TB win + COL win + Isles regulation loss tonight will allow everyone to finally get a good night’s sleep tonight…and will allow ALL Isles fans to root for their home team once again from here on out!
-
Hope this doesn’t mean the team is saying “No Tanks” to John Tavares or Victor Hedman?
-
Yea Bergenheim! Would like to See him on a line with Jonensuu
-
Glad to hear Sean will be back. Maybe he can play for Team Finland again.
-
I dont know why everyone is so worried. Ok the islanders beat tampa and made it interesting for about 24 hours but then the avs won. The islanders will not go better than 2-2 the rest of the way. Carolina and pittsburgh are tough teams at home. The Islanders are getting a top 2 draft pick(there is no way they shouldnt pick tavares #1 or hedman #2)PLEASE NO TRADES SNOW!
-
I’m glad Joensuu is getting the call up again. The big lug is starting to grow on me. I have to laugh at the comments that Snow has a penchant to trade down in the draft for picks. He did it once when our prospect pool was barren. No way he trades the #1. I doubt the #2 is on the table either.
-
what a waste to have fritz in the lineup. he can’t skate and he’s not even a great fighter. he’s not good enough to dress in the AHL, but is somehow good enough for the NHL? Give the game to someone who is, or even just might be, part of the future. fritz certainly is not.
-
I like what joensuu brings to the table. This guy looks like he is a keeper as well as all the other young guys on the team. It is nice to see one of our prospects that is 6’4″ and plays a physical game. I havent been this optimistic about our young players in a long time.
I remember thinking in 1999 that we really had a good young core of players with Luongo, Connolly, Jokinen, Pyatt, Chara and Brewer. All of those guys turned out to be good/great/teriffic NHL players……. just not for the isles.
If we can keep this core together and not get impatient or go for the quick fix, we may be able to really do something here.
-
big night tonight guys, if we r lucky and everything goes our way this thing could b over tonight! here’s to John Tavares and victor Hedmen!
-
i say we go 2-2 in our final four.
-
Normally I can’t stand Fritz… Tonight I hope he gets 20:00 minutes.
-
play fritz on the pp just once….Id like to see what he looks like in front of the net….it would be funny to see someone try to move him…..
….on a side note, just got me 10 greatest games DVDs….can’t wait to watch.
-
I’m guessing Fritz was brought up so we don’t have to call up too many guys from Bridgeport that have a future with the Isles. We don’t want to burn the young guys out right before the playoffs.
-
Or we win tonight and the panic starts all over again
-
Exactly Richie66!
It’s going to be an anxiety filled night! I better start drinking the second i get home!
Tavares/Hedman or Bust!
-
Fritzie is not going to play another game for the Port this year. I do envision him going out in a blaze of glory vs the Cryers and the Bruins (if they dress any goons) We have to lose two games “to control our own destiny” so dressing Fritz is one way to help.
-
I agree with #4, Joensuu and Bergenheim on the same line might be interesting, get the Finnish line going.
-
Weight just signed to a 1-year extension!
-
Love the Weight signing. Guy truly WANTS to be an Islander and help the franchise. Glad he’ll be a part of things next year when (hopefully) Tavares or Hedman will be around…LETS GO ISLES!
-
Yeah 19, I just heard that too. Great news. He is a proven leader, and will of course guide the kids and teach Bailey how to win a dang face-off. He also has proven he can put up some big points if he is healthy, and really can control the play.
-
just got the text on the Weight signing..
GREAT MOVE IMO!!!!!
-
Yay Bergie and Yay Dougie!
-
is KO sitting out another one? it may have been posted here, just wondering.
-
Hmmmm, just a thought.. Maybe this is a little Isles Insight that they will pick Tavares (that is, if they get the #1 pick.) Mentoring and onward development!
-
Glad to see Dougie will be back for at least 1 more year. Does this mean no Tavares? LOL
Seriously tho….anyone check out nhl.com’s mock drafts? I think we all have our answer on who we should pick at #1.
-
Isles need to ease Streit and Bergenheim back into the lineup… for more than one reason.
-
our next year’s 1 year captain — Doug Weight.. keeping the seat warm…
-
Love the Weight signing! Guy is class all the way. . obviously wanted to be here and still adds a great deal to this team on and off the ice — even toughness these days!
-
Doug Weight signed…I can hear it now:
“With the first overall pick, the New York Islanders are proud to select, from MoDo, Victor Hedman”
-
How about Snow trading the First pick for Vinny? or maybe to ATL for kovalchuk? Snow might have another blockbuster up his sleeve.
Imagine vinny to okposo…and then imagine neilson as the fourth line C behind Bailey, Weight & Vinny? -
anyone have a solid suggestion for a bar in lower Manhattan to watch the game tonight on? looking to catch the game with some loyal company.
-
TooRude… My favorite hangout… St. Marks Ale House, on St Marks, between 2nd and 3rd.
-
Great signing….but if you watched the Pre-game from the other nite..he hinted and tried to backtrack when they asked about next year and the kids and he said “WE” are working on something that “WE” all will need next year…He then looked in the camera like..hint hint..
-
seven more sleeps until we find out if we get to choose in the Tavhed sweeps, or if we get the “leftovers”
-
(31) No no no.
I don’t want a 28 year old who has 5 or six good years left in him. I want the 19 year old who is gonna get great and have 12 consecutive good years for this team. Trading the first away for a current star is exactly the mindset that would get this team in trouble for the future.
-
How about the 3rd overall pick for Vinny? would Tampa make that trade? Is anybody else here preparing themselves for the worst?
-
Every scout, every mock draft has us taking Tavares(as long as we have the #1).
Who are we to say they are wrong?
-
Jim,
No thanks I want a young gun for their entire career. -
Glad to see Bergy back in there. As far as the first pick I don’t think we can lose either way. Tavares = Instant Offense. Hedman = Defense. It’s a win/win situation. Either way we get stronger on the D side or our Offense becomes a serious threat. Why is everyone worrying? I agree with you #36. DON’T trade the pick for a current star, pick one of the kids and let him develop with the other kids.
-
Alex (2)-Don’t count on Colorado tonight, they’re playing the Sharks.
Eric (4) – You’re right, what center wouldn’t like a couple of Finnishers on his line.
L.J. (19) – Very cool if true (and I believe you).
Outside (28) – I don’t think Doug will be captain. IMO, I believe Hunter or Witt will be captain, the other will be one A and Weight will be the other. When anyone gets hurt, Streit would be next or Park.
Justin M. (30) – What would be so bad about that. You build from the net out. The Islanders wouldn’t have won those 4 Cups if they hadn’t made that same announcement at the 1973 draft, selecting Denis Potvin. John Tavares might be good, but it won’t end the world if we don’t get him.
jim from St. James -(31)(37) – No. Won’t happen. Vinny wouldn’t come here, he’s got a movement clause taking effect 7/1. The Isles won’t trade the number 1 pick, unless they can get a huge return to move back to #3 and pick Duchene.
Gloobenberg (38) – Maybe Garth Snow. He’ll make his own choice.
-
Garth absolutely MUST pick Tavares! Our defense is fine- and young. We need to score goals.
-
toorude (32): I work in Lower Manhattan as well and have gotten laughed at when asking bartenders to put the Islanders on. It’s mostly in good fun though.
-
Mick Vukota – made the mistake of asking an old school tender with white hair and the thick irish accent too close to MSG to turn on the game and he looked at me and screamed “this aint f*ing uniondale!”
-
These next 3 games are very losable. Hurricanes, Penguins and Flyers will be fighting for playoff positioning. So, they won’t lay down. They will come out to win.
-
toorude (44): LOL – Try asking one of them if they could switch a rugby or soccer match to hockey! Anyhow, if you’re familiar with Stone Street there are a couple of decent places to watch the game, they shouldn’t be too crowded since it’s Tuesday.
-
Pete (#13)
I agree – put Fritz in front of the net like Boston does with Chara!
-
Yeah … lets get Vinny … geeze … screw our first round pick … Vinny makes the Isles an instant contender … why … look what he’s done for Tampa(sarc)… :: scratching head :: exactly how does a player in the prime of his career help the Isles down the road.
The timing just isn’t right for Vinny .. I think that’s how the Isles got in trouble before … they took some really good players (Peca & Yashin) who were only good enough to get the Isles to the playoffs before the Isles were developed enough to make something happen … and the sin is … the Isles gave up the core of their youth to acquire those aging vets.
-
Glad to some of the boys get back to playing … it will be interesting to see how Bergy looks after an extended injury.
******
In about 1 week, 3 hours and 20 minutes … give or take 15 mins … We will know where we stand on draft day. -
Why is Rangers’ Game Night on when the Isles’ Pregame should be on?? The channel guide even says Isles Pregame.
-
IMO Lecavalier is overated. First, his contract last till 2020 and we already have one of those, no need for 2. Second he has had 2 90+ point seasons, but has also had 7 less than 80 point campaigns in his career, and that is not worth his 7 mill cap hit. Lastly he wasnt as instrumental to the Lighning’s cup run last year, Bulin and St. Louis were far superior, hell Ruslan Fedontenko was as much of an impact on that team as Lecavalier that postseason.
I’ll pass on any deal involving Lecavalier. Let the rags trade for another horrible contract
-
scratch that, not last year, I meant in 2003-2004
-
19 Isles, we are stuck with the channel guide channel again. What cr@p! It is time that SNY works out a deal with the Wanger or something So much for the HDTV…

Four games to go, here’s to not getting anymore than four points the rest of the way.
