LOGAN: DiPIETRO RECENTLY SEEN ON CRUTCHES
No explanation immediately available from the NYI

by Chris Botta on April 13th, 2009 at 12:39 am

12:40 am - Greg Logan writes that “Rick DiPietro recently was seen on crutches at the physical therapy center where the Islanders do their rehabilitation.” Over the last few days the PB inbox has received three emails from readers reporting various sightings of the goalie on crutches, but I could not verify.

DiPietro was not part of the post-game Jersey presentation with fans tonight, while some injured players were. He has not been seen around the team at their practices in recent weeks. On March 25 the team released a statement saying “Rick is progressing well and is on schedule to report to training camp.” Scott Gordon told me tonight after the game (and before Greg’s report), “Rick fully expects to be on the ice sometime in mid-summer and ready to go.” The team had no comment for Logan tonight and has not announced that DiPietro has had any surgery. Comments.

  1. avatar msmg says:

Oh Well. Hopefully he IS progressing and will be off the crutches soon and working out. I have to say I am not that disappointed with this news, it seemed inevitable.

  2. avatar Joe says:

Seasons over, but the controversy stays.

  3. avatar Steve S says:

Much thanks to Mike Milbury for setting this team back a decade.

  4. avatar mLemb says:

I wish I could cause so much commotion by walking around with crutches…the season is now 5 months away, give or take…are we really gonna be concerned with him on crutches now? I understand he has gained a reputation as an injury prone goalie, but I think it’s alittle ridiculous to look at him and say he won’t be healthy nearly half a year from now. The guy is obviously a competitor and he’ll do what it takes to get out there next season.

  5. avatar NYLES says:

Expect the next Islanders statement to say: “Dipietro has officially retired from professional hockey due to being made of glass.”

  6. avatar mm30 says:

I love Rickey D but it’s like he runs this franchise and is a constant reminder to fans that the Isles too often can’t get out of their own way.

    He probaly had another surgery.

  7. avatar mtrico says:

Well, it’s clear that the Islanders need to bring in a goalie this offseason who is content to see significant minutes as a backup, but is still capable of carrying the load of a #1. Then you look at Mac and Yann, and see if you can get one of them on a two way deal. Oh, and let’s not forget to give serious consideration to a goalie in the draft.

  8. avatar ragsbite says:

come on. even if he is healthy (a bit if), he will continue to whine if he doesnt play every game. and sure enough he will get injured again. It is one thing to be a competitor but another to be stupid and pig headed. I am sorry to say but he is the latter two.

  9. avatar Dave from croton says:

Hey cb if rick never plays again do the isles have an insurance clause? Could they make a claim and get covered?

  10. avatar Chris R says:

No. 7 is right. The isles need to draft a top goalie prospect. I feel that they need either Robin Lehner or Michael Lee. We can’t rely on DP and assume he will be 100 percent. We should give him a chance next season, but we need a STRONG backup plan.

  11. avatar Jerky says:

DP on crutches is a troubling setback. IF he can get healthy in time for next season, there’s no chance he plays more than 50 games.

CB – not to leap to a wild conclusion, but would insurance cover the remainder of the contract if DP’s career ceases? I know it would still hit our salary cap for the remaining 12 years, but I’m just curious what kind of protection Wang put in a 15 year contract (being such a savvy businessman, one would expect Wang wouldn’t have signed an agreement without a golden parachute for himself should something go terribly awry with DP such as career ending injury at the beginning of the contract).

  12. avatar mLemb says:

Oh yes absolutely right…he whined for 80 games this season cause he couldn’t play…oh wait…I don’t recall hearing a peep from him as far as being upset he wasn’t playing. Especially when the season had just started and we all thought he should have been playing. I really don’t see how someone can get a reputation like he has without ever really having done anything to warrant it.

  13. avatar KH says:

Ricky, it’s good to see you posting on here. Hope you feel better soon… when do you lose the crutches, my friend?

  14. avatar ShardZ says:

CB, I was just curious; how much does an injured player generally interact with the team on a day-to-day basis? I assume that depends on the severity of injury / length of time lost, but is someone like DiPietro or Sillinger expected to make an appearance at practices? Do they have regular meetings with the coaches? Are they required/suggested to watch games from the press box? Is this situation different with day-to-day injuries? I’m just curious, and was wondering what insider information you have. As always, thanks for your excellent work! Your site is always the best.

  15. avatar steveO says:

the day DIPI is 100% healthy, you will meet me at the lighthouse…and that will never happen

And does anybody know what # was on Gordon’s jersey that he gave out to a lucky Fan??was it the one Garth handed him?

We all knew that we would be in last this year but i think we played pretty good b4 and after the western trip we really needed dipi for that and we tried to and failed..i give the year a D for blowing leads and injures to key players and a B+ for development..
Martinek i think can be a good top 4 D-men in the league if he stops having injured person to give an A to, i feel bad for him being paired with WITT this year
Ooo Sparky(Barney)is a alcoholic he nodded that we should go to the bar loll no joke..
and finally my friends Dad won once after 27 years of being a season subscriber a dinner for 2 at the fox-hollow his going to take Barney with him

  16. avatar Brother Rat says:

Good lord–are any of us physical therapists? Or orthopedic surgeons? Or have intimate knowledge of Ricky’s current medical situation in the least? I understand we are all battered, skittish Isles fans, but we need to not rush to conclusions on things we know nothing about. So, the last medical report I remember reading had him having knee complications–swelling, etc. That’s totally natural with knee work, especially meniscus tearing & repair. You know the team will spare no expense getting him back to 100%, so his treatment must be the best, right? There can be swelling even with the best care, and sometimes that needs to be drained. We know the team is being super-cautious; and, this is meniscus work, which are not as bad as structural/ligament problems.

He’s still our #1 goalie, not going to be traded (ha! unless to Jagr and the KHL), not going to retire, and is still a fantastic, game-changing fifth D man when he’s on. Shame on some of you for considering him dead weight. He started the All-Star game last year, or have we forgotten?

  17. avatar Kcods says:

    Who is Rick DiPietro?

  18. avatar Jellyroll says:

    He’s done. :(

  19. avatar beatlebailey says:

what a disaster – he probably needed MORE surgery on that knee that continued to swell…anyone want a goalie with 2 surgically repaird hips and 2 surgucally repaired knees for the next 11 years?? We got one for sale!!

  20. avatar Kevin Fitz says:

jerky – insurance does not cover dp’s contract because it is too long. however, if he does retire due to injury it would not count against our cap.

  21. avatar ken says:

when has he ever whined about playing time? The guy wants to play every game which is what an athlete should want. I never heard him whine about it. i dont get these made up stories about ricky.

  22. avatar 19 Isle in NJ 22 says:

    One word… YIKES!!!

  23. avatar Coach B says:

Time for the Islanders to plan as if DiPierto is not around. If he comes back fine but they can’t plan like he’ll be healthy.

  24. avatar thepolishprince says:

Has there been any announcement by Isles brass that Rick had surgery at all since being shut down? I vaguely remember that when the decision was announced the docs said surgery was a ways off since Rick had swelling. Maybe he had the surgery recently and thats why he’s on crutches? Maybe we shouldn’t assume just yet that Rick’s done? I totally get it that we should bring in a solid 1A this summer and maybe use one of our earlier 2nds at the draft for a top flight prospect but lets not write off #39 until we hear him say he’s done. I’m skeptical that he’ll ever play out his contract but hopeful he’ll be a force betwwen the pipes this coming season. Get well Ricky, we could use ya.

  25. avatar Moosie says:

It’s five months until training camp. He’s got time to recover from whatever he’s got.

  26. avatar Matt King Isles 13 says:

who is this rick dipietro we speak of?? I dont remember him.

  27. avatar Brother Rat says:

If they plan like DP’s not around, that we don’t have a franchise goaltender tying up millions a year, then a normal team would find a real substitute goaltender (Biron, Khabibulin?) rather than inexperienced stopgaps like Danis & MacDonald…but good luck getting them to come to the Isles. And good luck finding anyone else as gung-ho about LI and the Isles as he.

  28. avatar Bryan says:

No big deal only 12 more years.

  29. avatar jonw says:

I am not sure if the Isles or us as fans can count on him coming back and fulfilling his contract, not to mention be successful.
I have had major and minor operations on both my kness and in no way I am comparing myself to that of a professional athlete but I do know the recovery time is different for each, aswell as uncertain. The Isles and Rick DiPietro are going to say all the right things, but there is no way to tell if he can ever make a full recovery. One questions Isles and their fans have to ask themselves is;Can Rick DiPietro be counted on to play 60-65 games plus playoffs? One thing is for certain is Rick’s knees, hips, concussions, legth of contract and stellar personality make him an Islander for the next 11 years one way or another.

  30. avatar Brian in VA says:

See ya DP! It was nice knowing ya! Geez this franchise just gets set back everyday! If they Isles weren’t my team. I’d make fun of them all day everyday. What a Joke!

  31. avatar Jimmy Mac says:

Rick will never finish off his contract… he will be lucky to play another season.

I thought it would still count against the cap if he retired… CB can you clear that up please.

I feel bad for someone so young having so many surgeries. It doesn’t look good for him long term.

Unfortunately… they have to give him the oppurtunity to come back. They have so much invested in him.

We might see alot of Dani and MacDonald again next year.

  32. avatar JayK says:

I would be stunned if this contract is not insured. I think all of them of significant length carry that sort of protection.

  33. avatar Gloobenberg says:

It’s a shame. I don’t wish bad luck on anyone but this seems real bad.

We touched on this before but, if the Isles don’t take a goalie in this draft, I’d be very shocked.

  34. avatar dose says:

between the reappearance of lackluster, non-competitive effort, the last 2 losses at home, and now word that the goalie is still (or again) on crutches, the good kharma from a hopeful second half is out the window. they could have gone out on a high to hold onto until camp, but now? jeez. it’s always something with this team. excruciating.

  35. avatar Jon Mac says:

Will you guys please be patient! I know Rick’s injury situation has been frustrating, but give the guy a chance. He was an all star a season ago. You guys also cant beat up on Wang and Co. for signing him to such a long deal. Look at Detroit signing Franzen for 11 years. This is obviously a trend. Lets try to be positive for a few days and enjoy the fact that we are going to get a great player in the June Draft that could help return this team to a high level.

  36. avatar art says:

The answer is not drafting a goalie. You can field a young team and wait for maturity but you can’t play every night with one of three backups. There are plenty of available vets out there who wll be avaiable. How about Scott C of NJD? Please comment with other possible choices.

  37. avatar dose says:

“Will you guys please be patient! I know Rick’s injury situation has been frustrating, but give the guy a chance.”

huh? noone blames the goalie for his horrible luck, but “be patient???”
    what’ya kidding me?

  38. avatar Staten Islander says:

If in June they dont have better news, they’re going to have to plan to sign a legit stop gap until DP is healthy, if ever. mean time they will clearly have to spend one of these draft picks on drafting a big time goalie prospect.

  39. avatar Isles75 says:

    For whom the Bell Tolls…

…The Bell tolls for DiPietro. I have been saying this since his one and done game against the Leafs in December. Two bad hips and knee issues all before the ripe old age of 28. Hopefully, Ricky can come back 100% next year and stay that way, but I’m not very confident about that happening. If the worst case scenario goes down, hopefully Ricky has the class to do the right thing and retire, so the Isles don’t eat all that cap space for the remainder of his contract.

  40. avatar Spartiarti - RVC says:

Recently off crutches? wasnt the whole point of shelving him early was so he could tend to injury right away and take necessary steps. Now come fall he could be recoving again?

I really hope not. Isles need to look to get a good veteran backup. Both Danis and McDonald were primary reason why we lost last 2 games of season. I thought the guys played pretty well. It was just pretty clear that both Biron and Thomas are in different class.

  41. avatar Tony says:

I said it in November and I’ll repeat it again:

Rick Dipietro will never play another game for the Islanders, or anyone else for that matter.

  42. avatar Isles75 says:

Snow really has to be making other plans to draft and develop another No. 1 goalie to back stop this club in the near future. If he isn’t—and he is waiting on DP’s progress—then he is truly in a Wang’s World.

    Party time, all the time.

  43. avatar J. Co. says:

#12. Have you been a fan for more than one year or no? By the sounds of it, the past 82 games have been your first entre with the isles if you make a statement like that.

  44. avatar Blizzard says:

DP has played his last game….he will retire.

  45. avatar Pat says:

Looks like playing that Dec 26 game vs Toronto was really necessary…..

I am not willing to write Rick off – I think he has enough time to get healthy for the upcoming season…..Its months away. But if he needs additional surgery – I hope he has already had it.

They treat this guy like he is the second coming and top top secret stuff. He’s just not that good.

  46. avatar thepolishprince says:

I have to disagree with those saying that drafting another goalie is not part of the solution. The organization has no top flight goalie prospects and we have three 2nd rounders. I can’t see the Isles not using one of those on a potentially solid netminder. Keep in mind that any 18 yo goalie they draft isn’t going to see time with the big club for 2 maybe 3 years.

  47. avatar Isles75 says:

If DP did retire, I would only hope that Heatley would soon do the same. So Islanders fans don’t have to be reminded three or four games a year of what that moron Milbury did to this franchise on that sad draft day in 2000.

Some where in Boston, a village is missing it’s idiot.

  48. avatar Jimmy Mac says:

I’m sure it is insured so Wang won’t have to pay… but does it cost you cap space.

That is what I’m afraid of.

Wang should have to pay for giving the contract out in the first place.

All long contracts are just wrong. 5 years should be maximum.

  49. With the many surgeries Ricky D. has had in the last 1.5 years and 5 games played, until proven otherwise he is a non-entity. The AHL has a less demanding schedule, let him play down there for a while to see if these surgeries have fixed the problems. This team needs to draft a goaltender and sign a UFA veteran goaly.

  50. avatar puck-o says:

We are obviosly young!! How about one of our seconds for Bostons Tuuko Rask. Young and stuck behind Tim Thomas. Maybe theyll take there own second back for a young emerging goalie. This does not replace Rick it gives the organization depth and QUALITY depth.

  51. avatar Staten Islander says:

Does DP have a buy out claus?

  52. avatar Matt says:

#50, great idea. I don’t know if Boston would be willing to part with Rask but he would be a good option if Rick Dipietro were not able to play anymore. I hope Dipietro comes back for us and helps this team continue to move in the right direction though because I hate seeing players have to hang them up early due to injury.

  53. avatar Mikeo says:

To everyone saying thanks to Milbury for getting this guy and setting us back a decade; shut up! If and of course it is a big IF at this point, he stays healthy, Ricky has the ability to be a top goaltender in this league. Like others have said, did you forget he was the starting goalie for the all-star team last year?; which is were he hurt his other hip. If he can’t continue I believe his contract is insured, it was one of the reasons the deal wasn’t done earlier because they had to work out the insurance issues.

  54. avatar RichM says:

I hope he gets better. They need to get a goalie who can start 55 games a year. Danis or McDonald are not the answer. Why can’t Snow tell us his status now? He can’t say that Rick is on crutches? Crazy.

  55. avatar randy boyd says:

Is it so hard to belive that a guy who has had two hip surgeries and three (we think) knee surgeries in the past 2.5 years is on crutches? What is harder to believe is that he will ever return to a sembelance of his former developing self in net. Anyone who doesn’t think that the absolute most pressing free agent need for this team is to sign a legitimate number one NHL goaltender is not paying attention. Danis and McDonald have both shown us why some guys bounce around and never become #1′s in this league. Neither can be plan “B” behind DP next season.

  56. avatar Kallur28 says:

Trade the late #1 to Vancouver for Corey Schneider. The Canucks will eventually trade him anyway since they have Luongo.

  57. avatar Isles75 says:

    You Shut up Mikeo!

Only kidding. But really, probably 90% of all Islanders fans and myself included, knew on draft day 2000, that what Milbury did was going to blow up in are faces. What he did wasn’t even in anybody’s thought process. It defies all logic.

  58. avatar NYI FAN says:

If he is using crutches, that is not a good sign of long term recovery. There is a chance that DP has had some sort of procedure very recently. Maybe as a result of overuse during rehab.

  59. avatar jonw says:

I would rather see them hold on to their draft picks and sign a ufa like Manny Fernandez. He has been the backup in Boston the last couple and proably will not re-sign due to Thomas. He made 4+ mill last year but that number should come down, plus he will be 35 when the season starts so they do not have to sign him long term.It all depends on what Wang/Snow are willing to spend on the goalie position.

  60. avatar art says:

POlishprince #46 You say we should draft a goalie but then end up saying he wouldn’t be ready for 2 to 3 years, Sounds like we need to get a vet? I suggested Scott C of the NJD, Any other ideas in ether land?

  61. avatar Frank says:

    DP!! DP!!

  62. avatar mike says:

I have a broken foot and crutches are a pain in the ass. This guy must have had more surgery? He is DONE. I see it now and with the first pick the Isles pick a goalie that can speek manderin chinese.

  63. avatar Staten Islander says:

i’m beginning to think that DP stands for Doesn’t Play

  64. avatar Pat says:

What makes it sort of funny was Milbury on Hockey Night this Saturday (Hotstove?) – inferring that DiPietro might be a bust. Who drafted him Mikey ?

Bring on Tavares ! ( not to play goal – just to focus on the day ahead)

  65. avatar Isles75 says:

#62 you stop that type of talk right now!

Keep that up and you’ll jinx us.

  66. avatar eric says:

    one word, clemmensen.

  67. avatar thepolishprince says:

I actually said earlier that we need to draft a goalie AND pick up a solid 1A in July…

  68. avatar B-Red says:

Number 12, I hope you’re being sarcastic because if not you are an absolute idiot

  69. avatar jonw says:

Clemmensen is 31 and this year for the first time in his career he played more then 13 games. He had a really good half a year(since he only played 40 games)on a really good team. Will that translate into sucess on a Islander team which finished last overall?

  70. avatar Mikey says:

A few months ago the specialist said DP needed 6 weeks of rest before they could determine whether additional surgery was necessary. It’s now obvious that Rick’s knee did not improve, and he got another surgery. I can’t imagine that he is likely to ever return to form.

My only hope is that Rick has the good sense to retire. His cap hit will be wiped off the books if he retires before the age of 35 for medically necessary reasons. This is a big loophole in the CBA that Detroit is currently exploiting with the Zetterberg/Franzen deals. Isles need to take a top goalie prospect in June (maybe late first or early second round) and spend $2-3 million this summer for a 1A goalie on a 2-3 year contract. This will buy us some time until our goalie prospects develop. This is a major setback for the franchise.

  71. avatar Outside says:

the isles will announce the signing of the first sumo goalie that cvoers the entire net, but then the nhl announces they will enlarge the nets, as to screw us over..

  72. avatar Brother Rat says:

No to Fernandez. He’s only had one season of being a #1 goalie and he’ll be 35 next year. Would be a stopgap to nothing…

Maybe to Clemmensen–a perennial AHLer, has only part of this season with non-backup NHL experience, but he did play well. When the Devils are humming, you can put anyone between the pipes though.

Rask is interesting–I wonder how his relationship with Gordon. He’s good and maturing, but didn’t he go ape on the ice last month and throw his stick? Nutball–or fiery competitor? We probably could get him with a high pick; worth looking into.

Dubie–wasn’t spectacular this year; worth bringing him back?

  73. avatar pete debenedetto says:

    Someone clarify this for me…..DiPietro…2 hip surgeries?….knee surgery?…..expected to play 60-65 games a season….still on crutches?….

folks….this man is not coming back anytime soon. If and when he does, will be a shell of himself. I would not be the bit shocked if Rick DiPietro is done as an NHL goalie…and the Islanders pull off a trade for a number 1 with some team. (Not suggesting they are trading the first pick)…but possibly some other picks…..

again….Rick DiPietro…in my humble opinion…is done and will not return to the ice…at least not for the New York Islanders.

  74. avatar eric says:

it never ends with this team.

  75. avatar Jim says:

You guys are hilarious. When was the last time a professional athletes career was ended due to a torn meniscus?

  76. avatar hack says:

biggest bust ever…the sad part is he couldve played better when he was healthy if it wasnt for his enormous ego and obsession with handling the puck. he has the skills to be a top 10 goalie in the nhl if he just stayed in the net. this is another reason i hope the isles will take tavares, just so he can replace dp as the face of the franchise and we can just move on

  77. avatar Brother Rat says:

Wait, so if our 27-yr old star, franchise player (as of 6 months ago) who’s edging into his prime playing years gets injured and takes a bit longer to recover than originally anticipated–although we know nothing and have heard nothing–and that recovery is during an offseason, we all should call for his trade or retirement to wipe his salary off the books and move on?

This is ludicrous. Is there any argument that a healthy DP is lightyears better than anyone else we have in uniform, Bridgeport, or the system, or have any hope of drafting or signing? How is the best bet NOT to hope for his return to form–asap, but hopefully sometime next year?

Perhaps Cam Neely he ain’t (yet), but how about some support for the guy? I’m glad Garth keeps his condition under wraps, if only to spare him further injustice from all these armchair orthopedists.

  78. avatar Kallur28 says:

He makes Mike Palmateer (who flopped around like a fish out of water) look like one of those rod hockey goalies.

  79. avatar mLemb says:

Obviously there was alot of implied sarcasm that went over alot of heads…

in all honesty I don’t think he has done anything to really be considered a prima donna or anything of the sort. He signed the contract he was offered, can’t really blame him for that. I also can’t blame him for wanting to play. Personally, as an athlete regardless of injury or sickness you want to go out and help your team as much as you can. I see how this can become a fault if taken too far, but I think we really need to lay off Rick for the time being and just let his actions on the ice next season determine what we think of him for here on out. That being said if he can’t preform next season because of an injury to his knee or hip he is probably done.

  80. avatar Joe says:

Reminds me so much of the Brett Lindros saga. We drafted him because we thought he would be as good as his brother. He signed a big contract and then all he did was get one concussion after another. He eventually had to retire. Sounds like DP is heading in the same direction.

  81. avatar jonw says:

Franchise player? Did I miss something? Was Ricky D on his way to a Hall of Fame carrer when his injuries starting taking their toll.Don’t get me wrong he is a good goalie that had a potential to be a really good one. It’s not just one injury that has people on edge.He has knee and hip injury’s not ot mention his prior concussions. That being said yes he is the best goalie in the orginazation and no you can not say for certain the he can come back healty as ever and no one else can say that he can’t.Only time will tell.

  82. avatar Brother Rat says:

    75-absolutely!

Dr. Hershman, one of the team orthopedists, pronounced DP’s hips as healed in January–these later surgeries are for his lateral meniscus…cartilage can swell and take a long time to heal.

Don’t folks realize that if DP was healthy this year, we certainly would not in a position to get either Tavares or Hedman? Going forward, this lost season was the best one for him to miss…so here’s to a speedy and enduring recovery.

  83. avatar doc says:

Tim Thomas flops around pretty good and seems to be doing alright.

Lundqvist flops… he seems to do alright.

What do you want DiPietro to do… not make the save… just so he isn’t “flopping” around?

    DOC

  84. avatar Frei says:

Rick is the biggest symbol of Failure, certainly in the history of this team, probably in the history of the NHL. He’s an arrogant, stupid cowboy of a failure and is the greatest symbol of Mike Milbury ever to come near the NHL. The best thing for this team would be for him to crack his head in the shower or be deemed physically unable to play so they could recoup a bit on the insurance and just be done with him. I hate Rick, I hope he never, ever wears any NHL jersey ever again, useless cowboy failure that he is.

  85. avatar kallur28 says:

Lundqvist drops down, that’s what a butterfly goalie does. Ricky flops from post to post. He takes himself completely out of the play.

  86. avatar Lorne says:

At the 2000 draft party when Sanjay Kumar announced they were drafting Dipietro over Heatley or Gaborik I was ready to raise hell. Here we are 9 years later, it still looks like total failure. Pretty sad that we still have to clean up Milbury’s mess. Even the most passionate fan is fed up.

  87. avatar jim says:

as #81 said, he is a good goalie who can be a real good goalie but he is never going to be great, even without the injury issues. so what if he was an all-star, so have plenty of other players who weren’t that good. he will never be a top 5 goalie in this league and even top 10 is a bit of a stretch. basically he is an average starting goalie in this league, no better. which is sad considering everything surrounding him from day 1 with the draft/luongo trade and his contract. signing a UFA who can handle the starting duties next season is a must, as is getting a young potential #1 in the system via draft or trade.

  88. avatar geduffer says:

I suppose that I should say that I can’t believe the negativity coming from so many people with little or no justification.

Ricky is a true #1, franchise type goalie when healthy. When he hasn’t it’s been a result of the butterfly style that has become THE style in the league (in spite of Brodeur). Hip troubles are natural from the butterfly. As for the concussions, they come from trying too hard. I believe Ricky’s contract is insured for 6 seasons at a time, but a rolling 6 years so that once he completes year 9, insurance should cover completely.

Cowboy? lmao…can’t help but laugh everytime I read that one. It’s sweetened a bit by the whole “wishing harm on a fellow human being”. The guy plays hockey for a living, is it necessary to wish harm on him? Did he do something to you personally?

He pretty much held this team in the playoff race last year, until he got hurt. I have no doubt that if he can get healthy and stay that way he’ll win us some games on his own.

Martin Brodeur has said DP is a good goalie…I think thats pretty high praise coming from the all-time best. Plus being in division he certainly had a good amount of looks at him. Btw I don’t think Martin is the end all be all on the matter, but who is going to say they’d be a better analyst of skill then the guy who is the best?

i don’t know if i believe that dp will ever be back, but to wish him harm is just wrong and how does anyone know what goes on behind the scenes, we only know what we are fed by the media, who only know what they are fed by management.

let’s just hope next season is better.

and garth, please don’t screw up the draft.

(81)… Yeah, you did – 15 year contract not ring a bell? While we’re at it, before Streit arrived, Rick was also this team’s only All-Star (regardless how some of you want to belittle that) and Olympian. All of that = franchise player, whether you like it or not.

(84)… You’re just a foul human being. Sorry, CB, but it had to be said. No place for wishing that kind of harm on anyone, especially toward someone who had the audacity to get injured while giving his all for our team.

Some of you really need to check your heads.

Hall of fame goalie. Ha. Give me a break. He’s never had a season of stats (EITHER GAA or sv%) in the top 5 of the league. The majority of his seasons have had mediocre stats, most of which have been in the lower half of starting goalies stats. Pull your head out of your azz. He’d have to get significantly better than he is now, and then maintain that for many years to come. He was absolutely not on his way to a hall of fame career.

  93. avatar MattP says:

to 75 – yeah, you’re right, typically a torn meniscus doesn’t end a players career. But it’s also not supposed to keep a player out for more 6 weeks, either. 3 consecutive surgeries? Still on crutches?

There are obviously bigger problems there.

Maybe Charles Wang can ask Ricky what he wants to be when he grows up, and make him co-GM

#91 15 year contract = franchise player or bad managing?
Incase you weren’t sure every team gets represented at the all star game.If you bothered to read past the first sentence you would have saw I said he is good with the potential to be really good.I wasn’t blasting DP I was responding to another post.

  96. Because the 00 part of the plug is the center, the flares at each end are larger than the center so if you really want them in i recomend buying one single taper of the next size up and put that in briefly to stretch it a tiny bit biger (dont go all the way up the taper, just a little past 00) then pop it in.
