MEET KATE MURRAY’S OPPONENT
Kristin McElroy running for Hempstead Supervisor

by admin on May 29th, 2009 at 9:24 am

Kate Murray won the last election for Town of Hempstead Supervisor in a blowout, approximately 70,000 votes to 30,000. In November she’ll face Kristin McElroy of Garden City, named yesterday as the Democratic nominee.

While we wait to hopefully speak with McElroy in the next week, here is some background from Nick Giglia’s Let There Be Lighthouse blog. Here’s Newsday’s coverage and here’s the Long Island Business News story. Eden Laikin of Newsday doesn’t mention the Lighthouse Project, while David Reich-Hale of the LIBN does. Hale’s story quotes an insider saying McElroy has to raise a lot of money to have a chance. No doubt Charles Wang and Scott Rechler will pitch in.

Make no mistake: Murray is the heavy favorite in a Republican stronghold. The one difference-maker for McElroy could be her ability to engage voters in support of the Lighthouse Project.

Comments. As always, personal insults at Ms. Murray will be rejected and all future comments will go to moderation.

Kristin McElroy running for Hempstead Supervisor

  1. avatar ME says:

Strange that someone from Garden City would oppose Murray since GC is the main reason behind the opposition of the Lighthouse. I have a feeling Ms McElroy will not be receiving too many votes from her own village come November.

  2. avatar Isles78 says:

I’m not from LI let alone the town of Hempstead and don’t want to get into politics I’m not overly aware of but Kate Murray has handled the Lighthouse project with an obvious agenda. Gaining aprox. 40,000 votes looks to be an impossible task at this point.

  3. avatar AM says:

Well she’s clearly better looking. That should count for something.

  4. avatar kevin fitz says:

Kate Murray is not dumb. She knows not supporting a risky lighthouse venture in an election year is smart. There is NO chance she loses this election outside of some sort of scandal. Politicians do not take risks during election years. the LH is a major major risk politically. If Wang was willing to wait until January for a decision he would get a yes. But he is not willing to wait that long, and I don’t blame him. Why be a pawn to someone only worried about furthering their political career? Go where you are wanted Charles.

    QUEENS OR BUST!

  5. avatar Chris says:

    I’m gonna vote for her

  6. avatar Michael says:

Chris, you’ve now brought yourself to pushing for political candidates on your HOCKEY website. Congratulations, I think it’s a new low…

Are you going to update us on every candidate from th Democratic Party from now on?

  7. avatar Alex O says:

    Im with you AM LOL

  8. avatar Sumo Goalie says:

Go get her, Kristin! I can’t vote because I live in Jersey, but I’d vote for you! And I don’t believe Chris is pushing candidates as this relates to the Islanders in a big way. I’ll push though. LOL

  9. avatar eye on the island says:

can we please stop with the queens or bust talk until we know the lighthouse if officially dead.

despite the fact that kate murray won w/ close to 70% of the vote, she is easily beatable.

turnout was under 20% last election!!!

this vote is going to be decided on voter turnout-and the side that usually wins that is the side w/ the most energy, which is up to us islanders fans to provide.

nick over at lettherbelh and myself feel a town meeeing approx a month from now would be best to put our first grand protest together(and no im sorry wang wont be paying us)

please contact me at jc77318@yahoo.com if you know you would like to be attending or if you have any other ideas

    thanks,

    your rabble rouser

  10. avatar Nick Classic says:

Michael – give it a rest. The Hempstead Supervisor position is one of the most important things relative to the future of our hockey team. To actually suggest CB (or I for that matter on the site) are pushing Ms. McElroy is crazy – we both mention Kate Murray’s blowout win 2 years ago and acknowledge her as a heavy favorite. Doesn’t look like shilling to me.

  11. avatar Beef says:

Michael – where do you see Chris’ endorsement of McElroy? Answer – it’s not there. He’s merely mentioning that there is now a political opponent.

  12. avatar Chris Mc says:

Well lets hope Ms. McElroy is smart enough to support the Lighthouse Project. Thats step one. Step 2 is getting me and 39,999 other Islanders fans to rent a room somewhere in the TOH and become legal residents before the election.

Itd just be nice to see McElroy win so Joseph ‘blow it out your dufflebag’ Mondello doesnt have his puppet in office anymore.

Oh and Michael, blow it out you’re dufflebag and leave CB alone.

  13. avatar Chris TMC says:

Hey Michael (6): exactly where is CB “pushing” anything or anyone? CB is giving information that people keeps asking him about over and over. Why do you have a problem with him simply stating some facts? Please read the entry again- objectively, without a response like this prewritten in your mind!

  14. avatar Fist of Gillies says:

    GC High represents!

  15. avatar Michael says:

The Hempstead Supervisor position means nothing for this team. If the LH fails, which it has, the Islanders move to Queens. Big Deal.

And for anybody to vote for a candidate over the LH is laughable. Do you honestly believe that these politicians care at all?

  16. avatar kevin fitz says:

I guess LI really is stuck in the 60′s. Who elects Republican’s anymore?? :)

  17. avatar Frustrated Voter says:

Go Kristin, go! I hope you support the Islanders. How do I donate money to your campaign? I don’t know who’s worse – Kate Murray or Kate Gosselin.

  18. avatar Paul in Canada says:

#7 this IS hockey news as it relates to who will be in charge of the town that the Islanders are trying to stay afloat in. I don’t see Botta endorsing her in here not to mention that its May and, yet again, the Islanders are nowhere to be seen.

Also keep wondering why Murray didn’t just remain neutral on the Lighthouse instead of showing obvious signs of negativity toward it. Don’t see how its risky if you just show up to the meetings and smile and keep your personal thoughts private.

  19. avatar bob l says:

cb, stop playing sides! (just kidding) it’s obvious some people are making assumptions (possibly fair ones too) but the fact remains if you didnt report on this subject your inbox would be flooded with, “why didnt you write about the new dem running vs murray?”

  20. avatar Millsie says:

She could make a strong showing espcially in light of Obama-mania. I typically vote Republican, but I did vote for Obama last year and she’ll likely get my vote. Even my parents who used to follow Bill O’Reilly like he was the Messiah have moved a bit more toward the center. Anything is possible.

  21. avatar Tom says:

Charles B. Wang’s deadline is October 3rd. Election Day is well after that. How far will Charles B. Wang be willing to push back the deadline IF Kristin wins? He’ll have to push it back at least 3-4 months. Kristin would take office in Jan 2010. Will Charles B. Wang wait that long?

  22. avatar eye on the island says:

i can guarantee there are at least 10k islanders fans in the toh who did not vote last supervisor election(myself included)

then add in the fact that there are now more registered dems then republicans in the toh and you have a recipe for electoral success

suddenly does not seem so attainable right?

email me at jc77318@yahoo.com if you wish to participate in the next organized pro-lighthouse event

  23. avatar JLaMonica16 says:

    what a fox

  24. avatar Nick Classic says:

Michael – for the last time, there is no formal Queens offer. The Lighthouse dying does not mean the Islanders “just move to Queens” and the sooner people realize this the better.

  25. avatar admin says:

I’m convinced some people don’t even read. There is no endorsement of McElroy. Never even heard of her. Who knows? Maybe after I speak with her and see what she’s about, I will lend my very minor support. But really, try reading before ripping…CB

  26. avatar Spartiarti - RVC says:

what garden city oppositon? I think only person against this is Kate Murray herself b/c it requires her to actually sit down and work.

Lets face it, there isnt anything in Uniondale except the Nassau Coloseum. that traffic excuse is lame. its located right of the meadowbrook parkway and minutes from LIE and Northern state.

I wish a more recognizable candidate would go against here. Someone us Town of Hempstead residents know.

Either way im voting against KATE. you can put that Crazy Chimp from Ct against her and i would vote for it over Kate Murray.

  27. avatar StevieL says:

Go Kristin! Today’s Newsday is chock full of Kate Murray and her good deeds for the TOH!! She is putting in a clocktower in Roosevelt!!And Welcome to Roosevelt Banners up! I Can’t wait to go there and check out the improvements!! Of more interest is the article on the “Heartland Town Square” project at Pilgrim State in Suffolk. 476 acres of proposed development. Sounds a lot like the Lighthouse , only bigger. I wonder if Wang can get an arena slipped into those plans?? I think it bears watching!!

  28. avatar Bryan says:

Im registered and will be at the voting booth the first Tuesday in Novmeber. That means we only need 39,999 others to do the same and we will get at least a tie. If we all get together this can get done.

  29. avatar MJS says:

#4 – Since politics is as much about spinning the facts as it is about anything else, the idea that the Lighthouse is risky is relative. Kate is standing against over-urbanization of the Island and saying that it will hurt more than it will help anything. There is no doubt that Kristin will stand on the other side of this issue, that even though the developers stand to turn a profit from the deal, it will create thousands of jobs and in a recession how could you not do that? I personally think that Kate is betting that there are enough people that are hardline Republican that will vote for her anyway. If there are enough, then she wins. The only thing is that in the last presidential election even strong Republican states went Democrat because the Republicans more or less refused to do anything but cut taxes. Kate is taking a similar risk by not supporting the Lighthouse as fiscal responsibility in a recession would likely include getting people jobs. I’m guessing that Kate still has the votes and Kristin will not have the money.

  30. avatar OhNoItsComeau57 says:

In the looks department she is the JFK to Murray’s Nixon. Score one for McElroy!

  31. avatar Michael says:

OK so you’re giving free positive adverisement to a candidate because you don’t support them. That makes sense. Do you usually write articles on people you never heard of and don’t care about? If so, can you write a piece on me too? I’m an Isles fan, so that makes it an Isles related topic, right?

  32. avatar Sumo Goalie says:

She has nice bone structure. Any chance of her running for governor of NJ? We could use a new one.

And I do wish this team had more excitement on the ice than off it for a change.

Hey Chris, maybe you should add a section to the blog called ‘Ask Chris’ where we can submit questions that you can post and answer. Just a thought.

  33. avatar ME says:

People like this rabble rouser guy are the reason Islander fans are looked upon as a joke. Going to rally’s with your Islander gear on is silly. This is why you are made fun of by others. How about going to a rally without your Islander gear on, dressed in normal clothing and letting them know your discontent with their handling of the Lighthouse and other issues. More people in the crowd will listen to you without wearing the teams gear because more people will take you seriously instead of looking at you with your jersey and hat on and just rolling their eyes at you and your actions.

  37. avatar beatlebailey says:

if i could vote in this election she would have it. although i would vote for the nigerian go if it opposed kathy bates aka kate murray aka capt kangaroo..seriously imagine her with a mustache and you have the capt.

  38. avatar Chris Mc says:

I think 32 was one of Murrays goons that stood in front of JC’s sign

  39. avatar Matt says:

    best of luck Kristen.

  41. avatar ME says:

#34 You cannot be further off with your comments. You need to re-read my post. I said there are better ways to show your discontent instead of going their with the teams gear on. Many people there do not care about the Islanders so they immediately write you off as being just a fan and nothing else. Those are the people that need to be convinced of all the reasons beside’s saving the Islanders that this Lighthouse project is good for them and all of Nassau County.

  45. avatar Mike from Bohemia says:

“Rabble Rouser”? Are you joking? What ever happened to free speech? Give it a rest…….

  46. avatar Angry Bill says:

There are way more than 40,000 Islander fans on Long Island. Throw in family and friends and we can definitely make a huge impact on this election.

It will be every Islander fans duty to be there for this election with as many people in tow as we can find.

  47. avatar IAmSparticus says:

Can’t vote for McElroy, but will be sending.a check. Think of Long Island without the Islanders…that’s what you’re looking at if Mondello and his goons win. Wake up people.

  48. avatar Daniel says:

This is a good blog with some good ideas and a place to discuss NY Islanders issues. Unfortunately, most Islander fans are only concerned with the team staying here and while that is important to me, I (A Nassau County resident) am not sold on this ginourmus project. Yes we NEED a new arena for the Islanders and ancillary events like Disney on Ice, concerts, etc. but I am not sold on the idea of a mammoth city. I think elements of it are spot on (Entertainment, hotels, etc) but low income housing? Please, as if Long Island needs more houses, we already have enough (pricey, but it’s there) and JUST because it’s tied to the Islanders is no reason to sign off on it without thought. I think the LH gets done in a scaled down fashion in the end, but we’ll see what happens

  49. avatar John Keitz says:

First, stop ripping CB for an endorsement he never gave. Second, if he were to endorse this candidate, it would not turn this away from being a hockey site. Unfortunately, politics is involved in whether or not we even have a hockey team to talk about here, so a political endorsement would be entirely appropriate in this case, if one were to come.

Finally, as someone who grew up in Nassau County (now residing in Nevada) I know that a good percentage of the voting public has absolutely no idea about a single issue on the table, but merely votes for either the party (in this case Republican) or the incumbent. Learning the issues is hard work. Most people vote the way other people tell them to. Just look at the documentary about a series of Obama voters after the election and the issues that they had no clue about. They actually voted based upon what they liked and then attributed those traits to Obama. Then came the Pelosi documentary about a series of McCain voters at a NASCAR event that played like an episode of King of the Hill (I voted for McCain and these people embarassed me by association). My point here is not to slam Obama or McCain voters but to point out the simple fact that most voters do not vote based upon issues. Therefore, barring a major scandal, Kate Murray is a shoo in.

  50. avatar StevieL says:

Me #33! I didn’t realize that Islanders fans are viewed as ” a Joke”!! I don’t view myself as a joke! On the Contrary I think Islander fans should be applauded for their undying loyalty, support and passion for a franchise that has done nothing in 20 years! From what I can tell from most discussions, isle fans are intelligent, well educated and good citizens who live and thrive in one of the most difficult counties in the country to survive in!I am always amazed at the dedication of this fan base and I think we stack up well against any fan base in the league! We, like most any fan bases have a wahoo here and there, but your generalization is way off base!

  51. avatar StevieL says:

CB! Looks like a memo went out to the Murray gang to get on your blog today!!

  52. avatar WM says:

Thank you, Chris, for keeping all of us attuned to the goings-on of the Lighthouse and all things Islanders!

  53. avatar Luigi says:

To MJS and the other libs on this forum – stop making this a dissertation on what is wrong with the GOP, local and national issues are not related. Besides, when the federal government is bankrup due to Obama’s spendin frenzy and we’re in the same shape as California is in – and make no mistake, that is right around the corner – this debate will seem childish compared to the problems the US is going to have.

  54. avatar Nick Classic says:

Daniel (I know I’m out after this post, but them’s the breaks) – you’re of course welcome to have any position you want on the project. However, I hope you can read up and get more informed before you make a final call (that goes for ANYONE). You talk about housing, and I’ll use myself as an example – saying there are lots of $500,000 single-family homes on the market has nothing to do with affordable, apartment-style units, since I couldn’t afford a house but could afford an apartment. I used an automotive analogy before – Kia won’t halt production if people aren’t buying BMW’s, since nobody who would buy a Kia is looking at a BMW.

Either way, this thing will ultimately rise and fall based on its benefit to the community – I encourage you to find out more.

  55. avatar Pete M says:

Michael is obviously one of those Kate Murray shills who comes out of the woodwork when a posting like this is posted on this blog. Check his IP address, it probably originates in a Town of Hempstead office.

As another poster mentioned, the Newsday story of the development on the former Pilgrim State property is very interesting. It states that the Town of Islip board approved the developer’s environmental impact study, bringing it to the public comment stage, despite it containing over 20 unresolved issues. That project is 3 TIMES the size of the Lighthouse. Now that’s what can be done when the local government has a vision of the future and is willing to work with a developer to move forward.

  56. avatar janne niinimaa says:

CB, there’s a $4billion project proposed for the Pilgrim Psych Center, and it dwarfs the Lighthouse in size and scope. Just cut the cord on the Lighthouse talk and partner up with them. It sounds like that development stands a much better chance.

  57. avatar Chris Mc says:

#44, thank you. I agree that we should have people that are showing support no matter what, and they can dress in whatever attire they want. I think it’s important for Kate Murray to know that she’s alienating a whole group of people, Islander fans, not so much with her views towards the Lighthouse, but the way she has gone about it.

I think if we have 50 Islander fans show up in suits, we blend in and are just 50 citizens. If we have 50 Islander fans wearing a uniformed attire (not so much a jersey, but maybe Lighthouse T-Shirts) we stand out as a group of people Murray will not be getting support from. I;m not going to get on my soapbox and start talking about free speech or the rights of every citizen, but don’t backhandedly call someone a joke bc of what they wore, because at least he was there voicing his opinion.

  58. avatar Chris TMC says:

Luigi (51): I agree with you that this is no place for complaining about national politics. But why did you say that and then immediately follow that statement with they very thing you stated does not belong here- complaining about national politics? That doesnt make any sense!!!

  59. avatar ME says:

#44 I did not come up with that name. That is what this gentleman prefers to call himself. Free speech is a beautiful thing if it is used properly. Going to a meeting where there are possibly hundreds of people there that do not care about the Islanders and only care about issues surrounding the town with your Islander gear on is not an effective way of making yourself be heard.

  60. avatar Tom says:

Has McElroy said anything about the Lighthouse pro or con? Article mentioned she ran for office last year, I would assume it must have come up in that election as well.

  61. avatar Irish Isle says:

  63. avatar G. HOWITT says:

  64. avatar Jon Mac says:

I just got off the phone with the Nassau County Democratic Party and I asked them if Kristen had a campaign website. At this time she does not, but she will have one soon. I told the person who answered the phone about point blank and he said he just got the link on his blackberry. It looks like the word is getting out. He is going to call me when there is a website up and running. McElroy 09!

  65. avatar Ed J says:

I don’t see any issue at all with CB posting who running against MRS Murry. The reason he is posting it because it does have something to do the lighthouse and that does have something to do with that team that is on Long Island but soon may not have a home.

  66. avatar RichM says:

Love political talk on a hockey blog!

  67. avatar G. HOWITT says:

  69. avatar stevedepot says:

Has anyone heard her voice an opinion on the Lighthouse project yet? Honestlyt, this is the first time I’ve heard her name. Can’t wait to hear her stance. Anyway, when I first saw her photo, she kind of reminds me of a younger version of Fergie, not the pop star, the Dutchess of York – Sarah Ferguson, no?

  70. avatar Alex O says:

Hey Michael, if he wants to give free advertizement to a political candidate on his blog for which you pay nothing and if you dont want to dont have to read, he can. Just like you can shill for the republicans on a blog you write too. The reality is that he can have his opinion on this if he wants it. Nobody is forcing you to read it or take the advice if it is given.

  71. avatar isles99 says:

i see a lot of bashing this article for no sound reason. even i wonder sometimes if people are drinking the kool aid on this site but WHERE IN THE ARTICLE DOES IT EXPLICITLY SAY VOTE FOR THIS LADY? Just because a bunch of isles fans in support of the lighthouse are fixed on voting for a democrat does not mean that the author of this article has written something that cab be construed as “free advertisment” or support for the demoncrat candidate. to those people who think he is in fact doing that, have you stopped to think that there might be a difference in telling who the candidate is and who to vote for? by your stupid, illogical, and irrational reasoning, every author that writes an article about a candidate is showing support for that candidate. you know some people just have to shut the **** up if they don’t know what they are talking about or are trying to get everyone riled up.

  72. avatar Noomz says:

    i’m surprised. And very encouraged!

That loud sucking noise Kate Murray heard last night after the nominee was announced was:
    1) moderate Republican
    2) Garden City
    votes heading Kristen McElroy’s way.

I was at Murray’s re-election rally last Friday and it was pathetic. A few commenters above are still stuck on Joe’s “Build The Future” sign and his Isles jersey. How’s that inappropriately expressing free speech?

Since our elections seem to be more about style & popularity than issues, I feel comfortable predicting a new ToH Supervisor come Nov09.

Plus, a #1 draft pick in June. Suddenly, I’m feeling very good about the Islanders future in 2010 and beyond. Islanders win. Kristen McElroy win.

  73. avatar Luke R says:

68, according Nick Giglia at http://islandersindependent.com/, he talked to her recently and she is “unabashedly pro-lighthouse.”

sorry to link away from your blog, CB. supporting McElroy or not, this story has everything to do with the Islanders and needs to be covered. thank you.

  74. avatar lovin lethbridge says:

CB – if the requirement be that we read before ripping you have taken all the fun away :D
    just kidding of course

  75. avatar Marc from Troy says:

To Luigi (52)… If you truly believe that “local and national issues are not related”, then you’re even more ignorant than your ability to spell would suggest.

To everyone… The Newsday article that CB linked to is – surprise – useless. The LIBN article isn’t bad. But, if you haven’t yet done so, you should all do yourselves a favor and read Nick Classic’s post on his site – particularly his “Bottom Line.” Well said, Nick.

I’ve said this before, and nothing I’ve read today changed my opinion: Lighthouse backers need to get out the facts and their message better than it’s been done to date. That must start with Wang & Rechler, but it’s up to all of us to help somehow, too.

  76. avatar geduffer says:

    G. Howitt (35) – This project will NOT raise your taxes. The developers are asking for NO tax dollars to build the project and the project will broaden the tax base so that taxes in Uniondale and the town of Hempstead will go down if the project is completed.

Michael – Tell everyone the truth, you’re really Joe Mondello, aren’t you?

    Two final words:

    ELECT KRISTIN!!!!

  77. Isles say this is an Islanders’ blog and this is a very important issue to the Islanders, political parts and all. (This Michael guy is just edging you guys.) Chris we need to get this lady’s stand on the Lighthouse Project. Obviously you’re working on it.

  78. avatar frank says:

The Hempstead Supervisor position means nothing for this team. If the LH fails, which it has, the Islanders will have a new owner who might try and not run the team himself…team is better off in queens if there was an offer….

  79. avatar MJS says:

#52 – You’re right, I am one of those commie “libs.” (Come on, you know you want to call me that) But let’s take this slow shall we?

What I said about national politics was an example. The GOP lost the presidential election in a landslide. To do this some typically Republican strongholds had to go Democrat. Also, a number of states saw a trend towards the Democrats in local politics mirroring the presidential election.

That reference was just an example.

Also, what I posted was not a negative comment about the GOP. There is nothing wrong with being the champion of the tax cut. People don’t have money? Cut taxes. Fix health care? Give a tax credit. That’s fine. That is also one of Kate Murray’s primary accomplishments.

The rest of my post was an either or scenario. People will elect a person or a party based on their own circumstances and the information they believe. So, based on that, politics is very much about spinning facts. Going positive, Kristin would want the Lighthouse for the jobs it would likely create, Kate wants to slow it down because it would change Hempstead’s complexion. You choose which you like best. You might not even need to as Hempstead seems content with Kate Murray.

  80. avatar Ann Aquarian says:

  83. avatar Tom says:

It’s funny, but everybody had a hissy fit when Mondello said something about Charles B. Wang paying the hecklers at Kate Murray’s campaign event. On here ANYBODY who has thoughtful concerns regarding the LH is a ‘goon’? Be nice people, even to opposing views. Remember the LH isn’t about the Islanders, it’s about Long Island– RIGHT? Bettering LI isn’t THAT what the LH is all about?

  84. avatar 4peatsake says:

Hmmm. We need to stop the over-urbanization of Nassau County and that eyesore we call the coliseum is where we should draw the line? The county (excepting some of the North Shore) is so infilled with strip plazas and malls, there’s no where else to develop. Where was this anti-urbanization sentiment 20 years ago? The genie is out of that bottle.

Kate Murray doesn’t understand why Wang wont spend more millions to redevelop the coliseum, which is subject to a ground lease on land owned by the County, so the improvements can eventually benefit the county, not him. While he’s at it, he can pay SMG 85% of food concessions revenues and 100% of parking revenues and in return SMG doesn’t even clean up between hockey games.

This county let Roosevelt Raceway shut down, the Islanders will be next, and for local entertainment we can all go down to the mall and buy crap we don’t need or wait 8 hours for a tee time at Bethpage.

  85. avatar Danielle says:

Everyone needs to stop turning this into a political debate. This is not about Republicans vs Democrats, this is about people coming together on an issue we feel strongly about, regardless of political party affiliation. Those who vote blindly based on political party alone are just tools, anyway.

Talk about “pushing an agenda”. CB merely stated a nuetral fact that another candidate has entered the race, but those ripping him for supposedly “endorsing” her have done more to put down another group and endorse their own. This is not a team nor media sponsored blog, so Chris has the freedom to print any opinions he so chooses, even if it IS endorsing a candidate for town supervisor. If he wants to rally support for something that could benefit the team (and subsequently, its fans) that he has worked with and written about for years, good for him. He’s doing something more than trolling a blog to argue with people.

If you don’t care about this team, don’t read this blog. Let’s go Islanders.

  86. avatar Steve says:

Do votes from the Canadian contingent count? Yay Kristin! She would likely win cest looking municipal politician also!

  87. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Kristin McElroy is 1/2 the woman Kate Murray is….maybe even 2/3′s. LOL. Grimace should be voted out of office. She is a corrupt politicon pushing her own agenda. I wonder what kinds of plum job Murray got her Daddy now that the Newsday article forced him out? Vote for Kristin McElroy for the simple fact she isn’t snide Kate Murray who gets jobs for her Daddy, because Kate Murray refused to attend even one meeting on the LI, because she is so stupid she announces a huge media blitz (at tax payers expense) to attempt to lure stimulus dollars when she wasn’t even smart enough to find out if it was possible, because like an idiot she still keeps insisting Wang can have his refurbrished arena (at his own expense) and she either isn’t smart enough to grasp it isn’t financially viable or just doesn’t care. Kate Murray offers solutins that are no solutions and she continues to ignore the citizens and talk down to everyone.

Do I even need to get into her and Mondello’s intimidation tactics last week?

  88. avatar Chris TMC says:

Tom (82): I agree with you.
I also find the gawking comments here from guys about McElroys looks as lame as the negative ones about Murays looks. Cant people talk about a woman without objectifying her and making her looks the focus? I know some of you think youre being nice but really, its not. Please guys, there is no reason for this.

  89. avatar Islander505 says:

    Chris TMC…

In view of the fact that McElroy is gonna need A LOT of money to defeat Murray..

And from a practical and pragmatic perspective……which will be in violation of your revulsion towards the obvious sexism that has already emerged in this upcoming McElroy/Murray fight.

Is it too early to get the Islander 2010
calendars printed and out for sale featuring Ms. McElroy and the Ice Girls?

    Put me down for 12…

  90. avatar Willis says:

Moving on, did anyone else get an email from LighthouseLI.com regarding a meeting on Tuesday?

  91. avatar kevin says:

if the islanders are smart then they will back her up financially and if shes smart she will get the project done. isles should definitley let it be known on say the website but thats only if shes willing to do her part

  92. avatar Irish Isle says:

Hay Frank #77 – As Chris Botta stated before, who is lining up to buy the Islanders besides Jim Basille?

  93. avatar JAM says:

    She’s got looks
    She’s got charisma
    She’s a Democrat
    She has no experience.

Why is she running for Town of Hempstead Supervisor?

She should just run for President.

  94. avatar Ajax says:

I will give my support, HOWEVER, living in Suffolk, I still have to wonder how many supporters there are in TOH.

  95. avatar Isles fan Ken says:

Thanks for keeping us informed CB, I really can’t believe some of these posts. Anyone that doesn’t understand that this political issue is conneted to the Islanders is either not paying attention or doesn’t care. Vote Kristen!

  96. avatar Brian From Jersey says:

    (I can’t believe I’m saying this)
    VOTE DEMOCRATIC!!!!!

  97. avatar 19 ISLE in NJ 22 says:

I read your attached links CB … Kristen has a huge battle … and $$$ = ammo … so she’s going to need every $$$ she can get … those that want Murray out of office to get the LHP going … this is where it’s time to put your $$$ where your mouth is … literally.

Speaking of $$$ … CB … or others in the know in Nassau … I keep hearing about NYS kicking around the prospect of legalized gambling … one specific prospect was an American Indian tribe in Eastern LI… What would be the prospect of having the 5star hotel at the Light House also have gambling?? Talk about revenue generating … it also would enable Charles to scale down the residences a bit … however a whole new battle with gambling would ensue I’m sure.

  98. avatar Blizzard says:

I will tell you one thing, I will be watching Newday closely, as they havent mentioned the LH project. However in todays Newsday there is a peace on public growth where they present the LH proposal and interestingly enough Heartland town square wich is proposed for the Pilgrim state site in western suffolk county. Maybe Wang can hook up with the developer there and add an arena ….

  99. avatar Mike from Bohemia says:

Why don’t we try to organize a rally on June 26th, an hour or two before the draft, in the parking lot. The fans will be there in numbers. I know there are concerns about making it an issue about the TOH & Nassau County, not an Islander issue. However, in unity there is strength, and this may be the best way to get a large number of supporters together. Invite Ms. McElroy (and Murray, she’ll never show). Maybe even Newsday will cover it…..yea, right…
    Any thoughts?

  100. avatar kevin says:

brian from jersey, i felt the same way when i heard that murray was a rupublican i was mad. i guess there are exceptons.

  101. avatar frank says:

if they were put up for sale trust me there would be buyers who would get rid of the smg deal, they have a great cable deal….a good on ice product without smg and a new arena is all they need, plus the great cable deal….is nassau doesnt work they could possibly go to bk or queens

  102. avatar Nick Classic says:

Mike (darn, I know this is #5) – stay tuned to my blog and a few others. We’re getting a rally together for Hempstead Town Hall and there will likely be others after that. Your idea is good as well and if you want to chat about it at any point – lettherebelighthouse@gmail.com

  103. avatar Strummer's Army says:

Is it me or does it seem like there are several new posters today…..perhaps TOH employees trying to sway our opinion.

Yes, people got upset when Mondello said Wang was paying those people to be there because it is a lie and it shows his confrontational approach where none is needed. Had Wang paid people to show up there would have been many more.

  104. avatar Tom says:

For anybody in attendance to these rallys…IMHO, don’t wear Islander gear. The LH is about the betterment of LI. THAT’S where you’re focus needs should be. You’ve got to give the illusion more than just Islander fans care about the LH. Right now it seems Islander fans are the only people that want the LH. IMHO, the meer illusion people outside of Islander Nation care about the LH will help. Just my 2-cents, but you don’t show up for an important civic meeting dressed for a hockey game. Most of us don’t go to hockey games in a suit & tie…Dress for the occasion.

  105. avatar trippstar22 says:

A rally at 3pm on a Friday in the parking lot will not draw the amount of people.

  106. avatar kevin fitz says:

Can we please stop with the fake idea that the LH is not ALL about the Islanders. YES IT IS! stop with this “betterment of LI” routine (not picking on only you tom, sorry), because that’s just a fantasy. Wang’s only leverage with this is the Islanders. If he doesn’t have them, then there would be ZERO chance of this getting done. If the Islanders move to Queens do you think this would have a chance of happening? Of course not. So go ahead and wear Islanders gear because they are the real issue here. No LH = no NYI.

  107. avatar Michael says:

    #54 (Pete M.)

Oh yeah, I must be one of “Murray’s shills” if I disagree with CB. I see you think at a very high level.

  108. avatar D-man says:

She is smokin’ hot… and i really think that helps… younger, hotter, obviously smarter (if you read her background)… these are things voters are starting to desire in candidates… where can we send money?

  109. avatar Michael says:

    D-Man:

That’s why you would vote for someone? Looks?

Maybe Paris Hilton should run the country.

    (That is a frightening thought!)

  110. avatar thor says:

Does anyone have her office number to start giving her support???

  111. avatar Luke R says:

Michael, you’re not doing yourself any favors making more posts on here than anyone else and not taking a stance as to why you are so against the lighthouse. no points you have made is saying anything but “hey islanders fans, shut up and let your team move away.” if you’re trying to make a statement, make it already, otherwise you’re preaching to the wrong choir.

  112. avatar Tom says:

What you can do if you live in the area where we have to dump kate murry is call the local Democratic Headquarters, volunteer your time, make phone calls, talk to your neighbors, family anyone whos voting in this race. I live in Suffolk but will come to Nassau to make phone calls. Through effort and teamwork we can come together and knock her out of office.

  113. avatar Smokey says:

Lots of good political capital, experience running against a heavy favorite, momentum on several key issues (including the Lighthouse), perfect storm of Suozzi running at the top of the ticket and the presence of many more registered Democrats after Obamania.

Bonus: she’s hot. The day is ours, ladies and gentlemen. Carpe diem.

  114. avatar fwb says:

She is a definite looker. With that – anything Lighthouse positive is ok with me. Vote here in. Sack that other dope.

  115. avatar Michael says:

    Luke R:

I’m not against the LH. I’m for anything that keeps our team on LI or NYC. I just think that there’s no way in hell that it gets done.

  116. avatar D-man says:

Michael: if you think Paris Hilton is hot then you have serious problems. Looks helps. Younger and smarter help too. If most people had to choose between a dumb fat cow or a young smart beautiful woman… why would anyone vote for the cow unless they wanted some tainted milk?

  117. avatar Alex O says:

Michael (#107) you can disagree with CB all you want but in the end I don’t see what you are disagreeing with. If in his opinion he thinks this is Isles related (which it is, KM anti lighthouse, opponent pro lighthouse, lighthouse important to Isles future) or if he wants to support her, he is allowed, his blog. If you don’t like her or want to vote for another that’s all on you; but to say it isn’t Isles related, and you aren’t angry because you are pro republican is disingenuous. If anybody has a political axe to grind here it is you. Make a point that isn’t politically motivated about him posting this and you won’t get so beat up. Intelligent discussion is fostered here. To call posting about this a new low is…… well,I wont lower myself to your new low. If you are so anti lighthouse and pro KM you are more than welcome to start your own blog and blog about the evils of the Dem party all you want and see how many Isles fans follow you there. Its a free country

  119. avatar Pete M says:

Michael (114):So why your opposition to Chris posting a story reporting that the opponent to one of the main obstacles to the project has been named? Your posts fit a pattern of people who only show up here when a story like this, or the Roger Corbin saga; you know -the political stuff, hits the web, sing the republican party line, then disappear.

  120. avatar Alex O says:

Lighthouse keeps Isles here, KM anti Lighthouse, opponent pro Lighthouse how is that not Isles related? You can hate politics all you want but politics in LI will be a huge determining factor in the Isles future. So again he shouldnt?? why because you dont like it? because you dont want pro Dem support?? Id even respect you if you came out and said it.

  121. avatar Alex O says:

another good example why people get on your case , way to go with the intelligent discussion or comment

  122. avatar Michael says:

There isn’t going to be a LH so stop using that in your arguement. Murray and her opposition mean nothing to me, because the LH isn’t going to happen. It’s way too big a project.

And no, I don’t want to see Democratic support on here. I also don’t want to see Republican support, because this isn’t a political blog. I don’t want to hear about politics.

I just want to see hockey, nothing else, and CB does a better job than anyone at that. I just wish that was all he’d write about.

  123. avatar Alex O says:

So no LH because you say its too big, Well If I was you Id call you Nostredamus now for that huge prediction, but I wont so again if you dont like the content (which is all Isles related) then dont read. And If I was Nostredamus or Oliver Stone, Id say wow isnt that one of the Reps big anti LH comment that it is too big???

  124. avatar D-man says:

Michael: you have exceeded 3 posts (by like 7 or 8)… respect the rules. No more posts here.

  125. avatar Pete M says:

If you were a regular visitor here you would know the rules. That’s my fourth (sorry Chris). I’m done.

  126. avatar Alex O says:

Wow Mike youre are soo intelligent, see why we love you so. Internet courage is amazing. Youre right, I cant spell and have bad grammar, but at least my points make sense.

  127. avatar JKP on LI says:

Here’s a solution for anyone out there having trouble with this post: if there’s a post on something you don’t want to read about, don’t read it. I won’t bother discussing how ignorant it is to pretend that politics aren’t hugely relevant to life in general, and especially to this hockey team right now. As Chris said above, if someone doesn’t understand that by now, they’re never going to.

  128. avatar Jakeisles says:

I never voted for a Democrat in my life, she will be the 1st.

  129. avatar bossy4president says:

That Kristin McElroy is some piece of AAASSSSHHHHHHHHHHH……

  130. avatar The Real Vukota says:

Michael: Unfortunately politics are playing a big roll in whether or not the isles leave or stay. There is no denying that. In a “normal” world regarding the Isles politics would not be talked about, but as you can see this isn’t a normal situation.

There was talk of a new sports complex being built by belmont, now with them almost certain to get casino as well the Isles could move there as well. It’s a long shot, but the more options the better.

  131. avatar tool123 says:

#135 Bosy4President…..I’m sure Kate Murray feels the same way!!!! DOOOOUUUGGHH!!!

CB… I disapointed that we don’t have some full body shots.

Seriously… I love the idea of removing Katew with any chimp, monkey, hotty or fugly thing as long as they support the LH. The problem as stated earlier is that the new person doesn’t start until Jan 2010.
