GOVERNOR HOSTS WANG FOR LIGHTHOUSE CHAT
Suozzi, Murray, developers to meet Friday at 11 am

Islanders Point Blank on Twitter
Charles Wang met with David Patterson at the Governor’s office in Manhattan for an hour this afternoon. A source told Point Blank that the New York State Governor was well-versed on the Lighthouse Project, is intrigued by its potential to add thousands of jobs and may eventually get involved in negotiations if needed.
(It’s worth noting that, although the Lighthouse Project may not work outside of Nassau County, Brooklyn, Queens and Suffolk are also located in the State of New York).
Tom Suozzi, Kate Murray, Wang and Scott Rechler will meet at 11:00 am on Friday to discuss Lighthouse Project “process.” The advisory released today by Suozzi’s office begins, “After months of delays, County Executive Suozzi brokered a meeting with…”
I’m not saying Suozzi did not indeed broker the meeting, but why be such an obvious politician and take credit and cite “months of delays”? Why potentially tick off Kate Murray and her people when everyone claims to be “moving forward, not looking back.” (I’m not, but they all agreed to on Tuesday).
Suozzi has been County Executive since 2001 and has been talking about the HUB since day one. Wang bought the Islanders in 2000 and first presented Lighthouse Project plans in 2003. The proposal was brought before the highly influential Long Island Planning Council on…Tuesday. After everything that has happened, leaders want to take bows just for getting Suozzi, Murray, Wang and Rechler in the same room to talk process?
C’mon. Prove to your residents and Islanders fans the nonsense is over. Prove Tuesday’s Kumbaya at the LIPC wasn’t just because there were reporters, cameras and concerned citizens around.
Get out of your silos. Work together. Get something done.

I always thought getting Gov. Patterson would be a great idea. He’s a Long Island guy, so to have his approval would be huge for us.
-
If there is any substance to this being a political tug-of-war then getting Patterson involved could be a huge mistake. Just my two cents.

“C’mon. Prove to your residents and Islanders fans the nonsense is over. Prove Tuesday’s Kumbaya at the LIPC wasn’t just because there were reporters, cameras and concerned citizens around.”
Amen to that CB

I’ll say this, it is starting to sound like things are looking up.
The Islanders now have the Governor on board with Murray now engaged in the meetings.
On Top of that the Islanders have the 1st pick and with the help of the good lord the Isles will Pick Tavares and that dream of a Cup in a new building is now in site. LET”S GO ISLANDERS ! ! -
Why don’t we try and get Obama involved…then we will see some progress:) It sounds promising though. I am quite sick of the political BS. This is one of those “reach across the aisle” moments right? Or I should say: REACH ACROSS THE ISLE!
-
First i was upset about hearing the wang interview today was canceled, but it’s clear now why!! I’m not upset anymore.
-
Let the games begin! And if there is actual progress made with the LH…let the lawsuits begin! That should keep things tied up for a few years.
-
please get the project approved! we love our islanders and want them to remain here!
-
This can only be looked at as another positive step. Like the song goes on the Christmas special, “Put one foot in front of the other and soon you’ll be walking ‘cross the floor”…yada yada yada. There IS life and reason for optimism in Islander Country!
Hopefully we’ve hit rock bottom already and now things will truly get better, and the sky’s the limit if we get John Tavares, a healthy DiPietro, and approval of the Lighthouse. -
I can see suozzi saying something stupid and pissing off the TOH contingent, he was actually trying to take a dig at Mondello and ofcourse Murray. Can’t we just get along>>>>
-
Paterson apparently ended the discussion by encouraging Wang to blockade Hempstead Turnpike on game days in order to keep traffic to a minimum and most importantly, keep out anyone from
NEW JERSEYYYYYY
(sorry had to do it)
-
its about time some elected officials outside of long island in NY State government got involved! good news.
-
“Get out of your silos. Work together. Get something done.”
…couldn’t have said it better, CB!
I do have renewed faith on the Lighthouse deal now, if for no other reason than it seems like the media is getting more involved. Which leads to the Governor getting involved. Which scares the TOH folks. Heh heh.
-
maybe, just MAYBE, this will get it done………i hope
-
Patterson raises taxes and cuts social programs while F’ing with Medicaid. He best support the damn LH project to make up for it. Does he support the Willets Point project? NYI should be in Queens.
-
If the governor of NY state has to get involved to get this project going then we might have a shot after all everybody. I mean for a guy who is almost blind can see all the positives the lighthouse project can do not just for nassau county but for all of long island then I don’t know who else you need to convince (aside from TOH and the douchebags of garden city).
-
If nothing comes out of this meeting, Wang should just move on to plan B. Maybe he can become the King of Queens if all else fails.
-
Patterson is a Hofstra grad so it can’t be too hard to convince him how much this would help his alma mater located right across the parking lot.
-
And in a Newsday article reporting on yesterdays meeting Kate Murray is quoted as saying she will ask Wang for permission to submit the Lighthouse environmental report to state agencies for their review. It looks like maybe things are staring to move.
-
Funny once the press is involved, and the fact that the lighthouse might be a major issue in November Elections, My how Murray is changing her tune hopefully she keeps the meeting and moves foreward, Long Island needs this as much as the Islanders.
-
I find it most interesting that anyone can take Suozzi’s comments about Kate Murray as digs and say can’t we all get along, when for months here all people could do was call her a cow, a sow, incompetent, etc, etc.
Now everyone’s talking, the process is going forward and everyone seems to be civil. Let’s keep letting everyone know how important this is, but let’s try and keep the negativity out.
That said, I’m still supporting Kristin McElroy as the next TOH Supervisor.
-
LOL(!), great idea Anthony C (#17) – they should use him in a commercial, saying “Even a blind person can see the positive things this complex could do for all of Long Island”.
Well, something like that. Does he have a good sense of humor? (I’m not from NY)If Murray can get behind this she stands to gain so much, careerwise (IMO). Especially now that Suozzi’s starting to run his mouth a bit. I really hope it works out. Holding my breath….
