BOSTON at NYI, 5:05 pm: Happy Easter!
Trevor up, Fritz down; Talk about the game here

by admin on April 12th, 2009 at 1:07 pm

Islanders didn’t rough-house yesterday (14 credited hits, no fights), so perhaps they’ll go quietly again today. Trevor Smith is here. Mitch Fritz sent to The Bridge. Talk about the game here, Lottery in next thread. I’ll have a post-game story. Happy Easter!

  1. avatar Frei says:

Thank god it ends today. Now get Tavares or haul stakes.

  2. avatar Joe says:

Boston plays tough, Lucic/Thornton/Bitz, I would expct a few hits at least.

  3. avatar UNH Steve says:

Happy Easter to you too CB, keep the blog alive and strong this offseason pleaseeee

  4. avatar Kevin Fitz says:

Happy Easter to you CB and to all the pointblank faithful

  5. avatar Pd says:

happy easter cb. Tavares needs to be Long Island bound. and good to see trevor smith back with the isles.

  6. avatar Alex says:

Gotta love that the season finale is being shown on the TV Guide channel, and not in HD….I really hope that changes next year.

  7. avatar Steve says:

Happy Easter, Chris! It is true, this team keeps us holding our collective breath no matter what position they are in!

  8. avatar Coach B says:

Happy Easter Chris to you and your family. Normally I hate the end of the season, I’m not much of a baseball fan but for the Islanders, it is kind of a relief that it’s over. Believe it or not, I enjoyed this season better than the recent Islander teams that finnished 8th and had no shot to win a play-off round. Next year begins Tuesday night.

  9. avatar Warren says:

Happy Easter Islander Fans and you too CB well the season is over onward to a great year next year when we will be part of the “Hunt for the Cup” Keep the faith fans with a couple new players and a new captain (Streit) we will be the talk of the league next year(09-10)

  10. avatar Mike from Philly says:

Well the another season comes to an end in Islander Country, depeding on what happens on Tuesday it could be the best thing to happen to us since the 4th Cup.

    Tavares!!

  11. avatar 19 Isle in NJ 22 says:

Alex (6) if that is the case then I’m going to be blacked out at work.

I have ONE hope to see this game … we are doing a feed for NESN with the description “OVERFLOW PATH” … hopefully the B’s are on the overflow. Right now I’m a seeing B-sox highlight show on that circuit so who knows. Keep good notes guys … I may be relying on you all to get info on the game.

    Happy Easter again all.

  12. avatar Jesse D (aka jessedlovesnyi) says:

Thanks for this season Botta. you made it a little easier.

  13. avatar Staten Islander says:

Happy Easter to you all, and here’s hoping for a giant step toward our favorite hockey team’s ressorection next week. (excuse my spelling, I’m the posterchild for spellcheck)

  14. avatar The Real Vukota says:

I have tix to the game but wouldn’t mind just watching at home. Once I saw the game wasn’t in HD that made my chocie that much easier. I’ll be there!!!!

  15. avatar 19 Isle in NJ 22 says:

Well … I have a feeling the overflow game I’m going to get from Boston in the Sox not the Bruins… ughhh … I’ll be getting my play by play from you guys.

  16. avatar big jim says:

on my way to the game now hope there is a nice crowd today hopefully the recker will take care of lucic

  17. avatar Paul says:

Happy Easter to all and i hope the islanders win to end on a positive note.
Thanks for a very informitive season CB, you kept us all in the game…….thanks.

  18. avatar FiOS Help says:

Does anyone know what channel the Islander games is on via Verizon FiOS? All I see listed is the Rangers and the Knicks.

  19. avatar SIR WILLIAM says:

A bit off topic today but, three cheers for our Navy Seals. Great job today in rescuing the hostage and killing or capturing those “pirates”.
Normally, I am just to the right of Gehghis Kahn politically, but today I take my hat off to President Obama who had to give the order to go. Nice to see the President stand up and tell the world we’re not gonna take it. Happy Easter, Mr. President.

Somewhere Stephen Decatur and William Bainbridge are smiling today..
How ironic is it that the USS Bainbridge was the ship to rescue Capt. Phillips?

    God bless our troops………….Sir William

  20. avatar JPinVA says:

Happy Easter, and thanks for a all of your hard work this year CB. You really made a terrible Islander season interesting.

  21. avatar frank says:

Can we please trade the 30th and 31st pick for a top 15 pick.

  22. avatar Chris A says:

Happy Easter CB congrats on finishing season 1 of PB here’s hoping it’s only the beginning

  23. avatar d-man says:

good idea frank (#20)… i’m sure that snow will get right on that. should be easy.

  24. avatar 19 Isle in NJ 22 says:

OK … got ALL my work done for the rest of the afternoon. So I’m intime for the game … Thank God we are doing the Bruins / Isles’ overflow game for NESN or I’d be blacked out.

    (18) Here Here SW!!! A Happy Easter for Captain Phillips and the US Navy. I hope this at leasts shuts the door on some of that BS for a while.
    *********
It’s a GO for KO to get the BIG 2-0 (20 goals) tonight.

  25. avatar HNLI Alex says:

Thanks for the great work on the blog this season CB. Can’t wait for Tuesday!

  26. avatar DP says:

Happy Easter CB, thanks for making this season so much fun, hope it is only the beginning — -I would love to see us win today, but win or lose I’m looking forward to Tuesday and Next season

  27. avatar 19 Isle in NJ 22 says:

These Boston announcers are J/O’s … they are using every opportunity to rip the Isles … chuckling about being a last place team … “.. we’re not talking about a 40 win team here … ha ha ha ha..” Ehhhhhh Go Scratch!!!

  28. avatar 19 Isle in NJ 22 says:

OK .. this Boston guy is weird. He just said he’s going to miss calling games at NVMC this close to the ice since “they” are going to re-do the arena. This guy doesn’t realize it’s going to take at least 3 more years before his announcer chair moves … where ever that may be.

  29. avatar Ed from Philly says:

I’m thankful the Center Ice package has the MSG broadcast today.

  30. avatar 19 Isle in NJ 22 says:

Yeah Ed… I actually miss Howie Rose … he’s at least knowledgeable and has a sense of humor … just sick of him fawning over that Egg’s Levine street hockey guy he has fawned over …

I’m watching the game at work though … so it’s not like I have a choice … I work in TV and we are carrying NESN’s HD overflow … so I put it up on the satellite so that Boston fans can get their B’s.

  31. avatar alex says:

    happy easter CB!

  32. avatar alex says:

btw anybody else notice that the lighthouse website isnt working?

  33. avatar Kevin Fitz says:

i am sure its just a technical issue alex

  34. avatar Staten Islander says:

is it me or do they look like they’re mailing it in today?

  35. avatar AZS says:

I don’t know about “mailing it in” …I think it’s more a case of a young team that’s been giving it a good go since the trade deadline playing the best team in the East whose trying to head in to the playoffs on a positive note …that being said …I just hope no one gets hurt …

  36. avatar Outside says:

the wrecker needs to get out htere and take a run at one of their key guys and teach boston that we will not take their running up the score crap in a meaningless.. they shouldnt even be playing half their team today… the wrecker needs to get sent out there and take a run…

  37. avatar isles99 says:

i was hoping for 3 out of 4 points this weekend but this is atrocious. cant wait till tavares tuesday baby!!!!

  38. avatar Staten Islander says:

I realize that there is a huge difference between us and the Bruins, but something is definetly lacking.

  39. avatar Brother Rat says:

Listening on the web, and this is another ridiculous game…..now Chris & Steve just brought up Dave Chyzowski. The Bs have a really talented team, and they’ve been playing like a team all season.

    Ho ho, 5-1!

I wonder if the fans are getting more Kozy Shack for this game. Maybe Maalox instead?

  40. avatar d-man says:

let’s hope dp is healthy next year… but healthy or not… they can not bring back either one of these 2… i’m sorry but they need a real goalie to back him up and be ready to take over just in case. and i won’t feel safe with dp until after at least 1 solid year of no major injuries. i wish we could get some sort of honest third party update.

  41. avatar isles99 says:

if the islanders keep danis and macdonald (if DP is stillout) they will surely be in the running for the taylor hall sweepstakes next year.

  42. avatar Justin says:

I love this team, but any talk of a playoff spot next season is just insane. Especially when the GM says the roster is going to look very much like it did this season.

  43. avatar avolp55turgeonfichaud says:

Here’s to the end of a long, long season. CB thanks for your support and dedicated work throughout this treacherous campaign. Ill be an islander fan forever just hoping ill be alive long enough to see them win one

  44. avatar Ed from Philly says:

I’m really enjoying the hockey talk between Howie, Billy, and Butch.

  45. avatar walter says:

Thank you Chris Botta, For everything this season

  46. avatar Kevin Fitz says:

A tough season but a necessary season for the long term success of this franchise (wherever they end up playing). the first or second pick, another late first round pick and 3 second round picks. The long term success of this franchise took a major step forward this year even though it is tough to see when they finish last overall. Good job all around by the young guys, the veterans, Scott Gordon and Garth Snow. Already counting down to next season!

  47. avatar MT says:

I thought that was great of Park to address the crowd at the end. I can’t believe we have to wait until September/October!

  48. avatar mrlbem says:

I left after the second period. What did Park say? By the way, I thought it was a terrible job by the Organization today. This was supposed to be Fan Appreciation Weekend. Although there were giveaways yesterday, the only giveaways today were one or two items that went unclaimed yesterday. Either acquire enough giveaways for both days or parse them out so people at both games go home with prizes. Really, anyone who says this organization is fan friendly hasn’t experienced a true fan friendly organization.

  49. avatar Coach B says:

    Countdown-48 hours until the lottery.

  50. avatar Isles08025 says:

Pittsburgh gets the 4 seed … I step closer to a third rounder for BG

  51. avatar Joe fred va says:

Well one Islander that was a non factor in the second half was Hunter. I know he was hurt but he is going to have to step it up next year! Thanks CB for making this year easier. I still think you could beat Nurray for TOH SUP!! :)

  52. avatar Staten Islander says:

Can’t help but agree with what Howie and Billy were saying about this summer being a watershed for this team. Hopefully a better season next year.

i also want to wish you all and CB and all you Pointblankers happy Easter.

Believe it or not, even after such a difficult year, its gonna be tough to go from pucks and sticks to bats and balls. I might need an intervention

  53. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

That was just an old fashioned schooling!

The Isles could land both Tavares and Hedman and still not make the playoffs next year. The goaltending fairy has left the building. The Isles need more than a few good draft picks … they need a high octane development system. Sculpt these diamonds in the rough into hidden gems.

Bailey IMO needs some Bridge time … I think the kid is talented with a fantastic attitude … but his trial by fire only burned him … he gets points because he gets ice time … I see to many hail mary passes to set up plays … throwing the puck towards the net hoping for a play.

He just needs seasoning and he’ll be fine … perhaps bring him back up in December just like Comeau this past year.

  54. avatar Lorne says:

At the end of the game when the players gave their jerseys off the back, where was our prima donna Dipi. What a piece of crap, why could not even show up. Man hope this guy never comes back. I really despise him as I am sure many of us Isles fans do.

  55. avatar Marc says:

Real lousy job by Time Warner Cable to pull the plug on the post-game show. What a joke.

Anyway, CB, thanks again for all you’ve done to give us die-hards this blog!

To all of the fans out there, it’s very likely going to be a few more years of hard knocks which hopefully will pay off for many years to come. In 48 hours, the process (hopefully) takes it’s next big step!

  56. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

CB~ Just wanted to take the time to thank you for getting us through a very very trying season … I’m not sure how most of us would of felt if we were staring at a bottom 20 – 25 finish instead of worst.

All I know is that it was much more palletable getting through this season together … I guess kinda like group therapy. LOL!!

Happy Easter again CB … and everyone else too …

I look forward to your next installment on Point Blank … and will blog with ya’s all live during Tuesday’s lottery.

  57. avatar Travelchic59 says:

Happy Easter to you and yours CB, and to all you PB posters.

I love my team, but I must admit I am glad this season has finally come to an end. Keeping my fingers crossed that Tuesday brings good news.

  58. avatar mLemb says:

What I am looking forward to next year is having 3 first round picks inserted into the lineup that we didn’t have this year.
Tavares/Hedman, San Jose’s pick, and Ricky DiPietro…with those 3 coming in to aid Okposo and Bailey I just have to believe that this franchise can turn around real quick.
This is of course not to mention all of the other prospects we have(Bergie, Comeau, Nielsen) as well as the returning vets(Streit, Witt, Hunter, and Weight). Time to start counting down the days till camp.
