Guaranteed with the politics of Snow and Gorton, would it not be logical the coach wants someone 100% subserviant to Gordon? A "non-threat"? I just get the feeling that the team dynamics are awful. Chris? Does Gordon have Snow tinkering and would it be logical to assume he'd want his coaching staff to be 100% behind him? Especially given the "don't blame the system" items we read about last year?

Lovin: I don't think DiPietro makes a choice between making an athletic save vs. a fundamentally sound save. You just make the save. I guess I understand your point... but how do you differentiate between the two? Was Hasek fundamentally sound or incredibly athletic? What about Tim Thomas more recently. Flopping all over the place... not very fundamental but he was one of the top goalies the past two years.

CGS: I hope that was sarcastic about Barry Melrose and MacTavish. Probably couldn't be any two worse choices.

i would love to see David Marcoux as goaltending consultant. He teaches strong fundamentals, and allows your athleticism to bail you out after the fundamentals fail. not the other way around, which seems to be DP's style. Maybe he stays healthy if his fundamentals are sound, and relying less on his athleticism

I still think having a good team with good players is the answer....
I have to believe if Dean Chonoweth was to leave a GM/Coach position to be an assistant....it would need to be for a well respected experienced coach that he could theoretically learn alot from. OR a job where is locked in as the future coach.
I don't see how the Isles assistent job appeals to him. He be better off waiting until the next time the Isles head coaching vacancy inevitabley opens up.
Gord Dineen or Greg Gilbert seem more likely to take the job if Isles were interested.

Focus on special teams play and developing the youth and the answer as to who is the best choice will surface during the interview process. Gordon is also a video guru of sorts so preparation will be important.

This is a wait and see on the assistant coaches positions but it will be good positioning for the coaching staff to be together and on the same page. Hopefully sooner that later!

Does Cronin somehow prefer the NCAA schedule? I'm surprised he'd rather be coaching college than the AHL or NHL. I'll admit to knowing very little about what makes a good coach, but he seems to have made a good impression on everyone everywhere he's coached.

The 2005-06 team was pretty bad, but that doesn't mean that Stirling was a good coach who got a bad rap. One way or another, he lost the team. I'm also unimpressed with the fact that his 03-04 team, which didn't have Lukowich as the #3 d-man, lost six of six games to a bad Ranger team and ended up squeaking in with the 8th seed because of it. If they didn't have to play the presidents trophy runners-up and eventual champs in the first round, maybe they could've built some momentum and done some damage.
