Garth should have worked out a 2nd rd pick for a Stanley Cup Finals appearance and a 1st rd pick if Pitt won the Cup. Bill Guerin has been a very instrumental player for Pitt. At this point, a 3rd rounder ain’t cuttin’ it. Hopefully, the Ducks can put away the Sharks tonight and we end up with the 26th pick. Jankowski needs to draft another Lucic for us.

There is really no need to move up in the first round unless someone from the top six or seven slips down to the mid to latter part of the first round. Keep in mind these are 18 year old and most after the first few will not be expected to play in the NHL next year. These players should be drafted on potential and developed properly. I know it is hard to have patience being with an organization that has had to wait so long, but it is a necessary part of building.

To Clarify the trade, if the Penguins win the Stanley Cup the Isles pick #92..If they lose the Cup, 91st, if they get to Conference Finals, 89th & 90th…If the Penguins lose in the 2nd rd, the pick would be in the 84-87 range…..The Rangers have the 47th overall pick(Compensary for Cheraponov) so the 2nd rd is 1 pick longer than usual….So we need Pittsburgh to lose in the 2nd rd.

CB pointed out something that some of us seem to forget … Billy G was pulled from the lineup right during a pre-game skate … when that deal fell through his value declined not because of his ability … but due to the Isles’ desperation to unload him and save face.

I too wish the Isles could get a 2nd rounder for him … but realistically he wasn’t even putting up numbers to justify a straight up #3 rounder the last 6 weeks before the trade… Snow got what he could considering the odd circumstances … and I guess I can be happy with what we got considering.

I stayed up last night to see the Sharks knock off the Ducks about 6 minutes into OT, on one of those goals I hate: there’s a mad scramble around the net and in all the craziness the puck gets across the line, seemingly on just the vibrations of all that traffic (though Hiller helped).

OK, back to Anaheim in pursuit of that 26th pick.

Blizzard (21): I agree with you- but I think that they wished they maded it then, too. I think it was that they just couldnt move the right players/salary to ultimately make it happen.

The Pens (and admittedly, the Devs) are the teams in our division that actually show the Isles some respect… players like Marty and Malkin have said good things about Isles players and the teams work ethic. I wish Guerin nothing but the best. Ive always liked the guy and its nice to see him being an important part of that team. Since the Isles arent there in the PO’s I say go for it, Billy!

(28) Nielsen doesn’t become expendable, and Tavares won’t play regularly in the middle anyway. Just a year ago Nielsen was projected to be a 3rd line center with 2nd line potential, but it wasn’t out of the question he’d start on the 4th line. Nielsen’s contract is also really good value for money to the Islanders, so I just don’t see any point in moving him unless someone is desperate to overpay for him in a trade. He’s also a Gordon favorite.

Thus far I gotta say Snow is looking really shrewd. Pittsburgh goes to the 2nd round giving us another third. It’s a low third but it’s a third.

Anaheim is on the brink of a major upset over San Jose. A Pick everyone thought was gonna be 29th-30th turns out to be a 26th.

Heading into the draft the best trade made here is the one you don’t make. Keep all the picks and hold the line. It’s not worth packaging 3-4 picks to move up and grab one guy.

Go with the averages and build some depth. You can get a good player in any round. Mark Streit is living proof of that.
