We are not going to get Gilroy for the bargain basement price of $875k per year, where a younger free agent must sign. He will go for a multi-year (probably 3) at at least $1.5M per. Whoever signs him better be very very sure he is the real deal. I’ve seen him play many times this year, and I don’t think he is worth that kind of money to thre Isles when we have other proven prospects in the system.

Tim (51): Whats wrong about it??? You as an unproven,undrafted prospect can also ask for whatever money you want, and you can pick and choose what team you wants to play for without ever lacing up the skates in the big league, as well. there is nothing wrong with it… the issue is if there are teams who are willing to give that kind of money to an unproven talent. If youre worried about an undrafted hids swolen head, then does that mean the drafted kids heads are even bigger than Mr Mackeys?

I remember reading about your brother and other members of STICK ( Save the Islanders Coalition) back in 2000.
They never gave up,and through their perseverance, saved the Islanders.

I, along with many others, will honor him by not giving up on our current fight to save the Isles once more.

I thank him for his dedication, and will say a prayer for you and your family during this difficult time.

You can never have enough good players, and since we need all the help we can get there’s no way we should pass on Gilroy. The roster will take care of itself, the best players will make the team and if Garth has to make some trades, so be it.

If you sign Gilroy, either Witt, Martinek, or Sutton has to go. Unless Gilroy signs a two-way deal and we can hide/teach him the pro game in the A for 10-25 games and trade one of those assets. Thing is that kid isn’t going to sign with anyone knowing Minor league time is in his future. Maybe the plan to move up in the draft with the second- 1st rounder maybe to trade Witt and a pick to move up….the possibilities are endless.

Lori…my deepest sypathy for you and your family. I new “Cep” well. I too am a Nuclear Medicine technologist and trained under him through school. We also worked together. He was one of the best Nuclear Medicine technologists I ever had the priveledge to work with. I learned much from him. He was a passionate Islander fan, Ill never forget the day I saw him on the cover of Newsday. He was a very funny guy and a very passionate Islander fan. May he rest in peace.

to post 20…spending 2 to 3 million on a 24 year old “prospect” is not a flyer..its a gamble..i just think he is going to cost too much

About the depth on D = The Islanders have what looks like the last pick in the 1st round, and 3 second rounders. No one is saying on here that Garth may look to shore up the D with a trade of a pick or 2 for a young 23-26 yr old quality #2 Dman. With all the picks, you just cant draft, use them to your advantage. I see Garth possibly doing this with 1 or 2 picks.

Taking a chance on a highly sought after college player is a no-brainer. If a smart hockey man like Brian Burke thinks it is worthy to do, then it is ood enough for me. There are never guarantees that the player, any player, will work out.
I was hoping last year that we would get into the bidding for former Okposo team-mate Blake Wheeler who was a FA. Boston got him and he is a regular with 20 goals in his rookie year. When only cash is the entry for talent, we should be players that are competitive.
