PUCK DADDY NYI DRAFT ROUNDTABLE: Point Blank, Greg Logan, B.D. Gallof, Tom Liodice, Dominick
You can tell I must be burned out. I gave really short answers. Logie talks up Duchene and the “most complete” and “team-oriented” player stuff some more. Uh-oh. Thanks for the opportunity, Sean P. Daddy.

If the Isles select Duchene #1 overall, I’m never reading Newsday again.
-
jt or bust!!!
-
you have 1 hour to recharge that battery cb, i’ll be listening, so good luck on xm
-
cb my only quesation is how can you up Tavares to 80% after what those people at the Islanders said about not hitching your wagon to tavares. I love that you have it at 80 but waht made you put it so high
-
jethro 99 why would you not read newsday again, newsday would have gotten it right
-
Oh and CB, dont knock yourself on your answers, they were fine. Seriously it must be tough to think of anything you havent already said about this topic.
Come on, Friday… get here already.
-
Great read, I personally think it’s going to be Tavares.

DRAFT TAVARES!!! JOHN TAVARES!!!
DRAFT TAVARES!!! JOHN TAVARES!!!

i finally figured out that we are going to draft john tavares for sure. i urge everyone to go the the tsn website and check out little video with craig button they have posted. in that video, button predicts isles will take hedman BUT he says in order for big mouth brian burke to move up, he needs to know what the islanders and subsequently what the following teams need to do…he mentions that burke got the sedin twins becuase he knew who the other teams were going to draft that year….so the isles hold the key to this draft for everyone….if snow tells us who he will pick, then we will also know subsequently who tampa, colorodo, atl, la, phoenix will pick…this way burke could play out possible scenarios in order to grab tavares, brayden schenn or jared cowan….by snow keeping his mouth shut, he has forced brian burke into a corner so he cant pull the moves he pulled in the past to draft pronger or the sedin twins…burke should have shut his trap regarding his love for tavares and brayden schenn..tavares is ours, snow will laugh his butt off when he sees burke is unable to make his move….the mystery is solved my friends….snow has tavares all the way, he just doesnt ant to say it
-
is friday ever gonna come…..do us proud garth hope it’s JT
-
Nothing and I mean nothing can convince me that Duchene should be picked # 1 over Tavares.
This all had better be one massive big smoke screen by Garth and crew.
Tavares is the pick and had better be the pick.
-
Blow hard Burke going off in Toronto Star again about making a move for Tavares.
-
Logan is the only thing that scares me about tavares but at the end of the day i still think snow will take tavares and we can practice our fire garth chants instead of OUR TAVARES chants if he doesnt
-
tavares or kansas city.
-
Islanders1984 @ #6: out of sheer spite and anger that Logan was correct I would never read Newsday again. In my eyes his face would be the face of my crushed dreams (as far as the Isles go).
-
Hey CB..if the islanders draft anyone other than John Tavares, the first round of drinks at RC Dugans is on me ha
-
I think Logan is being used to wag the dog here. I jsut can’t beleive the Islanders would build things up so much only to incite a riot at the draft party.
-
I don’t want the “complete” player, we need an exciting game breaker.
Tavares or they can move for all I care.
-
#13, good pickup – I just read that and yeah, he is still paying lip service to those who think he has a shot. I guess he does – BUT – isles99 makes an excellent point. By Snow keeping quiet, he prevents other teams from planning a move – in this case Burke. I think it’s a plausible scenario, but I am cautiously optimistic Tavares will be the choice.
-
It’s a little after 4am here in Bali, Indonesia and instead of resting up for another day on the beach…I can’t sleep because for some reason I’ve been cursed for life to love the Islanders. Even after literally dancing in my living room when we won the draft lottery, I have to suffer the anxiety of Snow screwing this up. Garth, congrats on the MBA…but you’re no genius and, while Jankowski seems like a hard worker with a decent track record so far…he’s not smarter than every hockey man in the business. Garth, don’t be a schmuck: DRAFT TAVARES.
-
isles99 (10), I love that theory. Even if it’s not true, I’m going to savor it.
On that note, if Snow really wanted to misdirect or fool Burke, one of his best public ways would be to get the club’s lone beatwriter declaring that he thinks they’re taking Duchene.
The afterword to this draft should be great fun, assuming we all survive the danger to our cardiac health.
-
nice job on xm cb…. but you werent fibbing were you? you totally sounded burned out, lol, i had to jack the vol up for your parts and down for the announcers
-
tick, tick, tick. is it FRiday yet?
-
Good job as always on XM CB, I enjoyed listening.
-
What do the Islanders gain by waiting until Friday at 7:15 to announce the selection of Hedman or Duchene? The only conceivable answer is a possible trade down, but Garth has repeatedly said he isn’t likely to trade the pick.
Isles99 (#10) definitely has a plausible theory. It’s well known that Garth was irked by Burke’s comments about trading up for Tavares. The waiting game does not prevent Burke from making moves for other players, but it certainly makes his life more difficult. Maybe this is Garth’s way of having fun with the media, building the excitement for draft day, and sticking it to Burke. We can pick Tavares, and then Burke will be clamoring to put together a quick deal to nab one of Hedman/Duchene/Schenn. With all of his public posturing, Burke could wind up looking like the biggest loser in all of this, and I’m certain Garth would be happy with that.
-
If Matt Duchene is so awesome why isn’t Brian Burke trying to trade for HIM?
Would that not be easier, since he’s not projected to be picked immediately by the first intelligent human being given the opportunity to select him?
-
Another thought re: Duchene… He & Tavares share an agent, an agent that has a good working relationship w/ Garth & the Isles. Maybe Snow & co. agreed to pump Duchene’s stock a bit through some misdirection. I’m sure this also wouldn’t hurt as far as relations w JT’s camp go, so far as getting him into an Islanders uniform relatively hassle-free…
Bottom line: No way NYI pass on JT
-
how much xannax should one take to sleep from now till friday lol jk. This could be a bad week or a great week let it be friday
-
Question: why the sudden flurry of interest in Duchene that has made this a three-player contest? Perhaps even a two-player contest, because Hedman’s buzz has declined somewhat?
(Yes, I know Duchene’s name has been floated here for months, but did you really think when it appeared that he was the #1 guy? Remember, that was before the Isles locked up the first round draft choice).
I ask because it seems to me that Duchene’s coming on has been accompanied by reports of various conversations between various reporters (Greg Logan, CB) and team sources, and, in different ways, it’s as if team sources seem to be pushing this in a certain direction … or is that misdirection?
We’ll see on Friday.
-
whoever we end up taking, welcome that person with open arms. people were pretty angry when they took josh bailey and people warmed up to him. it will be the same case with this player.
matt duchene, if you are the pick, welcome.
-
Seems to me both Chris’s and Logan’s Islander sources are telling them the exact same thing. Logan is choosing to believe it, Chris isn’t.
-
Gotta disagree w/ Matt (#31). If Duchene is the pick, I won’t be welcoming him w/ open arms, b/c I’ll be D-O-N-E w/ this team. And I’ve been a fan since I was ’93 when I was but a wee little tot.
-
After reading the Top 3 run down on the Isles site, I would just DIE if Tavares isn’t the choice…His numbers are astronomical…Duchenes a great PROSPECT but JT is so far, above, and beyond when it comes to accomplishments, stats…
I’m so stressed ahout this and Im a 35 year old man…Whats wrong with me??? Never mind I know the answer, “Im cursed, I’m an Isles fan”…
Garth break the Milbury curse!!!!!
-
It would be nice to hear the opinions of our own scouts regarding these players…
-
I think the strongerst arguement anyone can make for drafting JT #1 overall is the most obvious one …. ANY TEAM would be much improved with John Tavares … John Tavares has put up big numbers for FOUR years in the OHL, even when he was 15 against 18,19 and 20 year olds.
Pat Kane described how JT caught him from behind and stripped him of the puck when Pat was 2 years older than JT … that is Pat Kane for God’s sake … I don’t want to hear any more over analytical BS about John’s lack of speed or defenisve skills… maybe he’s slower than the average superstar … but thinks 10x faster.
-
20,057 tickets given away. not to see hedman drafted. not to see duchene drafted. to see tavares drafted.
-
I think Tavares is completely overrated. When everyone thinks of a hockey player you just think of a goal scorer. But the islanders need more than that. They need players that can play defense, sets plays up and score goals. Thats how you win championships. look at Kovalchuk with Atlanta he scores but the team goes no where. I say Matt Duchene is the right pick for the islanders
-
Matt on 31, I strongly recommend you go to the Isles site and read about the 3 and tell me who should be the pick…I am tired of being laughed at by the rangers fans and the hockey world in general…If Garth doesn’t take JT with the first overall pick it would be unforgivable…
Its like passing on a possible Gretzky to an extent…he is on a different level…He hasd surpassed his records in the OHL and has been the “undisputed” top prospect for years now…
Again, depriving the Islander fans of John Tavares would be unforgivable…
-
Hey CB … Greg “P-Daddy” never gave any answers to his own questions that he asked of you guys …. did he give any indication of whether or not he agreed with you guys on a certain question?
-
if this teams future was safe and secure on long island and there was a more solid foundation of “high end” prospects outside of okposo already in place than yes i could live with duchene but thats not the reality now. in order to keep your fanbase, draw crowds, sell merchandise, and keep this team here its tavares or bust!!! anything else would be pure franchise suicide

Sports Ilustrated mock draft.1. New York Islanders: John Tavares, C, London (OHL)
Mystery, my butt. Garth Snow can play it as cute as he wants, but this is the name he’ll call Friday night. Scouts have been on top of Tavares for so long that they’ve spent the last two seasons picking his game apart and he’s still the Best Player Available. Does he have flaws? Sure. His skating won’t make anyone forget Yvon Cournoyer, and his play away from the puck is a work in progress. But his OHL-record goal totals (72 in 2006-07, 215 for his career) prove he knows where to go in the offensive zone and what to do with the puck once he gets it, and that makes him too valuable to pass up. The Isles have given away more than 17,000 tickets for their draft party. No need for those attending to bring torches and pitchforks. The fans will get the man they want.
-
i was just on the nyi website and saw the profiling of the top 3 in the draft. oddly they put duchene’s profile first, tavares last. they also have some quotes saying he(md) is the best all-round player. isles still playin head games or just coincidence??
-
Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.
-
I vomit a little bit in my mouth every time someone mentions that Tavares will give you goals but Duchene will give you the Cup. Last time I checked, JT did pretty good in the OHL playoffs not to mention he helped carry, yes ‘carry’, the Canadians on their way to a gold medal. Anyway, no single player gets you the Cup so enough of that comparison. It is a joke.
-
Hate (or love) to say it, but it’s possible we all might hear the following on Fri pm: “Championship teams are built on defense, from the goalie out – and so with the first pick of the 2009 draft, the New York Islanders choose Victor Hedman of Modo, Sweden.” Hate it cuz I’d like to see Taveras here; love it because I believe Snow would be right. Cup = Defense/Goaltending. Sheesh – we need all 3 (TavHeduch)!
-
The rest of the NHL will be laughing at the Isles again if they do not draft JT. Are there any islands in Kansas City?

nice work CB i enjoyed it and pray ovcourse tavares is the pick or i cry myself to sleep and punch my hand through a wall (:
TAVARES OR BUST
