PENGUINS 6, NYI 1: Top-2 pick locked up
Talk Islanders and all things hockey here

by Chris Botta on April 9th, 2009 at 4:26 pm

Happy Passover and Happy Easter in advance to all who celebrate. I hope everyone has a terrific holiday week. Talk about tonight’s Islanders-Penguins game and everything else hockey here. Continue the Lighthouse discussion below.

The Islanders clinch the top seed in next Tuesday’s NHL Draft Lottery and are guaranteed a top-2 pick tonight if one of these happen:

  • The Islanders lose in regulation to the Penguins

  • The Islanders lose in overtime or a shootout and Tampa Bay gets one point in their game tonight against Washington

  • Tampa Bay beats Washington

In other words, the magic number is 2 points.

I’m putting together some pieces in anticipation of a possible Tavheduch clinching tonight. In and around that work, I’ll join you in Comments.

  1. avatar Ed from Philly says:

No offense to the team, but I’d love to have that 30th spot locked up tonight.

  2. avatar DavidNYC says:

Fornabaio’s BST blog is reporting that Justin DiBenedetto is “finally going to come in on an amateur tryout.”

  3. avatar Sneekypete says:

What`s the deal with Sarnia Captain Matt Martin?
I don`t want to wait for rookie camp to see what he can do.

  4. avatar Matt says:

Chris, I honestly don’t know what I would do with out your blog.

  5. avatar thepolishprince says:

I’m also curious to see DiBo in BPort and Matt Martin in rookie camp. I’m pulling for Martin to become another Dave Scatchard type for the Isles. Here’s to having the Isles play their hearts out tonight but end up just one goal short.(Yes I did just hope for them to lose and no I’m not a closet Ranger fan).

  6. avatar Hock says:

Let’s snap back from that 9-0 disaster. I’d like to see some goal scoring tonight. How about both Tampa and the Isles win tonight.

  7. avatar admin says:

    (4) I really, really appreciate that, Matt…CB

  8. avatar Coach B says:

The NCAA Frozen Four Semi-Finals are today on ESPN-2. In the second game at 8:30 is Boston University with Corey Trivino and Matt Gilroy against Vermont. Bimidji State and Miami (Ohio) starts at 5 PM.

  9. avatar Coach B says:

I second what Matt (4) says.

  10. avatar West Coast Fan says:

I’d probably get a lot more work done lol…

  11. avatar Netminder39 says:

I would like to see a better effort from the entire team. That’s all. if the lose they lose. If they win, it just adds more drama for the weekend.

  12. avatar Isle_in_LA says:

Chris – I think it’s safe to say that my wife does not like you. I get in more s#@t from reading this blog than anything else I do:) Thanks. LOL

  13. avatar MIKE says:

Justin Dibenedetto was drafted by the Isles because Snow got a 6th round pick for Chris Simon

  14. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

It will be great to see DiBo get the tryout … Exactly what are the terms of these ATOs?? Is it for a certain amount of games or based on a length of time? Doesn’t the Isles own Dibo’s and Martin’s rights for two years regardless or not whether they were drafted “overage”?

CB … do you know of a website (other than Hockey’s Future) where we can see the Isle’s depth chart by position, the players’ contract or unsigned status, age, salary cap hit, stats and current playing level from junior / college prospect level thru to current NHL veterans … kind of one stop shopping to see a teams’ depth chart.

  15. avatar JayK says:

West Coast Fan #10 — took the words right out of my mouth!!

Remember — we’re taking names at beatkate09@yahoo.com. We can beat Kate Murray!!

  16. avatar admin says:

NYI just signed DiBenedetto to three-year deal. New post up top. Continue game and all other talk in this thread. Thanks…CB

  17. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

I’d prefer to root for the Lightning tonight than root against the Islanders.

    LETS GO LIGHT-NING!!!!

  18. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

EXCELLENT CB!!! Always the bearer of Good News!

  19. avatar derek says:

    19 Isles #15,

Check out NHLNumbers.com, best cap info site around. There is also NHLCap.com, i believe.

It’ll be interesting to see if DiBo can rack it up in the A.

  20. avatar BR says:

Someone can probably explain this better than I can, but I think that with these recent entry level signings (Katic, Dibo), since they aren’t going to see any time with the big team in the next three games, year-one of the contract starts next season. But to practice (as well as have a chance to play in any remaining games) with the Tigers, they have to sign an ATO (which basically pays them next to nothing). And, since they weren’t on the all-clear day roster, I don’t think they’ll be allowed to play in any AHL playoff games.

  21. avatar Isle_in_LA says:

Kate Murray on Yahoo.com. Guess what it’s for. Yep. The weed eating goats. Yay Kate!

  22. CB. Lots of encouragement for this sight today !!! How is Chris Botta’s plan for the future coming along???

  23. avatar Islanders1984 says:

CB if isles do clinch it tonight does it just become a Tavhed watch or do you think they are considering Duchene

  24. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

Thanks Derek …I have those sites saved already in my Faves … I was wondering if there is a ONE-STOP shopping site so that I don’t have to cross reference multiple websites to see the big picture of a team’s roster and depth.
    ***
LOL Isle in LA … I saw that earlier too … I was tempted to post that link on the Light House thread … but I figured it would be against CB’s comment policy since it really wasn’t about the Light House … so I held back…

CB you gotta check that out by the way … hilarious to see where she is focusing her efforts.

  25. avatar C. Felix says:

I must also echo comment #4.

Also, shouldn’t it be the unmagic number?

  26. avatar Quagmire says:

One more that agrees with #4. This blog is great. There is nowhere else to get this kind of coverage of the Isles. As badly as the newspapaer business is doing these days, sites like this seem to be how the business is going to evolve/is evolving. As others have said here, I too will gladly pay a membership fee to keep this going if necessary!

  27. avatar admin says:

Thanks, everyone. Enjoy all the hockey tonight. I’ll be around…CB

  28. avatar admin says:

    (22) Not so poorly or so great that I’ve been able to write about it like I said I would. My focus is on the end of the season and the lottery next week. Hopefully, I’ll have a clearer picture on the future of the blog soon after and provide readers with the clear and honest update they deserve…CB

  29. avatar TM says:

Is this game streaming online anywhere?

  30. avatar Jim Clark says:

Howie Rose is pretty good but there is something special about Jiggs McDonald.

  31. avatar Madchef says:

Hey if you have to charge a couple of sheckles per season to keep us in the know…so be it.I can’t get this info on my top three sports websites combined(about my isles) I can’t help but think you have kept many a fan still interested in this team this year with this blog. Bad team + no info = no watch, however this blog has me tuned in daily

  32. avatar BringtheReign says:

cant wait to c Trivino tn

  33. avatar Richie66 says:

    TB already up 1-0

  34. avatar Islesphan25 says:

    1-1 now….come on TB

  35. avatar Lorne says:

Why are we up 1-0, no business winning tonight.

  36. Mr Henning – Give it time the 40+ line is one the ice.

  37. avatar Lorne says:

LOL, #37 that really is my name, no joke

  38. avatar born83 says:

Goal by C Nielsen but with assists from C Weight and C Bailey. How exactly did that happen.

  39. avatar Gloobenberg says:

    30 – I agree totally.

I’d love to have Jiggs back full time.

    1-1!

  40. avatar Staten Islander says:

Its funny, I’m at work and follow here plus i have that scoreboard thing that you get on NHL.com up on the screen, when i read it, I hear it in jigg’s voice, I think I have issues…..lol

  41. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

Did anyone catch the pre-game … they did a little profile on John Tavares and Victor Hedman … CJ also spoke with the Pens’ VP regarding their NEW arena construction. They had been trying to get their arena going since 1999 … long haul for them too.

  42. avatar Isle_in_LA says:

Looks like Carolina is getting a taste of their own medicine…
    Buffalo – 4
    Carolina -0
    2nd period

    Jerks

  43. avatar Chickendirt says:

Thank Dog this season is almost over. It’s been a long one.

Tonight if all goes well we are guarenteed either Tavares or Hedman. There will be reason to celebrate.

This will be the OFFICIAL New Ice Age on Long Island.

  44. avatar Jim (GFIC) says:

Apparently the angry bald guy who does the commercials for “Greatest Day” is a die hard fan of all NY professional sports teams. C’mon guy, pick one team per sport.

    Except for tonight- go Lightning!

  45. avatar Pete M says:

When he ‘we’ when talking about the Rangers I want to puke

  46. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

Would it not be ironic … and in a way fitting if Billy Guerin scores the go ahead goal late in the 3rd period to seal the victory for the Pens… or … if the Isles win … Steve Stamkos scores the winning goal for Tampa in their game tonight.

  47. avatar eye on the island says:

we get screwed again on the outdoors game- bostons getting it

    its on espn.com

  48. avatar Pat says:

I hope they aren’t playing the Rangers. It will ruin my day.

  49. avatar Islesphan25 says:

how are we getting screwed…yankee and citi field wouldn’t have it this year anyway….

Fenway is were it should be…

  50. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

Going back n forth between Isles Pens and BU / Vermont game … Gilroy looks really strong on and off the puck.

  51. avatar Islesphan25 says:

Its gonna be against the Caps…

    Fenway busy this year…

    Winter Classic
    Phish

  52. avatar eye on the island says:

it said we were in the running- why wouldnt yankee or citi have it

  53. avatar Staten Islander says:

Because everyone is still in love with Boston for winning the ’04 world series

  54. avatar Giaco says:

    nastyyyy goal by colin wilson

    hes gonna be good

  55. avatar eye on the island says:

your right 54, cuz im still heartbroken

  56. avatar Giaco says:

    Winter Classic
    1. Rangers will NOT be playing Boston this winter classic
    2. Rangers will get next yrs winter classic at yankee stadium vs a canadian team
    3. Isles have no business being in the game- even though i would love them playing the Rangers – We are the worst team in the NHL and this is the leagues super bowl sunday
    4. Prediction: Caps vs Boston @ Fenway
Next Year Rangers vs Canadians @ Yankee stadium in 2 yrs

  57. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

Yeah .. saw that Giaco … Nick Classic and I were really hoping the Isles drafted him last year … instead they traded down … water under the bridge … on the same topic … Corey Trivino is getting pushed off the puck very easily … he’s going to need a membership to NY Sports Club in the off season … Gilroy is a great story … ya know what will make his story greater?;)

  58. avatar Richie66 says:

If we draft Tavares we will have just slightly above no chance at all

  59. Islesphan25 (52) Did you enter the presale lottery for Fenway & JB?

  60. avatar Ray says:

Way to get another plug by Billy Jaffe tonight CB!

  61. avatar Islesphan25 says:

Brian (60) Yes I did….I think a total of 6 orders…You going to any other shows? You put your order in?

  62. avatar admin says:

    (61) I missed it. What did Billy say? CB

  63. avatar JayK says:

He said he had learned about the signing from that “great” website Point Blank.

  64. avatar Islesphan25 says:

CB….you are gonna be world famous bec. of this Blog. Thank you for everything you put into this site. Its the best website out there.

  65. Islesphan (60) – Yes. Two orders in for JB and Fenway, have SPAC and Darian Lake, working all connections for the other two JB nights. Will trade SPAC or Darian for JB any night.

    Tampa losing 3-1, ggrrgghh!

  66. avatar Islesphan25 says:

Thats gonna be a tough one. Is your SPAC Pavs? You might be able to do SPAC Pavs for JB. Let me know if you need help getting rid of them. I will be at Fenway JB*3, Great Woods, Camden, Harford and SPAC

  67. I hear ya, just figured I’d mention it in case. No pavs for SPAC. I was lucky to get the GAs as I was in the hospital when they went on sale.

Okay back to Isles talk now lest we incur the wrath of the most benevolent CB. I would feel so much better if Tampa would just win tonight.

As long as I am blowing another post, I’m down on contributing necessary $ to keep Point Blank alive. Many thanks CB.

  68. avatar Otter says:

I miss a lot of the pre-game stuff and even some of the first because unfortunately my job gets in the way. So excuse me if this has been covered already.

Anyhow, I know Howie has his obligation to that other club in Queens this time of year. And that means we have the benefit of Jiggs in his absence. What is Jiggs up to these days when he’s not calling for the Isles? I thought he was doing the Panther games? Regardless, the guy still sounds like a million bucks!

  69. avatar Ray says:

    (64) has the quote from Billy

  70. avatar Lorne says:

Hope the Rangers enjoy getting spanked by Boston or Washington in the first round.

  71. avatar Jim M says:

ugh have to listen to ranger fans for atleast another 4 games..i cant stand it

  72. avatar Rob76 says:

Damn – the Rags made the playoffs…

  73. avatar Richie66 says:

Forget the Rags, let tonight be a night of celebrating getting either Tavares or Hedman

  74. avatar Chickendirt says:

Twelve minutes till it’s official that we are gonna land a superstar.

  75. avatar admin says:

I’ll be on 1050 ESPN Radio in New York at 10:10 pm tonight talking pucks with Bill Daughtry…CB

  76. avatar eye on the island says:

its a serious issue when richard park gets consistent power play minutes-

    hes a grinder/pker

    we desperately need player makers

  77. avatar Thomas32 says:

looks like we’re heading for a regulation loss! So Im guessing we’re getting a top 2 pick!

  78. avatar Chickendirt says:

    CB;

Is there any site that streams the show you are on?

  79. avatar Thomas32 says:

Who said Guerin would score the winner?? Good call!!

  80. avatar eye on the island says:

    number 1 here we come!

congrats on making it through this horrible miserable season isles fans

unless we are all blinded by the light, next year should be fun

  81. avatar greg says:

how fitting, 4 – 1 last goal guerin. Lets go tavares

  82. avatar Ken D. says:

4-1 Pittsburgh. I proclaim “Tavhed” watch over!

  83. avatar Gloobenberg says:

Alright boys….may the Hockey Gods shine upon us next Tuesday ever so brightly.

    Please bring us John Tavares.

  84. avatar Joe says:

Guerin helping us again, 8 minutes till we lock up the top pick!!!

  85. avatar Fearthewrecker says:

    Guerin is so classy

  86. avatar Mikey says:

I know everyone will be really excited tonight; we deserve to have some hope. However, let’s just make sure we don’t get carried away. There’s no guarantee that JT or VH will be stars. For every great top draft pick, there’s always a Pat Falloon or an Alex Daigle. These guys have great potential, but we can’t expect either of them to carry the team. They will be a piece of the puzzle. It’s an important step forward, but drafting one of these guys guarantees nothing.

  87. avatar Thomas32 says:

God I cant wait to see Tavares in an Islander uniform!!!

  88. avatar TM says:

CB, B Daughtry is cool, an old Isles fan from Mount Vernon. Don’t talk too much about the rangers ;) I’ll listen.

  89. avatar Jim Clark says:

Does Bill Daughtry have “a little birdie” telling him Tavares won’t play on Long Island like another NYC sports talk host has?

  90. avatar Thomas32 says:

OH yeah!!! 5-1 !! We’re gonna lock it up tonight!!

  91. avatar Fearthewrecker says:

14 goals in two games we need defense

  92. avatar Chickendirt says:

We get Tavares we are gonna be crazy sick team up the middle.

    Tavares

    Bailey

    Neilsen

    Weight.

    OUCH!!!!!

  93. avatar Matt says:

i think when it is all said and done, matt duchene will be an islander.

  94. avatar Pat says:

And a back up goaltender. Vermont up 3-2.

  95. avatar Thomas32 says:

Really??? Why?? I mean I wouldnt mind him , but with almost a 100% chance at the top 2 , why Duchene?

  96. avatar Gloobenberg says:

94 – I’m sorry, i just dont see snow trading down. You can’t justify doing that again. Esp when you have a top 2 pick!

  97. avatar Staten Islander says:

Now that this is decided, i truly hope that I never have to root for one of my teams to lose again

  98. avatar Lorne says:

Take Tavares if we get #1, no if and or butts. Maybe a few butts.

  99. avatar TM says:

92 Feather, NYI is also the lowest scoring team this season, needs offense too. JT first.

  100. avatar Julie says:

It’s hard to really fully enjoy this loss, what with that effin lighthouse thing hanging over my head.

  101. avatar Islander505 says:

    One comment about the game…

    Dear Scott Gordon….
The guy’s name is Richard ParK, as in PK.
Not Richard ParP, as in PP.
    I love Richard ParK.
    I hate Richard ParP.
I realize that he is out there cuz KO is hurt. But if I see him within the same time zone as a Power Play next next year, EVER, I just might destroy a television set.

With guys like Tambellini and Bergenheim on the bench please keep Richard ParP off the ice during PP’s, especially 5 on 3′s.

  102. avatar NickyL says:

Now that it seems the Top 2 pick is locked up, people need to understand that it doesnt gaurentee Tavares. Lets see where we are picking next week. If we land the #1 pick, then you can cheer about Tavares all you want.

  103. avatar Fearthewrecker says:

Ideal scenario Isles get one Tampa gets two and Tampa offers an extra pick to guarantee Hedman which gives the Isles an extra pick plus Tavares

  104. avatar Thomas32 says:

    6-1!! Looking good!!

  105. avatar Matt says:

i am pulling for duchene. just an idea…but if we get the number 1 pick, maybe we can trade with the number 3 team and get a couple of more third round picks while us taking duchene.

  106. avatar admin says:

I should have the first column of a two-part (or 3-part) series on the lottery up around midnight…CB

  107. avatar Richie66 says:

Man how nervious are we all going to be during the lottery…ugh 6-1 maybe we should draft……a goalie

  108. avatar eye on the island says:

    thank you 505,

    it makes zero sense

  109. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

CB – I know Bill Daughtry from the late 80s early 90s … My best friend and I used to go over his place in a strat-o-matic baseball league.

  110. avatar Islander505 says:

    19Isles…

“Nick Classic and I were really hoping the Isles drafted him last year”

    AHEM…
    Nick Classic, you and 505.
We were at the Colisseum/Marrriot ready to pop the champagne bottles if it happened. (You were MIA).

  111. avatar Thomas32 says:

#106 , NO WAY!! How could you even think about passing on Tavares or Hedman , for Duchene? I mean , Matt is a great player , but no where near those two.

  112. avatar Matt says:

sorry for making so many posts but would

    Andy Hilbert
    Nate Thompson
    Jeff Tambellini
    Mitch Fritz

be in the nhl if the islanders were non existant?

  113. avatar greg says:

Guerin is saying, thank god I am on the other side.

  114. We need a goaltender, too. DP get healthy. Why are the Isles laying down, and getting run around in these last few games of the season? In the immortal words of Dylan Thomas: “Do not go gentle into that good night, rage rage against the dying of the light.” What is with the lack of physical play in these last two games? The Isles turned into wussies. No fights, no nothing.
I don’t look forward to this weekend.

  115. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

Ouch, 6-1. Isles505, hilarious. I thought Tambs was having a decent game too and should have been out there. CB, do you see the Isles drafting a goalie again this year? I am not sure where Ridderwal (sp) and Poulin (sp) project but if they end up with a 3rd from Pitt (Guerin trade) it can’t hurt, or can it?

  116. avatar admin says:

    (75) CDirt: It’s not official until they actually use one of the top-2 picks. Just sayin’! CB

  117. avatar TM says:

Montreal in, Buff and Fla. out.

  118. avatar Lorne says:

Lets play hard for the loyal fans this weekend.

  119. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

As much as I’m happy with a gauranteed top 2 pick … I’m not at all happy with the performance of this team the last 2 games.

Bitter sweet … Now lets tear Philly and Boston a new …. you know what I mean.

  120. avatar Hubie McDonough says:

I totally agree with many of the previous posts, it’s so hard to root for your beloved team to fail, all we can hope for is that something special will come out of this.

  121. avatar Will C says:

Thank You Penguins, you just helped create the beginning to a new atlantic division powerhouse. Enjoy your attempt at home ice this year…….

  122. avatar bergie20 says:

mission accomplished, we’ve landed hedman or tavares. thank God this ridiculous race is over. now let’s go beat the flyers and b’s this weekend.

  123. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

That is right 505!!! You were on the Colin Wilson campaign also.

  124. avatar Jamerson says:

    Mercy.

  125. avatar AM says:

    Happy Tavheduch!!!!!

    Bring me Mr. Tavares.

  126. avatar admin says:

    (116) Yes, I do see them drafting a goalie in the first 3 rounds in June, maybe in the first 2. They have to. Other than DiPietro, there isn’t a potential No. 1 goalie in the system…CB

  127. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

Yeah … I was MIA … Miffed In Airport.. LOL!

  128. avatar isles99 says:

im happy we locked down the last spot and all that comes with. now lets all get back to rooting FOR the islanders. im going on sat and sun. they better not show me the same perfomance theyve displayed the past 2 games. cant wait till tuesdays lottery.

  129. avatar Islander505 says:

    Ulster County..
Without KO (and now Comeau) this is a VERY different team.

    No biggie.

But I AM looking for to an OUTSTANDING EFFORT this weekend…At least 1 win, maybe two

  130. avatar eye on the island says:

why if we get 1 tavares is a no brainer

    http://www.puckprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=66

  131. avatar nystrom23 says:

Alleluiaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa its finally over….now on to the lottery

  132. avatar greg says:

please I am going to be at the philly game, you can count on a Tavares Chant.

  133. avatar MIKE says:

    Finally

  134. avatar Richie66 says:

THANK GOD!! NOW I CAN ROOT FOR THE ISLES AGAIN!!! WOOHOO!!!! This is a big day, either Hedman or Tavares will make a difference, but lets not kid ourselves, we need Tavares more, DONT MESS THIS UP GARTH!!

  135. avatar greg says:

and a sign for good measure

  136. avatar Giaco says:

    OK.. mission accomplished

Let’s finish out healthy (as can be) and with two big wins this weekend

  137. avatar nystrom23 says:

#133…I ll be at the game too….i ll be chanting at the top of my lungs too

  138. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

CB, my last question for the night but what do you think of Patrick Roy’s kid Jonathan? He is the real deal or just all hyped because of that ridiculous fight he had in that juniors game? Imagine him and DP duking it out at training camp!! Haha.

  139. avatar TXNYI says:

Time for a beer. One of John Tavares or Victor Hedman will be an Islander.

Now, let’s go out and win the next two games and end the season on a positive note.

  140. avatar AZS says:

So glad I’ll be able to root for the Isles to win on Sat!

Already told my girlfriend that Tuesday at 8 the tv is all me …

I feel bad for her – she’s heard more about Kate Murray, draft lotteries, and all things Islanders than any person should have to endure …

  141. avatar Islander505 says:

    Okay….boys and girls.
The Plan is proceeding very nicely.
    Next step.
    Sign Gilroy.

Followed up by Sing Along With Mitch and the Bouncing Ball on Tuesday Night.
Everybody put your best focus on a blue and orange one falling out of the hopper.

  142. avatar slsangus says:

See you at the Coliseum this weekend. Playoffs 2010 – TavHed, Baby!

  143. avatar dmen77 says:

Excellent point by Billy Jaffe to say that we played hard the second half of the season and these teams are not taking us lightly anymore, they need to work hard to beat us.

It’s been a tough season and this has been rough to follow at times but overall it went exactly as we needed.

We will now have Tavares or Hedman with this franchise and the franchise player we need to build around (I prefer Tavares at this point).

Excellent job by Coach Gordon to congratulate Guerin for making the playoffs. Yes it helps us with a better draft pick but it’s still a classy move.

We look to next Tuesday for how the ping pong balls fall but we all know we can root for 2 Islander wins this weekend, especially after the Flyers lay and egg against the Rags.

  144. avatar JKP in Halifax says:

Bring on the ping-pong balls… Can we all start rooting for this team to win again now?

  145. avatar admin says:

    (142) Gilroy not happening, as I’ve written about a lot lately. Will most likely sign with a Canadian team…CB

  146. avatar Jimmy Mac says:

    Toronto or Ottawa.

  147. avatar sec301 says:

it was getting pretty hard to goto the islanders games and cheering for them to lose im finally glad this is over please let us draft Tavares if we have the choice

  148. avatar Islander505 says:

    CB…#127
A goalie will be drafted in June.
However, he will be a long term investment.

Garth will go after an established name goalie in the UFA derby. He has too. (I’m liking Clemmensen)
DP is no sure thing next year.

    Just my opinion.

  149. avatar JayK says:

Islander 505 — #149 — it’s very clear these last few weeks while Danis and Mcdonald have been career minor leaguers.

  150. avatar admin says:

    (147) Maybe Vancouver…CB

    (149) I look at his age and career record and don’t get Clemmensen as an established name goalie…CB

  151. avatar The Real Vukota says:

    #110

Grew up on strat. Best game out there!!!!

  152. avatar Islander505 says:

“Gilroy not happening, as I’ve written about a lot lately.”

    Really?

“Will most likely sign with a Canadian team…CB”

    Care to elaborate?
Cuz, I ain’t seen nuthin other than what the Canadian papers have been saying.

  153. avatar will c says:

trade the sj pick and a 2nd rd to move up and grab chicken parm ferraros kid landon. fastest kid in the draft. no more parise incidents.

  154. avatar MACCH says:

CB how much do you think the combine will affect the top 2 picks?

  155. avatar Islander505 says:

I like what Clemmensen did for the Dev’s while their name goalie was out.

  156. avatar Sec 215 says:

Ahhh, sucks so good! Any world on weather Okposo will be in the line-up for the last 2 games?

  157. avatar StevieL says:

1 of the 2 best young players in the World will pull an Isle Jersey over his head in June! What a year! It has been exhausting!
Too early to start the “Taylor Hall ” watch for 2010??

  158. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

If we get chicken parm the second, can we give him a cool nickname after another italian dish, like pasta arrabiata?? Ok, I am done for the night. Talk to you guys on Saturday. Great reads as always CB.

  159. avatar admin says:

    (155) 0. If the scouts of any teams need a combine to know anymore about the 5-6 players, they should really hang it up…CB

  160. avatar Coach B says:

Glad the draft race is over.(Still have to get theough the lottery). Billy Jaffe mentioned the Dibenedetto signing on pointlblank so that is where the plug was.

  161. avatar MACCH says:

I’m going to have to disagree with the first 5-6 maybe JT and HEDMAN but a lot of people have Kane, Duchene, MSP, even Cowen all over the place after the top 2.

  162. avatar Lorne says:

Hey CB, are you going on 1050??

  163. avatar Steve-O says:

What a relief. It is all in the hands of Lady luck and then Garth. In the mean time let’s get K.O. ready for the Worlds and give hime a chance to showcase for the Olympics.

  164. avatar TM says:

Can ESPN 1050 have any more commercials? 15 minutes worth. Here comes CB, unfortunatley talking rangers now…….

  165. avatar Anthony says:

Can’t wait for Hedman on the back-line (you know we’re not winning the lottery, right?) I’m just happy there’s a 2nd franchise player available this draft!
    *reverse physcology*
PLEASE GOD, LET US WIN THE LOTTERY

  166. avatar cgs878 says:

After Sunday’s game, the next time I want to think about hockey is October 1. All of this speculation is just plain annoying to the non-die-hard hockey fan.

  167. avatar MACCH says:

Trivino a non factor for BU.

  168. avatar secmaster420 says:

My son and I were at the game. It was our first time at the Igloo. I know they are building a new arena, but the Igloo is worse the the Coliseum. Narrow hallways, kiosks all over the place, long lines at bathroom. They skated only marginally better than at Carolina. There were a couple of goals that McDonald wouldn’t have stopped if they were beachballs.

At least we clinched one of the top 2 picks. With our luck, we’ll get 2nd.

  169. avatar Anthony says:

Trivino drew a penalty late in the 2nd that led to a BU goal… He’s competing hard… (he’s one of the youngest on the team don’t forget)

  170. avatar Matt says:

Hilbert Duchene Thompson <— alot of grit, energy and speed
    Bergy – Bailey – Okposo
    Comeau Nielsen – Hunter
    Jackman – Weight – Park

    solid 4 lines

  171. avatar Jim M says:

I hope we can stick it to philly and boston back to back at the end here..Tavares or Hedman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  172. avatar MACCH says:

Matt i just threw up in my mouth looking at those lines

  173. avatar Mark in Ottawa says:

“Happy Passover and Happy Easter in advance to all who celebrate. I hope everyone has a terrific holiday week.”

This is why I come back to this site every week.

    Chris – YOU’RE TOTAL CLASS ! Don’t change.

Have a great week all !

  174. avatar Anthony says:

    hey 173 hahahaha ME TOO

Matt, stay away from the war-room on draft day my friend – for that matter, do you want to take a fantasy hockey team in my league next year! LOL

  175. avatar Pat says:

Matt, if those are the 4 lines next year, will be last again.

  176. avatar MACCH says:

I dont want Hilbert on this team let alone on the first line. I know Thompson is Gordon’s boy, but I wouldnt lose any sleep if wasnt on the roster next year either

  177. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

Leave Matt alone … those are his lines for the Isles’ Taylor Hall 2010 sweepstakes.

  178. avatar Joe in Massapequa says:

I don’t even think Mike Milbury would put together those lines.

  179. No thanks with Clemmenson. We have Danis and Mac Attac as potential backups, and there are way better backups out there than Clemmenson. Clemmenson looks good on an excellent team, but he would look awful as an Islander.

  180. avatar Matt says:

177…hilbert and thompson are both gordons boys which means they are a lock on this team. hey, if the name of the game was “who can miss the most open nets” andy hilbert would be the great one.

  181. avatar Ari from Long Island says:

Great that we have a top two pick. However, if Isles are first and choose Hedman, there better not be any booing. He is being compared to Lidstrom and Pronger.

  182. avatar MACCH says:

181- hahaha I totally agree, but thats even a better reason not to have him on the fourth line. There is no room for him on this team anymore. Hes a ufa and hopefully looking for work elsewhere

  183. avatar MACCH says:

Colin Wilson looks very studly… Isles will regret passing on him.

  184. avatar Anthony says:

    2010 opening night

    Tambellini-Tavares-Okoposo
    Comeau-Bailey-Hunter
    Bergie-Neilson-Jackman
    Thompson-Weight-Park

    Komisarak Gervais
    Streit Witt
    Martinek Sutton

    DiPietro

  185. avatar Ari from Long Island says:

Komisarek will not be an islander….regardless of where he was born and how much cap space we have….

lets all be realistic about players not wanting to play here…..for now

  186. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

Colin Wilson is a monster … eh? What perfect positioning for the go ahead goal.

  187. avatar MACCH says:

    I see it this way
    Tamby – JT – KO
    Comeau – Bailey – Weight
    Bergie – Neilsen – Hunter
    Park – Thompson – Jackman

I like your D but doubt we’ll be able to snag Komi…

Lets see if anyone can make the team out of camp unexpected… If Joensuu can keep it up wouldnt be shocked to see him in the lineup

  188. avatar Jim M says:

I would MUCH rather see hilbert make the lineup before nate thompson im just really not a big fan of thompson at all..I think those 11 fowards fit and probably sign someone this off season

  189. avatar dalcy says:

i know its the only game i watched all year but this Gilroy kid did not blow me away or even make me notice him that much.
matter of fact, i was looking for him on the top unit of an important PP for BU and he wasn’t on it.
come to think of it, nothing good has ever come out of N. Bellmore or any Bellmore for that matter. haha

  190. avatar Strummer's Army says:

If Hilbert or Thompson are on this team don’t expect it to be that great.

I have to concur with Dalcy, first time I saw Gilroy and he was not grabbing my attention at all. Only game I saw him in though so maybe he is more dynamic usually.

As bad as the Isles looked the past two games it is nice to know that Tavares or Hedman will be an Islander.

CB, how would you compare Hedman to the top d=men taken in last years draft?

  191. avatar admin says:

    (191) Better than all of them except Doughty. Hedman is in Doughty’s league. Tough to gauge who might be better of the 2. Can’t slam-dunk guarantee NYI get Tavares or Hedman of they pick 2. Likely, I guess, but not a foregone conclusion.

Posting Lottery column in a few minutes…CB

  192. avatar patrick says:

i’m watching alot of clips but honestly i think they should take Hedman

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRpiOUjLxz4

he skates much better than tavares

  193. avatar Marc says:

FYI, with Colorado’s shootout loss and Tampa’s regulation loss tonight, Tampa clinched the 2nd worst record. For all of the “Tavaras to NYI” fans, this could help the cause as Tampa is apparently leaning towards Hedman if they win the lottery.

  194. avatar born83 says:

Truth be told other then Nicholas Lidstrom what European defensive prospect has ever proven to be at all a game changer and franchise. Hedman would be fine but I much rather have Taveras. We need a star forward we haven’t had one since Palffy or really Turgeon when it comes to franchise player.

We also can Sign Gilroy/Komisarek and we already have Streit not to mention we have several defensive prospects including Ness, Hamonic, Niemi, Donovan, Katic, and Kessell as well as Gervais, Hillen and Meyers already in the bigs.

  195. avatar patrick says:

    stefan persson

  196. avatar DPS says:

Some people on this blog are in la la land. I mean look at post 185. That team you just listed just absolutly sucks. You have 2 POTENTIAL good players in Tav and KO. Everyone else there just sucks large.
This is how I see the fwd lines if we dont want to finish last.

    Free Agent-Free Agent- KO
    Tamby – Baily- Free Agent
    Bergie- JT – Hunter
Comeau- Weight- Free Agent tough guy

If it doesnt look something like that isles fans get ready for another dismal season.
