  1. avatar Kevin Fitz says:

Hey CB. Any recent news on Silli? How is his hip doing? Is his career all but over at this point or could he possibly play somewhere next season? Maybe a late season signing for a team that needs a center that can win big faceoffs.

  2. avatar shappy says:

Hey CB,How is Figren doing in Bport? How dos his game look? Is he getting into more games with the team?

  3. avatar Frank James says:

Chris if you had to bet on it would you say the TOH is going to basically kill the Lighthouse plan and try to forge ahead with a renovation?

Because if that is the case I cannot blame Mr. Wang if he decides to sell to Balsillie or to KC.

I myself feel that we are doomed.

  4. avatar BR says:

CB – do you see any changes in the Isles coaching staff (assistants) this summer? Might some or all of them be “encouraged” to move on? Obviously, Gordon didn’t have the chance to hire his own assistants, and there is talk that Chabot might be one of the candidates for the Sea Dogs (QMJHL) head coaching job. Special teams continue to be a weak spot for this team, and it might be nice to add a defence specialist as well.

  5. avatar Eye on the island says:

    Cb,

I’d like your assessment of bettmans reign as commish.

    Thanks

  6. avatar admin says:

Holy crap. 5 questions and the doors weren’t even supposed to be open til 7 pm! I’m in the press box woofing down some food. I’ll be back around anthem time. Thanks, everyone…CB

  7. avatar BillyIsle says:

CB- is there any news we can expect in regards to the future of this blog. Losing this site might put some fans over the edge!

  8. avatar 318-J-1 says:

the refs in tonight’s game are #30 mike hasenfratz & #36 dean morton. and the linesmen are #38 scott driscoll & #89 steve miller. lets see how they do.

  9. avatar todd says:

    CB,
    Lets have some fun,

    Assume the Isles win Tavheduch,
    Assume the Isles draft Tavares,
    Assume the Isles resign Weight,
Assume at the start of next season all Isles centers are healthy,

Which are the Isles 4 centers next year?

Tavares, Nielsen, Weight, Bailey, Park, Thompson

I really cant see any of the first 4 playing on the 4th line or even a checking line.

    Thoughts ?

  10. Id love to talk about the game but were being treated to this lovely tennis tournament by MSG..thanks MSG.

    *sarcasm off*

I know the million dollar question is if were lucky enough to pick in the top 2, who are the Isles hoping they will get, however Billy Jaffe was on NHL Live a few weeks ago talking about the team with the top pick looking to trade it possibly. Im assuming its pretty safe to say that we wont see the Isles move out of the top 2 picks if theyre lucky enough to be there and that he was most likely saying that about the other bottom 4 teams? Ease my mind a little Chris.

  11. avatar C. Felix says:

Part of me feels sorry for you CB, with all the questions you’re gonna get pounded with…but you asked for it.

    Here’s mine.

Wang’s drop dead date of next hockey season…any idea what that entails? Selling the team, exploring KC or Hamilton, exploring Queens???

  12. avatar Swan says:

C.B., I love the articles with insight into the Team and prospects. Much less depressing than looking at the race for Tavheduch.

Thank you for your leadership on the TOH issue.

Season’s not yet over, but what grade would you give Gordon this year?

  13. avatar michael says:

    ya tennis? wtf?

  14. avatar DP says:

I’m not into tennis, anyone know how close this is to being over?

  15. avatar Chris S says:

MSG hates the Isles! What’s up with this tennis BS?

  16. avatar michael says:

they’re not doing this to the rangers, they’re on msg and it seems to be uninterupted.. whats messed up is that there isn’t even tennis on the channel guide for 6pm.. or 630, or 530 for that matter, how did it come to this?

  17. avatar Obs says:

CB, Left my email to Kate Murray. Again writing my displeasure with her position and left my real phone number. Lets see if I get a call back. I hope everyone floods her office with phone calls and emails.

  18. avatar Lawrence Teller says:

    Pre-empted for Tennis – AWESOME!!!!

  19. avatar Obs says:

    Tennis????? TENNIS!!!! wtf

  20. avatar Obs says:

Best sport in the world? Not even close. Get this junk off the box!!!

  21. avatar Michael says:

For those of you who are at the game . . . we are sitting at home watching a tennis match right now.

  22. avatar Obs says:

    On a purple tennis court..

  23. avatar Steve-O says:

Smyth and Lecavalier are out for the season…(conveniently?) This is going to be a tough stretch for us…

  24. avatar Peter Puck says:

From what I can see its live
    finally the crap is off

  25. avatar admin says:

Grabbed a saugage and peppers and came back to this. I’m told the NYI called MSG a few times. Don’t know why it happened. It’s happened before, but never for so long. Glad to see they got to the game at puck-drop. I’m on the pre-game show Saturday, so it will probably happen again! CB

  26. avatar islesfan says:

I sent a “nice” message to MSG about the tennis crap.

They would NEVER preempt the Rags.

    Here’s the address

    msgnetpr@msgnetwork.com

I guess we should be “happy” they switched to the game, I guess.

  27. avatar admin says:

    (1) Kevin Fitz: I’ve talked to Mike a few times, but don’t have a medical update. I will stand by my prediction that, unfortunately, he has played his last NHL game. He’ll be 38 years old when camp opens in Saskatoon. He played 10 games this year. The 2 hip surgeries he’s had in the last year makes the DiPietro stuff look like child’s play. Tough to picture a comeback. Hope I’m wrong…CB

  28. avatar Madchef says:

so CB is the Queens thing even a possibility or just some cockamamie dream thought up by isles fans desperate to keeps our team on LI?? Judging by recent events and isles luck it does not look good (the prospect of the isles staying on LI)

  29. avatar Islanders1984 says:

Avalanche must be tanking, Ryan Smyth always played through pain, the guy took a puck off the teeth and came out the next shift. This is bs, Bettman better rigged this lottery like he did for the penguins in the crosby draft

  30. avatar IslesAl says:

CB-Since the owners of the KC arena already have ownership ties to the Kings, is there a group in mind to buy the Isles. I can not imagine Mr Wang has any interest in owning a team in KC. And not sure how they would replace the TV revenue out there. Better lease yes, but seems at best to be a wash on the P&L.

  31. @ Todd (#9): Weight has played wing before (particularly with Carolina). Don’t know if he’d want to do it again, but if he kept his spot on the PP point…

Also, sometimes teams bring an 18-year-old center along slowly and start him on the wing. It’s an interesting “dilemma,” but I wouldn’t let it alter plans. I’d rather pay Weight to return (and take up some mandatory cap room) than some other late-career vet who only picks LI as a last resort.

  32. avatar Iron Islander77 says:

CB, If the ISlanders were to move to Queens, what impact woulf that have on the territory fees paid to the Rag$? Would it change or is it covered under the current agreement? Also – could MSG influence against the move to Queens in any way?

  33. avatar admin says:

    (2) Shappy: Figren has played just 2 of 8 games since arriving in Bridgeport. He takes part in every practice and is learning the system. I’ve heard good things about his work habits, but obviously not much to go on in terms of game performance…CB

  34. avatar Iron Islander77 says:

Wow, I should have turned on spell check! LOL

  35. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

Well gotta jet .. 0-0 for now … looks like I’ll miss the rest of the game … just got off the phone with the coach who runs our training camp and some practices … he’s seen John Tavares many times … he works for the Petes … he said John Tavares reminds him of Bossy … instinctively finds the spot where the puck is going to be … incredible hand eye coordination … the knock on his skating is that his skating isn’t as incredible as the rest of his skills … also just like Bossy. I’m going to pick him up for the game … I’ll try to get his take on Duchene

  36. avatar TuxTax says:

Where does Trent Hunter fit in on the team next year? Seems like Hunter doesnt really fit into what the team is doing…I know he is a hard worker, but I just dont see him in the Go Go System?

  37. avatar islesfan says:

Boy, we really missed Streit on the 1st PP, (and Okposo).

It’s so hard not to root for the Isles with all the Habs fans there cheering.
I remember last time we played them, and how annoying the Habs fans were back in November when we blew a 4-1 lead in the 3rd period.

  38. avatar Mark in Ottawa says:

    Queens ? How real a possibility ?

Is it not a cheaper alternative to the lighthouse ?

    Especially for Charles Wang ?

  39. avatar Fist of Gillies says:

you’ve been pretty silent on what you *think* will happen with the Isles now that the LH is seemingly dead.

what can you share with us given the new information the last week plus?

  40. avatar Brooks Simpson says:

What do the Isles need to build on/acquire/shore up with their other draft picks? And are they interested in going after these undrafted FAs?

  41. avatar Islanders1984 says:

First of Gilles, i don’t see the LH project as dead, in fact if this stupid petition she has fails to get allot of signitures I think she wil be forced to pass the ligthhouse project

  42. avatar Pete M says:

Since we didn’t have a pre-game what is the story on Okposo?

  43. avatar Islanders1984 says:

CB if isles do finish last and then lose the lottery do you see them trying to trade up to get back in the one spot. If so what do you think they would trade?

  44. avatar admin says:

Goal Koivu. Friends: I hope you understand that for some major topics or any others I can’t answer in under 100 words, I will hold on to for bigger stories on the site. As for Qs like who will the NYI draft at the top of the first round, I will wait patiently like the rest of you to see what happens in the lottery. That coverage will carry me the rest of April!…CB

  45. avatar Dan C says:

Justin DiBenedetto only finished this past regular season 11 points behind John Tavares. If Tavares is supposed to be the #1 overall pick in the upcoming draft and make an immmediate impact, what is wrong with DiBenedetto? why is nobody talking about him making the isles team next year?

  46. avatar dhasy22 from virginia beach says:

he’s already a year or two older

  47. avatar stopthepain says:

CB – any idea if sitting DP for the whole year will allow his concussion problem to improve? In other words, does DP being concussion free for so long mean that he is less likely in the future to suffer concussions?

  48. avatar MT says:

I love Jaffe’s undeniable man cruch on Jackman…and Habs score

  49. avatar lovin lethbridge says:

CB – any update on Tyler Bozak? TSN seems to think it will be a Canadian team (read Leafs) landing him

  50. avatar TIM says:

sounds like a bunch of screaming hab fans are there, watching the game on TSN and when the habs touch the puck sounds like a bunch of girls are there. Good turn out tonight CB? and are there lots of hab fans in attendance

  51. avatar admin says:

(3 and 40) Frank: yes, they are trying to kill it – or at least stall.

FOG: Just because Kate Murray started her own Islanders website doesn’t mean the project is dead. It’s a huge setback, and more than a little depressing, but it’s come too far (Nassau approved 16-2, against some odds) to be considered dead in the water…CB

  52. avatar Moose says:

CB, if we sign Gilroy or draft Hedman, any chance we move Martinek or Sutton?

  53. avatar Islanders1984 says:

Great no tonly tennis over takes the pre game show, but now we have to have Stan fischler in between periods

  54. avatar eye on the island says:

is there a game thread tonight?

  55. avatar Pete M says:

Speaking of Man crushes, if Stan could have jumped those old bones up into Schneider’s arms he would have.

  56. avatar derek says:

CB, what are the chances you hook up and try to get another exclusive out of Komi. I’m sure you can get a better article (read: chances of him coming here as an UFA) than Logie did.

  57. avatar admin says:

    (55) This is the game thread. It’s the all-everything thread. Doesn’t just have to be questions. It’s fully interactive amongst all readers! CB

  58. avatar alex says:

    CB

D.B. said something on his website about NY state annexing the coliseum and making it it’s own town. This would allow the project builders to bypass the ToH completely. Do you think that it’s an option?

  59. avatar Fist of Gillies says:

CB – I hope you’re right, but everything Kate Murray has said and (not) done says she’s not interested in seeking a solution by way of realistic compromise.

To me, she’s clearly setting it up for big, fat “NO” at or before the Wang imposed deadline. If she was interested in making this work she would have reason to at least appear to be cooperating with Wang/Suozzi.

  60. avatar eye on the island says:

    ok good, thanks cb

i mean where else was i going to put my snazzy comment about martinek scoring another goal for the other team

  61. avatar admin says:

    (4) I would expect changes on the coaching staff, yes. There almost always are. Gordon inherited the staff. John Chabot and Dan Lacroix are good hockey men who I’m sure will have opportunities, or they could conceivably stay with the NYI. I agree, as I’ve written many times, that a fulltime coach with NHL expereince at D would be useful. Don’t want Victor to come here without someone who could really show him the ropes…CB

  62. avatar MACCH says:

Hey CB… who do you see being back next year out of Weight, Hilbert, Danis, JoeyMac, and any other free agent I forgot?

  63. avatar Jim says:

Bob McKenzie says the Islanders should take Hedman. Ferraro and Dreger say Tavares. Dreger says Snow was in on trying to sign Hanson, and is in the mix for Bozak and Gilroy.

  64. Nice of McKenzie to get in a Kansas City joke in there while he was at it.

And Dreger says “Snow talked to Gilroy in the last 24 hrs., and was told he’s shutting down talks to concentrate on the Frozen Four.” FWIW.

  65. avatar admin says:

    (64) Did the Lottery already happen and only Bob, Ray and Darren have the results? Glad to hear the Islanders finished 30th and won…CB

  66. avatar Islander505 says:

Mckenzie…all class. The one guy says “Isles need to sell tickets, they’ll pick Tavares….Mckenzie says “They won’t need to sell tickets in KC..they’ll take hedman”.
    Screw Canada

  67. avatar Pat says:

Hey CB, our back goaltending situation has been debated now for some time. It seems to me McDonald and Danis are pretty even. My prefrence whould be to try and sign Clemmenson who basically saved the Devils season early on. I think he could be a guy who could back up DP or even be a No. 1 if need be. His salary is about the same as McDonald and Danis this year, and is only a couple of years older. I think he would be more reliable than either of them. And boy do you think he wouldn’t like to stick it to the Devils. What’s your take.

  68. avatar David Lee says:

hey CB- whats for dessert? Any chance Wrecker hangs with the club full time next year?

  69. (64) In their defense, they prefaced with “If the Islanders have the 1st pick, what do they do?”

On the other hand, TSN’s coverage has been all “lowly Islanders” vs. “wow the Habs are gonna die if they lose.”

  70. avatar Jim says:

CB – they did the same mock draft with Colorado and TB.

  71. avatar admin says:

    (5) Eye on the island: That’s a tough one to answer in this forum, but let’s just say for now that it has not been an unqualified success…CB

  72. avatar Jim says:

McGuire has been somewhat complimentary of the Isles, at least more than he usually is.

  73. avatar Fist of Gillies says:

    Tangay rings one up!

    3-0

  74. avatar Steve Junker says:

    Test …

  75. avatar Ray says:

    (62) CB, are you finally tipping your hand or just being sarcastic. ;)

  76. avatar AM says:

CB, Where’s Al D’amato in this whole mess?

  77. avatar eye on the island says:

cb 72- thanks, i totally understand, did not really grasp how this was going to work

but i definitely look forward to a patented point blank post on the subject after the season

  78. avatar Justin says:

This game is exactly what I don’t want in the final few games, a poor effort where the young players show nothing for the future. Though missing Streit and Okposo must be really tough for a team with little firepower.

  79. avatar Pete M says:

    This is getting ugly

  80. avatar admin says:

    (7) Billyisle: Thanks for asking about the future of the blog. Very up in the air right now. By Monday, and as early as tomorrow, I hope to post a state-of-the-blog address…CB

  81. avatar eye on the island says:

as for the game, did we even stand a chance w/ our two best players out?

as long as BOTH ko and streit are out, i wouldnt worry about tampa and lanche

  82. avatar Brooks Simpson says:

4-0. Last place safe for another night. :)

  83. avatar Islanders1984 says:

Ray I don’t see Hedman being chosen if we get the # 1 Pick, If I go by what my season ticket person said Isles are thinking Tavares and Tavares only if they get teh first pick

  84. avatar Jim says:

Poor Danis, Isles are hanging him out to dry. However, I still think Joey Mac is better, I’m going to buck the trend and say Keep Joey.

  85. avatar TuxTax says:

Best thing about this game is the Canadian hotties in the crowd!

  86. avatar Pete M says:

Is it me or did he look scared out of his mind?

  87. avatar eric says:

jackman is get us the 1# pick by himself.

    timmy!!!

  88. avatar themass says:

Has anybody else noticed that Danis played well with no pressure (with no backup to take the pipes from him). Since Macdonald has come back he has been very inconsistant. I had high hopes for this guy after a tremendous stretch when Mac went down. Oh and the Wrecker should pick on enforcers his own size… its getting kind of embarrasing between him and Jackman getting beaten

  89. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Wonder what the Candain announcers had to say when Fritz beat the crap out of Laraque? Wasn’t much of a fight tonight, Laraque just out waited Wrecker. Take another big run at him Joel. Larague doens’t like to throw just wrestle. With the score at 4-0 I’d be fine with the Isles just beating on Montreal the rest of the evening. Arrogant jerks (in case the NHL wants to know why the game isn’t more popular in the USA is because we have to listen to pompous Candian broadcasters sometimes).

  90. avatar NYICHAMP39 says:

    im getting updates online.
Wrecker fought Laraque??? jesus kid is probably in a coffin by now. Anyone got an update on who won that fight?

  91. avatar David Lee says:

Strummer- Larague oblidged and our boy was tentative and looked horrible. And, Fritz is a much better fighter but didnt whip Big George. He hung with him.

  92. avatar Moose says:

#92, wasn’t much of a fight. They danced, Wrecker threw one, wiffed, Laraque backed him up with a cross and threw the takedown.

  93. avatar d-man says:

no way keep joey unless you are planning another season like this. i have a proposal… how about the isles give up 4 goals early in every game then they can go full tilt without any danger of getting points.

cb… what is your view on TB sitting lecavalier and the lanche sitting smythe? and for that matter okposo and streit. i know they are all based in truths but it’s kind of obvious. i don’t think players tank but management definitely does. you agree?

  94. avatar Cruicky says:

Yann is coming back down to earth.

  95. avatar Steve Junker says:

My biggest fear is Burke goading Snow into trading the top pick, provided the NYI win the lottery of course.

  96. avatar NYICHAMP39 says:

thanks guys. Yeah we need a real fighter on this team. Although he is only a middle-weight, i would die for a guy like Asham back. At least he knows how to fight.

  97. avatar Chickendirt says:

    TAAAAAMMMMMMBBBBEEEEELLLLLLIIIINNNNIIIIIII!!!!!!!

  98. avatar TuxTax says:

    YAY Weeny Goal!

  99. avatar Swan says:

Wasn’t much of a fight. Wrecker did not want to engage. By the time he got in, he turned himself around and Laraque put him down with a couple of punches to the back of his head. Probably Laraque’s easiest ‘fight’ all season.

  100. avatar Justin says:

If the Islanders did trade the top pick in the draft, I would hope all my fellow fans would boycott the team becaue that would be unacceptable.

  101. avatar Cruicky says:

Someone must change the nickname of the ” Wrecker” . This nickname id going to get this guy killed. He is hardly a fighter. I say lets come up with a new one.

  102. avatar Chris TMC says:

Tambs with a laser of a goal! Keep improving, Tambs.

D-man (95): All the Isles who are out are all hurt, so its not like its based on truth, it IS the truth. Heck, we saw it happen right there during the game with Kyle!

  103. avatar NYICHAMP39 says:

If they trade the top draft pick this year I will start rooting the sound tigers and come back to the Islanders when they start doing things right…

  104. avatar NYICHAMP39 says:

    (103) instead of wreckER the name should be changed to wreckED bc thats what happens to this guy every time he drops the gloves. terrible.

  105. avatar Alex O says:

Hey CB, One Isles prospect who is having a nice freshman college season is Jason Gregoire, yet we never hear anything about him. He was a top USHL player and has done well for a freshman. Is he just not a good prospect? Does he have huge faults to overcome? Or are the other prospects that much better than him?

  106. avatar Strummer's Army says:

David Lee, Laraque even admitted after that Fritz beat him. Fritz didn’t hang with him he beat his a@@ and every commentator on ESPN and writer said so but most importantly Laraque said so. They’ll go again tonight. Laraque just out waited him. No one can say Joel looked tentative Laraque wasn’t jumpin in there eventually Joel did. That is experience. Let Joel hold that wrestler up and throw and Joel will win.

    Fantastic goal by Tambs.

  107. avatar Islanders1984 says:

If Isles Trade the first pick, Kansas City can have them

  108. avatar eric says:

    yeah we need a fighter.
    laraque just laughed at wrecker.

  109. avatar Strummer's Army says:

    Chris Botta,
Hope the blog is here forever! It is one of the best things to happen to Islanders hockey.

Which propects will sign contracts with the team this summer and arrive in Bridge this summer?

How many high level FAs will the Isles sign this summmer?

Do you see the Isles extra salary cap space will result in them being able to land some very good players because other teams are in cap trouble and the CBA being set to be reduced?

  110. avatar David Lee says:

Stummer- when a nobody on a nothing team asks the Champ for a fight(which in NO way helps him), you would EXPECT a better effort. Joel was scared and everyone watching knows it.The kid may have beaten Cote and has lost every other fight . In respect to actaul fisticuffs, hes pretty poor.

  111. avatar islesfan says:

Did anyone else notice the Usher scolding the kid that was rtying to wave a homemade sign behind Goring ?
Heaven forbid a little kid waves a sign.

  112. avatar jonw says:

95 and 104 Vinny is having wrist surgery and Smyth has a fractured hand…

  113. I just rewound it and watched the “fight” again. Joel was not scared — Georges was the one who was very cleverly gliding backwards the whole time, while also playing up the “come and fight me, I’m smiling angle.”

The “Champ” took advantage of the rookie — but through a clever mind game rather than actually stepping up to fight. He knew Rechlicz would be careful, and he played it up.

  114. avatar eye on the island says:

good playoff hockey on regular msg

and as for this trade nonsense, one person makes a redic comment and everyone gets wrapped into the “benjy” vortext(inside joke for all you stern fans out there)

but seriously, dont even entertain it, real discussions please

  115. avatar Chris TMC says:

Jonw: Im not sure why you are telling me that specifically but yes you are correct.

And for anyone picking on him, I think that Wrecker deserves a break. He is still a kid! He is going to improve by leaps and bounds next year, just like he has this year.

  116. avatar David Lee says:

go to hockey-fights.com and check out the “professional opinions ” of fight lovers. I loved Steve Webb and he was a horrid fighter: but, he could hit with the best of them. We need an Avery-Webb type AND a real legit heavy.

  117. avatar Matt says:

I highly doubt that Garth would trade our first pick.

  118. avatar dose says:

rech just needs to get some lessons.
    like keith magnuson.

    that’s the easy part.

    he’s got the rest.

  119. avatar admin says:

    (11) I’d think the major thing that happens after Oct. 1 if they don’t have a deal with the TOH is the Islanders more seriously look at offers from other municipalities. As I’ve written, after Murray’s move this week, I wouldn’t wait til then…CB

  120. avatar admin says:

    (9) There’s room for all of those guys to be on next year’s team…CB

  121. avatar admin says:

    (12) Gordon grade: B-. Much improved on a lot of levels in the final third…CB

  122. avatar admin says:

    (29) How is Queens a dream invented by NYI fans? Queens politicians are the ones openly talking about it in the New York Daily News…CB

  123. avatar Strummer's Army says:

I have eyes and don’t need to go to any website to describe fighting to me. I have fought nationally in marital arts since I was 8. That is just plain wrong to say Joel was scared. Laraque was simply controlling spacing and trying to get a younger more eager guy to come in. Joel did a great job of waiting him out. He eventually went in, Laraque used his momenteum against him by pulling him forward (thus helping him be off balance) and then took him down. No one was scared. Joel will be fine. You may remember Cairns and Godard were not very good fighters when they first came up but they both got to be some of the best in the game. Young fighters need experience like everyone else. Joel has won or drawn in every fight until tonight.

CB, how many other teams fans do you get on here becuase many on of the post on here don’t seem like they can be from Islander fans.

  124. avatar Nova Scotia Isles Fan says:

Can someone please shoot the idiot who created those stupid Bud Light commercials?

    TYIA.

  125. avatar eric says:

if snow trades the 1# pick, the isles are moving.
it will show that they dont care what we thing.

CB you think there is any chance that Bailey sees time in the AHL next year to develop his offensive game a bit?

  130. avatar Swan says:

#117, #120: I completely agree. Rechlicz will only get better, including his fighting skills. 5 years from now, he still won’t be in his fighting prime yet, age-wise!

Wrecker has shown he has more game than just throwing fists. He’s a keeper IMO (Jackman, too).

He can still get the LHP but he can solidify the Islanders now because this is a HUGE endeavor…Its hard to even fathom the impact this project will have on many areas…

  160. Is this blog going to live to see next season?

  161. avatar walter says:

The one thing that makes me so mad about what the town is doing is that they are not looking at the big picture. They have a very narrow view that this is only about the coliseum and not about all the people that it can help put to work and all the tax revenue that can brought in. i think that is what they will have to answer for and believe me they will

  162. avatar Islanders1984 says:

Ko21 Wang won’t keep the islanders if LH is not approved. And his threat of selling the hockey team is his biggest chip so he doesn’t want to give that up by accepting stimulus money for the coliseum

  163. avatar Adam says:

Hey CB. People have talked about the islanders needing an enforcer, and I do agree. However, we have seen Fritz can not skate, and Reclicz is decent but he has not shown much. Most of his fights are set right from a faceoff (which might be illegal next season) and none of his fights have developed from any play (such as Jackman or Weight). Where do you see an Islanders Enforcer go from here and any names of players that can fit the role? Thanks

  164. avatar AM says:

I don’t think people understand: WANG DOESN’T MAKE ANY MONEY ON THE ISLES, therefore it’s even more of a waste to renovate the coliseum with tax dollars. No other owner, and there is not another one, would turn in any profit with the way the current model with SMG is in place.

    NYI Point Blank
The last place team with a Stanley Cup caliber blog.

As a fan since the 70′s there were some days where I thought for sure we would lose the Isles.
Now to be so close to a new arena(and actually having committed people in Wang & Rechler) it kills me that the TOH is almost forcing the Isles out.

If the Isles leave where is the TOH going to recoup that loss of tax revenue?

Where do the TOH residents who work part and full time do for a job?

Absolute shame that one of the richest counties has one of the oldest sports venues in all 4 major sports.

Being the Islanders owner is like being a resident in a condo development.

You see all your neighbors units being blown out, jacuzzi’s added, plasma tv’s added, new kitchens, new baths, etc.

But your unit they leave as is.

The same way it was when the condos were built.

But all your neighbors get virtually brand new palaces.

  169. avatar islesfan says:

    KO21 #160.
It sounds like you’re starting to drink Kate Murray’s Kool-Aid.

Without his so called “bargaining chip”, Wang would get nothing.
Yes, without him, the Isles would be long gone. He was promised he could eventually develop the property around the Arena.
Why should he abandon all the time and $$$ he spent up till now.
Besides, there is NO chance the Fed will give stimulus money for a sports venue.
Not while there are private developers wanting to do it themselves.

  170. avatar Chris TMC says:

KO21 (160): Accept WHAT proposition??? They CANT “get stimulus funds” to build an arena- that is not what stimulus funds are FOR. It is being suggested by someone who knows fully well that obtaining stimulus funds to build an arena is IMPOSSIBLE. Im sorry but if you actually believe this you are being conned, KO21.

Just from an entertainment perspective, the Lighthouse Project makes so much sense. Where do teens and young adults go on Long Island to see concerts and alternative movies that are usually shown only in Manhattan? 30-35 years ago, when I was in my teens, we had the Calderone Concert Hall in Hempstead, the Uniondale Mini-Cinema and their midnight shows and My Father’s Place in Roslyn. Presumably this development would have some kind of entertainment center that’s more than a movie theater. I just don’t get the opposition. Hopefully there are enough enlightened voters in the Town, on both sides of the political aisle, to vote in more progressive thinking officials.

We old timers have seen and lived through YEARS of agony with ownership issues, bad GMs, etc.
We finally have a plan in place, and now the TOH is seeming to want it to fail.
It’s devastating to ALL of us, the prospect of the Isles leaving.

There is no way stimulus money will go to renovate the NVMC.. Stimulus money is going towards not only just anything that will put people to work but that will create more jobs than currently exist, affordable housing, infastructure improvements, more permanent jobs, and increase tax revenue. Chris once again the blog is fantastic. Question, what happened to the Islanders Illustrated TV show, was it cancelled ?

  212. avatar Moose says:

ALL ISLANDER FANS REVOLT, It’s a divide and conquer tactic by Kate Murray and it’s plainly obvious. She has NO INTEREST IN THE TEAM AT ALL. She wants this issue to go away as quickly as possible. Furthermore, there’s NO CHANCE to get Stimulus money for this.

  218. avatar jmg27 says:

Cb or any other season ticket holders…. can I have your thoughts about the recent loyalty rewards” season ticket renewel packages that was just sent out. They offer a discounted ticket freeze for up to 3 years w/ perks w/ parking and playoff tickets depending on if you do a 1,2,or 3 year commitment which is great. BUT at the same time they only give April 30th renewel deadline or your current seats are not guaranteed anymore. Is it me or is that a tough sell to holding onto season ticket holders to make that type of commitment in only one months time w/ the current state of the economy? To me it comes across the wrong way. I could be taking it wrong but just wanted your thoughts on ths issue.

  219. avatar Chris TMC says:

Moose (215) is correct. This is a textbook divide and conquer tactic… along with being intentionally deceptive and a blatant stall tactic. There is indeed no chance that stimulus money will build a flippin arena, it is a ridiculous notion and what gets me so mad is that she knows that! Obama is not some genie in a bottle handing out hundreds of milions of dollars at will, and Murray is fully aware of that. She is just counting on the voters being clueless and believing that the impossible could actually hapeem. And, if Isles fans DO believe her story, then when it doesnt happen she can blame on the democratic feds and look like “the good guy.” She takes us all for ignorant, uninformed fools. We are a lot smarter than she believes us to be, we must not and will not fall for these ridiculous ploys, and we must make sure that others do not fall for them, either.

  220. avatar isles316 says:

#221. I agree with you. To me it’s poor business. This is not the time you put financial deadlines on your best customers. I really don’t think they will give up your seats, I think they just need some cash flow.

Either way it’s a poor move and an easy way to lose a ticket holder if they have been on the fence about renewing.

  221. jmg27 (221) – I’m looking at my renewal offer right now. I’m already locked in and almost done paying for next year, but I got the offer to extend for 2010-11 and 2011-12. The only people that might lose their seat locations are those that don’t renew for 2009-10 by 4/30/09. I’ll admit this is my first year with season tickets, but I think they normally want people to extend not long after the team’s season ends and we all know our season is ending on 4/12/09. As far as the economy goes and how it affects season ticket holders, that is a personal decision that we all must make based upon our personal situations. The organization is a business that needs to continue to build their season ticket holder base so I don’t feel that they are doing anything wrong. Actually I feel it is a very good offer with the price freeze. I’m still not sure if I will renew for more years before 4/30/09. Again it is a personal decision.

Just wanted to chime in … missed most of the game … I have teammates over after we won the championship tonight … a third of them are Rag fans … and they are pissed the Habs beat the Isles … so it was a win-win for us …. Magic # is now FIVE … still seems so far away … The good thing is the Isles play some hot teams (except Tampa obviously)

  223. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

Seriously the Isles seem to be dropping like flies … Hilbert now eh? Well… time to celebrate, shoot some pool and get drunk .. I’ll check in with ya’s tomorrow morning.

CB- Before I go … I was going to bring up officiating before the game … it seems to me that officiating has been extra harsh on the Isles lately? Am I just paranoid? What is your take?

  224. avatar hmmmm..... says:

i dont know if theres NO chance of getting stimulus money…i mean we have 1.8 million going to pig odor research haha

  225. avatar Ryan says:

Decent game. The Islanders were sloppy in their own end and left Danis way too vulnerable a number of times, but he could have had those long shots, too. Komisarek with #2 of the season in front his hometown crowd… kind of. The Montreal fans didn’t have the numbers they had earlier in the season, but they were younger (I think it was a bunch of school trips) and loud as hell. I had to get aggressive with a group of young guys when they wouldn’t sit down in the first five minutes–I missed a couple of good plays while they were dancing around in front of me. Montreal fans are fricking annoying.

Bentivoglio took a bad penalty but he backchecked well and showed some hustle. He tried to do a bit too much with the puck and left himself open for some takeaways in the offensive zone. Trevor Smith had a solid game, though he wasn’t able to convert on his breakaway. Good speed and a real nose for the net, same as earlier in the year.

  226. avatar jmg27 says:

Brian… agreed on most points. Just wanted to see others thoughts. I’m assuming you took the 2 year deal last year so your tickets are paid for already. I opted to pass on the 2 year plan last year and go year to year which is where I am now, on the fence for next year. You are prob right about it being a personal decision but just thought with the product being what it is, the economy being what it is,that it seemed a little quick to release the seats less then a month from the season being over. For all i konw that might be normal. I dont konw and was why i was inquiring. But it is a business and like you said on the business side it makes sense. Appreciate the feedback.

  227. avatar hmmmm..... says:

jk…sort of, im sure its important to those people who actually have to deal with pig odor every day…but still…do we really need $332,000 to design and build a single sidewalk? isnt that a little bit excessive? if stimulus money should go anywhere, it should go to a place that will create thousands of temporary jobs and then thousands of permanent jobs as well as revenue and attracting people to live in an area…i wonder what kind of development could POSSIBLY do that…and Wang is not the bad one here, he’s sacrificed alot to keep the isles here, i dont blame him for wanting to make some money…

  228. avatar Merrick says:

JMG (221), What irked me most about the season ticket extension is that buried in very small fine print on a separate page was a notice that the “perks” such as parking and playoff tickets (dream) only applied to all Lower Bowl and Center Mezzanine seats in Rows A through E. So if you’re a season ticket holder for 20 years in other seats–you get nothing for extending except a price freeze–notwithstanding that you probably could have bought virtually the same seats all year long from the Isles and other sources at close to the same or even lower price.

But enough with that. Tonight was the first game I attended all year where I had a hard time rooting for them to win. I actually enjoyed the Habs going up 4 – 0 because it made it easier to root for the Isles to try and come back. As a fan, I feel there is nothing left to prove this season and it’s time to guarantee one of the top two.

Btw, in the Isles lineup tonight, only six guys dressed who were full time players in the NHL last season. In addition, the most notable absent player was Kyle Okposo, and Josh Bailey also seemed invisible without him.

  229. jmg27 (229) – You are correct, I did take the two year deal last spring and I know that April 30th was the deadline for that deal. I would imagine that you will be able to get your seats back even if you wait until after 4/30, but you will lose the 07-08 prices if they decide to raise prices (which would be an atrocious move in my opinion considering the “product”, as you mentioned).

  230. avatar admin says:

    (206) I’d say there were about 1,500 Habs fans in the house tonight. Most of them young, all of them loud…CB

  231. avatar Jim Clark says:

Horrible game to go to tonight. I think this is up there with the Buffalo and Dallas-with-Avery losses earlier in the season.

#221 I didn’t mind getting the “renew by April 30th letter” but I ain’t doing it. My work hours have changed so next year I can only make about 20 games. But it seemed reasonable to me..getting a 17% discount. I don’t feel like renewing and asking my hardline supervisor if I can miss three hours of work 20 times a year.

  232. avatar jmg27 says:

Merrick….. great call on that. I would have never ever noticed that. Glad I had this “townhall” type forum to ask and get that info. I just read your comment and checked it over and Im telling you if you never pointed that out I would never have seen that as it is written in such small print on the bottom as “some restrictions apply”. I would unfortunatly fall out of that catergory as a center mezz row G ticket holder so its something I will weight into making my decision. Thanks again! Good stuff.

  233. Merrick (231) – Wow! I did not see that fine print at the bottom of the renewal sheet. Nice catch!!! I will have to email my ticket rep about that, as that will make it very easy for me to skip on the idea of renewing beyond next season at this point. Im in End Mezzanine, Row F.

  234. avatar admin says:

    (131) Dally: Interesting question about Bailey, but no, I don’t think he’ll spend time in the minors next season. The Islanders kinda jumped in head-first with Josh this season. With the same GM and coach in place, it’s tough for me to picture them having the kid take a step back. Very good question…CB

  235. avatar admin says:

    (135) KO21: If Charles Wang didn’t own the team anymore but Scott Gordon and several of these players were playing for the Islanders in Kansas City, Hamilton or wherever, I don’t think he’d miss a game on TV…CB

  236. avatar admin says:

    (140) Last time I was in contact with the Arbours was around the holidays, and Al was doing well. He was at the team’s game in Tampa a while back…CB

  237. avatar b-ri says:

I think wang would be a fool to take this team to KC. Sports in that city are horrible enough as it is with the cellar dwelling royals and cheifs. I don’t think that it would be good for either side to move the last place islanders to a last place city. Lets just vote Kate murray out of office in november and keep the Islanders where they belong….Long Island

  238. avatar Fred says:

Chris, assuming the Isles get the #1 overall, is there any amount of draft picks that might allow them to get the # 2 as well? Say The #1 from San Jose, the Isles # 1 NEXT year and a couple of second rounders? Am I nuts or would a 4 for 1 be enough?

  239. avatar Fred says:

Sorry, my though was doing that to grab BOTH Tavares and Hedman. Draft them and bring them up to the podium together, now THAT would create a positive seismic shift for the Isles.

  240. avatar Jim Clark says:

This may mean nothing but the Canadiens were consistently later than the Islanders getting out of the locker room. Usually both teams come out around the same time. I had visions of Spinal Tap getting lost in the hallways of the club in Cleveland.

The Canadiens fans tended to sit in the $100 seats instead of the $25 seats like me. Also seemed to be a lot of them talking in English instead of parlez francais.

Ducks and Canucks have a barn-burner going on 5-5 late in the second.

  241. avatar admin says:

    (145) The NYI have retired the numbers of all Hockey Hall of Famers, plus Bobby Nystrom as the one asterisk – Mr. Islander, 30-plus years in the org, 1980 goal, community service and on and on. I love Eddie, but I believe he deserves automatic entry in the NYI Hall of Fame – not number retirement. Guess that’s a question more for the Islanders to answer. That’s just my opinion…CB

  242. avatar Julie says:

jmg27 (221) I am a season ticket holder too and I also was not happy. Renew for another 2-3 years or lose your seats sounds like an ultimatum/threat. If they said renew for 2-3 years and receive an additional discount, that sounds like an incentive. Also, I wonder if any other teams ask their fans to pay for 3 years in advance. Theoretically, you should then be able to go 2-3 years without making payments (after you are paid up). But we know this will never happen. I am starting to see this as a possible financial burden. The deadline of 4/30 is to soon to get an idea about the future location of the team. Yes I know that the lease is till 2015, but I don’t want to spend thousands on a lame duck team. I do feel put off but I have not yet decided what I am going to do. I know this is apples and oranges, but compared to the Mets prices this is a bargain. But I do not like the way this is being handled.

  243. avatar mm30 says:

Stimulus money should go to Botta to keep this blog going…

  244. avatar Merrick says:

Brian and JMG (234, 235)–I’m glad I could help, but someone else had to point this out to me. And to be frank, putting aside any management foibles, for a team that generally does a good job at trying to keep their fans happy through customer service (Kerry Cornils does a great job), this deception on season ticket holders is one of the most egregious things the Islanders have done to season ticket holders all season.

I know the lawyers will say that everything was disclosed–but the free perks for were listed right on the invoice–even for those who didn’t qualify. And that you two didn’t notice the exclusion only tells me that there are many more just like us. I expect to have to read the fine print in Sunday newspaper ad, but quite frankly, in my view to go this route with season ticket holders is inexcusable.

  245. avatar WildcatChris says:

I called and ripped the messenger a new one.

All she said was the facts we all already know, and she said them in a tone as though they were going to bring hell to Long Island.

    TWO FORTY STORY TOWERS!
FIVE. HUNDRED. THOUSAND. Square feet of office space.
    All funded by Chinese investors.

I went on to nail them on everything, telling her that I have (which I do) nearly 200 Long Islanders here at Villanova University that plan on voting against her come November. I said that the way she is handling this is an absolute joke because she must know that she will never get federal funding for this AND that Charles Wang will not renovate a building he does not own if he doesn’t have the Lighthouse generating him a profit in the long-run.

“Well sir, he is a very clever businessman and we have to watch his motives, he just wants to make money.”

I know this! What clever business man doesn’t make money? He’s doing Nassau County and the TOH a huge service in bringing us into the future, providing affordable housing, keeping the youth here, keeping the Islanders here, and bringing a new industry to Long Island.

    “Sir, I know. I know.”

Do you know? Long Island lost some of its most brilliant minds and greatest residents when Grumman left. Since Grumman left, we have had nothing. This project would ensure a new medical/sports medicine industry to Long Island; we haven’t had an injury in decades.

“I agree. I just hope I’m around to see it all.” <-she was older in her years; not a good sign for all of us though.

I had effectively convinced Murray’s Hotline helper of doom that she and Murray were wrong.

Keep storming the phones boy. She told me the phones were off the hooks.

  246. JMG, Merrick, Jim, Julie – I just sent the following to my ticket rep. I’ll be happy to update CB and all of you when I receive a response.

(Dear Ticket Rep) – I have been pondering the renewal offer that I received in the mail a few weeks back. However tonight, I discovered the ‘some restrictions apply fine print’ at the bottom of the renewal benefits sheet. I must say that I am extremely disappointed to discover these provisions (regarding the free playoff tickets and free breakaway parking) as I sit in the End Mezzanine, Section 313, Row F. I am already almost done paying for the 2009-2010 season as I signed on for the two year offer last spring. Given the current uncertainty of the Islanders playing at NVMC beyond 2009-2010, I feel as if I lost all incentive to renew beyond next season. Please advise if there are exceptions to these restrictions or alternative incentives to renew beyond next season for someone who sits in End Mezzanine seats.

  247. Merrick (245) – I agree with you about all points on your post. It is absolutely egregious that they would list those perks on my invoice when I don’t qualify. I had noticed this and will hold this one in my back pocket if I don’t like the response I receive from my ticket rep. Great point about Kerry too. He always gets back to me when I express concerns to him by email. He has also been very courteous when I’ve approached him on the concourse. I liked his write up in today’s Game Notes email taboot.

  248. avatar Fearthewrecker says:

Why don’t municipalities learn? Once the Islanders leave wait till we hear all these rumors about them trying to get another franchise. It always happens see KC, Colorado, Atlanta.

  249. avatar Julie says:

Brian (247) – I am also in the endzone (309). On the islandermania message board, a customer service rep posted that if you had previously taken the 2 year renewal and now renew for an additional 1 or 2 years, then you will receive all benefits (free parking, free playoffs) no matter where your seats are located.

  250. avatar Jim Clark says:

On the Center Ice feed I notice other teams advertising packages for season tickets. I assume they correspond closely to what the Islanders offer..Gary Bettman probably co ordinates that. If it wasn’t for my work hours changing, I’d be mailing in a three year plan since I assume as a USPS employee my job security is pretty good (although our mail volume is down. Please think of me and mail your bills, no automatic deduction from your checking account). I just figured with huge federal budget deficits and years of ever rising ticket prices, locking in was a good offer. But I did notice the catch about “free playoff tickets”. Not nice, something Kate Murray would try.

  251. Jules (251) – Thanks for the info. Hopefully it is true. I’ll still wait to hear from my personal rep

  252. avatar Fearthewrecker says:

CB Any rumors about a draft party at all?

  253. avatar admin says:

    (165) On the enforcer issue, I don’t think Rechlicz is a pure enforcer – more of an agitator-hitter-light heavyweight. The team likes him and will continue to develop him. I only think there will be a 10-minute heavyweight if they decide the right one is out there on the ufa market…CB

  254. avatar admin says:

    (253) I’ve heard that the Islanders are most definitely planning another Draft party for June, probably at the Coliseum…CB

  255. avatar admin says:

  260. Fearthewrecker (253), CB (255) – The renewal letter that season ticket holders received states “join us at the Draft Party at the Coliseum on June 26th”

  261. avatar admin says:

    (207) Whatever I know, I put on the blog. I haven’t heard anything lately about Gilroy and the NYI – only that he’s focused on the Frozen Four. My money is on the Leafs, although I wouldn’t recommend signing in Toronto if I was advising Matt…CB

I would hope they could clear up any confusion…CB

CB, what’s got a greater chance of happening? Queens / BK or KC?

  272. avatar mrlbem says:

The Calderone was a viable alternative to the Paladium in lower Manhattan. The same groups used to play both venues. Jerry Garcia often played there. Now, it’s just another “Used To Be” in the Town and Village of Hempstead. That better not be the fate of the Coliseum.

  273. avatar Ryan says:

CB (272): Might be a denial of service attack.

  276. avatar BrianAlbany says:

On the Vancouver Canucks boradcast, just before the shootout, the have a conversation suggesting the Islanders were trying to tank the season based on Witt being in the shootout in the recent game…the suggest Gordon made a “dodgy” coaching decision and how the islanders still need to be honest to the rest of the league..??

  277. avatar mm30 says:

CB-Do you think the Isles will buy out any vets? (Sim most likely,Sutton?)

  278. avatar alex says:

yea Brianalbany(278) i heard that too! NOT TRUE!!!

  279. avatar Ryan says:

MM30 (279): I don’t see Sutton going anywhere. He was an effective defenseman for us during the dark days of the season, and with the new defensive scheme could probably shine. There were stories coming into this season about how much more effective his physical training has been (losing 20 pounds, working on his skating) and I think we’re going to be surprised by his level of play next year.

  280. avatar Jim Clark says:

Doesn’t every coach use a player with a lifetime 2.7% scoring percentage on the shootout? Don’t the Canucks have a goalie for a captain whom the Islanders thought was “high-maintenance” and traded?

  281. avatar Ryan says:

BrianAlbany (278): For what it’s worth, I remember a short video clip in late January with an interview of Gordon where he talked about a practice they’d just had. They practiced the shootout, doing a tournament where you had to score to stay alive, and Brendan Witt managed to win. He joked at the time about how they had a secret weapon for their shootouts.

  282. avatar mm30 says:

281- I hear ya…I don’t want him gone but we have depth with regards to 4/5/6 defense types.

If the Isles want to use sparky to take shootouts I dont care. The media (especially canadian) treats us like crap anyway. We have to look out for our best interests.

  283. avatar admin says:

    (279) Sim would be a possibility, and that’s it…CB

  284. avatar mm30 says:

Your a maniac Chris! Get some sleep!

  285. avatar islesfan says:

    Brian, Julie, Merrick,and everyone else:

I spoke to my Rep the other day when I too noticed the fine print.
He said that it only applied to “new” people.
That since I had agreed to the two year extension last year, that I would get all the benefits even though my seats are in End Mezzanine A-E and NOT Center Mezz.

He also asked me what it said on the actual invoice.
I read to him the “Benefits”(price freeze, parking, free playoffs) but told him there was an * next to it and that it said “restrictions apply..see renewal benefits sheet”. Then I told him about the fine print at the bottom.

All in all, I feel we will get all the benefits, but would feel better about it if it were written without such ambiguity.

Brian, I look forward to hearing how it went with your rep.

    Nelson in 319.

PS. My original rep from last Sept. is gone as is my “new” rep who is now with the Jets.
The Isles seem to have a revolving door over at Old Country Rd.

  286. avatar Ryan says:

Islesfan (287): I’m sure that anyone who’s willing to bankroll the Islanders’ ’09-’10 and ’10-’11 seasons can get at least the free parking if they insist on it being a condition of their renewal.

Also, I’ve had Teresa as my ticket rep for the full year, and she’s been great. She’s helped me out with a couple of special requests and has gone above and beyond in a ton of different ways. I’d highly recommend anyone looking for stability and accessibility to purchase their tickets through her.

  287. avatar Coach B says:

I have attended 2 draft parties. My prblem with them was they emptied the Coliseum before the first round was over (the Islanders didn’t have any more picks). Now that the Islanders have San Jose’s pick I hope they let the fans stay for the whole first round.

  288. avatar isles316 says:

Komisarek was pretty brutal last night in his own end. He had about 3 really awful turnovers and weak clears. I’ve heard he has played sub par this season.

I’d love to have him but did anyone else notice that?

  289. avatar Jim Clark says:

    290. Yes I did. I think he started out the season well but never recovered from his injury in the fight earlier this year.I wonder if his roughing penalty got his team riled up. The Canadiens started the game real flat. Montreal may avoid total embarrassment by squeaking into the playing (satisfying even a Leafs fan like Dob Cherry who wants one Canadian team in the East)

  290. avatar mrlbem says:

While we’re on the subject of the ticket renewal, the free playoff series tix essentially take the place of the loyalty discount, which apparently has gone by the wayside. So it’s not like they’ve sweetened the pot, they took away something as well.

  291. avatar Macch says:

Bozak signed with the Leafs according to Sportsnet.ca

  292. avatar admin says:

    (293) Thanks, Macch. As predicted. With Hanson and Bozak signing with TO, maybe Gilroy will go somewhere else now…CB

  293. avatar Will77 says:

Hey CB, a couple questions for you:

    1) IF the Isles get Tavares, do you see him playing center his first year, or starting off on the wing? Especially if they want Weight back, they’d already have Weight/Nielsen/Bailey, and I doubt they’d want any of them playing 4th line.

    2) Heres on way to look at the whole Parise issue no one can get over; If the Isles did get him, no way we get Tavares/Hedman and probably not KO either. Would you rather have had Parise these years and beyond, or Tavares and KO going forward?

Thanks, and I love the blog and hope it sticks around forever!

  294. avatar isles316 says:

CB, Do you know if there is truth that Gilroy WANTS to play here? I have heard that from people but I took it as wishful thinking.

  295. avatar Hockey1919 says:

With Hanson and Bozak signing with the Leafs, you would have to question their character. They obviously aren’t interested in joining a winner and are looking for the highest bidder (same could be said if the signed with the Islanders). Gilroy would at least have local ties if he decided to come to the Island.

However, what are the Islanders chances of going after a guy like David Moss a 6′ 3″ RW with the Flames who is UFA and looking to move up the depth chart. Would certainly add some size and at 27 isn’t over the hill?

  296. avatar Steve-O says:

Hi Chris, I see that many scouting lists have Kane and Cowen and some S-P ranked ahead of Duchesne. What are your thoughts on the PB #3 ranking?

  297. avatar admin says:

    (295) Let’s talk about where Tavares plays after season is over and if NYI get him in lottery. So much still has to happen. The Parise draft was 6 years ago. Hard to project what that would have meant to Tavares/Hedman…CB

  298. avatar admin says:

    (296) I have never heard that Matt’s biggest desire is to play for the Islanders…CB

  299. avatar admin says:

    (298) I’ve had Duchene at 3 since November and do not see that changing. The Hockey News recently had him 6, then one of their columnists wrote recently that Duchene is right up there with Tav and Hed in the eyes of some teams. I’ll stand by Duchene as the third best player in this draft. That doesn’t mean he’ll go 3, just that this blog has him ahead of Kane, P-S, Cowen and the rest…CB

  300. CB, In a recent interview with Scott Gordon, he related the most of the Groin strains/pulls around the league are b/c of the new type skates, saying they don’t have enough give space. If that’s the case I don’t understand why the players aren’t going back to the old type skates. Any insite on this issue????

  301. avatar Marc from Troy says:

    (143) Only those Isles fans with nothing better to worry about. You’re not speaking for all of us.

  302. avatar Macch says:

Please to anyone saying the Isles shouldnt draft JT because they have Bailey, Frans and Weight is out of their minds.

  303. avatar derek says:

    CB,
I’ve mentioned it several times, but it’s worth noting again, as others already have. Your blog is the best thing that could’ve happened this season. Your info is obviously second to none. I look forward to your “state of the blog” post. If there is anything we can do to keep this puppy alive, you know we’re here, full force. Sign me up for a premium package, as well. I got some ideas for you, I’ll drop you an email later today.

  306. avatar derek says:

Manufacturers have been developing the skates with new composite materials. Bauer just introduced another version of their Vapor (x:60 no Islander is wearing it) that are supposed to be stiff as hell. Witt & Tamby use a skate that’s nearly full composite material. Most of the team is wearing the old Vapor XXXX or One95. The old skates that you mention are pretty much, long gone. Campy was the last to wear them. The only Manufacturer that makes something similar is Graf and I think only Collitan wears those. From what I’ve noticed though, the major groin strains and such are by players wearing the NBH skates, either Vapor XXXX or One95. KO and Streit both wear the XXXX.

  307. avatar UIF says:

Question for CB – Niemi seems to have the size and the tools. But I hear he’s struggling, and he’s not in your “top 10″ list from a few threads ago. Any insight on what the deal is with him? With all our undersized d-men in the system, it’d be nice to have a 6’2 guy there with a booming shot. Can he simply not “think the game” well enough, like MA Bergeron?

  308. avatar Big Dog says:

gotta let ya know this blog has kept me into the isles when i was at many low points with this team. I will always cheer this team on win or lose but your blog has given big hope in many ways.

kate murray you are a tool, a total fool. Do you expect people to take you serious now?

now can colorado pull off an isles at detroit at some point this season.. win you fools # 1 belongs to us!!!

    side note
after leaving laguardia community college last night i saw a bus ,load of canadien fans pulled over lost..mind you this is sunnyside and it was 705 when i saw them.. god know they were crazy late to the game.

  309. avatar derek says:

One last thing about the skates. The “flimsier” skates have very little protection. That’s why you see a guy like Thompson (Mission) wearing the added protection on the skates. Marty (Reebok) had to switch because of that reason. Too many shots to the forefoot and ankles caused injuries that these newer skates have helped diminish, at least a little.

  310. Thanx for the explaination Derek

  311. avatar UIF says:

Jeez derek – Impressive knowledge on the skates. I was still motoring around on antiquated Bauer 100 Supremes in the beer leagues up until 2 years ago…guess I’m a bit behind the times :)

  312. avatar Froggy says:

Wholeheartedly agree with the sentiments concerning your blog. It is the number one source for Isles info and is the first website I check every morning. If the Isles do stay on Long Island you will be one of the major reasons why. I would pay for a premium subsription as well. Please do whatever you can to keep this blog going.

  313. avatar Spartiarti - RVC says:

was anyone as upset with Rechlicz cowardly act last night. I gave the guy so much respect for throwing down with cote last week, whom i think is tougher than larque now.

I would send him right back to bridgeport.

Also Not having Okpsoso and streit was so noticeable last night.

    We had no offense.

  314. avatar Moose says:

CB, I was on the LIRR today and saw a flier from Kate Murray asking the public to vote “NO” for some apartment complex in RVC. There was some other councilman shaking hands on the platform but of course Ms. Murray was absent and is against any progress. I spent most of the train ride talking about the LH to a friend of mine who had no idea what the plan really was. Is there any word on whether or not Wang will start advertising in Non-Islander situations?

  315. avatar Marc from Troy says:

(221)… What she said. Something needs to change with the way the message is being delivered to get people to open their eyes. Hopefully this morning’s Newsday editorial is the start.

(256)… Might be worth making the roadie for this year’s draft party, something I’ve never considered before.

(278)… Anyone stupid enough to question whether using Witt in that SO was “evidence” of the Isles tanking need only look at the previous night’s 60 minutes @ Detroit, and that night’s 65 minutes that were played before the skills competition. Screw the Canadian media.

Finally, CB, put me in the “will happily send you my hard-earned money any time necessary to keep this blog going” column. I can only echo those previous comments who have noted how PB has made this season not only tolerable, but in some ways even exciting. Thanks for what you do.

  316. avatar isles316 says:

CB, I would pay a subscription to this site as well.

  317. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

CB … The coach that ran my team’s bench last night has seen Tavares more than 2 dozen times over the past 4 years … When I brought up that “scouts” talk about his skating as an issue … coach responded … Well … he’s not going to beat Bouwmeester in a flat footed race to avert an icing … but Tavares more than makes up with his lack of speed because with his hockey sense he’s already in motion or taking action before most others react. He also said JT works on his weaknesses … as he did on his defense two seasons ago to become a better defensive player.

Count me in for a subscription if it keeps this blog going. It is my homepage and I don’t know what I would do without it. You do an absolutely fantastic job of covering the Islanders and the many issues that surround the team and the community that supports them. Please keep it going if you can!

In the “buzzed” debate I had with my teammates / coaching staff last night … we debated Tavares vs. Hedman … of course the defensemen on my team leaned Hedman … the forwards JT … one thing I was reminded of is that with highly skilled forwards it is possible to keep the puck in the offensive zone longer … thusly creating less minutes defending … however … it’s crucial to have a mobile set of defenders that can help support the pressure in the offensive zone … my conclusion … We need both kinds of players … CB … would Ness be that kind of player that would be the perfect apprentice to Mark Streit? How does the organization depth look in the offensive defenseman dept?

  320. CB, I’D galdly pay for a subscription to the best blog on the Internet.

CB … a premium membership to your page is a great idea … besides … you deserve to be compensated for your hard work … even if it is a labor of love.

Perhaps you can leave the comment restrictions in place for non-members … because it’s still nice to hear from other casual posters who aren’t regulars … and premium members can have like a 200 word comment limit. Maybe even give members a 6 comment limit on articles … and unlimited in-game threads.

Heck .. skys the limit CB … I can see a Point Blank Illustrated edition!! :-)

Just throwing it out there CB.

CB … maybe I missed this … but is there going to be a Point Blank Draft Wrap Party?

That would be pretty cool to do after the NVMC festivities. Well … depending on our moods after the draft.

I’m sure no one will be in the mood to celbrate if Snow trades down to draft Jared Cowen if they had a top 2 pick … Nobody wants to hear that Snow had Cowen at the top of his list … But still … even the biggest cynic knows that isn’t going to happen if Snow has a top 2.

OK … that’s it for my extended comment participation in this version of the Isles’ Point Blank G8 summit. Hoping the next summit is the JT91 summit on here.

    (309) Niemi is not a strong NHL prospect as of now. Needs to improve many areas of his game…CB

Thanks for all the offers to purchase subscriptions. That’s extremely generous. I think if I ever did something like that, it would be more of a “contribution” where for a nominal cost you would get something of value besides the blog in return. I don’t want to go to subscription or premium, because then some people get shut out. That’s the last thing I’d want to do. I’d prefer to make it that whomever is in a position to help out does, and leave it at that. I’m going to take some time to think about it and hopefully have a plan next week. Thanks again, everybody…CB

CB, what are the Vegas odds on signing Gilroy?

  326. avatar Marc from Troy says:

(324)… Even if it were “informal”, that is a great idea. Two parties instead of just one could certainly swing the vote toward making the trip. Hell, maybe just see if something could be worked out to head down to Doolin’s or over to Champions. Walking distance, good. Lack of decent walking distance options, another discussion for another time.

    (327) I’d say about 8-1, with Toronto in the lead.

    Thanks to everyone who participated…CB

CB, what’s going on with Dustin Kohn. I remember when he was one of the only blueline prospects we had. How is his progression coming, any chance at making the isles in the next couple years

  329. avatar Cahoward28 says:

So I recently got a call from my ticket rep at the Isles and to me, what he said was irresponsible and to be honest, makes me think that they think we are all uneducated fans. Here was the comment….”We have some exciting packages for next season and now that we have the #1 picked locked up and the Lighthouse is virtually a go, things are looking up”. Do they think we are stupid? First off, if we had ZERO points on the season, we’d only have a 48.2% chance of the #1 pick as we all know. And second, I’d say it’s pretty clear that the Lighthouse is FAR from virtually a lock. Anyway, just thought I’d share.

Brian from Mass (248) – I called my rep with the same concerns and was told that all of the fine print and conditions that concern us do not apply to people who were already signed on for next year. He said the letter was poorly worded and confusing. I already toold him that I wouldn’t renew right away and would have expected to have several months off from paying for tickets. I also informed him that if this offering is gone after April 30th, then I’ll never renew. Let’s see some progress with the team next season and I’d think about it after the All Star, I mean Olympic break.

  331. avatar Gary says:

310- I saw them come in right at the end of the first period, yelling Go Habs Go all the way up to their seats. Well, it is what most of the people here seem to want, right?

  332. avatar Gary says:

331 – If that’s what your rep really said, he’s misrepresenting. You should call and ask to speak with a manager and tell him what was said. I’m sure they don’t condone that kind of misrepresentation.

  333. avatar Richie66 says:

CB- have you tried to submit your website to Google Adsense or something on that nature, they will place sponsered links (this way you wouldnt have to solicite them yourself) on your website, you get $$ when people click on thier link from your website. Could be worth looking in to

  334. avatar Cahoward28 says:

334 – That is what I thought. I think it is bad enough to try to get a new subscriber with that rhetoric, but to try to get an existing subscriber who would likely know that he is full of BS, was very disappointing.

I Just wanted to apologize for allowing myself to fall into Murrays trap by signing that bogus petition…I ended up withdrawing my name…I figured you guys would like this…

Subject: “I am in support of you, Kate Murray”

    Dear Kate Murray,
“I am in support of you putting in your resignation”…
I am not in support of what you are proposing…The more I think about it and educate myself about the situation, I learned that Charles Wang is losing over 20,000,000 every year for 9 years now…He can’t make a profit with a rebuilt arena…He was promised by politicians who begged him to save the Isles and he did with the promise that the area will be rebuilt…Now 9 years later , $75,000,000 later, he can’t wait any longer and needs to know whether or not he will be able to make this thing work, if he cant get the LH approved then he wont be able to keep the team at the Coliseum even a rebuilt one simply because he has lost so much waiting for this to happen and now he has to recoup his massive losses…He took these losses saving a team for you and me…You are trying to take everything away from Isles fans and you’re a criminal for what you’re trying to do to Wang…

Take my name off of that misleading and bogus letter and shove it you know where…You don’t deserve my support, you’re a disgrace to Long Island and need to resign now…

    Respectfully,

PS. I better not find my name on that list
