbers on a daily basis.
Stop patting yourself on the back and actually give us some news.
You have not broken any story, Eklund has you beat!
who wants to lay odds that Guerin doesn’t get traded? LOL
Let’s focus on the positive instead… J. Joensuu had 9 points in the last 6 games. Wouldn’t mind seeing him for a few games in the NHL.
Marty #96, Hockeybuzz is a league wide blog this pureley Islanders, hence islanders pointblank. I think over 1500 entries and a million hits says alot for a last place team that somehow has a “dead fanbase”.
I’m with you #97, 1500+ comments of “WTF” if Billy G is at the morning skate today.
And, Marty, Eklund himself on this story has “taken his hat off” to CB…
PB always has updates on the islanders by 1030am. Now i’m just getting annoyed that there isnt even non-Guerin related Islander news… your right CB, i’ve had it.
MR4742 - If nothing else, getting in front of the media would have saved Gordon from having to do it by himself after practice to answer management questions. Of course, I work in media, so I always believe getting out there in front of the press when the public is in a frenzy is the right thing to do, even if just to tell people what they already know. You’re right though that many people would still not be satisfied and Snow-bashing comments would still probably be flying in full force.
#96 Eklund hasn’t broken any stories, he is known for back dating his post after he reads about them on other sites, including this one.
Jisles #99, Nicely said.
Anyone interested in a few a$$hole chants directed at Ryan Smyth?
CB actually has the guts to put his name to this blog unlike ecklund who is the anonymous hockey blogger. If you are going to get into media and journalism put your name to it or else it is garbage.
At least this gives me something to do while I’m bored at work. I can’t wait to see what team gives us that late second-rounder.
Hey Marty re #96, for a blog that is well less than one year old, the numbers CB is getting are great. Why shouldn’t he be proud? I sure would be. Unlike that guy on the site-that-shall-not-be-named CB gives actual insite into the players and prospects and doesn’t just spout phoney drivel day after day.
just ignore marty and the eklund nonsense.
#96 was written by Ek…LOL. probably trolling this site for real news.
I’m anxiously waiting the news as everyone else is. Still can’t see a blockbuster developing here, but I’d be more than happy with a pick and a B prospect.
And whoever is calling to humiliate Smyth tonight should re-evaluate their priorities. Smyth decided to go elsewhere, and is now on the block while having a mediocre season coupled with an albatross contract. I’m glad he’s not still an Islander.
@106, im contemplating going tonight to do just that
anyone else have the same thoughts?
I just realized that the Isles..Avs game is the only game tonight.
With the hockey world watching… there will be an announcement tonight.
Whether it is Deal or No Deal… we will hear about Billy tonight, and who know what other surprises we might be in for.
Definately Must See TV tonight.
What’s everyone’s reaction going to be when this turns out to be a (late) 3rd rounder with a prospect that you never heard of?
Gotta be a second rounder Tim at least.
I heard Howie Mandel will be at the game and have an exclusive interview with Garth.
nyislanders93: why would you want to chat badly at ryan smythe? he made a decision for himself and fam. he owed you or the islanders nothing and was very nice about it.
I think the deal will be billy the great for a #2 and a forward prospect who will prob be a 2/3rd liner. I hope its a big forward at least 6 ft 2 210.
(kevin fitz #74) - he’s about the only player that I’ll watch on the Avs. Otherwise, I’ll be watching Okposo & Bailey for signs of life. There’s no need to boo him - it’s just business.
According to TSN, Guerin is not playing tonight and is becoming frustrated by the uncertainty. It also says Snow is still waiting for the other team to sign off on the deal.
TimQ,
If it turns out to be a late 3rd + prospect (don’t care if I haven’t heard of them, as long as they are a good prospect and hopefully a big bruiser D man one at that)-that isn’t bad depending on the prospect being a good one. I think its possible it will be a late 2nd + prospect OR a late 1st + a salary dump. None is that great, but all help us in the long run.
CB- Until the Guerin charade ends, you should blog about why New Islander players hate the New York Islander Head Coach. This has been a problem since October.
The down fall of popularity. Evident by the exploding number of trolls now on this site. CB- These are the guys who need to be banned ASAP with no warning. We don’t need them. This is what makes this site different from the other 100’s that are out there. A site for Diehard Islander fans who might not agree on everything but can still have an adult convo about it.
hey guerin, take your money for not playing, and shut your pie hole.
The only players who hate the coach are the ones who can’t hack it anymore and are on their downside of their careers or just flat out stink like Campoli.
For those pining for Afinogenov
This is a proposed trade from Alan Muir on SI.com
Buffalo sends Maxim Afinogenov to Minnesota for his weight in fresh walleye
It’s not being impolite to suggest that Afinogenov is the NHL’s version of a toxic asset. There aren’t many players who get less in the way of results out of more talent. Still, the Wild are desperate for scoring touch, and given how plentiful walleye are in the state’s waters, this is surely a price they can afford to pay.
I dont see ANY justification for negativity towards Ryan Smyth. In fact, if there are negative chants at the game it just makes us isles fans look like jerks. We traded for the guy, he played out his contract but decided he wanted to be elsewhere. I dont see where he screwed us.
d-man (117)- When Ryan Smyth signed away to the Avalanche he insulted the Islanders, Long Island, and even New York. He said he didn’t feel welcomed to NY by the fans and players and it just wasn’t a good place to play hockey. He criticized the organization and deserves those chants.
Pritchett54 - I agree. Islanders fans should be thanking him for not signing here. That contract he has is ridiculous.
Anyone that chants obscenities at Ryan Smith tonight is a fricken’ IDIOT!!! and just doesn’t get it.
Yeah… talk about discouraging future free agents from wanting to come to the Islanders… that oughta do it.
A group display by classless fans led by “nyislanders93″ and “eye on the island” goes a lot further to convince potential free agents that this is an undesirable place to play and does more damage than you think.
DOC
ryan smyth sucks
Ryan Smyth will never win anything without US so good riddance!
I think Garth Snow is playing this thing HIS way as to make it all look like we have some hot commodity in Billy Geurin, meanwhile we aren’t going to get much back anyway. I think Billy’s doing the ISLES the favor by not playing with the possibility of getting injured. I love the way that Callahan was going to come to the Aid of Martinek the other night! That’s Awesome!!!
The positive about all of this is that hopefully Wang will realize that Snow is not the answer at GM on this team as he has bungled yet another trade.
Ryan Smyth
2nd rounder for Zednick
Guerin to whomever
DOC,
People really should cite their quotes. This is what Ryan said after practicing at Iceworks:
“It was an emotional time,” he said. “I didn’t think a trade would ever happen out of Ed-monton, but it did. The Islanders welcomed me with open arms, treated me with a great deal of respect. I have nothing but great things to say about that organization.
“We made the playoffs, we got beat out in the first round, but the ownership — Mr. (Charles) Wang — was nice, and was nice about having me and we sat down and chatted for a while. Garth Snow was fresh at being a general manager in the league and he treated not only me but the whole team really well.”
Smyth said he did feel a twinge of regret for not re-signing with the Islanders “because they gave up quite a bit to have me. I think overall, it was tough for me to make a quick decision about something that involved not just me, but my whole family. They made offers right up to July 1, and they were right in the mix, too, when we finally made our decision to come to Colorado. I have a great deal of respect for how they treated me in those two months.”
http://www.denverpost.com/ci_11815626?source=rss
CB, are ice girls available for snow shoveling? It’s a great way to earn some extra cash and get to know your fans!
So, if this were a trade for a prospect or a pick, why is it taking so long for the mystery team to approve the deal?
Smyth signed in Colorado for less money. Its his right to play for an obviously better team, and out west closer to his home. Fine and dandy, no hard feelings. Then he blows smoke up our ass about how it was the hardest decision of his life, how the islanders were in it to the end. If they were in it til the end, why settle for less money? And someday I hope the toughest decision I ever have to make takes me 30 minutes to decide, and involves my getting paid millions of dollars. Just be honest. Say “I have no interest in being part of a rebuild, and I want to play out West.
Maybe Smyth didn’t like the ol’ Barn ’cause it’s a dump. Maybe he saw the disconnect between owner and management and coaching staff. Everyone’s entitled to his opinion.
@ 128 - I don’t recall Smyth ever badmouthing the organization , the team or the area. In fact, he played great for the team in his brief tenure here. I for one am glad the organization isn’t saddled with his contract now but booing him for signing elsewhere when he seemed to be a class act here is just dumb.
ryan smith didnt come as a free agent. he left as one. for less money, and as soon as he could. and he hasnt been the same player since. he is a nobody in the nhl now, and he should thank glen sather for shelling out fat contracts to gomez, drury and redden so his isnt the worst in hockey. he isnt worth our breath…
however id still do that trade again, it was worth the shot….
I wonder if this team will ever get it together. What are the chances when Kyle Okposo comes to his own and is up for contract he will want to resign???
Boo Smyth??? With the foot of snow and a another shatty team playing us, there might be 4,000 people there tonight.
I would hope Free Agents would not even know or care that we boo Smyth. I doubt the Rangers will attract less free agents because of the abuse Redden has gotten from Ranger Fans this year. However, thank god he did not sign here. He is very overpaid for the production he gives you.
Arguably we were not rebuilding when we traded for Smyth.
Is it me or does Bailey appear to be out of gas. Maybe they should take him out for a couple of games to rest. Probably not used to playing three or four games per week.
Bri: Why are you directing that statement at me… I agree that Smyth was a class act. NY just wasn’t right for him. We should NOT be chanting obscenities at him like a bunch of 5 years olds like “NYISLANDERS93″ AND “EYE ON THE ISLAND” are suggesting. He didn’t want to play here… what’s the big deal?
DOC
Well they booed the hell out of Blake the other night so I don’t see tonight being any different.
Where is this guy? I feel like a baby bird begging for a regurgitated worm.
Does anyone realize that Smyth is not a “franchise player.” He was captain in Edmonton for 1 year. He was hurt most of last year and is not really tearing it up. I feel there is a bunch of Isles fans who really had zero clue who he was, saw how much the Edmonton fans cried and thought this guy was God. You could make the case that Peca (before his knee injury) was a much better player than Smyth. It isn’t like Colorado is lighting it up.
Why even waste your time boing someone who is so irrevelant?
Doc (130)- You really are honestly going to say that because we boo Ryan Smyth it will stop free agents from coming to the Islanders? That is the most insane statement I have ever heard. Every team’s fans in the NHL boo their former players that sign away during free agency unless it is an exception like Mats Sundin with the Maple Leafs who played 13 years with them. We gave up so much for Smyth, how can you not expect us to boo him when he signs away for less money?
Guys,
As far as guys LEAVING US via Free Agency, recent history shows that things don’t always work out too well for the players; It’s mostly just been coincidental but think about it…it could’ve happened while they were playing for us!
puckhead - I thought the same about Bailey. Explain to him sitting out for a couple of games is NOT a punishment, and just let him watch a few from the outside. It would give him a rest, and also let him see things unfolding from above that maybe he doesn’t see if he’s right down there on the ice. Couldn’t hurt.
Puckhead @ 144 - I have been noticing that as well. Bailey showed some great vision and hands at the outset and has been kinda invisible lately. I think he’ll turn it around once he adds some confidence and maybe 20 lbs of muscle but it is a little concerning.
While i dont agree with the booing of blake, there is something to be said for loyalty to the islanders. We gave him a shot in this league when he was a nobody. He was an islander for a long time and then he left for more money. I think we were offering 3 yrs and 9M and toronto offered 5 yrs and 20M. I think you would lying if you said you would take 11M less to stay here. I would move to Iran for 11M.
Sorry Doc, I meant to say I agree with you. The posters you are talking about would be dragged in court for libel making those statements. Sorry if you thought I was barking at you, it took me thirty seconds to find a real, hours old quote.
The idea of booing a UFA because he signed somewhere else is sad, except perhaps Jason Blake, who said how happy he was when he was still an Islander after the trade deadline (and was the game’s first star that night), then signing for an obscene amount of money with the Leafs. As Terry said (136) I wish my toughest decision would be for the number after the six zeros.
i’ll defend my right to boo a player who we welcomed with open arms, hailed him as our savior, and then gave us no respect when it came to resigning.
in hindsight, it was probably better that the didn’t-but he did not leave under the most gracious of terms.
he said we treated him w/ the utmost respect so he could have done the same when it came to the free agency process.
and since when is booing uncalled for, as 146 points out-the fans booed blake who actually wanted to come back!(and a boo i totally disagreed w/)
no need for moral superiority here
nyislanders, where did he say that because I never heard that and I doubt it’s true.
Booing these players makes us fans look like idiots. I’ve never heard Smyth badmouth the Islanders (in fact he said they made him feel very welcome) and he tried his best while he was here I’ll even go one further and mention Blake. So he had a touch of greed and left, how’s that worked out for him? Meanwhile, he played hard while he was with this team. IMO it’s better to keep our maouths shut and let these guys enjoy what good memories they have of their time with the Isles instead of reminding them how rude and immature the fans can be and making them feel glad they left. And we wonder about some of the reasons FA’s hesitate to come here.
(sorry if off topic, touchy subject for me but feel free to delete CB)
We want CHRIS
We want CHRIS
We want CHRIS
What did we actually give up for Smyth??? A 1st ok would like that back, but Nilsson & O’Marra are garbage!!!! I’ve seen a lot worse deadline deals then that one. Can’t blame the guy for going for it all. If DP doesn’t get hurt who knows what happens??? Let that move go already it wasn’t even that bad a deal.
nyislanders93: What I’m saying is that you are CLASSLESS AND IDIOTIC!
And really what did we give up. O’mara, Nilsson and a 1st rounder for a chance to go deep into the playoffs. Unfortunately DiPietro got hurt.
Edmonton only did to “US” what we are hoping the Islanders can do to the Capitals, Devils, Flyers or Rangers with the Guerin deal… NO?
DOC
whoa, guess I should’ve hit refresh before I started writing. Guess I just repeated what some of you said….
nyislanders93, eye on the island, please PLEASE dont make tonight an embarrassment. Its going to be bad enough tonight on national TV with a big snowstorm certainly affecting attendance since so much of the Island is snowed in, schools closed, etc. PLEASE dont make Islanders fans look like a bunch of morons booing a man who has been nothing but respectful to this organization. GOD.
This has taken so long that if the “original” deal has for some reason fallen through, the team would have to deal Guerin anyway for fear or public humiliation. If that happens, I would think he ends up getting traded at a discounted price. This should be interesting.
it’s been 12 hours w/o an update! i need my fix!!!
No worries Bri. I figured as much.
DOC
I would move to Iran for 11 million, LMFAO!!!!! Very funny pritchett
I was thinking. I think guerin is worth more than a #2 and prospect as schneider was traded for a #2 and #3. Atlanta will give a conditonal pick back to montreal eithjer a 3 or 5. I think guerin maybe get 2 picks plus a prospect. Maybe a #2, 5 and a prospect?
We aren’t suppose to boo an opposing player who took less money to play elsewhere after we gave up three first round picks for him because he didn’t piss on center ice and give us the bird as his u-haul left? What do we owe Ryan Smyth for two months of not bad mouthing our organization? Screw him. Let him hear it
Last time I checked Snow can’t force the other GM to make the trade. A deal was most likely in place so snow pulled BG. The other gm gets cold feet and vacks out or wants to change the deal. How is this Snow’s fault. Yet some of you just want to bash like 12 yr olds.
303Joe, not for nothing but I think everyone here knows how to find TSN lol.
3 first rd picks. It was actually 1 first rd pick. Nilsson & O’Marra should have never been drafted in the first rd.
chris tmc,
r u serious? do you think people now think the rangers fans are subpar after they booed renney on an actual nationally televised game a few weeks back
i dont remember exactly how the whole situation went down 3 years back but Smyth showed us no deference, which is the least he could have done, and i remember feeling spurned by the whole process
a boo is not classless in any sense of the word, its a way to show displeasure for something
everyone has to understand this isnt disneyland, its sports, filled w/ heroes and villains and all the like
where is the outrage for booing blake-someone who gave us everything he had while he was here and made a financial decision that was not even comparable
smyth turned down more money from us and it felt like he never seriously entertained playing for us- a slap in the face to the islanders
Dear Mr. Smyth,
If you could find it in your heart, and if you have a few minutes tonight, please personally apologize to “eye on the island” for not re-signing with the Islanders.
Sincerely,
The rest of us here on PB who actually get it
updated 11:55 am. I understand as this drags on, nerves are becoming raw. I ask that you please keep it civil. If not, I’ll be on the laptop at the Coliseum all day. With no news coming, I’ve got plenty of time to give game misconducts. Thanks…CB
168 Terry: The Islander DID NOT “give up 3 first round picks for him” and saying they did is delusioanl. They gave up 2 disappointing prospects and ONE pick. It is completely different, you cant pretend that Nilssona dn OMarra were draft picks because they werent- they were prospects. Jeez I cant b elieve how many years have gone by and people still state this fallacy as if it was true.
You ask what we owe Ryan Smyth? You can make the case that we owe him nothing… no boos, no cheers, nothing. If you think that we owe him nothing, then he owed us nothing, too- and if that is the case, then DO NOTHING! But if youre going to do SOMETHING, why in the frickin WORLD will it be to embarrass this organization and make Islanders fans look like a bunch of ignorant, drooling fools???
I don’t really think that article indicates that it’s a mess. Unfortunate? YES! But not due to any fault of the Islanders. That article clearly states that Guerin and the Islanders have not done anything to impede the progress of the trade, have continued to maintain integrity by not disclosing the “mystery” team and are just awaiting the other team to sign off.
The Islanders and Guerin have clearly acted professionally and with integrity.
DOC
Heck ya ya boo!! What did Smyth ever do for us. Cried when he was traded! Could of signed with us but wanted no part of LI after we the fans showed him respect and he could of been a Islander Great! He took less money to get the “point blank” out of Uniondale. So yes indeed you boo him all night!
This is starting to sound like another total screw-up from Isle mgmt. Obviously whatever was in place Sat. night fell apart and now with the coaches comments and lack of movement, the Isles are in a position where they can’t take Guerin . Garth now is in a weak position and I guarantee a deal will get done, for a bag of pucks!!
marc from troy
its not about resigning w/ us, its about respect and deference. can we all please understand that
im actually happy he did not sign-it was overpaying for a player over 30
he left a bitter taste in my mouth, if you feel different by allmeans cheer the man tonight.
i dont see why there is all this hostility towards the fact that some of us fans feel that smyth disrespected the organization
172 eye on the island: I think its all pretty silly. I dont justify booking Blake either. But at least he had history here, what the heck is Ryan?
And frankly I really dont care what the Rangers fans do.
Lay down the law CB, start throwing people out haha….The 500 people that show up tonight should boo Smyth…right on Brian in VA!!
Bob McKenzie will be on NHL live at 12:20.
Mark herman is lame
Doc- You can say I’m classless and idiotic but you aren’t making any sense. Every fanbase in the NHL boos their former players that leave during free agency. EVERY SINGLE TEAM. So what point are you trying to make? Players know they’re going to get booed when they come back to play against their former team.
178 eye on the island: Making us all look so petty and foolish is much more disrespectful than anything Ryan Smyth ever did. But you will do whatever you want, and hypocritically get mad when someone else does what is best for them and their family. Whatever, boo away, just realize that in doing so you are unfortunately going to be an ambarrassment to most Islanders fans and to this organization.
Don’t forget the one positive that came out of the Smyth fiasco…. we got rid of Yashin.
Agreed Doc (175).
if they dont cancel the game tonight i figure 1500 people show up tonight.
What a mess this is turning into.
EYE on the Island: Boo if you want to. But the question that was asked by “islanders93″ was…
and I quote:
Anyone interested in a few a$$hole chants directed at Ryan Smyth?
And you responded with the following quote:
“@106, im contemplating going tonight to do just that”… “anyone else have the same thoughts?”
So you are willing to pay good money, drive to a game in horrible weather conditions (not to see the team you root for) but, just so you can shout obscenities at Ryan Smyth because he didn’t honor you by signing with the Islanders? Give me a break!
Case closed… go ahead and show how classless you are.
DOC
Smyth fiasco? Seriously guys, the Isles were red hot when the acquried him and could have ended up playing a cruddy Atlanta team. We missed that spot by 2 points.
Remember, DP got hurt and Dunham couldn’t stop a beach ball.
They didn’t give up a quality player in that deal so give the Smyth trade bashing a rest. Garth Snow went for it in a year where a lot of poeple thought the Isles could have done a little damage.
Hey CB….why did you leave out the most important part of the article??
“Guerin and Islanders’ general manager Garth Snow are continuing to wait for New York’s trading partner to sign off on the deal.”
NOT THE ISLANDERS’ FAULT!!!!
alright i got it, booing is now on the same par as assaulting an opposing player and throwing things onto the ice to disrupt play
i thought we were all new yorker’s here, home of the a$$hole chant and other such fine classy chants-such as references to domestics disputes all other aspects of player’s personal lives
and now all of a sudden a simple boo is going to embarrass the organization
at this point, im agreeing to disagree
Vukota, say the other GM gets cold feet. Wouldn’t you agree that a good GM would threaten to pull the deal off the table so he can explore other options? Letting it linger for so long is embarrassing. It’s time wasted that Snow could have possibly gone a different direction. Instead he faces the potential of being left with nothing or forcing a trade at a discount to avoid the major PR blunder of letting not only the fans but Guerin swing in the wind for so long.
ok ps-last point, i should have clarified boo, thanks tmc
Isles fans have been blessed that Smyth and Blake moved on.
Once Smyth signed with the Avs who wasn’t glad that we didn’t commit that type of money and years to a guy who os not a sniper?
Good player but I thought at first “No way does he stay healthy for that entire contract”. I didn’t think he would hold up. Hopefully he does.
That contract would only help the Isles get to the cap floor.
The Blake deal?
Loved Jason but that deal was surprising to most in the NHL.
There is no loyalty in business.
If the team could bail on a player not performing they would.
So if a player stands to make considerably more from another team who can fault them.
It’s not like Blake left for a few bucks.
Smyth “wanted to be closer to home”.
The guy wasn’t an Islander and at that stage in his career did not want to stick around for a rebuild that would take years.
Two good guys who wouldn’t have given us a Cup in their years that would have been if they signed with us.
Turn the page.
The entire reason that Versus picked this game last year for a national broadcast this year was to spotlight the sad disappointed Islanders fans in their half empty arena and laugh at us for booing that we dont have Ryam Smyth on this team. And you kids are falling right into it. You could genuinely surprise Versus and the entire NHL by being gracious and happy, but you just dont see that. You could make a fantastic statement about Islanders fans tonight, but you just dont want to.
The articles are already written citing your booing and laughing at all of us for it. And you are the ones that are going to allow them to publish them! If you do this, you will see tomorrow that I am right.
Who cares about Ryan Smyth?? Be happy he’s not here! Guarantee if we gave him 6 mil per year and he had his total of 21 goals for the Isles this year, you would all be going to the NVMC and chanting at him for a whole different reason!!
Thanks CB!
who the hell cares enough about ryan smyth to boo him? more classless Long Island BS. U booers are probably the same people who threw garbage on the ice during the Buffalo series a couple of years ago.
Bob McKenzie is talking about it now on NHL Live.
Garth get this deal done unless you are waiting for another offer. CB well done!
BoB McKenzie says Guerin may be going to Washington and the hold up is they need to clear cap space to add him.
not sure what’s being said TO guerin, but let’s not forget the HUMAN in him must not be enjoying this. This DOES come with the territory of being a professional athlete in an internet world, still must suck.
i hope this ends soon, for everyone’s sake. heck, it’s not like it’s gretz on the move, i doubt the return can be anything of value given all the speculation and drama on this topic (i’m comment #199) wow
Guerin was just seen driving a snow plow on The Meadowbrook Pkwy to make a few extra dollars and in the process, clear the way to Washington!!
garth is waiting on this gm because guerin approved this deal. I think the only reason Garth is being this patient is because of Guerin’s NTC.
197 has it right about Smyth. Fact is he hasn’t been near the player he was earlier in his career, so it is kind of ridiculous to be upset that he didn’t sign here.
I don’t think he deserves to be booed, nor does he deserve cheers. He came, played his ass off (hurt), and left. He isn’t responsible for what we gave up for him. If he really wanted to slight the Islanders, he could’ve easily sat out injured. I would treat him like any other opposing player.
And that is all I am going to say on the topic.
even though chatting about Smyth is off topic, if i make it to the game tonight, i for one will not boo ryan smyth. islanders fans should avoid doing this. I agree with chris tmc.
CB, could the hold up be the Islanders are trying to include you in the trade because you are giving fans real information unlike their website?? You gotta be worth a few cups of coffee or bags of pucks!!
Chris TMC-
Who in the blank watches Vs. anyway? Nationally televised do you actually think that people are going to tune it to this game when both teams are the dregs of this season in the NHL! Like I said before I am a big Isles fan who has grown in-different to this team lately cuz of the organization’s inability to function rationally. I follow the team execlusively here and when they play @ Washington twice. I will be watching Big East basketball! Go SHU Pirates eventhough they are not very good either but are more fun than this AHL team.
i think CB is holding up this deal. CB is reaping the biggest benefit from this fiasco
CB - as the former PR guy, would it be so bad for the Isles to issue a statement saying that Guerin is an asset, we have to protect this assest, we will have a resolution either prior to or after wednesdays’ deadline.
is that so hard?
do i feel bad for guerin? no. I love billy but how many teams were offering him a two year deal at 4.5 per with a nmc? I would say probaly none. Now what the Leafs did to Sundin last yeat, that was disgraceful.
And everyone can look at the deal as a wash…O’Marra still isnt worth it and Nilsson has been a healthy scratch. The only thing we still dont know is about the kid Plante they drafted who is a stay home dman which the isles need. Only time can tell
I enjoy the posts of guys joking around about this and making light of it, but you guys that are stll trying to figure out the exact terms of the deal, or exactly what is holding up the deal, need to just chill out and read some more of the light-hearted posts… You aren’t figuring out anything until the isles want to give you the info!!
Question : Has so much bad blood between Bill and the Isles transpired in the last 72 hours that they can’t simply say “deal fell apart and we are keeping Billy G around for the rest of the season” like they were going to a few days/weeks ago?
I mean there is no secret. He has a NTC, the Isles are a last place team rebuilding and pending his approval was going to get dealt to a contender for an asset. It didn’t work out, so if in fact there is no trade, why can’t he suit up and carry on like it seemed like was going to happen anyway a few weeks ago.
@209,
Vs is going to experience some low ratings, tonight. I hate watching hockey on VS, their coverage is brutal.
Go Mason Patriots!
Jimmy (207): I am glad you will be there and not behaving that way- thank you for that!
Brian (209): the fact that neither team is doing well is all the more reason that they will write about silly extraneous thing like I said. As far as the reason they picked this game, I know I am right on that one- what other reason did they have to televise this game?
Atari8bit (214): Where are you getting that “the deal fell apart” or that “it didn’t work out”? Youre saying these things like they are facts but the best source I know of (CB) has said no such thing- nor has anywhere else as far as I have seen.
Lost in all this was Danis’ shutout, ‘Way To Go’!!
updated with a re-visit of my True Value on Guerin that may or may not shed some light…CB
How about maybe snow has 2 offers on the table and guerin is deciding if he will accept both or just one team. Maybe thats what this is all about?
Joe Bennenati is a good announcer! He should replace Howie after Howie goes to Manhattan. Joe B. is the main play by player for the Caps! I think he may be an Isles fan too! I too like Mason in the CAA!
CB- Do you think Guerin will 100% be traded and its just formalities being worked out.
Also should we still believe the deal from a day or 2 ago is still the same deal?
Or is it possible it went bad and now snow has another deal or is looking for another deal?
CB, thanks for all the great updates the last few days. I appreciate all your hard work, and I’m happy other sites have started to give you proper recognition.
Having said that, should Bill Guerin continue to be the focus of conversation during the next two days? It’s likely that nothing will happen for 48 hours, and this is really a minor trade (2nd rounder at best). What is your take on the story in Sunday’s newsday? Who do you think was his confidential source? Should the Isles boo Smyth tonight? I’m really hoping we can start moving on from the Guerin non-story.
Prucha for Guerin would not be bad! Its not like Billy G. is going to help that dysfunction make the playoffs. Although we are the king of dysfunction! The Islanders, Where AHL’ers play for real!
This is becoming quite the saga, but it will all be over one way or another come Wednesday. A better question is how many people will actually make it out to the game tonight? Probably not that many with the bad weather and all, but I intend to try and make it. We’ll see if the traffic allows that.
Asked about the Bill Guerin to Washington rumors Boudreau said: “We have Kozlov, Semin, Fehr, Bradley and Gordon as our right side. I think that’s pretty good.”
I would have rather had a local telecast tonight but I guess Billy Jaffe will do the color or be a sideline reporter.
Chris, can you explain why the other end of this deal has managed to not make a circus out of this? I don’t see any evidence of any of the other rumored partners handleing their end in such a low class manner. If the deals go nowhere could we really expect Billy to go back as if nothing happened after all the dirty laundry has been aired in public?
By the way, Joe Bennenati is one of the worst play-by-play guys in the sport. He constantly dumbs down the game for the audience and use trite, awkward expressions to explain simple concepts. I will be watching the game on mute tonight.
The Suspense is Grrreat!
Let’s Go Islanders !!
Maybe we are getting back SMYTH!! LoL!
This doesnt make the Isles look good. At this point knowing that Guerin has played his last game as an Islander, lets just get whatever we can now. The longer this lasts the worse this looks
i officially have islanders fever. i just got more blood flow from that ad with the 91 tavares jersey than i did at the photo of the ice girl. i need to log off for a bit i think. cant wait to see guerin on the 4th line tonight with no C on his jersey.
Vs. chose tonights game because it’s the only game in the NHL today.
Derrick Morris of Phoenix is in the same boat, not dressing until something happens but there hasn’t be the soap opera with him as there is with Guerin.
Look at this riff between Scott and Billy. And we wonder why we cant get any players to come here. Wang/Gordon/Snow you guys are big time jokers and are voted off the island!
JACK: The reason why the “OTHER END” has not made a “CIRCUS” of this is because that would mean the other team MUST revealed itself as the “other team” - actually making it more of a circus.
Besides, the Islanders have NOT made this a circus… the fans have. The Islanders have done nothing except hold an asset out of a game in order to protect his value because they “had/have” a deal in place. The other team has held the deal up. So in effect “THE OTHER TEAM” has made a circus of it. The Islanders have handled an awkward situation with class.
DOC
CB this is crazy. This blog has gotten over 1,700 posts since this story broke. In addition pointblank has been mentioned in conjunction with this story on tsn and a few other major websites. Pointblank is blowing up and i am honored to say I have been around since pointblank 1.0
On the Bill Guerin front we will end up with a second and B level prospect, i just cant imagine what is holding this whole thing up. I just want to know already.
i think Botta pulled Guerin off the ice, and he duped everyone!!!
Doc, I feel the NY Media has been a major contributor to the “circus like” atmosphere. Why so many stories/angles about something that hasn’t happened yet. Give it a rest until something happens.
They should have kept him in or claimed an injury. Very simple. This is a 2 way street and the Isles revealed themselves first as usual. You have no idea who has held the deal up, it could have been Snow trying to create a bidding war as some in the media have suggested. The fans didn’t put all those words in Gordons mouth yesterday did they?
Again, the problem lies with the decision by Islanders management to hold Guerin out of the Buffalo game, thereby creating an expectation of a trade. Yes, let’s see how it plays out over the next couple of days. But as has been the recent trend for this organization, I’m betting it’s just all a lot of hot air, and Isles management has once again been exposed for being inept…
Wow. Over 2 million. Congrats CB. Glad to be a part of it!
what circus? the only circus is on this message board
updated with 2 media notes…CB
Guerin, Witt to NJ for Paul Martin and #2 pick.
2 million hits WOW your gonna be rich haha,it’s a credit to all the hard work you put into this site and your ongoing effort to keep Islander fans informed KUDO’S TO YOU CB
241 Guerin himself has come out and said there is a trade. Stop hating on the isles all the time, I know they are an easy target but this is not their fault. If they had played him and had gotten hurt and you found out they had a deal in place after the game you would be upset at the islanders for playing him. So it is a lose lose. This Isles are doing everything right here.
Witt could win a Cup with the Devils.
CB - Sorry if this was asked and answered, i usually keep up with al posts before asking, but the volume is crazy (congrats)…
Any thoughts on what would happen if the whole deal falls apart? Especially since the Go Go vs. Vets thing is totally out of the bag. If the deal is dead, can Billy G. actually dress as an Islander any more?
I know he is a class act and probably wouldn’t think twice, but I believe Go Go and company might feel differently.
Funny how the Isles management is “inept” but the same exact thing is going on in Phoenix and noone is talking about it. The fans aren’t mad and the media is patiently waiting for the news to come out. Are we seriously this stupid in NY? No wonder why the rest of the country hates us. Doc, you’re right on and it’s refreshing to read posts from people who aren’t looking for any reason they can find to hate their own team.
Good Work CB…
I bet by 3pm this whole thing is done.
Too much whining on here since this whole Billy Guerin Trade Watch has started.
I kinda hope it’s over soon… so we can go back to our quiet little blog.
Sure we have whiners… but this is ridiculous.
I just don’t understand the anger…lol.
I looking forward to seeing Joensuu
I like that they caled up JJ. Should mean that this’ll be done by gametime. Out with the old, in with the new…
thanks for the jj tip cb
looking forward to seeing him tonight
congrats on the hits!!! your site gives us a ton of info, and it should only grow!
Can’t wait to see JJ perform tonight! never seen him play before, so this should be educational
congrats jesse
looking forward to watching him tonight. he’s going to have a hell of a time driving to uniondale from b’port in this storm.
2 million botta, good for you….imagine there actually WAS a trade (or three). actually no trade has put you squarely on the map. good for you. now all the national media will come to you for info when we move to canada or KC…..
The fact that they are keeping Guerin out again tonight proves that this deal must still be on. If it was dead they would be dressing him tonight. And congrats CB on the hits.
Nice about Jessie. It’ll be good to catch one of the realistic NHL prospects we have.
FANTASTIC news on JJ playing tonight. I thought he might get a look at the end of this year and well deserved he is playing great hockey for BP. I’d like to see him on the Bailey line.
On the Guerin thing. I am confused. Is it the other team needs to free up cap space? Someone is getting an extension? Did they back out? I don’t think Snow would have taken it to the point he did in scratching BG unless an agreement was in place for compensation pending cap issues or something being worked out. I’m hoping the Isles clean house before the deadline.
247 You are correct but unfortunately it will fall on deaf ears. Some of our fans aren’t happy unless they have something to complain about. When there are legitimate things to complain about they’re happier than a pig in s**t and when there isn’t anything they do their best to create a problem. There is absolutely nothing wrong going on here and this whole thing got blown way out of proportion and is becoming quite comical. The organization may be a joke but some of the fans are the punchline.
Really looking foward to Joensuu’s debut tonight. As for Guerin I feel some sort of deal will be made by wednsday
Joensuu! He did impress me in bridgeport. His effort and competition level especially.
Might as well give the big Fin a taste of the NHL. No one has been hotter in the AHL. Excited to see how he looks
263, i agree that some of the so-called fans do a great job of putting the negative reputation over the top. if they actually LIKE the team, then they should STFU
Congrats on the hits! With over 2,000,000 I think it’s safe to say that this blog is THE #1 source for Islanders news.
eye (178)… So you say “its not about resigning w/ us, its about respect and deference. can we all please understand that”. Sure. I’d love to. Help me understand. Just what the hell did Smyth do that disrespected ANYONE, much less you, in particular? He didn’t lie to anyone - it just came down to NYI and Col, and he picked Col. As he had every right to do. And he could not have been more complimentary to the organization on his way out - just read the damn quotes, already.
So you’re gonna boo him, though, not because he signed elsewhere, but because he “left a bitter taste” in your mouth. What more did he owe you - or anyone else for that matter? If you’re not upset that he signed elsewhere, then what the hell is the problem?
And, as long as I’m riled up now, two questions for Jack (228)… 1. What, exactly, have the Isles done here that was “low class”? 2. Could you provide examples of the “dirty laundry” that you say has been aired? Would really love to see what you come up with, because, until then, it seems like you’re just imagining things.
Is it true that Callahan was placed on waivers as well?
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2009/03/02/avery_waivers/
At the bottom of the article.
Awesome too see Joensuu get the call…nice to see a BIG talented young kid
Congrats Jesse on the call up!!!!!
JJ has been the best player on Bport over the last 6 or 7 games. He seems to have acclimated himself to the NA game style. He creates space for his teammates very well and makes very nice tape to tapers while drawing the D.
His shot is average at this point but he it will get better hopefully. Also he is very good at coming back and playing Defense.
CB any word if they do anything for the people who have tickets but cant make it because of the weather?
Jack:
Your suggestion makes no sense???
IF the Islanders played Guerin OR as you suggest they “claimed” and injury… then how exactly is it that Guerin has any value as an “injured” player. That my friend would creat a true circus.
Faking an injury… I’m sure that would go over real well with the other GM’s around the league and with Bettman.
Jeez… you can’t make this stuff up.
DOC
How much snow did LI get? I live in northern CT and got about 5 inches.
Really the longer this goes the much better it gets for the Isles or the much worse? Either the price is going up because of a bidding war, or teams are now fed up and sniffing around in other places. I watched Hockeycentral today on Sportnet Ontario, and Nick Kipereos, he believes Guerin is worth what Scheinder was worth a second and third round draft pick. I think there is a good possiblity that a third party might be involved as a way of one team to shed salary and do the deal. They also said on the show Washington is looking for a rugged stay at home defenseman (witt anyone) and that Wieght was still being looked into by other teams still. Guerin, Weight, Martinek, Witt, McCammond, and maybe one of the goalies….could be a very exciting Wednesday, a true holiday in Canada to be sure; 12 hours of coverage.
huh, Michael that wouldn’t make any sense for Callahan to be put on waivers. He is playing well and the Isles have no replacement.
Also, if they don’t need him to clear waivers do send him down right? He has been called up a couple times.
I live in western NY and we got none!!! How often can we say that downstate got less snow than us!!??
Lou Z (274), I have two tickets to the game tonight and I am not sure if I am going for obvious reasons. I called the customer service office and they told me that there are no refunds or exchanges but to call back tomorrow if I don’t go tonight. I know the team has had vouchers in the past due to bad weather and they have been pretty fair in these situations so my best suggestion is to wait it out for a couple more hours and maybe give them a call.
this is the kirk muller fiasco all over agian
Any possibility we’ll see Rhett Rakshani sometime this year? Not like we have anything to play for this year and if we’re going to have roster spots from trades…I’d like to see what he can do and what kind of chemistry he and KO can put together in the pros, think they were linemates on last years WJC team.
You downstaters are wimps when it comes to snow! If its less than a foot of snow, all schools are open and it takes a state of emergency to keep the rest of the people home. Brave it and go to the game and support the kids!
good for you …..hay seed
Callahan on waivers makes no sense??? I thought he’s been playing good, hard nosed hockey.
DOC
The most infuriating part of the Smyth trade was not that we lost all those 1st round picks but that Robert Nilsson was even on the team. Zach Parise is a stud and we passed on him to draft another soft prospect who will never amount to anything. Parise is the kind of player you can set as part of a foundation. Every time I see the name Nilsson I get all worked up! Smyth is a good hockey player and a class act, boo him at your own risk of looking foolish.
Chris “Big Time” Botta - dont go all hollywood on us CB. remember the little people along the way..lol
But unlike upstate when it snows here people don’t know how to drive in it and it causes a huge mess.
Especially trying to get out to Long Island from Manhattan its impossible during rush hour and put bad weather on that forget it!!
Quick question about Joensuu CB. Was he on that top 100 prospects list for the hockey news? Or since he has played in the AHL he doesn’t qualify?
Wow! At least something eciting came out from this debacle. I’ll be looking forward to the game tonightfor more than reason then. Let’s kick Smyth’s butt (not too bad though, he was a trooper after all).
(280) What does that even mean? How is anything going on even the slighest bit like what happened with Kirk Muller sixteen flippin years ago? At all??? Do you people who keep saying this stuff just have phrases that you paste in and leave as comments on blogs or what?
Looking forward to seeing Jesse out their. He will add some much needed size to our forwards whether it be now or the future. Either way, looking forward to seeing the guerin situ. end sometime today and seeing jesse later.
I’m no hayseed cmimbri. I was born in smithtown. Just live up here now. But just another typical downstate attitude about upstate. I would NEVER live downstate again, bunch of J/O’s who think they are special cause they live near NYC.
Honestly, what’s all the fuss about? So there was some deal close or done, Snow kept Bill out of the lineup as a precaution (given the bazillion man-games lost this year, a reasonable precaution).
Something has happened. Either the original deal is gummed up or there are multiple deals being negotiated (i.e., hopefully a bidding war).
Regardless, all will be apparent by Wed., as we have a hard stop called the trade deadline.
Until then, what’s the big deal if it lingers and Bill has to sit out waiting? I don’t get some of the sky is falling mentality…
ill explain what it means … kirk muller was traded here and didnt want to report he took time for him self etc…. now bg is traded lets say for a pick and a salary coming back…maybe just maybe whats holding the deal up is the player coming back doesnt want to report
man, that was don maloney’s fault for trying to trade pierre turgeon for a washed up has been in the first place. that’s not what’s gonna happen here.
Too much snow, Idle time, stir crazy kids is it possible that the Rags are waiting to get Avery off waivers before they do the Guerin deal?? Why Callahan on waivers?? could sportsnet be wrong?? Any one wanna shovel me out:)
This is all guesses and speculation. Guerin will get traded, just wait for it. Now, will Snow get what he should for him, well that’s another story.
That fits with Callahan being waived/sent down today:
Also going on waivers Monday were: Tom Preissing (L.A.); Joe Callahan (NYI); Lawrence Nycholat (Vancouver); Steven Goertzen (Phoenix) and Bill Thomas (Pittsburgh).
And, why do the Islanders need him anymore?
marc from troy, this has to be my last post on this topic as its obvious neither of us are not going to change eachothers minds
i dont remember how the wholething went down, afterall it was 3 years ago, but i felt as if he did not give the islanders their proper due come free agency time when we brought him here and tried to accommodate him in every way possible. now maybe im wrong, and he did give us a fair shake(cb can clarify this) but as i recall he basically stiffed us after we layed down for him. thats where my dissatisfaction stems from.
enough with this, boo or don’t, its an individual choice
This is most definitely not Kirk Muller all over again. There it was Muller who forced our hand by being a poisonous locker room presence; yes Guerin apparently was disgruntled (does this sound like Islander pravda for sour grapes?) too but being there was a deal in place, the holdup is on THAT team and it has nothing to do with us or Guerin anymore. Having been dragged out to now, would the supposed “other” team in this be just holding out until the deadline so that they avoid looking bad upon inevitable identification and get lost in the shuffle of what will surely be a plethora of deals? It’s just a matter of waiting a few more days for Guerin…
(296) LOL!!!!!! I know who Kirk Muller is. But all of that “lets say this, lets say that, maybe just maybe” - every bit of it- is made up by you. There is not one credible source anywhere that has even hinted that any such thing is taking place. This is purely your imagination at work and the literal fabrication of drama.
hey chris did you mean 294? because i agree with you man. i just dont think anyone in this organization would be stupid enough to repeat such a blunder. but guerin is also not turgeon!
The capitals having 50 players does makes sense but only if the Isles weren’t getting an AHL prospect back. Could be the issue.
They must be gettig D man back in the deal. Unless Myer or Pock is back.
247, 262 - You guys really don’t know much either. I’m not saying I know everything, or that I am some Hockey expert. I’m simply stating the obvious. You don’t hold a player out until there is a trade. Period. Think about what you’re suggesting - perhaps we should have held Guerin out for the past 2 weeks since a trade was “imminent.” It’s illogical. You hold a player out once a trade is confirmed.
As for the rebuild - I’m all in support of that. I’m not complaining in the least bit. But as a fan, of course I’m worried about the rebuild, because the rebuild requires good drafting. And even for the best drafting teams, any single draft can be a crapshoot. If you claim you are not worried about these things, I suggest either a) you are being disingenuous, or b) have blind faith in the team. Let’s see where this all plays out by the deadline in two days. Guerin may be traded, or he may not be. But either way, you don’t hold one of your uninjured regulars out unless you have the trade in place, ready to go, and clearly the Islanders did not.
Ha- yes, battery- you are right, and I agree with you, too! I also agree that BillyG is not Turgeon!
CBotts, why was Callahan sent down?
stopthepain 306, Do you read articles or do you just assume? In every article written about this situation and even a headline on TSN it clearly stated that the deal is in place and the Islanders are waiting for the other team to finalize everything.
How do you know the Isles didin’t have the deal ready to go? How do you know the other team didn’t have second thoughts after intially agreeing, thus pulling Guerin off the ice?? The truth is you have no idea what happend like the rest of us. Why not wait for the whole story before coming with your own conclusion?
@stopthepain
Again, looking to nitpit and WRONG
Bill Guerin had a NTC, there was a possibility of a trade in place; Billy was pulled from the lineup and told of the situation; Sunday morning the news on CB is “he is very happy”
Now the details of the trade have not come out, but the holdup is apparently on the other end.
If there is a possibility of a trade in place for my No Trade Clause captain your damn right i pull him and talk it over with him
100% of the Gm’s do this
Stopthepain:
You DO hold a player out if a deal is in place… and clearly a deal WAS/STILL IS in place. Guerin said so… Gordon said so… and by all accounts there was a deal in place.
Garth Snow held Guerin out because a deal was/is in place. He can’t say it… but his actions confirm it.
I don’t know why this is so difficult to understand. lol
DOC
What about taking Briere off of Philly’s hands? They need cap space and the Islanders need scoring… To say the least!
but doc they’re just all lying, didn’t you forget their favorite team is a big joke?? well i figure with all that whining it must be a disgruntled rangers fan anyway……..
New post. Something I don’t get. We’re going on more than 2,000 Comments since Saturday night. If just one reader writes something you don’t like, why do some others feel the need to tell them they have no idea what they’re talking about? Why not just let them have their opinion?
Now if I write something you think is moronic, bring it. But I don’t get singling out a dissenting opinion, and then 8 readers telling 1 how wrong they are. Okay, I’m done…CB
No kidding Stopthepain
No, I read plenty of articles about the Islanders all the time. But reading any article with blind quotes is the equivalent of assuming.
I fully admit I have no idea what the situation is, and as I said my previous post, I agree with you, let’s wait to see how this plays out by the deadline.
But all of you are assuming the deal is “in place.” Waiting for the other team to take care of an issue to complete the deal automatically means the deal is not in place, and no, most GM’s don’t do hold players out when there isn’t a trade in place ready to go (and clearly, since Guerin wasn’t traded there wasn’t one “ready to go”). You play your regulars when you can. Ya’ll are the ones making the assumptions at this point.
I guess there is a certain segment of the fan base for which the team can do no wrong. The point of a discussion board is to discuss moves. There is nothing nitpicky about what I’m writing. Like I said - I agree with you guys, let’s see how it plays out.
CB - in your experience, do you believe it is common for situations like this to occur around the NHL?
Fair enough pain, it just sounded like you were knocking the Isles for this situation and I don’t think its fair to do so.
The reason for this Chris is because there is something called looking at things logically and objectively, and then speculating merely for the sake of opening up a can of worms, would in itself be okay if we didnt have negative nancies who actually spread these worms around like they are facts and not speculative figments , illogical speculative figments at that.
You feed a paranoid hockey base paranoid news and you will destroy what little psyche they have left.
I am saying, quite simply, to let logic and reason be the guidance for most of these posters, and TIME, rather than have them running around like chicken litte.
That sir is the point of my correction; to provide fresh air logic in a room thats getting stagnated with sulfurous rich pyroclastic flows, analogically speaking.
Excellent and tireless work as always, Chris. Poor Bill Guerin. I wouldn’t blame him if he pulled the pin on this and any deals.
I don’t like the reported rifts with the veterans. There is something about Gordon that I can’t quite trust.
Out until gametime; enjoy the fireworks.
If the original deal with Wash or whomever did fall apart could the Isles pick up Avery off of waivers and turn around and trade him and Guerin to the Rags???
I just read that Callahan was waived?
Whats with Joe Callahan being wavied Chris? Is someone coming off the IR?
Logan says Callahan was put on waivers so he’d be eligible to play in the AHL playoffs.
Right on, CB. That’s what took down Logan’s comment section. No digs on Greg’s blog, I love his live sessions, but the commentary became so derisive between fans of the same team (and a few trolls to boot) that it became unreadable. I know there’s more than a few transplants from that blog, and I think we all agree opinions are like poop chutes, everybody’s got ‘em, and everyone thinks only theirs smells like roses. And that’s my poop chute opinion.
DP that would be fine if you knew for sure you are not going to get stuck with a cancer like Avery. He is signed for 3 more years with a NTC
And someone is still posting on Logan’s blog as Steady… sigh.
Makes sense that Joensuu gets a taste. He’s gonna need another year at the Bridge before he gets a spot here. At least he gets an idea of where he needs to go.
I had a feeling Guerin would no be playing in the Buffalo game after he waived his NMC. No problem with it at all.
Wednsday we will have an answer anyways. Still plenty of time and it looks like this has garnered the team some attention and maybe caused some pause for consideration from other teams.
Guerin is probably one of the most respected vets on the block this season.
What’s up with the waiving of Big Joe Callahan CB?
CB, Thanks alot. Callahan is one of the few good hitters on this team, I like having him up.
Can’t blame the isles for Holding Guerin out for 2 games while they finalize the trade. We have been cursed with injuries this year. I can’t help but feel Garth was taking no chances on this one. Imagine what we could get back for a Healthy Sillinger, Sutton, Weight? Its only a couple of games, lets let this trade take the time it needs.
Hey Chris…
Aren’t you going on XM shortly. Do you have any new info to give them…lol.
You have become quite the celebrity lately. I was surprised I didn’t see you on Celebrity Apprentice last night with Rodman and Dice….lol.
Good Luck!!!
Glad to hear that about Joe Callahan, CB- makes perfect sense that they would want to ensure having Big Joe there for the AHL playoffs
And Im looking forward to seeing Jesse Joensuu play tonight!
It is AMAZING that they are able to become a bigger JOKE with EVERY passing day. Guerin should accept a trade to ANY other team just to get away from this JOKE.
If what is said about gordon is true this guy is a BIGGER joke then Bill Stewart was but I guess he fits with this franchise.
Really looking forward to seeing JJ tonight. I am really dissappointed with Comeau and Tambellini so far. Hope that JJ can be part of the future. He has the size and petigree (2nd round pick) to be a top 6 forward, potential that I haven’t seen from Comeau or Tamby yet. How can Tamby have such a great shot and NOT be able to score in the NHL??? I don’t think that Comeau was a big goal scorer in the AHL and we NEED forwards that can put the puck in the net. JJ has done that this year at Bridgeport. As far as Guerin goes, we’ll know by Wed.BE PATIENT!!!! GO ISLES!!
I wonder why the Islanders have not taken a look at Mike Iggulden yet. He has some size and can produce. I am glad to see Jesse Joensuu has been called up
Give Gordon a break, look at what he’s been faced with this whole year, you think anyone else would have the islanders in the playoffs or players saying “Oh I love my coach and I love it here!”. There are young people getting peppered with bullets in Iraq or Afghanistan and we’ve got grown millionaires who play a game for a living whining about how they’ve been disrespected. Tell these f**ks to find a different team.
MAB - Isles are doing everything right here.
how can you know this? maybe they had a verbal deal, then snow changed the terms. i hope that’s not it, but anything could be going on.
jeez,
some people here are acting like the Isles became a “joke” this weekend. oh please, do you know how many times this happens to OTHER teams? there was a deal but Snow wants a bigger fish. Let Guerin sit out. Keep him healthy for the next club.
With latest post, I declare that if Guerin is not traded by 10:00 tonight, I’m blowing this friggin’ thing up…CB
Derek Morris is sitting by the phone in Phoenix waiting to be traded… sent home by the team. I don’t think it is unheard of teams pulling guys out when a trade is in the works… no matter the sport… hockey, baseball, basketball and I’d say football but rarely are their in season trades in the NFL… or the CFL for that matter.
I am typically pro- holding out for the best deal AND if none of deals “make sense” than say no & hold on to Guerin. BUT under the circumstances get rid of Guerin by the deadline for whatever you can. My only hope is the best deal for Guerin maybe off the table. Guerin ain’t that good & Snow has zero leverage IMHO. There’s plenty of Guerins out there, GM may get Bill Guerin elsewhere.
THIS is where having a NHL GM becomes important. You don’t need to be a NHL GM to draft Tavares/Hedman at #1 or #2, but to get True Value for Guerin??? When to know when True Value has been offered and not to let that True Value slip away? That’s where NHL GM’s earn their dollars. That’s where not having an NHL GM hurts the Islanders in IMHO.
Amen to the self - imposed deadline! A million thanks for all the time you put into this blog, CB.
Excited to see what Joensuu brings tonight, new line combos, etc
Dose - By protecting a player that is involved in a possible trade that the player himself admits to is doing the right thing by not putting that player in the lineup. It is very easy to bash the Isles but other teams do this with no backlash. Look at what Phoenix is doing with Morris and they have no deal in place.
Thank Goodness, CB. Now let’s get to the likelihood that my boy, Marty, does or doesn’t get dealt.
Chris….
any more true values coming with the trade deadline nearly here? And any chance the Isles package up Witt and Weight together in a deal.
I think guerin is a class act and its alright what snow is doing. Guerin will be traded soon and we all agree he was a great captain and will help this team by waiving his ntc.
Logan thinks that Gorton and Guerin can act professional and work together until the end of the season if he is not dealt.
But Gorton is on record as saying that he auditioning some interim Captains among some of the kids.
Does Guerin keep the “C” or does he get stripped? This is very distracting for the team, and a lose/lose situation for the team and kids.
Breaking News: Islander Country Held Hostage Day 3: Great title Chris. It needs some of that news network drama music. I could see some network reporter outside the NVMC, “this is Rosilita Margarita Fernandez Gonzalez outside the NVMC bringing you the latest updates on the ongoing hostage crisis now in it’s third day.”
Is it less likely they make trades today (not involving players that are already out) because it is hard to get a replacement with the weather?
It’s cold here in FL 51, bright sunny, bit of a breeze! LOL sorry I had to give ya’ll a dig. Hope the weather doesn’t affect you guys too bad
As per IMania: Habs just called up O’Byrne despite 7 healthy defensemen.
NOT JAFFE:
When did Gordon say that he was auditioning future captains? I think that’s the least of his worries.
As far as I know the only thing he has said is that he is looking forward to see what the “kids” can do with greater responsibilities in game situations.
DOC
#349 Good points! No matter what Guerin HAS to be traded. IF they don’t trade him & it becomes a situation like Jon Sim, THIS one will be far worse. Guerin is the Captain, he think Flash is a putz. It’s not a good situation.
How about Witt and Guerin to Washington for Alzer and their first rounder?
The Caps could be desperate enough and thinks that puts them in position to win now.
CB -nice tease about after the game. Getting like Entertainment Tonite……Britney….coming up
Im looking forward to a few more deals and Joensuu
It was time to move on at some point Sunday afternoon. Guerin is being held out simply so he doesn’t get injured IMO and a deal will happen when it happens. If there was no game Saturday, nobody would have thought anything of this.
I heard alzner is supposed to be a really talented kid….but i dont think you would get both alzner and a first rounder…they defintely could use witt but they are very offensive team and don’t see the logic behind them wanting Guerin
Doc, Logie implied this in his blog yesterday:
The coach went on to say that he expects veterans Richard Park and Trent Hunter to fill the leadership void now, and before the Islanders’ 2-0 win over Buffalo Saturday night, he challenged some of the team’s young players by saying two of them will likely grow into one of the formal leadership positions based on how they play the rest of this season.
Will take your advice CB and move on . I know I posted it before but was wondering what you guys thought about picking up Pascal Leclaire from Columbus and what it would take to get him. I think enetering next year with Leclaire and either Danis or Joey Mac will give the Isles some stability for until/if DP comes back
I’m not really sure why the Islanders are a joke in this situation but hey everyone is entitled to their opinion
I would trade witt and guerin straight up for alzner he was like a top 7 pick or so. Im not sure we could even get him for both those guys.
CB,
Great job on XM. Weight & Guerin combo, huh? Interesting. I’d be curious who has the cap room for something along those lines. I personally see MTL making a move of that nature… but I’m a layman.
Speaking of Columbus… their young stud goalie, Steve Mason, missed I chunk of the OHL playoffs and Memorial Cup due to a knee injury and subsequent surgery. Than at training campy he re-injured the knee and had more surgery missing the start of the year. I have no worries that DP will be back. We don’t need to tie up big money in another keeper.
I would love to trade guerin and weight together. This could possibly get us nice value. Maybe the two of them for higgins, laraque and a pick.
defintely montreal is a sure fire possibility. How bout those two for P.K Subban, he was unbelievable at WJC and plays with alot of intensity on the ice i would take him for weight and guerin
Hang in there, CB.
NOT JAFFE: Thanks… I re-read that post. I think it is in regards to next season. Most likely no change in the “C” the rest of the way this year. Just rotating “A’s” maybe.
Can Callahan be claimed? I’m sure he can be. Is it worth the risk of losing him just so he can play in AHL playoffs.
Maybe this means he doesn’t even stand a chance of being with the club next year.
DOC
C’mon CB….lol.
Where did this little timbit of info come from.
You were holding out for the media.
You are turning into a Media Diva…lol.
I heard you are going to be on Entertainment Tonight.
Guerin and Weight, this thing is getting nutty.
I think your in on the whole thing with the club…. SpinDoctor.
What theme park do we find this rollercoaster ride? Cause it ain’t Adventureland…
CB- Would it still be on the east or would they be willing to maybe go to edmonton where they both played. Maybe we get smid and penner for them?
updated with Weight possibly being included in a Guerin deal…CB
Smart move by any team to pick up the linemates. I said this last month…
A Weight/Guerin deal would have to be a to a team that has a lot of cap space for NYI to exclusively receive picks or prospects.
OR the compensation is a signed player worth ‘x’ amount that NYI actually want.
The combo deal equals about 2 mil of cap space to be absorbed. Just a simple guesstimate.
Moose, I noticed that O’Bryne move too and wonder if it has anything to do with us?
Please God let Dustin Byfuglen and Kevin Bieksa both be Isles by the deadline!
Really appreciate what Billy, Weight and most of the other vets brought but it is the right thing to clean house at this time.
So this is my guess at what the deal might look like:
Guerin + Weight + 2nd Rounder to MTL for Higgins + Hamr
Sunny and 69 degrees in South Florida. Strummer you need to come further south.
Joensuu tonight; a bit of a surprise but a good choice considering he was a second round pick 60th overall and that is most liely what you will get for Guerin straight up. There is value outside of the 1st round; you just need to find it and develop it.
Danis tonight? Can’t see why not.
New captain? You could take a page from the book of the Canucks and make your goalie the captain. DP? He is the leader of the team when healthy. I guess that would be the big giant question mark; his health. I myself would have to throw Streit’s name in the mix. He is leading the team in so many ways and only getting better.
Great work CB; I myself have always read but just started posting again. I see some familiar names from Logan’s blog; I enjoy reading what you all have to say.
If we give both up….we could get back a top 5 prospect considering Montreal is desperate to win this year….maybe andre kositsyn and either subban or max pacriotty?
Things are starting to heat up now on the rumor front this could covet a first rounder for sure and a prospect hmmmm interesting………
Won’t Isles be way under the minimum if they trade both Guerin and Weight? I believe they used Weight’s comp to meet the minimum under the rule that all potential incentive comp be used in calculating the cap hit.
and if weight was to be included all along…his health could have been the question all along
that league source must be snow..lol
well, it was nice having you guys. now let’s see if we can get back anything of worth in return. talk about a “rebuilding” year, sheesh. although i do have to say if bergie finally steps up and turns into the player that he should be, same with josh and kyle, it could be totally worth it.
danis has been a pleasant surprise to say the least, hopefully Snow is smart about this one and decides to keep Danis over McDonald, I know he had a tremendous November but he didn’t have much after that. I am just praying that DP comes back healthy next season and is backed by Danis. I mean, when was the last time DP got back to back shutouts?
the isles NEED to pick up some big FAs this off season, if not we really have another abysmal year to look forward too. I don’t know if I could handle that.
WOW!!! wouldn’t that be something…? IF Weight and Guerin are in a package deal. This whole rebuild could be sped up a bit. I’m not saying that anything great is coming back this way… but it sure would force the Islanders to play more “kids” and make other bold moves.
DOC
If both go to the same team, then NYI are taking back salary.
Most of the teams in the playoff hunt do not have that much space, let alone willing to absorb both of these salaries without sending salary back.
That’s the way it is.
Islanders would prob be picking up a player or 2 with a decent salary to make this work salary cap wise. I agree with 384 no team has 2 plus mill salary cap thats a contender.
Nylander, player X, picks for guerin weight
With Weight in, I’m guessing the deal isn’t with New Jersey. Sutter seemed awfully angry when Dougie hit his kid…
Derek (375): Not worth it as far as Im concerned. At all.
ok lets deductively look at this-if its going to be both players then cap space becomes much more important
going by nhlnumbers.com(which seems to be the best cap site out there-if anyone has any others please post em), the devils, sabres and hurricanes seem the most likely
any other possible trading partner ie, mtl, was, or even the nyr-the islanders would have to take back significant salary(and by that i meant more then 2.5 mil)
should be interesting
maybe if its philly we can get vans riemsdnik or however u spell it
Guerin, Weight and SJ’s first pick to Minnesota for Gaborik. I really think that deal would be accepted by the Wild. As long as we sign Gaborik to an extension obviously.
Guerin and Weight will not go to the Flyers or Canadiens unless equal ammount or more of salary come back, so that means Hartnell at 4.2 + another from Philly or a combination of Hammer at 5.5/Dandy at 1.7/ S Kois at 875
and Guerin is staying on the east coast so it limits them
I can’t help but think that if we are sending that much contract over that there must be some sort of salaried return. What about also getting back an RFA? There are several teams near the cap-lid that have several RFA’s this off season that they have no way of fitting in this economic climate. Maybe we get luckey and some of the salary coming back includes a young player that we have the cap space to sign to an extended contract.
would take all of phill’s dead weight if they can grab van riemsdyk
I can’t see Gaborik in an Isles uniform… makes no sense since he wouldn’t sign a long term deal in Minny for something like 7 mil a season. Isles won’t buck up just yet… it’s not like they are looking for the missing piece to make a title run. Gaborik = huge injury risk who wants big time money. No thanks.
thats the good part about being so far under the cap and having teams like anaheim selling of pronger/neidermeyer the isles can swoop in and grab some decent rfa or on the buble young ufa
Appreciate the scoop, but this rumor smells like something some Islanders insiders may be artificially cooking up to try and rationalize the Guerin circus to the fans.
It looks like the original deal is dead and now the Isles will be scrambling. But at least it gives more ammunition for the ridiculous rumors. Guerin & Weight to WSH for Ovechkin & Semin???
I am tired of waiting for this to go down. Its starting to get ridiculas. We have to get one hell of a deal for this huge event that was put on.
No way, Rob. Gotta throw in Green in order for that to be worth it.
This is good, very good. Snow should also include Martinek in the deal! Let’s possibly get some quality players right way!
Is it just me or does this trade deadline seem like all hype no action… I know it’s still early but come on…
Guerin and Weight to Montreal in exchange for:
Ryan McDonagh and Alex Tanguay (salary dump).
-McDonagh is a phenomenal defensive prospect who could blossom into a true first pairing defenseman. We sorely lack players like this in our system, and Montreal’s is loaded. Weight walks in as the much needed second-line center in Montreal, while Guerin contributes both on and off the ice. Tanguay is merely just clearing out salary so they can absord Guerin and Weight, and he really has not performed up to par, even prior to his injury. They could replace Tanguay with Kovalev if they really wanted to.
Obviously just throwing it out there, odds are it would never happen.
if the Isles could pull off a trade to put both of them on a team for a Stanley Cup run that would be awesome for both of them…. but this has to be brutal on any family to go though this every year but its fun as hell for all of us hockey fans
If we trade both, fine…but for a captain it better not be Ricky. He is NOT the kind of leader this team needs. Does he have the fire to win, of course! BUT his ego has become supersized since signing the 15-year embarassment of a contract, and that’s not what this team needs. PS what has he done to deserve that swelled head? #1 overall -JOKE should have kept luongo All-Star last year? Ya but he got hurt in the skills competition. He’s injury prone and as a result will never live up to that number one billing. He’ll be good, but not as good as people think he will be
well isn’t that the ultimate french tickler CB both Weight and Guerin together….we couldn’t be that lucky now could we. 2 days of gut wrenching dramaless trade updates.thanks for the hard work CB
This is really getting a little suspicious to me now! What teams out there are going to make a move for 2, 38 yr olds that have a total of 25 goals on the season, Guerin has 3goals in his last 26 games and Weight is out with a knee injury!! If you are a GM, are you lining up to capture these 2 guy’s? Clearing Cap space to add them?? Trading young talent and picks to get them?? It sounds like a request from 1 or the other to see if they could be included in the deal, if it is a true story at all!! CB at this point I am more interested in what you are hearing reg Witt!
The trade with Guerin and Weight is most likely going to bring in a pick in return. I’m thinking a 2nd round pick and a conditional pick.
I had a feeling Weight and Guerin would be tied together for a deal.
I’ve called this whole thing pretty good right up until Guerin being held out of the last game.
Guerin and Weight are gonna boost someones PP in the post season. Who ever gets those two together is going on a damn good run.
The return should be a B level prospect and a 2nd rounder at minimum.
And we still hold another Ace in Witt to deal off.
This is gonna get good.
I think if you look back about 700 posts I speculated Weight and Guerin to Carolina.
You could look it up………SW
do you want a medal
hunter or streit should be captain anythoughts
what about getting stall from pitt for them he is signed for 4 more years ?/
Sorry CB….keep up the good work!!!!
im telling you the hold up is a player not wanting ot come back to the isle
cmimbri- The player has no say unless he has a NTC.
no i hear ya on that butit can make it difficult for the trade to go down if he refuses to report or maybe its a player with a ntc ….look all im saying is after 2 days of sitting infront of my lap top like the uncle from one crazy summer waiting for the radio contest….im getting the feeling that this is smoke and mirrors and there is a far out of left field reason for it
I was hoping they’d (we’d) keep Weight.
From the beginning I’ve always thought that it would be the best for both the Islanders and the trading partner to have Guerin & Weight in the same package.
And to be honest, I really do believe that Montreal would be a great fit. They sure need some experience. They could use a veteran winger like Guerin. They have lots of european player and some leadership coming from North American player could only help. And with Koivu, Plekanec, Lapierre & Metropolit as center, they sure could use a Doug Weight.
PLUS, if they believe they aren’t going to sign Komisarek, why not trade him for Witt. They’re both the same kind of player. And Witt is signed for two more seasons. Komi is a free agent and the Habs are fully aware that Komi will request a lot of money.
Wouldn’t we be happy with some picks and Komi for the trio of Weight, Guerin and Witt ? As long as we sign Komi long term.
Komi and DP are great friends off the ice. They train together all summer long. So DP probably knows if Komi would commit to play on Long Island.
yea id rather see tambi go then weight but also why lose the guy for nothing in july get some thing for them now and tambi is as useless as cans on a nun
dont forget dandenault asked to be moved as well
who cares who the captain is next year??? A lot is going to change between now and next years training camp.
If we trade both Guerin and Weight, we just better end up with a first round draft pick or a TRUE prospect, like someone ranked in the top 20 of overall 500 best prospects….. Enough of these prospects who have no chance to max out any better than a third liner… I’m sick of Sean Bergenheim’s and Jeff Tambellini’s!!
CB, Thanks for the update I have been at work all day and I feel all caught up by you. It should be interesting tonight to actually see a big forward in the lineup as young as he is. And to echo what everyone else is saying I would expect to see Guerin & Weight go in the same deal they are both so heavily discounted (injury & no move clause) that whomever is going to pick them up will get a bargain. What about resigning Jackman can we get that done before they trade him away for a sixth round pick
how could anyone imagine a second rounder for true winners like Guerin AND Weight when we got a first rounder for Comrie and Campoli……maybe I just don’t get it!
Robert, numero 423… Bergenhiem is damn good, ask the Sabres.
CB, good spot on Power Play today. I just think this has turned into a classic Islanders boondoggle.
b-ri: There is no way that the Islanders follow suit and make Ricky the fake make-pretend “Captain” who cant actually be captain on the ice. There is no way that Ricky would want to copy Luongo of all players!
Im wiith Doc- why worry about this C business right now anyway? We have no idea who will be on this team next season. Ive always thought that the best way to garner a Captain is for one to step up naturally.
Someone just mentioned rather seeing Tambi go than Weight go… Well Weight is old and has no future here, but as far as Tambellini, who on God’s earth would want him…. Unless we could trade him to Bridgeport for Mitch Fritz… you are kidding yourself!!
A first round pick would be graet but I think the Islanders would have to take a roster player in return to free up space from this other team
gary…….exactly … ding ding ding ding
well i certainly dont want him on the isles no more he stinks ……so if you cant trade him what do you do with him
I think getting rid of both of them is a great idea to have plenty of cap room for nextt season and get something in return for the future.
Moose 426… I love you guys who judge a guy by one game…. What did Bergie do the first 40 games, or last three years for that matter??… If I recall correctly he had been scratched alot before that Buffalo game, and I’m not convinced all of those scratches were because of injury… Some were healthy scratches… I posted the night of the Buffalo game, The Isles should trade Bergie to Buffalo RIGHT NOW because I think he has them fooled he knows how to play hockey..
If they are here next year the options for captain fall onto three players. One of either: Brendan Witt, Richard Park, or Trent hunter. Thats it. So take your pick. I say Hunter who, if not hurt this season, would have put up close to 50 pts while being a tank in the corners. His wheels seem to have gotten better this year too.
#427 - Gary spot on!
I have a visual of Garth crying & saying “what do you mean Guerin for your 1st rounder is OFF the table?? PLEASE, PLEASE what about if I include Guerin’s best friend Doug Weight in the deal?? PLEASE, I’m new at this, please help me…”
NHL GM’s are spinning Garth like a Top right now. It’s July 1 2007 all over again. Fortunately NOTHING of value is at stake this time around.
BUT imagine if there was?
I just got the THN Future Watch, CB was right Filatov is ranked #1.
They have the following for the Islanders top 10 prospects:
Aaron Ness, Corey Trivino, Kiril Petrov, Travis Harmonic, Jesse Joensuu, Trevor Smith, Jack Hillen, Matt Martin, Mark Katic and Rhett Rahkshani.
They are both leaving anyway, if we can get back a 1st or 2nd rounder we should take it. I appreciate their efforts and everything but we are in 30th place. I am not positive about this but I believe we would probably still be in last place if we didnt have them at all this year. Before the season, no one even wanted Weight, he signed with us because we could give him some ice time. Same thing with Guerin the year before. We are paying these guys a lot of money. If we can get back a good pick for them, great.
Didn’t we all think a package deal was going to be the way to go weeks ago? Just please end the negotiations and make everyone happy.
Tom:
Thanks for the insight. I’m glad you were there to hear how the deal went down so that the rest of us wouldn’t be left wondering how it all happens.
DOC
I just looked at NHL.com and they have a headline saying “the Avs aren’t shopping Ryan Smyth, but he would make a great fit for a contender”… I almost puked… anyone want to take a second shot at him… Maybe thats whats going down… Guerin for Smyth back… maybe Snow throws in out #1 and we lose Tavares as well!!
Yeah. Let me go look that up.
I hope people are still complaining about Garth Snow when he turns all of our veterans into picks and/or prospects and he turns this around in a few years.
The Islanders are in the best position out of any team right now to turn their fortunes around. Enough of the Snow bashing and assuming this is his fault.
Three possible deal ideas:
1) Guerin+Weight+2nd rounder to Montreal for Higgins+D’Agostini+later rounder
2) Guerin+Weight+2nd rounder to Washington for Flieschmann+Varlamov (Goalie prospect)
3) Guerin+Weight to Columbus (not quite a cup contender, but they could be with this) for Jakub Voracek and picks.
I would not count out Columbus. They were hot for Weight, and by taking both guys, they would really deepen their team for the playoffs and make a nice combo with Nash, especially on the power play. Hitchcock, I believe, coached guerin in Dallas, so maybe it’s a fit. This club has never made the playoffs and MUST get in this year, so maybe they’d pay a bit more. Voracek is a big, shifty talent on wing which we don’t really have other than Okposo, so I’d try for this if I were Snow.
Post 434. If you think Bergy is a bad prospect you are clearly out of your mind and comparing him or using him in the same sentence as Tambellini just proves it. Before you say it I’m not only referring to the Buffalo game. Some prospects take a while to develop which a lot of Isles fans have a hard time with (Milburyitis). The kid has always had a lot of potential as well as upside. Works hard every shift. Seriously, don’t bring up the stupid penalty thing either you can say that about anyone on the team.
Yeah let me run it by Garth and I’ll get back to ya’
My only problem with this whole circus is that Guerin should have been in the lineup until he was actually traded.
Ooh, good one, Robert. I think you just might have scooped Tom.
I hope people arent thinking that weight has a lot of value in a trade. The guy is 38, has a knee injury and isnt close to returning. That isnt the sort of player you give up a lot for. There are 20 games left in the regular season, he will probably miss another 10 or so. Anything we get for him would be a bonus because if he stayed he would probably take the ice for a handful of games.
Anything better than a 3rd round pick will be fine with me.
Now that word is weight is involved it just confirms my thought that this is a big trade. I still think the struggle might be that the team looking to trade wants garth to take a salary back, knowing that the isles have all sorts of cap room and garth is trying to get the best possible prospects ant picks to get the deal that works best. I dont care what anyone says, this is the most fun I have had with the islanders since the smythe trade. at least we are getting something interesting out of the team
I think we’re all setting ourselves up for a major letdown with this John Tavares thing. Even if the Isles finish with the worst record in the league, they have a less than 50-percent chance of actually getting the top pick. There’s nothing wrong with the fans of a last place team having something to root for and look forward to, but we shouldn’t act like the guy is already an Islander. Let’s face it: More likely than not, John Tavares is not going to be an Islander.
devs just got havelid from atlanta.
pritchett54 post#449, weight is exactly the player you want in the playoffs, a guy who can dominate a pp and put a team to the cup in the short term. these teams that are in contention have big payrolls and must make significant noise in the postseason and they are giving up everything they can to make it that is sports so guerin and weight can bring back some good value and I would be surprised if it diddnt
Tony (447) There would be none of this Guerin talk if he got injured in that game against Buffalo. Besides what did he do for us the last 25 games or so 2 goals?I like him and all but get what you can for him.
Rather have Hedman anyway
Scott D that’s just cruel!! Kick us when we are down! That really hurts!! Next you will tell us the Lighthouse will never get built!! Is there any hope??
Blizzard (455)— I happen to agree with you, but we’re clearly in the minority with that opinion.
I’m here in DC…and no chance Caps give up Fleischman and Varlamov for 2 guys over 37…get serious. If the Caps are involved, they will give up at most a 2nd round draft pick and a mid level prospect. Last year they dealt a 2nd rounder for Huet. Don’t expect much more.
Does anyone even care about Guerin anymore?
The deal fell through. The deal was BG to Was for Jason Taylor. Was. has since cut Taylor
A little football humor.
Devils gave up Salmela for Havalid. Devils get the defensive depth they need.
StevieL — I’m just worried that our fan base is setting itself up for devastation given the likelihood that he winds up elsewhere. We can of course hope for the top pick, but we should also be happy to have the chance to pick Hedman with the second pick if that’s where the chips happen to to fall.
I don’t know how anyone can want Hedman when we have had the worst Goals For in the league for I don’t know how many years(or close to it). Taveras is a ready to go prospect where as Hedman was a no show at the WJC and his skating is questionable as per many scouts. He probably needs a few years to mature. But this all means Snow will pick Hedman so you guys will be happy. Never count on him to make the popular decision. He will re-invent the wheel in this draft I’m sure.
Dan from DC: I agree. The goal of trading vets at this time of year is to 1. HOPE that you get a prospect that needs a change of scenery. 2. Unload players and salary that you no longer see fitting the “plan” 3. Get some draft picks which are assets on draft day and they will increase your chances of getting lucky with a pick.
“We” shouldn’t expect more than that.
DOC
Matt,
How many D-men are out there that have Hedman’s potential? I think either way we are in a good position.
If Doug Weight is involved one would suspect that the team involved would want him examined by their medical staff to make sure that he will be fit in time for the end of the season. Maybe that a cause of the delay
How long has it been since we had a bonifide scorer? Why draft on potential when you can draft almost knowing what you are getting? Hedman is also a euro player which is proving more risky these days.
Oh, and Robert (434)… re: “If I recall correctly he had been scratched alot before that Buffalo game, and I’m not convinced all of those scratches were because of injury… Some were healthy scratches…” At the risk of finding actual, you know, facts, I checked Bergenheim’s stats on the team web site. And I quote:
“Has been a healthy scratch for one game (12/29)”
True Matt. I just feel like its easier to sign a bonafide scorer then it is a D-man and although Tavares is going to go #1 or #2, he may not be an ovechkin or crosby.
Stamkos is going to be a very good player but is he as good as those guys? I guess that’s my point.
John Tavares would be my choice also. The only real concern for some scouts is his skating. With time that can improve. They need a pure goal scorer like him to help sell some of those empty seats. Hey at worst Hedman would not be horrible at number 2.
Weight+Guerin+Witt to Montreal for 1st rounder+Komisarek would be a nice deal if we could get Komisarek to sign long term but, we all know how that turns out when we wanted Captain Canada for long term
I like Peter Puck’s theory — it’s as good a reason as any for the deafening silence from the club.
in response to 464, are there any other options available that islanders fans are pining for?
you seem to imply theres another route to go besides the three you listed…?
My point wasn’t to start a Tavares vs. Hedman debate, it was just to say that we as fans are setting ourselves up for a huge letdown if we start to assume Tavares will be an Islander. I’ve seen that a lot lately.
Matt - I’m not sure where you get Hedman is not a good skater. In THN’s profile, the first line is “Hedman is a great skater”. It says Tavares’ skating is the only question, but not a liability.
Taveres has some skills no question. But I do not think he is the next Crosby or Ovechkin. Hedman however will be an elite defenseman no question. Think Pronger, Lidstrom, when was the last Stanly cup winner that did not have a stud d-man? Lighting it up in juniors doesnt guarantee scoring in the NHL. Remember the Daigle, Pronger draft?
I have to agree with 476, I would pick Hedman of Taveres. If we somehow got the 2nd pick and Taveres fell into my lap, I’d be fine with that as well
i think with either one you cant go wrong…
EYE:
I’m sure there are several options/routes that we all want as fans. But what is fantasy and what is reality are definitely two different things.
DOC
Pannini 471- Gainey to the Cheering crowds of Canadian fans!
” I have made the trade that will bring the Cup back to the Bleu, Blanc and Rouge!! I got “2″ 38 yr olds! One who is out with a knee injury! and a D-man who is a -1000 and all I had to give up was your young alternate Captain, top 5 D-man in the league, Komisarek and , Oh Yeah!! a useless number 1 pick , which will only be a top 20 pick! How’s that sound!! You can thank me after we win the Cup!!
Guy’s can we get a little realistic here???
ok… breaking news…. my buddy who has no connections and is a slacker college student, just texted me its Guerin and Weight to the Caps for a first rounder and a cap defensive prospect… If I got this scoop before CB, I want a speaking engagement at point blank night 2… LOL
yea but you gotta want Taverese, I mean don’t get me wrong Hedmen would be great but that’s only okay if we end up losing the lottery. We desparetly need a goal scorer. We can use the other 1st/2nd round picks to add some d-men
Next week on Sober House…Dr. Drew Pinsky works with posters on the Islanders Point Blank blog about their addiction.
I am almost certain the team is Phi, Montreal or Washington. I think regardless Snow is talking with all those teams about Islanders. I think Philly needs to free up cap space and is having a hard time doing it without getting burned. Hell we’ll take Hartnell and that will help.
Anyone else surprised nothing else has happened trade wise? I thought maybe a small one. Things will probably go crazy and fast.
In reference to Scott saying we have a less than 50% chance to land Taveras. If we finish last we are guaranteed a top 2 pick. To me that is a 50% chance at the worst, becuase if we are #2 maybe #1 picks Hedman
Marc, I am just saying championships are built with BLUE CHIP prospects.. Pittsburgh had to absolutely stink to get their hands on Crosby, Malkin, Fleury, and Staal…. I don’t want to stay stuck in mediocrity… If you want to call Bergenheim a quality prospect, ok, go ahead…. But I believe he maxes out as a good third liner, and if you ever want to see the Isles to more than just sneak into the 8th playoff spot, we need more BLUE CHIP prospects… Like a Pailey or Okposo level… Not a guy that they write, “if he reaches his full potential, he could be a good third liner”.
You can get some good D late in the draft these days. Streit and McCabe are both late draft picks.
There are many others in this league playing at high level that were taken late in the draft.
Nik Lidstrom was also a third round pick (53rd overall).
Take the goal scorer. Much harder to come by.
who is pailey
OK, my slacker college buddy when I asked him “are you sure”… his response was, “no, I’m asking you!”…. LOL… I never mentioned that to him… This thing is out of control… Sorry if anyone got to excited with that Washington deal… it did sound nice.. LOL
Still don’t understand why everyone insists this is somehow Garth’s fault.
http://www.islanderswhatever.com lives on forever!
Matt 445… that post at 485 was directly toward you as well
I think the title of the blog should be changed from Billy Bye-Bye Blog, to The Weighting Game
pailey is the cousin of josh bailey.. A highly regarded 6;10 scoring winger… cut me some slack on the spelling…LOL
Seriously - how hard is it to make a trade?! I could have pulled this off in my fantasy six times already!
Folks, Washington has the most exciting young D man in the NHL in Green. And yet no one notices him when Ovetchkin is in the room.
Scorers put fannies in the seats. And when they score those same fannies jump up and scream.
Tavares it is…………SW
garth? are you out there? I think he took a snowday (no pun intented).
The problem I have with Hedman at this point is that for all of his size he does not have a huge physical presence. By his own admission he does not like the rough stuff, and I think that showed during the WJC (except perhaps for the final moments of the Gold Medal game). It doesn’t mean that he can’t be coached to be a more physical player, but right now he is not quite a “beast.”
Tic..Toc..Tic..Toc…Game in 40 minutes.
Any one who thinks that taking Hedman over Tavares is the right move is lost. Franchise goal scorers change FRANCHISES - what does our FRANCHISE need? we havent had a guy who can put the puck in the net in at least 15 years - Ziggy is not what Tavares is projected to be - maybe Turgeon or LaFontaine was the last big goal scorer - Tavares it is
Watch Xice.com get the scoop. Remember that site?
CB- Whats the chance of a guerin trade tonight???
Rob you can find goal scores, it’s not everyday you find 6′7 defensemen who can skate and play like Hedman can, I think it’s a little unfair to call someone lost for wanting to take a franchise defensemen over a franchise goal scorer
CB, With the AHL playoffs coming and clear day rosters on the 11th of march which islanders will be able to come down and make a push for the calder cup?
Look…if we get the #1 pick, we take JT. If we get the #2 we’ll take VH.
And if Snow pulls off the deal of the century, We’ll get both
I can undrstand why Smyth would sign with Colorodo, it is much closer to where his family is in Edmonton. Living on Long Island would have been a loooong way home on a break, etc. Based on how his performance has been, devine intervention took over. I like the direction of the team with building thru the draft. If we signed Smyth, we would have him on the trading block too.
CB GREAT JOB THANKS FOR THE UPDATES
CANT WAIT FOR YOUR POST GAME INFO
I think bunching Weight and Guerin makes oodles of sense. Send ‘em both to the Caps! Maybe we can get their #1 and #2 pick in return.
Marc…(468) as far as going to the official site to find out real facts… you’re gonna be waiting a long time… they disclose nothing! nothing was mentioned about Bailey when he was hurt early in the season or what was wrong… and they certainly don’t discuss internal problems between players and coaches.. so your little factional check on how many official healthy scratches Bergenheim has had this year… I’m not putting too much stock in your official source… CB gives more facts on this site than that site gives all year… That site has one purpose… SELL TICKETS!
“They’re”
Wooo Wooo Grammar Police!
Oh no!!!
We’re stuck with Andy Brickley.
This guy’s laid on thick Boston accent drives me nuts.
He isn’t getting traded. Would have happened by now. Let’s start a new blog!
This trade is ridiculous. Just say something about anything already.
Either way Marc from Troy… whether Bergenheim was a healthy scratch for 1 or 100 games, the point is he is on the long list of third liners we have, and not the type of player that is gonna take us to another level… If you don’t mind staying stuck in mediocrity, clone a whole bunch of Bergenheim’s.
Somebody just mentioned a hockey game…. they are still playing?? LOL
and the boo birds began
wow Martinek is wearing an “A”
Sounds good to me hearing Ryan Smyth get it from the crowd.
versus’s hd is terrible compared to msg plus
Voros for Lappy?
Pailey, a blue chip prospect?
Joensuu is a 6th round pick huh… News to me. Good to see the broadcast crew is doing their homework.
updated, wondering where Trent Hunter is…CB
oh god here we go again with hunter
let the hunter thread begin!
Crap. I don’t want Hunter traded. There is no need to trade good players with great contracts. I hope Garth doesn’t do anything stupid.
Kinger confirmed that Hunter DID take the pregame skate.
no witt either?
is mcammond wearing an “A”?
OMG. Well…I guess you can switch from the live-blogging Guerin to live-blogging where Hunts went.
And the Trent Hunter Live Trade Blog begins in 5……….4………..3……….2……
524 - Hunter may be a necessary piece. It’s not out of the question to demand a 1st rounder for Guerin/Weight and Hunter…
Hunter has one of the best contracts in the league. If they trade him, they better get someone really worth the value for him.
Hunter and Guerin could fetch something interesting
Martinek wearing the A as well someone said?? This is just bizaare. At least being an Isles fan is interesting.
has anyone seen witt??
this is turning into something better then where is waldo
he is suspended for 5 games
If Hunter is involved it better be good. I know he is streaky but he is one of my favs.
Witt’s still suspended eye
Is there anywhere to watch this game on a computer, considering we don’t get versus here in UAlbany?…..I wanna watch JJ
there booing ryan smyth bad.give the guy a break he didnt sign here do u blame him
Hunter is injured according to the Jaff.
Billy just said it was an injury.
billy jaffe said trent is injured.
no not HUNTER!
Good player, great name.
Hunter Injured in warmups.. wont play..
Jaffe just said Hunter was injured. He “tried” to go during the warmups. Not sure if its true or not
injury according to versus but they are morons no offense to jaffe.
haha yea thanks
jaffe just said trent went off with an “injury” during warmups
Hahaha..I see I’m not the only one religiously watching the game and this blog
Hunter Injured as per Jaffe
did they say Hunter skated in warm ups? I heard the injury part…
McAmmond wearing an A as well…hmmm
I would think they would have to get a ready to go player for him, not a prospect. Guy has a good contract and according to Garth he is,”everything Islanders”, so why trade him? Guerin, Weight, and Hunter for a first we are getting boinked unless its top 10. This isn’t EA Sports! Thats trading a whole line! LOL!
CB- you may want to rethink your 10pm deadline, it’s no longer the Guerin deal…it’s now the Guerin-Weight-Hunter deal…by 10 it could be Martinek as well.
Hopefully Garth partially throws this youth movement under a bus & gets talent. ttalent always beats untalent. The Isles are the untalent.
What a nice play by Jon Sim. Islanders are really playing great.
wait, was hunter injured?
Bergie just fake himself out…that’s the kind of move that keeps him from being a 30+ goal scorer
bergie needs to go stickhandling camp
streits wearing an “A” as well. Martinek, Mcammond and streit?
o wow just saw that
mcdonald doesnt look out of place at all
i agree nystrom. i was saying that the other night. He definitely has a good offensive knack.
whats everyone odds on whether the isles resign mccammond or not?
id got w/ like 55% right now
32%
0%
Why does the Versus HD feed always look so crappy?
CB- fish out that facts! Something just told Jaffe a WHALE of a story. Hunter ain’t injuried.
Why does the Versus HD feed always look so crappy??
Lazy penalty by Sim…
Guerin, Witt, Weight, Park, and Hunter are all hurt or out so obviously the A’s have to go to someone and I guess Martinek, Streit, and McAmmond were the choices
Gut feeling that Hunter is gone..
Forget Mcammond. If we are going to have a veteran presence on this team next year it better stop being these garbage players like Mcammond..We need a legitimate veteran player who actually knows how to play the game and lead in the locker room. I am sick of getting these guys they call great leaders and they are nothing more than 3rd and 4th line players
Sim Sucks
You I think there’s a pretty good chance the Islanders resign Dean….especially if they trade both Weight and Guerin, they need veteran presence somewhere…and he’s already getting an “A”
brian your talking about a 1st or 2nd liner around 30-32-those are the players we have trouble signing every summer, so we do have to make due w/ what we can get
i share your ambition for better players but it would appear to be only wishful thinking until we have a better product
edit- It should read “You know”…not just “You I”…maybe I should proof read before posting
Brian (573)
Im not a fan of Mcammond nor am i defending him but why does a captain have to be the best player on the team?
A hockey team is made up of many different parts. What goes on in the locker room, practice, travel is what makes someone a Captain.
One of the best known Captains ever was Eruzione on team USA… He was not even close to the best player on the team…. He was the piece that tied them all together.
no hard feelings, just voicing my opinion… which amounts to nothing
Looks like the Avs are playing to lose.
how bad are the Avs?
Yea they’re trying to catch us in the draft lottery standings steve-o haha!!
The Avs are 15th in the West, but only 10 points out of the playoffs.
could it possibly be Guerin and Weight to Florida for Jay Bouwmeester and a draft pick?
LOL at that last one.
No way we go for Jay Bo…why trade for another UFA? Gotta be draft picks, only way to get something worthwhile for Guerin and Weight.
Hey CB, any word on Hunter’s “injury”?
Nice job by Sim costing us a goal, trade him for a bag of pucks.
Wow they just played the horn for the Avs… Interesting
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand smyth scores against us. That about sums up the islanders as a franchise
ankle…as stated on top of this blog
ok was just asking… didn’t know he was a UFA at the end of the season… my bad!
i hate that hair bag smyth!
Nice job by Joensuu
Yea Jesse!
Yea Joensuu!!!!
NICE…..JJ!!!
WOOO Joensuu
JJ!!!
JOENSUU!!!!!
JESSE JOENSUU!
JJ the jet plane…lol
Nice goal by Jesse. I wish the PA announcer was a little more enthusiastic sounding!
Botts: No chance the Isles have Joensuu play this season
. Had to jab ya, sorry.
kid looks like a friggin freight trainnnn…….lets go islesssssss
This team cant even lose correctly…we need to finish last
I know its the Avs, but the Kids look good tonight. Really taking charge. Maybe because all the vets are out of the lineup lol
it looks like trent’s hurt????
i would usually hope against this, however, tonight……
i hope he is, just a little…
i love him, his energy, his steadiness, his leadership and consistancy!
on another note……with nhl center-ice in va NO GAMES are EVER in HD although i gotttts the tv and stereo to boot,
soooo tonight’s a TREAT even if youuuuz guys say the vs feed suxxxx.
peace,
hasnizzle~
it’s like there’s a party in my eyes and everyone’s invited!
Richie 605- i couldnt have said it better myself
they really rope you in to wanting them to do good now, which makes it all the worse
getting rid of comrie was the worst thing we coulda done
i hear ya dhas…im in NC ….NO HD games ever!!!
we need to re-sign Jackman….he is all over the ice
glad for both smyth and jonesuu. smyth is a class act and jesse should have a long career here as a power forward. jesse adds some badly needed size here too. very curious about hunter.
Hell officially froze over…Gervais scored !!!!! WoooHooo
tonight sim went from not being claimed on waivers to having value- crazy
Nice! Gervais ends his 2,000 game scoring drought.
Ill tell you what…i cant tell if the islanders are really good tonight..or the aves are just really bad..
Who are these guys in the blue shirts?
Sim has three assists and been playing well lately, can we lay off him?
heres some food for thought.. made the islanders have a conditional trade in place… guerin + weight and maybe a 2nd rounder?? to a team like montreal for a player like komisarek ….. and the deal is conditional to the isles signing komisarek and maybe montreal getting guerin and or weight to sign before the three pm dead line on wednesday any one think something like is is possible condsidering how the smyth trade turned out
Congrats to Bruno!!!!
Good to see him finally get one!!
he will be traded by Wed!
Guys, guys, GUYS….teh Isles are finishing 30th, relax! BELIEVE me, IF it gets even remotely close, Flash will go back to the Overspeed sytem that ditched a month agao. If that doesn’t work, Flash will pull the goalie midway through the 3rd period each night.
Believe me LOSING is the #1 goal of garth & Flash’s professional lives. With 30th place THIS close they won’t fumble at the goal line.
Does anyone else think that McAmmond is seriously overshooting our expectations ?
See what happens when you trade or sit players that don’t want to be here? You start winning and playing well.
Brunooooooooooooooooo!
Finally lol!
And Jon Sim with the 3 assists, too!
Sim with another point, he has been playing much better.
Sim is starting to be the player we signed. Everyone gets on him, but he is coming off major knee surgery. It takes a year just to recover from that, then you need to get your game back, which he is starting to do now.
Am I dreaming? Did Bruno just score?
there were 2 theories i saw was 1 - it is indeed still in the cap’s court, but they are at the max contract limit, so they need to trade someone just to take guerin, maybe an issue of what prospect to send us… and the other setup was philly - no cap space.. they gotta make a move first..
tom i hope your right
(SinCity)RE: I don’t want to burst your bubble but Guerin Weight and a 1st probably wouldn’t pry Komisarek from Mtl.
Stop scoring!!!! Hahaha. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
its only fitting that joensuu scores in his debut, that sim has 3 points when we cant stand him sometimes, and that ryan smyth scored against us.
Wow Jon Sim putting up a great showcase. Hopefully this warrants a nice pick for him with a few scouts in attendance.
Who is this Jon Sim, and where has he been before the last 2 weeks? Like wtf.
eye on the island and tom can be banished..forever
negative nancies deserve to be in the same bed.
Only a fool would come out with the statement Tom did.. a real fool.
Callahan picked up his first career assist on the Joensuu goal.
