PHOTO OP DONE, REAL WORK BEGINS
After hand-holding, a legit Lighthouse meeting

Islanders Point Blank on Twitter

Positive evidence that Friday’s “Hands Across Nassau” scene in Tom Suozzi’s office was not just a photo op: Point Blank has learned that after The Meeting, there was a meeting.

After Suozzi - aka The Broker - boasted of a new spirit of cooperation and collaboration, there was actually some collaboratin’. Suozzi counsel Jeff Forcelli, Town of Hempstead consigliere Joseph Ra, Lighthouse prez Michael Picker and Lighthouse SEQRA compliance expert (now that’s hot) Terri Elkowitz sat down at Nassau headquarters to discuss next steps.

One source said, “There was a positive feeling in the room, a feeling that everyone was committed to work together, make deadlines, move the Lighthouse Project along this summer.”

It’s way too early to plan a christening party for the Tom Suozzi Celebration Plaza or the Kate Murray Grand Canal. We could even know a lot more about Hempstead’s approach as early as the July 7 Town Hall meeting. But Friday’s meeting after The Meeting is a sure sign of progress, if not hope.

So we’re having a meeting to discuss the meeting and plan another meeting…

More meetings and more politics. blah blah blah. Build it already or don’t!

CB, Good news… but I get the reference to the Godfather image. A bunch of people got whacked after that scene.

hey CB, on your next LHP update (which will be announcing the ground breaking date) Can you photoshop JT in a #91 orange and blue hardhat, holding a silver shovel, waiting to break ground? — mmm makes you feel all warm inside thinking about that don’t it?!!

  6. 6 LooNTooNs

There all discussing how they can scale the project back and make every one happy. Thants just my opinion.

  7. 7 Jay

I hope this is more good news. CB I think you deserve a lot of credit, along with the readers of this blog and Islandermania if the lighthouse project ever does actually move forward.

    It’s spelled “Consigliere”, Chris!

And this sounds good, I admit, I thought the LH was dead!

  9. 9 G. HOWITT

When the Islander’s draft JT = immediate TV exposure, no more NHL negatvity..

  10. 10 Chris Mc

Could you imagine the group of kids we had last year with a full year under their belts, JT donning the Isles Blue and Orange, and the ground breaking for a new arena…it’ll be the most promise this franchise has had in 20 years…next thing you’ll know we’ll be able to attract a big name FA. OK, maybe im pushing it

  11. 11 G. HOWITT

#10 that’s how it starts my friend. its like starting a business. we have to reinvent ourselve’s. DO u her that Mr. Snow!

  12. 12 Blizzard

Agreed Chris #10. I actually wouldnt be surprised if we could actually attract a higher tier FA this year. There will be a willingness to be a part of something special. Stay tuned its gonna be one hell of a summer in Islander land.

  13. 13 KH

Chris, it’s SEQRA, not SEQUA. Stands for State Environmental Quality Review Act.

  14. 14 Staten Islander

wonderful news. love the godfather reference. hopefully they wont have to hide a gun behind a old fashion toilet with a pull chain in a restaurant in the bronx

  15. 15 Mike

I’m just glad both sides stopped acting childish and are finally getting things done.

  16. 16 Strummer's Army

This is another positive sign. Great things are happening again on the Island.

Look for the towers to be scaled down from 15 stories to 10 stories in keeping with the size of structures at Hofstra and the former EAB building. Also look for much needed ‘green’ features to be added, ranging from solar panels on the majority of the roofs and wind generating turbines.

  18. 18 Dominik (Lighthouse Hockey)

This is a meeting about the new cover sheets for the TPS reports … didn’t you get the memo?

In all seriousness, it’s just good they’re talking. Whatever final form this takes, it can’t happens unless they get together, play nice, and actually hammer a roadmap out.

  19. 19 IslesSay.blogspot.com

Can’t wait for them to get a shovel in the ground next June. GO ISLES!!!!

  20. 20 Miket

i am happy they are meeting. BUT let’s be honest. There are elections coming up and even though kate murray will probably be elected this puts her over the top.
She attends a meeting or two says the right things and then this issue gets put back on the shelf when she gets re-elected. Hope i am wrong.

  21. 21 Hockey Guy in Canada

Wouldn’t you assume that Wang “dreamed big” knowing he would probably be asked to scale things down somewhat? Maybe he can live with losing a few items as negotiations proceed. Rechler would know how you play that game.

  22. 22 NYI FAN

‘Keep your friends close, & your enemies closer.’ -KM?

  23. 23 bonzo

Like in the Don’s funeral scene, the question is: who asked for the meeting? Then, then you have your traitor…

  24. 24 John G.

Hey Dominik, I believe you have my stapler………..

  25. 25 IslesPassion21

I am a little concerned about Murray’s propensity to talk a big game without any action to back it up…

CB, we need to keep a watchful eye on both Suozzi and Murray especially because Murray has done this before..

Murray has verbally endorsed big projects before but once she was reelected, the projects she proclaimed good, she never got done, you don’t hear her talk about these projects again…It is her fault and I am a bit worried that many of the fans here are drinking the Kool Aid too quickly…I believe by just taking her words as gospel we might be doing a disservice to the LHP by fluffing it up too much…

We must not drink the Kool Aid, Murray cant be trusted and we cant let her off the hook…

Isn’t it odd how she went from saying she wont meet with developers due to conflict of interest to meeting with them 2-3 times in a week???Its just more inconsistency from the ToH supervisor, she cant be trusted…

We need to be diligent…These positive articles are great for moral but lets be honest here, “WE CANT TRUST THE WORDS coming out of either SUOZZI’S or MURRAY”S mouths”…

I hope you wont delete this message, its only honest…

  26. 26 NYI FAN

All KM did was to say she would start to attend meetings with the LH boys, don’t get too excited, this does not mean an approval on the project; this gets her past the elections when she can ok or reject the project in its’ current form.

  27. 27 Pnut

@25 good point IP21 the pressure! she is not to be trusted until she is gone or their is a shovel in the ground

@7 what did the readers of this blog do or did islandermania do to help the LH project along?? I really want to know if you read this
The only ones that have done anything are nick classic and bd galoff and CB so far

  28. 28 art

I think its obvious that all the pols are looking at future elections in both partys including appointments to higher office, judicial appointments, the primaries, on the local, state, and federal venues and don’t want to look like the bad guy that lost LI’s only pro team. Yes the project will most likely get scaled back but thats ok. I also believe that our governor who is in big trouble is in a no lose situation in backing the LH. I’m a cynic and thats why I’m encouraged that this deal will be done!

  29. 29 Numbers65

Let’s just get the Lighthouse done! BUT don’t forget to draft 91! I’m with 10 on the reinvent thing. With JT and the good young talent, with Doug Weight, and Streit, and yes we will attract those who want to be part of something special. Chicago, Caps, Pens, Jackets. Next Isles!
It sure would be a big boost if we can get the continuation in the growth and developement of DP!
