TAVARES AGENT CLARIFIES “EXPLORING” REMARK
Deal “won’t take long,” says Pat Brisson

by admin on July 8th, 2009 at 4:14 pm

4:10 pm - Just spoke on the phone with Pat Brisson, who knew I was tracking him down to explain his comment to Logie that there were things he wanted to “explore” in finalizing an Entry Level contract for John Tavares. Pat wanted to make clear there was no story here, nothing to be alarmed by.

“Nah, the only thing we have to explore is when we actually want to get the contract done,” said Brisson, who arrived in Uniondale too late for the press conference but will have dinner with Tavares tonight before leaving New York.

“Once we start, the deal won’t take long. I’ve been the agent on four out of the last five of these (Brisson is also the agent for former first overall picks Patrick Kane, Erik Johnson and Sidney Crosby). The CBA doesn’t really give you any room to do much else. It will get done. It’s just a matter of when.”

Comments.

    CB

Didn’t think this was a big deal…it seems he really wants to play for the Islanders…I just wish they would sign some NHL caliber players to play with him. I hope garth knows it’s ok to start winning some hockey games….

  3. avatar Netminder39 says:

I wonder how much in bonuses he’ll be offered, since bonuses count against the cap.

  4. avatar PSV says:

Netminder39, Stamkos got 875k salary/2.850k bonus, so it’ll be slightly more or the same.

  5. avatar islesfan999 says:

He will be offered the max they can give him

  6. avatar Bryan says:

It should be done already. Give him everything to the max and call it a day.

  7. avatar RAmen says:

    exhale.

  8. avatar The PolishPrince says:

Whew. One less worry in Islander country. Now on to worrying about JT getting hurt since we have no beef in the lineup…

  9. avatar beatlebailey says:

that’s a relief..the only major concern left is the Nate Thompson arbitration!!

  10. avatar Jimmy Mac says:

    It’s a standard contract… it’s a non issue.

Did you think he was getting 10 million a year…lol.

  11. avatar Greg says:

My swampy crack just dried up. SIGN HIM UP!

  12. avatar G. HOWITT says:

If anything this guy deserves a nice long term contract$$$$$ this guy is a ROCK star. Marketing etc….

  13. avatar Numbers65 Isle in Ohio says:

Another big sigh of relief in Isle country, only recently eclipsed by the sign of relief when Garth announced JT was an Islander.

  14. avatar Tavares #1 says:

Thanks Botta, you are the man!

  15. avatar Adam M says:

I don’t know why this was such a cause for concern. I’m sure he’ll get the max rookie contract plus a boatload of incentive money.

Some of ye olde Isles fans need to stop walking on egg shells with every little thing.

  16. avatar Netminder39 says:

    PSV

Thanks, that was the answer I was looking for. I thought it would be close to Stamkos.

  17. avatar Wizard of Isles says:

I still don’t understand Brisson’s comments. Why would you not get it done ASAP?

  18. avatar Chris TMC says:

He represents a number of players, between that and Garth having organizational obligations maybe they just havent scheduled it yet.

For perspective: Stamkos was signed at the very end of July last year, and they announced they were taking him the seond they won the draft lottery.

The young man said all the right things. But most of our fans have been unified on one subject- Help in size and experience to go with our youth, lack of size and experience. Our rebuilding started acouple of seasons ago and Snow/Wang were willing to spend and take roster space for some proven players. What has changed that stops them from making those moves that fans and Hockey pros are urging! The answer can only be either they feel previous ufa signings were all mistakes or it is simply the decision not to spend money. In either case today’s euphoria may be soon replaced by a young team that is pushed around by much better teams regularly leading to many loses, slow development of the team, empty seats, and the loss of the team on the Island. I think I speak for the majority of fans when I beg management to pick up some help- its not too late.

  20. avatar Isle74 says:

Wizard, maybe he has other big time clients or deals in the works. This deal is cast in stone. Neither side has much of a choice. There is no real rush from the Islanders side. I would agree with you that if I was his agent, I would want a deal done before he hits the ice, even for prospect camp.

  21. avatar Isle74 says:

art and others are hitting the nail on the head. We are not asking for Hossa etc. Just a legit enforcer and few bangers with some average skill. This wasting roster spot business from the Isles is an insult to the fans. Lets go Charles, we can be a few million over the cap.

  22. avatar Brooks Simpson says:

    Much ado about nothing.

Can we all come in off the ledge now?
