Talk about the game here

  1. avatar Matt says:

Kevin, I think I ran track with you at Syosset.

  2. avatar Bob says:

I don’t know about y’all but I’m hoping for a very hard-fought game tonight. I’d love a complete effort from the kids, a couple scraps from the Recker, another cameo from Witter on the PP, and most of all, a 4-3 loss. As long as it ain’t in OT. Don’t you go for that point Gordo. Don’t you do it.

  3. avatar Magnus says:

    Complete roster for tonight? Anyone?

  4. Magnus:
    No Streit or Bergie.
Go Tambo, score 2 for us.

  5. avatar Isles316 says:

Joey MacDonald will probably steal this one too. Can Colorado win?

  6. avatar SteveK says:

CAN TAMPA WIN A GAME… EVER!??

  7. avatar Kevin Fitz says:

Forget Tampa Steve, worry about Colorado

  8. avatar Yanks26 says:

Isles316, Tankorado isn’t trying to win. They haven’t won in almost 3 weeks. They’re doing the best they can to catch the Isles

  9. avatar Isles316 says:

Tampa is an absolute joke. I hate that organization. They just won a cup and now they suck every year with two of the best players in the league?

A lot of idiots called for them to be good this season. Did anyone look at their goaltending and defense? I just don’t get it.

  10. avatar Ari from Long Island says:

    Re: post 10

I agree with you!! How the hell can they suck so bad after winning the cup a few years ago and still having 2 superstars on their team!!??

And how the hell can Colorado after years of winning and winning suck so bad????

They DON’T DESERVE the number one pick!!!!!

Screw them!! It’s ours!! We deserve this!!

  11. avatar Jim says:

TB has a good goalie, their defense is awful. They basically traded Dan Boyle for Steve Eminger, and people think Snow is bad.

  12. avatar Stephen McEwan says:

I’d really like to see Okposo notch a hat trick before the end of the season… I wouldn’t mind seeing it tonite. That being said Coloardo really needs to start winning some games. They stink at a ridcolous level. Hope your enjoying your time there Smyth

  13. avatar Islander505 says:

    Tampa Bay is off today.
Colorado (7 straight losses) is hosting PHX tonight.
505 will be tuned into that and will offer a tank assessment following that epic matchup.

  14. avatar Isles316 says:

I will join you 505 and we can compare notes.

Also, I’m half watching the pregame show. Is this an Isles pregame show or a Capitals pregame show?

  15. avatar Islander505 says:

I’m picking Colorado in my ESPN “streak for a million”.
THEY BETTER come through for me.
In other news “Kiss Me” Kate Murray has an appointment to get her nails done at the Mondello House of Wacks.

  16. avatar Islander505 says:

I’ve got Center Ice 316—no pre game shows. Just there drolling monotonous music until 5PM game time

  17. avatar Isles316 says:

haha. well the Isles pre-game did a thing basically on Mike Green and for 10 minutes it was like behind the scenes capitals coverage.

  18. avatar Islander505 says:

Speaking of tanking….I WILL say that Streit’s groin “strain” is very nicely timed.

  19. avatar cgs878 says:

Here’s hoping for an OT game in Colorado tonight. Give those Avs a point already! While I’m not rooting against the Islanders, I will say this: I hope Ovechkin, Semin, and Green have a good game tonight too. Heh.

  20. avatar admin says:

    @1 – I think you’re probably right… Hertz is that you?

  21. avatar Islander505 says:

I think it’s time to “activate” my refrigerator door and “engage” some of the contents.

  22. avatar Pat says:

Hey Kevin, what’s your take on all this Lighthouse BS.

  23. 505 – Spend your day watching Star Trek?

  24. avatar Cruicky says:

I hope Joey stands on his friggin head and get a second shutout. That would be awesome.

  25. avatar admin says:

@Pat – It’s really, really frustrating for me at this point. If you or Kate Murray or whomever doesn’t like the project, that’s fine. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion. I have two main problems with what’s going on 1) that’s it’s being dragged out so long (if you don’t like it, just say so and deny Wang and his group) and 2) that this is very different from the usual ‘sports team desires new arena’ situation.

Many times, a team owner tries to hold a city/county/populace hostage. Many times, they threaten to move if a city/county/populace doesn’t foot the bill for a new arena. Wang & Co. are pledging the majority of the money and have, publicly, been very good about the whole thing. Figures that the Islanders would be in the rare situation of the team being the good guy and local government holding the fans hostage.

  26. avatar Scott D. says:

Tampa is proof that getting your hands on one great player — do I even have to say his name? — is far less important than building a balanced team that does what it takes to win. This team is heading in the right direction as far as that is concerned.

  27. avatar jon from nj says:

To make this an awful day, we will undoubtedly win this game, and bring ourselves within 4 points of the next team above us. Awesome.

  28. avatar RobsIsles says:

Bailey in front of the net. Kyle scores. The kid is learning and growing up right in front of us. Hey Colorado just win at least one more time this year. We earned that 1st pick.

  29. avatar Isles316 says:

Kevin, it’s a joke. I’ve been thinking about it on and off today and I feel that the administration is doing the residents a huge disservice. It’s obvious they are just incompitent.
This project is what our president is calling for to help the economy.

  30. avatar admin says:

Yeah, that’s the other thing. You would think a plan that would put so many people to work in our current environment would be fast tracked.

  31. avatar Pat says:

Kevin, I agree with everything you said. I think it’s an absolute crime to see what is happening with this project. I’ve never heard of a situation like this, where the owner is footing the bill and now the TOH is asking for stimulus money. What’s next.

  32. avatar Scott D. says:

Even the good teams left on the schedule will have little motivation when the Isles play them. Meanwhile, whether we like it or not, the Isles are killing themselves out there to win these games. At worst the Isles will likely gain 7 more points, possibly more. And as we’ve all seen, if Tampa or Colorado get any more points, I’d be shocked.

  33. avatar Staten Islander says:

If katie wants to use stimulus money, why not use it to build a rail link to the lighthouse? makes sense?

  34. avatar Pat says:

Yea, that’s why it won’t happen.

  35. avatar BR says:

What I don’t understand is some supporters calling for the LH to be scaled-back, because the size of the project is what Murray et al object to. The problem is that Murray and TOH have never raised the scope of the project as an issue, aside from saying things along the lines of “it’s a massive proposal and will take time to review.”

Wang has said several times recently that he’d be willing to consider any specific changes TOH has in mind, but that he needs a YES or a NO to the overall project. Instead of acting in a professional manner and addressing the request, all we get from Murray and the TOH are these games. Shame.

  36. avatar Islander505 says:

Brian in Massapequa (my old home btw-North),
I was referring (activate and engage)to the convo that Jaffe and Rose were having at the start of the game.

After that KO goal I went to the liquor cabinet to celebrate with a Jameson’s….but Baileys was screeing the bottle!!
    Ba-da-bum…bum

  37. avatar Islander505 says:

Buf and Atl 1-1 ..lets go Kovie…time to knock them out of the race…(Atlanta that is)

  38. avatar Bri on Li says:

505 – I think you need to stop drinking if those are your tipsy jokes…

Missed the first period. Are we outplaying them, or was that a lucky goal?

  39. avatar Matt says:

I know I have said this many times but Kyle Okposo is so good!

  40. avatar Pat says:

This team has really come on since the beginning of the season. I hope it doesn’t cost us the first or second pick or even a worse thought, that in a couple of years we don’t see the Kansas City Cowboys celebrating our Stanley Cup.

  41. avatar Richie66 says:

we cant win this game, not after getting 3pts from det and philly, were killing ourselves

  42. avatar Islander505 says:

Bri on LI…I’m not drinking enough.
I’d say we are “well playing” them.
Not a lucky goal…good PP goal, good puck movement (quick goal off the PP).
Overall edge in puck control to Isles in the 1st period.

  43. avatar Islander505 says:

Actually a bad clearing pass by Poti set up the goal…caused by pressure.

  44. avatar Islander505 says:

I don’t think we’ve seen how good KO is gonna be

  45. avatar Pete says:

I find it so hard to root against my team when I see these young guys succeed. Frans Nielsen is the man.

  46. avatar MACCH says:

This freaking team…. We cant even lose right lol

  47. avatar Isles316 says:

    Wrecker!

  48. avatar Justin says:

You know what, why can’t Frans Nielsen be a 60-70 point playmaking center? He has 32 points in 53 games this season without much offensive help.

  49. avatar Scott D. says:

Though I differ from most in that I’d be just as happy with Duchene as I would with Tavares, this is a classic example of an organization that is hurting itself by winning meaningless games down the stretch. As CB has said though, that’s why they have the lottery, and maybe karma will reward them for their hard work.

  50. avatar Pritchett54 says:

    who won the fight?

  51. avatar Isles316 says:

I want to see someone absolutely level Greene. That was dirty.

  52. avatar Isles316 says:

That HAS to be a 5 game suspension.

It’s the same thing Witt and Pock did.

  53. avatar Pat says:

I love to see the guys stick up for each other. There becoming a team right before our eyes.

  54. avatar Daniel says:

If that isn’t a minimum 3 game suspension then I don’t know what it. Unfortunately, it will probably be nothing because it happened to an Islander.

  55. avatar Islander505 says:

There are 6 on ice Islanders looking for their jocks on that Fedorov to Ovechkin goal….nice play.

  56. avatar Blizzard says:

Man it sucks that we are winning…..but I am watching these guys play and really enjoying it. I agree Scott. Maybe the Hockey gods will shine on the Islanders……Ooops Ovechkin goal……

  57. 505 – I missed that pregame conversation. I’m having a glass of wine. I blame Botta for that.

  58. avatar Islander505 says:

Gotta luv Chris Jackman….Greene wasn’t done with that check (illegal as hell) on Hilbert and jackman was ALL OVER him

  59. My comment is awaiting moderation? What is this?

  60. avatar mLemb says:

Chris Jackman? I assume you mean either Tim or Hugh…and seeing as Wolverine isn’t on the Islanders…hmmm maybe….

  61. avatar Islander505 says:

10 bonus points to Rose for the Kournikova reference…Who didn’t get a visual of her when he mentioned her

  62. avatar Islander505 says:

Did I say Chris Jackman? Whoops

  63. avatar mLemb says:

Wasn’t trying to be a pain…but eveytime I hear Jackman’s name I do think X-men…I bet Wolverine could get he lighthouse built

  64. avatar Islander505 says:

Speaking of whoops…Not an NHL play by Callahan their..2-2…good game…
Atlanta up 2-1 with 8 mins to go in the 2nd

  65. avatar Blizzard says:

    Yes…I mean damn!!!!

  66. avatar Isles316 says:

My girlfriend calls him Wolverine and might have posted a comment or two lately with that namesake.

  67. avatar David Lee says:

Rechlicz is pretty poor fighter . I think Ovechkin needs to be put through the boards.

  68. avatar Joe says:

Hes actually a really good fighter, hes not used to the NHL caliber guys, he did really well the other night. Either way, the fight was a draw so it wasnt bad.

  69. avatar Islander505 says:

Green being interviewed by CJ in between periods?
CJ needs to take a poke at him for that hit on Hilbert.
    C’MON CJ!!
    WE’RE ALL ISLANDERS!!

  70. avatar David Lee says:

CJ might has well cuddled with him. And, why does anyone think wrecker can fight? His minor league record isnt exactly strong either . And, he’s lost almost all fights at NHL level.

  71. avatar Ben says:

I think if Colorado and Tampa win two more games each then we should have a lock on the #1 or #2 pick which ain’t too shabby

  72. avatar cgs878 says:

Green is exactly the type of D-man that the Islanders need. Hedman! Hedman! Hedman!

  73. avatar Staten Islander says:

Atlanta and Buffalo at 2 end of 2nd period

  74. avatar Justin says:

If the Penguins win the Cup, does that Guerin pick become a 1st-rounder?

  75. avatar Isles316 says:

    PARK IT

  76. avatar Pat says:

Look at Tampa and Colorado’s schedule. They both will be lucky to win one game each. Let’s go Av’s, tonight is the one they better win because it doesn’t get any easier after tonight.

  77. Justin (75) – That pick can’t go higher than the third round.

  78. avatar Ben says:

How many people have a gut feeling that Dipietro has limited playing time in the future because of those knees?

He can be brilliant/awesome. He steals games for us and could in the future. but didn’t we see that happen so many times from both of our keepers this season.

Imagine if we were to get Colorado’s or Tampa’s pick for him? The future is bright for McDonald and Danis and reading Chris’s earlier post they would each compliment each other, grow and improve through the future seasons. And, perhaps if we get two franchise pieces in one draft – then the future is set. Heck, I’d give DiPietro and a second rounder for a shot at another top three pick.

I’ve seen some great games from both of our keepers this year and I would not be surprised if they could give us great goaltending in the future. I think they can be even better in the future.

    Go Islanders!

  79. avatar patrick says:

here we go again. bye bye top 2 pick

    great meaningless wins

    lets go islanders

  80. avatar Islander505 says:

    Ben.
I am someone who wonders if DP will have ANY playing time….bad hips are not good things

  81. avatar Islander505 says:

    Time to pull Joe Mac?

  82. avatar NYICHAMP39 says:

My god I cant believe this. Why does this happen now?? I love that KO is playing so well but cant he get 3 points in a 7-4 loss or something?

Ovechkin better score or something. We cannot get two points out of this game…

  83. avatar NYICHAMP39 says:

My god I cant believe this. Why does this happen now?? I love that KO is playing so well but cant he get 3 points in a 7-4 loss or something?

Ovechkin better score or something. We cannot get two points out of this game…

  84. avatar Islander505 says:

Okay, I’ve had about enough of the Egg Levine references…the guy is a ranger fan.

  85. avatar Ben says:

Guerin deal is 5th rounder if Penguins fail to make playoff, 4th rounder if they make playoffs, 3rd rounder if Penguins win a round. Also, a contingency of the amount Guerin plays. Please stay healthy Bill!!!

As crazy as that arrangement sounds, I’m sure Garth was pressing for further round advancements based on Penguin success but really didn’t have much to bargain from.

  86. avatar Justin says:

For all us ‘all of a sudden Avalanche fans,’ the Coyotes are starting the immortal Al Montoya in net tonight.

  87. avatar patrick says:

i watch these games with a sick feeling as the top 2 pick slips away

    just a terrible feeling

  88. avatar Ben says:

Hey 505 You’re right, the hips too. It just doesn’t make sense.

Also, look at how the identity of the team has changed so much. Remember how everything/everyone seemed to depend Ricky. Not anymore! Players are stepping up!The team has grown quickly!

  89. avatar Matt says:

Uh oh – that looked like an MCL for Kyle. That would be a disaster…….

  90. avatar Pat says:

    Oh NO KO

  91. avatar patrick says:

    1-0 phx

the avs will not win another game

  92. avatar UIF says:

Yep…saw that one coming. defense never saw Green sneaking in there.

  93. avatar Cruicky says:

    Another Washington power play ????

  94. avatar KLann says:

ko still on the bench, whewwwwwwwww

  95. avatar Matt says:

Gotta love Jaffe’s excitement to see KO back on the bench.

  96. avatar admin says:

Is that Eminem sitting behind Gordon?

  97. avatar Chris says:

I hate watching these games…….. it feels so wrong wanting them to lose.

  98. avatar isles316 says:

I think its Skittles. His understudy.

  99. avatar NYICHAMP39 says:

    thank you hockey gods…

  100. avatar Matt says:

Bad goal by Joey Mac. But good for the Taveras watch…….!

  101. avatar Jim Clark says:

Nice going Jackman. Cause a penalty to negate and goal and to give the Caps a power play goal. I can see why our backup GM gave you an extension.

  102. avatar HilbertSnipe says:

    thank you jackman… and hockeygods

  103. avatar KLann says:

jackman looks like a clown with all those bruises

  104. avatar Cruicky says:

There you go..no discipline.. no chance.

  105. avatar isles316 says:

This is obviously not a bad thing, however, does anyone like the prospect of having MacDonald or Danis playing for us next season? I really dont like either of them although at times they have been good.

  106. avatar NYICHAMP39 says:

It is amazing that Mike Green now has as many goals as Sidney Crosby.

Crosby is a good player but IMO he doesnt even compare to Ovie.

  107. avatar Matt says:

Danis seems to have a higher ceiling. Would love to have him backing up DP (a healthy DP?).

  108. avatar Justin says:

I can just picure an Avs fan watching the out-of-town scoreboard in Colorado and cursing when the Isles just gave up two quick goals.

  109. avatar isles316 says:

I don’t think Colorado fans as a whole understand how losing will benefit them. They have never sucked before.

  110. avatar NYICHAMP39 says:

At this point i think Danis’ play and his age (being two years younger than Joey Mac) essentially have won him a spot on this team next year. I wouldnt mind that one bit. I think he is a very capable back up and could see upwards of 25-30 games next season which would be perfect for him.

  111. avatar Chris says:

Danis also seems to me to play better the more games he plays, like in the beginning of the season he never played well coming off the bench playing the 1 or 2 random games, which we will need in a back up (that is if we have a healthy DP)
Joey Mac seems to be able to handle the longer times between games.

  112. avatar Big Dally says:

    Empty netter….let’s go Colorado.

  113. avatar isles316 says:

Well,Danis has been awful more than not in my opinion. He had a nice 10-12 games but before that he was awful and the last 3 he has been brutal. He in my mind cost them the Flyers game and can’t make a big save.

Also, everytime he makes a save he looks behind him. I cant take that in a goalie.

I like Joey Mac more but I’m not sold on him.

  114. avatar Matt says:

Has KO taken a shift since dinging his knee?

  115. avatar NYICHAMP39 says:

True I’ll give you that Chris but I’m hoping that his play is not just a result of him getting consistent playing time, but also a result of him developing and seeing what the NHL game is really like. Hopefully he is now an, overall, better goaltender than he was at the beginning of this season. Remember before this year he had only played a handful of games in the NHL in his years in Montreal.

  116. avatar isles316 says:

Just put on the AVS games. I’ll say this, someone just threw a check on the AVS. Wow.

  117. avatar isles316 says:

Avs had 5 shots on goal. Awesome.

  118. avatar Islander505 says:

Matt, Ko did play and delivered a nice check on someone…He looks fine

  119. avatar Vinny says:

Guerin just fought Clarkson haha. Anyone else see that?

  120. avatar KO Fan says:

Okposo did not play the last 6 minutes.

    Past 12 games (6 goals/9 assists) 15 points

    STAR

  121. avatar NYICHAMP39 says:

I dont understand how the Vets on the AVS could let them tank so badly. You’d think that the leadership in that locker room would stand up and try to turn things around. I mean the Islanders lose alot of games but i got to say this team hustles and gives it 100% every night. And if they didnt, guys like Weight and Streit and Witt would crucify people. Where is the leadership on the AVS?!??!!?!

  122. avatar DC23 says:

    CB:

As usual, Howie and Billy didn’t notice that Okposo only had one shift since he left the ice with an apparant injury. He didn’t take his last two shifts. Maybe someone should tell them that talking about Egg Levine or other nonsence shouldn’t take away from the important stuff!

  123. avatar Ian says:

I believe this loss and the Atlanta win clinches an Islander finish no better than 28th.

  124. avatar pennst92 says:

    Beauty! Tavheduch here we come!!!

    SWEET!!!

  125. avatar Cruicky says:

Joey Mac with a second star, must have played pretty well in the loss. I think that both Joey and Yann will play in the NHL next year, somewhere and will earn more than league minimum.

  126. avatar Kevin Fitz says:

anyone else notice that Newsday has been updating their site during the day recently? They already have the game summary up.

  127. Definitely, enough of this Egg Levine crap. We don’t need to give Rag fans a pulpit.

WTF with that Green hit? I like Mike Green, but that hit lowered my respect for him. The league is a joke when they talk about eliminating dirty hits. Rising stars, and current stars are given free passes to leave their feet, punch others in the nuts, or try to cut someone’s leg off (Pronger incident last year) with no major penalty (until enough people protest in the case of Pronger). Mike Green won’t get a suspension for it, and I’m not surprised since the hit was on an Islander, and it seems that the Islanders are fair game for dirty hits. Dear Rectum Campbell, GFY.

Lastly, what is with CJ interviewing members of the OPPOSING team during intermission? I thought it was the ISLANDERS BROADCAST! Dear MSG and CJ, stick to the damn Islanders.

  128. avatar Islander505 says:

    Isles fan in Ulster County…

It’s pretty common on most broadcasts from all teams (I have Center Ice) for the home broadcast team to interview a member of their team between 1st and 2nd and then interview a member of the opposing team between 2nd and 3rd.
Not sure if it’s a leaguewide rule (cuz it doesn’t seem like it’s done ALL the time)but it’s not unusual.

  129. avatar John Keitz says:

In many ways this was the best outcome. The Isles won 4-3, but the ref removed a goal (bogus call, and even if you agree with the call, then why isn’t the same call made when Joey was steamrolled in an identical fashion? OK, the league isn’t biased against the Isles, and the mainstream media isn’t liberal…) and gives a penalty to boot!

So, we get to watch the Isles best the Caps, and still stay in the lottery lead. Win Win!

  130. avatar John Keitz says:

To all the people complaining about the Isles boradcast, you should have seen the Caps one. Since the Dolan children are still withholding HD feeds from NHL Center Ice, I chose to watch the Caps broadcast in nice clear HD. They had an excellent program and they were very balanced in their commentary. Not quite Howie and Billy, but a pretty good second best.

And, a note to the MSG advertisers, as long as the Dolan children continue to play this game, we have eight eyes that are not seeing any MSG advertisements in our house!

Bring back the HD broadcasts you idiots!
