WANG, RECHLER, SUOZZI CONFIRMED. MURRAY?
Lighthouse Outreach: Thursday, March 26 at 7:00 pm

Kate Murray, the Town of Hempstead Supervisor, declined to represent her constituency the last two hockey seasons when the Islanders hosted Town of Hempstead nights at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. That’s somewhat understandable. Maybe she was concerned about a perceived conflict of interest if Charles Wang left her a pair of comps at Will Call.

But last May, when Hempstead hosted a scoping hearing at a packed Town Hall, Murray was nowhere to be found. Last month, when the Town of Hempstead adopted the scope, Murray was said to be on vacation.

When it comes to Nassau’s biggest real estate development in a generation, Kate The Public Servant becomes Greta Garbo.

One week from today, the Lighthouse Development Corporation is hosting a Community Education Outreach at 7:00 pm at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale. That’s Thursday, March 26. Charles Wang and Scott Rechler, the developers approved after a lengthy Request For Proposals process, will be in attendance. Tom Suozzi, the Nassau County Executive, has accepted an invitation to speak. There will be other community leaders, from both sides of the aisle.

The Marriott ballroom will be jammed with citizens for and against the project. Point Blank has been told by residents via email that the Town of Hempstead has begun an underground campaign encouraging dissenters to show up in full force. If you have an opinion about the project but don’t think your voice is important enough to attend, think again.

Everyone is invited. Remember, this is not just about the New York Islanders. Arrive early to get a seat and to sign up to speak.

Kate Murray received the same invitation as Suozzi. There will be no grander stage for the Town Supervisor to tell Lighthouse advocates and opposers what she really thinks. Murray will have as much time as needed to provide her detailed, impassioned view of what she likes and doesn’t like about the Coliseum project. Her concerns - if she had any - will be amplified by the large media turnout. These are the types of opportunites the finest community leaders embrace.

You can be guaranteed this will be a news-making event. Let’s hope Kate Murray will be there next Thursday to represent the Town of Hempstead.

Will you? Point Blank will be there on March 26 at 7:00 pm. In Comments, 1) please RSVP only if you are able to attend; 2) give us an idea of how many of your friends are also coming and 3) whether you’re attending or not, let us know what you hope comes out of the meeting.

Comment Guidelines. If you haven’t already, please read before posting. Islanders call-ups will be tomorrow. Hockey talk in next thread. Thanks.

she has certainly become the center of attention because of this project. Maybe she has plans to run for suozzis job. CB I wonder what the oppositions issues are other than traffic concerns?

  2. 2 Ari from Long Island

I am a Republican AGAINST Murray. She is a disgrace!

  3. 3 Joe

Sucks, Im at school till the following Thursday, so I wont be attending.

  4. 4 Chris TMC

I would not miss it! :D

  5. 5 walter

    ill be there

  6. 6 bergie20

    i’ll be there.

  7. 7 pablo

Who Cares ! Hopefully Charles Wang sells the Islandrs he is just an Anchor on this club! This is an honest opinion that will be deleted because the OPINION is different than the blogger.

    It will? LOL…CB

  8. 8 Angry Bill

    An honest but uninformed opinion.

  9. 9 Jay

I just want some reason for her non-support…..so far we haven’t heard one reason….all I know is she does not vocally support it. When she finally does give a reason, lets hope that there are some great rebuttals.

  10. 10 Lorne

Will absolutely be there, wish it would start a little later so I could get a seat.

  11. 11 Michael B.

    In response to #2:

I too am very conservative, and I agree that Murray is a disgrace.

    Get the Lighthouse done!

  12. 12 Mikey

I just called my dad and confirmed his attendance at the meeting next week. Unfortunately, I can’t make it because I live too far away.

It is very disconcerting to hear that ToH officials are trying to create and mobilize opposition. If Murray is against the project, she needs to show up to the meeting and argue her case. Let’s have an open debate in public on the merits. Our arguments for the project are better than her “save suburbia” NIMBY garbage, and she knows it. I am convinced that she is trying to use this as a political football for a November election against Suozzi. If we make our voices heard, however, she will have no choice but to approve the project.

  13. 13 michael

kate murray definitely wont be there. she can’t take a phone call and she WONT attend a meeting. she is one of the WORST politicians i’ve seen in my life. she isn’t a senator, it really amazes me how difficult it is to get her on the phone!

  14. 14 kevin fitz

We are all aware this is not getting done right? Wang should tell Hempstead and Nassau to go shove it and start building something with Queens. You know, the place that actually WANTS them.

  15. 15 JayK

I will be there, and this email campaign you are referring to, targeted at dissenters, just blows me away. It confirms what I’ve thought: Kate Murray thinks the NIMBY folks will come to her rescue on this. I have to say, though, that since the NIMBYites have not organized on this issue previously, it’s hard to see that they are going to at this late date.

One other thing, everybody: keep the orange and blue garb at home. Don’t give them the chance to say “this is all about the Islanders.” Talk jobs. Talk young people fleeing Long Island. Talk how the opponents have no other plans except the “arena in a sea of asphalt” that all of sports has moved away from.

Talk about how there is a story in Newsday today (and a Census report behind it, which I have looked at briefly) that shows Nassau’s population continuing to decline, the only county — besides Essex — to do so in the New York area.
And the great irony? The report also shows the 2007 was the biggest year for births in the USA’s history. And yet we lost population. What does that tell you?
Keep your focus on that. I want to hear the counter-arguments to such an approach.

  16. 16 Richie66

I would like to RSVP. I will be there to show my support. I have missed other opportunities but not this time. Most import to me is where exactly we stand on the outstanding issues. I also would also like to see Murray show up and address her side, I really hope there is a true Q&A and no one dodges any issues

  17. 17 JayK

And one other thing: I’m bringing my mother in law. She is a huge supporter of the Lighthouse. Her knowledge about hockey can be encapsulated in one incident: a hockey game was on TV, and she inquired whether they played with one puck or whether all the players got one.

  18. 18 Valentino

I will attend plus 3 people

  19. 19 Froggy

Anyone have any idea how long the meeting will last? Can’t get there until 9:30. Will it still be going on?

  20. 20 mrlbem

    I’ll be there.

  21. 21 Wedregast

I unfortunately won’t be able to attend since I have school that night. I hope enough people show up to show support for this project, that TOH pushes it through.

We need the Lighthouse. Nassau County needs the Lighthouse. Islanders needs the Lighthouse.

  22. 22 mrlbem

Exactly what “suburbia” is Kate trying to save? That part of suburbia that’s about 2 miles west of the Coliseum down Hempstead Tpke, the downtown portion of the Village of Hempstead that makes one think of urban blight and Newark, NJ pre-Prudential Center?

  23. 23 UIF

For those who are going, I would like someone to bring up Phoenix as an example of what could happen building an arena with nothing around it. The facility itself is great, but with nothing around, they struggle with attendance. I think someone who posts here is from that area and could elaborate more accurately. Might be a good addition to the “sea of asphalt” argument.

  24. 24 JP39

I’ll be there for sure, with at least two others.

And I strongly agree with post #15. Let’s go there and respresent ourselves as LONG ISLANDERS, not just as Isles fans (just for this one night). I feel like it will give off a stronger presence that way. See you all there…

  25. 25 Shoogah

I’ll definately be there. I’m really interested in hearing the arguements against the project. I would also like to know where Kate Murray stands on the issue.

  26. 26 John R.

I know were only supposed to respond if we can make it but I just wanted to agree with the posters saying it should be about the town and not the team. I can not make it because I moved out of the area 5 years ago for a better life. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Island but it doesn’t make sense to live there for a young person coming out of college. So anyone who does attend please represent us former and current Long Islanders well. No Islander jerseys or chants. Please do not get up and call anyone names or speak when others are speaking. Show everyone at the meeting the same respect you would expect back. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and if Kate shows up we need to prove to her that we’re not just ignorant hockey fans who are scared of losing our team. You need to prove that you are concerned citizens who want what is best for all Long Islanders, team or no team. After all that is the real issue here. Allowing the area to grow economically will bring lower taxes and more affordable housing and will bring people like me, (who miss Long Island and would move back in an instant if it made sense money wise) back for good.

  27. 27 Chris H

My husband and I will be there.

  28. 28 BR

Time to employ the old empty chair routine. Get one of the speakers to put an empty chair on the stage. Then, pointing to chair, announce, “and we’d like to give a special welcome and thanks to ToH Supervisor Kate Murray, for taking the time to join us tonight for this important discussion…”

  29. 29 Billy O

As a former Long Islander that currently lives in Virginia, my thoughts will be with the point blank crowd that night. The TOH and the Islanders need this project. Get it done or lose the Islanders to Queens and the rest of the population to other parts of the country.

  30. 30 Vic K.

I will be there with at least one friend.

  31. 31 JayK

OK, CB, I’ll stop after this one…I promise!

If she and her minions are sending our emails suggesting the foes of the Lighthouse show up, but then she doesn’t have the guts to show up herself, the people who should be the angriest are the ones she encouraged to attend when she wouldn’t provide in-person leadership.

I’ve also written Edie Laikin of Newsday telling her that if Kate Murray is a no-show, it should be in the story’s first three paragraphs, not buried like it was after the environmental scoping meeting. A politician who repeatedly refuses to show up at events because she doesn’t like the controversy is in the wrong line of work.

And if she does show up…no booing!!!

    OK, I’m done.

  32. 32 Ryan

I just sent an e-mail to Anthony Santino (councilmansantino@gmail.com) and I’d encourage everyone to put pressure not just on Kate Murray but on their own respective councilmen, especially the Republicans. They have pull on this issue, and if they feel that their feet are being held to the fire then they’re more likely to start holding Murray’s feet to said fire.

  33. 33 Michael Schuerlein

I won’t be missing this one, for sure.

  34. 34 michael

kate murrays secretary just told me she does not take phone calls. i find that to be a slap in the face of everyone who voted for her (not that i’m one of those people but she has no way of knowing that). i think her run as town supervisor has come to a close, whether the lighthouse is passed or not she isn’t winning any re-election.

  35. 35 Tom

CB, it’s very good to sell this night on the blog. Wang obviously needs Islander fans to support his project.

If I was Charlie & I was trying to build support for something…I would NOT keep running to & nagging my supporters for support. Islander fans want the lighthouse, mission accomplished. I think it’s important for Choo-choo to reach out to the regular citizens for support.

The stigma on this behemoth strip mall project is it’s for Islander fans. Wang says no, it’s for everybody. Well the if 200, 500, 5,000 Islander fans jam the Marriott it means squat in building support. You can’t build support you already have. What’s he looking for ‘Enthusiastic support’? Chanting won’t get this project done. I think Choo-choo needs to wake-up & start booking TV appearences on Business channels, on news channels….local & national. Something. Charlie’s got to stop being a hermit…move from his comfort zone. THAT’S how progress is made. Showing up at a hotel surrounded by your friends accomplishes nothing. That’s a cocktail party.

Bottom line: Until Kate Murray feels motivated to speak, Choo-choo will just twist in the wind.

  36. 36 Mrs.Murray

Maybe we all can wear white shirts! I’ll be there singing the lighthouse theme song.

  37. 37 pablo

    lol !

  38. 38 C.J.

I’ll be PC this time around CB, I promise.

    1. She’s far from Gretta Garbo in any way shape or form. To call her a diva is a compliment. She’s a nobody and a do-nothing. Perhaps that’s why she stands clear of the limelight in person… the veil comes off.

    2. She won’t show. I guarantee it. She’s already made clear she’s a coward who won’t even do the right thing in terms of discussing or directly responding to questions on this topic personally…. and to the people that pay her bloated salary.

    3. She’s low class and has made her bed in terms of being identified as a do nothing, egotistical, public servant. With that, she now will carry that stigma and will need to move to Alaska to gain any form of public office role going forward.

  39. 39 Jimmy Sparx

I will be there along with my wife :)

  40. 40 jonw

Your ideas are slightly over the top. Mr Wang do Isles fans a favor.Focus on getting a new arena first. If it has to be in queens so be it.Then pitch your lighthouse project sans hockey arena to the TOH .If the TOH doesn’t want it then move your location. All he is doing now is keeping the isles and their fans from enjoiying a new state of the art arena.

  41. 41 Helene

I WILL BE THERE! This is so beyond keeping our team - it is the viability of Nassau County vs. it’s death.

  42. 42 Ryan

I’m not a big fan of spreading unverified rumors, but a friend of mine’s brother works for the Town of Hempstead. Apparently, Supervisor Murray has told Town personnel not to attend the meeting. I’m not sure of the specifics, whether it was verbal or how wide-reaching it was. I’m also not sure if that extends to the councilmen, too, but if no one from the Town shows up on Thursday you can probably consider that verified.

  43. 43 Will Teese

I would love to go, but i have class until 8pm, CB, how long do you think this meeting will last, i’d hate to show up after class and the meeting be over. Any thoughts from anyone else?

  44. 44 bergie20

somebody should publicy bring up at the meeting the fact that the toh apparently ordered dissenters to go to this meeting. put them on the spot in the public forum. i would have some respect for murray if she showed up and trashed this project. at least she’d be honest and available. she’s just being a total coward with no leadership ability by not showing up. if you can’t lead you should not hold public office.

  45. 45 thor

Let’s go Isles !!! Let’s go Lighthouse Project !!! I will be there with bells on.

  46. 46 -Big Van Vader

I’m not a TOH resident, but I fully support this project. There is absolutely no reason Kate Murray shouldn’t be there on the 26th. Alot of people were stating earlier on in this process that we shouldn’t “get on” her and that she “wasn’t really the reason” that this wouldn’t go through.
Well, more and more it becomes fairly apparent that that’s not the case. It seems to indeed be JUST that.

    Kate Murray is the problem.

Show up, Kate. Take a stance.

  47. 47 Vinny

Murray was in renting movies again yesterday. Her selections:

    Nick and Norah’s infinite playlist
    Synecdoche, New York
    Transporter 3

  48. 48 Willis

I agree that if Murray has legitimate concerns about this project she should make them known. How is keeping silent helping. Isn’t she an elected official who’s responsibility is to oversee her town and consequently, make sure she dots every I and crosses every T so that her constituents can feel confident that she is trying to do the best thing for them? If I were a TOH resident and went to the meeting and found that she (or my other councilpeople) wasn’t there, I would be pretty pissed. Take a stand, Woman!

  49. 49 WildcatChris

CB, please get us solid proof that the TOH is telling dissenters to show up. Find us a copy of the e-mail or transcription of the phone call that was sent to the dissenters. We need to expose this at the meeting and have legitimate proof showing how corrupt and wrong the TOH is in doing all of this. The media will think these people showed up on their own volition…

  50. 50 mtrico

I am currently planning to attend, either by myself, or with one friend. In attending the meeting, I hope to get a read on the Town of Hempstead’s position. If it is true that the town is in fact attempting to organize opposition to the project, I am not optimistic. Additionally, if Murray does not attend this meeting, it is clear to me that she needs to be voted out come November.

  51. 51 matty the usher

While i agree with the notion that we should “represent LI not the isles” because of the way it will look. (Artificially expanding the actual people that care about this project) it’s a tad depressing to ne marginalized this way…i.e having to pretend that we’re “real, important people and not those crazy hockey fans” should be offensive to us (the crazy hockey fans) and deep down probably is…. Luckily we’re so desperate for this team to stay here that we’re willing to whore ourselves out! Damn, this story ends with another 4 Cups in a row and there will HAVE to be a movie about it.

  52. 52 Chickendirt

I can’t wait till this Lighthouse thing is overwith so the ficus is on hockey. It really is a great game without all the politics….lol.

  53. 53 19 ISLE in NJ 22

I can’t commit to be there yet. Our playoff games are on Tuesday and Thursday nights … if we’re in the losing bracket going into next Thursday our game will be 10pm and I might be able to squeeze in a trip to Nassau.

Either way … I’ll be thinking of all of you … and as always pumping up the local hockey fan base to support us. Even Ranger fans that would hate to see the Isles move.

  54. 54 jon

    CB,
What would a possible Murray absence mean, in the scope of things?

  55. 55 d-man

the fact that they are encouraging dissent and murray is queen of the no-shows… i can’t see how anyone thinks this thing is going to pass outside of wang waiting till after the election to see if she gets defeated. i can’t be there since i am 2,826 miles away but i hope it’s total chaos

  56. 56 19 ISLE in NJ 22

Just read all the posts … As a middle of the road politically leaning person … I would be appauled if I was a resident of the TOH and Kate Murray didn’t show up. She is a representitive of the people of the town, and the most important project for the town’s future is at the center of debate. Ms. Murray as the lead executive of the town should be the most visible person at any Light House meeting.

To think that on July 4th 1776 our continental congress put their own necks (literally) on the line as representatives of the American people for such a simple right we take for granted at times … and that is to voice dissent without pursacution. Shame on Kate Murray if she doesn’t show up, and instead recruits minions of desenters to show up instead.

  57. 57 NYI FAN

Just wondering, what do they charge to park this season at the Marriot, 25 bucks? heh, heh! Seriously, as an ex-nimby who moved away,if I showed, it would not be as a supporter. Lets Go Islanders!

  58. 58 John Keitz

I wish I could be there, but I am one of the many who have moved away from Long Island due to the lack of opportunities that the Lighthouse would provide for young people. I left in 1995 for Nevada (a state which knows something about growth) and I have never looked back!

    Kate Murray is a disgrace!

  59. 59 JayK

Tom — #35 — I just have to respond to your allegation that Wang has “been a hermit” and has only operated in his comfort zone.

He has attended numerous public meetings. Last June, he came to a meeting in our town hosted by Rich Nicolello, one of two legislators to vote against awarding Wang/Rexcorp the right to develop the property. So basically, he was going right into a meeting hosted by one of his enemies.

As far as showing up at a hotel surrounded by friends: first of all, he invited Kate Murray. And secondly, given that the opponents of this have been so disorganized that they haven’t put together a single event, what event was he supposed to show up at?

  60. 60 West Coast Fan

This has probably been brought up before… but is there a reason why Charles couldn’t (or wouldn’t) purchase a full-page ad in Newsday - not necessarily as a proponent of the project, but to make all Long Island residents aware of the meeting? Not just for the sake of project awareness, but to call Kate Murray out on the fact that if she repeatedly fails to attend discussions reagrding what is arguably the most important Long Island developmental project in decades, that she should no longer be allowed to hold the office she currently holds come November?

Judging from the reactions above, her ignoring these events is considered by virtually everyone to be an egregious shirking of responsibility - and it would seem that those against the project would probably feel the same way…

  61. 61 Mike

If Kate Murray doesn’t show up I think we can conclude that this deal is not going to get done. It just won’t get the support it needs from the TOH. Doesn’t matter what her motivations are in the end.

My only hope is that the Isles relocate to Queens and not some other state. I’ve been an Isles fan all my life, since growing up watching them with my Grandmother and listening to her curse at the TV when they weren’t hustling enough.

I’ll literally may have to stop watching hockey. I will still play of course but just won’t be able to watch any of the local teams I’ve spent so many years hating!!

  62. 62 HyeDray

I am fairly certain that Hempstead officials will balk at the meeting. They will send in there place, willing “arrow-takers,” to suffer the barrage of jeers that will come from the Islanders fans in attendance.

It seems clear that Hempstead officials are playing some kind of political game with Mr. Wang, and Mr. Rechler, along with County Executive Suozzi. Perhaps there are some feelings of “we won’t work with them…” from Ms. Murray and her Town Board who I believe are Republicans. The County Executive, a Democrat and the County Legislature is controlled by a majority of Democrats. Could it be a giant pissing contest? It could very well be.

Murray, a republican does not want to see Suozzi, a democrat and the democratic legislature, get credit for creating thousands of construction jobs, hundreds of affordable housing units, and thousands of new jobs created by the businesses at the Lighthouse. Further, the Lighthouse would become a potential destination for a variety of sports-related events and affairs, as well as a business center that could attract conferences and seminars, thus creating an even great economic stimulus for all of Long Island. Ms. Murray is behaving for her own great good, and political patrons greater good—not the peoples.

This is not, and should not be a case of Democrat v. Republican. I have been a political activist. There are some issues that transcend the political muck, and this is one of them. It is not because of my lock of the sport, or desire to see the Islanders remain here. This is good policy, good business and good sense. It benefits the people of Long Island, the hockey team, the owners of the team, the fans, and the business community—all while paying very close attention to the environmental impact, and the nature of all factors involved like traffic.

Ms. Murry will stay away because she does not have a valid argument. “…it will turn Nassau County into the 6th boro of New York City…” did not fly in the last County Executive election, and it wont fly on the 26th. That is the only valid argument Ms. Murray and Joe Ra, Hempstead Town Attorney, have.

I hope the good people of Hempstead do the right thing and vote Ms. Murray out of office. Not because she is against the New York Islanders. But because she is a short-sighted person, who has no concept about job creation, and the economic well-being of her town’s citizens. clearly the people of Hempstead deserve better.

  63. 63 art

CB This a PR opportunity for you. It’s your speciality! I think the media should be informed and leaned on what ever that means even the NYC crowd which controlls a lot of it. Call in your favors. Don’t assume that the nyc crowd is not interested. Long Island folks still get most of their TV-Print-radio stuff from thes sources. A guy like Larry Brooks is widely read all over the area.

  64. 64 admin

    A few thoughts…

    (63) is that under 100 words?

Thank you to everyone for keeping this civil so far.

    (35) To my friend Tom: I think you have a lot of good ideas, especially about the selling of the project to more than the converted.

But I believe there’s one thing you seem to forget: the project, against in some people’s view some mighty odds, was approved 16-2 by the County after the RFP process. The TOH is actually the final hurdle, albeit a very large one. Sometimes your Comments come off as if the developers are starting from scratch in winning support. Other than that, thanks for the passionate contributions.

    (61) The meeting is still a week away. For all we know, the developers do plan to purchase an ad promoting the meeting.

    (64) Art: That’s not my place anymore. The developers have a PR team. I just scribble on this little weblog…CB

  65. 65 Robbo

God bless ya, Long Island. As a die-hard Isles fan at a distance (an 8 hour drive away in Burlington, ONTARIO), I cannot attend. But know I’ll be there in spirit and I read each Lighthouse update on PB and elsewhere with anticipation, and more frequently, disappointment, disallusionment and disgust. You guys have so much more on the line…not only is it your team, but its in your backyard!

  66. 66 OhNoItsComeau57

I really can’t stand this woman any more. She is playing such political games. If you oppose it have the stones to say that you oppose it. Its absolutely shameful when you think that Long Islands only Pro sports team as well as thousands of jobs and millions in tax revenue are being jeopardized for this idiot’s political career. She doesn’t want it on her record that she approved it but she also doesn’t want it on there that she was against it. And who suffers for this career management? All of her constituents as well as Islander fans and the County of Nassau. It to me is infuriating.

  67. 67 OhNoItsComeau57

Sorry I think I just slipped over 100, but I am pretty heated over this.

  68. 68 Mattnice

Incredible that the TOH is actually telling people who disagree with the Lighthouse to go. Guess we know where they stand. Why do I feel like we are all just pissing in the wind here? Start looking into other options Wang! I unfortunately am scheduled for a double rotation that day so I will not be able to attend.

  69. 69 mrlbem

There are three “Towns” in Nassau County–North Hempstead, Hempstead and Oyster Bay. All three Town Supervisors are up for re-election this November. I’m an acquaintance of one of the other Town Supervisors as we live in the same community and belong to the same house of worship. I was speaking with him last weekend about Town business and switched gears to talk about the County and the Lighthouse and asked him why Kate opposes the project. His reaction was that within three months, not only will she be on board with the Lighthouse, but she will be trying to take credit for it. I don’t see this happening, but my friend knows her well and certainly knows local politics very well. If I were Rechler and Wang, I would be happy to have her take some of the credit for this. We shall see.

  70. 70 HyeDray

Sorry about the length of the post Chris—I will curb it to 100 words from now on. I know I wont be able to make it, and am so angered by the situation with the TOH. My apologies to all.

  71. 71 Chris TMC

WildcatChris (49): Honestly if they do show up it WILL be of their own volition… sending an email to potential dissenters is not forcing them to do anything! That being said, I am confident that, if there WAS some kind of organized opposition to this project, they would have said something and made themselves known by now. That being said, I honestly welcome intelligent words of opposition… because it is only by hearing those points that informed advocates can counter their arguments, put their fears to rest, and hopefully garner their support for the lighthouse project.

  72. 72 Chris TMC

mrlbem (70): That is really interesting. Like you, I would be happy to give her credit for this project- lets hope she stands up for it and gets it done, then I will prove it!

Who are these dissenters that Murray is representing? Why haven’t we seen anything planted in Newsday yet if an opposition existed? I called and asked her office this and of course got no response. What a great public servant we have at TOH! The handling of this by Murray is so bizarre, I really don’t understand it at all. She has lost my vote forever no matter what she does now. I hope David Denenberg runs against her in November. I WILL BE THERE THURSDAY!!!

  74. 74 Pat

They pick the one night this month when I am out of town :(

All I want out of this - is for the various entities ( Lighthouse team, T.O.H., the County and others who want to be accounted for ) to PUT THEIR CARDS on the table and get some sort of clarity on who is for and who is the roadblock.

I want the TOWN OF HEMPSTEAD to face the music and make a credible “up or down” comment on the matter.

  75. 75 vigs

Someone living in the TOH should send an email to Kate Murray and masquerade themselves as dissenter of this project. Ask what can be done to stop this project from happening and see if you get a response. If she actually does respond, no matter what that response is, it will prove she is trying to find other dissenters and possibly mobilize them. I, like many others, left the Island a long time ago, so she could care less about my concerns.

  76. 76 Joe

I really think all of thess delay tactics are taking their toll from the TOH. We still have one big hurdle left. Murray is really demonstrating that she has absolutely NO leadership skills to handle the complexity of this project. She must be voted out in November! Most of the posts on the blog state the Isles should move to queens, I really do not see that as a viable option, Wang will be moving this team quickly to either KC or Hamilton if this deal does not get approved by the end of Summer. I also live out of state but would bre there if I still lived in Hicksville!

  77. 77 christian

cb..what exactly is going to go on at this outreach event? I want to attend but am curiouse what exactly will be going on there.

  78. 78 303Joe

    I’ll be there with one.

  79. 79 Blizzard

It just doesnt seem comprehensable to me that the Islanders will move out of the area. I would be heartbroken……I am a big local sports guy and I root for all NY teams except the Rangers. Because Hockey is my favorite sport and The Islanders are my favorite team. Snce I was 10 years old. Thats 1977. What would happen to the banners? Would they stay with the team? Has a Stanley Cup winner ever moved? The team that holds the record for the most consecutive playoff series won?

Just cant comprehend this… If I was there and someone started voiceing an opinion against TLH i might attack them.

    Being honest here….

    kmurray@tohmail.org

You know what to do with this ;-))

  81. 81 Swan

Plan to be there. Just myself, for now.

  82. 82 Frank

CB: I plan on going myself.

  83. 83 Chris TMC

State ones belief in the Lighthouse project, then politely ask her to come and show her support? That is certainly what Id HOPE people would do with that.

  84. 84 Erika

I’d love to go but don’t know if I’ll make it. I’s love to meet all the bigwigs involved in person but probably wouldn’t talk. Is it true that it’s $25 to park at the Mariott?? I can probably walk there from work but I’d get there possibly 2 hours early. As I’ve said,to those who are going, BE VOCAL but not classless!!

  85. 85 Gary

I’ll be there with my wife. We hope that we can make clear the fact that her constituents NEED this project, for the economic boost it will provide the county at a time when we really need it. I also hope to find someone to run for TOH Supervisor against the corrupt Republicans that have been running the town for far too long.

  86. 86 Outraged

The TOH politicians not only have shown no ability to lead when it comes to the Lighthouse being built, but TOH workers contracts are up and there hasn’t been any progress made on a new deal either. It makes me wonder, what is it that these politicians are doing? Shouldnt contracts for workers and economic stimulus projects be high on the list of priorities? I must be missing something?

  87. 87 Jim Clark

The only way I’ll go is if the Honorable Kate Murray does. Been a long time since I’ve seen a circus. Think I’ll stay at home and watch hockey on TV because in 2015 that’s all there will be, How exactly is the Lighthouse suppose to “generate jobs and revenues” when New York State is the second worst place for businesses? Even if this thing is built and well-occupied (without hurting surrounding places), why should we think Nassau County and TOH will spend the money wisely?

  88. 88 Pat

I will be there along with my wife. This is too important to miss. Kate Murray doesn’t have the guts to show up. I hope I’m wrong but I doubt it. I really hope that the residents of the TOH realize that Ms. Murray should be voted out of office in November.

  89. 89 gary

i agree regarding wearing islander clothing–The more that show that look like ordinary people with no bias because of their passion for the Isles will be better–So dont wear anything islanders–The politicians are more concerned for the majority which means most of Nassau County voters and the Isles fans are a smaller base

  90. 90 Sean

Suozzi on boomers show sometime this morning. Boomer is a big supporter.

  91. 91 matt c

I will def be there..go wang, go!

  92. 92 matt c

Chris you owe it to us to tell us who at the TOH is looking for negative support…

  93. 93 Eric

Only heard the tail end of Suozzi but he definitely was in favor (as was Boomer).

    It’s already on FAN’s website:

  94. 94 Marc N.

I live in Suffolk but I will be there to let the ToH know that I spend a lot of $ in their town, and if they don’t approve this, I won’t spend another nickel in it.

  95. 95 TimQ

I will be there possibly with a friend.

Does anyone have a copy of the ‘alleged’ emails seeking dissenters?

  96. 96 IslesPassion21

Kate Murray’s excuse for not attending a meeting to discuss the merits of the Lighthouse project is lame…He is a coward.

  97. 97 IslesPassion21

CB, why are my posts from earlier not posting?

  98. 98 IslesPassion21

I just got off the phone with Mr. Murray’s secretary and she said they were getting allot of phone calls regarding the TOH outreach meeting. I was told to fax a letter with my concerns and info. Keep flooding the phones, faxes, emails. “The Greasy wheel gets the oil”.
    Meet me at the Lighthouse!!!

  99. 99 thor

Does anyone have the office # to K. Murray????

  100. 100 Chris TMC
